In 2022 I wrote an op-ed for NBC News Think about leg hair, of all things. The piece detailed a monthlong experiment during which I stopped shaving. Aside from one paragraph about bodily autonomy and Roe v. Wade, I thought it was a mild article. Boring, even.
The internet disagreed. Within an hour of publication, I started getting angry, all-caps emails. Then it started on Twitter. I was called everything from stupid and self-absorbed to a Sasquatch. I was accused of hating men and pressuring women.
The deluge lasted nearly two weeks. By the end of it, I had dozens of nasty emails, nearly a thousand social media notifications, and zero idea how to handle what I’d experienced.
Unfortunately, these instances of online harassment are becoming more common. In 2021, the Pew Research Center reported that 41 percent of US adults had experienced online harassment; the Anti-Defamation League reported an increase to 52 percent in 2023. Public and semipublic figures are especially at risk, as noted by recent studies on American journalists, Zimbabwean journalists, and female members of parliament in Sweden.
But the truth is, on social media anyone with an account can experience harassment. Here’s what to do if it happens to you.
Document Everything
Knee-deep in hate mail, I reached out to a former thesis adviser who’d written op-eds. How had he handled the trolls?
His reply: Document everything. If you have to report the harassment to a social platform or to law enforcement, you will need a body of evidence that proves the harassment.
Save the nasty emails in a special folder, either manually or by using keywords to filter and route all of the relevant mail automatically.
On social media, screenshot what people say. Doing this gives you lasting digital proof, which is important if the trolling comments disappear later on, either because the trolls deleted them or because someone reported the comments, which led to them being removed. Save all of these screenshots in a folder that can easily be shared with anyone investigating your harassment.
Documenting harassment is common advice, featured in resources ranging from writing-specific organizations like PEN America to wider organizations like the University of Chicago and the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
Don’t Respond
Another common piece of advice is “don’t feed the trolls.” In theory, if you don’t react to harassment, the trolls get bored and leave. Some have argued that this advice has failed us, as it puts the onus on the victim to stop the cyberbullying; it suggests that it’s not the trolls who need to stop but rather the victim who needs to turn the other cheek.
This is a fair critique; social media platforms should build better moderation systems and restrict users who breach standards on harassment. Ideally, events like the 2024 child safety hearing before US Congress will lead to changes that make the internet safer for everyone. In a perfect world, the onus is on Big Tech.
But internet safety is a work in progress, and in the meantime it’s on us to decide how we want to respond. Many of the accounts spamming me were obvious trolls. They had incendiary usernames and profile pictures. Looking at their comments, which were antagonistic at best, I knew I wouldn’t change their minds by responding. Nothing I could write would make them consider my point of view.
So I followed the American Psychological Association’s advice and let the storm pass. I logged off social media and routed the nasty emails into a special folder, out of sight. I spent my energy on things I enjoyed instead, no trolls involved.
Or Maybe Do Respond
Walking away isn’t the best option for everyone. If you choose to respond, there are both indirect and direct ways to address harassment. The former could include muting threads or blocking accounts. You could also report comments or users for behaviors that breach community standards, such as hate speech, threats, and bullying (which most platforms claim to prohibit). These options may prevent the same trolls from harassing you, or another user, in the future.
If you feel safe and want to respond directly, consider counterspeech, a strategy that addresses and undermines hate by redirecting the conversation in a constructive way. Some choose to reclaim hashtags, such as the K-pop stans who in 2020 flooded the #WhiteLivesMatter hashtag with K-pop videos.
Others create larger discussions around hateful posts, typically focusing not on the troll but on the content of their argument (so, not “You’re sexist” but “Saying XYZ is problematic because …”). This is exactly what I did, some six months after my experience, when I wrote about hate mail for HuffPost, focusing on sexism and the importance of dismantling it. Reframing the conversation helped me feel less powerless.
Though organizations like the United Nations recommend counterspeech, some research has suggested that it may be ineffective: While a 2021 study on anti-Asian hate found that counterspeech discouraged hate, another study on racism and homophobia saw mixed results.
Do Something You Enjoy
Whether or not you respond, give yourself time to work through your feelings. Do something you enjoy, like going to the gym, meditating, or playing your favorite video game. Anything goes!
Social support, in particular, is important for processing your experiences. This is because one of the goals of online harassment is to make you feel isolated; intentionally enjoying time with loved ones can combat this. An older 2014 study noted that social support can come from anyone in your life, ranging from your peers to your family. More recently, a 2020 study listed the myriad benefits of social support for those experiencing bullying, including increased confidence and decreased anxiety.
So text your friends and coworkers. Make dinner plans with family. Rant to your partner—or ask for a distraction. Any and all of these can help you feel less alone. You can also seek professional advice via a therapist or a cyberbullying hotline.
If you decide to take an extended break from the internet, ask a friend you trust to keep an eye on your social accounts. They can continue to take screenshots of new harassment and notify you if the frequency of incidents increases.
If the Harassment Escalates
If rude comments turn into stalking, hacking, doxing, or death threats, it’s time to contact the authorities and get legal assistance. Continue to document everything; you’ll want a body of proof to ensure you’re taken seriously. If you’re in immediate danger, call emergency services.
Practicing good cyber hygiene can help you protect your information. To deter hackers, use strong passwords, which are longer than 16 characters and include numbers and special characters. Don’t reuse passwords, and set up multifactor authentication to ensure that you’re notified if someone tries to log in to your account.
To deter doxing, stalking, and further harassment, adjust your privacy settings on social media. If possible, set your accounts to private until the storm passes. Also, depending on the platform, you should be able to limit the ability to reply to your posts so that only people you follow can republish your posts or leave comments. You can also just disallow comments entirely. If you have both professional and personal accounts, keep them separate so that work-related harassment is less likely to follow you home.
You may want to limit who can see your location data on social media, since many platforms tag every post with geolocation data unless you opt out. This is usually something you can turn off in your profiles’ privacy settings. Additionally, browser extensions like Privacy Party can help you keep your privacy settings on social media up to date automatically, so you don't have to think about it.
If things get so bad that you feel it's safest to minimize or erase your digital footprint, paid services like Delete Me can remove identifying information like your address, phone number, and social media activity from hundreds of online databases and data brokers. This makes it much harder for people to uncover this information in web searches. Services like Tweet Delete can automatically delete years worth of social media posts, replies, and likes—either wholesale or within a specific range—from your accounts.
Online harassment can be isolating and terrifying, but with a plan, you’ll be prepared to respond—and to mitigate its impacts on your life.

Idk there is one thing I will say, her "quiet this entire week" means one of two things:
Shes finally listening to someone and WME signed her with some very strict parameters based of the rumor mill of her and sunshine.
She wants something from Charles and shes sending Harry over with the expectation that he gets its. And at this point the only thing that could be is money. She doesn't want to come back as a working royal, nor does she want to live in the UK but she defintiely wants money to better themselves financially.
All this to say, I think her moves over the next few weeks are: a pap stroll with the children next week. The announced moved into LA because she's meeting with her team so frequently (and WME) that it only makes sense. Followed by the finale, either season 2 of the podcast or a large-ish project annoucement that is separate from Harry.
She hired WME specially with the intent to separate herself from Harry, to bring in her fair share of the $$. (she leaked this to page six or harry did). Because she's stay farr away from whatever he's put out since the book.
I don't think the royals are negotiating at this point. I think Harry got the deal he got in 2020, and that was that. It's just that little details about the deal (like the real Frogmore arrangement looking more like a tenancy-at-will than a long-term lease and such) were not fully disclosed at the time. I doubt they are getting anything else out of the family.
And I'm not sure what they are getting out of WME either. The Variety leak said there would be no acting deals and it stressed their love story and rom coms. That doesn't sound particularly promising. It's not like they were having trouble pitching projects before. They were getting meetings. The problem was that the projects were underwhelming and poorly executed. WME is not going to help with that.
But Meghan likes big brands. Her MO is to attach herself to a big brand (Northwestern, NBC, Soho House, the royals, Netflix, Spotify, Gloria Steinem, Oprah) and hope it elevates her. However, she's running out of big brands to latch onto.

I should have turned it off before ...
I just watched an NBC Special Report that said ...
"Rudy Guiliani and the Republicans were digging up dirt on Biden's Ukrainian dealings so that they could try to impeach him in retaliation for impeaching Trump ... but, NBC and the Democrats hired an "expert" to search and examine anything they could find ... he stated that he found no evidence of criminal activity whatsoever in Biden's dealings ..."
... I honestly feel like throwing up ...

Novels have been written about what just happened at NBC News.  One novelist, John le Carré, made a whole career telling stories that the NBC imbroglio mimics.  The FBI and CIA both maintain schools to train new employees in how to avoid what NBC just did.  If you don’t graduate with good grades and a strong recommendation, you don’t get hired.
One of the major jobs of any intelligence agency is to place spies in the top ranks of the enemy’s government, especially of its intelligence agencies.  The Soviets placed the famed Cambridge quartet of Philby, Burgess, Maclean and Blunt in the upper reaches of British intelligence.  Blunt even penetrated Buckingham Palace as Surveyor of the Queens Pictures.
Why is this a principal goal of intelligence agencies?  So their spies can get close to enemy leaders and report back on the enemy’s plans and intentions.
What did NBC News do last week?  They lifted a corner of the corporate tent and let a spy inside.  Who’s the spy?  Ronna Romney McDaniel, former Chair of the Republican National Committee, was hired as a paid contributor to the network, earning a reported $300,000 per year salary.
NBC is paying a spy for the Republican Party to come into 30 Rock and report back to Donald Trump, who owns the party of which she was nominally the chair.  She was in that job for all four years of Trump’s presidency.  She ran the RNC during the three years Trump has spent denying that he lost the election of 2020.  She agreed with him that the election was stolen.  It was a bedrock principle of the Republican Party from the day the Associated Press called the election for Joe Biden in 2020.  She was chair of the Republican Party while the entire infrastructure of the party was mobilized to help Trump attempt to overturn the election results.
According to a report on, yes, MSNBC tonight, she participated in the plot in Michigan to create a fake slate of electors intended to replace the real electors won by Joe Biden.  She called a Michigan Republican Party official, with Trump joining in on the call, and encouraged him to get Republican officials in Michigan to refuse to certify the presidential election in the state.  Her job title and the name of the organization she ran, the Republican National Committee, appears in the federal indictment of Trump for attempting to overturn the 2020 election.
Ronna McDaniel was in effect a co-conspirator in Trump’s effort to stay in power after he lost the election in 2020.  She has been either silent or dismissive of the insurrection Trump fomented on Jan. 6, 2021 when he whipped up his crowd on the Ellipse and sent them to attack the Capitol building and delay the certification of the election he had lost.  From 2021 until her departure from the Republican National Committee, McDaniel has been a part of Trump’s campaign of gaslighting about the election, casting doubt on its legitimacy, agreeing with him that it was “stolen” from him and “rigged” against him.  For the last three years, she has raised money to help him run his campaign for president.  Since his several indictments, she has steered money donated to the Republican Party to help pay his legal bills.  She has, effectively speaking, been an active member of his criminal defense team.
Trump has claimed in his defense against the charges brought by the Special Counsel that all of his actions after he lost the election in November of 2020 were part of his presidential duties to ensure the election was “free and fair.”  Ronna McDaniel has agreed with and supported this line of defense.  Trump’s attempts to put up slates of fake electors are not the “duties” of a President of the United States.  They are crimes, and Ronna McDaniel was there when they were committed.  She knows that Trump’s claims are lies, and yet she has repeated them and helped to spread them since November of 2020.
And there is this:  Ronna McDaniel has been a key part of the campaign of the Republican Party to denounce and condemn the news media as “enemies of the people,” in Trump’s notorious words.  She has called reports on Trump’s attempts to overturn the election “lies.”  She has even denounced NBC News and MSNBC.
It's all of a piece, and it started at the top with Trump and the Republican Party.  Network reporters have faced repeated threats from right-wing websites and podcasters calling them “traitors.”  It's not just rhetoric.  There are right-wing lunatics out there who have acted on such threats, such as the members of the Michigan militia who were arrested for conspiring to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.  MSNBC had Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes on the Rachel Maddow show tonight to discuss right wing disruptions occurring around the state at city council and county board of supervisors meetings.  At the end of her interview, Maddow expressed regret that the state of Arizona has had to supply Fontes with an armed bodyguard who accompanies him everywhere he goes because of threats on his life.  Other public officials around the country, especially those with jobs involving elections, have had to get protection for their offices and some have been provided with bodyguards.
The Republican Party, during the seven years McDaniel was its chair, did not denounce the threats of violence against public officials even once.  McDaniel, while she was calling the election of 2020 “rigged” and helping Trump with his legal defense fund, had nothing to say about threats of violence against public officials.
In her appearance on Meet the Press yesterday, McDaniel tried to shift her stance on the 2020 election into reverse, admitting that Biden won the election and that he is the legitimate president.  But she refused to agree with Mitch McConnell that Trump was “practically and morally responsible” for the attack on the Capitol, telling host Kristen Welker, “I don’t think he wanted the attack on the Capitol.  I don’t hold him responsible for that.”
Welker pointed out McDaniel’s apparent change of tone about the 2020 election and asked her, “why should viewers, why should people, trust you believe what you’re saying right now?”  McDaniel responded by denying that she has changed her positions and told Welker, “I think you should trust me.”
That’s what every spy who was ever caught and put on the spot told his or her interrogators.  Don’t pay attention to the evidence.  Trust me.
MSNBC has already announced that McDaniel will not appear as a guest on any of the network’s programs.  NBC News should join them, and NBC should cancel McDaniel’s contract for cause, for lying on Meet the Press.  She is not trustworthy.  She is a spy for Donald Trump.

Special Edition Magazine Commemorates 80th Anniversary of The Black Sheep Squadron
January 4, 2024 Vintage Aviation News Articles, Press Releases 0
United Fuel Cells
Gregory ‘Pappy’ Boyington was a Marine Corps fighter pilot and the commanding officer of the VMF-214 Black Sheep Squadron in the Pacific during World War II. Boyington was a leading flying ace, Prisoner of War, and a recipient of both the Navy Cross and Medal of Honor.

Probably one of the most famous photos Col Greg ‘Pappy’ Boyington (Photo by Mike Schneider Collection)
Boyington’s Black Sheep VMF-214 began in 1943, so this is the reason for the 80th Anniversary. VMF-214 Swashbucklers was in existence before Boyington took over the squadron number with a new group of pilots. The Swashbucklers had been in combat operations and just lost their commanding officer, and while they were out on R&R, higher command decided they needed more squadrons in the fight, right about the time that Boyington was lobbying to get a squadron. So, on paper the command of VMF-214 was given to Boyington, he collected from the the replacement pool a nucleus of pilots and also added new pilots to start their “VMF-214, and they came up with a new moniker, the Black Sheep.
The U.S. Marine Corps’ Black Sheep squadron has served the nation continuously for 80 years. A new special edition magazine commemorates the milestone and their legacy.
“The WWII Black Sheep were among the most effective combat units and their achievements made them legendary,” said Kevin Gonzalez, the magazine’s creator. “An ace is a military aviator credited with downing five or more enemy aircraft during aerial combat, and there were nine Black Sheep pilots who became aces.”

Boyington – Black Sheep Leader is a special edition magazine that features historical articles, archival photographs, and original graphic novel art. A special art section includes a depiction of Pappy’s last dogfight, when he and his wingman Captain George Ashmun, were both shot down during a strike mission over Rabaul. Boyington survived the dogfight and was captured at sea by the crew of a Japanese submarine. He was never officially reported as a prisoner by the Japanese and was secretly held prisoner for 30 months. Eventually, he found his path to military aviation through an aviation cadet program, which then led to the Marine Corps Reserve in 1937 and flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
Boyington was allowed to leave the Marines to join the American Volunteer Group, also known as the Flying Tigers, where he gained combat experience flying against the Japanese. After the U.S. entered WWII, he returned rejoin to the USMC. He wrote about his experiences in his best-selling book BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP, published in 1958, which later became the basis for a popular NBC television series for two seasons in the 1970s.
Ezoic
Colonel Gregory Pappy Boyington died on Jan. 11, 1988, in Fresno, Calif., and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. In 2007, the local airport added the commemorative name Coeur d’Alene Airport/Pappy Boyington Field. In 2019, Boyington was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame.
The modern-day Black Sheep continues the squadron’s legacy. Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 214 (VMFA-214) is stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and flies the F-35 B Lightning II, the Marine Corps variant of the Joint Strike Fighter, manufactured by Lockheed Martin.
Tumblr media
On March 25, 2022, the squadron was redesignated as Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 214 (VMFA-214) as it began accepting new F-35B Lightning II aircraft from the Lockheed Martin factory in Fort Worth, Texas
“Many of the graphic artists who contributed to this project are military veterans,” said Gonzalez. “It’s exciting to see their artwork on the pages of this magazine.”
Boyington – Black Sheep Leader is a special edition magazine from the creator of the Pappy Boyington Field documentary film. More information about Boyington at the website: PappyBoyingtonField.com

.NBC Studio's June 27
"Kinda tight, huh..."
"In all the right places..." she mumbled,
"I heard that," he smirked, looking back at her as she blushed a bright red on her tawny-colored skin. Elvis was most certainly back. And she'd remind him in all the right ways that he never left.
"Five minutes left for the first taping," Midge yelled from the top of her lungs.
"Thank you, five!" Cecelia shouted back, straightening out her Mod Mini dress. Elvis couldn't help but stare at her figure in it. She was already voluptuous in the '50s, but God, did he love the gifts that motherhood took to enhance her,
"El, you're shakin again..."
"Just nerves, baby." he kissed her forehead,
"If you get nervous, look for me in the booth beside Binder." she smiled,
"Oh, it's time!"
The first show hadn't gone so smoothly. Although Elvis was comfortable and trading jokes with Scotty and everyone, Cecelia could tell in some places he was rushing from nerves, but my God, was she enjoying the view of him sweating and dancing along on the stage. and the grunts and groans and- "Wait a minute..." Cecelia mumbled to herself aloud. Either her ears and eyes were playing tricks on her, or the friction of the suit was taking its course. She knew that look. And those sounds. But she figured she'd handle that later and meet him in his dressing room.
"We'll need to add matts for the next show."
"Got it, Binder." she gave him a nod.
"Mind checking on our star."
"Don't mind at all." Cecelia left, walking towards his dressing room. She had passed Rosa, who was rekindling with Scotty, a man always after that woman's heart.
"Mr. Presley, are ya decent?" Cecelia asked, switching up her accent to mess with him.
"Depends, who's askin?"
"Ms. Dubios." she kept going,
"Ah..." he chuckled, knowing who it was. Opening the door, he had his brightest smile as he kissed Cecelia.
 "You fooled me there, honey."
"How'd you know it was me..." he glanced at her, his eyebrow doing the thing she loved so much,
"You got me there." she pulled him in for a kiss,
"God, you're sweaty..."
"I was gonna warn ya." he laughed, pulling her into the room. Cecelia blushed, sitting on the couch, watching him get undressed and out of the black suit.
"I usually charge for a show, you know." he chuckled, watching his wife roll her eyes.
"Well then, I owe you quite a bit of money for the times you've undressed in front of me, huh?" handing him his engraved robe. "Oh! Also, show number two is at 8 pm," she mentioned as he kissed her hand and took the robe,
"So I have time to take a beautiful director to lunch..."
"I can't," she sighed, "I have to make sure we get a good head count of audience members for the show, and then there's the schedule for tomorrow, and then I have to stay behind. And get any last minute papers done an-" Elvis pulled her close to him and kissed her, much like he'd do in the movies. Elvis could hear the stress in her voice, but he knew she was doing this all for him. because she loved him so much. Why? He'd never know.
"You're gonna work yourself to death if you don't take a break."
"You're one to talk." she stole another kiss from him.
"Well, at least let me help ya."
"And give you more stress? uh-uh." Cecelia shook her head, "You just sit here, look pretty, and don't worry about me," she looked at the clock, knowing she had to report back to Binder, Elvis knew she had a job to do, but he was missing his best friend, he was missing his wife,
"And another thing, sweetheart!"
"Hmm..."
"Try not to cream your pants this time..." she smirked as he looked at her with a shocked expression,
"How'd you even-"
"Elvis... I know those grunts and moans." she pulled him by the belt of his robe, "Very... Very well..." she whispered in his ear.
"I-I-I- doubt that Cece."She kissed his neck slowly. As a groan rolled from his lips,
" Damn it, Cece, you tease..."
After the show, Cecelia was sitting on the stage, sighing. She was up deep in stress, swimming in it even.
"You will make sure he sings; Here comes Santa Claus, correct..." Oh, how that man's voice made her skin crawl.
"It's his show, Parker..."
"But you are his wife... aren't you afraid that the... the.. money will run dry, and you'll be a nobody from North Carolina."
"Nope..." she kept looking over the paperwork, "I was someone before Elvis, and I'm still someone with him. Now, what do you want."
" Him to listen to me..."
"Yeah... That's not gonna happen, but good luck!" she laughed,
"You listen here. He has a reputation to uphold-"
"Elvis Aaron Presley has a reputation that you managed to diminish... " she stood up,
"I- I don't know what you mean..."
"Maybe I can spell it out for you, 1959..." she grumbled, "The year his world turned upside down." Cecelia gritted her teeth, "Cutting his hair sending him away... His mama died, and my sugarplum was never the same..." she teared up,
"But he was an all-American boy that looked-"
"He was a crying, sobbing mess who couldn't get his mama back! H-He was different after the war, lost even. Elvis wouldn't barely eat. He didn't feel like singing anymore-"
"Cause he wanted to act Cecelia!" Tom laughed,
"Cause he barely wanted to live anymore!" tears in her eyes, "You weren't there trying to ease him slowly off his pills between takes. Or-or sleepless nights when the memories got hard to face!"
"But I was there to comfort him like a father... and like a mother... more than anything you could understand." Tom smiled,
"Then you'd understand that for once in his life... He wants to do things his way again." she looked at him,
"But Singer..."
"It's either his way or Singer can take the fucking highway! GOD DAMNIT!" she screamed as she ran out of the soundstage. She and Elvis had been through hell and back together, but there was nothing she wouldn't do for him, and he felt the same for her. She just wanted to see him smile again and love what he did again.
"Hey, Cil... You're more than welcome to stop for the night."
"I think I'll stay for a bit," she heard the music playing from the locker room, "But I'll see you all tomorrow?"
"You got it, Cil."
Looking through the window, she could see Elvis playing his guitar with Scotty and Jerry and his Memphis Mafia sitting around listening. It was like Cecelia was back in 1954 on the road again, hoping from hotel to motel, playing guitar together.
"Hey, E the Mrs.'s is at the door!"
Elvis looked over as he saw her warm smile. Cecelia waved as he ushered for her to come in and join them. She shook her head no until he gave her his infamous pout,
"Glad you could make it, Mrs. Carolina." Jerry joked,
"Figured I needed the break..." Cecelia sat next to Elvis as she kissed his cheek. Elvis could see her tear-stained cheeks, but he'd ask her about that later,
"You gone play us something?"
"Oh, I couldn't. Besides, my Gretsch is in the room and-" Scotty gave her his guitar.
"Well, if you insist..." She laughed, "Uh, you remember the chords to Hey Good Lookin?" she asked,
"Last I remember, you re-recorded that song." Elvis poked fun as he started the song.
Laughter filled that room all the way into 3 in the morning, and she couldn't be happier than to see her Elvis back in action,
"So what's this? I hear about you and the colonel ..."
"It's nothing..."
"I could hear ya screamin... and you don't raise your voice unless somethin's really botherin you."
"I just wanted to defend you," she shrugged,
"Doll, you don't have to."
"No, I do... Look, I don't want you wearin yourself so thin," she held him by the face, "You don't have to be Elvis Presley when you don't want to." she smiled, "You don't have to be him for anyone, not even me." she said to him, tears pooling in those blue clouds of his that they called eyes.
"Cecelia..." he was lost for words.
"I just love you too much..." she cried in his chest, "I love you so much it hurts me seeing you not happy..." he held her near,
"I love you too much, too." he kissed her head, "I know... You worry about me as I worry about you," he took a deep breath, "But baby, you can't wear yourself thin either, not for me or anyone," he laughed, "Guess we just gotta enjoy the roses together..." Cecelia looked at him as he kissed her nose,
"Guess so,"
"Hows about I take you out to dinner."
"Elvis, it's 3 am..."
"Shit, it's dinner somewhere, ain't it."
"Throw in a strawberry Milkshake, and I'll love you forever."
"So you mean I didn't have to buy you a ring?" she began to laugh as he smiled, "There's my beautiful girl."

1967
After the proposal, the two of you throw yourselves into wedding planning between Elvis’s filming schedule, and decide to have a small ceremony: a simple— or as close to simple as Elvis can get— backyard wedding at your place in Palm Springs. No crowds of screaming fans or press, just the two of you, your families, and a couple friends. Your close friends and parents are flown out for the occasion, and of course Vernon and the Colonel are there to help celebrate as well.
When the day comes, you’re sure that it really wouldn’t have mattered to either of you how many people were there. As you make your way down the aisle, your gazes lock and from that second until the moment you’re pronounced husband and wife, everything else melts away, and it’s as if you and Elvis are the only two people on the planet.
The resounding joy you feel as you and Elvis are pronounced husband and wife wanes just the tiniest bit as the Colonel announces that he organized a press conference for the two of you to attend after the reception. But Elvis seems excited about it (“I can’t wait to show off my girl— my wife,” he amends, beaming), so you put on a smile for the reporters and try to focus on your husband— husband!— sitting next to you.
•••
Life goes on. There’s not as much time for domestic bliss as you’d like, with Elvis’s rigorous filming schedule, but he’s constantly marking you as his in his own way, calling you “my love,” “my angel,” “my darling,” pretty much any pet name he can think of that marks you as his and his alone. The possessiveness is honestly kind of sweet; it reminds you that no matter how many screaming girls gather outside your home, you’re the one he comes home to.
Elvis continues to make more films, at the prompting of the Colonel and becomes the highest-paid actor in Hollywood. He gets to make a few appearances in dramatic roles like he’d always wanted, but to his disappointment, they didn’t do nearly as well as the movie musicals the Colonel was having him churn out. It hurts you to see it, but eventually, the public starts to lose interest in his films altogether.
In the midst of all this, you and Elvis bring a daughter into the world in 1968: Evelyn Gladys Presley. Your husband is absolutely head over heels for her from the moment he sees her, and you know she’ll have him wrapped around her finger her entire life. It warms your heart to no end to see how much he cares for the two of you. Where originally he would’ve been basking in the spotlight for as long as possible, he tends to only answer a couple questions and maybe give a wave to the cameras as he arrives home from filming, telling the interviewers “I’m sorry, I don’t have time to talk at the moment, my girls are waitin’ for me,” before coming home to tell you all about the antics on set that day.
•••
You’d think that with his movie career coming to an end Elvis would have at least a little down time, but no; the Colonel had organized a Christmas special for NBC sponsored by some sewing machine company and he had his hands full preparing for that, though you could tell that his heart wasn’t truly in it.
Then one day, the news came of Dr. King’s death. Everyone was shaken by it, but Elvis particularly so. There was a crowd of people watching the news coverage on the small television you had set up outside the bus on the MGM lot, practically everyone of the crew you had assembled during your time in Hollywood.
Everyone, that is, except for the Colonel, who was still prattling on about the Christmas special sponsored by “the Singer Sewing Machine Company!” You try to ignore him, turning up the volume on the TV set. You turn as Elvis approaches, Evelyn in his arms.
“Memphis is burning,” you lament as he passes Evelyn to you, his attention mostly on the television. He squeezes your arm as he steps away, turning his attention to the still-rambling Colonel.
“A Christmas special. Is this really the best we can do, Admiral?” you hear him ask as you set Evelyn down for her nap and go to stand by his side.
The Colonel mumbles something about “taking the Hollywood phonys for everything they had” and “moving on to greener pastures.”
“We’ve seen Elvis the rebel, we’ve seen Elvis the movie star… now we will see Elvis, the family entertainer!” he explains.
“And appliance salesman?” Jerry Schilling, Elvis’s producer (and close friend after all the time he’s spent here) scoffs from his seat nearby.
“What did you say?” Elvis turns, his tone taking on a dangerous edge. When the only response is silence, he continues, “Listen, Jerry. I don’t need you to question me about how I support my family and every goddamn person here, you understand me? You don’t like it, you can go back to Memphis.” He turns and storms back into the trailer, slamming the door behind him.
Later that night, you find your husband sat on the couch in your trailer, engrossed in the television.
“Hey,” you say softly, leaning against the doorframe.
He looks up, muting the television without a word.
“Can I watch the memorial with you?”
“Yeah, baby,” he nods, holding out his hand to you, and you make your way over to sit in his lap.
His arm wraps around your waist as he turns the volume up and mumbles exhaustedly, “I’m so tired of playing Elvis Presley. Too many people rely on me.”
“I love you,” you intertwine your fingers with his, squeezing three times, and look over at him, saying quietly, “and your daughter loves you. We don’t care about the money or anything else, we just want you to be happy. You’re only really happy when you sing the music you love.”
You press a kiss to his forehead as he furrows his brow, taking in your words, and looks back up to the television set where a woman is singing gospel.
“Mahalia Jackson,” he drawls, “I used to hear her records in church.”
He points to the television, saying almost to himself, “That’s the music that I love.”
A small smile crosses your face as you see the determined glint come back to his eye. You know that whatever he’s planning, it’ll be exactly what he needs after years of cheap movie musicals and soundtracks.
•••
You’re absolutely ecstatic when Elvis tells you he’s planning on enlisting Steve Binder and Bones Howe for his NBC special.
“I don’t wanna do some silly Christmas special, darlin’” he tells you over dinner that night, “I need to get back to myself. And I feel like these fellas… They can help me do that.” He sees the question in your eyes, and adds with a smirk, “And I don’t give a damn what the Colonel thinks about it.”
•••
So here you were, standing just out of view of the cameras as the Colonel ran around backstage talking to the people from Singer Sewing Company, prattling on about the Christmas sweater your husband was going to wear.
Well. Supposed to wear.
You smirk as Elvis enters wearing the leather jumpsuit that had been designed just for the special, looking the exact opposite of a “family entertainer.” He pulls you in for a kiss as he passes you on the way to the stage. You smile against his lips and step off to the side, eager for him to take the spotlight as himself again.
You hide a grin as you take your seat next to Jerry, imagining the look on the Colonel’s face as a leather-wrapped Elvis jumps into a growly rendition of “Heartbreak Hotel”. Throughout the performance, you see your husband as himself for the first time in far too long, and the audience is clearly enjoying it far more than they would have a couple of silly Christmas songs.
“And that’s one thing about this TV special that I’m doing,” he explains during a quiet moment in the show, “they’re gonna let me do what I wanna do. Sing the music that I want.” He looks up, finding your eyes among the crowd, and you smile as he continues, “Music that I love. Music that makes me happy.”
•••
The live audience portion of the show is spectacular, and you can see how Elvis thrives off of an audience’s attention. But everything changes as you watch him filming his other performances for the special.
It’s when you’re in the middle of imagining the scandalized look on the Colonel’s face as whorehouse dancers and kung-fu fighters grace the stage alongside your husband that someone runs in with the news.
“Bobby Kennedy’s been shot!”

After he left the White House, former President Donald Trump allegedly shared sensitive information about U.S. nuclear submarines with an Australian billionaire who is a member of his Mar-a-Lago club, according to a pair of reports published on Thursday.
Trump shared the information with Anthony Pratt during an April 2021 conversation at the Palm Beach, Fla., golf club, according to ABC News, which first reported the development, citing sources familiar with the matter. The New York Times also confirmed the former president shared the information with Pratt, citing two people familiar with the matter.
The revelation was reported to special counsel Jack Smith's office, which charged Trump this year with mishandling classified documents, and prosecutors and FBI agents have twice interviewed Pratt this year about the discussion, ABC News reported.
Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, said in response to questions about the report, “These illegal leaks are coming from sources which totally lack proper context and relevant information. The Department of Justice should investigate the criminal leaking, instead of perpetrating their baseless witch-hunts while knowing that President Trump did nothing wrong, has always insisted on truth and transparency, and acted in a proper manner, according to the law.”
NBC News has also reached out to Pratt’s company for comment.
Pratt recounted that he told Trump during their conversation that Australia should buy submarines from the U.S., and an excited Trump "leaning" toward Pratt as if to be discreet, told him two pieces of information about American submarines, ABC reported, citing the anonymous sources. Trump shared the number of warheads that U.S. submarines typically carry and how close they can get to Russian submarines without being detected, according to both ABC News and The New York Times.
Trump didn't show any government documents to him during the meeting or any other time at Mar-a-Lago, sources told ABC News.
Pratt, executive global chairman of cardboard company Pratt Industries, then shared Trump's remarks with at least 45 other people through emails and conversations, reported ABC News, including journalists, Australian officials, three former Australian prime ministers and employees at his company.
According to the Times, Pratt is among more than 80 people whom prosecutors from Smith's office have identified as potential witnesses who could testify at Trump's trial that's slated to begin in May in Fort Pierce, Fla.
The special counsel's office declined to comment on the reports.
Just so we're all clear:
You can be jailed for taking photos inside a submarine but this motherfucker tells some rando billionaire about it's armament and capabilities and gets to lounge at his golf resort...
A tale of two Justice systems, indeed.

Dianne Feinstein, the oldest member of the U.S. Senate and the longest-serving senator from California, has died at age 90, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News on Friday.
The Democrat’s passing marks the end of a boundary-pushing political career that spanned more than half a century, studded with major legislative achievements on issues including gun control and the environment.
Feinstein had planned to retire at the end of her current term in 2024.
Feinstein’s death leaves vacant her powerful Senate seat, requiring Gov. Gavin Newsom to appoint a temporary successor.
A San Francisco native, Feinstein cleared a path for women in politics as she rose the ranks of leadership. After two failed bids for mayor, she was elected president of San Francisco’s board of supervisors in 1978, becoming the first woman to hold the title.
Feinstein was made acting mayor of the city later that year, after then-Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk, her colleague on the board of supervisors, were assassinated by Dan White, a former member of the same board.
In later interviews, Feinstein recalled finding Milk’s body and searching for a pulse by putting her finger in a bullet hole.
Feinstein was the first to announce the murders to the press. She was appointed mayor a week later, again becoming the first woman elevated to the office.
The tragedy had the side effect of jumpstarting Feinstein’s political career, but the trauma of the day stuck with her even decades later.
“I never really talk about this,” Feinstein said with a sigh when asked about the murders in a CNN interview in 2017.
Her streak of firsts continued at the national level. Feinstein lost a gubernatorial bid in 1990, but two years later won a special election to the U.S. Senate, becoming California’s first female senator.
Weeks later, the state’s second female senator, Barbara Boxer, was sworn into office, making California the first state in the U.S. to be represented in the Senate by two women.
Their 1992 elections helped define the “Year of the Woman,” in which four Democratic women were newly elected to the Senate — more than doubling the chamber’s female representation.
In the Senate, Feinstein clinched some of her biggest legislative achievements. She wrote and championed the 1994 assault weapons ban, both a landmark bill and a continuation of a career-long effort to enact stricter gun controls.
The legislation passed Congress and was signed by then-President Bill Clinton, albeit with major compromises including a 10-year sunset provision. The ban expired in 2004 during the administration of George W. Bush.
She also sponsored bills that protect millions of acres of California’s desert, worked to create a nationwide AMBER alert network, helped reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act and fought for the release of a lengthy report detailing the CIA’s torture practices, among other accomplishments.

Hilary Duff is paying tribute to Stan Rogow, a producer on Disney Channel‘s Lizzie McGuire, following the news of his death.
Rogow passed away on Thursday at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, a family spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter Saturday. He was 75.
“Writing this right now is bringing back so many distant memories of what feels like a completely different lifetime…,” Duff, who played the eponymous character in the Disney series during its two season run from 2001-2004, wrote on Instagram. “One where I had absolutely no clue where I was heading or how I was getting there, but where I had that eagerness and blind optimism that accompanies youth and your first opportunities to step up.”
Duff called Rogow a “very special person who fought for me to land a role that would change the entire course of my life.” She added, “I’m so very sad to hear of his passing today. Stan – thank you for thinking I had ‘that special thing.'”
The Disney vet concluded her note by thanking Rogow for “all of the Lizzie adventures” and for “helping create a reality I could never have dreamed of.”
As executive producer on Lizzie McGuire, Rogow earned two of his three career Emmy nominations for Outstanding Children’s Program in 2003 and 2004. His first Emmy nod came years earlier in 1982 for Outstanding Drama Series for his work on NBC’s Fame.
During his decades-long career, Rogow served as producer on a number of other notable TV series, including Shannon’s Deal, Flight 29 Down, Darcy’s Wild Life and Woke Up Dead. His film credits include All I Want for Christmas, Men of War and The Lizzie McGuire Movie, among others

Harkles & Hudson Yards
Hi Skippy & Friends-Pilgrim here with a question once again about the “Farchwell Foundation” participating at the Project Healthy Minds event. According to the festivals schedule, speakers start at 7 AM and go until 5:30 PM, in different buildings that make up the new Hudson Yard neighborhood on over 20 acres on the west side of the city. The Harkle’s are in the 1:30 slot and have no room/floor/building listed to find them. “The Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit: Mental Wellness in a Digital Age” — SOLD OUT Join NBC’s Carson Daly and parents for a discussion on building community and creating positive change for a safer online world for young people, with special guests Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy.“ ____________ This is where they give the location…hmmm.
Carson Daly is hosting the event’s gala at Spring Studios in Tribeca from 6-10 PM. He will also be with Anderson Cooper at the 11:00 talk. I question if he will actually be with them too…thinking his name was just used in the PR word salad to get attention and make them look more important. We shall see. Not sure what the prices are to attend any of the talks. To attend the gala, one has to register for tickets and there are many levels…from $1,000 up to $250,000 for a table of 20 which includes added bennies like recognition and mixing with the rich and famous. The lower entry levels are sold out.
I am hoping we will get an insider’s real report on them from one who attends! IMHO, once again, the ILBW is working the corridors of a foundation to get a headline or two, mimicking their royal relatives. What a shame that People rag-azine keeps spewing their carefully crafted lies that might look decent to those not aware of this hustler’s game. Get your super strength popcorn ready for their annual Fall Fashion Fail coming up in just about 24 hours.
Sadly, it seems to me we have far more important things to work on like not starting WWIII. FYI-"Judaism is the second-largest religion practiced in New York City, with approximately 1.6- 1.77 million adherents as of 2022, representing the largest Jewish community of any city in the world, greater than the combined totals of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.” Over and out for now.
Thank you Pilgrim…we wait and see…it’s going to be entertaining that is a given….🙂❤️

Peter Tork, 1966.

Known professionally as Peter Tork, [he] has been interested in folk singing and the guitar for the past 15 years. A 1959 Edwin O. Smith High School graduate, he attended Carlton [sic] College in Northfield, Minn. While there he was a disc jockey for the college radio station. During his year at Smith, he was a reporter for the school humor magazine and was active in the drama club. "[When I lived in New York] I also taught a bunch of kids up in Westchester for awhile. I wonder if they remember me now." - Peter Tork, The Monkees: Here We Are (1967)
“I arrived on the Village scene the winter of ‘61, and stayed there for about two and a half years. I played guitar and banjo. I came to the Village for glamour, excitement, hippiedom, the liberal lifestyle, free love. I was on the basket-passing circuit in the smaller clubs, like the Basement, the Cyclops and the Id. I later played Gerdes. What I was working towards was to be in a group. When the Beatles hit, where were all the folkies going to go? But I also wanted to be a folk music performer. A lot of what I did was hanging out, feeling for the first time that I was part of the scene, walking down the street and seeing people I knew, doing a little flirting. People were coming to the Village to sit down and have a cup of coffee and hope to find the free love that was supposed to be all around. The character that I was on The Monkees was developed on the stages of the Village clubs.” - Peter Tork, Bringing It All Back Home: 25 Years of American Music at Folk City (1986) (x)
More about Peter’s years at Carleton College and Greenwich Village here; more about Peter’s school days here.
