okay hi just came across your go2 post cause i was looking for a more critical opinion on the season and it was hard to find...so thank you so much!! i thought it was just.. meh. i expected so much more.. the last episode got pretty engaging, but the whole season i was thinking that the plot was super disjointed, the writing could've been way funnier, and the new characters really were flat 😬 didn't get the maggie & nina stuff, they had no chemistry to me.. idk. so weird. so it felt great to read your little take on it. hope you're having a lovely day 🥰

hey anon! i pretty much agree with everything you’ve said here. we spent so much time farting around in flashbacks (trying to recapture the magic of the s1e3 cold open) that everything happening in the present day just seemed not to matter, or had absolutely no time to matter. all the new characters felt like they were introduced to do one specific thing and they weren’t characters outside of a particular function so had no depth or exploration. the ‘plot’ was a mess and i’ve seen people saying that this season was just a bridge to get from season one to season three, and season three is where the real ‘meat’ will be and i’m just like [regina george dot meme] so you agree? this season had no meat?

neither crowley or aziraphale grew at all this season, which whatever okay if this is the second part in a three parter that’s… sure, but it’s not even just that they didn’t grow. it’s that, despite the ending of S1 being both of them being like ‘oh we were wrong and being here and saving earth and being together is what’s important’ they still both made the exact same choices they made in S1 before they’d learned that lesson!

i had some fun, some bits were brilliant, but most of it was decidedly not. in my opinion. you’re not alone, anon, and it’s fine that you didn’t love it. it’s frustrating when you wanna be genuinely interrogating what was actually presented but are worried about coming off as a WAAH WAAH THE THING I WANTED DIDN’T HAPPEN GOOD type. i hope you’ve got some good pals who you can chat critically about it with! a balm for the soul. and that you get to read some good fix-it fic, or write some if that’s your jam. that’s what i’m doing. fixing literally the entire thing for fun and because spite is a motivator i can work with xxx

Oops my hand slipped.

This is hot off the keyboard. No beta - we die like gnomes. Just felt like getting this out. As much as Astarion needs a hug and cuddles I imagine getting him to understand or accept the concept would be hard. Which is how we ended up here. Halla is my current PC - she's an actual DnD tabletop character of mine I dumped into the game. She's a lot better with words when she's doing her usual conniving shit. In this case - she's trying to be genuine. Which is new for everyone. They are both bad at this which is why I feel they work. Halla is a half elf bard - whose very meh with elven shit. And this takes place in the front half of Act 2. No spoilers in it just set dressing.

Astarion wasn’t sure why he’d assumed the nightmares wouldn’t reach him Here. Out in the middle of this godsdamned land covered in shadows. The land was brutal enough he’d thought he would be too tired for Cazador -even a memory of him -to reach. The worm was clearly eating the intelligent part of his brain.

As his mind cleared he found himself sitting up clutching his knees. His racing thoughts started dying down as he made his eyes focus on the campfire in front of him. The glow warding off the darkness of the curse and now his own dreams. A delicate cough attracted his attention from the fire. He found himself meeting a familiar pair of gold eyes. “Darling,” he said quietly with a forced smile. The woman wordlessly sat next to him. Close enough for him to feel her warmth but not touching him. Ever since their talk about their, whatever they were doing, she seemed more careful to not touch him. An odd amount of care that gnawed on him, being treated so delicately. Like he was made of glass. Him. It’d be funny if it wasn’t a relief. “Dreams again.” It was a question that wasn’t. She gave him a look he was unable to read. Concern? Exasperation? Exhaustion? It was late, and the days had not been kind to anyone. “It was noth-” he tried to shrug it off with a laugh. A lie. But the bard’s face changed to a more readable expression. Skepticism. He trailed off awkwardly. They had talked about being more…upfront. “It was Him.” he finally spat out. “Cazador.” The name hung in the air - sullying the aura of the campfire. Halla held out her hand. After a moment of hesitation he accepted it and found himself clinging to it like it and soon her whole arm like it was a rock in a raging river. Leaning slightly he found her bony shoulder under his cheek. Pushing himself closer, the woman offered no resistance, just a small hum in response. He breathed the scent of her, warm skin, her blood, her sweat, leather oil and the pine rosin she was always using on her violin. “Sorry about the stink, I need to do the washing,” she sighed. “It’s been hard to get the laundry service out here. Turns out they all run the other way when they hear “shadow curse.” He smiled weakly. It was a poor stab at humor, but it was still funnier than his lingering dreams. He briefly wondered about telling her he didn’t mind. That the earthy smells were better than the stale old decay and rot of his nightmares. That probably was something best left to himself. “I hope I didn't wake you. Did I?" nightmares were embarrassing. Nightmares where you were so loud you woke others were mortifying.

“Nah” she shook her head, her brown hair glinting gold in the firelight. “It’s my turn to keep watch. I drew the short straw tonight.” she offered with a shrug. The short straw was usually the darkest/latest shift in the night watch rotation. But in this place, there was little difference from the brightest to the darkest parts. Or even a night or day. Exactly how long they had been here was hard to calculate. Days flew by without any indicators but new injuries and horrors. It reminded him of the days in Cazador’s kennels, hours and weeks swept by like a stranger with no notice or regard. That might have been what brought the nightmares plaguing him tonight. The monotonous misery.

“Do you mind giving me my arm back?” Halla’s voice cut into his thoughts. Oh. He was dragged back to the here and now, the campfire. Clinging to this woman like he was a child with a security blanket. Fool. He let go of her arm like it was burning. “Karlach’s shift’s coming up.” she said getting to her feet. Straightening up Astarion nodded and gestured for her to go on.

Standing up with a stretch he turned to walk into his tent. Try to salvage the night - get some rest before they marched back into the cursed dark and shadows. If the shadows would leave him alone. He was about to duck into his tent when he heard a familiar voice behind him. “Erm.” Turning over his shoulder was Halla. She was probably here to chide him for being scared of nightmares, tell him it was nothing to worry about. “You uh…” she faltered, “want to come to my tent?” So that’s what this was. He’d assumed she was too tired for this. Shadowlands were hardly known for their, erotic qualities. Maybe this was payment. Get a shoulder to cry on, give some pleasure. He’d wondered how much of his words she had heard, how much she had meant of him making his own choices. Or how little she cared for sex. He had hoped. But he was a fool. “If that’s what you want.” he said trying to hide his exhausted resignation. She bristled, “Not like that.” she replied. “I meant.” her hands wringing, “I mean. Not for that.” She was usually so good at words it would have been amusing to watch her flounder if it weren’t his nerves she was playing like a bow string. “Want to sl-” she stopped gnawing on her lower lip before finally she spat out something that it took him a moment to realize was elven true tongue. The words for a night's rest and meditation. “Rest with me?” Her tone and language so formal and stiff it was impossible to sound lewd. “What?” he found himself staring at her in bewilderment. “If that was a proposition you have no right to critique mine.” The woman was of some elven blood so it wasn’t a surprise she knew the tongue. She had just never spoken it before. Her face was turning red, a performance he’d never seen her do before. “Do you want to rest with me?” she repeated again in Common her tone quiet. “Just rest. Just sleep. Nothing else. You don’t have to, you can say no if you want to. I just thought you could use the company.” Being alone he was used to. Even in a crowded room, or stacked like kindling with his “siblings” in their bunks. But did he want to be? Now? In this endless night and shadow. “I think” he swallowed. “I think I would like that.” He let her take him by the hand, as she led him to her tent. Karlach settling down by the fire, sharpening her axe, glanced up and smiled like she was going to say something but was silenced with a glare from Halla. The tiefling made a gesture like she was locking her mouth and went back to her business. He ducked to get through the door of the bard’s tent. She drew the drape over the entrance as they came in. They’d made love under the stars, fucked in his bedroll, but he had never gone into her tent. It had felt wrong to do that while he was toying with her, using her. Even with the new found freedom of the parasite it felt wrong to cross the threshold. Violate what odd trust she had given to him. But now he was being led in. It felt strange to be invited so warmly. Reminded him of all the other times he’d been trusted and shouldn’t have been. This was going to end badly. “One moment.” she said and tapped a lantern. The gray darkness of the tent was illuminated into a warm glow. The floor was a beaten battered carpet stolen in their wanderings. Its original design, now worn and faded, still provided some color and degree of separation from the dirt. A few books and scrolls were scattered about. Her boots and hat were carefully placed next to a stool where her armor rested. Ready at a moment's notice. Removing her sandals - the woman began arranging her bedroll and blankets. “You can make yourself comfortable.” Glancing around he tried to find a place to sit, but the only spare cushion that wasn’t part of her bedroll was providing a resting place for her violin. Touching that would be more of an invasion than entering her tent. Gesturing around the room he looked at her quizzically.

“Oh don’t be so dramatic. You can move that and sit there, if you prefer to meditate sitting up” she gestured at the musical instrument. “Or you can join me. If you like.” “I thought you said-” “I said sleep. And I mean sleep.” she said with more patience than he felt he deserved. Getting to her feet - she stooped, though less than he had to and gently placed her hands on his face. Lightly. Giving him space to move away if he wanted. He didn’t move from her touch. “We can share a bedroll, blanket, or pillows or whatever you like.” she said gently. She kneeled back down onto the bedroom and started to stretch out, pulling blankets over her. Leaving some for him, he noticed. A sweet gesture even if he didn’t need it. Carefully he laid down next to her, not touching her at all. When was the last time he’d shared a bed with someone? He wondered. Just for sleep. Not post cloitally. Surely he must have at some point when he was young. Alive. Those days were a blur to him. A blur of sunshine and comfort that swam away when he tried to focus on it. As Halla began to shift her pillow around he was pulled from his musings by a glint of metal. He reached under her pillow and his hand found a stiletto knife. “I never expected you to be the sort to use blades in the bedroom.” “That’s not for you.” she said rolling her eyes, taking the blade from him. “Old habit.” With that she tucked it back under her pillow. She wasn’t asking him if he cared or was concerned about it. He decided not to press her hospitality any further. An odd mix of naivete and steel. Sweet enough to invite a vampire to lay next to her but savvy enough to keep a knife close. He could respect that. “You can turn off the lamp if you want.” she murmured her voice half muffled by her pillow. She sounded like she was halfway off to dreaming. He hoped hers were more pleasant than his had been.

The light was better than shadows, real or imagined he decided. Leaving the lamp lit he closed his own eyes and tried to get himself to rest as well. At least for the moment he wasn't alone in the dark.

every name i’ve ever seen a fic give the nameless bard/venti’s friend

1: The Stanley Option: almost certainly not canon since venti is latin for wind spirit/the winds and the barbatos from the ars goetia is clearly a huge character inspiration, but i see where people get this one!

2: I’m Not Telling You: sure he has a name, but we’re going to conspicuously dance around it by calling him the boy/the bard/that dude with the braids when no-one else is referred to that way! the coward option for cowards.

3: Venti Forgor: would give him some interesting parallels with the traveler (see: the wings of descension), but is almost exclusively used for the most over-the-top of angsty hurt no comfort oneshots. meh.

4: Himmel: inspired by the holy lyre der himmel, this one is german for a clear blue sky. thematically appropriate, but also: ow!

5: Cecil: inspired by the cecilia flowers he wears and is connected to (saint cecilia is the patron saint of musicians, their in-game description calls them “...just as intangible as the true heart of an unbound soul”, they grow in harsh wind and don’t survive under gentler breezes). always neat to see whether a fic thinks he was named after the flowers, or the flowers were named after him. if i had to pick one of these as Most Likely To Be Canon, it would be this.

6: Amadeo/Amadeus: latin for ‘loves god’ or ‘loved by god’, depending on your translation. either way hurts my feelings :[

7: Carmen: inspired by venti’s constellation, carmen dei, this one’s latin for song/poem (and my personal favorite!). it becomes significantly funnier if you hc venti as his first name and not barbatos. ah yes, come meet our bard and his wind spirit, Song and The Wind,

second :sob: can you explain the doc and joe thing i'm so lost. my only knowledge of it is from a few posts/tweet screenshots. i immediately thought it was a bit, why do i keep seeing people taking it so seriously? or talking about people taking it seriously?

don't worry too much about 'people are taking it seriously' from what i understand that was comment sections and 'doc's twitter following takes things too seriously sometimes'. the chain of events goes like this (and is, you know what, very funny and the most joe of chains of events):

doc and xisuma go through the trouble of returning a shulker from the end to the overworld. on getting it home, they leave it in a glass box at spawn.

joe streams. he sees the shulker in the glass box at spawn. he asks if it belongs to anyone, but only cub and jevin are online, and cub, naturally, goes "nah you should absolutely take it", he's cub. he sees that the shulker isn't labeled and goes "well unlabeled mobs are free for the taking"

so he moves it into his haunted house. it is named mimic now. mimic is adorable. we will protect mimic. note that this went RIDICULOUSLY smoothly and that joe still, at this point, has no idea how hard it is to move shulkers normally.

joe leaves a note in a shulker box that's like "here's the coordinates of your guy, i rescued this poor abandoned shulker"

also i'd like to note he like, started the episode by saying he wanted to get a gift for xisuma, which makes stealing that shulker even funnier.

a day and a half passes. doc wakes up in a cold sweat at 4 am and realizes that he hadn't actually healed the shulker. (oh my god there are SO many ways that could have gone horribly wrong back at joe's by the way so this is very funny to me.) he logs on.

he sees that joe has stolen it.

he starts grandstanding on twitter, as doc is wont to do. (for the record this was still definitely a bit, if he were actually GENUINELY upset he would have said something privately.) joe responds with basically "well i'm playing pinball right now so".

fanbases, as fanbases tend to do, prepare. i fully admit i was hoping for a joe/doc confrontation because i personally think that would be extremely funny.

however, presumably behind the scenes, doc and/or xisuma explains to joe just how much of a pain in the ass shulkers are.

joe records another episode in record time where he goes "well, i made a mistake, i'm going to heal mimic and return mimic safely to the glass box". tone of the episode makes it clear that joe didn't know it was a big deal and that it kinda did need to get returned. hence some of the confusion i think.

this ALSO manages to go smoother than any shulker transfer i've seen in my life. joe how did you get so lucky with this.

box is returned. the greatest gift of all - and also literally the only thing doc has the capacity to destroy of joe's given that joe can lose everything and go "meh" and move on - is friendship.

cue adorable lesson.

the moral of this story is that mimic the shulker deserves the world i think, and also that a joe/doc prank war would be really funny but alas, was not to be this time.

...also that, while i'm preaching to the choir here, respective fanbases like, come on now, it was a bit.

oh yeah also that cub absolutely would start the trojan war for funsies because that was at least partially his fault,

i’m rly vibing w senor bighands design thus far………………i hope it looks good in action!!! the deathdrives’ designs have been pretty hit or miss for me tbh, like i rly love superbia and cupiridas but knuth/pessimism/vanitas are more meh…….like i generally enjoy the unique shapes in THEORY but i just feel like they also suffer a lot from being overdesigned the way a lot of modern 3d mecha are and it makes them kind of hard to parse out on screen which is :/ like so many of the shots are just so BUSY that it’s hard for me to get a handle on what is going on yknow? i can’t stop thinking abt what that shot of bravern saluting smith would look like if there were less details fjdbjfjdndbdn

if burn bravern + superbia gattai. that robot will literally be red + yellow + green + blue + purple. 🤨🏳️‍🌈⁉️

if on the off chance it turns out lulu IS biologically related to smith. i think it’ll make that one scene from ep3 where the hotel owner is like “🤨 she doesn’t LOOK like your sister” a fucking million times funnier LMFAO. also i am still suspicious of why her name is lulu if NOT being just the repeated first syllable of smith’s name like a noriko -> nono situation. this has fr been my tin foil hat theory since ep3 and i am not letting go until the end!!!!!! (although also side note that in general i am not EXPECTING any of this lmao. i honestly am mostly just finding such joy in the fact that this show is batshit insane enough that stuff like this is like. relatively plausible? at least to consider floating around? like it’s the same w the “lulu is biologically smith AND isami’s daughter cause isami’s blood dripped in bravern and her hair is blue and her eyes are red and she pilots the PURPLE deathdrive” thing - like the fact that i’m not immediately rolling my eyes at the idea tickles me greatly LMAO)

the way that the pieces for this episode have been positioned intrigues me to no end. like. it’s bravern + lulu + superbia(? i assume) Who Know and isami Who Doesn’t. and the side characters who ALSO don’t know are also not there (at least in the setup). although tbh i could see miyu having an inkling abt it or at the very least being super chill like she was in the Bad Future. like that rly opens the floor up from both a plot perspective (don’t have to worry about whatever power these new DDs have cause only the core cast will be affected) and from a character perspective (don’t have to cut to the faces of Literally anyone but isami going like 😲 once the truth is revealed. if isami doesn’t figure it out for himself first. or however that plays out) and its so smart on the whole and i’m genuinely so excited to watch it play out!!!!!! like even if miyu et al roll up in the last two minutes to help save the day with um. idk it’d have to be smth completely new i suppose cause they sure do have like one gun that is marginally effective against the DDs FNDJFJJDJS it pares things down for max efficiency which is really smart imo

japan and the US jointly developing a mech that reads your brainwaves is the most sus thing in the world LMAO like i could not sleep at night if that thing were real even moreso than the deathdrives themselves

i think there’s at least one more twist left. like ep9 was The Twist and then they pulled time travel AGAIN in ep10 which is genuinely WILD to me. so like. idk maybe ep11 is Old Man Isami coming back from ANOTHER future to sunbathe in the volcano FNNDNFN

i am also not counting out a g gundam style ending yet and Getting Smith Outta That Thing. obviously my own biases are very much at play here but like. if the moral of this show is that you gotta live no matter what you just HAVE to live and fuck time and space and convention because the people who love you will make sure you live. like. if any show is gonna have its cake and eat it too and keep both bravern AND smith around? i feel like this one could pull it off!!!! not placing bets ofc but like its possible yknow? but again that is also based on the assumption that the end point of the show is at all congruous with its current status quo, and something that my feeble human mind can even conceive of with the information that is given, so we shall see. LMAO. the idea that they’re all just gonna be fucking isekai’d into the florist AU that staff loves so much is ANOTHER idea that tickles me greatly for being something so in line with the insanity of this show that i cannot IMMEDIATELY rule it out even if i very much doubt that’s where we’re going LMFAO. bc smth like that sure would fucking vibe w the final battle taking place somewhere “unexpected” (again, if that’s true, idr if it was just a rumor or not) and also how uninterested the show has been w the state of the world at large barring a few scenes. HM.

anyways final predictions for this ep is that i will cry atleast once 👍

What did they do here exactly…? Crowley froze him somehow and made him suggestible? He can do that? And Azirphale your morally grey is showing again you told Crowley to do that

The only way they could’ve made me like Crowley more was by giving him a Scottish accent and they done exactly that. I need someone to make audio clips of all the amazingly accented words in this flash back.

This outfit was also FINE. Costume department really goes bonkers with Crowley and is like ‘meh give him a coat’ to Aziraphale

Stop. His moral panic when he finds out the jar is a tumour from a dead child.

Azirphale is so disturbed by these things which is so hard to watch. But he’s never really seen them, he doesn’t know they’re happening. Crowley is more lighthearted and able to stay upbeat because he’s been so deep in this shit for a long time he’s able to detach. But that just supports my theory that he’s been in the trenches doing ‘good’ things for a while now.

But that’s also why Crowley isn’t harsh to Aziraphale, he knows he’s not mean spirited he’s just ignorant. And he does make adjustments in his ethics when press with facts but it’s very warped because he cannot see the grey.

*Everyone panicking running away to hide from the guards and Crowley is just strolling along with his lamp like some graveyard ghoul*

This scene has given me two new verbal stims:

In seriousness though he quite literally saves Elspeths life, and he probably changes the trajectory of her entire family line. AND he took the fall for it after he stopped Aziraphale saving Wee Morag. Again, Crowley sticking his neck out to do what he thinks is right. But he also stops Aziraphale doing anything that might cause him problems in heaven.

The next time they see each other is when Crowley is asking for holy water… so who knows what happened to him after this.

Just finished off The Magicians (the syfy adaptation, in case there was any confusion). Was told to expect something godawful; was actually pleasantly surprised, in the sense that this is the only time I’ve seen a show like this semi-competently wrap everything up in a normal-length season finale that comes on the tail of one of their basically-could-have-been-in-the-middle-of-an-earlier-season Wacky Heist Plots. It was a shitshow but not Rise-of-Skywalker levels. It should have been much more viscerally unpleasant than it was.

Structurally I feel like one of the show’s biggest problems was that they never really worked out what to do with Quentin, their erstwhile protagonist; Conceptually, he’s interesting because he’s meh. He’s Harry Potter if Harry Potter’s childhood was conventionally shitty, middle-of-the-road suburbia shitty, and there’s an interesting statement wrapped up in how his unwavering love of the fantasy series of his childhood is validated (it was all very literally real!) but he himself isn’t necessarily exceptional, he’s the “chosen one” not by birthright but by virtue of groundhog day shenanigans where the people who instigated the loop keep trying to steer him into not getting everyone killed, he’s kind of a fuckup and a burnout who keeps learning that escape isn’t and can’t be what he needs it to be. All of which worked really well for me in the first season.

But to synthesize a lot of meandering misgivings I have with his character arc.... you can only push the disillusionment line so far before he basically gets that being the chosen one is a bogus concept and that fantasy novels aren’t a life roadmap... and from there he’s basically just constantly putting out emergent fires, and I never felt like there was necessarily a thesis with his character- the bones of one, rattling around, the obvious parallels he has with the first-season Big Bad as an obsessive looking for an escape, but never quite realized. And without looking it up, his death feels like the kind of thing where the actor wanted to leave the show and the writers had to grit their teeth and make do.

All of this leading to a situation where, in the final Quentinless season, it’s very strange because the cast is objectively now composed entirely of cast members I found more interesting and charming and funnier on their face than Quentin, and they’re throwing in a lot of meta-level elbows to the rib about how it was never really Quentin’s story exclusively, right, these characters are strong enough to carry it themselves, but there’s undeniably something missing, for all his deliberate mediocrity. Well, that’s kind of it, isn’t it? Deliberately trying to cultivate mediocrity in a character in order to make a point, but then not springboarding to something more complicated than that, at least not in a way I found satisfying. I mean if you start cracking jokes about how you don’t really need your mediocre white male protagonist that badly, and then you demonstrate that you’re basically right.... that’s kind of an implicit condemnation of the four seasons you spent with this guy as the lead, isn’t it? The bottom should fall out of your show, actually, if you remove the protagonist. Pick a guy who is the center of the story, with a good reason for that. Or keep the haves-and-have-nots dual-life-path-with-the-childhood-friend thing going further. I dunno. I respect their attempted pivot into an ensemble thing but it didn’t quite land.

(Also I didn’t like the Penny-23/Penny-40 situation. It was like they couldn’t figure out a satisfying direction for Penny 40 so they pseudo-kill him and replace him with a version whose character development occurred in a doomed timeline. Other things could have happened there!)

But, broadly speaking, I did like it moment to moment. There was never a single moment that I was watching the show and wanted to not be, never a single moment where I was not entertained, very few jokes that I didn’t find entertaining. I think this might be what it’s like to watch an okay television program. Striking that balance where nothing you’re watching is too grotesquely uninteresting that you get up and walk away, even if the zoomed-out overarching narrative skeleton is one of those bizarre badly reconstructed fossil amalgamations borne out of the 1800s paleontological arms races. Interesting experience all around.

I watched RWRB and I am disappointed. They cut all the best bits and made it seem that all there wad between Alex and Henry was lust.

SPOILERS!!!

No Bea dumping tea over Philips head and blaming it on the crack she used to smoke

No June at all, no Leo, Alex's parents are happily married which fine I guess but not how it was in the book.

No Cash, which again not the end of the world but i liked him

there was no Rafael Luna so all of that with him didn't happen.

we get a sleezy press guy that Alex apparently hooked up with. I think it way funnier how he needed to basically be slapped in the face with his sexuality by Nora.

Pez is there but they tell us basically nothing about him and he's barely there. he's great in the book but the movie he's meh at best.

No power point

No star wars. its not a thing at all.

We get no late night ice cream at the palace. Alex doesn't even stay he fly in and fly's out like the same day.

We see Henry talk to the cancer patient but don't hear him say anything. The closet scene at the hospital is like 2 seconds of almost nothing.

And worst of all they cut "I want you" "Then fucking have me" from the movie entirely

Henrys mother is just gone, they make a offhanded comment about her saving elephants I think somewhere. i don't remember where.

I'm sure there are a million more little things and probably big things too but it's 4am and I'm tired so I'm gonna get sleep now.

All in all very inaccurate and not great in general in my opinion. which is very disappointing because I love the book. it's one of my favs.

I will give them that Zarah's line about Alex acting like the sun shines out of Henry's ass was better than the original line. And they kept "History Huh?, Bet We Could Make Some". Alex's speech after there emails are leaked is great.

question time! Since Dick seems have it made with adult skills in WMLP I'm curious about the others. How's the rest of the team doing on adulting skills? Does Wally even know how to drive?

Considering Wally wasn't overly invested in learning to drive, during the show, on his 16th birthday I'd say no. There's a chance his parents taught him anyway but I think it's funnier if he just has no clue. I do intend on writing a scene of Dick teaching Wally to drive. Chances of it ending in chaos are high.

Artemis is all set on adulting but she gives me the vibes of a 20-something who calls herself a fully-grown-child or something. Tiktok adults like 'i need an adultier adult!' kinda vibes. She refuses to acknowledge that she is 25, she is perpetually 20 until further notice.

Conner is like. Meh. Like he can mostly handle himself if the need arises, he can cook himself food that's sustaining, he knows how to keep both himself and his living space clean, he functions. I wouldn't put him further than that. If he was given free reign in a grocery store without full context and an assigned mission he'd get lost in the aisles till he inevitably ended up standing in the cereal aisle looking at the many different ways you can eat high-sugar, low-protein grains in different shapes and sizes. Options are the enemy.

Kaldur is very similar. You know that thing where veterans who are dealing with PTSD struggle in "adult" situations due to the sheer amount of stimulus and decision making? Yeah. That's him. In his current state asking him 'what would you like to drink with breakfast this morning?' would reduce him to tears within five minutes.

M'gaan was hopeless at cooking in the show and I don't think they ever actually said she got significantly better over the course of the first season so uh. Yeah. She then lives as a tortured psychic lap dog for a glorified tyrant for a decade. She doesn't know how to do anything. Moreover she shapeshifts her own clothing half the time. She probably couldn't tell the difference between a washing machine and a dryer by appearance.

I am obsessed with the way they are all affected in different ways by their traumas so I'm so glad you're interested! Thanks for letting me ramble.

I worked overnight last night and slept all day and it was great but I have to work tm morning and I kinda feel like going crazy but I think if I worked nights exclusively it wouldn’t be bad . Idk mt body just likes to be awake at night and sleep during the day. People come into the ER at 2 am on a Monday morning cause their throat hurts or their tummy hurts like bro. Saying it hurt so bad they could t sleep. And ur trying to pay several hundred plus dollars cause u can’t wait 6 more hourse to get to urgent care?

I was scared for ER cause I thought everyone would be dying left and right but I haven’t even seen the first stemi. Saw one possible suspected nstemi but she was so stable. Saw this neurologist on an iPad do a stroke eval on some1 but wasn’t my patient idk. Oh I was tasked to perform “digital fecal disimpaction” which is exactly what it sounds like it js. I couldn’t feel anything I was like hold tf still woman I’m tryna get this poop But even the MD couldn’t get it so I didn’t feel like I fucked up. Got an F in manually removing shit from someone’s asshole. Beat the allegations etc etc. Worry not sir/ma’am this isn’t the first time my finger has been in someone else’s butthole! Same w pelvic exams which I’ve gotten so good btw. Worry not ma’am this isn’t the first time my knuckles have been flush with a perineum! Ch 7 of Scarlet Blaze

Spoilers for up to Ch 7 beneath the cut. Sorry this took forever.

STORY

How can you not root for Claude here? Edelgard invading the Alliance makes no sense outside of blatant Imperialism.

Lysithea decided to fight the Empire against the wishes of her parents. Tell that to someone the next time they call her an honorary eagle.

Oh, shit, Byleth. Oh, God, I don't wanna fight him again.

There is nothing funnier than the warmongering imperialists getting pissy their victims are setting "traps" and "ambushes" to try and stop them.

MAP

So I'm being a dick to everyone because it's fun, then I see Ashe. And he's like "I can fight the Alliance, but I dread fighting the Kingdom." But I'm going to be nice to him. He's miserable.

Ferdinand is like "It's so cool you're fighting with us, Lorenz!" What a moron. Like Lorenz had a choice. Thankfully he got called out.

Oh, there's paralogues? cool. I think I'll do the side battles first. Special battles tend to be harder. Though, when I have Lorenz and Dimitri that won't be an issue lamo.

Arval senses something dangerous. I'm guessing Sothis-awakened Byleth? Think Arval is predicting what just happened in AG.

I cooked like 5 only "nice" in a row. Shez needs to step up.

SHEZ & CASPAR C SUPPORT

They argue about who's stronger. That's . . . really unexpected. /s

Bringing up the heir stuff and "need to get stronger" thing we already know.

Shez finds Caspar inspiring. His competitive drive. They're rivals now.

Meh

LINHARDT & HUBERT C SUPPORT

Lamo, Hubert's like "we had a clear victory" when Glouster just betrayed their ass. Bad support timing, lamo.

So far they're just fangirling about Shez's skills.

And here's the part someone told me about where Linhardt is actually interested in Shez, which runs counter to his support with Shez lol.

Hubert's first mistake was trying to get Linhardt to work.

Linhardt is trying to coach Hubert on the ways of persuasion. Needless to say, none of them are good ideas.

In the end they just agree their conversations go nowhere. That's the only support they have.

HUBERT & HAPI C SUPPORT

Hubert's checking in on her. He wants to make sure she's ok so she's not sighing everywhere.

Hapi's annoyed with him. Good on her.

Hubert seems like he asked her to use her powers in battle, but she objects on moral grounds. And is pissed he just assumed things about her.

Or is he offering to experiment on her to try and remove the sighs? Sounds it's more like that?

Oh, no, it's both.

Hapi got pissed.

Oh, wait, this isn't over. Hubert's trying to butter her up with treats, lamo. She's not falling for it. And tells Hubert to stay away.

OMG Hubert is acting like an incel right now. "What, I just ignored your 'no,' kept bothering you, gave you treats, and then acted like I have no alternative motive."

To Hapi's credit. She said no to the treats.

My first Hapi support ever. Just realized.

EDELGARD & FERDINAND C SUPPORT

Ferdinand sounds upset. Oh, because he's visiting his locked up dad.

Ferdinand is investigating his dad. Edelgard thinks it's pointless because he's powerful enough to forge documents and witnesses etc . . .

Ferdinand almost turned his dad in after finding bad tax stuff.

Edelgard locking him up robbed Ferdinand of his resolution, so now he's floundering and doesn't know what to do with himself.

Ferdinand sounds like his confidence has been crushed, ngl.

Interested to see where this goes. It looks like Ferdinand may actually get a proper arc beyond being Edelgard's mindless cheerleader #4 and his "arc" is only accepting just how much more awesome she is than himself.

It's also better than everyone acting like he's a plague like pretty much all his Black Eagle C supports and some B.

EDELGARD & JERITZA C SUPPORT

Ok, really curious about this one. I'm amazed they didn't get a support in Houses.

He's not engaging her at all. Literally just ...

She called him Emile, and he got pissed off. Jeritza is like "Emile is dead!" Edelgard's is like nah.

She also says the house will one day belong to him. For an emperor planning to get rid of the nobility, that's . . . a look.

Jeritza warns her that her using the Death Knight is dangerous. She kinda mocks him about that. Yikes.

They agree it's just a contract between them. Bet she's baiting him to say otherwise.

Didn't really address anything I was curious about, but has potential.

EDELGARD & HUBERT B SUPPORT

Curious about this one. I love the idea of their relationship, but their A-Support left me wanting and unlike Felix and Dimitri (who's A-Support also left me wanting), their paired endings and dynamics outside of main game stuff and/or other routes doesn't make up for it (and well, Hopes, damn, whoever wrote this game loves Dimilix and I, whoever you are, bless you for that).

Edelgard's like "what's Rhea doing?" Hubert's like "Helping Duscur orphans and crashing on Dimitri's couch binging Netflix and eating ice cream right out of the tub. I know, evil, right?"

Oh, hey, confirmation Lord Arundel is Thales, though I think that got confirmed earlier in this route?

"We are no longer complicit in their schemes." Does that mean Hopes!Edelgard is admitting that Houses!Edelgard IS complicit for everything TWSITD did? Lamo.

Hubert sounds like an incel "you must remain unsullied" like I get it, but out of context + his looks and personality and obsession I can't help myself.

Oh, hey, look at that Hubert getting thanks from Edelgard. I think this may be the first time, lamo. Some of these lines seem like the writers saw how everyone called her out for never giving Hubert any credit because she was too busy panting after Byleth.

Eh, simple, but covered something desperately missing for them. Still an extremely basic support, but we still have A.

EDELGARD & BALTHUS C SUPPORT

Really curious to see what on earth these two could talk about?

Balthus wants to be her bodyguard. I'd turn him down flat. Seems like if someone paid him more he'd flip unless you're special like Hilda.

Wow, Edelgard told him to talk to Hubert. You think she could pick out her own bodyguards. Him impersonating Hubert was funny though.

SHEZ & MONICA C SUPPORT

Really interested in this one. So far I don't have much of a clue what Monica's character is like outside of practical and pro-Empire

Monica wants to watch Edelgard eat cake. Uhhh, ok. She sounds like a less interesting Hubert.

LINHARDT & DOROTHEA B SUPPORT

I hope these two have something to talk about outside of whining that Edelgard didn't fawn all over cake.

Linhardt played hookie on the war council. He had someone take notes though.

Wait . . . did . . . did Linhardt just say they should use multiple routes for supply lines? Does . . . Edelgard is launching a full-scale invasion of two countries at the same time and only using ONE SUPPLY LINE????? I just . . . No wonder they're fucking losing.

Dorothea's like "OMG, so brilliant!!!" Guys, this is like suggesting you invest in more than a single company, only a step above "don't keep it sitting in the bank." It's the 102 basics. 😅

Linhardt is my spirit animal, doing everything in his power to avoid meetings.

Didn't learn anything about Dorothea or Linhardt, but I did learn the Imperial Army is run by a bunch of dumbasses.

SHEZ & BERNEADETTA C SUPPORT

Bernie is afraid of Shez's mercenary buddy, thinking he looks like a bandit.

Shez is telling her not to judge based on appearances. Bernie's not having it though.

SHEZ & HUBERT C SUPPORT

Seems weird I haven't gotten this yet. When I saw this unlocked, I thought it was B since I'm ALWAYS using Hubert in battle.

Shez said hire more commoners. Hubert compared that to finding pebbles instead of jewels lamo. He just meant caution against hiring bad commoners which would backfire, but it's still funny.

Hubert is so extra.

Is Shez like the only commoner that's promoted? Hubert is saying Shez should be in charge of promoting commoners.

STORY/MAIN BATTLE

I wish Edelgard would just surrender to Claude and stop trying to conquer, but oh well.

So our goal is just to break Claude's lines long enough for Caspar's dad to escape.

Recruiting lots of Golden Deer this time. Poor Claude if it's really true that no one leaves Dimitri, but they'll all leave him.

Oh, great, "Persuade Raphael" requires Ignatz, doesn't it? Does he have to stay alive? I'll just make him an adjunct.

Feels bad fighting Claude to protect . . . Bergliez 😒

So this is when Byleth goes Sothis mode in SB?

"Look how many people died because I decided to fight this war." Claude, you really didn't have a choice.

Didn't Dimitri say something the same? It's funny how everyone is blaming themselves for all the people dying except for the person who's actually responsible.

Seems like Arval is manipulating Shez. Back to Sothis getting character assassination. Still not as bad off as poor Alois. He should sue the writers, seriously.

I love how in AG retaking the Silver Maiden was such a nonentity that it didn't even get its own chapter lamo.

Why is Edelgard fighting both at the same time? Ferdinand is calling that out at least.

Everyone is talking politics. And Shez is like "Ashen Demon, failed, feels bad." Like, no one cares.

Honestly, this "rivalry" feels so tacked on as an excuse to make Byleth seem more important in Hopes than they actually are. And this isn't SB exclusive. It's that way in all 3 routes.
