adam getting stuck in a “love triangle” in book one and then getting stuck in an entirely different love triangle (while still being in the previous one) in book two and then ending up single in the third book is so iconic (and depressing)

This being the first time Will talked to or even looked directly at Mike since the airport is hilarious. Like I just know Mike was having heart palpitations as he flip-flopped away afterwards, still processing what just happened, only for him to jump back in with that vomit green sock joke, all confident like now we're cooking! as if it he wasn't about to tell the worst joke ever known to man i'm crying

it's pretty wild to me that people don't see that aang running off to save katara in CoD is his luke in empire strikes back moment, where he runs headlong into his want and attachment and he's narratively punished for doing so and not learning his lesson - aang runs after katara despite guru pathik's warning, like luke runs after leia and han from yoda on dagobah despite yoda's warning; similarly, as a result, things go to hell in ba sing se like they do on bespin - aang enters the avatar state before he's ready and gets killed, and ba sing se falls to the fire nation, luke fights vader before he's ready, loses a hand, and symbolically commits suicide after vader tells him he's luke's father.
the difference between their character arcs is that george lucas and co. actually went thru with luke's hero's journey and understood the fundamental difference between attachment and love, whereas I don't think bryke understood this difference and then dropped this from aang's arc pretty much completely and replaced it with aang digging in his heels into his want and attachment and he gets rewarded with energy bending from a lion turtle, the avatar state from a random pointy rock, and his forever girl from the self-indulgent white men that couldn't bring themselves to give their hero a compelling character arc that meant he might not have gotten everything he wanted at the end.

i truly would not be mad if nancy breaks up with jonathan and tells steve to move on. and for vickie to tell robin she’s not interested but is willing to be friends. so nancy and robin decide they need to hang out after a long day of heartbreak and throughout their convos of explaining everything that’s been going on, they realize they have feelings for each other. i truly would not be mad at that. in fact, that’s exactly what i want to happen 😌

even if ronance isn’t endgame, i need nancy to have an arc where she chooses her friend. in my head, the only thing that makes sense is nancy choosing robin. not even in the romantic sense (although i would die of happiness if it was), just nancy remembering her choices and not making the same mistakes she made at sixteen.
having nancy go through four seasons of chasing/grieving/fighting for her best friend, only to turn her entire character into a plot device for steve or jonathan, would be the worst possible choice the duffers could make.

Amok Time from Stonn's Perspective
There is this line in the episode that many people find totally iconic:
Tumblr media
And don't get me wrong, I agree - it is a good line. But it's also so very, very wrong in context?
Put yourself into Stonn's perspective for a moment:
He loves T'Pring, and she tells him that she loves him as well, but she is engaged to this guy.
She has not spoken to him for ages, he has all but abandoned life on Vulcan for a career in Starfleet and because he is half-human, he may never enter Pon Farr at all. Except one day he does, and you are totally expecting one of two things to happen:
a) T'Pring marries him and your affair is over.
b) She challenges and chooses you as champion - which has a 61.54% chance of ending in your death because the guy is a soldier with combat training and experience. (This is the way kal-if-fee is supposed to work, btw.)
Except neither of those things happen because your girlfriend is brilliant and awesome and loves you very much and finds a way to keep you safe and to be with you no matter what.
And then the guy says that to you.
Tumblr media
And you realize that he understands nothing - that T'Pring does not prefer you for logical reasons but because she loves you. And that she just made you the most perfect love declaration imaginable.
But you're Vulcan, and the situation is already awkward enough, and T'pring evidently does not need you to fight for her honour, so you say nothing.
And then everyone sees you and your future wife as the villain because she did not want to sleep with a guy that apparently everyone else wants to sleep with. Not gonna lie, I'd be mad.
Except Stonn is probably too busy eating p*ssy to think about Spock.

I have been awake all night and I think, since we got to follow Zuko from S1 even though he didn’t join the Gaang until the bitter end, we should’ve gotten the same for Toph. In between season 1 and early season 2 plots, we’d occasionally cut to this earth kingdom noble family for seemingly no reason.
Ok they are rich and they have the daughter. Alright she’s blind that’s interesting. The Beifongs will comment about canon events and their daughter is quiet and perfect in the background. Then one episode we see her earthbend something small, intriguing. Also intriguing she only looks helpless and lost when other people are around. We get more solo perspectives of her, she’s a bit more coarse away from her parents. Her earthbending continues to be used secretly, impressive but not monumental. We suspect she’ll be similar to Katara, an eager, untrained bender who learns as she teaches Aang. We wait with anticipation for this vulnerable girl to see the world and own her power.
And then they drop The Blind Bandit episode and every episode that follows are unchanged and oh. Oh. Now we are really meeting Toph.

sorry sometimes i think about mako and my heart hurts so much. this kid raised himself and his brother on the streets in homelessness and utter poverty from eight through fifteen, promptly after seeing the violent death of his mother and father. he turned to the triple threats because they couldn't survive as a pair of wretched kids without any adult support, and the environment forced him to turn into the exact character that killed his parents in a terrible twist of irony. and after sheer-fucking-luck hits and they aren't homeless anymore, their livelihood wavers on the outcome of what's a literally game to everyone but them; and after things are finally starting to look up and their team is going places and things just might be okay, his gradually stabilizing world unceremoniously expands and everything goes to shit.
and the city that chewed him up and spat him back out, ruined him as a child and took away his ability to stay afloat in a true sense of normalcy as an adult — when it's on the verge of destruction and falling to pieces before his eyes, he gives himself to save it with the full expectation to die. he went from the kid who didn't and couldn't care about anything outside of himself and his brother, to finding redemption for his younger self in his police work despite its injustice against him, to willingly sacrificing himself to a world that had never loved him.
he's a desperate people pleaser, socially and emotionally stunted for the adult he had to be as a kid, unable to navigate interpersonal relationships easily yet still trying his damned hardest. he's intensely and entirely devoted to the things that matter to him and for so long it was only him, bolin, and ensuring their survival — yet by the end, that devotion has expanded to protecting the rest of the world. he starts out entirely self-reliant and ends in trusting the people he cares about to know their own needs, to be able to take care of themselves, to be okay without him despite having spent so much of his life defined by his role in others' well-being.
just. what the fuck i'm such a big fan of this fictional guy and i'm unashamed about it at this point. also let him cry please (if you won't i'll do it i'll let him cry)
