Small house made to resemble a mid-game survival house!
This is actually for a fic that i’m working on, (linked here!) that includes a beginner builder trying to learn to become better while still staying true to the blocks he loves!
The floor is made of stripped oak logs, along with oak trapdoor and door features. The walls are cobble and mossy cobble, with the moss crawling up from the grass, and leaking down from the moss roof, whihc has azaleas, grass, and flowers. The corners of the exteriors are shaped by walls, giving the building less of a rectangular look.
The interior is stocked with all a survival player could ask for; storage, an enchanting library, a bed, furnaces, and some lovely indoor plants. A jukebox sits next to the pile of barrels.
i love this build, and i wish that i had built things more like this when i was into survival gameplay!

Vault Hunters report, sorry for the wait.
I kinda forget where I was with this, so I’ll just cover the basics. I think last time I was starting to find my groove with running vaults and that theme has continued to the point where my survive/death ratio is way better (I think it’s a difference of about 20). I’m also getting clears more often which is really nice. Heck, prior to update 8 I actually managed to clear a Guardian Vault or two! And better yet, I’ve hit level 20 so now things get interesting.
Since update 8 I’ve gotten the new Elixir Vaults which are my new favorite Vault type; they’re an exclude to run a vault and get a free win if you can find the lodestones. Already cleared one and filled the bar within the first five minutes on more. Plus the fact that these are the main vault objective for the first bit, when I restart when the pack exists alpha the early game is gonna be so much better.
Final bit of news is that I’ve also gotten enough knowledge to unlock the Create mod and I somehow have enough Echo to go ahead and plan to get an Echo POG for the cart assembler so I can then build a proper mob farm, drilling machine, and more! Only thing stopping me with getting farms set up is that I want Pipes so that it all dumps into my storage system.

I updated the outside of my Spruce hill build!
I thought it needed a little extra something to connect it to the world around it, so i added a dock and a pathway up to the front of the house lined by light posts!

okay so:
the year is 2021. the month is june. the new season of hermitcraft, season 8, has just started, and everything is great! the hermits are all messing around, having fun, building insane things within the first week of the server being active, and generally having a good time. everyone's collected themselves into little factions, pranking each other, and it's all the fun, lighthearted, mostly-vanilla content hermitcraft is known for.
and then the split between minecraft versions 1.18 and 1.19 is announced. the delay of new terrain, and especially of new mobs like the warden, considerably disrupt several of the hermits' plans. but it's fine, they'll figure something out, they're professionals, and it mostly goes unnoticed.
about two weeks later, on november 9th, grian turns to mumbo jumbo in one of his episodes, and asks the famous question that would seal hermitcraft season 8's fate:
"mumbo, is the moon... big?"
suddenly, the fans panic. they search back through videos and streams, and realize that the moon had been abnormally large and stuck in a full-moon phase since october 30th. the Moon Big event has begun.
this is where the roleplay really starts. once the moon's size has been brought up, the hermits start a weird combination of scrambling to figure out why the moon's growing, and how to stop it- but also of ignoring it, hoping it won't be a problem, hoping someone else will deal with it. the moon keeps getting bigger, more hermits start realizing it's going on, and a creeping sense of dread starts to grow. but it's fine. it's fine, right? they do little plotlines like this all the time. they'll figure something out, the moon will go back to normal, and we'll laugh about it when this is all over. it's fine.
and then, blocks start flying away. just floating up out of the ground, and falling right back down! like for a moment, a square meter chunk of dirt has decided it's a ballerina and leaped out of the ground! but it's fine, right? the blocks are coming back. no lasting harm is done. they're going to fix it all... right?
the moon gets bigger. it's growing every day- local hermit weirdguy joe hills measures it every stream. the blocks start flying higher. gravity starts getting... weird, with players getting the slow falling effect at random, and being lifted off of the earth themselves. the players form cults and rituals and whatnot to try and appease the moon, convince it to leave them alone, making plans to escape. nothing works. things keep getting worse, and the moon keeps getting bigger. but it'll be fine. these storylines never leave lasting harm, or at least they never have before. they'll be fine.
and then the blocks stop coming back, just floating into the sky forever. the players have the slow falling effect more than they don't now. the moon is now so big it's visible even during the day, and fills the entire sky at night. they start planning their escapes in earnest, and say their goodbyes. some hermits jump into a void hole in the overworld (it was the centerpiece of their village). some flee to the End, some to the nether, some just fly with elytras and hope they can get far enough away in time. one brave hermit, tango, flies himself to the moon in a futile attempt to blow the whole thing up before it can crash.
Tumblr media
but in the end, the moon crashes into the server, and everything they'd built was destroyed. and the whole time, there'd been nothing any of them could've done. season eight was over, a full six months before anyone had expected it to end, and season nine wouldn't start until about three months later. and im still not okay about it.
(here's a cool animatic of the moon's crash! honestly i dont think you need too much hermitcraft knowledge to get the gist)
(also the moon crash happened on the day before my birthday lmao.)
….
holy shit

grungepo plays minecraft #2 - finishing the bunker (and more)
(a follow-up to this post, done while People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World by AJJ was playing on loop in the background)
So I've had a long weekend - had to move between buildings, and my first week at my summer job was hard to adjust to - but somehow I managed to finish most of the bunker base! There are a few decorative things I need to include and some pieces of the build that I don't have the materials to make yet, but I figured it was worth showing you guys pics of everything now ^_^
the bunker
from the outside, this is how it looks! I planted some jungle trees next to it for aesthetic purposes (and also to be a visual marker since they're so tall):
Tumblr media
there's a temporary wheat plot just offscreen (and yes, there are more buildings in the distance - we'll get to those later!)
the trapdoors lead to a pair of ladders that take you down into the bunker, and when you first get inside, you're greeted by this view:
Tumblr media
left of the entrance, we have a row of armor stands. they're all empty right now, but i'm planning to cover them in different armor sets as i upgrade the stuff I use throughout the game.
the back wall farthest on the left is one of the less-finished parts. the idea is that it's supposed to be the potion-making corner (the signs I have in place over there are marking where I'm going to put a brewing stand, cauldron, and netherwart) and I plan on replacing the smooth stone blocks with bookshelves on that wall. maybe also a chest under the floor for extra storage.
Tumblr media
also along the back wall, we have my bed and the place that will become the entrance to my nether portal room. the original Zaypixel video just had the portal next to the wall, but I can't do that for a couple of reasons: one, I messed up the size of the walls, so I'd need to dig out more space; and two, THE BUNKER IS ALMOST ENTIRELY MADE OF WOOD. there's no way in hell I'm making a nether portal in my house when a magma cube can come through the portal and burn my house down.
Tumblr media
the next few walls are going to be nothing but storage space. I don't have enough chests to completely fill the walls yet, but I know I'm going to add more as I play the game.
the middle of the bunker will be my enchanting space. I don't have the materials to make bookshevles right now, so I've put white terracotta in their place for the time being.
Tumblr media
and right across from the enchanting room, we have my furnace wall! Zaypixel's build has a row of blast furnaces instead of stone stairs under the smokers, and there's a smithing table in the place where there's a chest on the floor, but I'm not too worried about replacing those yet. the reason why there's smoke coming up from the loom is because there's a campfire hidden under it.
(and yes, the next big thing I'm going to work on is making the beach look nicer ^_^)
Tumblr media
but wait - there's more!
the other stuff
as I was building the bunker, I realized that there were LOTS of other things I had to do to make sure that this place was sustainable to build - namely, I needed to farm animals and I needed easy access to wood.
so I built some more things :)
for starters, I took the saplings that I had gotten from cutting down trees and I made a tree farm. so far it only has acacia, oak, and jungle trees, but I plan on expanding the farm & adding more kinds of wood as I explore and get more kinds of saplings. I also placed torches around the trees to make sure that there weren't any hostile mobs spawning & hiding in the farm.
Tumblr media
after that, I terraformed the open space to the left of the tree farm & bunker and I built a massive barn & horse stable. this wasn't any kind of tutorial; I saw Eret building a barn for their sheep on the Dream SMP a few weeks ago and decided to try building something similar based on memory and vibes alone. for something built by a noob, I think it looks nice ^_^
from left to right, we have sections for sheep, cows, and pigs, as well as a horse stable on the end. (the only animal I don't have here yet is pigs, because I don't have any plants to breed them with.)
the ladders lead to a hayloft on top. And yes, I did think of Mother Mother while I was building it.
Tumblr media
last but certainly not least, we have my chicken coop! I decided to get funky with it, so I built a slanted roof (for that, I used this post as a guide) and mixed jungle & oak wood to get the look I wanted. I also put a barrel underneath the door so that I can easily store eggs and seeds.
Tumblr media
so that's everything I've built so far! next step is to make permanent fields for plants, as well as fixing up the beach and making pathways between everything. once I've gotten all that & made some proper armor, I feel like I'll be ready to go mining and shit, lol.
okay that's all. grungepo out. ^_^
@allthesarcasm psst. you might want to see this since you were so interested in the last minecraft thing i did :)

reasons going to an ancient city is a great thing to do as soon as you have a little food upon starting a new minecraft world:
moving mobs around sucks, just go harvest wool and planks from the city to make a bed instead of messing around with sheep!
don't have to worry about being attacked by hostile mobs at all
can harvest materials for picks, very easy to go from iron -> diamonds due to all the exposed ores, way easier than strip mining
lava and water usually accessible if you want a nether portal
one million experience for breaking sculk !! plus silk touch + mending loot
free books for enchanting
if you run out of food u get glowberries (renewable) and even gapples
it's a little known fact that it's actually impossible to build anything in 1.18+ without swift sneak 3. you'll never go back you have to have it right now
start off with sick armor trims to decorate all those pants you'll be getting
oh, the warden? you mean my girlfriend? she's fine just know your exit vectors (long straight line you can navigate in the dark) and don't make noise, just sneak straight. you'll be fine
this isn't even a joke ive basically started 3 minecraft worlds this way. i have literally dug down to ancient cities because i don't want to look for a sheep. it's so good try it i promise

okay back to being a hater about the Wild Update
I think the reasons why we were disappointed not to get those little "extras" like the reeds and shelf fungi or literally any updates to other biomes have a lot to do with the fact that this would be such a logical and natural progression to improve Minecraft.
With adding content, there's a lot of freedom to do whatever, but the Wild Update was supposed to improve existing biomes, and a lot of biomes are in great need of improvement to "fit" with newer content.
And updating existing stuff should come before adding totally new stuff! It just makes sense!
1.18 provided the foundation to build upon by DRASTICALLY improving the terrain generation. It just...made perfect sense that 1.19 would be about filling and populating that terrain with stuff.
So I REALLY wanted them to give us
more plant diversity. Particularly cattails/reeds, but like...giant Rafflesia flowers in jungles. Thorny brambles in deserts. Pleeeease
more incorporation of "new" natural blocks into older biomes (are you telling me mud only exists in mangrove swamps?? No mud in rivers or ponds or regular swamps? Hello??)
Moss 100% needs to exist in mega taigas if nowhere else. In one of my (sadly now deleted) survival worlds I added moss everywhere to a mega taiga and it looks so lush and gorgeous next to the podzol and mossy cobblestone
I could go on and on: lichen needs to exist outside caves, moss carpets should be under big oak trees, mossy cobblestone and moss should like. Exist in the same places
In general we need some kind of fungi-related update. Make the mushroom island seem like an ecosystem. Put patches of mycelium in swamps.
give azalea trees their own wood
give azalea trees their own wood
GIVE AZALEA TREES THEIR OWN WOOD THIS MAKES ME SO ANGRY it's supposed to be a new tree but it has OAK WOOD??? A SCAM??
