Hello! I decided to do a research presentation on the "cannibalism" tag and it's relations to the MCYT communities on AO3! I looked into time frames, overall fandom data, individual character data and made a hopefully coherent conclusion on the information I gathered. I will be posting a link to my very messy excel file where I stored the base information via reblog, so check the notes.
I used canva for the statistics graphs and indesign to put this together... And a big big thank you and a shout out to my very good friend @theslyvoid9 who made 99% of the drawings used in this presentation and who also helped me look up data!!!
I hope you enjoy this little project of ours! Also please remember that this was made in pure fun, so please don't be rude to anyone. If there are typos or weird number errors, or if we missed out on some SMPs I am very sorry ^_^
Enjoy!

its really funny to me that etho has convinced people he's actually not a naruto fan and he just randomly chose a kakashi skin when he absolutely is

Themed bases - medieval, sci-fi, underwater, modern etc.
Aftermath of destruction - cleaning up after pranks, explosions, party etc.
Religious builds - ex: church of prime or church of the blood sheep or mumbo's s7 beating heart base
I will be tracking the tag (#mcytbuildsmonth) up to two weeks after the event is finished, so don't be pressured to post on the correct dates. Open to questions if you have any.
STARTS TODAY

I was recently watching Etho's UHC episodes and the difference between how he played at that time and the life series now caught my attention (I'm not talking about PvP skills or anything like that). He was much more competitive, even though he wasn't just playing to win, he loved to arm himself, hunt, and eliminate other players. Nowadays he simply plays with his friends, hopes to survive, and maybe kill some opponents while he's at it.
Perhaps he has matured and is just tired of deadly games, maybe he isn't good at dealing with the dynamics of the life series, since it is an extremely social game and he is better at surviving alone. Just remember how his best performances at UHC (apart from the S4a where he was the only survivor of the winning team) were when he was on his own, he placed in first or second 3 or 4 times, if I remember correctly.
I'm sure this has been debated countless times and I don't think it's possible to determine the truth without Etho himself talking about it. I was just thinking about this and decided to comment.

the various skills of ethoslab and how he learned them and when. the list of a man who's lived a bit longer than he should have. (inspired by this post)
field meals: it's just soup. he never makes them for anyone else, not until they lose the grainy texture they start with. he learns from a man in a village that questions why he covers his face. etho laughs, but he never tells him why. the man doesn't ask again. he tells him that if he lets the vegetables soften for longer that they won't make a gritty soup when mashed. he learns spiced pumpkin, beetroot, chicken and potato.
(he stays for two weeks. he rids the nearby temple of infestation in repayment. when the temple master tries to repay him with gold, he tells him that he only wants a written recipe of how to bake bread. the baker’s son gives him one with honey in it.)
soap making: is something he learns pretty early on in his career in machinery. it's no good just to rinse your hands in water and it's still no good just to be buying soap up-charged, and lye isn't any good alone. lye doesn't smell, or worse yet, smells heavy and thick and doesn't come off your skin or out of your clothes properly. he picks up a book somewhere about it. one part lye. one part oil. one part anything else. beeswax and honey. pine tar and coconut oil. he learns what mixtures get redstone out of his clothes and what he can use to wash his hair with so it doesn't frizz. he washes his clothes in a basin of warm water and honey and rosemary soap, as he does his blankets and his sheets until his whole home smells like rosemary and honey and lye and beeswax. he washes his hair and it smells like pine.
plant identification: it takes one bad meal. one bad berry before etho starts learning. pause gets sick in the snow, really sick. he doesn't cough up blood but the sheen of sweat never leaves his face for the entire week that he lies shivering under two coats and a blanket. every time etho and beef try to say something comforting, he says, “stop fussing over me, i'm fine, just food poisoning. beef cooked the chicken wrong.” (it wasn't the chicken. it was the elderberries. etho spends time figuring out what the ripe ones look and taste like. he learns mistletoe, nettles and hogweed, rosary peas and lily of the valley. he doesn't see any of them except the lily again. but he keeps the information for later.) pause gets better after a week of his eyes far away, glazed over, sweating, of him unable to keep down fluids, of shaking awake in the night, holding etho's hand. they get sick, but nobody gets sick like that again.
sewing: pause steadies his hands. he tells him that if he messes up he'll poke himself and beef tells him to stop fussing. etho can thread a needle, can't he? (he can't.) he stabs his index finger three times poking it through the fabric to make a crude patch with their initials on it. then he sews shut a tear on beef's jacket, then he affixes a handful of new buttons to an old shirt of bdubs'. bdubs has him sewing squares within the week, and they stitch together a quilt of scrap fabric big enough for them both. there isn't a cold night that the quilt doesn't stave away. it's in a different spot each time etho sees him: draped over a chair, lovingly folded on the bedside, pulled over his shoulders. they wear it threadbare.
braiding: his hair gets too long. he ties it back himself the first time, some loose thing that falls out as soon as he does it. he says to himself (a reminder): “you break it into three. you're always crossing over the middle most strand. right over middle, then right becomes middle, so left over the middle. and repeat. pulling tight.” he gets better at it, until he can tie a strong three strand braid that he learned from tying twine together to make a stronger rope. bdubs sees him pull it back a few times and braid it like that, and one of those times, late, when they're both tired and leaning on each other, he turns and takes his loose hair and asks if he can braid it. etho shrugs and says “sure.” (and his voice says only you can do that). bdubs says “sit still.” etho sits in front of his crossed legs and bdubs combs out his hair. he tells him as he works: “it's different than the three, but not that different. you pull an extra strand in each time. it looks like fish scales, so people call it a fishtail.” bdubs braids and pulls it tight. he leans forward into etho and etho leans back into him.
(etho spends two days knotting fraying ropes in fishtail braids so his hands learn (and he fidgets, and he fidgets, and it becomes his new fidget, to tie rope together) before he attempts it on his shoulder-blade length hair. bdubs guides his hands, starting him off until he can braid the top too. he only cuts it once—right before the second death games, and even then, bdubs manages to braid a little braid into his hair.)
tea specialist: it's methodical. that's what he learns, when he travels out further than he had in a long time and wanders into the city. he, like many adventurers, takes refuge, and he, unlike many adventurers, stumbles into the tea shop and takes it all in. steady hands (beef taught him that) keep him from crushing the leaves too fine to strain. he learns what hot water feels like in a tin kettle and how to prop it properly on the coals so it heats even and doesn't char the underside of the tin. he buys two wooden cups there, sealed with wax, and brings them with the kettle. it stays on the countertop.
(he uses it every night. later, in a snow fort in the middle of nowhere, he sets one of the wooden cups into the calloused hands of his partner and friend, and bdoubleo looks at him with eyes wide and round and red. he doesn't kill him when he sleeps.)
staving off the effects of sleep deprivation: there's a body sleeping next to him that needs him awake. there's a place someone can sit between wake and dream that makes sure that the body doesn't tire and it's here where he stays. his heart slows way down, but his eyes stay alert through a bleary haze. there are things he hears that aren't real. when his partner (partner, the word feels weird on his tongue now that bdubs is a red life. if they were anywhere else, he would be safe to sleep) wakes two hours from now, then he will rest. he will lie there and listen, waiting to hear him stop breathing. he never gets to that point, but he certainly sleeps very little. beef and pause never told him off for doing it, but when there were sections of the day that he didn't remember and he sat up and there was a coat draped over his knees with a tag that had VB written in chunky letters, he smiled to himself. he's tired now, but he's good at pretending he's not.
separating the things that are dreams from the ones that are not: he's still waiting for someone to tell him how to do that

Fandom(s): Life SMP & Mindcrack SMP (flashback related) Relationship(s): Bdoubleo100 & Kurtjmac (general) Rating: G Word count: 1.2k
Bdubs has had a variety of skins. But what about the red headband? Ten years and he couldn't let go of what was now an iconic look.
A/N: this is me getting sappy nostalgia for mindcrack again and i need people to know who made Bdubs' skin. bc bdubs continued to use it and build off it forever. okay im emo. also note that as far as all old videos show me, this was bdubs' first ever alternate skin as well.
===
Bdubs parts his hair out of the way, pushing it out and over the headband pressed against his forehead. He glances to the side at the chatter of Etho and Cleo some way off, as he makes his way around the stone hill they've claimed.
“Oh Bdubs!” Scar's voice comes in, joining Bdubs near center, the place where all their materials sat. “You ready for today?”
Bdubs looked up to see Scar had changed his skin again, stifling a laugh. Not a new outfit as he was lacking half of it. The shirt, of course. “Uh, yes Scar. Yes I am.”
“What? What's funny?” Scar knew, his sentence broke with a short giggle. “Do you not like what I changed into?”
“You didn't change into anything. You just took your shirt off!” Bdubs laughed, looking to the side. He was always amused by Scar's insistence to find ways to not have a shirt in this series. Not that Bdubs couldn't do that too- it just wasn't his kind of lookthese days.
“Okay, okay true.” Scar nodded as he walked past Bdubs. “But at least I'm not using the same skin over and over!”
“Wh- what're you getting at?” Bdubs looked back over at Scar with his arms crossed. “My skin is different! Look- Look- I got more clocks, I added one last season!”
Scar squinted as he looked at Bdubs' variety of clocks. “Hmm. Okay, sure. But what about- what about the... you know like, you've had this look for a long time still. Why don't you change it up?” Bdubs looked down at himself. A different shirt, different pants, different hair. But the other parts were the same. The sling across his torso, the red--
“How long have you even had that?”
“Hm?” Bdubs glanced back up, seeing Scar pointing to his head. “Oh, the- the headband?”
“Yeah- has that- is that like, the same one every time? How old is that thing?” Scar asked, sounding suddenly more curious than accusatory about his lack of skins for the series.
“It's uh... Yeah, I guess its just the same one.” He never thought too hard about it. “I mean, as much as it can be. Thing's been stitched back together, of course. No piece of fabric can last uh- last over ten years.”
“Ten years?” Scar was sounded in awe over the simple piece of fabric. “Wow, thats- that's a long time. A very long time.”
Bdubs couldn't help but smile for a moment, just at the thought. Ten years is a long time to keep the same look. “Yeah, well. It kind of just became the look after a while. Guess it's hard to change after that long.”
“Okay-” Scar gave a short laugh, “Okay well, I guess I can't blame you for keeping it the same still. It does suit you!”
“Oh, you're too nice..” Bdubs said with a chuckle. “But you should still get a shirt for next episode, alright?”
“Okay, fine. I'll find something.”
The moment Scar pulled his attention elsewhere, Bdubs' mind went back to Scar's question. Hardly did anyone ever comment on his choice of skin. Which was a shame only in that he did have reasons for not changing his since last life. Maybe he'd talk about that at some point. Outside of that though, he just hadn't thought about it. The look- the whole look in general had been the same ever since.... forever, basically. He ran his hand over the red band, feeling the material as it had always been. Stitched, stained, sometimes barely holding itself together. It was still the same one though.
“You haven't changed yet?”
It took a moment before Bdubs turned around, but when he did he was greeted by the familiar face of Kurt. It was almost hard to notice him under the shadow of the Arena's overhang, no matter how many torches had been spammed across the walls. Bdubs was atop a makeshift tower of dirt scaffolding, fixing some misaligned stone on the walls of the Arena. He started to shimmy his way down carefully, as Kurt watched patiently.
“What's that?” Bdubs said as himself off.
Kurt's eyes ran from Bdubs' feet to his head, giving a small smile. “The, uh... you're still wearing your UHC get-up.”
“Oh.” Bdubs gave a short laugh. “Yeah I- I guess I forgot. Not a bad thing though, suits me I think!”
“Well I- I'm glad you like it at least.” Kurt glanced away shyly as he walked over. “Or I assume you like it.”
“Of course I like it!” Bdubs said it like it was obvious, giving Kurt a nudge once he was closer. “You made it and- it looks good, man! How could I not like it?”
The moment Bdubs started going off, Kurt was quickly flustered by the compliments. “Um, I.. Thank you.”
Bdubs held his gaze for a few minutes without saying anything- perhaps just giving a moment for Kurt to cool down from the nice words. But how could Bdubs not say it? He didn't have any other skins, and out of all people to make one for him, he couldn't be more happy that Kurt decided to come up with something. The striking red headband stood out. And sure, he hadn't considered going shirtless for a UHC but it made sense. Definitely. At the very least it looked cool- that's what mattered.
Eventually he moved to the nearby bleachers, sitting down and patting the spot beside him. He'd been build all day, it felt better to relax for a light conversation.
“What made you made you pick the red?”
Kurt was slightly distracted, blinking to look back at Bdubs when he spoke again. “The red headband?”
“Yeah, yeah- you 'n Doc were blue, looked good- I was just wonderin'.” Bdubs paused as he too thought about it for a moment. “Not complaining, of course.”
“Ah well.” Kurt started, pursing his lips as he too went to think. He wasn't sure he actually had a deeper reason for it. “It uh, you know.. I just think it... stands out more? I think its... It's recognizable.”
“It does...! It does stand out.” Bdubs chuckled, leaning with his hand on his chin as he looked at Kurt.
Kurt wasn't good at making conversation really, and especially when it focused on his work. Talking up about himself wasn't easy, more so when Bdubs was all the more happy to throw compliments back at him all the time. It was much appreciated still.
“I love it though. I think I'll use it next season too.” Bdubs glanced away briefly in thought.
Kurt blinked at him. “Oh, really?”
“Yeah! Maybe again after that.” He grinned as he continued, “Maybe for every season? I don't think I'll need a new one.”
Kurt couldn't help but blush at the gesture. “O.. oh, well. I wouldn't be upset if you got a different one at some point...”
“No, no I couldn't..!” Bdubs waved, dismissing the idea. “Like I said, it suits me well!”
Kurt was silent for a moment, unable to find a response to Bdubs' thoughtful words. “Yes, I.. I think it does suit you well.”
