Ok I’ll bite, I’m curious:

Mephisto/Amaimon - why ship it? (All 3 q’s)

Rin/Shiemi — why don’t you ship it? (I hope I’m asking this right)

I think we will probably have similar reasons but it never hurts to ask!

Mefiama, why ship it:

1. Ok! So for the first, really my og aoex ship was amairin bc I'm a battle couple shipper first and foremost but mefiama was a close second and it's bc I'm a demon lover after everything lololol

Specifically, I've loved characters like mephisto and amaimon as long as I can remember, starting from my og fav yyh Yoko Kurama and Hiei (which in my head is a different ship than Hiei/Kurama). But, like that ship, I actually never really liked/like the ways fandom portrays them. Characters like Hiei and Amaimon both end up woobified and turned into stereotypical uke characters with the big sexy dom/seme mephisto/Kurama to seduce/play with them.

And to me that always pissed me off bc of how ooc it made them all out to be. I love Hiei and Amaimon bc they're little feral shitheads who have a massive independent streak to them and act/are totally inhuman. They both poke at each other and cause each other headaches and I live for it lololol

They're spicy as hell too and I love that in a ship. The second I saw Mephisto keeping Amaimon strung up on spears in the cuckoo prison that was it for me 😩👌🔥

2. The draw for these characters and the ship is that they're both inhuman creatures that only pretend at humanity, or in amaimons case, is forced to play nice by mephisto if he wants to be stomping around his territory.

What I really love about them, though, is that while Mephisto has the upper hand in the dynamic, Amaimon also knows his character and can see past his clown mask bullshit. He knows the demon Mephisto really is under all the sparkles and show boating. He's an observer and even when Mephisto is focusing on his goals and plots and shows, Amaimon is there on the sidelines keeping tabs and picking everything apart. I think Amaimon thinks Mephisto is interesting or has potentially interesting ideas. The thing about demons is they're constantly looking for something to keep them interested through their eternal existences and with Mephisto, Amaimon has a source of enrichment lol

I also like the fucked up premise of how Amaimon has an inherent trust in Mephisto that gets abused in canon. We saw him getting incredibly hurt by the shiemi reveal, as if Mephisto keeping that info from him meant Mephisto was treating him like one of his human pawns and not with respect as another demon king.

3. I'm not sure if there's an unpopular opinion I have for them, except that I tend to find most fandom treats them incredibly ooc and it makes it difficult for me to enjoy content of them from others. Mephisto as the over simplified seductive seme, doing typical melodramatic evil villain stuff and Amaimon being reduced to a uwu baby idiot who has never had sex despite being a who knows how old demon king. I've got a ton of bitching I've done over the years about it (and it's the same treatment Hiei always got back in the day so I'm used to the frustration) 😂

Rinshi, Don't Ship:

1. Man I feel really bad to say this but this is one of the most vanilla/boring ships in the fandom outside of bonrin. It's just so typical hot headed anime boy protag/girl next door love interest, even as much as they're both incredibly well developed characters, and as much as I love Rin.

It really just comes down to Rin being a, like, base ingredient for me as a ship. Like him being involved in a ship isn't on its own enough to make me enjoy/ship something. (Amaimon, on the other hand, immediately spices any ship up and I've even got a few rinamaishi fic aus out there lol). But I've never been interested in the sweet, hard-working character archetype. I can't help it, I'm into edgy bastard gremlin characters, the antagonists and anti heroes lololol (The exception to this in aoex is Yuri and that's bc she's got that little mischievous bad girl zing to her I love lololol). Shiemi just doesn't have that spice I need to really invest in a character.

2. What would have made me like it is just if Shiemi was a different character lololol like, she's just too sweet for me, like a marshmallow. Her in her string Independent woman era isn't really doing it for me either bc it feels like all her character development got cut out in that training arc she was just in. We missed a good opportunity to see her reconcile things with her grandma and her growth just to watch her toss an Amaimon copy and it feels like we got cheated out of her character arc.

If she just had that little spark that Yuri had it might work for me but I haven't seen it and until then it feels like every other typical anime main character/love interest ship, and it's just never been a dynamic I've never been into.

3. Positive things I have to say are that I think Kato has always done a phenomenal job making her characters feel realistic and not the usual anime shallow stereotypes. So when ppl tell me they enjoy the ship I'm like yeah, if ur into those kinds of characters and that ship dynamic, you've come to the right series to get a really well developed couple who feel fleshed out and who have had a developing relationship throughout the series. Totally understandable, just not for me.

🤍 (which character isn’t as morally bad as bad as everyone thinks): naturally i’m a massive shooter for alicent hightower! she is trapped within a patriarchal system without 21st century awareness of the issues which control her and is doing what she can to protect the people she loves, despite the fact that she is misguided in doing so. the fact that she helps perpetuate the system that controls her is very sexy to me!

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

- a few times actually, but because said opinions happened to be either extremely ableist, transphobia, proshipper rhetoric, or infantilization of trauma victims, etc, things that are reflections of poor character irl passed as "opinions" that I'd much rather not see on my dash or associate with. Ship discourse and or ooc characterizations and the like for fictional media are things I usually just mute or ignore otherwise

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

- a lot of my choices are the usual common ones for the reasons you'd expect, though most of them I can respect as nuanced/complex characters and write/portray them as such. The main ones I dislike being Zote, the White Lady, the Pale King, Soul Master, and the Radiance.

Particularly the Radiance and White Lady. Zote is annoying, Soul Master is a haughty immortality seeking asshole that throws others under the wheels for his own gain, the Pale King is an in-denial deity seeking any methods to purpetuate his kingdom at the ultimate cost of his own kids, etc (at least he had regrets though? I'm not about to defend him though tbh)

But the White Lady and Radiance? Despicable. Both more than capable and willing to throw their own "children" into eternal suffering and hell for the sake of their wars. Radiance infecting and wiping out the entire populace of Hallownest over her fury towards another god for "stealing" from her. Burning everything to the ground and leaving nothing but sickness and corpses. No matter how justified her anger or fear of being forgotten could be, she has laid waste to the entirety of a population in the name of her rage and slaughtered countless mortals caught in the crossfire of a godly spat

The White Lady? Bitch. Biggest bitch. How her responsibility in things is often overlooked in fandom portrayals is astounding to me because, as the only one of the three gods involved in this shitfest that you actually can just talk to ingame, her complete and utter dismissal towards her remaining spawn, from her cold indifference towards Hollow as a "tarnished impure failure" to her insistence that Ghost offer themselves up as sacrifice for a kingdom that they owe nothing to, that left them to die, is vile on a level that makes me despise her the most out of most of these choices here. She then hides away to assuage her own guilt and leaves the rest of the kingdom she claimed to care for to burn, speaking to her last remaining child as an object and pleading with them to lie their neck over the guillotine for a kingdom long since burned to ashes while she does nothing but hide away

I'd fist fight her in a McDonald's parking lot at 2 am and win

- I'm a pretty basic bitch in that most of the characters I like/dislike are also popularly liked/disliked in most fandom spaces but uhhh if I had to pick I'd say Unn. She's kinda just vibing under her lake separate from all the other godly bullshit going on and yeah she's not really trying hard to keep her own land but she's also kinda causing way less problems for everyone else unlike some aforementioned gods in this salt post. Also Greenpath as a nature realm is THRIVING compared to the rest of the burnt up and abandoned husk that is Hallownest so...Unn for the win lol

- Some people spend an excessive amount of time gatekeeping ships and characterizations and it's just..not that serious guys xD

Granted it's not a HUGE problem, but if I had a dollar for every time I have someone showing up in mine, or other ppl's, inboxes to inform them about how their characterization/au/ship for XYZ character is "incorrect" and lives rent free in their mind in a negative way to the point where they just HAVE to tell you how bad it is, I'd have a hefty pocket full of dollars right now. Other people having harmless headcanons and ships shouldn't consume so much of your time and energy to the point where you NEED to hit up the inboxes of Pale King stans or Quirrelnet/Pale Nightmare/oc x canon shippers to needlessly shit on their day and tell them they should stop liking things because you can't use your mute and block functions to curate your own space accordingly. Log off and go outside and breathe some fresh air, I'm begging you. You can not like or even HATE certain interpretations of characters, you can rant about them in your own spaces, whatever. Orihime is great and I don't give a fuck what people say about her being a weak female character or worse than pink-hair girl from Naruto. She wants more than the Ichigo dick whiff and it's a disservice (on fans AND Kubo's part sometimes) to relegate her to just tits and being Ichigo's wife.

Kubo isn't a good writer and his ideas have so much wasted potential. The reason Bleach works so well is because he has a serviceable-at-best plot with the coolest character designs and imagery ever, and it's easily worth the less than stellar writing.

However, Orihime's confession to Ichigo while he's asleep and how she can't bring herself to kiss him is so sweet and is the best non-tragic canon romance in Bleach. The best canon romance overall is Gin and Rangiku but I digress

Orihime's fear of Ichigo losing himself to his Hollow is entirely justified because of what happened to her brother Sora, and people really understate that aspect of her character during the Ichigo fights she witnesses. Like we get it, haha very funny "Kurosaki-kun!" meme you stole from Reddit.

The Zanpakuto Rebellion arc is the only non-shit filler arc. And most of the reason it's good is because of Muramasa's design and the humanized versions of the zanpakuto we know and love

Aizen and Yhwach are both 100% justified in wanting to get rid of the Soul King.

I don't really get the hype for Toshiro

Regarding waifu wars bullshit, my personal best girl is Kukaku Shiba and she's way too underrated (even by Kubo himself since she has so few appearances)

Chad becoming a boxer is so goddamn stupid and ooc, his abuelo specifically said to NOT use his strength to hurt others. He should've become something like a florist or pet shop owner who protects the neighborhood and is the gentle giant he's always been.

The fact Ichigo is a Hollow/Arrancar/Quincy/Soul Reaper/Fullbringer hybrid is such dumb shonen protagonist bullshit that it actually loops around to being cool

From a writing perspective I think Benedict's Route is the most interesting route (thus my favourite). The fact that everything seems to be going so well, only for the ending to slap you across the face is done so damn well. With a negative character arc of Serenoa becoming a cold king, Frederica falling out of love with him and just staying to do anything to support her people, Benedict winning his quest of vengeance, the implications that Gustadolph is still in power, Norzelia crumbling due to capitalistic exploitations, Roland working with Idore to spread his teachings in hopes of saving others, it's all absolutely brilliant stuff. This route made me feel the most: I felt like shit after finishing it, and realising 'I am perpetuating (or going to perpetuate) the cycle'.

People saying Frederica's Route is second to Golden Route in terms of bringing prosperity and freedom to the most people is odd, for in her route the entire continent of Norzelia suffers an on-going war. Many innocent people are caught in it: civil war in Aesfrost, Glenbrook totally abandoned by Roland (which was bad writing; he should have returned, or the writers should have painted him negatively as a coward abandoning his people), Hyzante still being around and preaching its horrific teaching. It's heavily implied that Norzelia will collapse. Understandable Frederica puts her people's needs first and foremost, as she should. Still it seems odd that she has shown compassion to all [especially those who suffer oppression] and yet doesn't give a damn that the entirety of Norzelia will suffer. I really find it weird that a number of fans paint this route as Golden Route-lite/second to Golden Route, and that the only bad thing to happen is Serenoa's death???

All three non-Golden Routes are extremely flawed and show that there'll always be people left behind/to suffer: that's the point. Of course you can debate which is more beneficial, which is also a point and great to discuss, but in the end none of them are 'all lived happily ever after'. None of them.

Roland's negative character development didn't feel OOC when you play the right routes, BUT there was some clunky executions that made him seem to forget he believed in one thing then completely forgot [horrified by Hyzante's slavery, then forgetting they do that???]. (He doesn't truly believe in Hyzante's teachings; he just wants a quick solution, and falls for the trap of utilitarianism.)

Serenoa being Roland's half-brother amounted to nothing. The plot point could have been Benedict wishing to create a new dynasty to take the throne (as history has shown many times to have happened) as a fuck you to those who used Destra [Serenoa's mother] and nothing would have changed. The half-brother feels like the writers pulling a 'no homo' rather than a 'twist for twist sake'.

Despite Roland ammending in Golden Route and maturing, I still think he shouldn't have been king. Cordelia has always shown a willingness to lead, so she should have been queen.

The game's beginning isn't THAT talkative. It may have trimmed the length but I wouldn't have downright cut back on anything. Really I think there are only two cutscenes (not including Extra Story) that are over 10 minutes? The rest are usually 2 minutes, maximum 5.

I LOVE that each character is unique to another in gameplay. You have three-four healers yet they are so different. It actually makes me want to try out different characters!

There may be more, but those are the ones to come to my head!

Favourite thing about them

What is there not to love about this boy?! He's just so soft and sweet! Sometimes when I write him I get worried that he's getting ooc, but then I watch a clip of him talking to Yami and I'm like "oh my god it's canon you can't make this sweetness up!"

I think my absolute favourite thing about him is his strength. Like, this kid was already having a hard time before he ended up in duel monsters and dark magic related traumatic events. He was constantly bullied and literally had no friends except from Tea, and even then they weren't close. And he's such a gentle kid too. But he survived it all. He kept going. Even though he has a sweet and gentle nature, he isn't as fragile as he seems and was able to carry on.

Least favourite thing about them

He and Yami separating. I refuse to acknowledge that happened, ok?

Favourite line

I can't remember any of them :( except for when he was saying that he was sure he could trust Yami Yugi in episode 13, "I don't know what it all means but I'm pretty sure we can trust him, whoever he is".

Him and Yami/Atem! They're just so sweet with each other, and it's really wholesome to watch them just get along, and protect each other! Unpopular opinion

I'm glad the dub censored Yugi's mother out. I've seen people bashing the dub for it, but I think it actually was a good decision. She only appeared in a single scene, and honestly her appearing in that one scene makes little scene considering she is fully absent for everything else. If you didn't see that one scene you'd assume Yugi lived with just his grandpa, which makes more sense as said grandpa is genuinely involved in Yugi's life while his mother just isn't. So the dub making out that Yugi lives with his grandpa only makes more sense than the sub showing Yugi lives with his grandpa and a mother who only shows up once.

it’s been a difficult go of it. this is the very first time in my life i’m learning myself, and that’s a very complicated thing to try to do at 32. the concept of ‘having things figured out’ isn’t quite a logical concept at all nowadays.

i’m grateful for learning i can be loved, and in a huge way a lot of you have contributed to that. @shelassos is always so supportive and always has a kind word when i really need it like intrinsically. @crimeloyalty is one of the most marvelous writers i know, and has rekindled in me an old love of something i didn’t even know came true for me (yeah, batquinn is very dear to my heart and i’m not kidding when i say it’s so healing to think something that beautiful i always wanted came true???). @rekhenung is my brother, the person who i can confidently say we’re on a forever journey together, and whenever i look over there you are, and making me prouder every day. @inexactexpiration has been a close, close, close, very bestie brother mine for so long i got to see him get married, and witnessing and feeling his happiness was my greatest joy. @vorcotec is one of my most cherished people and no matter what, i’ll never ever feel like i can do anything but go to rabbit as though nothing has ever changed. @bornbreathless has made me want to write my goddamn oc again, truly. has made me realize i can make something worthwhile, and inspired so much of the development that kitty would not be who she is without you today. @misereternal has always been the best of all and any, standing by no matter how many ages i tend to disappear for. and so talented at sparking my creativity— at making me feel loved when i need it the most. without my fox shaped sibling sometimes i don’t think i’d know what it felt like to feel accepted. @zloslwy might only just be someone i’m speaking to now closely, but i’ve always admired with such great ferocity the talent and unabashed passion they attack every character of theirs, and i find myself more often than not inspired just by reading their work. @pessimistics has been wonderfully welcoming to a passion i have for a show i have not seen simply because i developed a passion for a character from said show i have not seen only through hart’s work. rustin’s so important to me, and i mean that, and i only know what you’ve written. @atrohphy is a constancy i cannot tell you how much i adore— not just a bright light, but a person i always feel like i can say practically anything to. pitch anything to, and receive back some ingenuity. @villainsrph is someone i met through a fucking accidental giveaway and to this day i can’t go through a moment without thinking about spending two hours on a random friend date in burrito bar having what i still consider one of the most fun times of my life, and i always feel welcome with briar, who has a talent for making everyone feel welcome. @asteritm has left me messages that at times have legitimately saved my entire day from the depths, and sometimes just straight up saved me. @parameddie is one of the most intelligently thought out writers i’ve ever, ever seen and i’m in love with every single thing ric writes because all of it is fascinating. all of it is driven by such a powerfully analytical lens— none of her characters are ever just characters, but they’re studies, too. @jokethur does such beautiful writing that there isn’t a day goes by i don’t find myself idly scrolling headcanons just out of curiosity limitless. i think i’ve rattled off everything i can through my glasses fogging constantly. @standbetween is an absolute gift. a person whose positive vibes emanate into my life. a dude who writes a character so marvelously that frankly i care not about the series. I care about thom and bishop’s heart and that’s all.

i have been through a relationship that i genuinely thought was it, but it was an experience i had, and i still got through it— albeit delayed, with the help of a lot of you guys. a lot of you i love so much. through my mom’s sickness, losing her; through grad school and fluctuating depressions— through so much of the hard stuff, you have been here for me. and for that i am grateful. i am thankful for the patience and love i’ve been shown at my hardest and i’m thankful for the honesty i’ve been given when i’m at my most difficult. i’m just thankful for all of you, and i need you to know that.

writing is my catharsis. musing is my catharsis. thinking, talking, creating, is all my catharsis. and i wouldn’t have it without you all.

Favorite moment: THIS IS SO HARD, I love many many of his moments. I guess one moment I really love is his apology to the druid boy who possessed Elyan, like FUCK that was a powerful moment and gave Arthur such depth

Idea for a story: I have written multiple and have multiple on the backburner lol. I guess one I really wanna do is one where Arthur meets Merlin and knows he's a sorcerer right off the bat and has to help him hide from Uther

Unpopular opinion: I am very happy we got to see THE moment that Arthur learned Merlin had magic and that he wasn't just like "I knew all along"

His kindness. His resilience. HIS LOOKS. Look, call me shallow, idc, 1980's Mark Hamill is the sexiest human being I have ever laid eyes on. I love Luke's character, love that he is wise despite being naïve, kind despite knowing cruelty, powerful despite experiencing weakness. He's portrayed as the typical, run-of-the-mill Straight White Male Protagonist, but subverts those expectations by rejecting violence and choosing to spare his greatest enemy. He's my favorite fictional character of all time and I will die loving him.

Impression now: oh he is such a mess (affectionate). the friend everyone has a crush on for no reason but he's too clueless to realize and breaks everyone's hearts. i think he is genuinely a really really good guy but he has no concept of what is acceptable in social situations (grew up alone on an island surrounded by monsters) so he comes off as kind of callous and mean sometimes without meaning to be. i love this about him. super gullible but also rlly smart. we have the same awful taste in movies (derogatory) (affectionate)
