For those post... 2010? The Nanny fans who want more fic and haven't discovered this one yet (or those older fans who thought this site was lost), let me introduce you to the Real Unofficial Nanny Home Page (RUNHP). Not online anymore, but well archived on the Internet Archive.

It was my home away from home for much of my teen years. It had screen caps when only a few people had capture cards. It shared interviews, appearances and titbits before we knew how to find them (especially us non-US folks). And it had fanfic. So much fanfic. I have personally archived about 800 stories from there.

Barb was the webmistress of the site, and especially in the beginning, you had to submit your story and she might not publish it. Also, most stories were written during the shows run, which means that most of it is Fran/Max. There is some Niles/CC, and I don't think there are any other pairings (except maybe TN Character/OC). Also, most of it is rated G or T, later stuff might be rated M/E.

Some authors made it over to FF.net (I don't think I know of any besides me who made it to AO3, if there are I would love to know) and republished stories there. But a lot are just on that site. Also, we did a virtual seventh which was quite fun.

Recommended authors: Christine Davis (F/M & N/CC), IvanaBGood (N/CC and the one who opened my eyes to that pairing), and SMB (F/M). If you want angsty teenager-written fic (some self-insert even) written by me, look for Sara (the one with the most fics).

Anyway, if you are craving more fics, if you want to see what people thought while the show was still on the air (and we didn't know even if Fran and Max would get together, let alone Niles and CC), have fun!

NB: There are later snapshots but at some point the encoding got messed up, and there are no newer (or not many at least) fics in later archiving.

The Nanny

The relationship between Maxwell Sheffield and Fran Fine is so intricate and honestly a major mess.

This is not a deep analysis. I just think it's hilarious how Fran and Maxwell do this slow burn for over 4-5 seasons (they get together in season 5), but seemingly lose the passion. I understand why people think stretching out the will they wont they plot line is key-- as it's super easy to keep passion, but I don't think the passion left because Maxwell and Fran got together. I think it failed a bit because the writers didn't really care to continue to develop this relationship between the characters after they got together. I see this happen a lot in slow burn movies and tv shows. The characters and their relationship is not the problem. It's the writers giving up the chase because the characters are now together. Just like a real life marriage, WORK must be put in or the relationship will fail.

Writers give up, instead of focusing on creating a new and unique dynamic. Fran and Maxwell had such an interesting dynamic after the "I love you" fiasco. That need to rebuild trust could've been stretched and further developed when they got together, but that plotline got dropped (/resolved wayyy to quickly).

When they do get together, instead of looking into how to portray this new relationship dynamic-- the development, trust, and new routine-- it's almost as if Maxwell and Fran were instantly made for each other instead of focusing on Maxwell and Fran learning to properly love each other (because of course they were sexually attracted to each other). Maxwell calling Fran, darling all the time instead of still calling her Fran is honestly a disaster.

Fran and Max's relationship was really one of the best slow burns of the 90s. But the trash that was their official relationship was not because they got together, but rather that the writers stopped working on developing their relationship. But I don't even blame the writers, because it wouldn't be the first writers room to turn a good slow burn to a trash insta love plot (insta love itself is not trash, but in these cases THEY ARE).
