fritz finally gets to try his jacket on :>

Originally, curly antennae meant that Comet was flustered, but i... always draw curly antennae, out of habit. So instead they coil up!

also fritz would try to eat comet's face at least once now that his jaws have been given the size and flexibility to open that wide.

Random thing I keep forgetting about Fritz? His eyes are just little rectangles underneath the glasses that i constantly forget to make explicit that they're glasses.

Despite being in someone else's body, they're reminiscent of the eyes he used to have before the unsuccessful attempt at bringing back Yasmin (context in pics)

Despite having Lucas' soul, he has no memories of being Lucas, nor any memories before he was "resurrected."

But because of his new memories and new life, he acts nothing like Lucas. He's someone else now.

(quite a literal approach to the trans experience of "being in the wrong body," huh.)

Bonus: very shitty and indecipherable sketches of Comet's "new" vocal organs, a weird bundle of flesh pipes. I've put a lot of thought into how he'd sound, not much thought into how he'd make that sound. Even though once I made this post I realized a 4-sectioned syrinx does accomplish the deed of singing 4 notes at once just fine, So I accomplished.... like... nothing, doing this.

Though, I really need to figure out an organ for Bass. I always imagined he'd have a Whole Different Thing for that, but I never drew it. That and percussion, though I imagined his molars might be made a certain way so it'd make a noise when he snapped his jaws at something but. I'm not sure how. I know he has a speaker built in but he's a MUSIC man. I feel like it would be cool if he was able to make music off of pure Body Weirdness

Absolutely!!!!! It’s not done yet but it’s my baby so I’m always happy to share. I got this actual leather(!!!) jacket from Goodwill - it was priced at $15 and was half off, and I still can’t believe I got that much of a deal on a jacket in perfect condition. I’ve been using paint pens to decorate it, as well as adding chains across the back and skeleton beads I bought. I’ll share the most exciting upcoming addition at the end, but for now, base pictures:

Now, onto what I will be doing next:

Adding some little. Glass. Vials.

I knew I wanted vials of Zydrate on the back of my jacket, but I wasn’t sure how to get something blue that would stay liquid. My solution was genius, if I may say so. I bought some cheap little vials and used a syringe to fill them with a combination of mostly-clear vegetable oil and various-shades-of-blue eyeshadow that I mixed in a Little Glass Bowl. The resulting color isn’t as clear or as electric as I would like, but it is very sparkly and I appreciate that. The slightly different colors also swirl around in pretty ways, and when left unshaken for very long the eyeshadow settles and does leave it looking like clear blueish liquid. All it takes to re-mix it is a good shaking, and it’s as beautiful as ever.

I haven’t put them on my jacket yet since I haven’t glued the lids shut, but I’ll be hanging them from the chain on the back.

Hey quick anatomy question if you have time!! I know galra are mammals so it makes sense that kits are born without teeth or very small teeth so that they can nurse, without causing too much pain to their mothers but do galra lose baby teeth? Or do the teeth they first grow just grow stronger and larger and as their skills grow new teeth grow in the back? What do you think? Question inspired bc a saw one of those pics of toddlers/young kids skulls with the adult teeth growing above the baby teeth that hadn’t fallen out yet!

Thanks for answering questions like these I love the lore and learning about galra it’s so fun and interesting. I remember one of the shows creators saying theyd like to explore the blades of marmora more either through a book or separate series. But since the fandom was so batshit and hostile to the show creators I wouldn’t be surprised if they never want anything to do with this media again which is unfortunate. So most mammals are born toothless (due to their initial food source being their mother's milk) and will go forth to have two sets of teeth in their lifetime, the first being their baby—or deciduous—teeth as they wean, and their second their permanent adult teeth as they mature. The galra are no exception to this!

So yes, galra kitlings are born toothless and remain that way until they're weaned at around 10 imperial decaphobes—that's right, a full decade!—which, if you're in need of a refresher on galra lifespans, is the human equivalent of 2-3 years old. At this age kitlings begin teething, their first set of teeth making a rapid appearance until they have the full set of 20: twelve incisors, four canines, and four carnassials. These deciduous teeth last them far longer than the human equivalent, as galra children don't typically begin to lose them until early adolescence (~40idp) and their permanent replacements might not finish emerging until young adulthood (~70idp). Skeleton mishmashed from various toothed whales, a handful of birds, and treefrogs for the lower legs, with inspiration from pterosaurs and even sauropods (for the connective air tubes running down the tail).

Why include a pneumatic element on a partially-aquatic organism? I figure that, unlike what was portrayed in any of the game animations, renders, or accessory media (to my knowledge), these guys would probably need to at least be able to fan their flukes in and out for flight control. Personally, I interpreted a lot of the flight animations as having a flying style akin to hummingbirds. They usually keep their tails tucked in a straight line, but can widen them out into a short fan- or even a larger v-shape- to slow down or show off. Not entirely unlike a cetacean’s fluke! I just... wasn’t quite sure how to put together the bone/muscle combo to make it happen. So you know how some insects will, like, inflate parts of themselves, especially in order to get weird exoskeleton shapes before they harden? It’s sort of like that, or like the air sacs the sauropods in Prehistoric Planet had, but with more connective tissue in there so it’s not *just* a bubble. When not inflated, I imagine they kind of fold in on themselves. Maybe even crumple a little, you could say.

The mobility in the lips and ankles are mostly interpretations of artistic anthropomorphisms, more or less. To be fair, a lot of renders and artwork are presumably impossible- I don’t think you can make fingerless wings function as hands in something that would presumably possess an endoskeleton- but others show things like the bottom lip pursing a little bit, or have the feet posed in a way that would be a little easier to accomplish with a range of motion more akin to that seen in human wrists. To be fair, humans are the easiest organisms to model anatomy after because you can just look at yourself or a buddy, yeah? But I figured the legs, at least, would make sense as being more grabby in order to construct their nests. In-game it looks something like a weaverbird’s, just on the ground (or maybe something akin to a beaver’s if you squint). Without a proper beak, I can’t see these guys doing much “weaving”- I think more dexterous hindlimbs could help make up for that.

The teeth are definitely off-canon- mostly because I had already drawn them when I remembered they’re occasionally visible. The molars and overall composition were mainly inspired by fruit bats, as the species is partially frugivorous; however, they have been known to hunt fish as well. The front teeth were vaguely modeled after the hook-like needles found in the Ganges River Dolphin (with additional lip around them), which transition into a flatter set of porpoise-like teeth that are... vaguely convergent in shape with those of certain herbivores. Conveniently, a few porpoises were also referenced while I drew the skull, since they tend to be small and have less elongated faces.

The term “Dolphin-Bird” was taken from a... digital book, I think? Most people refer to the species as “finfins” or something of the like, which is fair, but I kind of imagine it as the specific name of the most well-researched member of the species, since the other two individuals present in-game are given different monikers (although I can also see it as being a sort of “bull/cow/calf” situation). Hence, this is what I derived the genus name from. The species name, on the other hand, references the species’ amphibious lifestyle and ability to fly; coinciding proficiency in flying, walking, and swimming isn’t entirely common in Earth animals (although not unheard of). I thought of naming it after the species’ home planet, Teo, but I wasn’t entirely certain how best to do it, and I imagine living on another planet isn’t entirely noteworthy when there’s an entire ecosystem to name as well.

Anyways, on to the cleaner uploads! In order: Body + wings lineart, body without wings lineart, and just the skeleton. It could probably be considered a slight redesign, but it’s mostly because I was trying to draw something with more realistic proportions and textures.

If you actually read through all of this you are so cool and swag <3 this is literally the first time ever I’ve tried to do something like this in earnest so you are allowed to think it sucks shit lmao

Last movie: had a rewatch of Boys on the Side (1995) a little after Christmas, and watched a decent chunk of The Lake (2022, Thai) last week with Dad. He's dyslexic so he watched with the dubs on, and I tried to lip-read and translate the words/simple phrases I knew, it was a lot of fun :D

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Can only enjoy the meekest of spicy thanks to my body betraying me (I miss spicy food so much omg), and can only tolerate blander sweets now (it's large conversation hearts season, only valid thing about January/February), so savory is my big main. On my good energy days I enjoy cooking and experimenting with flavors I know I can tolerate (did a subtle switchup with my usual seasonings for a crockpot beef roast last week and it was HEAVENLY)

OKAY! So when I was about 10/13 years old my mom took me to get a check up.. perfectly normal right? What could possibly go wrong.. oh yeah I was also there to get my shots.. I hate getting shots, always have always will.. it’s the syringe needles!! the fact that I know they have to be hollow enough for stuff to go in and out of the inside of those things is just wrong to me.. 😟 Anyway me and my Mom get there and everything SEEMS to be alright.. until the doctor comes back and says I have to get EVERY! I also had a panic attack & nearly fainted when I had to get my molars removed and the nurse showed up with the iv bag.. and I finally realized I was getting the syringe not the gas.. hadn’t panicked the whole time till that poor lady strolled in.. I think I scared her a lil when I started hyperventilating and asking my mom, wh-what what? What??? But it turned out okay!! That incident happened when I was about 18 I think..

BRUH i know what you mean with the hating needles thing! I have had nothing but bad experiences with them. Like when I was younger I'd have to get allergy shots every week so I already HATED shots bc of that but then one day this super old bitch gave me my shot and literally stuck me so hard that the needle scraped my fucking bone! My bicep hurt for a whole month I couldn't do anything!

And then this one time I was in middle school and I had to get my blood drawn for testing, and some info about me I have always had very thick skin, and the nurse tried to use a butterfly needle but when she tried putting it in the damn thing broke against my skin! Anyways, everyone panicked for a hot sec and now it's in my file somewhere that they have to use big needles on me now! LIKE THE FUCK!?!?🤬🤬🤬

But fr tho same with the covid thing. In order to get my second vaccine I had to be drugged before going, and I STILL had a panic attack the whole time, not cause of my fear of needles tho. I mean it was a little bit because of the needles but mainly because of the agoraphobia. I think that was really the first instance of me being unable to function alone in public. I had to have Ritz and her mom there to talk for me and fill out the paper work cause I couldn't. I was shaking, I couldn't communicate outside of nodding to Ritz, and I couldn't even look at anyone other than Ritz. There were a few times I almost passed out inside of the clinic waiting room. I'm pretty sure now that I think about it that that was the last time I was out in public at all and that was almost 2 years ago. Definitely was NOT a good motivator to make me do it again lol. Sorry this is low key embarrassing for me to talk about and I honestly spent 30 minutes just deleting this and rewriting it over and over again before deciding to keep it

btw these are the THIRD earrings i've made involving teeth. the two variations i did in high school were in clay with both molars and canines and in glass with just molars. i can't find a picture of the glass ones made into earrings but first pic is the teeth alone. i sculpted all those teeth myself but i didn't make those plastic crowns for the above earrings i bought those online

I don't know if that is what drew you to it as well or I'm accidentally insulting something profound, but I find your icon delightful because it always looks to me like a picture of someone standing on a giant molar, and it's kind of bizarre, but in a very fun way.

This is hilarious and in no way accidentally insulting. The photo is also not profound, either. It's a picture of my own feet! I have a tendency to take pictures of my feet standing in random places during my travels, and I think this is the first one I ever took on a rock beach on the South Coast of England next to the sheer chalk cliffs. I remember it was freezing and beautiful, and now I will delight in looking at my icon pic and thinking "TOOTH" forevermore.

I was referring to the gap in his teeth that you can see in the bottom gif. He had at least one implant to replace his missing molar. I think he either got veneers or had the rest capped. I'll defer to the dental experts on this one, haha. I'm not sure exactly what he had done, but you can see the difference in these pictures.
