round 1, poll 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Widok na dworzec:
painted circa 1935
so Nikifor was a Lemko painter who lived in poverty in Krynica-Zdrój
he was self-taught, painted on any sheet of paper he could find, mostly panoramas of Krynica
probably had some kind of intellectual disability
he had difficulties writing; the captions he wrote on his paintings are full of spelling errors
considered one of the most prominent representants of naive art
so anywayyy there is a gallery of his art in Krynica and i absolutely adore it, not only this one but all of them. the lines, the colours, the perspective! just lovely. and Nikifor himself was such an interesting figure in art history
Pogrzeb huculski:
painted in 1882
it's one of Axentowicz's many paintings depicting Hutsul culture
the landscape! the beautiful greek catholic church!
i do love funeral scenes and i do love snowy landscapes
the little kid on the right is probably my favourite detail here tho. if you zoom in she's looking right at you. creepy baby
there is something really precious to me about a funeral being such a colourful scene against the empty winter landscape
check out more of their works: Nikifor, Axentowicz

On the second floor of the Ukrainian Museum in the East Village, visitors are transported to the distinctive landscape of the Carpathian Mountains through more than 100 watercolors and sketches by the self-taught Lemko artist Nikifor (1895–1968). Born with a speech impediment that made him unintelligible to many people, Nikifor turned to drawing as a means of communication. He almost obsessively depicted the world around him, creating anywhere from a dozen to 100 sketches and paintings a day.
Curated by Myroslava Mudrak, The Ultimate Outsider is a compelling introduction to the artist, who is largely unknown in the United States despite being one of Central Europe’s most famous outsider artists.

i saw a lovely post about wanting to draw like a kid and the beauty and confidence of childrens art. may i interest you all in some art by nikifor krynicki? as a genuine example of naïve art, i feel like his work really embodies those elements, and is just so vibrant and excellent and exciting to look at.

I’m finally reading Ravishing Allure and I’m just so in love with it. I’m on Chap 7 and I know I’m probably shooting in the dark but! I think Seraph’s stalker is Nikifor.
He’s one of the few names I noticed being seen. Plus in the first chapter I remember they were talking about how Nikifor couldn’t marry Aly due to his social standing. So that means that they could’ve been together for a couple years. Aly treats Seraph like a sister and best friend so Aly most likely introduced Nikifor to Seraph.
He’d easily be looked over because Aly is Nikifor’s soulmate so he wouldn’t be a suspect. I also believe that many in the AMA would recognize Nikifor and go about their day because that’s Aly’s soulmate. So of course he’d be able to go in and out. Aly and Seraph talk about everything so Seraph most definitely told her that she was getting a new bodyguard.
Of course I’m spit balling but I really think it’s Nikifor. AGAIN I am absolutely in love with Ravishing Allure and I’m inhaling the chapters so fast!!!
Thank you!! I'm glad you're liking it. That's a pretty interesting theory, I like it! It would definitely cause some big drama, lol.

Kocham je, nienawidzę go, chciałbym, żeby spłonęło, nigdy nie chcę go opuszczać.
(stroje ludowe, tradycyjne pieśni, styl architektury, legendy...)
Ogólnie kultura bliskich mi lesioków, a gdybym miał wybrać z tej kultury jedną rzecz, to pewnie byłyby to stroje.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hafty!!!

Ktokolwiek będziesz w Kolbuszowskiej stronie, polecam się wybrać do skansenu i pooglądać przynajmniej sektor lasowiacki - przeciekawa sprawa‼️

abakanowicz, łempicka, nikifor?
evening!
abakanowicz: do you have a favourite art installation?
I don't know that many installations to be completely honest, it's a gap I hope to mend as I go on. but I must say, if any of you fine countrymen ever have the opportunity to visit Niewidzialna Wystawa, you simply must.
łempicka: if you were to plan and execute an art exhibition (and had unlimited funds and connections etc), what would be the theme and what pieces would you exhibit?
I've already answered the same question here, however, an exhibition showing the timeline of Polish typography, it could be in equal parts a lesson in history of the alphabet & written language, as well as an aesthetical journey through different styles, fonts and what art movements they correspond to
nikifor: how do you feel about your home town?
I would die for it
