I finally caught up to dndads after not having listened to it since June, so in order to not make a 1000 posts I will make one mega-post of all my reactions.
35 -> anthony made a reference to him being married b4, leading to me googling it, leading to me finding out there's a "at least im not anthony burch" 4chan meme
out of al the "new" epsidoes (for me) this one is still the funniest
FUCK, the goddamn convo between Normal and Hero you can't just do this to me. you can't just give me sibling dynamics and expect me to be normal about them.
36-> this ep was spoiled form me start to finish so no particular reactions but I will say Anthony is super clever for managing to spin that prophecy to come back around
37-> the contrast of the teens experiences this episode was astounding
Tumblr media
ONE PIECE MENTIONED! 👒🏴‍☠️
"you whirling dervish of homoeroticism and pizza" is SUCH a sentence.
38-> god this episode did so much for Scary I fucking love her. "she is holds so much anger but is one of the most loving people" what if my heart bursts from the weight of it all
39 -> in my notes I just have "RONNNNNN RONNN UR IN HEAVEN BABGGIRLLLL I LOVE YOHJHUU."
40-> Freddy's bully character. Will and Freddy's syncing on that joke and screaming about it. Will going "I'm a little turned on rn I'm not gonna lie." Anthony going "Roll for Kinsley scale." all of that almost put me in an early grave.
41-> Freddy making up dumbass plans and the getting way too excited trying to explain them leading to him being out of breath and yelling and making very little sense while everyone else is trying to cut in to tell him how dumb his plan is only for him to roll ridiculously high makes up 90% of this podcast nd I will never get tired of it. also this episode solidified that Taylor is the best character to me.
42-> I hate this.
43-> Marco is way too fucking chill beung on the Titanic I'm gonna need a bit more shock and confusion from this man. like this jist makes me think he like KNOWS everything already.
44-> the next two were my favorite episodes out of the bunch and I have a like lahes worht of notes on them and I couldn't pick my favorites so I'm gonna make seperate posts for the two of those. but in the meantime:
does the ambulance driver's accent count as slavic? cause if so first slavic dndads character lmfaoo
I feel so sad for Normal because we saw thus arc coming from a mile away. I remember listening to episodes and bejng fristrated with how other characters were responding to Normal cause I KNEW it was making this worse in his mind. and like I get them too they're all going trough heinous shit but like...fucking ouch man this was so preventable
45-> Terry Jr and Glenn competing for the title of "most polite swordfight singe Ingio and Westley in the Princess Bride"
I had seperate notes for how much I loved the charactarisation for Terry Jr, Nick, Taylor and Normal so to sum it up the cast brought their A-game I was so fucking delighted.
Freddy's habit of tling over NPC's is so fucking funny. COMPLETELY disregarding the DM is hilarious when it's not happening to me.
46-> good to see Mat being a menece for once.
somebody PLEASE fucking tell me there is fanart for Abe Lincoln from this episode PLEASE.
I know I'm a tween bow at heart because Lincoln being cool again made me so fucking hyped even though that's not the point of his charactarisation 😭 agent Schmegan just brings out the cool dude in him
Hermie's death was way less dramatic than I expected it to be but rhis is only because the amazing artists in this fandom shot my expectations through the roof with the stuff they drew
BONUS: WHODADIT -> Beth is fucking SHINING in this god every joke landed.
Anthony quickly going: "nochinamenmayfeatureinthestory" everyone else going "WOAH" and Mat going fucking "FREDDY?" as is Freddy needs to explain himself???? 😭😭 please

Linky & Jordie’s Paradise For Two
Tumblr media
Fanart belongs to JaviSuzumiya
The first day of summer vacation arrived just weeks after the Middle School year came to an end in Royal Woods. Lincoln offered Girl Jordan to join him on the beach together before the final day of school. For nearly half of the year since Christmas, they’ve done so much together, they’ve gotten closer to each other, to the point that Lincoln allowed Girl Jordan to be part of The Action News Team at school when Valentine’s Day came around.
At noon, Lynn Sr. took Lincoln, who’s in his swimsuit in Vanzilla while picking up Girl Jordan from her place who’s also in her swimsuit along with her phone. Upon arriving at the beach, Lynn Sr. parked by the side of the road which is where Lincoln requested. “You sure you don’t want me to park at the parking lot?” Lynn Sr. asked.
“Yes, I just want to pick the perfect spot.” Lincoln smiled.
“Okay, text me when you want to get picked up.”
As Lincoln and Girl Jordan got out of Vanzilla, Lynn Sr turned around and drove back home. The two kids stepped on the sand, witnessing the waves from the ocean and taking in the salty sea air. Even in June, the weather’s gotten hotter compared to last year’s. Lincoln and Girl Jordan not only brought snacks in their cooler, their beach towels, beach buckets and sunscreen, but also the turtle doves they got from Christmas. As they placed their beach towels on the sand, they sat down together. Girl Jordan squirted out some sunscreen and rubbed it on her arms.
“This is a great idea to kickstart our summer vacation.” Girl Jordan smiled. “Can’t wait to swim once we’re done putting on sunscreen.”
“Yeah, even if my family planned to go swimming again later this season, It’s not stopping me from taking you here.” Lincoln replied. “Although it’s strange, the beach is a lot quieter than usual.”
“Yeah, even families or groups normally stay at this spot. And yet you can still hear kids from the other side of the beach.”
Lincoln stood up for a moment to see both sides with no visitors in sight. It felt like a ghost town but only if it’s cloudy, foggy and of course a town. But a beach is usually nothing like a ghost town. “It looks like we have the beach all to ourselves.” He sat back down.
“Huh, who would’ve thought?” Girl Jordan handing Lincoln the sunscreen. “It feels like we own the beach.”
“Yeah, kind of.” As Lincoln squirted some sunscreen in his hand, he rubbed it on his arm. Upon looking at the waves again, he remembered the times he and his family went on the beach, there’s always tons of people around. The only way families or groups would get privacy by the ocean is on a private beach which Royal Woods doesn’t have. After a minute of putting the sunscreen on, Lincoln placed the sunscreen by the cooler. “So do you want to step into the water right away?”
“How about later? I’m still surprised we’re the only ones on the beach.” Girl Jordan turned to Lincoln. “Doesn’t it feel unusual?”
“Yeah. Like I wanted to have time off from my sisters, but this isn’t what I was expecting. Especially how I paid for a small pool for myself, only to feel bored for being alone, my fantasy didn’t play out as I wanted.”
Lincoln looked down while noticing how bored he was since he kicked his sisters out of the backyard. He didn’t imagine the way he wanted out of his fantasy when it came to life.
“Do you wanna know what my fantasy is like when it comes to swimming?” Girl Jordan asked.
“Yeah.”
“I wish I could breathe underwater to do more on the beach, but that would require gills.”
“You mean like jumping out of the ocean like a dolphin?”
“More than that.” She leaned towards Lincoln. “As a mermaid.” As she leaned back, she also blushed. “Then again, if mermaids exist, it would be a lot different.”
“Well, we can’t expect our visions to go as we hoped. But still, sometimes I wished the whole paradise for one would’ve been the peace I wanted.”
As the two remained seated on their towels, Girl Jordan also wanted peace, but knew it wasn’t enough. Even with no one around, she needed to feel the peace all around her and Lincoln. As she looks straight at the waves, the sounds of the ocean heal her sorrows, putting her in a state of peace that feels like bliss.
“Lincoln…” She spoke to his attention. “When you feel more comfortable…would you enjoy the beach more?”
“Like laying under the sun?” Lincoln wondered. “Because my sisters Lori and Leni-
“No, something else like…a couple close together with the girl hugging the boy from behind?”
Lincoln blushed from the idea, something he didn’t expect a dodgeball player to say. “What makes you think that?” He awkwardly smiled.
“I’ve seen it on TV where a girl hugged the boy on the beach…at night time when they’re alone. And since we’re alone…do you like the idea?”
Lincoln never had the privilege to allow a girl to hug him from behind. Even his sisters stopped doing that when they got older. “Kind of. But do you think it would work?”
Girl Jordan scooted over behind Lincoln. “It won’t hurt to give it a shot. Maybe later you could do the same to me.” As she slowly scooted closer, she wrapped her arms around Lincoln’s body. Lincoln blushed even harder with Girl Jordan right behind her. “Usually, a girl would lay her head on the boy’s shoulder.”
With the idea in mind, Girl Jordan laid her head on Lincoln’s shoulder with her eyes closed. Lincoln’s body shook with a girl hugging him from behind. If his sisters were here, they wouldn’t even give him the slightest bit of privacy. But then Girl Jordan placed her hand on his chest.
“Relax, you’re getting used to it. Your heart needs it.” She spoke in a sweet tone. Lincoln remained still while feeling Girl Jordan’s hand on his chest while listening to her breathing. Her breathing felt soft and natural as if she had a wholesome hum that no one at Royal Woods Middle School would hear. “Be happy and close your eyes…”
Lincoln slowly got into the moment as he smiled. “You’re right…” He closed his eyes, while Girl Jordan pushed her legs against Lincoln’s. Lincoln felt his back being protracted with Girl Jordan while listening to the waves of the ocean. The sound made him more relaxed as if this was the paradise for one he wanted all along. But in this case, it’s paradise for two.
“Lincoln…” She spoke with her eyes still closed.
“Yes…?” Lincoln replied.
“We should do this whenever we go to the beach alone…if we’re lucky.”
Lincoln laid his head on his other shoulder, giving Girl Jordan more space to lay on his shoulder. “I’m sure our families and others will respect our privacy.” Lincoln said in a quiet tone. “Let’s be in this moment for a little longer…”
“Okay…”
For the next twenty minutes, Lincoln and Girl Jordan savor the moment while still alone with no one around. As if they’re on an island in their imagination filled with waterfalls and mermaids. Mermaids that adore their time together without interrupting them. Girl Jordan finally opened her eyes, lifting her head off of Lincoln’s shoulder but he wasn’t phased as his eyes were still closed.
“Lincoln?” Girl Jordan leaned back from him. “Lincoln? Lincoln?” Without a response, he placed her hands on Lincoln’s arms, trying to wake him up.
“What?? What???” Lincoln opened his eyes while falling on his back while Girl Jordan got out of the way.
“You were sleeping before I let go of you.”
“I was?” He leaned up while Girl Jordan nodded. “Huh, I guess I was too into the moment.”
This caused Girl Jordan to giggle. “You know it’s cute that you will do this for me. It was exactly how it was from the show.”
“Beginner’s luck?” Lincoln blushed.
“More like a beginner's charm.” The two laughed at each other as they both got on their feet. “Anyway, I’m finally in the mood to swim now.” Girl Jordan stretched her arms.
“Yeah, definitely in the mood to swim now.” Lincoln also stretched his arms. The two walked together as they stepped on the water, causing Girl Jordan to shiver. Soon the water reached to their legs as they headed farther with the ocean up towards their chests.
“The water is just perfect.” Lincoln feeling the ocean.
“And beautiful with the current flowing towards us.” Girl Jordan smiled. “Do you like that?”
“I do, as long as it’s clean.”
“The beach water’s always clean.” She then looked in her surroundings and still no person or group in sight. “Though we’re still the only ones on the beach? I don’t even see a boat.”
“Yeah, we’re getting more privacy than I expected.” Lincoln turned around.
Just when he turned back to Girl Jordan, Girl Jordan splashed him with water, catching him by surprise. “I know we're still alone, I just want to get you off guard before getting splashed.”
“Yeah.” Lincoln wiping the water off his eyes. “Just like how you always hit me with a dodgeball in gym class, after the whistle was blown.”
“We were on opposite sides, what do you expect-”
Lincoln interrupted Girl Jordan by splashing her with water. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t do the same thing.” He grinned.
“You never do that!” Girl Jordan replied with her face and hair wet.
“Then splash back, dodgeball player.” Lincoln splashed again as Girl Jordan splashed back
They continued to splash each other for a few minutes as Girl Jordan laughed joyfully. Lincoln couldn’t stop splashing as he enjoyed his time with a girl who’s been enjoying herself since arriving. With both of them wet during the splashing, they didn’t even try to dive their heads into the water yet.
“Okay, that’s enough!” Girl Jordan slightly shouted as she and Lincoln stopped. “Can we do something else while we're still in the water?”
“Yeah, if only I brought along noodles for us.” Lincoln forgot. “Sorry, I was thinking about the snacks when I packed them.”
As Girl Jordan opened her eyes, she tried to think of another activity for her and Lincoln to do. “Since we can’t do cannonballs without jumping boards, do you think we should just swim together?”
Lincoln knew this would happen upon arriving at the beach but he didn’t think he got this far with a girl. “Okay but, do we just hold hands while swimming?”
“That’s what I thought, but do you have other suggestions?”
“Well…” Lincoln took his time to think of a way for him and her to swim together. Unfortunately, he had none, but he thought of something that could entertain Girl Jordan. “Instead of swimming, how about we make a cannonball by ourselves?”
“What do you mean?”
“I dive in, swim underneath you, I lift you up and while you’re on my shoulders, keeping our balance, you get on your feet on my shoulders and when I jump, you jump forward and make a cannonball!”
After explaining, Girl Jordan is stunned in place, and couldn't believe everything she heard. “Can you repeat all that?”
“I didn’t stutter.”
“Lincoln, I don’t think that’s possible.”
“You’re somewhat athletic and I can still carry you.”
“That’s the type of stuff swimmers do in gymnastics.”
“It wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.”
Girl Jordan didn’t forget what he said, but at the same time, she hadn’t come up with the idea. She wasn’t ashamed to not do a cannonball on the beach, but she had little to think when it came to swimming. As if just being in the water and splashing was everything for Lincoln.
“I’ll promise you won’t get hurt.”
“You’re sure?”
“I’m sure.”
Girl Jordan believed in Lincoln’s trust as she nodded. “Okay.” She turned around. “Let’s do this.” Lincoln held his breath as he dived into the water. He went underneath Girl Jordan’s legs as he lifted her up from the water. “Careful.”
“I’m holding on to your legs, we just need to keep our balance.” As Lincoln stood in place, Girl Jordan got onto his shoulders. “Okay you jump on the count of three.”
“No problem.” Girl Jordan nervously said.
Lincoln lowered himself down while Girl Jordan kept her balance to not fall off. She went into position, leaning down a little as Lincoln began the count. “One, two, three!” Lincoln jumped while Girl Jordan jumped off, moving forward while doing a cannonball. She splashed into the water as Lincoln watched the whole thing.
“You did great, Girl Jordan.” He smiled. “Now we can do cannonballs whenever we want on the beach!” Little did he know, Girl Jordan didn’t pop out of the water upon splashing. “Girl Jordan?” Lincoln looked around as if Girl Jordan swam away. But then he got launched from the water with Girl Jordan holding on to his legs.
“That was awesome!” Girl Jordan cheered.
“Girl Jordan!?” Lincoln nearly lost his balance.
“Come on, do a cannonball, I’ll do what you just did.”
“How did you-?”
“Do a cannonball!” Without any hesitation, Lincoln positioned himself just like Girl Jordan did, as Girl Jordan lowered herself, she began the count. “One, two, three!”
As Girl Jordan jumped, Lincoln jumped off and did a cannonball himself. Girl Jordan watched the moment Lincoln splashed into the water, the same way she did without a single difference. As Lincoln popped his head from the water, Girl Jordan swim towards him and as he turned around after getting the water out of his eyelids, Girl Jordan gave him a hug
“That was a great idea Lincoln!” She smiled. “You have no idea how many times we can do this.”
“Did you swim after you made a cannonball?” Lincoln replied.
“Yeah, I got excited when I was swimming, I wanted to surprise you.” After she let go of him, she shook herself to get the water out of her hair. Upon stopping, Lincoln’s eyes shot wide open from Girl Jordan’s beauty. Her wet hair made her gorgeous even as a pre-teen. If she was a mermaid, it would suit her perfectly in Lincoln’s eyes.
“I think you already surprised me.” Lincoln blushed as Girl Jordan giggled.
“I guess you should’ve stayed at my pool party but…Liam told me everything.”
“Well thank you for making me rethink my choices, despite what me and my friends went through…and embarrassed at the same time.” Lincoln scratched on his wet head.
“You're cute when you're embarrassed, it makes me want to hang out with you even more.”
Lincoln became more shy as Girl Jordan splashed him with water. As he splashed her back, they continued to enjoy each other. They got out of the water to make some sandcastles together on the beach. For the next few hours, they finished their sandcastles, ate the snacks Lincoln brought along, and went back in the water to do cannonballs again. They also ran on the beach while taking their turtle doves with them, still having the beach to themselves as they can do whatever they want.
After a few hours, the sun started to set over the ocean with the sky turning orange. Thanks to the reflection from the sun, the ocean turning orange made it gorgeous to swim in. Lincoln and Girl Jordan swam for the fourth time today, but they did less cannonballs after doing it fifteen times previously. They’ve gotten so tired, they only did it once for their turn. They spend the majority swimming together with less splashing, as they’ve gotten closer. Lincoln had felt more happy to see the joy in Girl Jordan, while Girl Jordan had the best beach day ever. When they got out of the water for the last time, they dried their hair and bodies with their beach towels.
“Ahhh…” Girl Jordan moaned in delight, while laying down on the sand. “This really feels like paradise.”
“Paradise for two?” Lincoln replied, also laying down.
“Definitely.”
They didn’t move a muscle as they relaxed under the sun. They’ve lost their energy in their bodies, even when they drank their beverages from the cooler. The only thing they could do is rest, even with the hot temperatures.
“Lincoln.” Girl Jordan spoked. “I think we’ve just picked not only the perfect spot on the beach, but the perfect time to have it to ourselves.”
“You’re right.” Lincoln smiled. “I guess other people have other summer activities than simply going to the beach.”
“If we went to Dairyland today and to the beach tomorrow, I bet there would’ve been hundreds of people here.”
“I bet the only good thing that would come out of that is playing beach volleyball.”
“We would still play volleyball together…if a beach net is set up.”
“And if I bought a beach ball.”
The two giggled, relaxing while listening to the waves from the ocean. “Lincoln, even if your family were here, especially your sisters, I still think they would’ve had fun with us.”
“As much as I agree, you also forgot how…obsessed they are with the idea of me hanging out with a girl.”
“I know what you mean, especially that you have ten sisters. It took months for me to meet them when the time was right, but Lola still couldn’t get over it.”
“You know, as much as I appreciate my sisters at times, I’m thankful it was others who guided me to do my own thing.”
“You mean what you went through during Christmas Eve?”
“It wasn’t complicated. If my sisters did all of that, I probably wouldn’t have kissed you the right way, not that my sisters would do any worse, but I don’t know how they would handle their boyfriends. Or in Luna’s case, girlfriend.”
Girl Jordan took time of her own to learn Lincoln a little bit from him since Christmas Eve. Even at school, she knew he was becoming more kinder than usual, with him allowing her to sit next to him and his friends during lunch break, giving her interviews with her friends in the Action News Team since she started taking part in it, and how he convince Coach Keck to be part on the same team in dodgeball. And yet it didn’t top what she wanted on the night Lincoln gave her Christmas present.
“Do you wish you wanted the kiss to be better?” She replied.
“It wasn’t my first kiss actually.”
“Who was the girl you kissed first?”
“Ronnie Anne, and a second time but let’s just say we want to forget about that more than the first.”
It gave Girl Jordan another thought in mind, since her friendship with Ronnie Anne was cut short since she moved away. “With your second kiss with her, was it around the time she bullied you?”
“Yes, but I didn’t know about her until we took care of an egg for our project.”
“You know, I may not be a bully like who she was, but I admit I’m not the nicest girl in Royal Woods.”
“So do I but…sometimes it’s hard to blame yourself when you can’t do everything right.” As Lincoln looked straight up at the sky with flow clouds coming by, he took a deep breath and let it out. “Having regrets is important…but when you’re in a position you can’t take control of, guilt isn’t always the answer to everything.”
Girl Jordan knew what she feels when guilt comes to her, but Lincoln went through so much compared to her. Even when she sees him happy, it still doesn't make him feel good at the same time.
“Do your sisters make you feel bad sometimes?”
“Yes, even I can’t deny that. But I also can’t deny the many good things they did for me. It’s just the bad they did went way too far to try and make up with the good.”
While looking up at the sky, Lincoln couldn’t consider relying on his sisters a lot like he used to. To the point the bond between them and himself isn’t as important to him as it was, even if he wouldn’t sacrifice any good they have in the present. Girl Jordan would tell if she became one of Lincoln’s sisters, she would’ve ended up like them, even as a different sister entirely. But in the life she’s in, it’s best for her to be in a smaller family then Lincoln’s. And yet, she wants Lincoln to feel good around her, knowing how she kissed him back.
“Lincoln.” She spoke to the loud boy’s attention. “Since we’re still here on the beach, do you think it’s your comfort place?”
“After a few long hours, it does seem that way.” Lincoln responded. “We may be late to dinner, but it’s worth it.”
This gave Girl Jordan the advantage, the same way he did back on Christmas Eve. Lincoln slightly closed his eyes, tired with the sun setting still in his sight, then just a second, a shadow got in his sight. Upon opening his eyes, he saw Girl Jordan on top of him, with a sweet smile on her face.
“Girl Jordan?” He blushed.
“Hehehe, relax, we're still in our comfort place right?” She lidded her eyes. “As long as we’re alone, it’s paradise for two.” She then pressed her lips against Lincoln’s, catching him off guard. Unlike the kiss he and Ronnie Anne had, he wasn’t prepared with Girl Jordan taking full control. His heart was pounding, that a girl was kissing him rather than him kissing her. But soon, he closed his eyes whilst savoring the moment by placing his hand on her face. As they continued for five more seconds, Girl Jordan broke the kiss as she saw Lincoln smile with satisfaction. With his lungs regaining oxygen, he’s more relaxed that his beach day with Girl Jordan is complete.
“Paradise for two is better than Paradise for one.”
“Perfect answer.” Girl Jordan got off of him while sitting down, looking straight at the ocean. “I still want to stay for a little longer if it’s okay with you. We may miss dinner but you're right, it’s totally worth it.”
Lincoln lifted himself up from the ground, while scooting behind Girl Jordan as he wrapped his arms around her, taking her by surprise. “Then let’s savor it more. It will be a great summer vacation for us.” As he got into the same position Girl Jordan was when she did it, he breathed calmly while getting into the moment like before, only this time, he’s giving Girl Jordan the relaxing sensation.
Girl Jordan soon smiled as she gave into the moment with Lincoln. She tilted her head as Lincoln laid on her shoulder with their heads touching each other. Then Girl Jordan took Lincoln’s hand and placed it on her chest just like he did to him. His palm connecting to her heart put him in more of a comfort state that he’ll treasure as long as he’s with Girl Jordan.
“I really like being with you, Lincoln.” Girl Jordan closed her eyes.
“So do I…” Lincoln replied, slowly drifting into a slumber again.
Three hours have passed with the moon up in the sky with stars. Lincoln and Girl Jordan got so tired, they fell asleep after they got out of position together. With them laying together, they couldn’t separate from each other, whilst also not laying in an uncomfortable position. Even when the temperature gets colder at night, they don't think about it due to their deep slumber, they are warm enough to handle it.
Back on the road, Lynn Sr. drove Vanzilla after Rita got a call from Girl Jordan’s mother about her daughter missing dinner. “You sure he didn’t text you back?” Rita crossed her arms.
“He last texted me eight hours ago, I was focusing on making dinner.” Lynn Sr. replied.
“Do you even know where they are?”
“Lincoln told me he wanted to pick the perfect spot so that’s why I didn’t go to the parking lot to drop them off.”
“I knew it’s wasn’t a good idea to leave them alone on the beach.”
When Lynn Sr. soon remembered the road itself, he parked Vanzilla on the side. “I think this is where I dropped him off.” As the two got out, they headed straight to the beach while looking in their surroundings.
“There’s no one here.” Rita retorted. “It’s late to search for them.”
“Then you go down on the beach while I go up so we can find them double time.”
“Wait.” Rita looked closely down the beach. “I think I see them down there. Let’s go.”
As Rita and Lynn Sr. headed down the beach, they saw Lincoln and Girl Jordan still laying down on their beach towels. Upon looking straight up after running on the beach, they witness the two kids sleeping together. Just when Rita and Lynn Sr. were about to put their foot down, they were touched just how adorable they were at the moment.
“Maybe Lincoln had more of a reason why he didn’t text us back.” Rita wrapped her fingers with a smile on her face. “They’re like angels, sleeping together on the beach.”
“Do you think Girl Jordan’s mother will approve of this?” Lynn Sr. added.
“After inviting us for family dinner, she approved the things Lincoln did since Christmas. She’ll be willing to approve this.” As Lynn Sr. looked straight at the two sleeping together, he also remembered the stuff Lincoln brought along. “I’ll get Vanzilla so we can carry all of Lincoln’s stuff.”
Lynn Sr headed back to Vanzilla as Rita was touched by the moment itself. As she took out her phone, she took a picture of Lincoln and Girl Jordan sleeping together. Then suddenly, Lincoln and Girl Jordan woke up as Rita immediately put her phone away.
“Uhh…what time is it?” Lincoln slowly got up until he noticed his mother.
“8PM.” Rita responded.
“Mom?”
“You forgot to text Dad to pick you up.”
“Ohh, I forgot to text Mom!” Girl Jordan took notice while picking up her phone. “I almost forgot I had this!”
“Don’t worry, at least nothing bad happened. But the next time you two are going to the beach, me and the family are coming along.”
Lincoln and Girl Jordan lowered their heads after the mistake they made. “Well, it was fun while it lasted.” Lincoln replied.
“We had the beach to ourselves.” Girl Jordan added.
“Ohh…what did you two do here then?”
“We did cannonballs in the water. It was a bit confusing to do it, but we managed it quite well.”
“Is that what you two did all day?”
“We rest also.” Lincoln smiled.
After Lynn Sr. turned around, he parked where Rita is located. “I’m here, pick up your things Lincoln.” He called.
Upon taking notice, Rita turned his attention back to Lincoln. “Just make sure you remember to text us.”
“Okay, sorry.”
After Lincoln and Girl Jordan took everything from their beach spot, they and Rita headed inside Vanzilla. Lynn. Sr drove back on the road to head back home. With Lincoln and Girl Jordan sitting together, they didn’t forget about their turtle doves. Girl Jordan laid her head on Lincoln’s arm after the day she had with him. Even if they will never have their time alone on the beach again, they’re happy they got their chance when it lasted. It will always be their paradise for two, with a kiss that is sealed in their memories.

Bury Your Gays: Villanelle vs Lexa
I've now been checking out all of the Killing Eve finale reactions on YouTube and here on Tumblr. And there was one thing that kept popping up that just made me kind of go 'hmm'...
Fyi, this is just my personal opinion. If you don't like or you think it's going to upset you, please do not read.
Tumblr media
Lexa was definitely a Bury Your Gays. Her death did not make sense within the story or for her character. While there were obvious reasons for the character to be written out due to circumstances going on bts, the way they wrote her out was terrible. She didn't need to die, and even if she did for " story reasons" (she didn't), it shouldn't have been done the way that it was. It should have been handled a lot better. Lexa was a Grounder, a warrior, and for her to die by a wayward gunshot meant for Clarke by one of her own lackeys -- that was just stupid. (and as we see, the caliber of writing only got worse from there) There were many other ways for that character to die that was worthy of her character and her story line, to the massive impact she had on Clarke's story and this alliance/interaction with the Sky People and the Grounders (alongside the story lines of Octavia, Lincoln, and Indra) that ends up heavily influencing and impacting the rest of the story of the series. They killed her that way because JRoth has a massive ego and is an idiot the writing got lazy and they thought it would be a shocking twist that 'oooo no one would see coming'. Yeah, no one saw it coming because it was stupid and made no sense, but I digress.
Moving on.
Tumblr media
I don't think Villanelle was a Bury Your Gays and certainly not similar to what happened to Lexa. Villanelle's death (whether you agree with it or not) made sense within the story, for her character. While I don't necessarily agree with the show going the death route, those who have watched since season 1 I think always kind of knew that there was a possibility of Villanelle dying before the show was over, Eve dying, or both. Villanelle was an assassin and the organization she had been a part of was just eradicated. First Helene, then Konstantin, then the Twelve. It didn't surprise me that the last remnant of that organization was the last to go. (some may claim Pam was a part of the Twelve, too, but the show purposely chose her to end Konstantin and to turn down the job Carolyn offered her and walk away)
I guess my point is that ending was viable within Killing Eve's story line, within Villanelle's trajectory as a character, while Lexa's was not. That's the difference.
I admit, I was reluctant to check out any articles on the response to the finale at first, especially seeing Tumblr posts about Laura Neal's comments (yeah, sometimes I wonder if these showrunners are drinking the same water as the rest of us), but I'm so glad I read this one where Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer also chime in. (they're the two I care about tbh) I really agreed with their takes on their characters' endings and I respect the hell out of them.
I will say, I'm so glad they didn't have Eve dying and Villanelle surviving because that to me would not have made sense. Realistic if they both took on the Twelve, but definitely more tragic, and would have made me wonder what the whole point of Eve's story was. To me, this end result makes way more sense.
Do I wish showverse!Villaneve got an HEA? Absolutely. But I also really like everything we were given and that nothing was wrapped up in a neat little bow. But I also like that not everything was left open-ended (other than Eve's question of moving on in her life). To me, that was the right semblance of tragedy that made sense with the show. But that's just my personal opinion.
I'm sorry for people who are hurting. I really am. I mean, GoT, SPN, The 100, Lexa, Dean...trust me, I get it. My heart goes out to you all and I just know the fans are going to create some amazing masterpieces of fanfiction and fanart and fan videos while also some are now going to read the books (not giving away any spoilers but they are not the same, I will just say that). And I hope that all of that can ease some of the pain. <3

5, 6, and 18 for the TV-shows ask, please and thank you! ♥
Hey, thanks for your ask!😘
5) Favourite ship you discovered this year.
Oh, gosh, the only new ship I can think of this year would probably be Kristen x David from Evil. I’m sure there’s more, but that’s the only one coming to mind right now. Well, unless you count Lincoln Clay x John Donovan, a ship from Mafia 3, a video game I’ve never even played, but which I now ship solely due to the wonderful writing of @imwritesometimes !
I guess there’s also Dani x Malcolm and Gil x Jessica from Prodigal Son, but while I do ship them, it’s in a fairly minor way compared to my main ships. (I should say I’ve only seen season 1 of both Evil and Prodigal Son. I have season 2 of both shows recorded but haven’t got around to watching them yet.)
I finally watched The Terror this year too and I loved the Bridglar (John Bridgens x Harry Peglar) relationship, but they weren’t ‘new’ to me, in that I was already aware of the ship and had enjoyed fanart and fanfic of it before I even watched the show. Then there’s Fitzier/Fitzcrozier (Francis Crozier and James Fitzjames) from the same show. I’m not sure if I actually ship them romantically or not, but I certainly came to love their relationship. It grew from a place of contempt and disdain to one of complete devotion and was really affecting by the end.
6) Favourite platonic relationship you discovered this year.
I do love me a pseudo father/son relationship (Bobby/Buck, Morse/Thursday, etc) so I loved the bond between Malcolm Bright and Gil Arroyo in Prodigal Son.
18) Favourite new character you met this year.
Ooh, well, I loved most of the characters in Prodigal Son! Gil, Edrisa, Malcolm, Jessica and even Martin were all great. J.T. was a real favourite, though. Also, Francis Crozier and Thomas Blanky from The Terror.
Thanks again for your ask.❤️

Twice in a lifetime
linctavia (+ background bellarke) | S7 finale fix-it | sappy af | oneshot
prompted for @t100fic-for-blm by @1munequita
Octavia searches the sea of faces for her brother, her mom, fallen friends...and then she freezes. He’s standing off to the side, stoic as ever. And an unexplainable emotion she hasn’t felt in over a hundred years crashes into her chest. Lincoln.
Levitt turns back to say something and follows her gaze. When he realizes who she’s looking at, he releases her hand. “Go.”
***
A S7 finale fix-it where a slightly different group ends up on the beach in that finale scene. Focuses on Linctavia, but there is background Bellarke in there because I cannot help myself.
Read it on ao3!
Reminder that we are taking prompts through the end of April! If you’ve ever wanted a fic or fanart created for your favorite t100 characters, you can make a donation of any size (including non-financial contribution options) to a BLM-supporting organization of your choice and one of our writers or creators will fill your prompt.
Help us hit our final goal of $9,000 by the end of the month. Learn more about how to submit a prompt on our carrd.

What other minor and/or major fandoms are you in? (Or what other shows/series do you keep track of?)
This might be boring to read because there are people who are up to date with manga/anime/tv shows/movies while I’m the opposite xD I’m the type of person who sticks with something they love to the point of obsession for a very long time.
Other than the Naruto one, the last fandom I joined was the MetaMoro fandom (italian singers and beautiful couple), last year. I never shipped real people in my whole life cause I don’t care about real people enough, and cause found it kinda creepy (btw I bet tumblr police has something to say about this as well) but things happen and you can’t control what you like (hi again tumblr morality police), besides, there is no fanservice in Italy for this kind of things, it’s not like idols or kpop bands or US celebrities, so..I didn’t even want to be active in the fandom tbh, but I just happened to write some comments in my tags and then I received asks and suddenly people were interested in my opinion, then in my ideas so they suggested prompts and before I knew it I was posting angsty darkfics lol ( so this is the fandom that steals my time from naruto fic writing)
I’m not in other fandoms, these 2 take too much time already, and most of the anime/shows I like are either quite old or over since a while. I don’t know most of the shows people talk about, and when I stumble on their gifs/images I just don’t feel interested.
I am a Game of Thrones fan, I sometimes wrote a few comments on episodes and with my personal blog I follow GoT blogs with gifs and edits, but I don’t read fics and I never read fan theories though.
Before Naruto my favourite manga/anime were Gensoumaden Saiyuki (I wasn’t into it anymore but they published the Gaiden prequel volumes in my country and I almost cried reading the end for how beautiful and sad it was) and most of it all Bleach…I loved it so much, I read fics, searched for doujinshi and fanarts, saved screenshots. It was in my heart for years, and it still is even though I didn’t follow it that much, so when it ended I wasn’t as angry as for Naruto, for example. But I periodically think (more like obsess) about it again, when I stumble on stuff online. And I do periodically think, more like, replay, the scenarios I would think about, my ‘bedtime stories’ lol, as back then I didn’t even consider writing a fic.
I recently read the Psycho Pass manga for the first time, as I had watched the anime already. Then I rewatched the anime and I liked it even more than the first time, so much that I obsessively sought fanarts and fics, too bad that my fave ship is popular only in the reverse top/bottom dynamic compared to the one I like
I’m deeply into Noragami which is the latest manga I’ve been reading, I want to watch the anime but I haven’t yet. Also I haven’t looked for fanarts/fics, even though I really love Yato, and I am very intrigued by the angsty parts like when he cried getting to know his shinki’s past, or when he’s stung and blighted when his shinki has bad thoughts &co. Or the way his father manipulated him, or when he was bitten by Hiyori gone ayakashi…This kind of things is my kind of things, so I’m all in for the dark side of it, but I’m afraid I’m a minority so I don’t even bother looking for stuff. (maybe this was better in the other ask about crack ships lol)
Also because I often drop shows/anime when I disagree with the plot, and especially with tv series this happens a lot cause they keep them going on and on season after season and annoying shit happens, like, I was a fan of The 100 (and I shipped Claire/Lexa and Lincoln/Octavia) but after Lexa died and there was the season finale/cliffhanger for the next one I stopped watching cause I disliked it. Or Vikings but same, I didn’t like it anymore after the first series, it’s like certain stories go out of hand and become ‘too big’ and I can’t put up with that kind of absurdity. And I have an open mind, my favourite stories are those that question reality, so my concept of absurdity is related to unbelievable because it’s badly written imo. Same for Mr Robot, I watched it all but I didn’t like certain things and I’m afraid I’m gonna hate the next season. Or Sense 8, but that was canceled and I even managed to quit it before the forced ending lol. I’m a huge fan of Star Trek The Next Generation and BattleStar Galactica, I bingewatched the latter on a summer, like when I bingewatched LOST with my ex, who was addicted on series more than I. He was an ass*ole but he made me watch good stuff lol. Like cute Pushing Daisies. Older series are more interesting imo. It’s like the popular ones are like videogames, each season with a bigger ‘aim’, while others are canceled without even trying to continue and see if people get to like them. Some stories grow on people more slowly, but they don’t get it. The latest show I tried to watch was American Gods, its concept seemed interesting and I like the many different cultures and mythologies it refers to, but I found certain things disturbing/triggering so I stopped.
I also liked Death Note but for the story more than the characters. I was reading Tomodachi Game cause it’s quite similar for certain things but I have to catch up. Oh and I never finished Nabari No Ou, even though I liked it. Why didn’t I finish? I forgot. Same for Gintama. Like pretty much anyone else I read manga with an app and I watch anime/shows on my laptop and I decided to read more paper books instead, and use devices less, so I follow my favourite musicians/bands, and ofc my 2 fandoms and mostly I write my fics. Or, well, I try to.

Welcome to Mythical Secret Santa 2018!
Who’s ready to end this year with some festive cheer, beast style?
Tumblr media
Yep, that’s right: we’re back and better than ever before! (Or at least we like to think so, heh.) We had such a blast last year sharing the love and all of the friendship, as well as enjoying the absolute smorgasbord of brilliant creativity from you guys!
It was just the perfect way to send the year off - so let's do it all over again with this one, shall we?
If you’re new around these parts, Mythical Secret Santa is where members of our fandom swap gifts of their own making. These gifts can be a good old fic, some gorgeous fanart, a moving or hilarious video edit - we open this ‘challenge’ of sorts up to any and all works of creativity. The idea is to not only come together as an online community, but to also provide the whole fandom with some entertainment while Good Mythical Morning (and Rhett and Link) is on break over the holidays.
That all said, this year's Secret Santa is going to run a little differently than the last. Buckle in, folks - this one’s a bit of a read, an important but lengthyish read.
Last year, we had participants fill out a ‘gift tag’ where they would tell us what they wanted out of their gifts. Then we (Ren and Sims) swapped names around until everyone ended up a Santa for an unknowing giftee. (Even our own Santas were kept secret from us!) It was mostly a success... except, due to a few unannounced dropouts, a couple of people ended up without their gift. Which absolutely sucked, for them and for us, too.
So. We’ve done some thinkin’, Lincoln, and we think we’ve come up with a working solution. Before you worry, don’t! We’ll still be swapping gift tags, so personalised gifts are 100% still going to happen.
But we’re also introducing a whole new way to participate: we’re calling it ‘the Fandom Wishlist’.
Here’s how it works:
There will be a Google form to apply to join in - to be posted shortly. This is how we’ll be taking down participation this year, e.g. your name/username, likes, dislikes. But…
There will also be a question at the beginning of the form asking what tropes, scenarios, AUs, etc., you would like to see more of in our fandom. This question can be answered by anyone, even those who aren’t participating. This is so that...
Anyone who does want to participate but also thinks they may not be able to finish a personalised gift in time or that they may need to pull out of the challenge at any point for whatever reason can opt to work from the Fandom Wishlist, which will essentially be a list of prompts as suggested by other Mythical Beasts.
This way, there’s less pressure to deliver, we (hopefully) avoid the problem of missing gifts, and we all still get to enjoy something we want to see!
Now the super important stuff: you’ll only have ONE WEEK (AKA until GMM time next Friday, 23 November) to fill out the form and let us know you'll be taking part. We’ll then swap the names around over the following weekend, ready for you to get working by the time Monday’s GMM rolls around. The final due date of the gifts will, like last year, be before Christmas so everyone can enjoy their gifts on the big day. Specific due dates can already be found in our blog description.
YOU CAN SIGN UP BY CLICKING HERE.
Also, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback! We appreciate any and all input - this is your Secret Santa after all. (We have an FAQ as well, so check there first to see if we’ve already answered your question!)
Okay, information overload over. So go on - reblog, tell your friends, tell everyone that we’re back and to get their creative caps on and ready!
Not long to go before it’s time to get started...
— Ren and Sims

If you are still taking fandom year in review asks... 11, 13, 18, 22, 25. (Sorry if that's too many. You can pick which ones you want to answer from them. LOL)
11. Biggest squee moments of the year
Chrisjen Avasarala’s “Because I’m the fucking hero that helped save Mother Earth” speech.
The Expanse episodes from 2x09 - 3x06 – Bobbie and Chrisjen having adventures!  Naomi on Ganymede!  Drummer doing sit ups while hanging from the ceiling and the way Cara Gee delivers “you wanna turn it into a weapon, Freddie?”  Prax and Mei!
Drummer’s “We are the Belt” speech.
Any time Olivia Pope and Mellie Grant held hands
Ava and Sara finally getting together on Legends of Tomorrow
BEEBO
WisCon Vid Party – and getting to hang out with everyone there
Elizabeth McCord making the decision to run for President on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial
Finishing my TGIF/F vid
@pottsisstarksheart getting Frankie Adams’ and Shohreh Aghdashloo’s autographs for me and Shohreh gave me a little video message in which she says my name and blows me a kiss.
Receiving the fanart I commissioned.
13.  Favorite villain of the year
Mariah Dillard.  I WANTED HER TO WIN, damn it.
22. Your main fandoms throughout the year
Arrowverse  (Why, I keep asking myself.  And then something happens and I love it so much again.), The Expanse, women’s basketball and volleyball, and I’m always glad to see something with Borgen, Scott & Bailey and The Thick of It.
25. Fandom predictions for next year
I will enjoy whatever The Good Place does.
Legends of Tomorrow will do batshit insane stuff and I will absolutely enjoy myself watching it.
I will love the fuck out of s4 of The Expanse, even though book 4 is not one of my favorites because my favorite books are those that have a lot of Avasarala, Bobbie and Drummer and we’re guaranteed more than what the book has already mostly by those characters getting any plot lines at all.
I will watch whatever Mike Schur puts on TV.
There will be massive wank after Avengers 4 and I won’t care.
I will probably vid some more.
The NCAA women’s basketball tournament is going to be insane if storylines from the beginning of the season remain as chaotic as they are now.

Request: Can you write a story with the prompt "could you please stop saying “the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell? its physics"" for jim kirk x reader during the academy?
“A rope rests on two platforms which are both inclined at an angle θ (which you are free to pick), as shown. The rope has uniform mass density, and its coefficient of friction with the platforms is 1. The system has left-right symmetry. What is the largest possible fraction of the rope that does not touch the platforms? What angle θ allows this maximum value?” you read aloud.
Jim responded immediately, “The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.”
You glanced up at him but let it go, choosing instead to focus on solving the problem instead. Every now and then you would look up from your work and see him staring at absentmindedly out the window. You hadn’t be able to get him to focus all afternoon. It was really starting to get on your nerves.
After typing in your answer, you spoke like you were reading the next question, “What was the first song played on the moon?”
“The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell,” he answered automatically.
“Fly Me To the Moon by Frank Sinatra,” you corrected in a monotone voice.
He looked at you, eyes clearing as he finally engaged in the conversation. “What?”
Taking advantage of his new-found attention, you said, “Could you please stop saying ‘the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell’? It’s physics. It was funny the first time, but it’s getting old fast, Kirk.”
“Sorry. Sorry. I’m a little out of it today, but you’ve got 110% of my attention now. Where are we?” He scooted his chair around to your side of the table and started looking over your work. “Do you mind if I?” Jim slipped the stylus from your fingers and started reworking the problem.
“What are you doing?” you snapped.
“The friction force should balance the sum of the balance of the gravitational plane,” he explained.
“Yeah?” you asked, still confused as to why he was writing over your work.
“So it should look like this.” He stopped writing and moved his arm to you could more clearly what he had done.
Looking it over it, a very small “oh” slipped out.
“Do you understand what you did wrong?”
“This isn’t fair,” you grumbled.
He raised his eyebrows at you and you crossed your arms, dropping to the back of your chair.
“You don’t pay attention all day, making middle school level science jokes and the second you do start paying attention, you come over here knowing this shit better than me and correcting me. It’s not fair or right.”
“Sorry, do you want me to erase it and let you flounder out here in the middle of the cosine sea?” he asked.
“First of all, rude. Second of all,” you leaned forward again to look back over the problem, “no.”
“Great. Let’s move on to the next one.” He moved back over to his screen. “Ooh. Momentum paradoxes.”
“How do you know how to do this stuff so well?” you asked. “I’ve never seen you listen to class lectures. In fact last week I’m pretty sure I saw you drawing a fanart of Abraham Lincoln.”
“He’s amazing.”
You rolled your eyes before continuing, “So how are you so good at it?”
“Just because I’m bad at sitting at a desk, listening to some middle aged guy talking at me, doesn’t mean I’m a bad student.” He punched a few numbers into his calculator. “I was valedictorian in high school.”
“You’re kidding. Mister “the T stands for trouble” is a gold star student.” You held up your PADD to show him a diagram of a triangle with the sides labeled with variations of F. “Is this right?”
“I wouldn’t go that far. I had more detentions than any other kid in my grade.” He looked closely at your screen. “Yeah, that’s perfect.”
“You’re a bit of a paradox yourself, James T.” you smiled, entering your answer.

How about a Johnny x Meena fic (Beach themed) where Johnny gets sunburnt
Sunburnt
Okie dokie guys. I felt that in honor of the first beach themed prompt I would do a human AU interpretation. Also I don’t think that I could justify a gorilla getting sunburnt. Any and all Human AU descriptions come from my own mind and are generally inspired by real people or fanart. If you have any questions about these depictions I am ever so glad to detail them out for you. And now let us continue on with the story.
When Meena Jones finally pulled up to the beach in her grandfather’s old beat up Lincoln Town Car she was practically bouncing in excitement. When Buster had organized this little barbeque on the beach she had been so excited that she packed her bag for the beach days in advance. She didn’t have a huge selection of swimsuits but she spent at least an hour trying them on and selecting her favorite. She had dropped her mom off at the diner with a kiss and a promise to pick her up at ten so that she could keep the car and then drove as fast as she dared to the beach.
She prectically leapt out of the car, gathering her bag and rushing towards the thin wisp of smoke that was originating from the grill. Once she hit the sand she slipped off her flip flops and dashed towards where her friends were gathered around a few beach chairs and a grill. As she neared her friends soft beach music reached her ears and the sweet smeel of barbeque filled the air. When she reached the beach chairs Ash was laying out on one of the chairs, safely ensconced in the shade of a nearby umbrella. Her face was buried in a book but surprisingly she was wearing a black and red bikini instead of her usual long-sleeve shirt and skinny jeans. Her dreadlocks had been pulled up in a large ponytail and she was wearing big, black, rounded sunglasses.
When Meena arrived she set down her book and stood with a lazy groan. Once she had finished stretching she pulled Meena into a quick hug and the two girls began to chat aimlessly. As they talked Meena set down her bag and nervously fiddled with the clothes that concealed her bathing suit before deciding that she could wait a little longer to reveal her suit.
She looked around and saw Rosita and Norman running around with their kids by the water. The five little hooligans were running around splashing in the waves, building sand castles and burying each other. Meena giggled affecionately as she watched the adorable little troublemakers keep their parents busy. Buster was manning the grill, whistling to himself as he flipped the burgers and turned over hot dogs. Eddie and Ms. Crawly were laying side by side in beach chairs, snoring loudly and in sync. Finally, way out in the distance two figures were sitting on surf boards waiting for a good wave. She could only assume that it was Johnny and Gunther because upon receiving his invitation to the beach Mike had sneered and said he wouldn’t be caught dead there.
At the thought of Johnny her mocha colored skin flushed slightly. She looked back and found Ash smirking at her knowingly. Meena just shrugged and fiddled with her shirt. Before Ash could make a comment about her obvious attraction to Johnny she slowly took off her shirt and shorts, revealing her favorite purple bathing suit. It hugged her body in all of the right places and was amazingly comfortable.
“Nice suit.” Ash commented as she stood up and began leading the way to the ocean. The two girls ambled down the beach over to Rosita and Norman who were taking a break while the kids took turns burying each other. They watched as Norman leaned over and gave Rosita an affectionate kiss on the cheek. Meena felt her heart flutter at the absolute cuteness of the scene in front of her but the peacefulness of the scene was quickly broken when two of Rosita’s boys ran over to Ash and Meena and began throwing balls of wet sand at the two girls. Ash got hit in the leg and Meena was struck directly in the stomach. She faked falling down to the ground and dying, calling for Ash to avenger her. Ash grinned as she grabbed two handfuls of sand and began chasing after the piglets.
Meena watched them go and Rosita appeared next to her to help her up off of the ground. The short round woman did her best to heave her curvy figure into an upright position once more. Meena valiantly tried to brush wet sand off of her body but the stubborn substance clung to her like glue.
“Hi sweetie.” Rosita said cheerfully and pulled her into a tight hug, “I’m so glad you could make it today. It’s gonna be so much fun.” Her grin grew impossibly wider and Meena gave her an affecionate squeeze before pulling away from her embrace. Almost like a magnet her gaze was once more drawn to the two forms sitting on surf boards in the middle of the ocean. Rosita followed her gaze and shook her head in exasperation.
“I wish those two boys had put on some sunscreen before they headed out there, but noooo I’m just being overprotective.” She mumbled to herself, making Meena giggle happily.
“How long have they been out there?” She asked curiously as she watched Johnny effortlessly ride a huge wave. She only half heard Rosita’s response.
“About an hour or more I think.” Rosita puzzled over for it for a second and then her attention was stolen as her children cane back for vengeance with more wet sand globs. This time, however, Ash was attacking along with then, an evil grin on her face. Meena and Rosita tried their best to defend themselves but they were outnumbered and quickly covered in sand. A truce was called after Rosita decided enough was enough and scolded her children, including Ash, with her mom voice. The kids ran off to tackle their father as soon as the scolding ended. Ash quickly rinsed off in the ocean and trekked back to the chairs where Buster had roused Eddie and Ms. Crawly and was serving food.
Meena slowly waxed into the ocean, savoring the feel of the warm water as each wave washed over her hot skin. She dipped under the water for a second, submerging her dark curls in the warm sea water. When she emerged, dripping with water and she tossed her head, trying to shake out her thick locks. She looked up and jumped slightly in surprise when she found Johnny staring at her as he leaned casually on his surfboard. His chiseled, tan chest was gleaming with sweat and ocean spray and his black hair was tousled by the wind.
Meena walked out of the ocean and up to him, her heart pounding in her chest.
“Hey Johnny.” She tried to say as suavely as possible, but it just sounded dorky to her.
“Um ‘ey Meena. Ya look nice today.” He seemed flustered which instantly made her feel more comfortable.
“Thanks so do you.” She tried not to linger her gaze on his green swim trunks and only gave them a slight glance before her gaze shot back up to his face.
Johnny smiled crookedly and opened his mouth to say something else but he was cut off by Ash’s voice as she called out to them from the grill where everyone else was waiting.
“Hey you two!! Hurry up or I’m gonna eat your food.” She called out and Johnny and Meena exchanged an amused look before hurrying over to where everyone else was eating. They loaded up their plates and grabbed two beach chairs, effectively securing their food from Ash’s bottomless stomach and joining the circle.
They sat around joking for about an hour, the sun beating down on them the entire time. After lunch Rosita wrangled her children and began rubbing sunscreen on the pale freckled skin that they had inherited from her. Once they were all lathered up she released them and went after Johnny, who was showing off his surf board to Meena and Ash.
Rosita snuck up behind him and slapped a sunscreen-covered hand onto his back. Johnny jumped away and turned to face her, crouched in a ready stance. Rosita adopted a similar stance and the two faced off while Meena and Ash watched.
“Johnathon. Bannerton. You will come here and let me put sunscreen on you or so help me…” she left the sentence hanging, her mom voice making all of the young people present straighten up reflexively. Johnny’s expression tightened in slight fear but he held steady in his stance. With a yell Rosita launched her small but formidable body at him, sending the startled guy to the ground. They wrestled for a minute before Johnny scrambled away and took off running down the beach. Rosita leapt to her feet and darted after him, moving faster than anyone had ever seen her move before. When Johnny looked back and saw her hot on his heels he sped up and ran for the water at full speed. Just as he was about to launch himself into the water Rosita leapt through the air like a ninja and tackled him into the ocean. Johnny hit the water with an audible slap that made everyone watching flinch reflexively, yet no one came to his aid.
Eventually Rosita stomped back to shore in a huff while Johnny watched from farther out in the water. She sent him a glare before returning to her sunny expression and her lounge chair where Norman was patiently waiting to be sun screened up. Everyone watching looked at the portly man and hole just shrugged, still smiling.
“It’s best to just let her have her way.” He said and then everyone scattered to put on sunscreen as Rosita neared the group. Even Meena, who never burned, lathered her skin in sunscreen.
About twenty minutes later Johnny felt that he was safe enough to return to land and he cautiously approached Meena and Ash. Rosita paid him no mind as she sat in the sand with her children making a huge sandcastle.
“Anyone wanna play some volleyball?” Johnny asked eagerly as he retrieved a volleyball from his backpack.
Meena, Ash, Eddie, Buster and Gunther agreed to play and they all began setting up a makeshift court by drawing lines in the sand. When it was finished the split into two teams. Johnny, Buster and Gunther and Ash Meena and Eddie.
Thus began a truly epic game of volleyball filled with needless dives into the sand, many losses of the volleyball, and so much laughter that no one could keep score. By the time they decided to call it quits the court had been destroyed and they were all laughing through their panting breaths. They stumbled back to the chairs to rest and Johnny collapsed on his designated chair. Because he was the most athletically inclined on his team he spent most of the game attempting to score until he gave up and played silly. As a result he was exhausted enough that all he could do was roll over onto his back, put on sunglasses, and go to sleep.
His soft snores made Meena giggle but after grabbing a soda she joined Ash in a walk along the beach. The two walked up and down the beach, playing in the waves and looking for exotic shells. Meena stumbled up a beautiful conch by accident and eagerly carried it back to the beach site to show everyone. By now the sun had started to set and the last couple days were reaching out over the horizon. When they got back to camp Buster and Norman were starting a bonfire while Rosita set up a snores station.
Unsurprisingly, Meena volunteered to go get Johnny so he could join them. Ash rolled her eyes as she dashed away but her smile gave away that her annoyance was affectionate in her own way.
When Meena found Johnny he was still passed out on the beach chair with his sunglasses on. Meena reached out to shake him awake and then pulled her hand back with a gasp. Every inch of visible skin was as red as a tomato.
“Johnny…Johnny!” She whispered, trying to hold back her giggles. He jerked awake and sat up quickly, looking around for the source of his name. When he saw Meena a sleepy smile spread across his face and he took off his sunglasses so he could wink at her.
Unfortunately this only made Meena laugh harder when he revealed the obvious sunglasses marks on his face.
“Wot’s so funny?” He asked, confused but Meena couldn’t say anything through her giggles. He waited slightly impatiently until she calmed down and was looking down at him with mirth filled eyes.
“Oh Johnny….Oh I’m so sorry but you look so funny…” she giggled but quickly schooled her face when he gave her another confused look.
“Wot do ya mean?” He frowned and Meena grabbed her phone so he could see himself in the front-facing camera.
“Johnny, your entire body is sunburnt.” She said as solemnly as possible. Johnny gaped at the red face that stared back at him on her screen and looked up at her, still in shock.
“But….But I never get sun burnt.” He whimpered and then hissed in pain when his hand slapped against his reddened stomach.
“You should have listened to Rosita.” Meena admonished him but the look didn’t last long as an idea occurred to her and she hurried over to rifle through her bag. Johnny watched her bemusedly but his eyes lit up with recognition when he saw the bottle she was returning with. This blue substance would save his ass.
He eagerly took the aloe gel from her and began lathering the entire front of his body with it. Cautiously Meena walked around behind him to see if he had been burned on the back too. What she found was a sea of red on his back, only broken up by his waist line and a single, tiny handprint impression.
Meena snorted as she desperately tried to hold back her laughter, trying to preserve at least a small amount of his dignity. Johnny stiffened and turned his head to catch her gaze, his eyes filled with an empty hope that his back had been spared. Meena shook her head and Johnny hung his head in disappointment. When he finally had the courage to look up he gestured to his back and then the bottle, his cheeks suddenly even redder.
“Could ya….could ya put this on my back?” He asked haltingly and Meena’s giggled immediately disappeared as her heart began to pound loudly in her chest.
“S-sure.” She stuttered out and accepted the bottle from him. Shakily she squeezed some aloe onto her hand and began to spread it over his back. Johnny moaned aloud as a pain that he hadn’t even been aware of was soothed by Meena and the magical blue gel. Meena’s heart almost stopped when he moaned but she kept spreading the aloe until his entire back was covered. Reluctantly she pulled her hand away from his warm smooth skin and stepped back.
“Whelp. That’s everything.” Johnny got up and grabbed a jacket, delicately sliding it over his reddened skin.
“Thanks Meena.” He said sheepishly and when she went to hurry past him and towards the bonfire he reached out a hand to gently grip her hand. She stopped in her tracks and breathlessly turned around to face him. His eyes were wide just like hers and his hand was sweaty but he was still smiling that adorable crooked smile that set him at an advantage.
“Wahn more thing.” He looked down and then back at her, “Could we keep the whole sun burn thing between us? I daan’t think I can ‘ankle Rosita’s ‘I told ya so’ right nah.”
Meena’s breath suddenly flowed back into her and she relaxed slightly. She squeezed his hand slightly in reassurance and then smiled brightly up at him.
“Sure thing Johnny. Just us.” She promised and just when she thought she would escape without embarrassing herself Johnny leaned in and bestowed a gentle kiss on her cheek. Meena froze and gaped up at him for a second, her expression causing him to chuckle quietly. Slowly she shook herself out of it and managed to walk with him to the bonfire where they joined Ash in the beach chairs that she had saved for them.
Ash looked over at Meena teasingly and elbowed her in the side playfully.
“Hey Meena, why are you so red? Didja get sunburned?” But Meena remained silent, her entire face bright red.

Cegan Prompts list
I’ve seen lately that some people are writing awesome things inspired by prompts and I thought it could be helpful to make a kind of prompt master-list of all the little things that have come up at some point? I tried to do this months ago, but it got really messy, really fast, so this is a second... questionably more organized attempt.
Also I’m adding the users who posted the prompts so anyone can ask them permission. If there is no name it means I was the one who posted it, you don’t have to ask (use it, change it a little, change it a lot, it’s yours).
I’m also adding links in case someone is filling/has already filled a prompt, if you want to make sure someone’s not already doing the exact same thing you’re thinking of (but I’m a great believer that a fandom never has enough soulmates or cafeteria aus).
P.s: please tell me about anything you’d add or if you see there’s anything wrong :)  this can be actualized as many times as necessary.
General
@shipping-cegan “Imagine your OTP cuddling during a thunderstorm and person B is terrified and person A has to comfort them and strokes their hair and does other cute things until they fall asleep oh my god I’m going down mayday mayday.”
@awkwardterror Carl getting injured during his attempt to kill Negan, getting taken to the Saviors’ doctor who patches him up and pumps him full of painkillers aka say hello to slightly age regressed/whiny and cuddly Carl who definitely does not see the issue in clinging to a very (at first) disturbed Negan.
- @agentevil filled this (x).
(full prompt here) So what if there were still scientists working on fixing this giant fuck up that is the zombie apocalypse? What if they found a vaccine? Imagine humans start to regain control over the land and rebuild society.
- @bubblewrapstargirl filled this (x).
Soulmate AUs
@ticcraft The Soulmate AU where when you touch you can finally see all the beautiful colors of the world.
The dead may walk the earth but life keeps going, and people keep getting their soulmate’s first words tattooed in their skin, and that at least is one of the small joys there is left. When Carl wakes up one morning with his shoulder burning and he reads “Shit kid, lighten up, at least cry a little” he is not sure what to think. The universe works in mysterious ways.
@shipping-cegan Soulmate AU where people have half a tattoo, and when you meet your soulmate it’s completed. Imagine Carl not being able to find his soulmate, so he decides to make an appointment to complete the tattoo. But when the tattoo artist (Negan) enters the room he sees that it’s complete, and   so is his own half.
- @negans-carl filled this (x).
(Non-apocalyptic) Modern AUs
@bunny-lou Negan is looking for a sitter for his kid (Judith or Daryl?) and Carl responds for the job.
(Neighbours au) Carl loves his dad, but he’s really happy to finally be able to move out to his own apartment. Even if the only one he could afford is in this pretty shitty building, and his only neighbors are an old lady who looks like she could kill you, a (really handsome) asshole called Negan, and his cat, Lucille, which lowkey reminds him of Ms Norris from Harry Potter and somehow keeps sneaking into his home and making him have to knock on Negan’s door to give her back.
@flyingmintbunny123 Negan and Carl get snowed in one day and sexiness ensues
@flyingmintbunny123 It’s Cegan’s first New Years together and at midnight they have their first kiss!!
@flyingmintbunny123 This is gonna be meta af but Carl finds a comic with the characters Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs etc. and notices everyone he knows kinda looks like them.
(Mafia AU) Carl starts looking for a part time job for the summer and ends up working as the delivery guy/coffee guy/sometimes secretary for the CEO of this very (very) suspicious company, The Sanctuary Inc., a man called Negan. Carl has the vague impression that he’s working for the mafia, but hell, Negan pays well.
(Prison AU) Carl starts hanging out with the bad kids, does some dumb shit, and ends up getting into some serious trouble with law. He gets just one year, but it still feels like the end of the world. To top it all off, the first thing he does when he sets a foot in the prison is to piss off the one inmate that everyone seems to be scared shitless off. His name, the man happily informs him, is Negan.
@why-do-i-ship-this is currently filling this (x).
Other Fictional Universe AU
@weinsanedreamer55 (Hunger Games AU) Negan being Carl’s bristly ptsd mentor (came up in this post).
@My-flatmate-when-he-read-the-aforementioned-post: “Why did none of you creeps think of Negan being President Negan and rigging the hunger games in Carl’s favor just cause he likes him?” (P.s: you don’t have to credit my flatmate and the Hunger Games au is still Weinsanedreamer’s idea).
Beauty and the Beast AU? Negan being all dramatic about being a monster and shit? Carl saving the day by the power of his luscious hair and his pure heart? No? What if I told you that Simon could be Ms Potts?
(Hogwarts AU) It’s Carl’s last year in Hogwarts. Just one more year and he won’t have to see the Quidditch Coach’s handsome stupid face ever again. No, he’s not sad about it, and no, he won’t miss his crude jokes, ok? He’s glad to get Mr Negan out of his hair, thank you very much.
Other AUs
(Greek Goods AU) Negan and Carl as Hades and Persephone.
- @okuma-holmes did fanart for this (x)
- I did fanart for this (x)
@bunny-lou Negan is a pirate who takes only the most beautiful treasures. When he sails to Alexandria, the gold doesn’t interest him, but a young man with only one eye who isn’t afraid of him might be his greatest treasure yet.
@bunny-lou (Vampire!AU) One is a vampire hunter out to kill the other?
@okuma-holmes did fanart of this (x)
(Demon!Carl AU) (full prompt here) Negan realizing there’s something not quite right with Carl, but not being able to put his finger on it, until he asks “The hell is wrong with you, kid?”, and Carl smiles, his one eye going pitch black, and he whispers, “Oh, so many things.”.
- @imaginecegan is currently filling this (x)
(Werewolf!Negan AU) That’s basically it, Negan’s a werewolf. This started as a Little Red Ridding Hood inspired thing, so that could also be a cool approach.
- I am currently filling this (x)
(Western AU) The only reason why Negan is sipping bad whiskey in this dirty corner of this dirty tavern is to get familiar with the town, so when he robs the bank, he’s in and out fast. He’ll admit that he didn’t plan for the Sheriff’s son to take a seat beside him and be all like “Hey, I know what you’re up to, you should go, before you find out how dangerous we all are”.

Left Behind, Chapter One
I don’t normally write fanfiction, but here’s an attempt at what I hope will be a much larger story. It was brought on mainly by rewatching Operation Z.E.R.O. and looking at AU fanart for C:KND. So in the end, I decided to throw my collander-helmet into the ring. It’s an AU fic that takes place fairly early in the main series timeline,  but takes several creative liberties. Without giving away too much, the Delightful Children From Down The Lane as you know them are absent from this universe.
Fanfiction.net link:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12399557/1/Left-Behind
Characters: Monty Uno, Numbuh One (A.K.A. Nigel Uno), Numbuh 5 (A.K.A. Abigail Lincoln), Benedict Uno
Set: Pre-Series timeline /AU.
Summary: When the members of Sector V all go missing under mysterious circumstances, it is the families that take it the hardest. Monty Uno finds himself reflecting on the events that led to this tragedy.
“What happened, Nigel-Old-Bean? I was only trying to be your friend…” Monty Uno looked down at the floor as he sat down in what was once his son’s bedroom. He would often do so in his spare time when he wasn’t occupied with his job as a band director at one of the local schools. He read the “Do’s and Don'ts” section of the newspaper religiously, he’d take Nigel out fishing with him, he’d done everything is his power to try and be a better father to Nigel than Pappy was with him. Monty wondered if it had something to do with the incident that happened with Nigel not long ago. He thought back to that very day.
It was an ordinary afternoon. Monty was in the music room directing his students when he received a phone call from the hospital. Dr. Lincoln told him that Nigel was there, and that was all he needed to hear. In a hurry, he quickly dismissed his students and drove straight for the hospital. He found his wife Katherine trying to comfort Dr. Lincoln’s youngest daughter. They were sitting outside the emergency room where Nigel was being operated on. The little girl was bandaged and was shaking terribly. She saw one glance of him and pulled her hat down to cover her eyes.
“I…I…I’m s-s-sorry, Mistah Uno” she sobbed “I tried to help Nigel, b-b-but…” she trailed off and shook again. “Its all my fault” she sniffed and tossed her red hat aside.
“No, no, sweetie, Nigel just had an accident. It wasn’t your fault.” Katherine was trying her hardest to soothe the distressed child and looked up at Monty.
Monty’s heart ached for the little girl; whatever it was that happened to Nigel, he wasn’t going to blame her for it. He kneeled down so he could talk to her at eye level.
“It’s alright,” said Monty “I’m sure you did all you could. You did the right thing bringing Nigel here. I just need to know what happened.” Abby nodded and started to speak.
“Well, I found Nigel, and he was hurt real bad, and…and…” She paused as her mouth suddenly became agape. To Monty it looked like she knew what she wanted to say but something was keeping the words from coming out. Monty was beginning to worry that Abby might need to be hospitalized herself.
“Are you alright dear? Do you need anything?” Abby didn’t speak a word, she just pointed her finger in his direction, shaking. “It’s alright, I’m not upset with you,” he said softly. Abby shook her head furiously and pointed her finger again. Monty was getting nowhere, but he didn’t want to say anything that might upset Abby further. Quickly he changed tactics and put on a smile, and pretended to furrow his eyebrows as if in concentration. “Oh, I know, this is one of those guessing games isn’t it? Oh, don’t tell me…is it something behind me?” he asked. Abby relaxed just a little bit and nodded. She still had a look of terror on her face, but she wasn’t shaking. A ghost of a smile crept across Monty’s face “Now there’s a step in the right direction.” he thought. Now just what or, perhaps who was behind him that was making Abby so uneasy?
He turned around and saw his brother Benedict in his usual dress shirt and suspenders looking at Abby with an annoyed look on his face. Though for a moment, Monty thought he might need his eyes checked. Ben’s eyes seemed to glow like two burning coals behind his spectacles. When Monty blinked, they were their natural blue again. Monty wasn’t sure what it was about his brother that made children so afraid of him. He remembered something similar used to happen with Pappy when he was a boy and figured his brother also had that effect on children. It wasn’t a particularly good explanation, but it was one. There was an awkward silence that felt as if it could be cut with a knife.
“It’s not polite to point, dear.” said Monty as he rose back up to his feet. He turned his attention to the other man. “Hello, Ben. What brings you here?”
Benedict’s annoyed look quickly changed into one of concern.
“Monty, I heard about what happened to Nigel; is he alright?” Monty couldn’t place his finger on it but something wasn’t quite right. Maybe it was that Ben sounded a little too…rehearsed, or maybe it was the fact that Abby was still hiding behind Katherine, but his thoughts were interrupted when Dr. Lincoln came out of the doors.
“Dr. Lincoln do you know if Nigel will be alright?” asked Monty pointedly.
Dr. Richard Lincoln sighed. “Well Monty, it’s a good thing Nigel came here when he did. He’ll probably end up losing his hair, but from what I can tell it could’ve been a lot worse with the bleeding and the scarring and the…awww, you know what Ima’ talking about.” Again, a ghost of a smile crossed Monty’s face. Richard was a good man who always seemed to lift people’s spirits with his upbeat personality. Richard placed a reassuring hand on Monty’s shoulder “He’s gonna be alright.” He turned his attention to Abby, then to her red hat lying on the floor. He picked it up off the floor and placed it back on his daughter’s head. “Nigel will be okay, Abby. Promise you’ll put on a brave face for your Daddy, okay?” His daughter smiled and threw herself into her father’s embrace.
“Katherine, would you mind taking Abby back to your house? I’ll call Cree to walk her home.” Katherine nodded and Monty watched as she led Abby towards the elevator. Abby’s gaze not leaving Benedict who looked back out of the corner of his eye. Monty still couldn’t understand what that was all about.
“Richard, did Abby have anything to say about what happened to Nigel? Abby tried to…” He paused and sniffed the air. “Do you smell smoke?” He turned his attention Benedict who was lighting his pipe, as if he suddenly became disinterested in what was going on. Now it was Richard’s turn to be annoyed.
“You! No pipes near the emergency room! With the second hand smoke, and the threats to sick patients, and the risk of igniting flammable materials, and the awww, you know what Ima’ talkin’ about!” said Richard, who was making several exasperated hand gestures. Part of Monty was trying not to laugh, while the other part was questioning Ben’s sudden shift in attitude again.
Ben quickly snuffed the flame and feigned surprise “Oh goodness, I do apologize Doctor. With all the excitement I needed something to steady my nerves. I’ll go outside. I hope Nigel gets well again soon.” Ben left and Richard went back into the emergency room, leaving Monty all alone…
“Monty? Monty are you awake?”
Monty opened a sleepy eye. Dr. Lincoln was standing in front of him. Monty looked down at his lap and saw a copy of the newspaper sitting in his lap. Last thing he remembered he picked it up to read in a bid to “steady his nerves”, as Benedict put it. It appeared he had done just that and dozed off through Nigel’s operation.
“Well, I am now. Is it about Nigel?” He yawned.
“As a matter of fact, he’s sleeping right now. I can take you in to see him as long as you don’t make any noises.” replied Dr. Lincoln
Monty agreed, trying to put on a brave face for when he finally saw what had become of his son. The last time he had been this nervous was when Nigel was born. While he couldn’t remember part of his childhood for some strange reason, one thing he always remembered was that Pappy was anything but a good father. Sure, as Pappy’s first born, he received more favor, but Monty didn’t recall having it much better than Ben or the other kids. Sure, Monty did the bookkeeping for his father’s business while Ben and the others were working on the factory floor making tapioca (wait, how did Pappy get away with child labor?) Then there was his birthday cake…oh the cake. So delicious, and Pappy always forced him to eat every last bite himself without allowing him to offer it to Ben or the other children… while they were tied to chairs? “I must’ve been having strange dreams while I was sleeping” thought Monty.
While Monty didn’t have many fond memories of Pappy (hazy though they were), he was nervous at the prospect of becoming a father. If Monty’s scattered memories served, that had been when he picked up his habit of reading the “dos and don'ts” section of the paper. Monty wasn’t entirely sure what made his side of the family so dysfunctional, but now he had a chance to break the cycle.
He’d never forget when the doctor directed him to his wife’s room. There, in his wife’s arms was his newborn son, Nigel. Little Nigel was in his wife’s arms, sleeping softly while wrapped in blankets. He was so serene, so innocent, his skin unbroken, a blank canvas, a story yet to be written…
And a sharp contrast to the boy lying in bed before Monty.
His head and left arm were bandaged, his right arm linked to an IV, his breathing ragged, and the only sound besides being the heart monitor’s beep. Monty pulled up a chair next to the bed and carefully held Nigel’s good hand. Just what had happened to his son that left him like this?
Then Nigel jolted up screaming and caused Monty to recoil. The boy looked around frantically screaming the word “Father” repeatedly before a violent cough cut it short. Monty reached to calm his son down. “It’s alright Nigel, I’m here…I’m here” He gently patted his son on the back as he looked up with tears welling in his eyes.
“W-Where am I?” asked Nigel, trembling.
“You’re in the hospital, Nigel. That nice Dr. Lincoln over there operated on you after Abby brought you in” said Monty gesturing to the man. Nigel calmed down a little, but there was still worry etched into his features
“Where is Abby?”
“She went home with your mother. Abby will be all right, Nigel.” Truthfully, Monty wasn’t so sure about that last part, but he didn’t want to worry his son further. Nigel was still tense.
“What about Cree? The others?”
Monty was puzzled. He knew Cree was Dr. Lincoln’s eldest daughter, but these “others” were unknown to him. Friends from school perhaps? He wasn’t quite sure what they had to do with any of this. Dr. Lincoln perked up.
“Oh, I think they were hanging out with Cree before I called her to pick Abby up. But they should be all right. You on the other hand need your rest. With the sleeping, and the snoring, and the…awww you know what Ima’ talkin’ about!” and gave a good-natured laugh. That left Nigel feeling a little better. As Monty was about to leave, the boy was ready to protest. Monty assured him that he’d be back to visit him again tomorrow with his mother.
It was a slow recovery for Nigel. Abby would frequently stop by the hospital after school to check up on the boy and Monty sometimes found them talking about something called the “Kids Next Door”. Though what that was he didn’t know…maybe it was some kind of special club?
Nigel still didn’t like being left alone, especially in the dark. For him, every shadow was large enough to conceal some sort of boogeyman out to snatch him up. Monty remembered when Katherine brought their son a nightlight. The minute she plugged it into the electrical outlet, it bathed Nigel’s nightstand in a red-orange glow. Nigel still seemed tense when he and his wife left despite the light dispelling the sinister shadows. Then one night when Katherine went to plug in the light again, Nigel insisted that he didn’t need it anymore. Monty was pleased at his son’s recovery.
Then, when Nigel finally left the hospital, his personality changed completely. Monty and Katherine were surprised to hear that Nigel wanted to go to a summer camp like Abby. His reasoning was that after talking with Abby, he realized that he couldn’t hide forever. He’d have to rise up and overcome his problems. “I’m only a kid once, Dad.” Katherine and Monty were skeptical, but agreed.
And so Nigel went to summer camp, keeping in touch with his parents every so often, telling them about how Abby had his back and how he had made friends with Chad Dickson from across the street. For a time, it seemed like Nigel was managing to make something positive come out of his accident.
What followed was a rather bizarre turn of events, and that was putting it lightly. Looking back, it was highly likely that the incident that caused Nigel’s hair loss had something to do with it.
He recalled the first warning sign came at the start of the new school year after a boy named Wallabee Beetles moved in. On the boy’s first day of school, Katherine received a phone call from Gallagher Elementary. Nigel had apparently gotten into a scuffle with a group of kids and was covered in bruises. To hear Nigel resort to violence like that was out of character to Monty. When questioned about it, his son claimed he was trying to protect Wallabee because “the Kids Next Door save kids, it’s our job.” Monty didn’t know what this “Kids Next Door” was, but he could tell Nigel had good intentions. So he was firm with Nigel that he should tell a teacher the next time it happens. He tried not to be too harsh on the boy, and called the Beetles residence to invite the family over for dinner.
The dinner was mostly uneventful; Monty tried to remain attentive to Sydney Beetles and his long-winded stories about his job working for that Fulbright fellow from down the street. After that, Nigel and Wally were playing video games and chatting up about Nigel’s kids-on-the-block-or-whatever-it-was until it was time for desert. Liza Beetles was talking to Katherine about how she couldn’t remember the last time she had seen her son play with another child.
Nigel and Wallabee were kindred spirits as far as Monty could tell. Both were kids from foreign countries who felt alone in the world. Perhaps it was fate that they both found each other, much like how it seemed when Nigel himself met Hoagie Gilligan in kindergarten.
Monty himself had also hit it off with Sydney Beatles over their mutual love of “footy”. He was sorry when the family had to leave, but offered the invitation to pop over for a visit whenever they liked. Monty decided that perhaps some good could come out of Nigel’s little club.
Then there was the time Nigel had been invited to Kuki Sanban’s birthday party. Nigel didn’t think too much of it at the time. Kuki was a bubbly little girl and had invited their whole homeroom. But as Monty would later learn from Nigel: most of the other kids wouldn’t give her the time of the day. When Monty brought Nigel with him to the party, he was amazed by how extravagant the whole affair was. Monty wouldn’t admit it, but he and Ben were very much children of “old money”. Whereas Ben would flaunt his wealth in that fancy mansion he lived in down the lane, Monty chose to live a more modest lifestyle. When he talked with Genki Sanban, she spoke with a sad smile how she wanted to give her daughter nothing short of the sun and the moon. She was born into a much lower social class than Monty, and had to work her way to the top as a C.F.O. for a Fortune 500 company.
When Monty looked over to her daughter, it was clear something was amiss. Kuki’s party had everything a child could want: bouncy castles, a large birthday cake, colorful balloons, and all the presents she could ever want. Yet Kuki was sitting all by herself while the other kids were playing. It seemed like there was one thing Kuki wasn’t getting for her birthday. When he looked back, he noticed Nigel wasn’t at his side any more. Somehow the boy had slipped away from his sight and was walking towards Kuki with his brightly wrapped gift box.
Even Kuki was surprised to see Nigel go out of his way to seek her out and personally wish her a happy birthday without prompting. She was very happy when she saw her present: a bright red Rainbow Monkey (though Monty couldn’t truly tell one of these dolls from the other). Next thing Monty knew, Kuki was hugging Nigel and all but cutting off his oxygen (not that his son seemed to mind too much). It wasn’t long after that Nigel introduced her to Hoagie, Wally, and Abby. And so Kuki ended up getting the one thing she really wanted for her birthday after all.
When Nigel met Hoagie P. Gilligan Jr. in kindergarten, the two were inseparable. Monty had the boy to thank for giving Nigel a mild interest in hobby kits. Though, if the still unfinished one on his desk was anything to go by, Nigel didn’t have the knack for building that he did designing. Whenever they were building models from scratch, it was always Nigel who drew out the designs with pencils, crayons, or whatever else they could find. But it was Hoagie who always saw the designs through to completion. It wasn’t unusual to see Nigel in his bedroom with Hoagie, a mound of crumpled papers, and several schematics sprawled across the floor. Nigel and Hoagie called them “two-four-technobobs” or something of the sort.
Monty thought back to the time when they tried to sneak some of Katherine’s cookies from the kitchen before dinner. Monty had a particularly taxing practice session with the band students (that sousaphone player’s sharps were awfully flat). He was surprised when he walked in the house and saw Nigel and his friend ducking behind the kitchen wall with a remote control. Monty looked up and saw they were controlling a modified toy plane with a claw attached to the bottom. Nigel looked over at Monty and quickly shushed him before he could speak. Monty decided there was no harm in watching his son’s attempts and gave the boy an encouraging wink. After all, not even he succeeded in sneaking one of his wife’s cookies before dinner.
Monty watched as Hoagie pressed a button and lowered the claw to grab the lid of the cookie jar. He was certainly impressed when the boy operated the toy with such skill as to lift the lid off without alerting Katherine, who was busy preparing to boil some asparagus. Though Hoagie didn’t succeed at getting a hold of even one cookie before Katherine caught them with the claw in the cookie jar. Quickly, the boys withdrew the plane and made a hasty retreat up the stairs. Katherine called up to them cheekily applauding their creativity for the failed attempt. It looked to Monty like it would be back to the drawing board for Nigel and Hoagie. Parents one, kids zero.
And of course, Monty would be remiss if he didn’t mention Abby Lincoln. Abby had become something of a safety net among their group of friends, especially for Nigel ever since his accident. While Nigel was the leader of the pack as far as Monty could tell, Abby was the second in command. She still hadn’t forgiven herself for what happened to Nigel, no matter how many times everyone else insisted it wasn’t her fault. Abby was a good girl, an honor student, and sometimes left Monty wondering why she wasn’t the leader. There was the time Nigel was screaming about how they were under attack by “kid-eating leeches”. The other kids went along with Nigel, though it was unclear whether it was because they believed him or were just humoring him as his friends. Nonetheless, Abby convinced Nigel that he was just imagining things and explained that it was just snowing. Which brought Monty to his next point.
His son became far more paranoid. Looking back, there was a connection: everything seemed to happen all at once after whatever incident caused Nigel to lose his hair. Though what this incident was, Monty could never get a straight answer from his son.
Nigel still trusted Dr. Lincoln, for all of his bluster. But every other doctor was met with great suspicion. Monty remembered the attempt to file a restraining order against Nigel by that one doctor the boy was spying on. He knew his son could get carried away, but surely a restraining order on a kid was a bit excessive. But Nigel was still convinced that all other doctors were up to anti-kid activity. Every shot he was given was an attempt to infect him with all manner of toxins. Not toxins to stimulate immune responses, just regular toxins to poison him. He thought back to the recent fiasco with that Dr. Sharpe fellow. Katherine regaled Monty with one of Nigel’s fantasies about the doctor chasing him like some big-game hunter. Granted, that same doctor ended up being arrested for quackery and was ousted by an anonymous individual as a criminal named Chester Banks. Alright, Monty would let Nigel have that one.
Then Nigel ranted about how every dentist trying to implant sub-molar tracking devices. Nigel like most kids was suspicious of dentists, and Katherine blamed it on watching too many cartoons. Then that same week the local dentist, a man named Jasper Jelly, was found on the floor the dentist’s office with several of his teeth missing. The police thought it looked like they had been punched out. It turned out that Jelly was working as an unlicensed dentist by day, and by night he ran around in a strange costume calling himself “Knightbrace.” The man made himself out to be one of those American comic book superheroes like Major Glory or Vallhallen. Of course, many would describe Jelly’s actions as anything but heroic. Among the other things he did, Jelly performed forceful (and often painful) dental procedures on random children. The real dentist, Dr. Sigmund Teeth, was later rescued from a broom closet, having been bound and gagged by the self-proclaimed “Enamel Avenger.” Teeth was unable to confirm the identity of his rescuer, but gratefully extended a free checkup as token of appreciation over the local news before the anchors cut him off.
First there was that Chester character, now Jelly. It had to be a coincidence, Monty told himself at the time. Dentists were supposed to be out to help children. He couldn’t understand why so many, including Nigel, thought that they delighted in nothing more than torturing them. Not that this Jelly character would help Monty’s case, though. What was this town coming to?
And then there was the day Katherine told him about how she had received another phone call from Gallagher Elementary. Nigel’s history teacher, Mr. Frybingle (such a silly name), complained that he disrupted class to rant about how the buzzing fluorescent lights were “adult-microwave-cranial-jellifiers turning children’s brains into milkshakes.” Monty tried not to laugh at this one in front of his wife. Nigel had a vivid imagination…Monty thought that might make a good science fiction story. “You need to do something about this, Monty. No son of mine is going to disrupt class with some rigmarole!” She rolled the “r” sounds and waved her hands for emphasis. While Katherine was clearly bemused, he on the other hand, was very amused. Nonetheless, he decided to humor his wife. Monty suggested that Nigel might improve his behavior if he got to know his family a little better. Katherine agreed.
So Monty took Nigel with him to visit Pappy at the Surewood Retirement Home on Saturday. He remembered when he first introduced Pappy to his new grandson. Nigel cried like any other infant, but Monty didn’t think too much of it then. Katherine calmed the child and everything was fine. Now when Nigel saw the man, he looked almost…unnerved by Pappy. He wasn’t overly afraid, but he cringed slightly whenever Pappy tried to pat him on the shoulder. Nigel looked at the man like he was a terrible demon ready to steal his soul (Not that Pappy could tell.) Monty never really liked visiting the man much anyway. He almost wondered why he still bothered doing that. Monty shook his head and watched Nigel run off to meet his schoolmate Hoagie Gilligan, who was visiting his grandmother.
When visiting hours were over, it was raining so hard that Monty could barely see the road in front of him. Monty called his wife to tell her that they were going to stop for cheeseburgers on the way home until the storm blew over. Nigel was quiet, and didn’t seem to respond to Monty’s attempts at conversation. He put on the car radio and tried playing a game of “twenty questions”, but to no avail.
They walked into the restaurant, got their table and went through the motions. Nigel ate his bacon cheeseburger quietly, and didn’t respond much beyond simple yes or no questions. Monty decided to order the signature ice cream bombs for dessert. Blurpleberry for himself and for Nigel, his favorite flavor of pistachio. Nigel picked at his dessert, which worried Monty. Normally the dessert was his favorite part of the meal. “Now Nigel-Old-Bean, I’ll confess that I don’t much like visiting Pappy anymore than you do, but it wasn’t all bad was it?” he asked. Nigel mumbled something under his breath that Monty couldn’t understand. “I’m sorry, son, could you please repeat that?”
“You don’t believe me, do you?”
“Eh, what?” asked Monty “What is it that I don’t I believe you about”
“About the dentists, the shots, the fluorescent lights, adult tyranny, everything!” Nigel stopped short when he realized the waiter was looking at him surprised before setting the bill on the table and leaving. Mortified, Nigel slunk back in his chair.
“Surely all adults can’t be ‘tyrannical'…there’s me for example!”
“But you’re my dad, of course you’re not!”
Part of Monty was pleased that in spite of whatever happened to Nigel, he still trusted his father…at least that’s how he interpreted it. Though he would never admit it to Nigel, he had noticed a spike in crimes targeted at children in the paper during the last few months. There was nothing in the “Do’s and Don’t’s” section of the paper to prepare him on how to broach the subject to his son. So Monty decided that he would try being frank with Nigel.
“Look Nigel, I know you have a lot of fun with your 'kids-on-the-block’ buddies, but…”
“Kids Next Door” corrected Nigel.
“Right, right. And I know things are…shall we say…topsy-turvy?” Nigel’s expression darkened. Monty had to react quickly and hoped whatever he said next wouldn’t upset his soon too much. “But understand, Nigel-Old-Bean, there is an adult right in front of you who wants to help you very much. But you have to tell me first, instead of flying of the handle and…oh dear” Only now had Monty just realized what he had done when he saw Nigel looking down at the ground.
“I’ll go wait in the car” said Nigel.
Without another word, Monty unlocked the car outside and his son walked out into the pouring rain. He made a mental note to write a letter to the editor for The Daily Neighbor.
Nigel was becoming more and more distant now, even from his own family. Sure there, was their annual family vacation to Hap-Happyland, and even in his current state Nigel couldn’t resist riding the rollercoasters. But then there were times when he’d go out and seemed like he’d rather be somewhere else. Nigel was now going out of his way to avoid going fishing, something they both used to enjoy so much together. And sometimes when he did go, one of his “kids on the block” buddies would interrupt their quality time and Nigel would just leave.
At first, Monty figured it was all a great game of pretend like how children would pretend to be Yipper or a Pretty Princess Rainbow Monkey on the playground. He offered to join the game once, suggesting that he could be “Numbuh Zero” to Nigel’s “Numbuh One”(why did that seem so significant?) In any case, this was met with a response about how there are no adults in the kids-on-the-block and Monty relented. It was all fun at first, but Nigel continued to become more and more distant.
Then, when his schoolwork started to take a turn for the worst, Katherine decided it was time to intervene. So she looked into finding a child psychologist for Nigel, figuring it might help them work out what was wrong with their son.
And finally, came That Day.
That Day, Katherine took Nigel to the psychologist, and despite initial protests had relented at the promise of pistachio ice cream. After Nigel was directed to the doctor’s office, that was when things went wrong.
Katherine had been in the waiting room when she heard a loud crash and Nigel’s scream. She told the police she ran into the office and found it was set alight. The last thing she claimed to see before being knocked out by the smoke was Nigel in the clutches of a strange man. When she was asked what the man looked like, she said his face was shadowed despite the whole room being illuminated by the fire. By the time the fire department got there, the fire was already put out and everyone inside evacuated safely. Monty hurried over as soon as he heard the news and felt his heart shatter when he saw Katherine clutching Nigel’s favorite sunglasses, now cracked and scorched. Any leads the police could’ve used were lost in the fire, and there was a very distinct possibility that if Nigel wasn’t already dead… Monty didn’t want to even think about that.
One of the witnesses went on the local news and provided a testimony that supported Katherine’s version of the events. He also claimed to have seen a group of little people wearing samurai armor and combat fatigues facing the “shadowed man”. Almost no outlets, not even the local newspaper covered the events in depth. A few of the seedier publications had ran with this version of the story and added that these “little samurai people” were using household appliances modified into weaponry to fight Nigel’s captor before being knocked out themselves. Of course, these were the same tabloids that claimed there were multiple sightings of the Grim Reaper in a town called Endsville. Then again, even a broken clock was right twice a day. That same witness was later hospitalized after his house exploded due to a gas leak in the night. All sorts of rumors had begun cropping up about how this “shadowed man” might be behind it or that it was some pyromaniac who escaped from the happy hotel wanting vengeance on the town.
The next day, Senator Samuel Safely called Monty and Katherine to an emergency assembly at the school gymnasium. Safely, who would normally fret over every potential threat to kids, became dead serious now that an actual threat had surfaced. Safely urged all children to keep their eyes open for any suspicious characters and never talk to strangers before opening the floor to the Unos. Katherine nodded and took the microphone.
“Please children, if you see any sign of Nigel, please tell us. We just want to see our son come home safe and sound.” Monty remained silent and nodded in agreement. He spotted Abby and the rest of Nigel’s friends among the crowd. Wally and Kuki were holding hands and trying to comfort one another. Hoagie was still like a statue, and any emotion in his eyes hidden by his aviator goggles. Abby’s head was held low at first, but then surprised Monty by looking directly at him from the bleachers. He couldn’t tell from where he was standing, but it looked like Abby was mouthing something to him.
“I’ll find him”
Abby and the others wouldn’t be coming home from school that day.
And so the police now had four more missing child cases to solve on top of Nigel. At first, the police told the parents to keep close to the phone. Since there was a kidnapper, there was a possibility that it could’ve been a ransom case. Within a few days and no calls, the police began looking for the body, rather than the child. After a few more weeks of investigating, the police declared Nigel a cold case, and told Monty and Katherine to assume the worst.
To make matters worse, Benedict’s mansion had burned down the night after Abby and the others went missing. No trace of the man’s body was found in the ruins, but Monty’s hopes weren’t high. While he had never been particularly close to his younger brother, he couldn’t handle losing him, too. More rumors of the “shadowed man” and his involvement surfaced, but Monty didn’t pay much attention to them.
The car ride home from the police station went on for what felt like an eternity. Katherine remained silent with her head held low while Monty kept his eyes on the road. Neither of them spoke a word as they entered their silent home.
He looked over at a pile of newspapers on his doorstep. Not one issue of the paper held any information about what to do when your child was abducted…
Then Monty looked up. The large tree fort above their house cast a shadow over the married couple, as if it were trying to protect them. And if they knew what would await them all in the coming days, they were going to need it.
On his way upstairs, Monty peered into in Nigel’s room, looking around at his possessions. A blue Rainbow Monkey from when he was little, a model kit on his desk that would remain unfinished, his telescope and a large number of other items. What caught Monty’s eye was an old family photo. It had been taken on their first vacation to Hap-Happy Land as a family. Back when Nigel still had his hair and was sitting on Monty’s shoulder’s looking like he was having the time of his life…what happened? There was a distinct possibility that it would be now and forever unknown.
“What happened, Nigel-Old-Bean? I was only trying to be your friend…” Monty Uno looked down at the floor as he sat down in what was once his son’s bedroom. He would often do so in his spare time when he wasn’t occupied with his job as a band director at one of the local schools. He read the “Do’s and Don'ts” section of the newspaper religiously, he’d take Nigel out fishing with him, he’d done everything is his power to try and be a better father to Nigel than Pappy was with him…
But it wasn’t enough.
