I'm trying to find some help in setting up my old Atari 2600, SNES, and PS1. I've read a bunch of threads about upscalers and those sorts of things, but I'm not ready to drop that kind of money. I have an old VCR that I've held onto for exactly this purpose, and the TV I'm connecting to was bought because it *said* it had an a/v connector.
However, I've unboxed it and discovered it's got a 3.5mm a/v jack for a "compatible adapter (not included)." No more details on the adapter are provided. Now I'm pretty confident that they mean one of these.
However, all I have is one of these.
I know composite and component aren't the same, but should I be able to use either one? I've tried it and the picture is off-center & flickers like the tracking is off. Do I need the connector at the top, or is my issue somewhere else (ie, the vcr's busted).

Official name change to OSG USA Inc. better reflects the company’s core competencies in the industry.
January 23rd 2015
Glendale Heights, Illinois – OSG Tap & Die Inc., a leading manufacturer of taps, drills, end mills, dies, and indexable cutting tools, announced that it has officially changed its name to OSG USA Inc. effective immediately.
The corporate name change was made to better reflect the diverse array of products and services that OSG markets domestically. “It was important to change our name because of the full line of tooling products we offer to the US market beyond taps and dies,” said Mike Grantham, President of OSG USA. “Our customers have come to know us for all of the superior products we offer, so it was time to remove the “Tap and Die” from our name,” Grantham added.
Established in 1968, OSG USA Inc. is a subsidiary of OSG Corporation based in Toyokawa-city, Japan and is a leading manufacturer of taps, drills, end mills, and indexable cutting tools. OSG’s extensive line of high technology cutting tools features exclusive metallurgy, cutting geometries and proprietary surface treatments to help increase productivity, reliability, and tool life. OSG also serves the fastener industry by offering a complete line of thread-rolling, flat, cylindrical, planetary, and trim dies.
The company markets its products to numerous industries including automotive, aerospace, medical, and die mold.
