tdr is literally 2013 era tumblr fanfic — gay relationship with zero substance, too afraid to give anyone a personality or conflict, complete disrespect of legacy characters, and blatant misogyny. truly the best of all worlds thanks megan
genuinely i did have the thought while reading it that 13yos on fanfiction.net have written better stories than this. at least i can forgive a 13yo for not knowing what character flaws are. but the fact that megfitz got paid for this shit? insane. there's so much that's just so bad in here. the misogyny also cannot be dismissed it's true. acting like he was just settling in all his previous relationships? that line pissed me off soooo bad. i Know meghan doesn't even know who zoanne wilkins is lmao

iam a firm believer and enjoyer of nuance However i Am victim to something called The Jester's Clause, which proclaims that if anyone comes to me with a wildly off-the-wall take i legally have to double down in the opposite direction for the bit.

something i think a lot of people forget is that drake and sam’s relationship is very much a two way street. it’s not just sam being terrified of drake because drake terrorised him. drake didn’t torture sam for no reason, to him that was retribution. yes, drake is a violent irredeemable psychopath and even by that point in the series he’d already gone way too far, but sam literally dismembered him. drake was permanently disabled due to sam’s actions and even then, he was aiming for his head. he was attempting to kill him purely bc drake threatened astrid. he never actually managed to get his hands on her. for all intents and purposes, at least to drake, sam struck first. drake never attempted to murder sam before that point, but sam did. he’s not a helpless baby who’s nothing but a victim, he hurt drake just as much as drake hurt him.

yknow playing last specter for the first time felt so different for a number of reasons, but i think a huge part of it was because of the shock due to the sheer contrast in layton’s personality from UWF. listening back to layton’s UWF voice clips after being so used to prequel layton in general was so jarring because in that game, he’s SO serious. his voice is deeper and his tone more to the point. his lisp is a little more harsh, even his humor is different. he approaches things with a no-nonsense attitude and chuckles at general mishaps.
so in UWF, i think he’s more mature overall and the most serious we’ve even seen his character in a game… which is SUCH A CONTRAST to LS layton, who is arguably the most unserious we’ve ever seen him. this man chases cats and jokes about the police behind their backs, and his humor leans on the side of being at the (minor) expense of others. his voice lines are *noticeably* more sarcastic, especially in this game’s reveal/point scene. the tone of UWF is so somber; he’s very experienced and almost tired. but LS is likely the first big adventure he’s been on. we see that in his character at the end too, when he’s in awe at the golden garden and makes the proclamation that he will go on and solve more mysteries, and when luke begs to come him and be his apprentice. even his sprites are rounder; they’re a little more baby-faced and a little kinder.
he’s observably younger and newer at this in LS, even if he’s been a professor for 7 years at this point and the time span between LS and UWF is only about 3-4 years of experience on top of that. ig it started having more of an affect on him once he hit the decade mark 😭 but yeah, crm showed that contrast and that pre-character development attitude in hershel absolutely flawlessly and i will never shut up about it

to add on lily’s flaws she also believes james and the marauders rather than severus (which is just bad writing imo) and she tells him to be grateful james saved his life, she also who quickly bites back once you annoy her, she also gave cheeky answers to slughorn when he suggested she could’ve been in slytherin, (i personally hate her sm for her trying to tell severus he should be grateful to james would like to hear your opinions) but yes even her, a briefly mentioned character, is very flawed!
tbh my feeling is more that she just believed a rumour that was going around the school rather than having heard it directly from james. idk obviously we dont know. but teenage girls (and boys) often believe rumours. not that weird. I actually think she wouldn't have believed it coming directly from James given how she acts towards him in SWM, but if the school generally seems to agree that it happened then it's more believable.
re: her telling Sev he should be grateful, I've talked about this before (I think in that very post about lily's flaws) but I don't read it as "you should forgive james for everything he's done" but just this kind of desperate, naive "can't we all just get along and stop fighting" sentiment. it's still not a great thing to say, absolutely it's insensitive and tactless.
however it's always interesting to me how Snape people despise Lily for that singular comment (like that's the worst thing anyone could do lol) when Sev is pretty atrocious to her in that conversation too. He completely dismisses her feelings-- like how is Lily saying he should be grateful any worse than him writing off what Mulciber did to Mary as 'just a laugh'? Sev literally ignores her because he's too focused on his hatred towards the Marauders to hear his muggleborn friend's very valid concerns about the death eater wannabes he's hanging out with.
I don't think it's fair to hold Lily to a different standard than Sev, that's my opinion. If she's insensitive towards her best friend then god is he ever. and idk teen friendships are often like that- immature. they have yet to mature
they are so dysfunctional lol. and i love them for it personally!

Every now and then I'd encounter posts saying Jiang Cheng is this and did that, he should have done this thing and that other thing instead (In short, your garden-variety anti). At the end or at some point, the person would tack:
Did we read the same book?
We did read the same book. But then there's a factor called willfully misinterpreting canon text and events to suit one's need to justify that their Stan Did. Nothing. Wrong. Ever.
Way to take a joke literally.

I had a really really good time at the mario movie, it was a super fun watch and chris pratt's voice acting was honestly fine. like, it wasn't MARIO, but it wasn't terrible at the very least. you know what the ACTUAL problem with the mario movie was? the embarrassing girlbossification of Peach and how the film industry still cannot understand the concept of what a strong female character actually means LOL

Literally. No one. Has ever said Callum and Viren aren't foils. It's just that people who are rooting for Callum to fail don't understand what a foil is. Callum and Viren are foils not just because of their similarities, but also because of their differences.
One: People have said that directly to me in the saga-critical chat in the official tdp server.
Two: Callum and Viren are foils because of their differences, but also because they have similar flaws—and sometimes, characters succumb to their flaws. Characters fail, and that's not failing to "understand what a foil is", it's knowing that Callum is going to make similar mistakes as Viren, but ultimately will overcome them (at least in the context of their foil and tdp. Foils, despite their differences, can still meet the same fate).
We're at point A, and it's a long way to point B. Callum, like Viren, is willing to do "anything in the name of love, however dangerous, however vile". That's going to come back at some point. Callum in s2 used dark magic to save Rayla. He's made a choice like that once, and he'll do it again. He may have sworn off dark magic in s2, but if his connection to the sky arcanum isn't giving him the freedom to do whatever he needs too, is that going to hold up? Is he not going to do whatever he needs to for the people he care's about?
