Fuck Adam Silvera, honestly. His books make me so sad but they’re so fucking addictive.
Why did Mateo have to leave their safe little island?
😭😭😭
And, no, this isn’t my first time reading TBDATE

so basiclly why shud a person read TBDATE Sequel
- it talks about the prequel and the fcking failure of the death cast-
-so its not necessary someone would die
-plus only one person is going to get the death cast call also it is going to be the first death cast call ever made by death cast
-in 2011 a law was passed in US regarding same sex marriage but the story line talks about the desires of 2 boys in 2010
OK NOW LETS HAVE THE PREMIUM HINT
-Rufus and Mateo both are in the story line :)) tho not as the protagonist duo
-okkkk wtf its kinda a spoiler someone is going to get shot at Time Square without getting any call

I finished reading They Both Die at the End last night at like 3am and I’ve just now finished processing and wow… this book genuinely made me question everything about my life.. made me remember my mortality but also made me appreciate how far I’ve gotten in my life. It made me regret some choices but rejoice about others. When the topic of death runs so deeply in the story you can’t help but wonder about every aspect of living you’ve done and the experiences waiting for you to live through.
(Slight spoilers ahead)
I’m so so saddened by the ending because the ending stays true to the title, but at the same time I’m so happy the whole story of Mateo and Rufus wasn’t cheapened by a nonrealistic plot twist that would keep them alive and together.. their love alone was worth a lifetime. And they did deserve to live. There’s no doubt about that.
I would also like to say that I would absolutely hate living in a world with Death-Cast. I don’t think I’d wanna know when I’m going to die. But maybe it would be nice to be able to say a proper goodbye to everyone in my life.
AND OMG the way that every character and their stories were woven together and affected each other was absolutely amazing to me.
I really liked that the first line from each pov was about whether or not the character was going to die. It felt like an insight to how it would be like to live in this reality.
The only part about the book I had a problem with was the fact that a lot of the deaths described in the book could be directly correlated back to the phone call. For example, Rufus and his family. If they hadn’t gotten that call would his sister still suggest they go on that trip?? Or would all three of his family members die in a different manner all in the same day?? Like what were the odds of them all dying the same day before the call? Do the calls increase somebody’s chance of dying or does it just change how they die? It’s kind of unclear and it made it a little hard for me to be immersed in the story completely.

In case anyone was wondering. Listening to The Night We Met by Lord Huron as you’re reading the apartment scene (before the stove) in TBDATE will make you sob uncontrollably

4/5 stars
I'll probably edit this review later on when I have better processed what I just read.
Summary In this world, you get a call to inform you that you're going to die 24 hours before it happens. You don't know how it'll happen. In this case, both Mateo and Rufus received this call on the same day. Both can't say goodbye to their loved ones. Mateo can't because his father is in a coma. Rufus, on the other hand, made a mistake that made his friends unavailable to him. They meet through an app meant for these types of situations called "Last Friends." From there, they go on to befriend and help each other out.
Review One of my favorite things about this book was how their friendship developed. Neither decided to mope or just lay down because of the call they received. From there, we see them progress through multiple situations and grow from them.
Mateo was one of my favorite characters in this book. This was mainly because I could relate to him even more than I did to the other characters. Throughout the book, Mateo deals with his father being in a coma and his problems caused by his social anxiety. We see him overthink a lot in the beginning. We see this slowly progress into him learning how to cope with all his anxiety. I really liked how this was dealt with. I have seen other books completely cure characters of anxiety, so this was a nice change. His death definitely affected me the most. He didn't deserve to die the way he did.
Rufus was a more complex character, and it took me more time to understand him and/or relate to him. Rufus is one of the more reckless characters in the book. If we look more into his actions, we will see how this affects him throughout the book.
The side characters were also part of what made this book so enjoyable. From being a fully developed character to bringing in their own perspective, it allows us to further understand how everything is connected. Even in the case of Peck, we can understand the motives behind his actions.
They Both Die at the End is a book worth reading. Although I was a bit iffy on whether or not it was worth reading, I'm glad I did. The book is more dialogue-based, but it still manages to create well-developed characters. The different perspectives definitely made this book better in terms of getting to know the side characters. The connection between everyone was also well done. This did make me more emotional than I expected. If you want an emotional read, this is a book you should read.
