Pycnanthemum species, though idk which one. Several are possible, and they look fairly similar to me. All are called "mountain mint", though, and they are minty! This big girl was nearly as tall as me, and attracting lots of pollinators.

So many bees!

Falls of Hills Creek Scenic Area, a short detour off the Highland Scenic Highway in the Monongahela National Forest. The scenic area includes three beautiful waterfalls on Hills Creek, the lowest of which (top photo) is the second highest waterfall in West Virginia.
From top: the lower falls, which is 63 feet high; the middle falls, which is 45 feet high; great rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum) in bloom; a ravine hillside overspilling with ferns, hairy wood mint (Blephilia hirsuta), and wild hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens); a gorgeous hairy wood mint, whose stacked, fragrant flower garlands lead to its other common name - hairy pagoda plant.

hmmmmmm thinking abt mountains mouth...
mountain whose primary sense is taste. mountain who puts anything and everything in his mouth. uses it like a third hand. hold things. eats unfamiliar plants to identify them/see if they're poisonous. tastes any spoon held out to him without ever asking what it is. sticks his tongue out a little when he drinks anything. opens packages with his teeth. runs his tongue over long fangs when he's lost in thought.
