PDFs of this and more can be found over on at my Patreon here!
5th week of the month, which means I'm free to pursue random ideas that I had the past many months
Remember these from 3rd ed? I get why they aren't a thing anymore, since it's the sorcerer's gimmick. But the metamagic adept feat now exists. So it's about on par with what it used to be anyway.
Three metamagics are missing, mostly because the advantage on miss stick, and the disadvantage on your saves stick seemed really strong, and really boring. The change the damage types stick is probably better as its own item outside of the metamagic rods.
And now to plug my stuff. I release homebrews weekly over on my Patreon. Anyone who pledges $1 or more per post don't have to wait a month to see them, and also help fund my being alive habit.
At the moment, they have exclusive access to the following:
Sea Domain
Pirates
Maritime Merrow Menace
Open Source Boats

Maybe I should actually share some of the character art I've done for our campaign! Two characters are missing because there's some up in the air things about their designs (looking at you Sierra and Molly). The two missing characters are Ursa and Makera for future reference.
In order though, we have Zeal Eddison (Celestial Warlock/Divine Soul Sorcerer), Eddisar of the Long Sight (Lore Bard/Wild Magic Sorcerer), Ataché (Glamour Bard), Peanut (Open Sea Paladin), and Traverse (Battle Master Fighter).
I have a TON TO SAY about these characters but I will spare you all for now, there will inevitably be doodles along the way where I will spill my thoughts as the campaign progresses.

ok now i NEED to know your beef with sorcerers. i dont have an opinion but i do have popcorn
I'm going to be honest. It's just a general beef I have with "special characters."
like all the d&d classes have a general story attached to them. you can try to subvert the archetype but it's always present. you're still going to have to interact with it somehow. like there is, and there should be, a difference in character in between choosing to play a barbarian vs a fighter, a cleric vs a paladin, a druid vs a ranger, a wizard vs a warlock, etc outside of just what abilities/stats you want. you don't have to play into an exact archetype (not all paladins are Robo-Cop and all that), but especially with how balanced the classes are in 5e, I think it's important to ask yourself when coming up with a personality for your character: why is this character this class and not something else? how do they relate to their class? what does it add to their narrative?
and I think the sorcerer's flavor just sucks especially when it's contrasted against the other full casters. it lacks the studiousness of wizards, the devotion of clerics and druids, or the cunning of bards and warlocks. at the risk of sounding like Ludinus Da'leth, sorcerer's abilities are boring to me because they don't come from anything intrinsic to the sorcerer's character outside of a vague sense of "I'm a special boy and the rules don't apply to me. oho, where did this new power come from?"
and the proverbial you can try to work with that if you really want to prove me wrong. try to find some way to make Chosen One characters interesting to me in a way a thousand stories before it have never quite managed, but like, why would anyone want to play a lame sorcerer when you could just play a cleric or wizard or bard or paladin or any other class that, I don't know, actually works for a living unlike these sorcerer nepo-babies. /joke

i dont usually play ao with sound on but i started doing it to get past elius on my new save (i need his arrow rain audio cue..) and there are several Things i have noticed
fishing has audio cues (!!!) oh my god its so much less annoying now
there's bossfight music?? i turned music off b/c i have my own, so idk about general bgm
glass magic is very loud and possibly obnoxious
glass makes rubble (dunno if it does anything) that shatters with loud glass breaking noises. this makes most of my fights very loud and full of glass sfx, and probably super annoying for nearby players. sorry lol
idk if its a sound design thing or something, metal certainly doesn't make loud CLANG noises when hitting stuff, it has nice explosion noises and subtler clanging noises. maybe glass sounds more uhh, disturbing? because it has no actual explosion noise and is higher pitched?
anyway my fights have been super super noisy since awakening. i think this could be considered funny, possibly

what moment made you laugh the hardest in bloodkeep? And which of the knock-off LotR npcs is your favorite?
hardest laugh was definitely every single j'er'em'ih moment, but especially the skyship battle when he killed markus's brother and fully anchored himself to the wheel and had to make intelligence checks to sail the ship with his -4 intelligence. good for him <3 also, of course, the entire avanash saga, but especially sokhbarr on his good insight giving the simple "i don't know about this one, guys," as this man says clearly the most unhinged things in the world. and brennan's "this man is Full Crazy." he sure is!!
also GALFAST. galfast galfast galfast. i love her with my whole entire heart!! samwise gamgee turned into an overly polite but badass lesbian with the statistics of a fucking hill giant. the only correct choice

while it is most commonly taught-- and indeed, for most spellcasters, easiest-- to cast spells by strongly visualizing the desired outcome, melliwyk has always found it much easier to picture The Weave itself, her hands twisting into its threads to directly manipulate its effects upon the material plane and direct the magic from its source. consequently many of her somatic gestures are evocative of twisting, grasping, or breaking strings, her fingers splaying through the air as if through a complex cat's cradle
