POETRY MONTH Day 29: Happy Endings
A poem about the ending I think Dean and Cas deserved, even if they didn’t have the right language to convey it.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 6: ‘You Never Let me Say It Back’
When I first saw the prompt I instantly thought of Cas’ love confession and how Dean obviously didn’t get to say I love you back. He would be angry as all hell at Cas because of it. However in writing it I realised Cas wasn’t really the person Dean would be angry at. He’d be mad at himself for holding it back but then would also feel justified for doing so because in the end, Cas did die because he loved Dean.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 5: Family (derogatory)
When it comes to John and Dean’s relationship, it’s all about reading between the lines.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 19: Gender
You can’t give me a prompt like ‘gender’ and expect me not to address Dean’s issues with toxic masculinity and internalised homophobia. So, here you go.

POETRY MONTH Day 27: Bodies
A poem for early season Castiel, reflecting on what it’s like to have a body as an angel (Erdrich Horror) the size of the Chrysler building while toying with religious imagery. I also thought it would be interesting to explore the idea of Dean almost instantly ‘renaming’ Castiel- ‘Cas’ as the suffix ‘iel’ generally means ‘of God’. So one of the first things Dean did was strip him of his holiness, and Cas, angel of the lord, more or less rolled with it.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 16: Weapons
I tried to play with the space a little bit today and attempted to make each paragraph resemble a gun. It only vaguely worked, but an attempt was made.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 2: Minor/ Underrated Character
I decided to write a poem themed around my favourite ‘Biker Barbie,’ Claire. As I wrote I found it turned more into an exploration of her and Castiel’s relationship. It’s messy, complicated and contradictory. I wish it was explored more in the show.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 9: Goodbyes
A poem that explores Dean’s feelings after Mary’s first death, when he was just a kid and how it’s carried on into his adulthood- in other words, abandonment issues galore.

POETRY MONTH Day 21: Home
A poem about the post-cannon, good ending where Dean, Cas and toddler Jack move into a fixer-upper with a garden by a river, because I wanted to write something somewhat fluffy for once, and it’s what they deserve.

SPN POETRY MONTH 14:  Women of Supernatural
There are so many amazing woman to pick from, I was just in a Rowena mood.

POETRY MONTH Day 26: Dirt
In rare moments of clarity I remember that the cannon ending of the show finishes with both Cas and Dean dying and not getting their happy ending.  I suppose this poem is a little bit of my frustration spilling out onto the page.

POETRY MONTH Day 25: Joy
Look, I think Dean and Cas deserve nice things, but after years of telling themselves they don’t, I think happiness wouldn’t always come so easily.

POETRY MONTH Day 23: Falling
I saw ‘blackout poetry’ on the list of possible poetry forms and figured I hadn’t seen anyone make one yet (though someone might have and I missed it). So, I made an attempt. This poem has been spliced from Joseph Heller’s Catch 22. It was taken from the first two pages + a small exert from Chapter 25 ‘The Chaplin’. I’m really going back and forth on whether or not I enjoy the final product, but at least I tried something new. It’s the best I could cobble together.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 13: Hell / Demons
A poem exploring Dean’s trauma post-Hell, because several decades of torment don’t go away overnight and recover often isn’t a straight line.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 11: Monster
An introspective look at early seasons Sam and the rare moments when supernatural explored the nuances of not all ‘monsters’ being ‘monsters’- only for it to be forgotten in the next episode.

SPN POETRY MONTH Day 10: Orpheus and Eurydice
For this poem I focused more on the general ‘vibe’ of classic tragedies as apposed to a 1 to 1 comparison of Orpheus and Eurydice, but the parallels are obviously there.
