Stephanie Westin had aspiration of becoming a great writer. She wasn’t sure a University degree in anything would help her. According to her family and friends that was the only place to go next. So, she applied to major in creative writing and minor in art. She was able to get a scholarship that paid for her courses, books and even included a meal stipend. She planned to work hard. Take the maximum load of courses each semester and be done in two years, maybe three at the most.
Axel Cluney never had anything handed to him. He worked his ass off from the time he could find a job outside of the house. He washed dishes in restaurants, mowed lawns and painted houses but when his Dad’s buddy, Derick, let him work in his tattoo parlor he had found his calling. That’s how Derick would put it anyway. Axel just liked the job didn’t get in the way of his other creative outlet, His band Zeigeist.
It was Derick who encouraged Axel strongly to get a degree in business with a minor in art so he could take over the tattoo parlor when Derick retired. Axel reluctantly agreed. Derick had practically raised him when his Dad ditched town a few years after his Mother passed away. Axel was fourteen and just wanted to quit school to go look for his Dad who never treated him very well anyway. Derick convinced Axel not to quit. He encouraged him to do better than Axel ever thought he could. He was a better Dad to him than his Dad ever was, which Axel never told him.
The first week of classes. Neither Stephanie nor Axel knew where anything was located. When they finally found room twelve in the creative art’s building, they almost bumped right into each other reaching the door at the same time from opposite sides. They looked at each other a second. Stephanie smiled. Axel just had a blank look on his face as he opened the door and let her go through first.
She sat up front in her fitted blue jeans and red V-neck long-sleeved t-shirt. He sat in the back in his long sleeve black turtleneck and dark denim jeans. She still noticed the tattoos on his hands and fingers. Also, how his green eyes seemed to make her nervous. Axel noticed how her wavy blonde hair fell to the opening of her shirt revealing the tops of her ample breasts. He licked his lips absentmindedly.
Come Thursday evening Stephanie already felt overwhelmed with schoolwork. The syllabuses she received from each class had reading assignments and project deadlines for the whole semester. But since she had the work in front of her she thought she would just get it all done in a few days or maybe weeks other than the tests she would have to wait for instructors to give her. She shared a dorm room with Bella. She only had seen her briefly at the beginning of the week.
“We are going to be great friends,” Bella hugged Stephanie tight when they first met. “We will have great adventures. Working towards a goal is great but you have to live life girl.”
Stephanie laughed at Bella uncomfortably. Stephanie likes her privacy bubble and studying towards her goals just fine. There would be time to “live life” later.
Bella opened Stephanie’s bedroom door when she got to their dorm room, “Come on and get ready Steph. Its Thursday night. You have all weekend to study. You need to go see my friends band play at Hide & Seek. We can walk so we can stumble back drunk if need be.” She laughed.
Stephanie looked at her like she was speaking a foreign language. “I’m fine. I just started organizing my studying, so I get the most done in the least amount of time. I have an art project due in a week. I need to do a portrait of someone interesting. So…”
“I will find you lots of interesting people.” Bella said. “It will be like your studying to find that perfect portrait specimen. You go this one time and if you don’t enjoy yourself, I will never ask you to come party with me again.”
Stephanie looks at her new roommate exasperated, “alright, I’ll go. What kind of music does your friends band play?”
“My friend, Rick, is in a metal band called Dark Breed.” Bella brushed her long ebony hair.
Stephanie took her hair down from the bun she always wore when studying. Then brushed it out adding a bit of shine oil to bring her waves back to life. Both girls touched up their makeup in the mirror.
“You are so easy to share the mirror with Steph.” She touched up her mascara. “Your so short I can see right over you.”
“Thanks,” Stephanie put some light pink natural looking lip stain on your lips. She wasn’t sure if what Bella said was really a complement, but she tried to look past short girl jokes she has been hearing all her life.
It’s a great evening for a walk. The air is crisp with fall smells as Stephanie and Bella walk to the club. Bella goes on and on about the club she is taking Stephanie to and how the people just welcome everyone that aren’t critical of others.  As soon as they walk in Stephanie hears the buzz of amps being setup. Some drummer practicing beating down hard on his set. And a guitar being tuned. She doesn’t even glance towards the stage as she paid five dollars and Bella pulls her over to introduce her to her friend that plays bass.
Stephanie heard some guitar, bass and drums form a song. Then a familiar voice starts to sing.
“Stick around. Talk to him. I would kill for love. I would kill for love. Stick around, for what you miss. He will spread you love, spread you…”
Stephanie looks up hearing the beautiful vocal backed up by a heavier sound. It’s the guy that opened the door for her Monday. He is covered in elaborate tattoos. His voice easily grabs Stephanie as everyone else around her continue to talk.
“Don’t believe in us from then. I will kill for love. Kill for love. Who are you now turning me down, turning me down, as long as you can cum we can fuck all night, as long as you cum we can fuck…”
Bella finally notices Stephanie’s infatuation with the sound. She smirks as she stands behind her with her hands-on Stephanie’s shoulder. “I told you, you would like it here.”
Stephanie said in a voice not quite comprehending her surroundings, “Yeah.”
“That’s Zeitgeist.” Bella said. “The singer is Axel. He’s hot, right?”
“He’s in one of my classes.” Stephanie said.
The song continues to play. “as long as you can cum we can fuck…they all want your legs, they all want your legs facing the moon…But do they cum into you…”
The crowd in front of the stage is moving to the music. The next song they perform starts off slow enough. But a mosh pit starts to circle. Rick and his guy friends stand in front of Stephanie and Bella so they can enjoy the music without having to be involved in the malay.
Axel starts in a soft voice, “Muscle was your man, and through your self-arising plan, you took this kindness that I showed in places special to their core, and shoved me out of your promising timeline, after give me those good signs, stranger tell me why you picked my brain to ask just where you might find…” The song starts to crescendo. The mosh pit starts to bounce off each other. “Come again my snow-white shroud, I will take your hand and you will say…” Axel’s voice gets gravely and deep as the pit starts bang into each other roughly and the music increases intensity. “My first seven days, my first breath of pain, you self-loathing bitch, your cut with need no stitch…” The music intensifies on as Axel bang his head holding the mic away. The pit goes nuts until the music slows again for another bridge of the song before Axel ends it with a howling scream while the people in the pit go nuts.
It’s the most amazing experience Stephanie ever felt at a concert and she had been going to concerts from right before she was born. Her Dad is a hippie rocker that took her to see Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd. Her mom is more into main-stream nineteen-seventies music taking her to see Captain and Tennille in which they let her sit and pet their dog on stage when she was a baby while they sang Muskrat love. And her name was already in a song that played on the radio because her mom and dad knew the singer. Her mom sat at the piano while the singer wrote the song and asked about her daughter. And that’s how her name got in the song.
Axel jumps off stage as his band cleans up their equipment. Some guy screams, “Hey Axel, sounds like you need some Pussy.”
Axel screams back at the guy, “Its not quantity. Its quality. And your girl is fucking finger licking good.” He licks his middle and index finger before flipping the guy off.  Then he turns seeing Stephanie a few feet away. He freezes like a deer in headlights.
Bella said, “Hey Axel, I guess you have seen Steph around but not been really introduced.”
Axel gains his composure. Stares with a hard ass look on his face and just nods. He leans over Stephanie to whisper something in Rick’s ear. He crosses his arms when he stands back up straight. Glance at Stephanie a second. Looks back at Rick, “Well?”
“Yeah, we can start with that, Axel.” Rick said. “Just tell your lead.”
Axel jumps back on the stage and whispers something to his lead guitar player before disappearing into the restroom. Rick takes his leave from Stephanie and Bella to get ready to play. Bella heads to the front of the stage. Stephanie is right beside her. A few husky guys get between them and the ever growing mosh pit. Axel’s band’s guitar player is on stage with Dark breed. So, there is two guitar players, bass, and drums as the lead singer for Dark Breed, Mick, takes the stage.
“We’re going to do something special for you tonight.” He said. “We only performed this with Axel & Todd one other time. Maybe some of you saw that performance. It’s called Light Bulb.”
The crowd goes crazy as Axel steps out on the stage again. “Fuck you Axel,” Stephanie heard someone say. Axel flipped them off.  He paces the stage as he prepared. Mick paced the opposite way. They both look like caged tigers ready to devour the crowd if let off the stage. There is silence in the room as the music begins.
Mick starts low just saying, “suffocate” in the back ground as Axel starts to sing, “Insatiable you pay again, for nothing for nothing, spongin the blood without defense, for nothing, for nothing, and all of this is on your knees, for nothing, for nothing, pulling the sheets over her feet, for nothing, for nothing.”
Mick whispers into his mic, “anguish, alone. suffocate”
Axel continues, “Your saving her, eight times a day, for nothing, for nothing, and when your late you must explain, for nothing, for nothing, you suffocate, you suffocate, for nothing, for nothing…On your own time, such a long time, It’s alright, broken ones enjoy those chains, And don’t fight, nothing ever gets away…”
Stephanie finds herself getting emotional over the melodic song. Bella sees her and stands behind Stephanie holding her. They sway as the song continues.
Axel sings, “Don’t say the word love. I remember you when you were alone, and you seemed as happy then. It’s alright, broken ones enjoy those chains, And, don’t fight, nothing ever gets away…from here…”
“From here,” growls Mick in the background.
Axel and Mick sing, “I don’t think I need this, just go away. And I’m sure I need this. Won’t you please stay…”

Made to bee?
Taiyang Xiao Long was happy. Really, he was. But there was this unsettling tightness in his chest that wouldn't leave him alone...
It's not that Taiyang Xiao Long doesn't like Blake Belladonna. It's just that... it's all very familiar. Blake is a good girl. Blake is different. Blake came back. But still, she left Yang, and broke his daughter to the core in a time of need. He does not dislike her. He just sees a lot more of Raven in her than he would like.
He tries to tell himself that no, Blake won't make the same mistakes as Raven. No, she won't leave Yang again. Not after everything they went through. Hell, they killed a man when they were only nineteen. They helped defeat Salem. They went through much more to strengthen their bond than Raven and himself ever did. Taiyang and Raven were young and raw when they decided to marry each other. Yang and Blake are different.
Still, when he got the golden and purple invitation, he couldn't help but feel his heart sink. A wave of memories ran wild in his mind. Blake is different. Blake won't hurt her. Blake won't leave her. Not like what Raven did to us. Not like what Raven did to me. That's what he told himself in his mind, but his heart was held in its place by his stomach.
He tries to smile when the fiancees come over. He makes them lunch, they share stories, Yang tells him about how Weiss and Sun are going crazy with the preparations of the wedding. Blake looks at Yang lovingly as she talks, with a smile. Nothing changed. Nothing changed between them, Blake looks at her with as much love as the day Taiyang met up with the group in Vacuo. He noticed that day, and he notices now.
They love each other. He knows that. He loves them. But somehow, this feels different. This is scary for him. And Blake catches up on that while Yang is doing the dishes, jamming to some band's song- Nevermore?- and starts conversation.
"You know..." The woman says. "Ten years ago, I vowed to not break my promise to her. That I wouldn't leave." She smiles at him sadly, amber meeting blue. "I'm not her. I'm not Raven. I love your daughter more than I think I could ever love anybody. She's everything to me, Tai."
"I... know." Taiyang smiles back at her, and a more upbeat song about gardens of ecstasy start playing at the kitchen. "I just..." a sigh. This was hard. "Don't worry about it. You make her happy. That's all that matters."
It leaves his mouth as if it settled something. It was more like he was trying to convince himself. Blake nods, but he sees her jaw tighten, as if her demons are earing at her, all at once. He ears go down, making her look defeated. Thoseears never lied... Taiyang didn't mean to do that to her. He didn't mean to feel this way either. Gods, it was so hard. Why was it so hard? He said it himself, all that matters is that Blake makes Yang happy. Then why was it this damn hard.
Not many days after the two women visited, Yang called him. Apparently, Blake was overworking, and she only did that when she was overthinking. It only started after their day at Taiyang's house, and Yang wanted to know why. It was not accusatory. She just wanted to know what happened.
"I-I..." his voice caught in his throat. "We... uh... talked."
"About what, dad?"
"She told me she would never leave you. That she loves you, but..." Taiyang was crying by this point. "I could only think of Raven, Yang..."
Silence. One or two moments of silence passed.
"She proposed to me, dad. I don't think she would do that if her plan was to leave." Yang's voice was low, a mix of tears, and anger. "She's not like mom. We both have known that for far too long."
And that was the last time father amd daughter talked for the following moth before the wedding. Every single time Blake was on the news, giving a speech as the ambassador of Faunus Rights, he felt his heart clench. She looked tired. So, so tired. And every single time there was a comment about Yang's new mission going less flawlessly than the past ones, the guilt filled him.
According to Ruby, who kept in touch with both of them, they didn't seem to be upset with each other, but she had found them having more moments of comforting each other than she had seen in some time. Ruby gently implied that he fucked up. He knew he did, oh gods, he knew he did.
And that's why he feels like he does not deserve to be on the first row, with Ruby and Qrow to his left and Kali Belladonna to his right. The ceremony iz held in Menagerie, and Ghira would be the one to marry them. It is the tradition of menagerian marriages, the chieftain to celebrate the ceremony. He has a spark in his eyes as he talks about the two young women kneeled facing each other. How they click. How their souls belong to each other. How this was always meant to be. It is beautiful. The Belladonna man had a way with words, just like his daughter, and pours every bit of emotion into the speech.
Then, it's time for their vows.
"Blake Belladonna. Remember when I said you were a lost cause?"
"How to forget?" Blake's sarcastic remark makes everyone, including Taiyang himself, to laugh.
"Well, I was wrong. You are a cause worth fighting for, Blake. I love you with every inch of my being and every beat of my heart. I don't know who I would be without you. You may still think that there are things that were your fault," Yang emphasizes that by clenching Blake's hang with her prosthetic lightly, "but they aren't. It all made me grow, made me become who I am today. I am stronger now, Blake. Although I would enjoy feeling you with both hands, I would do it all over again for you. And it's because I love you so much that, under this sky of sun, I give my body for you to have, my heart for you to cherish, and my soul for you to love." Yang puts a golden ring in form of dragon, which has eyes shining with gold, on Blake's finger. They share an aura bond. He can tell that the ring is sealed by Yang's aura.
That makes tears come to Blake's eyes, and she smiles at Yang, a smile so big that reaches her eyes and lit her face up. "I am so grateful for that night you interrupted me while I was reading. Yang Xiao Long, even as we are away, I still feel like my heart is with you. You are the like that makes the shadows of my past cease, that chases the demons of my mind stop torturing me. When I'm not with you, I feel that I cannot shine, and I can't leave you, my sunshine. I fall in love with you every single day, and I know that I'll never stop falling for you, even when death comes. And it's because I love you so much, that under all the pieces of the shattered moon I vow you my body for you to have, my heart for you to cherish, and my soul for you to love." Blake kisses Yang's left hand and puts there the black ring in form of a panther, which has eyes shining in a purple light.
With that, Ghira tells the brides may kiss, his eyes teary. As they do, Taiyang wipes his tears. Somehow, his doubts disappeared as Blake said her vows. Oh, he doesn't believe for so long he doubted this beautiful, loving woman. Blake loves Yang, Blake will never leave her. And now he doesn't need convincing, his heart just believes it. The pair gets up and looks at him, as he is not the only one clapping.
Taiyang doesn't know what he is doing until he has both in a tight hug. The crowd gasps, and so do Blake and Yang, but then they wrap him in a hug as well. He cries in their shoulders, soaking Yang's blue smoking and Blake's uncovered shoulder, since her yellow dress' straps fell off her shoulders.
"I'm sorry, girls. I'm so, so sorry." He pulls away, putting his hands on each of the girls' soulder. He smiles at Yang, whose tears are cascading down her face, and whose smile lights up her whole face. Then, Taiyang looks Blake in the eyes, those golden pools shining with tears and care. "I am specially sorry to you, Blake. I don't know what was in my head. Guess I lost the majority of my brain cells with Raven, huh?"
The girls remain silent for a while, and then laugh. It's okay. They're all okay. And from now on, Taiyang Xiao Long knows they belong nowhere but with each other. Their souls are bonded together, as they are bound to be.

A Vaguely Familiar Holiday
Also on AO3
This happens after the conclusion of both  Something Familiar and It Sounds Familiar, but before A Familiar Detail, however, it probably can be read on its own.
This is also the day 21, Solstice Bonus of my ML WIP-Completion Challenge.
Chat woke slowly, stretching under the warm blankets and not even bothering to open his eyes. He was warm and comfortable, and though he knew it was well past his usual wake up time, there was no rush.  The whole house was calm.  His father's house had been calm on Winter Solstice, too, though perhaps abandoned and bleak would have been better descriptors.
As he breathed in through his nose, the scents of cinnamon, nutmeg, and apple filled him.  He groaned a little. Marinette had said that making the wassail was her job, or one of them, for the family celebration of the holiday.  While the solstices were observed in the Agreste household, it was always a quiet affair and not much of a celebration.  At least not since his mom left.  He was curious to see what was customary in normal families. He'd only been in therapy a month now, but he already recognized that there had been nothing normal, and very little that was okay, about his upbringing and his father's home.
Pushing away his blankets, he rolled to the side to get out of bed.  Scampering on bare feet, he crossed the room and opened the hatch his witch must have closed so he could rest. She was so good to him! He'd spent the last month adjusting to a new schedule including school and homework. While he liked it very much overall, it had been an exhausting adjustment on top of so many other things.
Quiet singing met his ears as he descended the stairs, and he peered over the railing to see Marinette, Mama, and Papa working together in the kitchen.  The song was unfamiliar, but something about it touched the very core of his being, and he froze. He felt suffused with the warmth of love and family.  Though this was the shortest day, the song gave him hope that the coming light would bring even more good things.
Marinette looked up and caught Chat Noir's eyes peering over the banister. Continuing to sing, she smiled at him, waving with a hand that held a green bit of plant.  They had reached the chorus again, and she beamed at each of her parents while she continued her work.  This was their traditional blessing of the ingredients for their feast.
By the time they reached the end of the song, Chat had crept down the stairs and into the kitchen, seating himself at the counter to watch. Though he was nearly seventeen, his face held the bright joy of a young child who has been able to stay awake through the longest night to watch the sunrise for the first time.
"Good morning Kitty," she said, setting aside the thyme and reaching over to pat his head.  "Did you sleep well."
He closed his eyes and tilted his head to press against her hand, humming happily. "I did.  It was very nice to lie in."
"You've been working hard.  You deserved it."  It still stunned her that he'd never really had a routine sleep schedule.  His father had him up at all sorts of hours for photo shoots, and no one bothered to keep track of how rested he was.  As a cat shapeshifter, he had the napping thing down, though, and it had probably been the only thing keeping him from sleep deprivation.
"What was that?  It was beautiful," he gushed.  "What have I missed?"
"It was the blessing of our feast, before it's prepared," she explained. "Since it's such a big deal, we like to help make sure it all turns out well."
"And we'll be cooking all day," Papa said. "There will be ample opportunities for you to help out."
Chat smiled and nodded.  "Oh yes.  Put me to work."
Mama slid a tray of special winter treats, including her favorite Lusskatter, onto the table. "You'll start by helping us polish off some breakfast."
"That's hardly work," Chat pointed out, then he closed his eyes and sniffed the aromas drifting off the tray.  It was nice to see him so relaxed in human form.
"You can't make it through the longest night without adequate preparation," Mama said.
"And it's not a day of just work," Papa added. "Time together is the most important thing. We have lots of little rituals and trappings that hold meaning for us, but those aren't the essential parts of solstice celebration."
Chat smiled, taking a cheese croissant off the plate.  "This is all so new for me."  He wiggled his legs a bit to get rid of some excess energy.
"You said your family celebrated Winter Solstice," Marinette said, looking puzzled.
"We didn't really celebrate anything," he explained. "It was a guaranteed day off, mostly because father couldn't expect anyone to work on this day.  But it wasn't anything special."  He shrugged.  "It was kind of dour, to be honest."
Mama let out a sound of dismay.  "Well that simply won't do, Chat.  This is supposed to be an occasion of merriment and joy."
"Our ancestors thought the only way to bring back the sun was to tempt it with song and food," Papa added.  "While we have the actual science behind the astronomical phenomenon, it's still a time of great magic and very much worth celebrating."  He patted Chat's shoulder.  "We'll show you the proper way to do this, son."
"I'll be a good student," Chat promised.
"You'll enjoy yourself," Mama ordered, though she softened it with a smile.  "Now you should have some of Marinette's wassail. It's the best way to start your solstice morning."
"And every morning as long as it lasts," Papa added.
