PJO: Things I Wish The TV Show Didn't Change/Included From The Books (spoilers)
let me start off by saying any hate to the casting/actors will be blocked on sight. the cast did amazing and i won't tolerate hate towards them
mild spoilers: now that that's outta the way...
mentioning percy having nectar/ambrosia when he woke up and it reminding him of his mum's cookies. but i get that it's hard to convey it in the show w/o narration
it would've been cool if they showed seymour the leopard too
showing how dangerous/powerful Mr D. was like they did in the books cause grover didn't have as much of a healthy fear/respect for Mr D
why tf was annabeth the athena cabin leader 😭 she was supposed to be one of the younger campers and becoming a cabin leader was meant for older campers or when the current leader died or was injured (like when will's older siblings died in the battle of manhattan and he went from the youngest to the oldest and therefore cabin leader)
i wish they showed percy being in the water when he fought clarisse and her friends cause in the books it was why he was suddenly able to overpower them when he had just learnt how to use a sword
the scene where the campers knelt when poseidon claimed him (feat. clarisse reluctantly kneeing)
changing "a kid/child of the Big Three" to "a forbidden kid/child"
the hermes cabin was not nearly crowded/messy enough
major spoilers ahead:
I'm hoping they'll show more named characters who died in the later books (e.g lee fletcher, michael yew, etc) but it's still the first two episodes and only the first season so i still have hope
im begging on my knees for them to drop hints about the traitor and show silena beauregard's relationship with clarisse so we care about her more
edit: i took out the part complaining about gabe not being abusive enough. he checks her phone without asking and spends her hard earned money for stupid things and needed his "okay" for her to go to montouk with percy. also i forgot that later percy sees him try to hit sally
that's all i can think of atm but I'll probably add more then they pop into my head. in the meantime here's the list of things i love about the show so far:

Shaun Cassidy in a post "Hardy Boys" detective story!
These are from a "Murder, She Wrote" episode.
In it, rather than appear, Jessica Fletcher oulines her latest story to the audience and we see the story unfold on screen. (A way to give Angela Lansbury a break from shooting schedules)
It's "Murder in a Minor Key", intended as a backdoor pilot for a series about a student lawyer played by former 70's Hardy Boy...
Tumblr media
Now all grown up and still cute as a button and, after years of sporting the latests 70's designs, now wearing the very 80'siest styles!
From "Just one of the guys" sweatshirt and (very tight) jeans
Tumblr media
To "My first grown up suit"
Tumblr media
And "Yuppie-ing his little best"
Tumblr media
And this which is just... "Woof!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I mean... good heavens!)
Tumblr media
(Oh and that is Rene Auberjonois also guest starring)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sure he's making very clever former-Hardy Boy deductions to solve the case here, but if he looked at me like that, I'd probably confess to anything up to and including the Lindburgh kidnapping.
Oh and a couple of bonus photos with the "there to make him look brainy" specs which must have inspired a young Michael Shanks
Tumblr media
He's back to the sweatshirt and jeans but "Gosh!" he makes it work!
Tumblr media
Alas, no series followed, but maybe that;'s just as well as if he'd been making a series, young Mr Cassidy might not have been able to create and produce the likes of "American Gothic" or "Invasion"

Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes - Number 7
Welcome to A Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes! During this month-long event, I’ll be counting my Top 31 Favorite Fictional Detectives, from movies, television, literature, video games, and more!
SLEUTH-OF-THE-DAY’S QUOTE: “Now, I may be wrong…but frankly, I doubt it.”
Number 7 is…Jessica Fletcher, from Murder, She Wrote.
Tumblr media
I had a tough time deciding between Jessica Fletcher and our previous pick, Columbo. Both are from classic detective programs, and each show had a remarkably long lifespan (incidentally, both ended the same year, 2003). However, while I love the twist formula of Columbo, I personally always liked “Murder, She Wrote” a little more. I blame this on two primary facts: one of them is the simple fact that I’m a sucker for an old-fashioned “Whodunnit” mystery, of a more traditional sort. The other is summed up in two words: Angela Lansbury.
Angela Lansbury – may she rest in peace – was, is, and always has been one of my favorite actresses. She was one of those ubiquitous types of performers where it’s hard to say where people would know here best from: for some, she may be recognized most chiefly for her work in musical theatre, with shows like “Mame,” “Gypsy,” and “Sweeney Todd.” Others may know her for her connections to Disney films, like “Beauty and the Beast” or “Bedknobs and Broomsticks.” Still others may know her for any of a variety of other shows and parts some may call more “serious,” such as the villain of “The Manchurian Candidate.” And of course, for some, there’s “Murder, She Wrote,” where Lansbury – from 1984 to 2003 – played the marvelous Jessica Fletcher, easily my favorite female detective character in all of fiction.
Jessica can best be described as a sort of combination of Ellery Queen and Miss Marple. She’s a mystery writer who lives in a quaint little town – the fictional seaside village of Cabot Cove – and uses her experience writing detective work to help her solve crimes. While she finds plenty of cases in her hometown, research for her books (along with past experiences and jobs, such as working as a teacher) has brought Jessica all over the globe, and she has many friends and connections as a result of her travels. In a typical “Murder, She Wrote” episode, Jessica will find that one of these connections is under suspicion for murder. However, for one reason or another – sometimes simple faith in her friends, other times for more practical and logical reasons – Jessica refuses to believe they are responsible. When the police dismiss Mrs. Fletcher, she takes matters into her own hands and eventually solves the case and clears her friend’s name.
Mrs. Fletcher’s sheer determination and confidence are probably her most noteworthy traits as an amateur sleuth. Once she feels she’s right about something, nine times out of ten (at least), she typically is, and she won’t allow anyone to tell her differently or treat her as inferior for any reason. Her personality is fun, too, of course: she is in some ways a very soft, almost maternal figure, but she also has a sharp wit and a fine amount of sass in her soul. However, what I personally find most interesting about Jessica Fletcher is her attitude towards crime itself. I’d argue she is probably one of the most empathetic detectives out there.
Most of the time when Fletcher solves a case…she’s sad about it. There’s almost always this sense of pity and sympathy towards the ones she helps take down, even when they try to kill her, themselves, in turn. When she isn’t sad, she’s angry; this is most typical when the killers are people she knows well. She recognizes that murderers are just as human as the ones whose lives they destroy. Many of the victims in the show were unlikeable people, and while Jessica can’t agree with the ones who took them out – especially since they often endangered people close to her – there’s a sense she often feels sorry for them. In her mind, they aren’t necessarily bad people, simply people who made bad choices. So she doesn’t hate them; mostly, she seems to feel disappointed in them.
The series gave Lansbury a lot of room to flex her acting chops, in a lot of different ways. As the nominal star of the show, she had a lot of input on the content of episodes, and Jessica was not the only character she played in the show. There was also Jessica’s flamboyant cousin, Emma, a recurring figure who even took over for Jessica in one story. It’s hard to imagine anybody else now in the role, and I would argue it’s the actress, as much as the character herself, who makes this series so enjoyable to watch.
Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 6!
CLUE: “I did not know the bank was being robbed because I was engaged in my sworn duty as a police officer.”

Ernestine Wade
Tumblr media
By Life Magazine via Google Images-Photographer Loomis Dean., Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?curid=28885998
Ernestine Wade (August 7, 1906 – April 15, 1983) was an American actress. She was best known for playing the role of Sapphire Stevens on both the radio and TV versions of The Amos 'n' Andy Show.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Wade was trained as a singer and organist. Her family had a strong connection to the theater. Her mother, Hazel Wade, worked in vaudeville as a performer, while her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Johnson, worked for the Lincoln Theater in Baltimore, Maryland.
Ernestine grew up in Los Angeles and started her acting career at age four. In 1935, Ernestine was a member of the Four Hot Chocolates singing group. She appeared in bit parts in films and did the voice performance of a butterfly in the 1946 Walt Disney production Song of the South. Wade was a member of the choir organized by actress-singer Anne Brown for the filming of the George Gershwin biographical film Rhapsody in Blue (1945) and appeared in the film as one of the "Catfish Row" residents in the Porgy and Bess segment. She enjoyed the highest level of prominence on Amos 'n Andy by playing the shrewish, demanding and manipulative wife of George "Kingfish" Stevens. Wade, Johnny Lee, and Lillian Randolph, Amanda Randolph, Jester Hairston, Roy Glenn (and several others) were among the Amos 'n' Andy radio cast members to also appear in the TV series.
Ernestine began playing Sapphire Stevens in 1939, but originally came to the Amos 'n' Andy radio show in the role of Valada Green, a lady who believed she had married Andy. In her interview that is part of the documentary Amos 'n' Andy: Anatomy of a Controversy, Wade related how she got the job with the radio show. Initially there for a singing role, she was asked if she could "do lines". When the answer was yes, she was first asked to say "I do" and then to scream; the scream got her the role of Valada Green. Ernestine also played the radio roles of The Widow Armbruster, Sara Fletcher, and Mrs. Van Porter.
In a 1979 interview, Ernestine related that she would often be stopped by strangers who recognized her from the television show, saying "I know who you are and I want to ask you, is that your real husband?" At her home, she had framed signed photos from the members of the Amos 'n' Andy television show cast. Tim Moore, her TV husband, wrote the following on his photo: "My Best Wishes to My Darling Battle Ax from the Kingfish Tim Moore".
Wade defended her character against criticism of being a negative stereotype of African American women. In a 1973 interview, she stated "I know there were those who were offended by it, but I still have people stop me on the street to tell me how much they enjoyed it. And many of those people are black members of the NAACP." The documentary Amos 'n' Andy: Anatomy of a Controversy covered the history of the radio and television shows as well as interviews with surviving cast members. Ernestine was among them, and she continued her defense of the show and those with roles in it. She believed that the roles she and her colleagues played made it possible for African-American actors who came later to be cast in a wider variety of roles. She also considered the early typecast roles, where women most often were cast as maids, not to be damaging, seeing them in the sense of someone being either given the role of the hero or the part of the villain.
In later years, she continued as an actress, doing more voice work for radio and cartoons. After Amos 'n' Andy, Wade did voice work in television and radio commercials. Ernestine also did office work and played the organ.
She also appeared in a 1967 episode of TV's Family Affair as a maid working for a stage actress played by Joan Blondell.
Ernestine Wade is buried in Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. Because she had no headstone, the West Adams Heritage Association marked her grave with a plaque

Sibling Bonding
Summary: It takes Phineas almost no time to click with Ferb, even before their parents get married.  Ferb connects with Phineas just as quickly.  Ferb and Candace, on the other hand, both need a little bit longer to get each other.
Phineas decided very quickly that he liked the Fletchers.  Mom’s boyfriend Mr. Fletcher had very specific interests, and though they could be a little boring to listen to sometimes, it made him really happy when someone did, and him being happy made Mom happy.  Plus, Mr. Fletcher was a really good listener and always let Phineas talk about his latest ideas, and Phineas wanted to return the favor as best he could.  Even more than Mr. Fletcher, though, Phineas liked his son.
Ferb was super fun to play with, and though he didn’t like talking much, he’d said he loved listening to Phineas’ ideas and adding on his own in his head.  He even had a knack for bringing them to life, which made it so much more fun for both of them.  Phineas liked playing with him better than almost anyone else in his whole life— almost.  Because while Ferb was amazing, there was one thing that bothered Phineas about him, and that was that he didn’t like Phineas’ bestest closest most wonderful friend in the whole wide world, who also happened to be his sister.  Mom had tried to explain it to him— Ferb didn’t like talking, which Phineas knew, and while Phineas talked a lot, he tended to do it in a way that Ferb didn’t mind so much.
Candace, on the other hand, was loud.
And Phineas knew that, sort of.  It had never bothered him, but he could understand why it would bother Ferb.  But that didn’t solve their problem, being that if Ferb didn’t like Phineas’ bestest closest most wonderful friend in the whole wide world, that was something he wasn’t sure he could get past.
So obviously, he had to explain to Ferb why Candace was so amazing.
“She’s really super determined when she wants something,” Phineas said to Ferb, who was listening intently as they both sat under the tree in Phineas’ backyard.  “And she doesn’t stop until she gets it.  And she makes me laugh really hard, and she still plays with me even though she has older cool friends at her school that like most of the stuff she likes more than me.”
Ferb nodded, seeming like he was thinking it over.  “I don’t not like her,” he said after a second.  “I just wish she wouldn’t talk so loud.”
“But that’s a problem,” Phineas said, leaning forward so Ferb could see he was serious about this.  “Because I really like you.  But if your Dad is going to marry my Mom so you can move in with us so we can play together all the time and have it be super awesome, you’re going to have to deal with Candace being loud sometimes.”
Ferb’s eyebrows furrowed as he thought this over, nodding again in agreement.
“How about this,” Phineas said.  “Sometimes when I need Candace to listen to me I have to let her finish her thought first or she won’t have space for it, and sometimes she does that for me too.  So what if when you know you’re not gonna be able to handle Candace being loud I go let her talk a bunch first and then I can tell you when she’s done so we can ask her to be quiet and she won’t mind so much?”
Ferb thought about this for another moment.  “That sounds like a lot of work for you,” he said after a second.
“Eh, it’s okay,” Phineas said with a shrug.  “I mean, I’d be doing it anyway.  This way I can just let you know when it’s quieter so then we can all have fun!”
Ferb started to smile at that, and then he nodded, seeming satisfied with that solution.  He should be, it was a good one.
So next time Mom told Phineas and Candace that Ferb and Mr. Fletcher were coming over, Phineas ran to Candace’s room before they got there and asked her what episode of Ducky Momo she’d watched most recently, because he’d missed it and needed to catch up.
He didn’t actually like Ducky Momo too much, but Candace liked it, and he liked Candace.  She was his bestest closest most wonderful friend in the whole wide world, after all.  Plus, when Phineas pointed out that she could talk to her friends about Ducky Momo, Candace just got quiet and looked down at her feet and said something about it being embarrassing.  Phineas didn’t quite get that part, because they were her friends, and obviously they’d love her no matter what.  Phineas didn’t like Ducky Momo, after all, but he loved hearing Candace talk about it because it made her really happy.  But Candace insisted, so for now it was their secret.
But Phineas must have misjudged the time it would take Ferb and Mr. Fletcher to get there, because a knock on the door to Candace’s room came as she was in the middle of explaining Ducky Momo’s quest for the Butterberry Bridge, and Phineas turned to see Ferb there.  He didn’t look bothered by Candace’s loud talking and gestures, so he must have had more space for it that day.
Candace, however, instantly stopped talking, and ducked her face down into her shirt.  “Phineas,” she whined.  “Why didn’t you tell me Ferb was coming?”
“I was trying to let you talk before he got here,” Phineas explained, climbing up from his spot sitting on Candace’s bed.  “Because sometimes you can be a little loud, and it can make Ferb uncomfortable.  But I didn’t want to tell you to just stop because you usually just get loud when you’re excited or upset, and it’s not fair to ask you to stop then.”
But Candace just glared at him.  “But I didn’t want to tell him!” she snapped.
Phineas blinked.  “Why not?”
“Because he’s not— he’s not you!” Candace exclaimed, looking away again and shifting uncomfortably.  “He doesn’t get it, and he’s not my brother!”
Phineas tipped his head in confusion, looking back at Ferb, who looked confused right back.  “But he’s gonna be, right?” Phineas asked.
“What are you talking about?” Candace asked, crossing her arms and looking down.
“When Mom and Mr. Fletcher get married,” Phineas said.  “And Mr. Fletcher becomes Dad.  That would make Ferb our brother, right?”
“No!” Candace snapped, though she didn’t really look mad, just upset and uncomfortable.  “Ferb isn’t like you!”
“Well yeah,” Phineas agreed.  “He doesn’t like talking as much.  But he’s still super awesome and fun!  You’d like him too if you got to know him!”
“Phineas,” Candace hissed, glaring at him.  “Only you get to know about Ducky Momo stuff!”
“Why?”
“Because— because—” Candace looked away and hid her head in her hands.  “Because you’re the only one who wouldn’t laugh at me,” she grumbled.
“I like weird things too,” Ferb said, taking a step forward.  “A lot of other people don’t get it.”  He smiled just a little at Phineas, who beamed back.  “Phineas does, though.  And he’s never mean about it.  I like him a lot.”
Ferb turned to look back at Candace, and Candace turned hesitantly to look at him too.
“I wouldn’t laugh at you,” Ferb said.  “I know what that feels like.  I don’t like it, so I wouldn’t do it to you.”
Candace turned to face them both, not saying anything for a minute.  Finally, though, she took a slow step towards Ferb.  “Do you want to watch the episode Phineas missed with him and me?” she asked finally.  She thought for a second.  “We can turn the volume down if you want.”
Ferb smiled and nodded, and Phineas bounced happily in place.
“Yay!” he called.  “Let’s go let’s go!”
Candace finally started to smile, and she followed both of them out of the room and down the stairs towards the living room.  Mom came into the room to set up the TV so they could all watch Ducky Momo, and Candace started to explain to Ferb all of the parts he hadn’t seen and everything he’d need to know before hand.
And as Ferb leaned forward to listen, clearly paying close attention and taking it all as seriously as Candace was, Phineas decided maybe it was time he had two bestest closest most wonderful friends in the whole wide world.

TESTIMONIAL
"Hot and a little bit scary, just like all southern women. Also very smart and maternal. In addition to having a son, there were a few really lovely episodes with kids in them where she takes care of them and I love it."
"Two reasons: 1) the French subtitle of the book is literally "The Tribulations of a MILF" and 2) the book/series revolves around Eve's relation to that word (how she gets called that, how she gets into seeing MILF porn as a result, how this leads to her fantasizing about exploring her sexuality (and a greater appreciation for women in general), immediately after she (a single mom) becomes an empty nester and does not know what to do with her life)."

Yeah. Episode 3 time. If you haven't heard the first 2 episodes of our garbage podcast where a merry band of feral hillbillies play Delta Green, check it out here.
In an episode where you could've saved them, Mr. Police, I gave you all the clues, the freeloaders (sans a wizard) return to continue their investigation into the mysteries of the town of Perdition, Mississippi.  Things get downright spooky as we spend entirely too long talking about nonsense instead of playing the game, plumb the depths of an exploded Nazi, go on a boat trip, find further hints of something unspeakable, and learn an important lesson about the ways that hurting others will also hurt us.  Also, Natalie performs verbal gymnastics to find ways to say "It looks and feels like semen" without using the word semen.
Featuring: alice Quantum (she) as THE WIZARD CALIBAN Chris (he) as AGENT WILLIAM MONTGOMERY Travis (he) as AGENT HARRIS FLETCHER Mahlon (he) as AGENT WILLIAM "BILLY" BONES III and award-winning speculative fiction author Natalie H. Ironside (she) as EVERYBODY ELSE
Huge thanks to Jig to a Milestone for the use of our theme song A Bottle of the Best off of their album The Adventures of Dulcimer Girl and Captain Tinwhistle

In the wee hours of the morning following the Rusty Pick Grand Opening, a poker game is interrupted from a threat from above. As Chad and Roper race against time as ZAX gains access to a larger network, Commander Johns fights for his life inside the Nuclear Winter Simulation in Vault 51. The sun is setting and before this final match is through, winning will come at a great cost.
These episodes are in loving memory to long time Bethesda Game Studios developer Ferret Baudoin, who recorded his lines prior to his untimely passing. His family has graciously allowed us to use them posthumously and it is fitting that in these episodes he will save the day, one last time.
The remainder of our season ad revenue from these episodes will be benefiting the global crisis and humanitarian work of Project Hope. Please support our fundraiser: https://donate.tiltify.com/+fallout-for-hope-ukrainerelief/chad-a-fallout-76-story-podcast
