Bakugo Katsuki is always misunderstood

I think people misunderstanding Kacchan isn't a matter of him keeping his feelings vague. He's been pretty direct with expressing himself plenty of times, so it's a matter of interpretation. Hori purposely writes Bakugo in a way that there's supposed to be two or more interpretations. Not just for the readers, but for the people in MHA itself as well.

Hori luring us into thinking that Bakugo was just the stereotypical asshole in chapter 1, was what made Kacchan vs Deku 2 so good for a lot of people. Of course, there were scenes before it where it was shown that there was much more to Kacchan than that, like the way he was breaking down after he lost against Deku. But those could've been brushed off by others as wishful thinking, or just fans bending over backwards for the sake of headcanons. So seeing him straight up cry and admit that he felt guilty about ending All Might was like actually confirming those.

There's this satisfying feeling of "I knew it!", when you find out that the way you read between the lines was actually right. It feels like a reward for putting up with Bakugo antis when it is actually directly confirmed. It feels like you can finally disprove the people who have been calling you delusional or saying you're reaching too far.

That's how it felt like when chapters 284-285 came out. Bkdks have been saying that Kacchan's been expressing his care for Deku in chapters 274-275 and for many bkdk moments before that, but they could be brushed off by others as just 'Bakugo being Bakugo' or him helping Deku for his own gain.

In chapter 284, we get a direct comparison of how their relationship and Bakugo's feelings are interpreted by others at a surface level, vs how he really feels inside. It just seems like a normal sparring session for 'Bakugo to get stronger himself' as he mentioned when he first trained with Deku for blackwhip, but he's actually also doing it because he cares for Deku. There still is the competition and rivalry of course, but a lot of people think that that's the only thing there could be to it.

Volume 29 was like Hori straight up smacking people in the face because they still couldn't or wouldn't acknowledge Bakugo and Bakudeku's development. The smaller gestures aren't grand enough for them, so he just straight up makes Bakugo sacrifice himself for Deku.

(Ok that's actually more of personal experience. When I drop hints about something, and some people understand, while some people deny their suspicions, those people will call the people who did get it right wrong. I get frustrated because maybe it's my fault as well for being too subtle. So I straight up drop the bomb.)

It felt like the fact that Kacchan cares for Deku is officially established. No more misunderstandings! It's the Bakugo and Bkdk antis bending over backwards to deny or ignore it.

So the way the actual characters just misunderstand Bakugo again in chapter 303 hits hard. Like, didn't we just officially establish that Bakugo genuinely cares for Deku? Why would his own classmates just brush it off? Why is it brushed off in the story itself, in general?

While Bakugo himself really is someone you could misinterpret easily, I thought they wouldn't, because they're his friends. Why does it feels like Sato's saying he's disturbing the 'worried for Deku' mood? Why does it feel like Ochako and Iida are talking about him like a rabid dog? You'd regress on his relationship with his classmates, and the established fact that everyone knows he cares for Deku, for a gag? Feels really shitty.

Oh, but what if it wasn't an established fact for his classmates? That's what made me think that they probably don't know he got his injuries from sacrificing himself for Deku.

LMAO well okay. i think that my interpretation of his behavior will probably bug some people judging by a lot of posts i see flying around lately but yall asked, so

so like right from the jump, tommy reads as a, like, naive and good-mannered person. and, you know, he is a little naive! he gets bought out with fucking beyblades. but hes also very insistent that he knows what hes doing a lot of the time, even when gordon is being condescending as all shit and implying that hes a child. (see: the line where hes like “im not playing in the water! im testing the viscosity!”) and im inclined to take that at face value - presumably you dont get hired at black mesa without at least being on the level of, you know, a 27 yr old fresh out of MIT, like gordon freeman

and in that light, i think its really easy to read a lot of tommys behavior as straight up passive-aggressive/condescending towards gordon. gordons like, a decade younger than him, and hes going around cracking jokes about how tommys basically two kids in a trenchcoat. like, some examples:

whether or not tommy calls him “mr freeman” or “dr freeman” is a little inconsistent, but a lot of times tommy will be calling him “dr” right up until gordon makes some condescending comment toward him, at which point he switches to “mr”. it was probably not intentional at all, but its really funny and kind of demeaning

theres a moment where theres like, a laser/electricity/whatever, and tommy says “it cant hurt you if youre smart!” when gordon worries about it hurting him. it would hurt gordon, tho. this reads as a fantastically backhanded burn to me LMAO

theres another bit where theyre all just straight up calling gordon stupid. (he is a little stupid for being such a puffed-up MIT boy.) tommy will also sometimes just completely ignore gordon when gordon says something demeaning to him, like hes just turning away and thinking “i am not getting paid enough to deal with this guy”

tommys clearly spiteful at times: when they get fucked with the the military, tommy immediately jumps to suggesting they take one of the soldiers hostage, and when theyre robbing the casino in the payday stream, hes like “ive already lost 20$, let’s rob this place”. its not much of a stretch to interpret him as being spitefully condescending to gordon, too

anyway the point i am getting at here is that its not like wildly inaccurate to read him as just wanting some fucking respect. gordons really, really bossy and talks down to them a lot and sometimes literally talks to tommy like hes a dog. id think that just about anybody would get fed up with that

in that vein, please consider: tommy finally getting stern and reminding gordon that he is a 37 year old with a goddamn doctorate (maybe even multiple!) and that its dr coolatta, thank you. sure, he might like gordon, and they might be friendly towards each other, but gordon ought to show some fuckin respect for once instead of being so demeaning all the time. and, you know, gordon having a really embarrassing reaction to being put in his place for once

some other tidbits that dont really go along with this but that i feel compelled to point out anyway

tommy swears! he says “fucking” almost right away! and he doesnt stutter very much if at all. i think that, like the “gordon feetman” thing, the whole schtick of him never swearing and stuttering a lot is like a fanon thing that got latched onto really hard fsr

hes, like, really fast, and one of my friends headcanons him as having been a track runner at one point, which fits really well IMO

tommys probably an excellent researcher if he makes a point to reference how many OSHA codes and wikipedia articles hes memorized, which makes it even more funny/painful how much gordon lays into him for being childlike

tommy makes the sweet voice colors rhyme what they actively do some of the time, but definitely not all of the time. i know it can be fun to try to come up with clever rhymes for sweet voice, but the pedantic and obnoxious poet in my brain is begging ppl to just not force it if it sounds awkward. if youre gonna do it, you oughta make sure it actually rhymes, and that it scans correctly, too. sorry this is insanely nitpicky but it drives me Nuts and ive had people wonder why i would make one of benreys sweet voices orange when it doesnt rhyme with anything. it doesnt have to! dont worry about it!

i, a fan of superwholock, dissect and give my opinion on the individual shows

idk i thought this would be fun and i currently have 4-5 hours to kill soooo

let’s start with

doctor who

(only new who. i have not seen the older stuff :( )

k. so. i have been a fan of this since i was pretty young. honestly i think i was a little too young to be watching it when my mom first showed me it but that’s beside the point. basically: i really like dr who

this is probably the best show out of superwholock, both in my opinion and in general. however... i am going to be nitpicky bc why not

1. the canon. 

(yes the example is abt a dr who episode)

in short, the canon is comprised of a) retcons and b) contradictions. im not an avid follower of canon with any media but good god nobody can keep up with dr who canon

(i am blaming moffat bc i hate him and i think a lot of it is his fault anyway)

2. representation

honestly, the representation isn’t bad. however, i would describe it less as “good” and more as “a good starting point.”

for example, there is quite a bit of queer rep, POC rep, and a lot of characters are women. however, while this is nice, the show could still use a lot more rep, and the rep it has currently should probably be improved upon (for example: jack harkness is NOT straight, but he falls under the “multi-spec person wants to screw everyone” stereotype (i have not seen torchwood so this may be amended in that i just needed an example off the top of my head)).

3. story

some people yearn for romance. i yearn for the days when the doc would take their companion to some party, flirt with a tree, the companion almost dies while britney spears is playing in the background, etc. etc.

basically, the story starts out nice. just a bunch of goofing off, maybe a “big deal” thing here and there. life was fun.

then, the story changes. (this happened specifically from eleven onward, so yeah you can bet your ass im blaming moffat ‘cuz it’s his fault) things gradually became less fun. conspiracies ran amok; just when you thought it was over, turns out there’s an even bigger part of this plan that what you just defeated. the doc actually started caring about the timeline (what happened to time being wibbly wobbly?) sure, there are still fun episodes where the doc and the companion(s) go out for funsies but it’s just not the same as it was. 

4. morals

morals are good. basically:

you can have a dark past but still have a bright future, and

be kind

bonus 5. cowardice

at least one of the doctors played by one of the male actors should have worn a dress. there were plenty of opportunities but noooooo there’s a gender binary or something (like,,, they’re an alien????? if gender on gallifrey is the same as gender on earth i am going to fly to britain and drop kick some writers)

needs work, but p good and enjoyable.

this show is notorious for bad rep and for good reason. kevin, our beloved prophet and the only recurring asian-american character? dead. charlie, so nerdy and fun and also a lesbian? dead. castiel, the angel who was totally gay? dead. basically: if you find yourself in spn and you are not a straight white man, etc etc, you are going to a) die or b) die but in a worse way

3. mythology/treatment of religions

okay so. a while back i had a wicca/witchcraft hyperfixation which was closely followed by a general pagan religions hyperfixation, so i know some stuff here and there abt religions.

and good golly does this show make me MAD

why is christianity the central and most powerful religion? (i know why, it’s a rhetorical question) why do you demonize the other religions?? (again it’s rhetorical)

one thing that really annoys me is when they say something is a “pagan god.” like,,, do you know how many gods that contains??? if you didn’t know, a religion is considered pagan if it isn’t under the abrahamic religions umbrella. what are the abrahamic religions, you ask? well, they are christianity, judaism, and islam. literally every other religion ever is a pagan religion. so, when they say “it’s a pagan god,” i cry.

back to demonizing... they literally made a greek muse eat someone. my greek mythology phase ended a long time ago and i didn’t really get into the muses but i am p sure they didn’t eat people. also the fact that it makes hoodoo look dark and stuff when it’s actually more abt peace and healing... i bet ten dollars it’s because hoodoo was created by enslaved african americans

there are so many examples of this show disrespecting religions... i just can’t

4. general notes

okay actually let me just do the top three placements for the ds9 crew, okay? okay here we go! these are just for fun & also my interpretation. also i realize some arent human and therefore would have different placements entirely, but you know what? idc. (and no ezri since i havent seen enough of her to make a good guess sfdgfhjh sorry!) 

julian i already said was a cancer sun virgo moon. workaholics who are kinda anxious but also full of love and affection, plus they also love to talk. for rising im kind of caught between aries and sagittarius, because they both in nicely with the top two. i am leaning more towards aries rising though for him. moves very fast to keep interest in things & is career minded. it’s kind of a combination that swings back and forth between this unflappable confidence (usually in the workplace) and a deep emotional vulnerability. also, they’re caregivers by nature. his childhood teddy bear was his ‘first patient,’ and that has to mean something. he also repeatedly shows himself to be drawn to people that might be in need of ‘fixing,’ and might not necessarily pull back until something shakes him out of it. julian is someone who buzzes with energy and feels so much at once it can be hard to reign in, but once he actually manages to do that, it’s almost unstoppable. 

for sisko im feeling gemini sun and scorpio moon. okay yes two signs with a bad rep for some reason but hear me out: this person is extremely charming, confident & elegant except when they're Not, there's intense confidence and resolve that comes through. and on that intensity, we’ve all seen sisko when he gets serious about something--it’s a Lot. it’s a combo that can also be thrown off kilter and that’s not a great thing, but sisko has an excellent support system to ground him so you don’t see the negativity. he’s also a pisces rising. the same intensity comes out in love and emotional intelligence with him here, he’s definitely someone in touch with that side of himself and that’s very Water Sign of him. so basically loving, protective, the type of person people get drawn too for one reason or another but also there’s a chaotic side to him too, and he’s got a flair for the dramatic (his escapades in the mirrorverse come to mind when i think about this.) 

jadzia... okay see my initial reaction is to just. fill her chart with fire. she’s a big personality on the surface, and extremely magnetic. but actually? leo sun pisces moon. okay yeah, a fire sign out from the gate but hear me out. there’s a lot of duality in jadzia, and while she outwardly shows a ton of confidence, she’s also pretty self reflective and i get the sense she much prefers to deal with her problems internally. like, people don’t really see much past her dazzling outside either, and as another leo sun, people do tend to write us off as a bit one dimensional at times. the known emotional sensitivity of the pisces mized with leo’s capacity to love is good for her i think. rising is a bit tricky, since jadzia also has dax to blend her personality with, but i think that virgo rising suits her well. for all of the fun she brings to the table, she also has a brilliant streak of practicality. 

kira is another instinctively ‘oh, fire sign!’ person but actually? i think she has a ton of water in her chart. she’s emotional and passionate and so devoted to the things and people she believes in, and maybe she isn’t used to paying attention to her emotions because the occupation didn’t let her, but she feels so deeply. for this reason, pisces sun sagittarius moon scorpio rising. the thing about kira is that she might hold a lot of anger, but most of it stems from love and protectiveness. she’s incredibly blunt and adaptable, and definitely one of those pisces who doesn’t actually want to admit they have anything in common with the other water signs lmao. she’s at her best when she’s around people who can ground her and kind of make her pause to evaluate things before jumping into action and seriously values the bonds she makes with people. she also doesn’t really care for staying still or playing political mind games and would much prefer to just jump into the Doing phase of things. 

quark is just. it took me a minute for him actually? idk he’s a bit of a weird one. for quark, he’s kind of dramatic and emotional but also has this wonderfully deviant side and, when it comes down to it, isn’t terrible at business negotiations at all. yes he has majorly fucked up some big opportunities, but also somehow has kept his bar running for what, 15? 20 years? through everything that’s happened on ds9.  quark is a capricorn sun, but it’s balanced out (or in conflict with) his aquarius moon and leo rising. quark is weird, and kind of a dick sometimes, but when he’s not trying to be a menace, he actually has a pretty good heart. he’s a pretty creative thinker and constantly finds new ways to use practical knowledge to his advantage. but he also likes to ‘outshine’ others and keep the spotlight on himself, and he’ll lie and trample over people to do so. the fact that this combo makes him attentive can be a bit of a double-edged sword; sure, he can listen to people when he feels like it, but what’s going to happen with that knowledge? who knows. not quark until he finds an opportunity for it at least. 

odo! does not technically have a birthday but who cares i love him so he’s here. yes, we will start obviously: virgo sun. what else would i go with. he’s a reserved person with a personality that errs on the side of uptight; very virgo stereotypical. but you know what else? aries moon. oh yes. odo walks into a room and as long as he wants you to know he’s there, you Will know. he’s bold in his own way, and extremely on top of details with intense attentiveness. of course there’s some fire in his chart, and probably a lot of it in other placements too.  his gemini rising helps this out immensely, which is kinda surprising. but also when gemini is ascendant with virgo in sun, it makes them meticulous, fast learners. maybe a bit nitpicky at times, but nothing that can’t be helped with practice. i think the aries placement would also probably explain the underlying sensitivity, because like, it’s generally one of the louder signs of the zodiac but here’s a secret from anther fire sign: we are So sensitive oh my fucking god. we have a ton of ego and pride (and you can’t tell me odo doesn’t have moments of that) so typically unless we’re in a place we feel we can let go, you won’t see it, but jesus Fucking christ fire signs have a lot of emotion under the surface. 

miles, who i just wanna lowkey take the piss out of and slap him with virgo/virgo/virgo but i will refrain lmao. no, for him, libra sun leo moon virgo rising. he’s extremely reliable, devoted to his work & friends & family even if he’s not the greatest at showing it? a bit emotionally constipated but he does try very hard and that’s why we love him. is it the placements or the fact that he’s an irish dad? who knows, but he’s very prone to just telling people things outright with nothing to cushion it. this can be good or bad, and seems to depend more on how well the other person knows him. his leo side makes him pretty warm when he’s comfortable, and i think his relationship with keiko actually paints him as a lowkey traditional romantic too. also, these placements make for really good parents, and we don’t see it as much as we see the jake/sisko father/son dynamic, but miles really does do his best for his kids. 

worf my boy, who i have loved dearly since i first saw tng. hard to make a guess for him im 100% happy with though. im decently satisfied with taurus sun leo moon scorpio rising. worf is just like. he doesn’t have a really big personality but you also are very aware of him? i wouldn’t say he’s stoic by any means, he’s just very. focused. he’s honest and tries his best to look at situations from a more lawful standpoint, or at least, one that makes the most sense with his own honour code. he seems drawn to stability, but also finds himself drawn to people who challenge him too? he’s out here looking for something to balance him out and put things in perspective for him. whether or not he takes that into consideration is another thing entirely. and i say scorpio because, you know what they say, still water runs deep. you might know what he’s thinking because he told you, but you might not know how he Feels about it. actually, you probably will not. the leo doesn’t really make him want to be in the spotlight or anything, in his case i think it acts more like his driving force. 

and listen. i know garak isn't crew. but i love him so he’s here and we’re all gonna like it.  this chaotic little bastard spy is an aquarius sun pisces moon capricorn rising.  garak is unique, and even if he doesn’t want to say it, he’s pretty ruled by his emotions too. he’s creative, and a grade-A manipulator who can charm his way just about anywhere (provided of course, the person in question isn’t someone who’s been warned about him, but even then, he has a good chance). he’s good a good, if not a bit Off, sense of humour and he comes off as someone who has a personal interest in the behaviour of people. not just a spy thing, but he’s invested--he does crave a certain intimacy and closeness which gets denied uh. most of his life actually. the capricorn read comes from how he’s been able to compartmentalize and commit acts of cruelty. an interrogation that was four hours of staring and not speaking is certainly creative. it’s also an insanely calculated and sadistic mind game for him. and it’s interesting to note that as much as he manipulates, he’s also very easily manipulated himself (see: Everything about tain jesus fuck i hate that man so much). he also runs into quite a bit of trouble when he’s not able to compartmentalize things any longer, whether it’s because the emotional toll is too high or he simply doesn’t see the point in the actions any longer.

hey my dudes, so as always i do have plans for a breakdown of the most recent episode coming but it’ll probably be a in couple days — i’m planning on rewatching the entire series because a lot of my feelings about this episode relate to tone and flow and wrapping up story threads so i want to make sure i don’t forget about anything and make real inaccurate statements...

in the mean time though: i’ve got some preliminary thoughts and ideas that i figures i’d word vomit out there.

so a) i actually didn’t hate the episode. there was one scene with what felt to me like a major tonal shift that felt a bit out of place (you know the scene i’m talking about) but i for the most part thought there was a lot of potential and nothing that they can’t fix/adjust coming into another season.

b) carlos and seb are beautiful and pure and i love them so so so so much and seb kills as sharpay and carlos as chad had my dying of laughter and man they were lovely and i’m so excited for seb to be a main role in season two and can’t wait for more content.

c) big red. big red. big red the third? i died. this guy honestly. so sweet. just out here impressing everyone with his talent. and him and ashlyn! and he sent the flowers! and all of it was amazing a real highlight — and when his parents were like “he’s never really done anything before so we’re happy he’s out here doing something” and supporting him. and like man big red and his family and big red and ashlyn, i want more, i hope they keep it at zero angst all wholesome adorable sweet love.

d) ej. so like i know ej has been a love him or hate him character with most people leaning hate. i’ve actually really enjoyed ej’s character and i think in another post i’m probably going to do a breakdown/analysis of all the characters: but man ej was a lot of comic relief to me and he’s mistakes always read more just oblivious/idiotic than with any sort of ill intention. and this ep when he said “i’m playing to lose”: that was actually such a great moment that i felt and i mean it shows that he actually does care about nini...i mean in a way he kinda did what ricky did too? stepping away to give nini the best chance/what she wants/deserves. so i thought that was really well done and him buying the ticket for gina and honestly, there’s no ej hate here.

e) a piece of nitpicky criticism: there should have been a nini/kourtney scene after the show about the school? like should have at least been kourtney comforting nini/nini saying she wants to be alone/something because like the two of them are close and besties and i know that realistically kourtney would be the first there to comfort her and if nini felt how she told ricky she did she wouldn’t have let kourtney worry so like ?? as i said nitpicky but like i just know if that happened to my best friend she’d have a hard time getting rid of me until she 100% reassured me she was alright.

f) let’s talk ricky’s mom because why not? “i didn’t want to throw you off”? there’s so much about that line: there’s the fact that to some extent she obviously knew having todd there would throw ricky off, the fact that somehow she assumed it would be better to have him just show up mid show and give ricky NO time to consider it — as ricky pointed out. it’s that she just obviously so out of tune with her son that she doesn’t know him, and doesn’t seem to get that everything she thought was wrong and was a bad idea. and that she was like where were you and ricky was like “check your messages” and man i felt that because i’ve done that when i don’t want to talk to people and if they don’t get the message man honestly it just makes the situation worse so get out of here lynne until your like actually going to make an effort to like know/listen to your son.

g) on the other hand, ricky’s dad!!! he barely even did anything but you can just feel his support of ricky. like he tries, and he’s there and don’t get me wrong i LOVED the ricky/gina scene but i kinda wished his dad had come out and spoken to him — id love to see a heart to heart between the two of them and i think 100% they should talk because ricky is way more likely to listen to his dad than his mom.

h) alright i’ll stop delaying the inevitable: ricky and nini. personally i wasn’t feeling it. i thought the individual pieces were there as a climax of their relationship — i thought it was written fine and executed fine in the context of THIS EPISODE. but it felt almost out of place to me. a lot of this has to do with the fact that i hadn’t been sold on the relationship, i personally don’t feel like they are a good fit and idk i feel like the show’s main lacking point was that they didn’t really push them as positive? and even leading up to the ricky/nini moments the tone still felt off? like ricky’s mom said the thing about relationships sometimes not working? for me: it just didn’t fit. it didn’t have the right build up to sell me which overall affected how i felt about the scenes, no matter how well performed they were? that being said, i do have hope leading into season two...i think they have a couple things they need to come to terms with still, i think white i ship ricky/gina depending on how they handle season two maybe they work? but maybe they don’t? they didn’t dismiss the ricky/gina connection, and ej redeemed himself a bit/showed he obviously still cares for nini, plus nini got the offer to the school so who knows honestly... i’ll talk about it more in another post though — point is it just felt off for me.

i) gina moving in with ashlyn!!! i’m happy gina’s probably coming back, and am excited to see how they work it out.

and my final two thoughts:

j) nini getting the offer. i’m happy she got the offer and i’m interested to see how it plays into the next season. i just really hope they don’t go for: im staying here for the boy — that’s like an awful message, and in a world where schools and jobs are so competitive, like take your chances if it’s what you want — so if she doesn’t go, i’m just praying that it’s for a better reason then :( i just got back with this guy.

and last but definitely not least k) ricky’s story. okay so i have semi conflicted feelings about how ricky’s season one story wrapped because i really felt it didn’t. he got to say “i love you” which is great and all, but there’s so much else going on with him...obviously it means there’s a lot more to talk about in season two but my biggest thing is that none of his BIG problems got resolved and while yes he said “i love you” to nini, i felt like he didn’t really come out of the season learning anything? and this is just in regards to my own personal feelings about his character: having him fulfill the “winning back the girl” arc just feels like it takes away from all the dealing with change, finding his support and all his character development. like i love ricky so much and i’m happy he was able to say i love you cause that’s huge, but i felt like he didn’t come away from the season as strongly as some of the others character did in the finale.

but as i said, these are mainly just initial thoughts. i’m going to rewatch everything and will probably have a couple posts coming out about the individual characters/more cohesive thoughts on the season finale.

but nonetheless, the agonizing wait for season two begins, i wish everyone the best of luck.

i have such mixed feelings about the luck system. bc like? ITS SUPER COOL, the way it actually works, but sometimes it feels like.. op as hell. and kinda disappointing sometimes? and okay i should read more this up th

ITS JUST. LIKE. when, like, something goes badly and you go :O and then they’re like “no its cool !! luck point it up!!” idk about anyone else but thts happened to me SO many times already AND ITS LIKE...

like i think its def necessary to have that safety net bc with motw. its like. so, so much easier for everything to quite suddenly take a bad turn. the probability of shit going badly is like. much conistently higher than it is for other games AND. obviously if it just broke the whole thing, and it ended premature that wouldnt be great either ofc so i dont think it should be scrapped entirely BUT

. but i think its more like... maybe the luck system could have been adapted better for a podcast format. like i feel like they should have maybe only gotten 3 points each.  bc like. 5 or 6 (im SURE it was 6, but?) is too many!! esp with the way they’re running it. had i NOT been a podcast, and been a longform game, then i think it would have made more sense but when they’re producing a Story that’s a lot shorter and has less rolls in general and yeah its like...

for three characters, spread over 30 episodes.......................... what is tthat. like if they had 5, each, minimum that’s like 15 in total. it feels liek there’s a surplus and that they HAVENT LIKE.. ever had to be THAT conscious of how theyre spending them? like they definitely aren’t, like, going hogwild but its like whenever something VERY bad happens they’re always quite certain that they Can use a luckpoint which kinda like

it kinda throttles some of the stakes and the story, is all. like i feel like it would have been  much more interesting if they had 3 luckpoints each and had to be way, way more careful and deal with more consequences. bc for real every time they dodge sth BAD happening i just get. disappointed bc i WANTED something wild to pop off to see how they;’d cope and

i think its also. like. the way they deal with it too. it rlly isnt good for storytelling in that way. like thats LESS of a big thing, and more of a small little annoyance, but its like... even if they didnt adjust the number of luckpoints, the way they make Luck narratively weave into the world kinda just. ehh i dont like it. i think there couldd be a better approach is all. and i dont blame them for that bc its nitpicky as fuckn hell. but its like that...thing i said b4 about them CHANGING it- LIKE

next okay i sorta stalked your writing tag don’t mind me haha anyways here we go! i’m basing this primarily off your adorable jily soulmates fic

your fic style is similar to mine in that we both kinda need to work on the same thing - i’m not sure how to put it, but kind of improving the flow/ease of writing? it’s a very nitpicky thing (i really don’t have much to say, your writing is lovely omigod) but it’s kinda not making things too...dialogue-heavy? you don’t want writing to be too dialogue-y or too descriptive, and a blend of both is great.

another little thing i noticed (this is kinda weird and prob unfounded but bear with me) is that your fic seemed kind of like a timeline? in that it focused on the major events regarding the plot? this is kinda strange but maybe add in a couple...small events as well? like just random points in time that don’t really hold much significance, but help paint a scene? like for example for a soulmate jily fic, instead of jumping from they meet -> they become friends -> they date -> marriage, maybe add in an excerpt of them meeting as friends just to hang out, an excerpt of lily talking to, say, remus or sirius about james - just to better establish the characters’ personalities and views? 

also maybe work a bit on setting a scene? maybe when you start writing a scene - say, james proposing to lily - add a bit more on them looking at the night sky, what transpired in that 3 year interim (like i said, minor events in between), and stuff? your descriptions are lovely, just add a bit more! not too much but enough to set a scene

i wanna talk about bn/ha so uh yea. dont’ read if you’re a hardcore fan :)

i dont really like it as much as i should but i think a lot of it is because THE WAY IT LOOKS IS KIND OF........ NOT MY FAVOURITE

sure there are some scenes where the animation is incredible (ep 3 s3) but in general the colours just aren’t flashy enough for me i think???? ITS NOT CRISP ENOUGH?? ESPECIALLY KACCHAN?? HE LOOKS TOO PLAIN FOR MY TASTES. considering how good the manga looks and ALSO THE FACT THAT THIS IS STUDIO BONES IT COULD’VE BEEN BETTER I THINK

and then there’s the voice acting/animation effects that often don’t go together. it’ll often have this effect that’s used in intense comedic scenes i guess BUT THEN THE VOICE IS FLATTER THAN A BOARD AND IT’S REALLY OFF-PUTTING OKAY IT REALLY IS

idk maybe it’s me being nitpicky but such things only bother me when they’re really noticeable. and. i don’t see why people often call it the second coming of hxh when it so obviously is not. like even from an animation point of view. and the story overall. the characters. kacchan is definitely the most complex character and he is a very very very very very great character but hxh has multiple such characters?? hxh actually like. does unpredictable things overall?

whereas this one........... i’d call it a shounen done well. eh. it’s really not that special.

ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT IT HAS SUCH GREAT CHARACTERS IN THE FORM OF THE PEOPLE I ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT (aka most of class 1A ) BUT THEN IT OFTEN JUST FOCUSES ON PEOPLE I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GIVE HALF A SHIT ABOUT (especially the manga nhgfdhufjd which is why i stopped reading it hhhnhhn)

idk there’s like so many things i dislike about it and its not just like ‘eh that aspect could’ve been done better’ no it’s like ‘WHY THE FUCK IS IT LIKE THIS IT SUUUUUUUUUCKS’ and compared to that there’s few things i actually like about it. one of those being kacchan. and the other people in class 1A. i kind of care about them but i don’t feel like i care enough? so that’s sad.

so when i say ‘im in bn/ha hell’ i mean ‘i love my son and this is mildly entertaining’

(im just glad it actually held my attention. cause it often happens with rewatches and even new anime that i’ll watch half an episode then get bored and return to rewatching haikyuu for the 30th time)

     It still feels weird to call you anything but that.  I know that’s not what you use anymore, but old habits die hard. Would you mind too terribly if I keep using it?  If you do, I can change.  I do want to do whatever you think is best for you, so please, let me know.

      Lucy is doing better.  The surgery did not help as much as we thought it might, but the doctors have her on a new, more experimental batch of medications and those seem to be doing better than the old ones did.  She’s still having trouble speaking, so most of my time is still spent there with her.  So I’m as well as I’ve always been.

       How are your classes?  Are you still at that little school in the middle of nowhere?

     If you wish to continue calling me Beatrice, then I will not mind. I would prefer Diane, as it has become the name I use most regularly in my everyday life, and Beatrice feels old and misused, but I have no intent of forcing you to change.  You may do what you will.  Either will work.

      It is good to hear that your sister is doing a little better.  I wish it were possible for you to pursue your own life separately from her, as I know that increased pressure has had the unfortunate side-effect of increasing your anxiety, but I take it you are keeping up with what we learned so long ago.  As for me, I have begun to supplement my practices with new ones as more research reveals itself.

     I also have a dog, and he helps most marvelously.

      My apologies.  I know that you did not ask on either of those and do not want to be wasting your time.

     Yes, I still work in Sunset.  I would prefer that you not refer to it in such negative tones, but I also know that I do not have the ability to prevent you from so doing. The town may be small, but it is more than enough for me.

     That said, this is the first week of classes.  The first batch seems as though it might be interesting.  There are plenty of familiar faces and plenty of new ones as well.  You know that the beginning of the semester is always hardest for me, as I fall into what my patterns will be with the new students, but having so many returning ones makes teaching a little easier.  I believe that tomorrow will be easier in that regard, as most of the classes are full of those passionate about the subject, which means that there will be more students I know as opposed to ones I do not.  This will make it far more comfortable for me.

     Please keep me updated on Lucy as her condition changes, and I will keep her in my prayers as well.

     Bae, you have got to quit apologizing.  You’re not doing anything wrong.  It’s more than fine for you to share these things with me.  You are not interfering with my life, and you are not wasting my time.  I enjoy hearing from you.

     At the same time, I realize that writing all of that is just reassuring you, so please, hold on to those.  You wrote in your last letter that you were holding onto what we learned and keeping that in practice, but if that were so, wouldn’t you have stopped apologizing?      Sorry – I do not mean to be nitpicky.  Lucy has not been doing as well today, and when she is more stressed, so am I.  Thank you for keeping her in your prayers.  I’m sure that she would be extremely happy for them if she understood exactly what that meant.  Regardless, I do, so many thanks from me! 

     Keep me posted on how your classes go – if you have any troublemakers or really good students.  I want to hear everything, so feel free to spill as much as you want.  You’re quite right; I don’t get to leave or really have much of a life of my own, so it is nice to hear how yours is going.  I’m honestly really sorry for not keeping in touch with you these past few months.  It’s Lucy – with everything that’s been going on, it’s hard to remember that there are other things I need – and want – to do.

     Maybe, when she’s better, I’ll be able to come visit.  I really miss you, Bae.
