Your dog hates fireworks.
Hey so it’s about to be already fireworks time here in the US and this is your friendly reminder to keep your pets safe!
More pets go missing around July 4 than pretty much any other time of year - about a 30% increase, according to Pet Amber Alert.
And okay, not every pet hates fireworks, but no non-human species launches bombs into the air for fun. People tend to forget that just because we’re having a good time doesn’t mean your dog is into the whole thing. A lot of them are actually pretty convinced they’re in mortal peril. And even the ones who aren’t actively panicking about the end times are tolerating the flashbangs, not enjoying them.
Here’s some basic things to keep your pet safe:
Take precautions. If you do have to take your pet outside while the fireworks are going on, make sure that their collar (or harness) fits properly and that you have them on a leash. Make sure that you have an ID tag on their collar. If your pet is microchipped, make sure that your contact information is up to date so that if someone finds them they can let you know. (If your pet isn’t microchipped, consider getting them chipped.)
Keep them inside. Yes, I mean inside, not just “under control”. If you have a dog, they should be in the house. If you have an indoor-outdoor cat, they should be in the house. Your dog might love the people at an independence day party but they do not love the big booms and flashy lights and smell of smoke.
Muffle the sights and sounds. If your pet doesn’t like the noise, playing music or white noise (not super loud, but loud enough that an unexpected boom is less dramatic) can help. Keep them in a room where they can’t see the flashes, and/or keep the lights on so that the flashing is less impressive. Through A Dog’s Ear is great and data-backed if you’re looking for something to play.
Distract them. Treats and toys (especially things that take time and focus, like filled kongs or easy homemade games) give your pet something positive to focus on. If you have a pet who’s panicky about fireworks, don’t leave them home alone - you’re a good source of comfort!
Use medications or supplements in addition if needed. If your pet is at the point where just playing some white noise and giving them a licky mat solves things, great! If they’re too panicked to be distracted from it, talk to your vet about anxiety medication. Note that medication doesn’t work by itself - you can’t just give them pills and do nothing else. It’s also not a good idea to start a new medication without a test-run first, because your pet might be more freaked out.

I have an extreme panic inducing fear of all bugs and all of my biology assignments this week involving watching videos of crickets interacting with each other. I thought "maybe it won't be so bad" until I opened an assignment saw an up close picture of a cricket and started gagging

I find it so funny (endearing?) when shows have stuff like Jim's estrangement from his sister or Gaipa's conversation with his mum that are like, no these characters do not live in a fantasy homophobia free world, they just only hang out with other gay people so it rarely comes up

Can my brother, who knows I have a bad fear of earthquakes, stop telling me when we have even a slight one? We're supposedly due/overdue for a 9.0....so any little one makes me think "Is this how the Big One starts?"

⚡FLASH COOKIE RUN GLOBOPHOBIC LIGYROPHOBIC HEADCANON REACTIONS Vol.1 🎈
This a new idea i just had, flash and short Headcanons of how the cookies react to you telling them that you're afraid of balloons or loud noises. As always, request for characters are open. Hope you like it!
🍪 Gingerbrave: "Oh, sure is strange that you're scared, they are just balloons! Look! They are fun, and give joy! I know it must be hard, but as long as you're the bravest that you can be, you don't have to worry!
👑💝 Princess Cookie: Oh, that's surely a quirk, but thanks for telling me beforehand! I'm so glad you trusted me with this mighty secret. But don't fear, I will be with you at any moment! And there's plenty of parties on the Hollyberry Kingdom that don't involve fireworks or balloons, just stay by my side!
☕🤍❄️Cocoa Cookie: Oh dear, I can only imagine how hard is for you New Years Eve, but I gladly invite you next year to my house, after Mint Choco Cookie's recital, we can go to my place to have a quiet party, we'll drink cocoa all night and you'll forgot about those problems!
☕⚗️ Espresso Cookie: Ugh, just nonse to skip the classes, I know those excuses... Oh, so you're really scared of the sound of the reactions? Ok, better buckle up your "fear" because clearly is gonna delay the calendar of class... Or we could just pass to another subject... But you'll have to work twice to compensate this. I can't believe I'm letting you skip this class
🥑 Avocado Cookie: Oh seriously? Let me solve that with a little joke: Of what music genre are balloons scared?... POP MUSIC! AHAHAHAHAH! You see? Laughter is the best medicine! So when you feel scared, just thinking about something funny instead to distract yourself!
🍒💣Cherry Cookie: But fireworks are GREAT! THEY ARE COLORFUL AND FUN AND LOOK THEY GO POW! AND BOOOM! A CRAAACK FUSHHHHH BOOOM (You get out of there as soon as possible)
🐺Wolf Cookie: yeah, I know... Sometimes loud noises *wroof* make me loose control... That's why I'm here alone, you should go to, I don't want to scare you instead... Sorry...
🥞🍓 Strawberry Crepe Cookie: Hmmm... So a phobia, huh? Hahaha Cookies never end to amaze me! How a cookie can be so susceptible to weird stimulus, making them feel extremely scared... But my Wafflebots are superior! They don't fear anything! They do their jobs no matter what! But now that we are on the subject... Don't you wanna be my next experiment for a while? Let's study how your cookie brain works!
🎃 Pumpkin Pie Cookie: Being scared can be so much fun sometimes! Pompom and I love playing scary games...! But It's no fun when you're scared and don't wanna be... So we're going to make you company tonight! Let's go to the valley, we can watch the fireworks from there but the noise won't scare you! Don't worry, Pompom will carry us...

I'm pretty sure my entire life's problems can be chalked up to never getting enough sleep and having a negative attitude. Of course getting my ADHD treated helped immensely but that doesn't solve everything.
One day I was so tired, and I struggle to sleep normally; I literally left a conversation and said I'm going to sleep at like 9pm. Please note that I usually would never consider sleeping earlier than even 1 am before.
Anyhow, the next day omg I woke up at 6:30 am because I didn't want to oversleep and I was so rested I made delicious food and watched anime first thing in the morning, specifically a very positive anime, I think it might have been my next life as a villainous. I actually for the first time in a long time, worked out. Well, not working out per say, because I still have to trick my brain, no I played sports with my sibling, turned on good ol' Wii sports and played some DDR. After that I started sleeping and waking up at a decent time every day, and I actually felt fine even if I messed up a day here and there.
Only recently did I mess up my sleep for a few consecutive days, in which I felt sluggish and tired like I always have before. Recently I was discussing how much sleep a human requires, I assumed it was 5 hours for most people, and found out that it is actually 7-9 hours for adults, and even more time for younger people. Of course some people can get less but that's not true for most. Here I thought I was the insane one for struggling to wake up with less than 7 hours now, and when I was a teenager, good luck getting 5!
The point of this is just that I was so defeatist, I will never sleep normal, never wake up at a good time, never feel rested, but I did! I actually did! So now I'm going to ensure I get enough sleep tonight, I'm not sacrificing my sleep for anything. I even managed to stay pretty well on track during school, and these assignments are never ending.
I had a friend who did everything in highschool; I admired her so much, she worked out, cooked all her food, woke up early, studied, was literally the valedictorian, and still had time to hang out and play video games.
The most impressive part to me was that she managed all that while keeping a good sleep routine, eating healthy, and exercising.
She's half the inspiration for why I still keep up with this new schedule now, because, I know she did it, and I know it wasn't always easy for her, and really we all can do this, if anything this part should be the easy part.
Anyways this is partly to remind myself to get adequate sleep and work out today after I finally clean my room and work on my assignment. The other part is to remind everyone that taking care of yourself is always the base priority, everything that is so hard, like managing time, or work, or whatever, is secondary and usually gets easier the more you take care of yourself.
I mean just a year ago or so I thought I was gonna die on the couch barley able to move, and now I'm doing what I thought was literally impossible; taking care of myself, doing school work, AND actually having time to work on side projects!
I probably missed a lot of what I wanted to say, and while I would usually scold myself for writing this instead of working on my assignments, this took only a few minutes, contrary to the hour or two I use to feel was being wasted away.
Remember if something is hard to do, just make it fun. I don't like cooking, but I do like eating fancy looking food while watching anime. I don't like exercising, but I do like playing video games like Wii sports or actual sports. I don't like sleeping, but I do like lying down in a warm blanket with a favourite movie playing as I close my eyes for just a moment.

one of my first memories that i relate to autism is being at daycare at like age 4 and it's after some party and the caregiver lady had us kids play with the balloons and burst them at will, since they would be cleaning it later anyway, and we were kinda helping with that but having fun, and i noped and i crouched and covered my ears and screamed while the other kids wreaked havoc around me in the room.
that's all i remember. i don't remember the teacher's reaction. likely my parents were told about this. this is one of the things that makes me baffled that i was never diagnosed as a kid, not even with asperger's which was common in the 2000s, but instead only misdiagnosed with ocd (i'm a boy, or assigned male; borderline would make sense but they don't (mis)diagnose boys with that).
