New TOH Content From Disney's Chibiverse Valentine's Day Episode!
youtube
Since the episode is both A.) Over 22 minutes long & B.) Features numerous characters from various Disney owned IP's; I will only be posting screenshots that contain TOH characters.
Now that's out of the way... Let's get started!
Tumblr media
Considering how Lumity heavy this Chibiverse episode is, it amuses me that Hunter is the first TOH character to make an appearance.
Tumblr media
He's manning the kiss cam! He takes the responsibility very seriously.
Tumblr media
Lumity arrives! On... Stringbean... wearing outfits that they don't wear in Season 3. You know, the season Stringbean hatches in.
I suppose the Chibiverse never claimed to follow continuity, lol.
Tumblr media
The episode has a "couples compete against other couples in a game show" set up. Luz and Amity are chosen as one of the couples to compete!
Tumblr media
The Chibiverse episodes aren't really much more than the Chibi Tiny Tales shorts complied together, with some new animated content revolving around a wafer thin "plot" being used to connect the segments.
In this segment, Luz is riding a rollercoaster!
Tumblr media
And now she's on a ferris wheel with Amity! Mere seconds after being seen riding another ride, lol.
Tumblr media
Game show format.
Tumblr media
Lumity tease another couple about how they're totally in love with each other despite claiming to be friends by mentioning that they also started out as friends. (And before that, enemies!)
Tumblr media
Anyone else wondering why Amity's eyes have been half-lidded nearly the entire time?
Tumblr media
Lumity being recognized and used in official Disney licensed content!
Amusingly, instead of it being called their "ship name", it's referred to as their "power couple" name. Lol.
Tumblr media
This little point icon thing-y is adorable.
Tumblr media
But I think that the little heart with their faces on it on top of it is even more adorable, lol.
Tumblr media
Next bit of TOH related content in this episode, the Lumity Date Chibi Tiny Tales short!
I did not screenshot any of it because it can be found elsewhere online.
Tumblr media
Question one for the couples: What's your partner's favorite food?
Tumblr media
And Amity's favorite food is apparently fairy pie! This makes the fact that she made a fairy pie was Luz at one point even sweeter than it already was.
Tumblr media
And Amity loves it! Luz blushes with pride.
Tumblr media
More teasing!
Amity also looks weirdly like a cat in this 'shot, lol.
Tumblr media
Second question for the couples: What is your partner's favorite color?
Turns out, Amity's is lavender!
(Also: Glyphs apparently work in the Chibiverse.)
Tumblr media
Only that's actually... wrong?!
As it turns out, Amity's real favorite color is... periwrinkle.
Tumblr media
Luz & Amity try to argue that lavender & periwrinkle are so similar that they might as well be the same color, but no sell.
Tumblr media
Yet more teasing. This is the main running gag for the episode, and yes, by this point, it starts to feel like it's overstayed it's welcome.
Tumblr media
And now it's time to watch The Amphibia House Chibi Tiny Tales short!
I don't know what this short has to do with "love" (Since all of the shorts are supposed to revolve around it in this episode), but maybe it considers Luz and Anne's new friendship to be a form of platonic love or something. Lol.
Tumblr media
Time for the final question!
Tumblr media
What does your partner want to be when they grow up?
Tumblr media
We never actually get to see either Luz or Amity answer this question.
Tumblr media
Because they tie with another couple and thus "win" the game show basically by default, lol.
Tumblr media
But we do get to see them kiss on the kiss cam!
Tumblr media
I literally just included this because Luz & Amity are both blushing.
Tumblr media
Enough Lumity! Now let's get some eleventh hour Huntlow!
Tumblr media
I love how this is how we finally got an official Huntlow kiss, lol. Hunter is about as shocked as I was to see it!
And that's all folks. Hope you liked my rundown!

So, you hear about that Chibiverse series that's coming on July 31st? Are you excited knowing it's the one time you'll see Amphibia, Owl House, Molly McGee, Gravity Falls, and other Disney TVA shows in a crossover? Looks like Sasha and Marcy will appear in chibi form (Sasha in her toad rebellion armor in 2B/3A and Marcy in her chief ranger outfit minus the cloak) and the girls' band will be a thing there (albeit Marcy plays guitar and Anne plays drums for some reason).
I heard! I haven’t gotten a chance to properly check it out yet, but I’ve see a few short clips, and it looks absolutely adorable! Although yeah, not sure why Marcy wouldn’t. E on the drums and Anne with the guitar since that’s how it was in the show. A bit weird.

i don’t think lumity is why TOH got cancelled
at the risk of having the fandom jump down my throat, i just wanna say-- i don’t think we should blame TOH “not fitting the Disney brand” ENTIRELY on Lumity
this is gonna be long so inserting a read more here
don’t get me wrong! i’m sure Dana Terrace’s relentlessness in fighting for queer main characters was a contributing factor. however, and i say this as both a Lumity shipper and a queer person myself, the TOH fandom has a nasty habit of putting on blinders for everything in the show that doesn’t involve Lumity also amity generally but the fandom’s lowkey racism isn’t today’s topic lol
so! my reasons as to why i believe it isn’t entirely Lumity/homophobia that got TOH booted is that 1) Terrace said it herself that it wasn’t the queer themes. could she be lying due to an NDA or the already shaky fate of s3? yes, however, i’m inclined to believe her. 2) the decision to cancel after s3 was apparently made “before Agony of a Witch premiered”, which means the only openly gay thing that had happened so far was Enchanting Grom Fright. i don’t know if canon Lumity had been confirmed/approved at that point so if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t have factored into the decision. 3) Disney is trying hard to capitalize on the LGBTQ community right now. sure they’re homophobic in the ways that matter but you can’t deny that they are trying very hard to make us spend money on their movies with constant “FIRST GAY CHARACTER!!” talk. faux progressiveism is where the majority money seems to be right now, for better or for worse. Lumity might be taking it further than they like, but i think they know the queer fanbase is desperate to spend money on merch and Bob Iger LOVES profit
now, i’m sure many of you are wondering “well if it wasn’t Disney’s homophobia that made them claim TOH didn’t fit the brand, what did?” i’ve got some guesses. first off, let’s look at the reasons Terrace gave. 1) the series is too serialized. i think there’s some weight to this claim. while Amphibia is also very serialized, it has enough episodes unrelated to the overarching plot that Disney can air without alienating new viewers. most TOH episodes that air regularly are from s1, which Terrace has said before doesn’t align with her vision as much and are less serial. so having shows with episodes that they can play whenever with no context is preferred by Disney. again, this claim that a serialized narrative doesn’t fit the Disney brand seems to make sense. 2) the audience skews older. this is a real issue for many cartoon creators working with major networks these days. most notably, Owen Dennis claimed that Cartoon Network cancelled Infinity Train because it was shifting its focus to adults and there was no entry point for children. TOH’s equal focus on developing Eda as much as Luz might have ultimately hurt it. this could also explain why Ducktales 2017 got the boot, as i believe the creator has mentioned that Disney was always unhappy when they wanted to make episodes that focused solely/majorly on Scrooge and other adults. and lastly... 3) COVID-19 and the need for budget cuts. let’s face it folks... TOH has always been Disney’s least favorite. it hasn’t had any Theme Song Takeovers (when its sister show Amphibia has had 3), Chibi Tiny Tales, OR been featured in Broken Karaoke. however, The Ghost and Molly McGee already has 2 Chibi Tiny Tales and it just premiered. yes, King got featured in Chibi Tiny Tale, but that cameo lasted like three seconds. yes we got “Owl Pellets” and “Look Hooo’s Talking” but compared to Amphibia and Big City Green’s many shorts (aka the other main animated shows airing alongside TOH), it’s nothing. TOH was always doomed to be the martyr.

Note
The other shows that got Chibi Tiny Tales usually got more than one short (Phineas and Ferb had like three and I think Amphibia has 5 or 6) so there is hope for more Tangled ones! Though it is likely they got more because PnF had a movie to promote at the time and Amphibia is still an ongoing show.
We shall see!
(I mean, Eden did tweet “Cassandra lives” some time ago... maybe that was in reference to a short??)

Do you find it weird that while Dana and Alex are protective of their shows, Matt Braly(Amphibia which is on the same cloth as GF and TOH) is more okay with Amphibia being involved in stuff like Chibi Tiny Tales and Broken Karaoke(plus Theme Song Takeover). I'd also throw in for Disney TVA story arc driven show creators Daron(granted Star vs didn't have those since it aired on XD for seasons 1-3 and wasn't as popular by the time season 4 began on DC) and Youngberg/Angones (though DT 17) too.
Matt is based making the show more interactive in other forms to make kids more aware of Amphibia.
Disney TVA's Multiplatform Content wasn't founded till 2019, the only things that those shows made for DuckTales for example with their shorts and before that Disney TVA shows where strict on making extra content hence why Gravity Falls and some extent Wander Over Yonder where allowed to make shorts beacuse it was a rare thing for DTVA shows back on the day, so there's your awnser for not Star Vs shorts
