forgive me if the question was rhetorical, but in totk link doesn't have to dress up as a girl to get in gerudo town anymore. i dont think the gerudo that sells you the girl outfit is seen in the game this time? not to my knowledge, anyways. link is recognised in gerudo town as the dude who saved everyone and is a close friend of riju's, and so is the only man allowed in. i haven't even seen the girl outfit in totk, but maybe thats just me, so take it with a pinch of salt
unfortunately though, there is a larger presence of creeps trying to get in? theres a guise of "haha we're just trying to do business with them!" thats obviously fake, but im not quite sure what their intentions are but its just a bit uncomfortable to include tbh. one is seen actually inside gerudo town, sneaking around and afraid of getting caught.
the slightly good news is that theres a pretty feminine outfit link can wear without any of the bizzare implications or orientalism. its just a cute outfit with a nice status boost (to my understanding) & theres a larger presence of darker skinned/black coded hylians that aren't exoticised like the gerudo are. bare minimum but i guess we can take what we're given
i really wish that nintendo would be normal about the gerudo and stuff (even giving the other races a little big of language so the gerudo dont seem so Other when they say voe/vai/savaaq etc) but alas, baby steps i guess
the question wasnt rhetorical i have seen one single person on twitter bring up that the orientalist outfit was removed, but they didnt comment on the gerudo’s depiction at all n i saw no other mention of it anywhere, thank u for sending this.
it doesnt sound like they actually fixed the transphobia tho, bc theyre still doing a “girls only” “only guy allowed” cisnormative type shit. “creepy guys” “dressing like women” to access “women’s spaces” is transphobic Period. doesnt matter what the in-universe lore is yknow ?? the real world anti-trans rhetoric rn is at an all time high, its unconscionable to include anything like that.
like doesnt anyone else remember how they intentionally made link androgynous in oot ?? hes not a “strong hero guy” archetype, but a lot of my problem w that is based in the fandom n is a whole other post. idc if link has a “feminine” outfit option bc that just gives the fans i was criticizing the opportunity to further sexualize him. literally the tweet i mentioned, that said they removed the orientalist outfit, comments on links “sexy” outfit he can wear instead. GAG !
also the idea of “baby steps” is for individual people, not international megacorporations bringing in 12 BILLION dollars a year. you Dont need to “take what u can get” u need to not buy games from a demonstratably racist company, and clearly say that the reason is bc they keep including racism in their games. japan as a country needs to address the racism rampant in their media more, n the media companies-especially when they go international-need to recognize the need for awareness. how dare they b antiblack in games they r selling to black people ! how dare they b colorist in games they r marketing in brown ass countries. n its not like black n brown ppl dont live in japan, bc they do n they experience racism constantly ! japan likes to try and separate itself from the rest of asia n in doing so reinforces existing stereotypes about other asians, particularly southwest asians n other asians who tend to have darker skin. japan has a huge colorism problem n that cant b ignored w any of nintendo’s games bc they always put it front n fucking center. the new pokemon games were racist, the fucking kirby game was racist !! nintendo Cannot get a nostalgia pass anymore. theyre not ur friend, n theyre certainly not mine.
tears of the kingdom made 10 million dollars in three days. nintendo is not hurting bc people r rightfully pointing out that they Have to do better. but theyve been actively getting worse, not just in what they put in their games, but in the way they openly mistreat their staff. not to mention putting gary bowser in indentured servitude for having the audacity to try and preserve game history w emulation. nintendo execs have gone on the record saying they dont care if games get wiped off the face of the earth, lost to history. the consumers have to put in the work bc nintendo Will Not.

it would be really nice if ppl harping on transmascs for talking abt anti-transmasculinity (or even, gasp, giving a name to it!) actually listened to the experiences of transmascs of color (particularly Black transmascs), disabled transmascs, fat transmascs, etc. etc. instead of centering the hypothetical thin, white, cis-passing able-bodied trans man they have in their head who they use as the benchmark for all transmasc experience. any of the beliefs about how transmascs aren’t targeted as much, aren’t hated by terfs, face less violence, aren’t treated as predators, are simply “invisible” by default (rather than being deliberately erased and buried), etc wouldn’t be happening if people just listened to transmascs saying over and over again that yes, we do experience these things, yes, these harms do happen to us. you wouldn’t believe we don’t face those things if you listened to us.
anti-transmasculinity is a whole and unique experience, multifaceted and intersectional, and it involves the continued and deliberate erasure of transmasc folks and our struggles and the violence we face, and the lumping in of violence against us as “violence against women.” anti-transmasculinity is not a counter or an “opposite” to transmisogyny; they are interconnected struggles — transfem & transmasc are not opposites! the existence of anti-transmasculinity does not mean that transmascs have it “worse” or “better” — honestly, judging oppression by such metrics is unproductive and unhelpful. we have more to gain from engaging with each other and understanding how our experiences mutually connect with one another.

people will really just say the most transphobic shit and hide it behind the label "white transmasc" like that automatically makes it not transphobic

It's always weird when people are like, "Oh, you being [x minority] made me stop hating/reconsider my bigotry toward [minority]!"
Not only is it weird from the standpoint of "wow, you hated me?" but it's weird to know that you displayed some type of behaviour that proved your humanity to them, and that if you stop displaying that behaviour for any reason, it's possible they'll just slide back into their hatred because they haven't fundamentally challenged why they hated you and your people.
It's fine to grow out of your bigotry, yes, but I'm completely understanding of people being weary of those who are so brazen about how much they hated people like you.

why dont you like reani :| if youre a self proclaimed "horror buff" you should know that it's an iconic and influential film and people ship the main characters because queer representation is minimal in horror movies unless were being shown as villains. its esp sus bc most people hc herbert as trans like. what do you /really/ have against that kind of ship lol
This attitude is probably why your guys got so many submissions. Just saying.

its insane that even tho taemin for years now has been like "im gona break the gender barriers im gona straddle the line between man and woman," ppl have such an averse reaction to anyone pointing that out or commenting on it. you dont have to be annoyed at people pointing out taemingender when taemin is doing the gender stuff in the first place. and you definitely dont have to "protect" him from people playing along. they even tried to get that super junior guy in trouble for this.

transmascs you know you are allowed to talk about your experiences without adding "but of course transfems have it worse!" right. that is oppression olympics you are playing. you can just say "this is a thing i struggle with because of transphobia" and leave it at that. i promise you there is a transfem out there who would look at your situation and go "oh my god thats awful, i've never experienced anything like that" and there is a transmasc who would look at your situation and go "yeah i've gone through that and much, much worse", because neither transmascs nor transfems are a monolith and neither one is privileged over the other.
free yourself of the need to constantly downplay your suffering from oppression. you are suffering and you deserve not to be, that's the end of the sentence. stop playing the sick game of comparing suffering, whether you are favoring yourself or not.

I love how half this website felt it necessary to cancel Kyle Gordon—a Jewish comedian—for a character (based on Gordon and his brother themselves) they considered ableist, which then escalated to a ridiculous rap sheet that culminated in accusations of antisemitism...
... but when this site's multimillionaire faves actively throw their weight behind an apartheid state (in addition to a long list of things like broader racism, transmisogyny, biphobia, and abuse apologia), suddenly, it's complicated. it's nuanced. it's... whatever you need to sleep at night.

Oh my god so I’ve been struggling for a very long time to articulate what made me uncomfortable about “femme” or “masc” versions of characters and it’s bc that’s almost always just used in place of the word “gender swapping” without actually changing the transphobic parts of the concept.
Like. The whole reason people dislike the whole thing of genderswapping characters is bc ppl act like man and woman are “opposite genders,” which is the part that this negates.
However the other, more PRESSING thing that is a problem is that people ASSIGN CERTAIN PHYSICAL TRAITS to these words like BODY TYPE, BREASTS/NO BREASTS, THICK/THIN EYELASHES, HEIGHT, HAIR, ETC, ETC, ETC!!! And this form of categorization should sound familiar! Because these are the things transphobes use to distinguish “the two genders”
There is NO “FEMME” BODY and NO “MASC” BODY. Like if someone called my body (short, large chest, wide hips, etc) “femme” I’d immediately think they were transphobic. Because it would be!! Femme and Masc are presentations, NOT bodies. Bodies have no gender.
(Obviously they have a sex, but that’s not what I’m talking about and if you think it is you’re clearly not the intended audience of this post)

trans women don’t oppress trans men
trans men don’t oppress trans women
as a whole, this is horizontal punching each other. anything else is just bioessentialism and gender essentialism.
however, trans men are also capable of transmisogyny, and that needs to be called out when it happens.
and trans women are also capable of transandrophobia, and that needs to be called out when it happens.
allyship goes both ways, you can’t demand everyone listen to you and do what you say and then ignore when people are trying to get you to listen, and hear the other side

another terf post i saw on my blocking spree was like 'for decades we've been telling women they need to cover up and carry knives and not walk alone at night to avoid being raped and now they're mad we don't want men in our locker rooms?' like yeah cuz people telling you to change your lifestyle to avoid being raped was wrong and just another way to blame you for your own assault when you're more likely to be raped by someone you feel safe with than by a stranger in public anyway

Tw: transphobia
~~~
“Are you gay?” He started.
“Wha-?” The question completely caught her off guard, “Why does that matter?”
“Well if you’re not then you don’t need to take those pills.”
“How does being gay or not relate to my blockers at all?”
“Because that’s what trans women are. They’re just gay men that want to be able to sleep with other men.”
“That is NOT at ALL what trans women are!”
“Yes it is,” His voice was stern, not willing to budge, “So if you’re not gay then you can stop that ridiculous treatment and finally cut your hair. It looks like a mop.”
“Stop calling it a mop! I like my hair this way! And I’m not stopping my blockers!”
“I’m just making sure you’re not gonna do something you’ll regret,” He tried to soften his voice.
“This is the best I’ve ever felt!”
“For now,” The ‘softness’ was gone in an instant, “You’ll grow out of it eventually and you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”
“You don’t know that!”
“Of course I do! I know you’re not trans! I never saw a single sign!”
“Yeah. Because I thought I was weird and hid it!” She was getting tired of this.
“Either way, I’m not letting you take your pills anymore.”
“You can’t just do that!” She felt like she was about to cry.
“I’m your father! You’ll do what I say! No more pills! And stop going out with your Pokemon for fuck’s sake! You need to be studying for college!”
“College? I’m thirteen!”
“And you need to prepare now or you’ll never get in. You know when I was young I never got–”
“Into college and you always regretted it. I know! You’ve only been telling me that for the past three years!” She knew that line like the back of her hand now.
“So you know what you have to do. Stop spending the whole day outside playing and start thinking about your fucking future! You’re not going to support yourself by being a fucking trainer!”
“Why not? Olympia already suggested that I become her apprentice!”
“Because that’s not what you’re good at! You’re a programmer! Like me!”
“I’m not you!”
“I know! You’re my son, Gray-”
“Kaiya! It’s Kaiya! I’m not your son!” She shouted, grabbing her bag and heading for the door, “And I’m not gonna be your fucking daughter either!”
“Fine then! You’ll see what a child you’re being when you realise you're not strong enough.”
She gritted her teeth, taking a second to look back at the man she used to call ‘dad’.
“Watch me.”
okay I’ve seen too many fuckin illiterate idiots using “tHerE’S No EtHiCaL ConSumPtiOn UnDeR CapiTaLiSm” to justify buying Antisemitism: The Game so i feel the need to say yes, you are illiterate, and yes, you are an idiot - because you are //completely ignoring the context and nuance of that phrase to serve your own selfish goals//
The concept of no ethical consumption under capitalism is specifically about those in low income households/poverty who cannot afford the luxury of sustainability and ethical purchasing because that shit is expensive af and having the best quality of life possible, in relation to your situation, is far more important than having a heppy over using Amazon or not
So that is to say, the new (overpriced) HP game does not fall under any of those perimeters, and your money is actively going to support a TERF and her ideologies (ideologies that are capable of turning into fucking legislation in the UK) along with a host of writers who apparently thought freeing a enslaved race counts as a bad ending
So yeah, feel bad about buying and playing the game, and listen to the accounts of our trans family and Jewish friends because, shockingly, they know what they’re talking about when it comes to discrimination
Edit: once more for those in the back not getting it LISTEN TO YOUR TRANS AND JEWISH FRIENDS/MUTUALS/WHATEVERS ABOUT THIS, THEY ARE THE AUTHORITY ON THIS MATTER
