"Time held a mirror and reflected a world of parallels... of fear and longing, with no sense of belonging. But that dissonance became a song in me. What should have destroyed me... what attempted to gender or 'boy' me, set me free."
Neptune Frost (2021) dir. Saul Williams, Anisia Uzeyman
“Unanimous goldmine” is the greeting of the resource-rich who face a world beholden to the currency of our depletion. This golden salute elevates the vibration of metallic injustice to the threshold of planetary sustenance. When I beheld Matalusa, the greeting took on new dimensions. I attemped to speak, but was struck by the millions of conversations streaming through me.
NEPTUNE FROST (2021)
dir. Saul Williams & Anisia Uzeyman
In the hilltops of Rwanda a group of escaped coltan miners form an anti-colonialist computer hacker collective. From their camp in an otherworldly e-waste dump, they attempt a takeover of the authoritarian regime exploiting the region's natural resources - and its people. When Neptune, an intersex runaway, and Matalusa, a miner, find each other through cosmic forces, their connection sparks glitches within the greater divine circuitry.
