Top 10 Anime Best Boy Winter Week 4
Two daddies slowly rise towards the top! Rei jumps forward to second place after an unexpectedly soft scene where he picks a sleeping Miri up, while Kazuki jumps up 5 spots to 4th for being the overprotective yet stern dad. Himuro also debuts in 5th place after weeks of unbridled love, admiration, and affection for his Fuyutsuki. Junta debuts in 6th place.

Anos just straight up defied the order of the world and said “no, you’re going to die, not me”, then turned Nousgalia into a damn fly. My Goat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ngl I still don’t understand all the lore and spiritual core stuff that they got going on in the show. Maybe I’m just not big brained enough. But I really appreciate that the author took the time to establish such a cool world and actually put a lot of thought into the concepts.
Tumblr media
Seems like everything came back to be useful at the end, like Anos sending Igareth into the future to spread rumours about Avos’ reincarnation as a pure spirit allowing Misa to live without Avos. I was confused at the time, but now it makes sense.
Tumblr media
This season finale actually felt like a proper movie ending with the peace summit and ending credits. Idk how realistic the “no hardship” policy that Anos wants will be, but we’ll see.
Tumblr media
Everyone’s been through so much and it’s good to see Misa, Reno and Shin just laughing and enjoying their time together. Shin still seems a bit stiff around Misa, but that’s pretty normal after just meeting your daughter. Hearing him vocalise how he loves Reno and how proud he is of Misa were massive steps for him.
Tumblr media
That post credits scene was wild. I wonder what type of villain could be coming next and why Anos’ memory got wiped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last few episodes of this season were so damn good, made the slower start and CGI tree worth it 😂

Can’t stop thinking about Anos stalking through the human academy looking for the friend he knew 2,000 years ago and having seven people going “I’m him!” And Anos KNOWING THAT NONE OF THEM ARE KANON. NONE OF THESE PEOPLE WHO CLAIM IT ARE AND HES BEEN SO EXCITED TO SEE HIS FRIEND AGAIN and he just. Can’t. Find. Him.

Anime I watched in 2022 Part 2:
11. Rising of the Shield Hero Part 2- 3/5
Where do I begin with this? It started off strong but by the 3rd or 4th episode I started to question if this was the same shield hero that I watched before. Don’t even get me started on how many times I watched Ost die only for her to come back to life. Thank goodness for the banger opening and ending. I briefly read the manga a while back so I knew that content was left out. After this season ended I reread and yup A LOT was left out. Hopefully the next season can redeem this show.
Tumblr media
12. Spy x Family 10,000/5
Ahhhhh I was so excited for this one. I read the manga so I knew the plot well and was a wee bit nervous when I saw Cloverworks was one of the studios doing the production (they basically cut 90% of Horimiya content) but much to my surprise they kept all of the original content, plus added some to really flesh out the show and it’s characters. This will be one of those shows that people will be talking about for years to come. The animation, the characters, the opening and ending were all spectacularly done. Anya deserves all the happiness in the world. Loid is the best fake dad and fake husband (all for the mission of course) and Yor is the new waifu, I don’t make the rules. God I really love these characters and seeing them animated so wonderfully brings a smile to my face.
Tumblr media
13. Ya Boy Kongming 5/5
This was a underrated gem for this year. I need to thank tik tok for showing me clips for this one otherwise I wouldn’t have know it existed. And that opening: A BANGER!! Seriously, if anyone skips the opening, they need to be arrested immediately! All the characters were so likable and you were cheering on the ‘rivals’. If you’re a fan of music, I highly recommend this anime.
Tumblr media
14. The Case Study of Vanitas 5,000/5
Ahhhhhh! Ok ok. I’m calm now. But seriously this anime has turned my brain into goop. I had serious Vanitas brain rot when I finished watching this one. From opening to ending this one hooked me. Alllll the characters were interesting, even the minor ones; you just wanted to know more about every one and everything. And I know, I KNOW Vanitas and Jeanne are endgame but whyyy is the chemistry between Vanitas and Noe sooooo good. Like holy guacamole their chemistry was off the charts (and that first ending didn’t help either) I can’t wait to know more about these characters and see what shenanigans they get up too.
Tumblr media
15. Misfit of the Demon King Academy 5/5
There’s just something about overpowered characters that gets me so hyped. Now don’t get me wrong, I like to follow the journey of a character from rock bottom and see them rise to the top. But sometimes you just want to see a Main Character just go nuts from the get go and that’s the main character from this series. “Did you really think killing me would stop me?” will never stop being epic. Like damn! This was such a refreshing anime and the ending I didn’t expect. Really can’t wait to see more of this universe.
Tumblr media
16. The Millionaire Detective: Balance Unlimited 4/5
Listen, there was so much hype around this anime that I went into it expecting a lot. Especially the chemistry between the two male leads but alas I was severely disappointed. While the story and other characters were good it just felt like something was missing. And I know everyone loves Kambe but I was more into Haru and I just wanted him to one up Kambe in some way (don’t ask me to go into detail because I can’t even explain it myself). Maybe I need to read the manga to get into this one.
Tumblr media
17. Love After World Domination 5/5
This was such a cute, dorky romance. If you were a Power Rangers fan as a kid, I think you’ll appreciate this one. It’s a nice spoof of that universe with the main characters trying to navigate their love life, school, being a hero and being a villain (is she really a villain though). I went into this one with absolutely no expectations but every week I was continuously surprised by this story. Really hope we get a second season to this.
Tumblr media
18. Skeleton Knight in Another World 5/5
I know a lot of people kept comparing this one to Overload but can I just say that I enjoyed this one wayyy more than Overload. Arc and Arianne are much more enjoyable characters to me and I just adored their chemistry. And Ponta was just the cutest addition to this series. This anime only has 12 episodes but it was enough to hook me in to that universe. I’m really hoping we get another season.
Tumblr media
19. Overlord Season 1 3/5
I really tried to like this one. Honestly I tried my best to like it but I couldn’t get past the first season. The characters felt bland and overdone for me. Maybe it’s because I watched so many isekai anime’s prior that this one didn’t wow me. Maybe if I’m bored I’ll give this another go.
Tumblr media
20. Komi Can’t Communicate Part 2 5/5
Ahhh cuteness overload. I really love Komi and seeing her progress slowly but surely is always a wonderful sight to behold. Chadano will forever be best boy. This season had so many laugh out loud and wtf moments that I really hope we get another season.

I remember watching maybe two-thirds of the first episode of Misfit of Demon King Academy back in 2020, deciding it was garbage, and moving on. It seemed like another dumb isekai-adjacent power-fantasy action/harem light novel adaptation.
The next month, Geoff Thew published a video about how MoDKA is a great action-comedy, a parody in the same vein as One Punch Man, if OPM tried to pretend it was an ordinary superhero comic. A month ago, seeing that MoDKA was getting a second season, I decided to give it a second chance...
...and it's amazing what a change of perspective can do. MoDKA isn't high art, but it's a lot of fun if you don't think you're supposed to take it seriously. I'd compare it to Looney Toons before One Punch Man, specifically the parts where Bugs Bunny pulls one over on Elmer Fudd or Daffy Duck or whatever jerk deserves to be shamed this week.
There are a few things that I think make it work, beyond the simple absurdity of what Anos does.
Anos isn't a show-offy prick. He doesn't mind showing off, but he doesn't go out of his way to do so and often lets others take center stage when they can handle it. Anos is unflappably confident, but he's not arrogant—certainly not when compared to most of the purebloods and heroes he clashes with.
The central conflicts of the show are ones that Anos being super-strong doesn't trivialize. Sure, he could beat up everyone who disagrees with him, but that's clearly not enough to make royal-blooded demons stop believing in Avos Delhevia or treat half-demons any better (or make humans). It's easy for Anos to pick up a castle, spin it like a basketball, and chuck it across the woods, but that alone doesn't accomplish anything.
Anos isn't the only guy who does cool stuff; the supporting characters get their moments to shine. Part of this comes down to Anos encouraging his comrades' growth, but a lot of it comes down to the fact that characters other than Anos are allowed to have cool stuff. His closest friends could even surpass Anos in their respective specialties, with a bit more training. Everyone gets a chance to shine, even Anos's dorky dad and the technically-not-nameless students in the Unitarian political movement/Anos fanclub. (It makes sense in context. And isn't as dumb as it sounds.) Some of the biggest things Anos does are just him supporting his friends.
The characters are surprisingly detailed. Not incredibly so, but it's obvious that the author put a lot of thought into why the secondary cast is the way they are. Sasha and Misha Necron are absolutely a tsundere and a kuudere, but their backstory does a pretty good job of explaining why they treat each other and the people around them the way they do, and they have character traits outside their archetypes. Hardly anyone has the depth of an average Wildbow tertiary character, but plenty have more depth than the average isekai hero, or even the not-harem member who everyone agrees would make a better protagonist.
The series has thematic ambition beyond just making Anos look cool. The main villains, aside from the enigmatic Avos Delhevia, are demon institutions prejudiced against half-breeds and the legacy of one long-dead human who spent his life making sure humans would never let go of his hatred for demonkind. "Racism is bad" isn't the most sophisticated message, and it's not delivered in the most sophisticated manner, but it's also not delivered in the most basic manner. It doesn't make racism a matter of a few bad eggs, but of worldviews that the powerful use to justify fucking with the weak—worldviews that don't go away just because they're demonstrably, empirically wrong. It has its flaws*, but it has fewer flaws than ~90% of stories that try to tackle this subject.
So yeah. It's not a masterpiece, but if you want a dumb fun show to watch, you could certainly do worse.
*Like how the main reason that humans hate demons is a spell one dude cast that projects his angry Alex Jones rants into every human's mind for two thousand years. This could be turned into something that works without much effort, and if someone said that plot point wasn't so blunt and braindead in the light novel, I would probably believe them.

I have been working on a fic for a while now and I kinda just want to scream about it. I watched the misfit or demon academy and all I could think of by the end was "I could make this gayer and sadder." Which for some reason I am actually doing.
The fic has murdered canon, which funny enough also is what happens to Kanon (bad joke I know).
I really wanna start posting snippets of it

Drinking game, take a shot every time “ni sen nen mae”/“2000 years ago” is mentioned
Another solid episode though. Pacing is nice enough that the return after 7 months hasn’t been too jarring. Lot of characterisation for Shin, Anos, Misha and Reno.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The igareth torture scene was hard to watch. I can understand the frustration from the demon side in terms of how their comrades were lured into a trap and killed, but taking it out on the innocent isn’t the way to go. Good thing Anos stepped in and stopped it.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reincarnating Igareth is also a cool mechanic, there may be a way to change the past for the better, thus leading to a better present. Especially since the goddess of creation is on Anos side.
Tumblr media
It’s cool that even with all the power he wields, Anos still cares about even the least of his fellow demons. The deaths of everyone who served under him and fought for a peaceful future still resonates with him.The visit to the graveyard and Misha’s white flower spell was beautiful. The best way to honour the fallen is to make a world where people are free to live as they wish.

Winter 2023 Top Anime Week 1
Welcome back everyone! It's our first chart of the Winter 2023 season! Vinland Saga Season 2 claims first gold right from the get go. It won Anime of the Year in 2020, so the question is can it repeat its former glory?
4 romance anime have claimed Top 10, and 4 anime in Top 10 are sequels. However, if our charts have proven to be anything, is that the first Top 10 tends to be DRASTICALLY different from the final Top 10. Who will ultimately claim the Top 4 for nominations? Tell us your guesses!
And of course, if you don't see your favorites on here, you'll need to vote!

MY TOP 6 ANIME OF WINTER 2023
Just my opinion. I was just in the mood to talk about it.
6. Buddy Daddies
It's SPY X FAMILY but with yaoi. Will wait until ep 3 before deciding to proceed or not. It ain't bad but ... eh.
5. Misfit of Demon King Academy S2
No logic or reason allowed. Just chaos. With Anos on top. Too many names, spells and fancy shit to remember. My mind will shut off when watching this.
4. Tokyo Revengers S2
I'm only here for the overall plot. And Mikey, Drakken, Akkun, and Chifuyu. Takemitchy ... not the best protag. Period.
3. BNHA S6 Second Cour
S5 fell apart so S6 can take off. So much destruction, so much loss, so much development. And they're not done yet! Keep hitting the mark!
2. Bungou Stray Dogs S4
I honestly thought S3 was it. Then came Wan. Now this. God to see these characters again and not as chibis, back in action, bring it on! And whatever crazy ass plot they got this time around.
1. Blue Lock
My favorite sports anime Free! is over. But filling that empty space it left behind is this. Visually stunning, appealing characters, intense action, all focused on soccer. I love the OP and EDs, the Additional Time shorts at the end of the episodes, the many seiyuus I love voicing these bois, and so much more.
