I want to expand on this idea in the future:
Dutch Van der Linde is the perfect analogy for the white saviour.
He presents himself as someone who believes in equality; however, he uses his progressive stand views as long as it's rewarded with praise, his support is very minimal (basically not being overtly racist) and receives praise over it, but is willing to overlook racism if it benefits him ( him letting Micah stay in the gang), his views are literally based on a privileged man pretending to understand the oppressed (Evelyn Miller, Lenny calls him out on this), he pretends to care and empathize with the structures of oppression but is very willing to exploit them anyways (the whole thing with the wapiti tribe).
at his core I think Dutch would see himself as a saviour -but the narrative itself shows who he really is, and what every white saviour at its core is: A fake hero.
Sure, Dutch's saviour complex and manipulation is evident with all characters, but to pretend that race or ethnicity doesn't hold a big role in how these dynamics work (especially on the time period) would be willful ignorance.

Watching people argue over tipping culture is just wild because the only two arguments presented are "pay the servers a living wage to begin with" and "servers actually make like 40$ an hour and you're killing them by guaranteeing a wage instead of letting them get tips."
My ass was queer in the South working at an IHOP making $2.14 an hour and going home with about 35$ a SHIFT on average, and it was NOT because I didn't do a good job. I had no idea I was queer at the time, I just had short hair and by god that was enough. Everyone else could smell it on me. My coworkers were pulling in 80, 100 every time I turned around and I was in college killing myself over paychecks that didn't cover my gas for the whole week. I begged to be allowed to host because they got the guaranteed $7.50 an hour.
I think it's stupid that restaurants are inflating prices by adding 20%-plus gratuities on checks and then saying that's not a tip. Like, I don't think this is being handled well and it feels like malicious compliance/like customers are meant to resent the servers and the idea of a fair wage for them, but I very much believe servers should not be paid a base rate of subminimum wage. That shit fucking sucks.
Your personality and your human face being the basis by which people decide if you eat tonight or make your rent is some horseshit. That's the bottom line.

nah cuz u arent a REAL fan if you laugh when manolo sinfgs creep ..,... real tbol fans FW CREEP 💯💯‼️‼️‼️ (/hj /lh)
if you're like me and you're an over-observer and notice the smallest obscurest details ever, you would realize that creep actually aligns SO much with manolo for the first half of the movie. (also heads-up warning this is not organized well, bear with me 😭)
"ay maría, when you were here before, couldn't look you in the eye" that line alone represents manolo's feelings EVER SINCE childhood — when maría was still in san ángel, he'd always be with maría (and if you look hard enough HE ALMOST ALWAYS LOOKS AT HER, usually w/ admiration/curiosity), then when she left he "couldn't look her in the eye" anymore both literally and figuratively because when manolo showcased his bullfighting skills, carlos trained manolo 24/7 to the BONE for like. what 10 YEARS???!,!, for the entire time maría was away
for those exact 10 years, his life revolved around the phrase "music is not work fit for a sánchez bullfighter" when he knOWS to himself that bullfighting isn't really his thing — even IF he's skilled at it — and he's rly passionate about music. apart from that the point of bullfighting is to kill the bull, in which he rejects the idea because killing is wrong and maría loves animals. hes a LOVER, not a fighter 😭😭
he loves his family EQUALLY as he loves maría and music, so you can definitely tell he was conflicted by that.
gonna need a part 2 cuz i ran out of image space 🥹🥹 wait for meeee

Small towns on TV always have so many restaurant options. “Should we get Chinese or Indian tonight?” A town that size has neither. You have one diner that’s open Tuesday-Thursday and alternating Fridays but ONLY from 2-4 and there’s a pizza place that’s open on the weekends from noon until whenever they feel like leaving.
