Day 71: Shark Combat, Zora's Domain Healed, Link Sleepy
We unlock the fourth and final water pump for the Water Temple mid-morning.
Tumblr media
It's been great weather the last few days, absolutely gorgeous skies. The last time I spent this long in Zora's Domain, it was perpetually raining. It's nice to see their beautiful architecture in the light.
We head back up to the central panel. Time to see what's under all that sludge.
It's just… a little guy?? But - oh. It has a shark.
Tumblr media
We engage.
After a hard battle, the creature explodes into Gloom.
Tumblr media
The last of the sludge dissolves. The waterfall runs clear. We did it.
Tumblr media
Now, for Sidon to receive his birthright.
We approach the secret stone suspended at the altar of the temple.
A vision. Sidon's ancestor in that dream space, the Sage of Water.
Tumblr media
She shows us her perspective of the Imprisoning War. And she shows us her conversation with Zelda afterwards. My Zelda. Warm, determined, golden hair glowing in the sunlight. This is my Princess.
Tumblr media
Sidon accepts his birthright, and I welcome his avatar by my side with honour.
Tumblr media
We head back to the domain - Yona will be worried.
King Dorephan is healed, the sludge disappearing from his wounds as it vanishes from the waterfalls of the domain. All is well once again in Zora's Domain.
And yet, things still change. Dorephan grants the crown to Sidon. He has proved many times worthy of it. He announces the domain's support against the Demon King and his marriage to Yona in the same breath - he never did do anything slowly!
Tumblr media
After the announcement, we discuss what we know. He agrees that it was not truly Zelda who attacked Dorephan, and he agrees that we need to know more.
I wonder if Tulin or Yunobo have found out anything? It's been over a month since I left Goron City. And almost two since I left Rito Village. I should do some base-touching once I've said my goodbyes in the domain.
Muzu is headed to Lookout Landing - I'm sure I'll see him there. Khira and Chroma are now Queen's Attendants, and have been tasked with finding my Zora's helm - which is in a sky fish? Could it be the same sky fish which held the puzzle of the droplet before? I should find it, if only to stop Khira from bullying Chroma about it.
Tottika mentions a cave with a glowing rock - a shrine? It's southwest of here, in Ralis Pond Cave. I'll make a note.
Impa is here! She wants to know if I've seen the geoglyph in the Gerudo Highlands that looks like a person - I have not. I should go there next, anyway. Gerudo Town and Lurelin are on Purah's list of places in trouble, and I haven't been to either yet.
Yona is working with Jiahto to also find the Zora greaves - they think they might be at the waterworks. I suppose I can visit again.
Cleff ate a bright-eyed crab whole, and is obsessed with them now. He wants ten, but I only have three. Maybe one day.
Fronk's wife Mei went to a floating place for fish, somewhere across the East Bridge. Is this the same wife who once jaunted all the way to the Rutala River? I'm sure she'll be fine, but I'll keep an eye out.
Now, to get to that sky fish island, I should go… actually, no. I'm exhausted, and the sun has set.
I need to sleep. I head to the inn, but Kodah wants to tell me a story he and Finley found in an ancient manuscript. It sounds like there's a shrine at Tarm Point, southwest of here. That's nice. Finney and Sasan are already checking it out, so I'll leave it to them for now. Now… sleep.

Ok here’s the next fic I wrote! It’s based after the battle in AOC called Heart’s Escort, so this is obviously a Miphlink fic lol. The battle itself is very similar in game but theres stuff before and after that I added. From Mipha’s pov which was surprisingly very fun to write! Enjoy!
Heart’s Escort
The rain fell gently as Mipha sat upon Vah Ruta. The water spewing from the trunk covered all of Zora’s domain, and it brought Mipha peace. It hardly ever rained in the domain, and the divine beast kept the Lanayru province from going into a drought. Though it was artificial, it was better than nothing.
Ever since Vah Ruta entered Mipha’s life, she had something she never had before. Time to herself. As princess, she was always doing lessons and helping her people. As a daughter, she was always being with her father and helping him with whatever he needed. And as a sister, she would watch over and protect Sidon. She loved her family and her people more than anything, but it was nice to get peace and quiet where she had no expectations, just her and the divine beast.
She sat there as the rain fell on her, which relaxed her more. She closed her eyes, focusing on the feeling when the rain hit her scales and listening to the pitter-patter of the rain when it hit the divine beast. She sat there for a long time, letting herself get lost in the moment, and when she finally opened her eyes, she noticed something different.
Out of the reservoir, watching her, was him, Link, the Hylian champion. Her heart fluttered and she stood up. How long has he been standing there? Was he trying to call for her? If so, she couldn’t hear him at all. She patted her face and let out a huff.
Do not embarrass yourself Mipha, she thought to herself. Too many times has she stammered around Link and became a bumbling mess. She needed to compose herself. She jumped off Vah Ruta and dove beautifully into the water, swimming as quickly as she could to the surface. When she poked her head above the water, she saw Link watching her, a slight smile on his face. Her heart fluttered again. He rarely smiles like that anymore. It was always a blessing to see it. She pulled herself up onto land and walked over to him.
“Link, it’s so wonderful to see you here,” she said with a smile. He smiled back and bowed his head slightly.
“Hello Mipha,” he greeted with his soft voice, it was so nice to hear him speaking again.
“I’m so sorry I didn’t notice you at first, I didn’t keep you waiting long, did I?”
“Oh… no, it was only five minutes,” he scratched the back of his head. “Makes sense if you can’t hear me with all this rain.”
Mipha looked down, her hands in front of her clasped together. He watched her for a moment and stepped closer.
“Is everything alright?” He asked.
“Oh… I’m alright. I’m just tired. Me and Vah Ruta worked hard last week.”
He nodded in understanding. Both were champions, it was a demanding task for them.
“It can’t be easy being princess on top of it,” Link said softly. Mipha looked up and smiled.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
He smiled again and looked down, which reminded Mipha of a question she had.
“What are you doing here Link? Not that I don’t like you being here of course but…” she looked down bashfully. “I love having you here, but you never have time to visit…”
Link gave a small chuckle. “I like being here too. If I had more time I would visit more…. But… it is what it is.” He sighed. “I was sent here by Zelda to investigate some monster activity.”
“Oh?” Mipha hasn’t heard of any monster activity that would need the hero. Has she been that distracted? Was this something that she should’ve known but spent too much time to herself?
“I-I must’ve not known about that…” the shame in her voice was apparent, and Link put his hand on her shoulder.
“You were in Death Mountain last week right? You probably didn’t know. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
She looked up at him. His soft voice was enough to make her fall more in love with him. And the warmth of his hand on her shoulder made her heart beat against her chest. She shook her head and composed herself.
“As princess I need to know as much as I can.”
Link let out a little snort, which surprised Mipha. “You and Zelda are the same. Always overworking yourselves. It must be a princess thing.” He teased.
Mipha rolled her eyes with a smile and began walking to the domain. “Is Zelda here?” She asked.
“No. I… wanted to come here alone.”
“Really? How come? You’re always with her.”
“I just… wanted to spend some time with you alone.”
Mipha’s breath hitched and she could feel her heart almost bursting out of her chest. She stared at Link who shrugged, looking embarrassed.
“You said you wanted to spend time with me right? I figured since I’m leaving tomorrow that I’ll spend tonight with you.”
Mipha couldn’t help but smile. She wanted to spend time with him not only to rekindle their friendship, but also to make their relationship something more. The fact that Link at least felt the same way about their friendship made her the happiest zora in the whole domain.
“I’m happy you decided to do that Link. It means a lot.”
He smiled back at her and they walked in silence for a moment.
“Link, do you need an escort? I am not doing anything important.”
“An escort? For tomorrow? No… I mean… as much as I’d love for you to go with me, it’s nothing special, and you look like you need a break anyhow.”
“It could be dangerous though.”
“I’ll have two zora captains with me. I already discussed it with your father.”
“Well, alright. I trust your judgment. If you believe that you’ll be fine then, I believe you too. When will you get back?”
“Dunno, probably in a day or two.”
Mipha looked down. She might have to depart on Vah Ruta again soon.
“I’m not sure if I’ll be here if you make it back,” Mipha whispered.
Link gave her a sad smile. “Then let’s enjoy this moment together while it lasts, alright?”
Mipha smiled and got closer to him, her heart fluttering. Oh if father saw her now, she would never hear the end of it.
~~~~~~~~~~
Mipha watched exhausted as Vah Ruta made its trek back to Zora’s Domain. She did happen to be called to action the day Link left, so she couldn’t even say goodbye to him. The battle with Vah Ruta was hard for her. She had a serious time crunch to defeat all of the enemies before they attacked central Hyrule. She almost didn’t make it. It was so draining that she didn’t feel any relief when it was over. She stared ahead as the domain came into view. Sidon was probably watching her right now as the divine beast moved forward. They rarely got to spend time with each other since she became a champion. He always waited for her to come home and sometimes she was able to see him waving at her with his guard. He clearly missed her so much.
She sighed and rubbed her eyes. So much to do, such little time. She was grateful she was given the ability to help her friends and her people, but it was such busy work. She felt that she didn’t have time to be with her family anymore. So when she got to the reservoir, she decided not to have alone time.
She jumped down from Vah Ruta and headed straight to the Domain to see her father. She greeted every zora that met her and jogged to the throne room, where her father stayed. He smiled softly when she walked in, relieved to see she was fine and well.
“Mipha, welcome home, you were gone for a while.”
“Yes,” she sighed, sitting by his throne, “it was a lot, but I’m just glad I made it out in one piece.”
King Dorephan patted her little head gently. “I’m happy that you’re safe as well.”
They sat there in silence, Mipha enjoying the time with her dear father. After a moment she sat up.
“How is Sidon? I hope he’s not missing me too much.”
“He’s been fine Mipha, do not worry about him. He has been missing you but he understands why you need to go away.”
“Hm, where is he?”
“With the maid. It’s almost time for him to sleep.”
Mipha sat up. “Oh Nayru, it’s that time already?”
“Language Mipha.”
“Sorry… but it passed by so quickly.”
“It did, didn’t it?”
Mipha laid back down with a sigh. She felt like her life was slipping away, things were happening too fast. Dorephan put a comforting hand on her head and she closed her eyes. Until something crossed her mind. She sat up again.
“Father, how was Link when he returned from his mission?”
“What?”
“His mission. What happened? Was he alright?”
Dorephan stared at her for a moment, a face that made Mipha concerned.
“Why… Link and those zora haven’t returned just yet.”
“What?” She stood up and got closer to her father. “But I’ve been gone for 3 days!”
Dorephan raised a hand to calm her. “Do not fret my dear. Perhaps it wasn’t what he expected, I’m sure he’s fine.”
Mipha looked down. It shouldn’t have taken this long to deal with some monsters. And if it was more serious, it was just Link and two zora captains. They could be in danger!
“You don’t believe they’re ok, do you?” Dorephan said with a sigh.
“No. I trust Link’s strength and ability, but he’s only a Hylian! A strong Hylian no doubt, but there’s only so much he could handle. If there’s dangerous monsters, they’ll be severely outnumbered!”
Dorephan frowned. “You’re going after them aren’t you?”
“I can't just sit here and do nothing!”
“But you’ve been helping people so much my dear. We can send troops to assist them, that way you can rest.”
Mipha huffed in frustration. She wanted rest, but she couldn’t sit around and do nothing when people were in danger and she could do something about it. She couldn’t rest when Link was in danger. She needed to protect him. She promised she would always protect him. Dorephan sighed again and smiled.
“If you believe that they need help, then go, but please know your limits Mipha. I pray it’s nothing serious.”
“Thank you father. I will be very careful. I just want to be sure that they’re alright, and… I would never forgive myself if Link got hurt.”
Dorephan gave her a soft look of understanding and nodded.
“Be back soon Mipha. If they’re fine, I want you back here resting. Understand?”
“Of course father! Thank you!” Mipha turned around and grabbed her spear, sprinting to where Link said where the monsters were. She hoped that they were safe. She prayed that they were safe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mipha ran through the rain, hearing cries for help, her heart sinking when her instincts were right. The zora captains were in danger, and she heard their pleas as she fought through monsters blocking her path. She strained to listen for where she heard the cries, and she saw a clearing where a captain was facing off monsters.
“Hold on! I’ll try to rescue you all!” She called out, not caring that they didn’t hear her. She sprinted to the first guard she saw who was fighting three moblins. He was fighting valiantly, but Mipha knew that one wrong hit would be his undoing. She launched herself at the Moblin and blocked its attack, protecting the captain.
“L-lady Mipha! You’re here!” The captain cried, almost collapsing in relief.
“Do you still have strength in you?”
The captain nodded. “With you here, I can keep going forever!”
Mipha nodded and began fighting. The situation was much worse than she expected, the monsters were nearly overwhelming for three people, and seeing how long they were away, they were probably in horrible shape. Mipha needed to heal this guard, and fast so she could find the others.
After some struggle, the moblins finally died, leaving behind straggling monsters. Mipha grabbed the zora captain and led him to safety where she could treat his wounds. He practically collapsed on the ground as she healed a noticeable wound on his leg.
“What happened?” She asked.
“We were just going to investigate a cluster of monsters. They’ve been leading us here where they ambushed us. We just… didn’t think this would happen.”
Mipha put a gentle hand on his arm. “You fought valiantly, thank you. Now please stay here and take care of yourself. I’m going to find the others.”
The zora captain smiled and nodded, and with fire running through her veins, she sprinted as fast as her legs could take her. She plowed through a wizzrobe and ran into a small area where the other zora captain was. This one was in much worse shape as he was barely standing on his own. Mipha leapt through the air and stabbed her spear through the Moblin attacking him. She killed the moblins as fast as she could, then without hesitation, turned to the zora captain. If these two were this wounded, she feared for Link, who did not know his limits.
She rested her hands on the captain’s side which was bleeding profusely. His cries of pain began to quiet as his wound healed itself.
“Tell me, where is Link?” Mipha asked, an edge to her voice. The zora captain opened his eyes and gave Mipha a distressed look.
“I don’t know… he ran off to fight monsters back there,” he pointed to the hill where monsters swarmed near, and Mipha felt her heart drop. She rested her hand on the captain’s shoulder.
“Please take care of yourself, I’m going to rescue Link.” Mipha stood up and clenched her spear. The zora captain attempted to stand as well but didn’t have the strength to do so. Mipha rested her hand on his shoulder. “You are not strong enough, I’ll go save him.”
“B-but princess,” the captain started, worry in his eyes, “you mustn’t go alone, these monsters are ruthless.”
“Trust me, I will not let them stop me from saving him,” Mipha said darkly, and the captain had a shocked expression on his face. He nodded slowly and sat back down.
“Be safe princess. Please.”
Mipha nodded and took off running, determined to find Link before it was too late. As she sprinted up the hill, she heard the familiar roar of a hinox, but something about it was distorted and wrong, and Mipha’s heart dropped when she realized that it was a malice hinox. Malice strengthened the monsters significantly, making them nearly impossible to fight alone. Depending on how long the zora captains were fighting for, Link would be exhausted, and from the sounds of the roar, the hinox wasn’t even close to being defeated.
Mipha reached the top of the hill and gasped when she saw a small blue figure in the middle of the open area. It was Link, hunched over and holidng himself up by his sword. He looked tired, but not ready to submit just yet. The hinox roared again and went to jump on Link, nearly crushing him, but he barely dodged out of the way. The hinox spun around and shot out its hand towards Link, threatening to hit or grab him. Link let out gasp and braced himself, but Mipha got there first.
“I will not let you harm him!” She shouted, slicing the monster’s hand as hard as she could. The hinox shrieked and backed away, holding its injured hand gently. Mipha turned to Link who looked at her with relief, but that quickly went away when he looked at something behind her. Mipha turned around and saw the hinox trotting over to them, hands raised in the air. Mipha grabbed Link and practically dragged him out of the way before they could get crushed by the hands.
“Stay down, Link, I’ll take it from here,” Mipha said breathlessly. Before Link could respond, she charged at the hinox, pulling out her Sheikah slate as it started to roll. She put it in stasis while it was mid air and started bombarding it with attacks. As the countdown on the rune started to go down, Mipha backed up and watched the hinox get launched in the other direction. Though it didn’t go as far as a bokoblin, it was still satisfying for Mipha.
As she waited to see if it was still alive, she saw something from the corner of her eye moving towards her. She turned and yelped as it was a silver Moblin charging at her. But the blow was blocked by Link, who stubbornly did not stay down.
“Link!” Mipha gasped, and he looked at her, gesturing to the hinox with his head. She turned and saw the monster stand up slowly and she understood. She needed to kill the hinox, and though Link was weak, he could hold his own against a Moblin.
Mipha focused all her energy on the malice hinox, fire burning through her veins. Her desire to protect Link, the captains, and her home overwhelmed her, and she fought with such ferocity that the hinox couldn’t hurt her. When it did she would summon water around her to heal her, while hurting hinox. It smashed its fists against the ground, shot out malice from its mouth, and even tried to body slam Mipha, but she was determined to win.
She turned to Link to make sure he was doing alright, and she watched him long enough for the Moblin he was fighting to die. She quickly brought her attention back to the hinox and jumped up as high as she could, using water around her to lift her up to the hinox’s level, and she drove her spear straight into the hinox’s eye. It let out a pained wail before quieting down, the life exiting its body. Mipha sighed and turned to Link, who was watching her. She went to walk towards him when he suddenly ran to her, dragging her away before tripping on the ground. Mipha yelped as they both fell, but was thankful for it when she heard a large thud, seeing the dead hinox inches away from them.
“Thank you,” she whispered, and Link gave her a half smile. She sat up and looked him over, finding no immediate injuries. “Link, where are you hurt?”
Link let out an exhausted sigh. “It’s… I… here,” he muttered out, gesturing vaguely to his body. Mipha watched as his hand moved around his stomach, and she decided to search herself. His body was littered with bruises and aches, but Link was able to avoid any serious injuries, thank Nayru, he was just fatigued. She healed each bruise and each scratch on his body, watching him slowly start to relax more. His eyes were shutting closed and his breathing started to even out. She smiled at him and moved up his body, healing even the smallest wound she could, and finally she got to his face. He had a bump on his forehead, covered by his bangs, but it wasn’t too terrible. She leaned forward and kissed the spot gently without thinking, pouring all her magic in that spot. When she pulled back, Link had his eyes open and he had a small smile which nearly sent Mipha into panic. But he closed his eyes again and finally fell asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The group didn’t head back home until a few hours later, mostly due to Mipha being just as tired as them. Not only did she fight as hard as she could, but she also overextended herself in her healing magic. Link and the zora captains were determined to coddle her as much as she coddled them, and with time they were all well enough to go back home with no issues. Dorephan was worried out of his mind for his daughter, but gave a sigh of relief when she walked through the doors. Mipha was surprised to see not only her father though, but she also saw Impa and princess Zelda there as well. Zelda gave a relieved smile when she saw Link, Dorephan must’ve told them about Link missing.
“There he is!” Impa called out, and the two women ran to Link. Mipha stood back and stared at him as the two hugged Link.
“Link, I was so worried about you,” Zelda said, looking him over, “you’re not hurt are you?”
Link shook his head and gave a slight smile.
“What exactly happened out there Link?” King Dorephan asked.
One of the zora captains stepped up. “We were investigating a monster camp, your highness. When we went to eradicate it, reinforcements kept showing up. We were fighting for three days straight, but the numbers never dwindled. We would’ve fallen if not for Princess Mipha coming to our rescue.”
Mipha looked down, already feeling the embarrassment from the praise.
“Thank you Mipha,” Zelda said with a smile, “if not for you, our hero and captains would’ve been lost.”
“I’ll do it again if I must,” Mipha looked over to Link longingly, but he was staring straight ahead.
“Don’t you think this is strange, princess?” Impa muttered, her finger resting on her chin. “Monsters don’t have that type of reinforcements.”
“I was thinking that as well,” one of the zora captains cut in, “I couldn’t help but feel that it was all a trap. Not enough monsters for us to think that we were in danger, but too much to exhaust us. And then a malice hinox showed up and—“
“A malice hinox?” Zelda cried out. “Why… Astor… he must’ve been behind this! Only he can create such creatures!”
The mood in the room shifted from relief to worry quickly, and Mipha looked over to Link who was stone faced.
“Astor must’ve lured Link in to take him out, that way the hero is out of the picture,” Impa theorized. She turned to Zelda. “He was probably hoping that you’d be there too. That way he could kill two birds with one stone. It’s a good thing Link told you to stay back.”
Zelda looked down, and the silence that fell was suffocating. Mipha took a deep breath and stepped towards her friend.
“Well we are safe now, and we know Astor is going to target the vital pieces to fight against the calamity. We will watch our backs, and we will protect each other.” She gave Zelda a reassuring smile. “We will be fine. You awakened your power and we still have the hero. The calamity does not stand a chance.”
Zelda smiled back at Mipha and nodded. “Right. Thank you Mipha.”
Mipha smiled and glanced over at Link, who was smiling slightly at her.
“Well, King Rhoam wanted us back soon but, it looks like you still need rest, Link,” Impa muttered, and Link waved her off.
“I’ll live.”
“Are you sure? Because I’m not going to carry you if you pass out.”
“I’ll live,” Link repeated, more annoyed.
Zelda giggled and they began to walk away, with Mipha watching them. She watched solemnly, staring hard at Link’s back. Already he was leaving, already she was going to be sitting around wishing she could be with him. She wanted so badly to be by his side, to be with Zelda and Impa. She watched as they got farther away, her heart hurting more and more, until Link turned to look at her, and the same sad longing was in his eyes. He smiled reassuringly, and then he turned away and left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She was back on the divine beast, laying on her back so the rainfall would hit her face. She hid it well, but she was exhausted, both mentally and physically. The time she spent with Link kept going through her mind, and the emotions she was feeling was getting overwhelming. Did he love her? Or did he just want to stay as friends? He mentioned how he wanted to spend time with her alone, but what did he mean by that? She wanted him to be here, she wanted to be with him. She wished that he was her bodyguard. So many things she wished were different.
She opened her eyes and sighed. She was glad that he was Zelda’s bodyguard. Mipha has been trained in spear fighting, but Zelda wasn’t trained in any form of combat. She needed the protection, and with Astor attacking Link, she feared for his and her safety. But still, being a bodyguard and champion made Link busy. The time she had with him was scarce, and she missed him so much when he wasn’t here. She sat up when the overthinking started to annoy her and saw her father watching her. She sighed and dove off the platform, not wanting to waste any time. Her father barely left the throne room, so when he did, it was serious.
When she surfaced, he walked towards her, and sat at the edge of the dock. She pulled herself up and sat next to her father, resting her head on him.
“Mipha,” he started, “how have you been feeling?”
Mipha looked up at him, slightly surprised, but she should’ve figured he’d know that she wasn’t happy.
“I…. Haven’t been feeling well father.” She whispered, resting her head again. He wrapped his large arm around her.
“I figured my dear. Was it at least good to see Link again?”
“Yes.”
Dorephan was silent for a long moment. “You still love him?”
Mipha made a small noise of surprise, but then hugged in frustration. “Yes, yes I do! I still love him! And I miss him! And I wish that he could visit me more and I wish that I could visit him more, but… there’s never enough time!” She felt her voice shake and she curled up, feeling the tears pour out of her eyes. Dorephan gave her a gentle squeeze.
“The calamity has been hard for everyone my dear. It’s been keeping us from being with the people we love, I understand that.”
“I know… I know it’s not anyone’s fault except for the calamity I just… I wish it wasn’t the case.”
Dorephan rubbed her back with his knuckle. “Me too my dear. Me too.”
They were silent for a moment, listening to the rain that Vah Ruta produced.
“I’m proud of you, Mipha,” Dorephan broke the silence.
Mipha smiled slightly. He’s said that to her so many times. “I know, father.”
“Look at me.”
Mipha frowned and looked up at him. He had a stern look on his face.
“I am proud of you Mipha. I know this hasn’t been easy for you, I know you’re overextending yourself and I know you’re exhausted. But you persevere. You keep moving. You keep trying to help people. And I’m proud of you for having a good heart.”
Mipha looked down. She didn’t feel like she was doing a good job with all this pressure on her shoulders.
“Mipha.”
She looked back up.
“You saved two of our guards, and the hero of Hyrule, because you followed your instinct. Your desire to keep people safe saved our hope for Hyrule.”
“I… I guess. But… I didn’t do that for Hyrule,” she said softly.
Dorephan titled his head. “No, but you still saved them. You saved them because you followed your heart. Your love for Link, your love for your people, your compassion and care, it’s what saved them. And we need that. So, I am proud of you, and I’m proud of the young zora you’ve become. I’m sure your mother would feel the same.”
Mipha felt a lump in her throat at the mention of her mother. Her mother was a more strict and intimidating zora, and Mipha wanted nothing more than to make her proud. She hoped that her mother was proud of her and Sidon…
She buried her face in her father’s arm and wept. Her father picked her up and held her close to his chest as she let all of her emotions out.
“There there Mipha,” her father whispered, “it will be over, peace will return to this land, and it will all be over. But for now, cry. I’ll be with you until you’re done.”
Mipha snuggled in more and sniffled, feeling her father’s heartbeat, hearing his breathing, allowing it to relax her, and she let herself be held in her father’s arms.

~~~ <> ~~~
Months passed as you settled into your new lives. Life in Hateno was relaxing, which felt odd to you when you’ve spent the majority of your life on high alert at all times. Within time your wounds from the Yiga had healed completely, though you were left with a long scar on your bicep and a few minimal scratches along your torso.
The princess hadn’t yet completely reinstated you as her knight, claiming you still needed more time to recover from the mental stress. But the last thing you wanted to do was sit around, wasting away. So instead you dedicated yourself to offering assistance to the people of Hateno village. Killing off a monster camp to protect the rancher’s flock of sheep, finding various weapons to show to a curious boy, even collecting a handful of crickets for a man who wanted to use them as a gift.
The people of the village were grateful, giving you rupees and cooked meals. Eventually, however, you ran out of people to help within Hateno. So you began to travel to offer your assistance. From Kakariko, to Lurelin, to the various stables, you traveled back and forth with the aid of your steed to help any in need.
Whenever you could spare a day or two, you’d travel to Zora’s Domain to pay Prince Sidon a visit. Even though the council had recently been giving the prince more and more work, he would still eagerly make time for you. As of late he’d been showering you with various gifts, which according to the guards was another aspect of Zora courting rituals. If there was ever a day where Sidon could get away from his diplomatic work for more than a handful of hours, you would graciously spend that time together alone, away from prying eyes.
At the same time, Zelda was starting a new project. The construction of Lookout Landing was going smoothly, so the princess set her sights on a new goal: building a school. One night after having dinner she was excitedly explaining it to you, sharing how she and Symin were going to work together to usher in a new age of academia.
“Oh, you simply must see the plans,” she said with a grin, “it’s going to be the most precious building. Bolson and Hudson will be offering their construction expertise of course. In the first iteration it’s going to be a school for the younger children, but in the future I hope to expand to higher education for adults as well.”
Ever since moving the princess had a new air about her. More confident, more determined, and more hopeful. Her newly short hair bounced as she spoke, the blonde strands catching the light of the oil lamps around you.
“It sounds exciting,” you smile, leaning against the dining table, “do you know if any of the parents here are interested in sending their kids to school?”
She nods, “yes, the mayor has a young son, and I’m sure if the mayor gives the school his approval that even more families will be influenced to allow their children to join.”
You can’t help but chuckle, “Zelda, you’re the princess, the fact that you’re running the school is the only approval it needs.”
“Perhaps,” she smiles, “and how have you been fairing?”
“Good, good I think,” you reply, “it feels good to be useful. Unfortunately I seem to be running out of people to help.”
Zelda perks up at this, “oh, you’ve just reminded me. When I was speaking to Hudson about the construction of the school, he mentioned something quite intriguing to me. The development of a new town. He said it would be in the Akkala region, far north of here- and he also mentioned how he’d likely require assistance. Maybe you should inquire about it.”
“A new town…?” you repeat, “that does sound interesting.”
“You do have to pass through the Lanayru region to get there,” she adds with a cheeky grin, “perhaps you could stop by and say hello to your prince.”
“If you’re allowed to tease me about Sidon, do I get to tease you about Link?” you shoot back, sticking your tongue out at her.
She flushes with a roll of her eyes, “that’s different, I doubt Link would ever pursue me-”
You burst out in a loud, “HA!” that causes Zelda’s blush to darken even further. “Are you serious?” you ask her through laughs, “do you even see the way he looks at you?”
“Small glances are nothing compared to how Prince Sidon looks at you,” she retorts, “I swear, when the two of you are beside each other he looks at you as if there’s no one else that exists in the world.”
And then it was your turn to blush.
You’d become rather familiar with the feeling of the palace’s smooth flooring beneath your boots. A light sprinkle of rain fell from the heavens as you walked across the Great Zora Bridge. The Zora armor, which you’d recently retrieved from Impa, reflected the morning sunlight. You’d left Hateno rather early, with the hopes that you could both visit Sidon and meet with Hudson in a single day.
As you passed through the entrance you received your usual round of greetings, from the guards and shopkeepers, and even from the young Zora who ran around in their typical manner. During all of your visits the children- Tumbo, Keye, Finley, and Laruta- had become particularly fond of you and seemed to look forward to your arrival in the domain everytime.
In front of Mipha’s statue you pause momentarily, which has become customary on all of your visits, to offer your thanks to her. If it weren’t for her spirit, you weren’t sure if either you or Sidon would have survived that attack from the Yiga.
You quickly head up the stairs towards the throne room, but are caught off guard by two elder Zora who stop you just before you can enter.
“And what exactly is your business here today, Hylian?” one of them asks, an elder who’s fins remind you of those of a squid.
“Uh-” you stammer, “I’m here to see Prince Sidon?” Your answer comes out sounding like a question, since you assume it must be obvious what your intent is. It’s the same every time you return to the domain.
The other elder, with fins that resemble those of a sawfish, rolls his eyes, “your incessant visits are becoming a nuisance. We are preparing the prince for his eventual Kingship, all you do is distract him.”
A frown sets on your face, “haven’t we been over this before? Sidon has made it clear that regardless of my birth and status you have to respect me when I’m here.”
The squid-like elder barks out a laugh, “respect? I should think we’re showing you plenty of respect. By telling you that you have no place here, rather than lying to your face. Do not mistake the young prince’s kindness for lifelong mateship.”
“Clearly you don’t know the prince very well if that’s what you think,” you mutter, growing tired of the elder’s condescension.
The two Zora share a look before one says, “we know him well enough to know that you will never be his wife, let alone his Queen.”
You can’t stop the gasp that passes your lips. Normally you could ignore the comments from the council members, but something about this conversation struck a chord. Just as you begin to step back, someone else speaks up.
“Dearest? Are you alright?” At the top of the stairs Sidon is standing, a concerned look on his face. He glances between the two elders and then back to you.
“... I’m fine,” you mutter after a moment of silence, not wanting to cause a scene, “I was just here to say hello before I ventured to Akkala.”
You can tell that the prince doesn’t entirely believe your lie. He pads down the staircase and nods his head at the two council members, “you may leave us now.”
The two older Zora walk away, leaving you and Sidon at the base of the stairs. You fidget, the conversation having made you quite uncomfortable. “Will you be honest with me, now that they’re gone?” the prince asks, kneeling before you.
You’re keenly aware of the fact that there are plenty of Zora within ears’ reach who could overhear you.
“Can we discuss it somewhere else?” you ask in a quiet voice, “somewhere… private.”
He gives you a gentle smile, “of course.”
That’s how you find yourself at a small body of water known as Lulu Lake. A short walk east of the palace and two quick rides up the waterfalls of Mikau Lake brought you here. It was small and peaceful, with one final waterfall that would bring you near the peak of Ploymus Mountain. If you recalled correctly, it was this same set of waterfalls that you ascended with Sidon to help complete his trials.
Small lily pads and short grass sprouts from beneath the surface of the water, and surrounding the lake were colorful coral-like trees. You’d chosen to take a seat upon one of the sun-warmed rocks as you let your feet stay cool in the water. The prince opted to lay in the water instead, allowing the ripples of the water to wash over him.
You stare at the palace in the distance, eyes trailing over the large fish statue above the throne room. Out here, away from everyone else, you’re finally free to speak openly. After a few seconds of silence you finally speak up, “... they’re never going to accept me, are they?”
Out of the corner of your eye you see Sidon look up at you.
“The council will never accept me,” you elaborate, tilting your head towards him, “because I’m a Hylian. They’ll never approve of me.”
The prince sits up, your name just barely a whisper on his lips. “Darling… it will be an adjustment, with time they will come to understand their biases are wrong.”
“That’s what you say every time, and everytime I am here, nothing changes. It’s been months, and they still look down on me as if I’m a mutt, even after stopping the Divine Beast’s tantrum,” you huff, fidgeting with the fabric of your gloves, “do you know what they said to me just before? That I have no place in the domain. That I could never be your bride.”
Sidon frowns, glaring in the direction of the palace, “you mustn’t listen to them. They’re old, set in their ways, they have no perception of the way things have changed in the modern age. Let me have a word with them, I will set them straight.”
“It doesn’t matter how many times you speak to them, Sidon,” you sigh, sliding off of the rock to pace around the lake, “because whenever you’re not by my side, they will turn their noses up at me. They call me a distraction, they think I’m wasting your time, they probably refer to me as filth behind my back. They will never accept me, or our relationship, because I’m a Hylian.”
“Dearest,” he says, pleading as he walks towards you, “please, do not speak like that.”
“But it’s true isn’t it? Things would be simpler if I wasn’t a Hylian- if instead I were born a Zora. They would accept me then, wouldn’t they? Might even go so far as to say that they would like me as a Zora,” you retort.
Sidon kneels before you, gently coaxing you closer as he takes your hands into his own. He lets out a deep sigh as his eyes, somewhat murky and saddened, flicker across your form. “... if you ask the truth of me, I will not deny you. Though it pains me to say, I do agree that in another life had you been born a Zora, the council would be far more approving of our partnership.”
You stare into his eyes, nervousness bubbling in the pit of your stomach. You hesitate before speaking again, “... and you? Would you like me more if I were a Zora?”
You regret the question as soon as it comes out of your mouth. The prince’s expression falls, his grip on your hands loosening for just a moment. “Dearest? Where is this coming from? Have I ever given you such an inclination?” he asks, leaning closer to you.
“No- no, it’s just-” you stammer, ashamed at the way your insecurities came flooding out all at once, “nevermind. Forget I asked. I was just upset about what the council members had said to me. It’s a stupid question anyway, it’s not as if I can just transform my body.”
“Beloved, listen to me,” he whispers, “in all my life, out of any of the beings I’ve met in this world, it is you who captures my thoughts at every waking moment. You, in all of your courage and bravery and wit. In all of your beauty, charm, and candor. I would walk to the ends of the world just to feel the love you so generously share with me. I care not what form you take or how your body may look. With or without the approval of the council, it is you who I want to spend my life with. Even as we age, even in sickness. My affection for you will never change.”
Your heart pounds in your chest, though Sidon’s words immediately relax you and help to ease your worries. You throw your arms around his shoulders and hug him, hiding your face away as you do. “Thank you,” you murmur against him, “and I feel the same for you, always.”
The prince chuckles softly, “I’m glad to have helped you, dearest. Truly. It pains me to see you so forlorn, you know.”
“I’ll try not to be from now on,” you laugh.
“Ah, there’s that gorgeous smile,” the prince grins, leaning back to see your expression, “how else could I pull more smiles out of you, I wonder.”
“Hmm?” you respond, but you see the mischievous look on his face all too late.
Sidon tightens his grip on your waist as he falls backwards, dragging you down with him into the water. You shriek with laughter as the both of you make a splash, scaring away some nearby ducks.You yell his name, though there’s no anger in your voice, face hot from all of your giggles.
The afternoon hours pass as the two of you lie in the water together, talking and reminiscing and laughing. A thought passes through your mind, and as you admire Sidon’s bright eyes and handsome smile, you think of how lucky you must be to share a life with a being like him.
Much to your surprise, it didn’t take you very long to find Hudson’s location in the Akkala region. At some point during all your travels you’d met the Great Fairy Mija, who like her sisters was quite grateful for your presence and offered to mend and upgrade your armor. North of her fountain was a skinny, precarious looking piece of land that resembled a bridge over a circular lake. At the center of this lake was a large chunk of earth connected to this naturally formed bridge.
That was where Hudson had chosen the location for this new town.
On this faux island was a group of large rocks, a lone building, and a simple pond in the center with a prayer statue. You quickly found the architect, who was working away, attempting to break down one of the many boulders with his pickaxe. It looked like back breaking work.
“Hudson!” you called out as you approached, waving an arm.
Once you were standing in front of him he steps away from the rock, wiping sweat from his brow. He greets you with a simple, “hey. We meet again.”
“Indeed we do,” you smile at him, gazing around, “Princess Zelda mentioned to me that you had a new project here. So, what’s your plan?”
The Hylian man nods his head, his long hair bouncing, “the construction of Lookout Landing inspired me, and I spoke with Bolson. I’ve decided to build a new village from scratch. Every village needs a name, though. I think I’ll call it… Tarrey Town.”
“Seems like a good idea to me. Daunting task though, building a whole new town. How’s it going so far?” you ask.
“Well enough, however…” he trails off momentarily, “I built a house to store the village supplies in, but there just isn’t enough.”
“Enough?” you repeat curiously.
“Enough anything,” he answers, “people, money, stuff.”
You nod, taking another look at the surrounding area. If he keeps up construction at his current pace, it’ll take him months to complete all the work on his own. “Let me lend a hand,” you offer, looking back at him.
“But why? There’s nothing in it for you,” he questions, tilting his head to the side.
You can’t help but grin, shrugging your shoulders, “I don’t mind. I thrive helping others. Besides, after the calamity, I’d love to see some life returning to Hyrule.”
Hudson sighs, his shoulders visibly loosening, “thank Hylia, you’re a lifesaver. Well, I suppose to get started, we’ll need houses for people to live in. We can’t invite them until we have homes. Do you think you can bring me some wood? Ten bundles should be enough. If you bring me that, I can combine it with what I’ve already got and get started on new houses.”
“You got it, boss,” you reply cheekily, giving Hudson a salute before jogging away.
Within the storehouse you find a woodcutting axe and borrow it for the time being. Across the land bridge were a handful of trees, and after cutting a few down you get to work on chopping the wood down to size. You work up a sweat while doing so, and the evening sun still beating down on you isn’t helping. After an hour of labor, you have all of the necessary bundles, though you regret having left your horse at the stable as you wandered through Akkala.
Once you return to Hudson, you deposit the wood at the home and speak with him once more. He thanks you again and you ask what the next phase of construction will require.
“These boulders are driving me nuts,” he explains, ‘I want to move them out of the way so we can develop the land underneath. It’d really help me out if you could find someone with enough brute physical strength to bust them apart.”
“Physical strength… like a Goron?” you reply.
“Yes, a Goron would be my first choice,” he nods, “good luck hiring someone to travel here, though, it seems like a real long shot. Oh, and one last wrinkle… yeah, in accordance with the official Bolson Construction policy, that someone’s name must end in ‘son’.”
“... son?” you repeat, perplexed.
Hudson smiles, “yup. If you run into anyone that fits what I’ve said, try to send them here to Tarrey Town for me.
The heat of Death Mountain is sweltering. You trudge through Goron City in your flame resistant armor, but the fiery haze and high temperatures still make you sweat. It feels as if you spend the entire day in Goron City, stopping every Goron who walks by and asking for their name. There’s Bludo and Yunobo of course, neither of which have a name ending in ‘son’. It feels as if you’re searching in vain as you speak with Bargoh, Bladon, Fugo, Gonguron, Krane, Offrak, Pyle, Rohan, Slergo, Tanko, Tray.
You feel completely out of luck- until someone mentions the mines to you.
That’s how you find yourself in the Southern Mine, speaking with the workers after the sundown. A particular Goron sat by the fire catches your attention, as you hear him lamenting to his coworker that he feels as if he can’t use his strength to make a difference in the world.
“Sorry to interrupt,” you pipe up, adjusting your helmet, “but I couldn’t help but overhear.”
The Goron gives you a tired look, raising a brow, “what? Do you have a job that’d let me use my strength to make a difference?”
“Actually,” you grin, “I do.”
He immediately perks up, showing you more interest, “huh? Really? Where? Please, tell me more!”
“Tarrey Town,” you answer.
“Tarrey Town?” he repeats, “never heard of it. What’s the deal with the place?”
You explain the situation to him, how Hudson of Bolson Construction would like to build a new town from the ground up but needs assistance as he does. As you explain you ask for his name, feeling overjoyed when he tells you that it’s Greyson.
“Tarrey Town…” he mumbles, “so there is somewhere out there that needs me. Hmm, I guess Akkala isn’t too far from here. All right! I’m gonna do it! I’m gonna strike while the iron is hot! Thanks for lettin’ me know, lil’ guy! Pelison and I are gonna head there right away!”
Before you get the chance to ask who Pelison is, you watch as he calls out to a much younger Goron. A short kid looks up curiously, and you assume that they must be siblings. You watch as the two Goron brothers leave and practically want to jump in the air out of excitement.
‘Let’s go see what else there is to be done,’ you think to yourself, more than ready to get away from the heat of the volcano.
This starts a cycle of tasks over the course of two weeks, where you work alongside Hudson to build the town. Once Greyson had been able to clear away a substantial amount of rock, you needed to collect more wood to build more houses. After building more houses, Hudson confides in you that all the work has caused him to need a tailor to repair his clothing.
So you make way for the Gerudo Desert, searching for a tailor who would be willing to move- and also has a last name ending in ‘son’. You begin looking in Kara Kara Bazaar first, and you luck out once you meet a Gerudo woman named Rhondson.
She explains to you that in her search for a voe to marry, she’s mastered many skills, tailoring being one of them. You suggest that she move to Tarrey Town, not only for the job but also to aid her in her quest of finding a man to marry. When she agrees, your heart soars with joy.
Upon your return to Tarrey Town you see that two small shops have been established: one being Pelison’s, where he sells some of the gems his brother finds in the broken down rock. The other is Rhondson’s, where she sells some exclusive Gerudo clothing. While Rhondson doesn’t seem thrilled to be tailoring Hudson’s clothing on a daily basis, she is happy to be able to search for a voe.
After some discussion with Hudson he, yet again, requires more bundles of wood for further houses to be constructed. Once this has been acquired, Hudson discusses the construction of a general store with you for the distribution of goods. However, no one nearby has the qualifications to run such a shop. The two of you decide that looking around in Rito Village would be the best course of action.
Your visit in the Tabantha region is quicker than the rest. At the base of the village spiral you find a young Rito man with blue feathers sitting alone. You discover that his name is Fyson. He complains of a quarrel with his mother, how his mother runs the general shop in the village. The problem is that he doesn’t want to simply help her with the store, but instead wants to own a shop of his own. You eagerly explain the available space in Tarrey Town, and he agrees to fly there to see it for himself.
When you return to the Akkala region you’re thrilled to see that a new shop has been opened, run by Fyson himself. He happily shows you his stock, and you purchase a new bundle of arrows from him. When you reconvene with Hudson you are unsurprised to hear that he’ll need even more bundles of wood (this time, fifty) for the construction of the final few houses. After a few hours of labor in the forest west of the town, you manage to bring him the rest of the supplies.
“I actually wanted to talk to you about something a little personal…” Hudson says once you return to him.
“Something wrong?” you ask with a frown.
He shakes his head, “oh, not that kind of personal. Actually, I got engaged.”
Your jaw drops open without you meaning to, “what? That’s wonderful! Congratulations!”
“Thank you,” he replies simply.
“Might I ask to who?” you respond.
He looks up across the town and you match his gaze. You realize he’s looking at the small clothing shop. “To Rhondson,” he answers, a smile on his face.
You’re quite shocked to hear this but you don’t say so, not wanting to offend. “Oh, that’s amazing Hudson,” you grin, “I’m so happy for you.”
“Thanks again. Anyway, we want to have a little ceremony to celebrate, but we need someone priest-like to officiate. I know I keep sending you on errands, but do you think you could look for someone priest-like for us?” he asks.
After some thought, you decide the best location to find someone devout and ordained would be Zora’s Domain. After a night’s rest you begin to prepare to journey back to the Lanayru region. In all your trips to the palace, you didn’t recall meeting any priests. But perhaps you might get lucky.
Besides, you can’t deny how excited you are to visit your prince once more.
Even more Tears of the Kingdom thoughts (SPOILERS)
I cant figure out how long after Calamity this game is set. It's got to be at least some years, everyone else has changed but Link and Zelda
Link and Zelda have lived this time together in Link's house in Hateno <<33
Their Well holds Zelda's secret room
Also yes every well in this game has something so my favorite thing rn is just jumping into wells
Zelda had a school built to Hateno because she loves kids
I hate how so many people in this game who should know who Link is dont know him
You mean to tell Ive been living in Hateno for years and no one recognises me
Zelda is still referred to as princess which implies she hasnt allowed herself to be crowned queen
Ive spent like three hours just strolling in Hateno
I did get the camera and my enjoyment of the game has increased tenfold
HATENO TECH LAB HAS A RUINED GUARDIAN I REPEAT HATENO HAS A GUARDIAN REMAIN
Im so excited I missed seeing these everywhere
Purah's room has drawings of them and the divine beasts
You can just pick up the koroks who need to be reunited w their friends with ultrahand and carry them wherever they want to go. They also roll down hills
Me @ the forbidden ruins in Kakariko: "Let me in, let me innnn"
SIDON HAS A FIANCE
IM SO DISTRAUGHT
THEY SAW US SHIP LINK AND SIDON AND WENT "none of that here is his gf"
HUDSON HAS A DAUGHTER <<33
This game has cheese. I can die happy now
I am taking the elevator up every time I see a falling rock
Went to Akkala Citadel Ruins. Was looking at the views. SUDDENLY EVERYTHING GOES RED AND HANDS ARE CHASING ME WHAT THE FUCK
The way they dont let my boy have his long hair out on any fits is criminal. Could have tweaked the armor sets that much
Why is Zelda appearing everywhere and being an evil menace??? Zelda tf is going on w you?? Arent you supposed to be in the past
They looked at me, specifically, loving side quests more than my life and going "we have to give them more" and this is a good day
There's a golden horse???
Also I heard Yunobo is a dick in this??? Not my boy :(
I go to the Zora tower and there is a man nearly dead
ALSO OH MY GOD WHY DID ZELDA ATTACK KING DOREPHAN
Man was dying (Lets hope this doesnt age poorly because I dont think I could handle it)
So its been like five years at least since BOTW ended and like. Why does no one remember me and also where did all these new people come from that didnt exist here couple years ago?? Where were yall?? Having tea??
Kilton has a little brother <3
I should get back to the "first" main questline as in the Rito are dying in a blizzard but there's pretty flowers and mayoral elections
Did I already mention they did not nerf bows? They didnt and I love that, archers for life
Also I lost Hestu again and I need more inventory
I am afraid to venture into the Korok Forest
Stables are so fun. You get points from first visit, staying the night, registering horses etc AND THEY GIVE YOU REWARDS
I got the Traveler's Gear for General (my baby boy horse)
I found Big Horse and named him Babylon
Also saved this one guy stuck in a cave
Starting to get to a point where enemies drop 15-30 fuse power parts and life is getting easier
Ive activated like 20 shrines since I last did a bunch. I havent done them because what if I have to build vehicles (bad)
I miss cryonis
Havent done much in the sky tbh
I want my champions tunic. I however dont feel like going to the castle
Where the fuck is Ganondorf
I could always see him in BOTW I dont like this
I am kind of disappointed they didnt change the looks of old armor sets. HOWEVER. Cece's hat is all Im going to say. I wonder if I can wear that to Gerudo town
Im still a one shot to so many things
The Zora are dying (their water is turning into mud)
Gorons have malice pink eyes so dont trust theyre doing too well either
Barbarian armor fits so well with Link's messy long hair
Im still kind of shocked that the sheikah tech is just gone
How do I get into Hateno tech lab
Some of yall are actually building vehicles? Im avoiding that like the plague
Still salty about Sidon
I get taken for a little while and he gets engaged
His fiance did refer to Sidon as "my best friend"
The quote went "Im Prince Sidon's... oh forgive me. I am your best friend's fiancee"
She us cute but still
ALSO THEY MOVED MIPHA'S STATUE TO THE TOP OF PLOYMUS MOUNTAIN
THE ZORA'S DOMAIN STATUE IS NOW OF LINK AND SIDON
Why cant I marry him
Sidon carries Mipha's trident now (sobs)
When you meet him he goes "Its good to see you my friend" so happily
"By the way... I hope you know that I am truly happy to see you again after such a long time apart, my dearest friend"
I sobbed
He loves us so much
Just go visit him
Sidon wont marry me and Sonia and Rauru are married, cant a man find some love in Hyrule
Cont / X
A journey from the Sheikah Village to here, in the Domain, tends to be around a day or two of travel, unless the safer routes are taken but to Hinamori, it barely takes an hour, due to her method of traveling. She's just gotten to visit, partially to buy a few fishes and see how the natives were doing, in the aftermath of freeing Vah Ruta. Leave it to travelers to spread the good news.
Things looked pretty hectic, so she choose to find a lonelier space to settle down before needing to go back. Still, ending up striking a conversation with any of them, much less Sidon, hadn't been on her mind but she'll make do with it rather than awkwardly stand there, listening to the rushing waters below.
Perhaps an hello, would have done just fine but alas, she found herself asking something a bit more efficient, if not, personal. Hina can't help herself, unfortunately.
She listens on, without interjecting throught.
Tumblr media
''......''.
Expectations.
Oh, how she loathed that word.
And look where that got Link.
She dares not voice this, favoring to keep this for herself. Another one for the expectations jar, huh...
''I have a wonder'', the older woman utters before continuing.
''Are you 'you' or the things thrown your way?'', Hinamori inquires, expression unreadable. She's known for being harsh, in her kind of way but honesty is just as much of a weapon than simply some soothing balm.
Are you just some shadow held by strings or are you 'yourself'.
actually it kinda sucks that we had to lose all our items for game reasons...link's armor was made for him BY mipha...the disrespect...i hope we're able to get the same set back...
uh-oh, finley back at it with the letters. i notice they use the word "friend" here instead of whatever creepy bullshit they had going on last time lol
i, uh. notice dorephan's not in the throne room. buddy...am i gonna have to unmark my bingo card...they are still calling sidon PRINCE...
OH okay he's "not here," cool. alive for now...........
oh! they have link's armor for repairs! thank goodness
yona seems nice. it's a real shame lol. i WAS mistaken about her tits btw it was just the angle
"it is not set in stone that i (sidon) will inherit the throne, it's not about blood alone" written on this mural...yikes. lmao at people who were thinking he'd be king.......im so sorry babes he might get passed over
"sidon will be so delighted to see you he might just fly into the sky!" awww
OH...............mipha's statue IS up there at mipha's court!! according to npcs. time 2 go see it & sidon <3
id like to know how the Fuck im meant to get up to shatterback point when i cant swim up waterfalls smh. am i really gonna have to CLIMB...
you know i think there was supposed to be a walking path but i climbed it anyway. it took a real long time
oh EWWWW these sludge waterfalls.......over the place mipha hid her armor no less :(
man, visiting these locations, it really drives home that not only are the champions dead but not even their spirits are around anymore. which is great because they deserved peace, of course they did, but in botw you felt them everywhere, saw them everywhere, heard them whenever you used your abilities. in totk they're just GONE. no flashbacks. no cameos. nothing. it's an absence so keenly felt, now by you/link the way it was for everyone else prior to this...they're really gone forever, and we'll never see them again. death is real and it's in my nintendo switch
this is why i like a steady balance of gameplay/cutscene. you need time alone with your thoughts to think about this stuff you know. time to Digest the story. zelda is often really good about that - my favorite is when the environment tells a story, like in a dungeon, because really you tell it to yourself while you play
on a gameplay note, i fucking miss mipha's grace. it was a great second chance when i just wasn't carefully watching my health and i am NEEEVER getting it back
tia <3
Sidon returned to the grave marked with a circle of luminous stone every week to place flowers or just to pray. He'd buried the old man a couple of years ago and placed the stones himself after coming upon him one day, having intended to visit with him after having a strange feeling. The man had looked like he was sleeping in the grass with his eyes open, but Sidon realized quickly he did not have a pulse.
There had been no signs of any wounding, an attack or any violence; it just seemed that the man had gone to sleep, or laid back to look at the clouds in a daydream, and never woken. Sidon had closed the eyes and knelt by the body, mustering the strength he knew it would take to say goodbye to his friend. A friend whose name, ironically, he had never known, despite their many talks through the years. The strange feeling must have been only that, of the loss of their connection, feeling him go.
Sidon sat by the grave and considered the first time they had met. As he had (poorly) navigated the forest during an attempt to run away from home, he'd encountered the old man and his camp. The old man had been roasting apples over his fire, the smell of which had caused Sidon to go his direction as his stomach rumbled in hunger...
"No one ever lets me do anything important," Sidon complained as he chewed an apple. "I never get to kill Lynels or guard anyone. How am I supposed to be a good prince if I can't even kill anything?"
The old man had laughed at that, not unkindly. "Everything in its course, little one," he said. "You do look quite young."
Sidon puffed up his chest. "I'm not that much younger than my sister, and I know I could take on the Lynel if only they would stop interrupting me by trying to rescue me. They always do that when I'm fighting just fine on my own."
"Hmm. That very well may be so, but I am sure they mean well." The man grew reflective as he stared into the fire. "My son perished in battle many years ago."
Sidon's eyes widened. "He did? Who killed him?"
The stranger shook his head. "I don't know. I suppose I never will. I wasn't there, but I often wonder if I might have been able to save him if I had been there."
"Oh." Sidon forgot about his food for a moment as he considered that. It seemed to make the old man very sad. "Well, maybe you wouldn't have been able to save him. The enemy might have been too strong, and your son wouldn't have wanted you to get hurt trying to help him."
"Even so, I would have gladly traded my life for his. In a heartbeat." The old man sighed and shook his head, seeming to break his own trance. "I don't say any of this to make you feel sorry for me. Only that your loved ones probably cannot bear the thought of losing you, of being unable to protect you. When did you leave your home?"
"Only a few hours ago," Sidon confessed. The sight of the man's campfire had made him realize he did not know how to cook or even start fires. He'd always had an attendant to do those things for him. What use is a prince that cannot even start a fire? Yet another thing to add to his list of things he couldn't do.
"I'll bet they are worried sick about you. I know I would be, if I were your father."
The turn of their conversation had led Sidon to the conclusion that he needed to turn back for home, much to the relief of Dorephan, Mipha, and their people. Sidon had never told anyone about the old man or the kindness he had shown in walking with Sidon to the outer gates of the Zora Domain, but he wished he had. He wished he had at least told Mipha about him. Somehow, he knew his old friend wouldn't mind. He never wanted glory and had never even given Sidon his name.
I hope you are with your son now, my friend, Sidon prayed.
He supposed it could have just been a story that the old man had made up to give him an excuse to turn back without feeling like a coward. Even so, things could have turned out very differently if he had not done something to make Sidon hear wisdom that day.
I wish I had asked you more questions. The only time Sidon had ever seen him leave his spot in the woods was for the walk to the Zora Domain. I always talked about me, mostly. And he was always happy to listen, Sidon thought with a sigh. Even now, he manages to talk me out of my inflated sense of importance . . .
In a way, Sidon thought, he'd not lost his friend. The place where his camp used to be had become sacred. It had soaked in the gentle presence of his friend through the years and was now a place Sidon could return to whenever he felt the need. A sweet, gentle wind blew through the trees as Sidon leaned his head back and closed his eyes, listening.
Been thinking a lot about breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom lately.
There are 2 main things that I think set these games apart from each other: botw is way more focused, and totk gives you way more freedom.
More under the readmore because I don't want to clog people's feeds with a long post
Every playthrough I have done of botw has had a similar route: plateau, grab the hyrule field tower for map reasons then gtfo, kakariko village, zora's domain, rito, Goron, gerudo, grab memories and master sword, finish shrines, kill ganon.
The game has always gone this way for me because I feel like the game is not very subtle about order it wants you to do things in. If you try to go directly to hyrule castle you will be met with a fuckton of guardians which forces you to break east or west, most players will pick east because there's a really cool landmark in that direction that piques their curiosity (dueling peaks) and they also got a quest that is to the east (talk to impa). Dueling peaks happens to also be a solid way point on the way to impa. So you talk to impa and she's like 'hey do these 4 quests' and one of them happens to be quite close (zora's domain). If you head that direction you will constantly be harassed by Sidon and/or other Zora who are like 'you really should go toward Zora's domain asap. So you do. Then when you're done with the quest there you go 'okay what do I have to work with' and you realize the rest of the main quests are in places with climate effects. One of them, you at least know the work around for: the cold (you either know how to cook cold resistance food or have the warm doublet from the great plateau). So you go and do rito because it's in the cold area. So now you've got a choice: gerudo or goron, and goron is already in between places you've already been, so you pick that. You stop by the stable on your way up the mountain and npcs are like 'here have fire protection potions you're gonna need it' so you take them and you head up the mountain, obtaining more permanent fire protection along the way if you do a sidequest (which you should, it's on the path of least resistance up the mountain). If you pick up critters and food on your way up the mountain, you'll conveniently pick up ingredients that give you heat resistance *before* you get into gerudo desert.
In tears of the kingdom there is a path the game strongly encourages you to take first after the tutorial: going to rito first. The shrines in that direction are generally the easier ones, you run into hestu along the way to upgrade your weapons stash, you get one of the better mobility options in the game for completing it. But the game also pulls you in like 2 other directions at the same time. There's the first visit to the depths, and there's going to hyrule castle the first time. There's no natural 'oh shit' moment that forces the player to make a choice here like running into a bunch of guardians did in the first game. After you complete all three the game very slightly nudges you that goron is supposed to be next, and the only real hint they give you is that someone shows up in town and asks for directions to get there. I have never done goron second. In my first playthrough I did Zora second because Sidon. In my second, I did <spoilers> second because I thought it would be funny, and it was in fact funny (and difficult). I genuinely do not know what the intended order after goron is supposed to be. Nothing in the game's design really forcefully nudges you in any particular direction unlike botw. The game just kinda assumes you've played through botw and are familiar enough with its systems to handle whatever challenge you choose to take on. And that choice is cool because it lets you sequence break (for instance, by getting <spoilers, health gate> or <other spoilers, stamina gate> early), but it's also probably a bit overwhelming for people who don't play as many video games to just be told 'you can go anywhere in this massive game have fun'
Botw's design is way more inviting to people who want concrete goals to do because it has skill/knowledge walls to push you away from certain places and npcs who will pull you to other places, while totk is more inviting to people who can make their own goals by giving players way more creative freedom in how they approach the goals the game gives you and I think that's kind of neat that they designed essentially the same world in completely different ways to accommodate very different people.
Successors - Chapter Three - In Ruta's Shadow
The Champion’s Festival.
The rest of Hyrule might share a similar day of remembrance for the Calamity’s casualties, Horano did not know, but this one was strictly Zora.
It was to honor the sacrifice of Princess Mipha, who surrendered her long life to a set of Hylians that had not done any grand endeavors to win her favor.
Princess Zelda and Prince Link, they were dear friends of her lovely Mipha. But the elders had already turned against them. Stripped Link of his title, even. They were still angry about Mipha’s death, but Horano assumed they held a grudge against the gentle Wolfbred.
After all, he did reject Mipha’s marriage proposal.
But in the Hylian prince’s defense, he was already engaged to another. It was only fair to Zelda, who may have even been with child by that time. Horano did not know whether the golden little woman was expecting at the time Mipha proposed to Link, but that changed nothing. Link was already engaged to her, and had he been in love with Mipha instead, he wouldn’t have said yes.
Neither of them deserved the elder’s punishment, which involved “forgetting” to remember that Link was the Prince of Hyrule and Zelda’s husband. Not even Rhoam tried to make the world forget his daughter was married.
No doubt the elders would work to change Hylian history in the minds of future Zora youth, but that would not work on her: the shadow of the Divine Beast Vah Ruta, inactivated in the Rutala Dam’s waters, reminded her of the truth.
Horano truly believed that Mipha’s death was not a malicious act by either Link or Zelda, but rather a tragedy that was accounted for when Mipha accepted their plea. She was not a selfish soul, after all. While it did not lessen Horano’s mourning, especially on this special day, it was important to remember alongside.
Zora were beginning to gather at Mipha’s newly-finished statue. She wondered why they did not gather at Vah Ruta. Later today, she decided, she would visit the place where her princess fell. As she went to pick up the Lightscale Trident, she stumbled upon the small Prince Sidon. “Oh, my prince. Are you alright?”
His young eyes looked up at her. “I miss Mipha…”
“I do too… we all do.”
“Why did she go?”
“Because Hylia needed her…”
“Will Hylia need me?” His voice was so vulnerable.
“I don’t know, Sidon… but maybe. You’re the future of the Domain, if by some reason the Royal Family survived, Hylia will likely need you to help the kingdom.”
“Will I see Mipha again after?”
“Maybe. Only Hylia knows.” She braced his back. “But today, let’s celebrate your sister, how about that?”
Although the entire domain made an appearance at their late Champion’s statue, she was the only soul sitting in Ruta’s shadow. The quiet fit the somber mood, but she also wished someone had come.
After all, what better way to remember a late Champion than by spending time at their Divine Beast?
“Excuse me?”
Horano’s attention flipped to a tall woman standing at the entrance. At first glance, the woman’s clothing made her seem like a Hylian, but striking red hair and a muscled body revealed her to be a middle-aged Gerudo. She had been a confident soldier, it seemed, but she no longer had that Gerudo fury. "Yes, ma'am?"
"Would it be alright if I came and sat by Vah Ruta? I didn't know if it was Zora-only or not."
"You're welcome to sit here. It would be lovely."
"Thank you, kind Zora." The Gerudo came and sat beside her, looking up at Vah Ruta.
“If you don’t mind me asking, who are you?”
“My name is Esosu. Former Captain of the Gerudo Palace Guard.”
“You’re from Gerudo Town?”
“I used to be.”
Horano blinked in confusion. “Used to?”
“I fled when Chief Akeku succeeded Lady Urbosa. She rules the Gerudo with an iron fist, forcing them to abandon Hylia and Hyrule. I now live in Hateno Village, been there about a year.”
“Ah! We share something in common. Our elders are trying to force us to forget that Champion Link was married to Princess Zelda and Prince of Hyrule. They are angry at him for refusing her marriage proposal and then taking her to that fateful battle.”
“It’s sad enough that my people have turned against Hyrule. But the Zora have been long-term allies with them…”
“The King is still in favor of Hyrule, it is just some of our elders that are not.”
“Ah!” Esosu nodded in some relief. “What is your name?”
“I’m Horano. I’m a guard for the Zora Palace.”
“A small world!” Esosu declared with a few claps.
“Indeed.” They looked back up and the elephantine mechanical beast that rested noiselessly in the reservoir. “Do the Gerudo visit Naboris?”
“Not that I am aware of. We tried to find it right after Lady Urbosa fell, but couldn’t find it in the blowing sand. I left shortly afterwards; I don't know if they ever found Naboris.”
“How is the late prince’s family doing?”
Esosu startled a little at the sudden subject change, but promptly responded. “They still hurt. I don’t know if his father will ever heal… He didn’t lose just his son, but his son, his daughter-in-law, and their baby. I believe it was too much loss for his old heart. The Duchess will be alright, but I don’t think she’ll ever move on. Even a year afterwards, she still pulls me aside to show me something new that reminded her of her brother. The whole village still grieves, he was beloved by all of them.”
"Ah," Horano sighed sadly. "I hope her father will soon find peace, and that she will heal enough to live. She's got so much life ahead of her, it all will be wasted if she can't move on from her past… when her brother was alive…"
Kiss of Life (Breath of the Wild)
Sidon wants to show Link a special place that Mipha once showed him, an underwater cave. Little does he know that his time with Link will be plunged into chaos as an unexpected turn of events puts Link’s life in danger. An entry for Whumptober under the prompt “Running out of air”.
 Warning! Contains descriptions of drowning!
  Link’s latest visit to the Zora Domain was a quiet one at first. A few of the Zora waved at him as he passed by, including his old friend Bazz. He waved back. Out of all of the places in Hyrule, Link knew that if he ever needed to relax for a bit, he could go to the Zora Domain.
  The people there did still call him Hero, but there was one very important reason he made so many visits.
  “Link! Over here!” He heard a voice from above him, where Mipha’s statue stood. A large red Zora hopped down from the ledge and landed in front of Link, too excited to use the stairs. This was Sidon, Link’s biggest reason for visiting so often.
  Link smiled and waved at the other.
  “Link! It is good to see you! You’re not here one some Hero business, are you?” Sidon asked.
  Link shook his head.
  “Good! In that case, once you get settled, I wanted to show you one of my favorite spots around the Zora Domain. Ah… How good are you at holding your breath? We’re going to need to do a bit of diving.”
  Link signed that he’d gotten pretty good at holding his breath through his adventures.
  “Oh, that’s good! Even if you weren’t good at holding your breath, all you’d have to do is this…” Sidon tapped two fingers to his throat, “And I will spirit you back up to the surface as quick as I can! There is truly nothing to worry about so long as I am with you. You’re in good hands.”
  Link smiled again and gave Sidon a nod, repeating the motion to commit it to memory.
  “Yes, just like that. I’ll meet you by Toto Lake in an hour, sound good?” Sidon asked.
  Link nodded and the two went their own separate way for now.
---
  An hour later, Link made his way up the waterfall behind the Zora Domain using the special Zora armor that he had. Once he paraglided down to the ground, he began his search for Sidon. Luckily the Zora was easy to spot.
  “Link! You made it!” He exclaimed with a smile, approaching the hero, “This is Toto Lake. It has overlooked the domain for ages. Nobody really remembers what those ruins were in the center of the lake, but some Zora historians believe it was an ancient gathering place for early Zora. You’ve been here before, correct?”
  Link nodded and tapped a fist lightly against the metal plate on the helmet he was wearing. It was changed from its usual blue to a shade of red that matched Sidon’s and Mipha’s. He considered it a tribute to them, especially Mipha. He still remembered how flattered Sidon was when he first laid eyes on the outfit, and when Link had first told him the purpose behind it.
  “Oh, I see. You found the Zora helmet here, huh? Well that doesn’t surprise me. When Mipha was young, I heard that she used to play in this lake. She even took me up here once or twice. She’s the one that showed me what I’m going to show you.”
  ‘Really?’ Link signed, a smile on his face.
  Sidon nodded, “Well then, I suppose we should get to it. What I want to show you is at the bottom of the lake, but this lake isn’t really deep. Remember the sign I showed you and no harm will come to you.”
  Link nodded, a determined expression on his face.
  Sidon held a hand out to Link, who took it without hesitation, and together the two of them jumped into the water. Link took a big breath before he hit the surface.
  Link let Sidon pull him further down into the water. He was right, it wasn’t long until they reached their destination. He could still see sunlight streaming through the water, showing that they weren’t very deep.
  It took Sidon a few moments, but eventually, he found an opening in the wall at one side of the lake. As he led Link in, he noticed that the cave got darker the further in they went. That was when he saw Sidon pull something out from under his sash. It was a luminous stone. He handed it to Link and gestured around them, then blocked the light coming from the stone with one hand.
  The whole area lit up with Luminous stones. A big underwater cavern where the only boundaries were marked with thousands upon thousands of Luminous stones. It made the whole cave look like it was covered in stars.
  Link tried his hardest not to gasp and let all the air escape, but his expression said everything.
  “Beautiful, isn’t it?” Sidon asked.
  Link nodded slowly, carefully.
  “I mean just look at that. Who knew so many luminous stones existed down here, and that they could produce such a beautiful sight, but that’s not all that’s down here.”
  Sidon took his hand off of the luminous stone that Link had and led him to the middle of the cavern.
  “Go ahead, hold it up here.”
  Link nodded, slowly once again, and held the stone up in front of what looked to be a statue. Swimming up a bit with Sidon, he could make out a face, a distinctly Zora face. Thought it clearly had been eroded so much that details were impossible to make out.
  “Ever since it was discovered, this statue has been an enigma to my people. Nobody recognizes this Zora. It’s hard to find any distinctive features now that the water has done so much damage. They could have been one of our leaders, or a hero once revered by his people. Nobody knows.”
  Link looked awestruck, reaching out with his free hand and placing it on the statue. He’d seen so many like this that were worn away with age. Each one was fascinating to him.
  “So, what do you think? Pretty good little spot, right?”
  Link nodded carefully again, handing the luminous stone back to Sidon so he could sign, momentarily letting go of Sidon’s hand
  ‘Yeah, I’m glad you showed me this.’
  Sidon just smiled at Link.
  Suddenly, Link realized how low he was on oxygen. Still plenty left to get him to the surface, though. He wouldn’t have to worry.
  In the light of the Luminous stone, Sidon saw Link place two fingers to his throat. He nodded. As quick as he could, he grabbed Link’s hand and headed toward the entrance, tucking the Luminous stone away in his sash once more.
  He stopped when the cave shook around him.
  “No…” Sidon muttered, realizing what was about to happen, “No, I won’t let this happen!”
 He squeezed Link’s hand and sped up, going as fast as his fins could carry him, watching as the light that they were heading toward was extinguished. He was going so fast that he hit the pile of rocks that had fallen in the way of the entrance.
  They were submerged in complete darkness, save the Luminous stones scattered throught the cave.
  “No!” Sidon let go of Link’s hand and hit it again and again, “No! Please!”
  Desperately, Sidon started going up, searching for an air pocket at the top of the cave. He let out a noise of frustration when he found none and returned back to the entrance, digging at the rocks frantically.
  “No, No! My friend is going to die! Please!” Then he switched to addressing Link directly as he was digging, “Link! Hold on, Link! I’ll get you to the surface. You just have to hold on!”
  Link watched this happen, swimming in place, and focusing on preserving the breath he had left. There wasn’t much.
  He was going to die here, he realized, unless Sidon could break that blockade within the next few minutes.
  Sidon stopped what he was doing suddenly, having not gotten very far with it, and moved over to Link. He held the luminous stone up to him, the light showing the concerned expression on his face as he took in the sight of Link struggling to hold his breath.
  “L-Link, I’m sorry.” His voice sounded like he was crying, but his tears dissolved into the water, “I shouldn’t have taken you here. I should have known this was a bad idea. I… I…” Sidon choked on his own words, watching as Link weakly signed at him.
  ‘It’s okay. It’s not your fault.’ Link’s hands faltered as his body suddenly relaxed.
  “Link…” Sidon held the Hero close, “Link, no, please… you can’t leave…” The Zora sobbed, pressing his head into Link’s shoulder.
  Even a Hero like Link had Hylian limitations.
  Sidon could feel Link lift his hand up and drag it across his back, and then down to his side. It grazed lightly across his gills. Sidon let out a shuddering breath in response.
  That’s when it clicked.
  The reason he can breathe just fine under water is because his gills take oxygen out of the water and carry it through his system to his lungs. They were full of breathable oxygen right now, while Link had none.
  “I think I have an idea. Don’t panic, okay?”
  Link was unresponsive.
  Without even waiting for an answer, Sidon pressed his mouth against Link’s and started blowing against his lips. They were unyielding, which was a good thing in this case. The plan might not work if he’d accidentally swallowed any amount of water.
  Link refused to open his mouth at first, but as he fought through the fog overtaking his mind, he realized what Sidon was trying to do and opened it just a little, enough for Sidon to let air through.
  Sidon planted one hand firmly on the back of Link’s head so that the seal between them wouldn’t be broken and breathed air into him.
  He didn’t think this counted as a kiss. Sure he had a lot of admiration, respect, and love for the Hylian in front of him, but this situation was vastly different than one that required a kiss.
  Inhale through the gills, exhale through the mouth, he kept this pattern up for several minutes. It seemed to work. When he went to break contact, he closed his mouth a little and Link caught on, closing his all the way.
  Finally, Sidon let go and let his gaze linger on Link, making sure he’s okay. He resumed his swimming motions, so that was a good sign.
  Link gave him a thumbs up and that was all Sidon needed before returning back to digging at the tunnel entrance.
  It took a while, and a couple more stops to fill Link’s lungs up with air again, until Sidon finally broke through.
  “Link! I did it! I broke through!” Sidon grabbed Link’s hand and sped out of the cave and then straight upward. As soon as they surfaced, Link was gasping for air, the large breaths shaking his entire frame.
  The two of them made their way to the shore, Link flopping onto the sand as soon as he got there.
  “How are you feeling?” Sidon asked the Hylian, “That must have been pretty rough on you.”
  Link signed rapidly at Sidon, laying on his back on the sand.
  ‘My lungs burn, my limbs hurt, but other than that, I’m still here, still alive because of you Sidon.’
  “Ah well, I’m the one that got you in that predicament in the first place.”
  Link looked at Sidon, his expression stern all of the sudden, ‘No. I loved the cave, I’m glad that you wanted to show it to me. You could not have predicted the cave in.’ He signed.
  Sidon took a few deep breaths, the adrenaline finally wearing off, “You’re right. I would have been able to get you up to the surface in time if there hadn’t been a cave in. Still, I think we should stay away from anything underwater for the time being.”
  ‘Agreed’ Link replied in sign language, ‘Are you okay? You hit the wall pretty hard back there.’
  Sidon nodded, “My hands and back hurt a little, but it’s nothing compared to what you went through. Let's get you to an inn to rest, okay?”
  Link nodded in agreement, ‘so long as you rest too.’
  “I will. Don’t worry about that.”
Courting - Sidon x reader
Tumblr media
I couldn’t resist writing this, so think of it as a belated Christmas present
y/n - your name
y/e/c - your eye color
You two first met when your parents took you to Zora’s Domain as a child, as you were always travelling.
He was playing with Mipha in the domain’s center, along with the other kids of course, but you caught his eye, and he would not stop staring
Once your parents were busy looking at all of the items in the market, he ran up and introduced himself.
“Would you like to come play with us?”
Of course you didn’t refuse.
You thought the Zoras were so cool. They taught you some new ways to use a spear, because they knew you’d need it being a traveler.
Sidon thought you were the most amazing person in the world. He loved the fact that you got to travel, but he was a bit jealous about it.
You told him stories from different places you’d been.
And soon enough he was falling head over heels.
He took you to meet King Dorephan.
“Dad! This is y/n, and my new best friend!!”
Sidon did NOT want you to leave.
“Please promise to write. I’d love to hear about all of the exquisite places you get to visit. You’re so amazing!”
The first place you stop at, you immediately start writing.
For months, letters are all you have.
You start getting into the habit of sketching the landscape and portraits and sending him little gifts.
He starts doing the same at the domain.
After a long period, you return to the domain, and he immediately takes you into a hug.
“Where are your parents, y/n?”
“Oh! They decided to settle down in Hateno Village. But I desperately wanted to see you again, so...”
You two walk around the domain just chatting away about the past several years being apart. Somehow you both end up at Veiled Falls, sitting by the flowers and taking in the fresh air.
You both sit there in silence for a moment. You think it’s odd, because Sidon had always been so charming and talkative.
He places his hand on top of yours.
“You know, I really missed you, y/n. I was worried I’d never see you again.”
You laid your head against his arm.
“You know I’d come back sooner or later.”
He feels just like he did when he was younger. He can’t stop staring.
He leans in close and kisses your cheek, only to be surprised at himself for doing that.
“I am so sorry! I should have made sure that I wasn’t crossing any boundaries--”
“Don’t be.”
He’s relieved to hear you say that. He caresses your face and gazes into your y/e/c eyes.
“What...”
“You're so beautiful, y/n.”
He kisses you ever so gently, pulling you in closer than before.
You smile at each other for a moment, neither of you wanting to ruin the intimacy.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that…”
Sidon becomes very attached to you, and he’s with you CONSTANTLY
You obviously don’t mind though.
The elders find it odd (and somewhat offensive) that he’s dating a Hylian
But Sidon thinks you are the most beautiful and attractive person in the entire universe.
He brings you your favorite candies and flowers every single day, and he has special Zora armor made just for you.
You’ve only been there a week, and he has already taken you so many places around the domain.
You’re both back at the veiled falls eating a picnic lunch.
“So… when do you have to go? Because I don’t know if I can take being away from you for so long again.”
“Who said I was leaving?”
Read day 10 here or start with the masterpost
************************************
Day 11
"Hey boss, what are you doing here?" Mipha asked as soon as the back door had clanged shut after her and she began changing her jacket for her workwear. "Isn't today your day off? I mean, I have no problem with leaving if I'm not needed here."
"Just making some Hylia's Day gifts. Too lazy to make a mess at home with worse equipment."
Link crouched to watch the melted chocolate that dripped through the sieve, leaving perfectly round pralines on top. He squinted one eye shut to keep his slight headache at bay when he raised. Mipha had finished washing her hands and dressing in a scarf to cover her hair and joined him.
"Some? You are making chocolates for half Hyrule."
"Yep. And I'm far from finished."
"You sure your Nana should eat so much of them? Isn't diabetes a thing in her age group?"
"Nana hates chocolates." He chuckled. "Even if I make them."
Mipha switched the ovens on to preheat them for the afternoon round of bread and rolls and went over to the cooling room to get the prepared mobile shelvings. Just when Link sprinkled white chocolate as decoration over the chocolates, curiosity took the better of her, and she stepped up to him. "You won't tell what’s up—" With a frown, she stopped. "Is that you or are the chocolates infused with liquor?"
Link flashed her a grin. "You told me to go out, remember?"
Bouncing up and down in excitement, Mipha covered her mouth with her hands. "Oh, my goodness, you are hungover and you are grinning like an idiot! What's their name? Where were you? Did you get laid?"
"I had a very nice evening at the winery in Linebeck's Avenue. Did you know that they have a little bar, too?" Bathing in her boundless curiosity, Link put his tool back and leaned casually against the counter. "Very intimate. You should take Revali there for your anniversary."
"Maybe I will. But tell me more! Are they the reason for all these chocolates, too?"
"Yep."
Chuckling, Mipha checked the temperature of the oven and crossed her arms. "You are going 'all in', right?"
"Never hurts to be polite. And I can hardly show up for the holidays with empty hands."
"You are going to visit them for the holidays? How long is that already going? And what about your Nana?!" Mipha brimmed with excitement now, and Link's grin grew and grew. This was too funny.
"Don't worry, it's nothing official. Just a favor. And Nana… kind of gave us the idea."
The gears turned in Mipha's head and she only shrieked out of her trance when the oven beeped. "Okay," she said while she closed the door after shoving the first tray in, "who is it? I need a name to gush."
Link only answered when she had filled the oven with the remaining trays and pressed the button for the steam.
"Zelda."
The smile slipped from Mipha's face like snow from a roof.
"I know what you think. Don't worry. It's an agreement and we both know that it's only that."
"What kind of agreement? Nothing along the friends-with-benefits-line, I hope? That always ends with one falling for the other and it's no secret who that will be."
Link carried his chocolate-smeared tools over to the sink and began to fill it with hot water. "No. Nothing like that. You know that I'm not the type for that. And neither is she, as far as I can tell."
Mipha studied the floor, the oven gloves in her hands forgotten. "Link, I hope you don't mind my concerns. I don't mean to stand in the way of your happiness. If you find with her what you are looking for, I will no longer say a word."
"But?" With an eye roll directed at himself, Link rubbed the bubbles from his sleeves that had landed there when he had trashed the tools in the sink at her words.
"My brother Sidon is married to one of her cousins. I saw her at the wedding reception two years ago." She tapped the oven gloves against each other. "Never mind that she doesn't even recognize me. But what got me worried is how she treated her boyfriend for the two days."
Finally, Link wiped his hands on a tea towel and turned to give her his attention. "And that was how?"
"She just ignored him. He tried so hard to please her—he did everything for her. From carrying her clutch to bringing her drinks, everything. And she didn't care."
"Hm."
"She left without him after church because she forgot about him. He had to take a cab."
"Ouch."
"That's what I'm saying. I don't want you to be treated like this."
Link took a deep breath, feeling his pulse thrumming in his head. "I understand your concern, Mipha. I do. And I promise to remember your advice, okay?"
Mipha pressed her lips into a smile. "I hope I'm wrong."
"She gave me no reason to believe what you told me has anything to do with me. Plus, we are both upright about the fact that we are not dating."
"I know." Mipha sighed and peeked through the window of the oven, very well knowing that the rolls inside were far from ready. "But the heart is a wild spirit who doesn't care for what the mind thinks."
Link offered her a lopsided smile before he cautiously moved the chocolates aside to make room for more. "That's the fascination of love, isn't it?"
a kiss [Zeldon]
''How is it?''
Zelda looked up at Sidon at the sound of his voice.
The fire in the campfire burned strong enough to warm her through her night in the wild; if it weren’t for the promptous visit from the Zora prince. The casting shadow gave her enough to see Sidon's handsome face, whose attention went to his restless hands on his lap instead of her, and the slight blush on his cheeks.
'' The what?'' She asked curiously. The zora's eyes strayed and met hers for a brief moment before settling back on his lap.
" A kiss." He whispered.
At the answer, her heart leapted in her chest, feeling an indescribable heat slowly consume her until she felt it on her face. Claering her throat at the discomfort of her response, she answered vaguely.
'' Well ... it depends.''
''How so?''
Zelda bit her lip and sighed.
‘‘It depends on who you share the kiss with.’‘ She made a gesture with her hands, as if trying to generalize. ‘‘There are kisses that some people use as greetings, a kiss on the cheek. There are kisses of parents towards their children; and vice versa. T-there are kisses with your partner, which are usually on the lips, when you want to show physical affection.’‘
When she looked up, this time Sidon was looking at her. The blush on her cheek only intensified when their gazes met.
"O-Oh, sure, it makes sense." He replied pathetically. After a couple of seconds, he blurted out, "I've never had one of those, you know?"
She knew what he meant by that, but just the same she asked nervously: "A kiss on the cheek?"
''On the lips.’'
‘‘Ah.’‘
The fire wavered, making small sounds, while the flames danced to the beat of the wind. Zelda took one of the loose branches to accommodate the firewood in her silence.
‘‘I would like to kiss you, Zelda.’‘
She dropped the branch in surprise, tossing it along with the remaining firewood and burning it in the process. She turned her head so fast that she was dizzy for a few seconds as her face burned with shame.
''Excuse me?''
"I want to kiss you, if you would allow me the pleasure." Sidon repeated.
A few seconds passed where Zelda was left speechless, looking into his amber eyes that only flowed with affection and shyness. Her heart was beating so hard and so fast she was afraid Sidon could hear it from the silent space where they were.
She nodded, then, not sure she could give an answer out loud.
The first thing she felt was Sidon's large palm on the side of her neck, gently stroking her scalp, and mindful of his sharp nails; slowly rising to rest it on her hot cheek.
It was a little funny, she thought, seeing Sidon bend in almost two to reach her height; but whatever comment she was going to make died on the tip of her tongue as his cold lips rested on hers, making her shiver.
Zelda closed her eyes, pressing a little to deepen the sweet touch. She felt her stomach with swarm with butterflies and her chest set on fire; she felt that at any moment she would explode as she took the Zora's face between her hands, sighing in pleasure. She listened excitedly to the growl Sidon let out when she began to move her lips slowly, their tongues intertwining and becoming more bold to their needs. She wanted to be selfish, to steal the last of his breath in their kiss.
She moaned with enthusiasm as Sidon's arm went around her waist to pull her across his lap, not breaking the contact of their sealing lips. They held each other with want, with need.
Sidon’s hands cradling her face and pulling at her hair to angle their faces. Zelda, with her arms around his neck, pulling in, deeping it, moaning into his mouth, his sharp teeth nipping dangerously her tongue but not giving a care in the world because it was him.
Zelda bit her lower lip before recluntantly pulling away from him, not before hearing a growl from him. She hid her face against his chest, breathing hard to catch her breath and feeling her insides burn pleasently.
"That was...exciting, yes?" He commented, stroking her neck.
‘‘Yes, it was.’‘
‘‘Would you mind if I could taste a little more of that kiss?’‘
Zelda breathed a laugh, her heart pounding her chest in embarrassment.
‘‘You have no shame.’‘
‘‘Not with you by my side.’‘
For the @sidlinkgiftexchange !! My giftee was @the-puny-pichu !
“Link, that looks revolting.”
Sidon leaned away from the dubious concoction his companion had pulled from his shiekah slate, meeting the Hylian’s doe eyed stare with barely concealed nausea.
Link looked down at the bowl of teeth soup in his hands. Teeth soup.
“…Yeah. It tastes about as good as it looks.”
He stared at it for a moment more and then shrugged, tossing the foul dish into the fire before them. Sidon flinched as the flames cracked and glowed a sickly green before consuming the foul fuel. Link had already moved on to the next entree of stored food in his slate, this time pulling out a cake.
“The variety of dishes in your possession is both amusing and alarming.” Sidon observed, squinting at the slice Link shared with him as though looking for hidden molars or perhaps a bit of moblin guts.
He’d seen the offensive concoctions Link cooked up now. Nothing was safe.
Link shrugged again, inhaling the food.
“I usually cook with what I have. Sometimes I have a lot, sometimes I don’t.”
“I see…and what happens to be the status of your inventory tonight, then?”
Sidon tried to hide the nervousness in his voice. Link pulled out another dish of food, the delectable smell of braised fish paring well with his broad grin.
“A lot.”
The odd pair settled into a warm, summer night. They did this now and again, when Link decided the strange slate on his hip was stuffed with as much as it could carry.. Sidon had long assumed whatever hoarding tendencies Link possessed had been grossly enabled by the sheikah technology, but he wasn’t one to complain. Especially when it meant spending time with Link.
“Here. I found a bunch of silverscale spears and some Zora swords.”
He proceeded to unload a small armory on the ground beside Sidon, who started waving his hands frantically.
“Link! Good gracious, my friend, thank you, but I can’t carry all of this back to the domain myself!”
“Oh,” The little Hylian looked at the half-materialized hilt in his hand, shoving it back into the nether regions of whatever void was contained on his hip. “Good point. I’ll just drop it off with Bazz before I head out.”
Sidon smiled weakly, shaking his head.
“I don’t know how or where you find all of these weapons…I think it’s fair to say half our army is supplied by you alone.”
“Nah,” Link laughed bashfully, throwing another dubious concoction into the fire. The flames turned purple this time. “I just collect a lot of things. No sense in keeping it if I don’t use it.”
“Oh? Are Zora weapons not up to your standards then?” Sidon raised a brow, privately enjoying the fluster that washed over Link’s expression.
“Wha-No! No, it’s not that! I mean—I just have a lot of weapons and—“
Sidon laughed, absently resting an assuaging hand at Link’s back. The champion was so small he could nearly wrap his clawed fingers around him. The thought did something strange to Sidon’s stomach, but many strange feelings tended to permeate his sensibilities around Link, so he tried to ignore it.
He also ignored the way it seemed Link was leaning into his hand.
“I’m merely giving you a hard time, my friend. I know you travel far and wide, and there are undoubtedly more suitable weapons for your cause.”
He eyed the legendary blue hilt that rested close to Link, the previously lightened sensation in his chest taking a turn. Link had been openly carrying the Master Sword much more frequently as of late. Sidon wasn’t sure what it meant, but it left him nervous. Afraid, even.
Link seemed to sense what he was looking at, not meeting his eyes. They were equally quiet for a long time.
“…I’m going to face him soon. Very soon.” Link finally spoke, his voice weighted and somber.
A cold feeling began to spread through Sidon’s chest. It wasn’t a mystery who—or rather what—Link was talking about. Very suddenly, Sidon wanted to pull Link closer. The temptation was so strong he had to remove his hand from where it rested against his back. Link looked somehow smaller without it there.
“…I suppose you won’t be needing a silverscale spear then.” Sidon attempted to lighten the mood, a weak smile playing at his lips.
Link didn’t react for a moment, staring hard into the fire before relenting with a snort, resuming the task of cleaning out his slate.
“Probably not.”
An owl hooted somewhere overhead. The river nearby rushed quietly in the darkness. Sidon let himself stare at Link, at the lean muscles that had been honed around an abused frame, hardened from experience and trauma. His fingers twitched in his lap, claws ticking together mutely. Link was quite fierce when he wanted to be, determined and resolute in a way that bordered on obsessed. Very little seemed to phase his most treasured friend. Even the prospect of facing Calamity Ganon didn’t seem to shake him, not like it did Sidon.
Every time he thought about his small, wild Hylian facing up against such an ancient evil, he wanted to pull him close and protect him from his own destiny. Sidon was a shamefully selfish Prince, it seemed. At least where Link was concerned.
The larger Zora shifted uneasily on the grass, appreciating the way Link spread the fuel of the fire so the flames stayed low and less stressful to his scales.
“Are you comfortable?” He asked, eyeing Sidon with undue concern. That feeling in his chest swelled full once again.
“Of course, my friend. No need to worry. I can easily take a quick dip in the river if necessary.”
“Want to right now?” Link very confidently stood up.
“What—now?” Sidon looked at the surrounding darkness, a little taken aback by Link’s sudden enthusiasm.
“Sure.” Link looked like he’d already decided for the both of them, packing his shield, bow, and the sword that seals the darkness into his slate before pulling off his tunic.
Sidon felt a blush flood his face, trying very hard not to appreciate how the firelight cast the musculature of Link’s body into sharp relief and failing miserably. Without inhibition, Link kicked off his boots and pants, driving home how very serious he was.
“Wait, Link, are you sure this is a good idea?”
“Why not? You just said you could take quick dip.”
“Yes, but I’m a Zora. That river is hardly calm and there’s no light out.”
“The moon is out.” Link argued, a cheeky twinkle in his eye.
“That’s hardly sufficient for avoiding underwater currents!” Sidon quickly stood and chased after his stubborn companion, who was already heading for the river.
Link turned around, walking backwards towards the water and wearing an expression that left Sidon gaping like a newly hatched guppy.
“Guess you’ll have to make sure I don’t find any. You wouldn’t let me drown, would you Sidon?”
Thank goodness the depth of night concealed how deeply Sidon was blushing. Link was being especially disarming tonight.
“O-of course not!”
“Then it’s fine. Come on.”
Link waved him closer. The pearly light of the moon cast a gentle glow over his features, brightening his eyes. Against the deep blue surroundings, he stood out like a candle, confident as ever and heedless to any apparent danger. Sidon eyed the swift moving water nervously, looking back to Link’s comparatively tiny body.
This was a bad idea.
Without an ounce of fear, Link walked into the closest current, stumbling slightly and quickly regaining his footing. Sidon splashed in after him, throwing any reservations to the wind and bracing a hand at his back.
“Honestly Link, there are other places—safer places—to swim.” He muttered, eyes scanning the dark waters and zeroing in on a plethora of dangers.
“Then take us there.”
He spoke so simply, as if it was the most logical and reasonable choice in the world, which it was. Sidon couldn’t figure out why he was so flustered with it all. Maybe it was the suddenness of the late night swim. Maybe it was the strange position of having to protect this small, ferocious servant of the Goddess from a mundane death. Maybe it was the fact that it was Link, who’d always had an uncanny knack for throwing off his princely confidence, asking to share a relatively normal experience that for some reason felt anything but normal to Sidon.
“Of course!” He agreed gallantly, hoping he succeeded in hiding the wild swirl of thoughts running rampant in his head.
Link smiled at him, and he felt like a floundering guppy all over again.
Sidon carefully maneuvered them into deeper waters. Link was quickly picked up by the current, holding tight to Sidon’s arm and then sliding himself against his back. It was almost reminiscent of when they took on Vah Ruta together, but without the pressure of a cataclysmic flood weighing them down. The closeness this time seemed much more…intimate.
Perhaps Sidon was just over thinking things. Muzu often said he tended to over think things.
“Ready when you are.” Link spoke into his ear, his voice perfectly calm.
Sidon worked really hard to hide the electric shiver that raced to the farthest end of his dorsal fin, rapidly making himself think of the nearest and safest destination.
“Ah, right! Hold tight then!”
Link most certainly did hold tight, which was good, because Sidon knew the Hylian wasn’t exactly the strongest swimmer. He carefully kept them away from more dangerous rapids, following the river downstream to a small backwater pool he used to visit as a child. It wasn’t particularly deep, by his own standards, but had served as an excellent retreat during his lonely adolescence. It was a place he knew Link would be perfectly safe, no matter how unpredictable he apparently aimed to be.
“Almost there!” Sidon called, feeling Link give him a firm squeeze in response.
The water was already noticeably calmer as he took a nearly hidden channel that branched off the main river. It led to a wide pool with a thick bank of overgrowth. There was hardly anywhere comfortable for a Hylian to sit, but it couldn’t be helped. At least there wasn’t a deadly current.
“This is nice.” Link observed, craning his neck to take in all the details.
The moon shone directly above, highlighting a heavy knot work of local grapevines that had rooted in the silt. They draped across most of the surrounding trees, thick with age. A few boulders broke up the tree growth, heavy with moss and various mushrooms. Sidon caught Link eyeing them with keen interest, though he made no move to collect them.
“I used to come here in my younger days.” Sidon revealed, feeling a touch nostalgic now that he was in the once familiar pool. “It was a good place to escape Muzu…or anything else that happened to be upsetting me.”
Neither of them needed to voice what it was that likely pushed Sidon to seek such solitude. With Link’s help, the grief of his dear sister had been laid to rest, and Sidon reflected, as he observed new chains of vine growth and unfamiliar carpets of moss, that he’d outgrown the solitude of this place as well. It was a strange feeling, to feel the ache of both nostalgia and loss and still be okay.
Link silently slipped off his back, using Sidon’s larger body as an anchoring point to pull himself around front. He had a careful expression on his face, one that turned into a soft smile as he observed Sidon’s comforted ease.
“Thanks for bringing me here.” He said quietly, and he was close, much closer than Sidon realized.
A breath of space was held between them for an impossibly long moment. Link’s gentle face took up Sidon’s field of vision,lips quirked into a small smile and eyes full of a chaotic mixture. There was the firmness of resolve and a shadow of something more harrowing, but above all, tender warmth emanated from twin blue pools. It was like staring at a midsummer sky.
“Sidon.” Link spoke his name quietly, and with an uncommon reverence.
The sound of it put a blush back on the Zora Prince’s face. It must have been dark enough for Link to see it, even in the poor light, because his smile broadened slightly. He stared directly into Sidon’s wide eyes, holding his shoulders with such small, powerful hands, his knees bumping lightly against his chest under the water.
Then Link kissed him.
He kissed him selfishly, indulgently, taking advantage of Sidon’s frozen state and even placing those small, powerful hands against his face. It was a touch that felt like desperation. Through the shock of it all and with a horrible flip in his gut, Sidon realized Link was kissing him like it was goodbye.
When the Hero pulled away, he wasted no time to speak, the previous tenderness in his expression extinguished as if he’d given all of his warmth to Sidon.
“I’m going to face the calamity tomorrow.” He spoke softly, too softly for such devastating news, and the flip in Sidon’s gut turned into a punch. “I probably wont survive. I barely survived the first time. …So I guess there’s no need to worry about this making things awkward between us.”
A hundred years worth of emotions were blowing through Sidon with the force of a hurricane. For once, he had so much to say, so many different feelings that wanted to pour forth, that he had no idea how to formulate any of them. They all demanded near equal attention.
Except for one.
“Please come back.” He whispered, eyes wide with fear, heartbreak, and something entirely too close to love. “Link, please come back.”
Link stared with a slow blooming shock, the previously dead expression washing away with each passing second that made clear the seriousness of Sidon’s request. His eyes progressively opened wide, betraying a rare vulnerability, and his mouth hung slightly agape. Sidon soon realized he was clutching at Link’s hips with the same ferocity that Link held his face.
“You have to come back.” He whispered again, feeling like an idiot who couldn’t string together the words to say much else.
“…You…you want me to come back?” Link breathed out, looking like he hardly dared believe it.
Sidon felt his brain short circuit again.
“Do I want you to-?! Yes! Yes, I want you to come back! I always want you to come back!”
“Always?” Link quirked his lips into an adorable half-smile. Sidon could decide if he wanted to kiss him again or smack him.
“Do you realize the highlight of my life right now is waiting for you to walk through the Ne’ez Yohma shrine so I can watch you throw dubious food into a fire?”
Link’s smile widened with every word, all of the shadows leaving even the darkest corners of his face.
“That’s the highlight, huh?”
Sidon was going to say something about Link being a smart ass, but then his brain caught up with all that was happening. Link had kissed him. And he was going to fight Calamity Ganon in a matter of hours. For the life of him, Sidon couldn’t decide which event shocked him more.
“Come here.” Sidon whispered, and he pulled Link into a second, much less fatalistic kiss.
It was Link’s turn to startle with surprise. Sidon held nothing back, moved by Link’s brazen selfishness to take some of his own. He pulled Link closer, tracing a hand up the smooth expanse of his back and feeling him tremble. Link gasped, opening his mouth and allowing them to explore each other more deeply. This kiss did not feel like a goodbye. This kiss was quite clearly the start of something with absolute longevity, Calamity be damned.
“Please say you’ll come back.” Sidon whispered against Link’s mouth.
Link didn’t speak, but he nodded all the same, pulling Sidon back in for a kiss that felt like hope and a promise all wrapped into one.
Hi! Could you do a Prince Sidon x male reader, where the reader is runaway royalty who was betrothed to someone when he was young, But he no longer wants to go through with it after he met sidon, so he runs away to be with him (whether anyone knows he's royalty or not is up to you. Also could it be like, when he ran away their relationship was entirely platonic, But then it turns romantic? If that makes any sense?) Thank you!
Our Connection
Sidon X Reader (Breath of the Wild)
Happy Late New Year! I love how creative this request was. Also, please forgive me, I didn’t follow the request to a T. I made them have a romantic bond before reader ran away. I only realized this when I was practically already finished.
I’m thinking about making a part 2 about Sidon finding out reader’s a runaway prince. However, I want to work on other things first.
*TAKES PLACE POST CALAMITY*
_________________________________________
"As the prince, you have a responsibility to your kingdom. Do you understand, [Name]?"
"Yes."
No.
You don't want to understand. Curse this royal title. Curse your fate. Curse yourself most of all.
For the sake of your kingdom, everything was planned out before you were born. From a young age, the seed of responsibility and duty was ingrained in your head, which relieved the people of your kingdom.
You were to be wed to a princess from a kingdom far away, to straighten and secure the ally ship. The marriage was to benefit your kingdom and it was made clear that this was the path meant for you.
Why couldn't you just be normal and follow it?
A simple trip to the neighboring kingdom, Hyrule, wasn't supposed to end this way. If you hadn't been curious to venture, you wouldn't have made it to Zora's Domain, and you wouldn't have met Sidon.
From his passion to his unwavering kindness, he was almost impossible not to get along with. From the get-go, you knew he, as a prince, drastically differentiated from you. He had a good relationship with his father and his people.
The feeling of butterflies in your stomach and warm cheeks almost distracted you from the reality of your situation.
You were completely enamored with him.
And because of that, you never mustered up the courage to tell him your true identity because he was the only thing that made you feel normal. To him, you were just a traveler from the neighboring kingdom far down South. Not part of a royal family with life-changing responsibilities. Sidon isn't in your future that was already set in stone.
"I knew I used too much spice for the stew!" You jump when Sidon curses down at the food on your plates.
"H-Huh?" You look at the meal in front of you in confusion. "Is it too much for you?"
"Is it for you? I saw the pained expression on your face!"
"Oh no no! The food's delicious!" You shake your head. "Sorry about that; Didn't mean to worry you."
You shift your position on the striped blanket as you laugh your thoughts away. Might as well just enjoy yourself while you can. You didn't want to ruin his planned picnic on the grassy plans overlooking Zora's Domain. You could see Vah Ruta in the distance, gaze fixated on what remains of Hyrule castle. It's pilot, remaining in the hearts of many.
His expression grows even more concerned as you quickly scoop a bite into your mouth. "Are you well, [Name]? Is something on your mind?"
You swallow thickly, covering your mouth as you burped. "Nah, I just remembered I'm leaving soon and got bummed." That wasn't exactly a lie.
"Ah, don't you worry, my dear friend! You are welcome at Zora's Domain anytime!" He gestures a hand at Zora's domain while using the other to wrap around your shoulders. "No matter how far away your kingdom may be!"
You chuckle and your cheeks redden at his closeness. You still can't handle yourself when he gets this close to you. He gets back to his spot to dig in. You watch him chew for a moment before getting back to your plate. The bright red of his scales stood out from the environment around you. It's color matched his personality: Passionate and outgoing.
"Sidon?"
"Yes?"
"Would you miss me if I was gone?"
"What?! Of course! How could I not miss my dear friend?"
You softly smile at that, "I'd miss you too."
With your gaze fixated on the ground, fork being played between your fingers, you didn't notice Sidon wrapping his arms around you until the last second. You drop the fork and place your hands on his head that went to rest on your shoulder.
"Please visit me again." He breathes upon you. You couldn't see his expression, but you could feel the longing.
You smooth your hands over his head and whisper, "I promise."
------
You couldn't sleep.
You couldn't sleep properly for the past month since you left Hyrule.
The memory of his tender embrace and your fading promise was driving you mad. Your marriage was ever-growing nearer and you couldn't wrap your head around the fact that you couldn't back down.
Your body never failed to become stiff at the undesirable truth. You had no one to talk to about it. No one to care. A duty you didn't want, a wife you didn't want, a future you didn't want.
You weren’t crazy; You two had a connection.
You grip the blanket, its cloth wrinkling under the pressure. The castle walls were growing smaller and smaller around you every time you blinked. It's so quiet that you can hear your heart beating and your breathes growing ragged. Your head was starting to pound, and you clutched it in agony. You sit up in discomfort, squeezing your eyes shut.
All your life, you were nothing but a tool for your kingdom.
In the heat of the moment, you got up and kicked your towering bookshelves, ignoring the few books that fell out.
As expected, a rush of guards came by due to the sudden crash. "What happened!?" No words came out; You were too ashamed to talk. "You are really red... Quick! Someone get the nurse!"
"I-I'm fine! I just got up for some water and bumped into the bookshelf."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Please leave me alone so I can continue to rest." You huff and bend down to put the books back.
"As you wish, Prince [Name]." The guard says as they take a short bow, "Please rest and feel better, for you have a big day ahead of you." You could hear the smile in his voice.
"I know."
The door closes, leaving you alone with your thoughts and something in hand. A paper slipped out of a geography textbook.
A map.
------
How did you manage to escape the castle and pass the guards?
You don't know.
How did you make it this far without anyone questioning who you were?
You don't know.
It seems like luck was on your side for once, and by all means, you'd take anything to reunite with Sidon. You'd travel whatever lengths to see him. However, the weight of guilt made things difficult, and you often considered turning around due to second thoughts.
Third thoughts.
Forth thoughts.
All thoughts went back to Sidon.
You didn't want to admit it, but traveling by foot was easier said than done. You were exhausted and your feet were terribly aching. Whenever you saw a stable in the distance, you rested and recovered energy. You wanted to keep the stops quick, but your body said otherwise.
Days passed until finally, your destination was in sight, blue and glistening under the moonlight. Suprised Zoras followed by whispers were the first things you saw as you walked down the long hallway. You approach the illuminated statue of Mipha as you felt your eyes start to wet.
What did I just do?
What's going to happen now?
They'll definitely find me for sure.
"[Name?]"
"Sidon..." You look up at him, shaking.
"Are you okay?!" He stumbled over his words. "Forgive me, but you look horrible!"
"S-Sidon..." You clench your fists and look down at your torn-up boots.
"[Name]," You sob when he bends down to counsel you, "You're safe here. I'm here, I'm here."
I did it.
I made it.
"I'm so h-happy to see you!" You give him a wet smile. "I needed to see you again."
His golden eyes softened as he reached to pet the back of your head. "Truly, I felt the same... What have you been through?"
You shake your head, "I don't care. As long as I'm here, I don't care anymore."
"I'm taking that you've been feeling what I'm feeling?" His face inches closer to yours.
"Well, if I wouldn't have made this far if I didn't." You both chuckle as your faces only get closer.
"WOAH IS THAT THE [NAME]?!?!"
You both quickly separate, the realization of where you are right now coloring your cheeks.
"Tumbo!! Shush!" A Zora mother grabs her curious child in embarrassment. "My apologies!"
"It's quite alright, please excuse me," Sidon reassures her then turns to look at you with a wink. "Perhaps, this isn't the right spot for that."
"Dammit! I'm never gonna live that down."
"Well then! That means we have to make it better!" He excitedly grabs your hand, "Let's get you something to eat."
