This has been stewing in my head ever since Post-Dragon Kaneki and the strange way his body works. I have a theory that what's going on with Kurona is actually a "cruder" version of the Dragoneki transformation. Kaneki consumed a whole bunch of people who have the same kagune as him, and emerged with his biology altered from it. Kurona absorbed her twin sister, who not only has the same kagune, but the same DNA (Kurona and Nashiro are identical twins, right?) Her mutations are very Dragoneki-ish

“Dragoneki” isn’t necessarily equal to a tragic ending for Kaneki

Just thought I would write a quick post about this because my dash is filled with people suddenly seeing death flags for Kaneki everywhere. x)

Anyway, as the title mentions, in my opinion the fact that Kaneki became the equivalent of the Nagaraj and is destroying Tokyo doesn’t mean that, ultimately, the only possibility left for him is to be killed by an alliance made between Scarecrow’s side and the ghouls, led by who will probably be Tsukiyama (since he’s another ace card). 

I won’t disagree that it is definitely what Furuta has in mind...

but narratively speaking, in my opinion, at this point it doesn’t make sense for Kaneki to become the “truly great enemy” and to die tragically when:

he doesn’t care about the rebellion

all he ever wanted ever since the very first chapter of TG was to belong in a family.

Kaneki’s OEK role was literally given to him by Eto and Arima...

at a time when Kaneki found that he had no reason to keep on living, which is why he focused on this task, because that was all he had to keep going forward. However...

...and even after his relationship with Touka blossomed, this part still didn’t change....

...the only reason that he “cared” about the future of ghouls mainly being related to Touka and the future he wanted with her (AKA becoming a family).

Now, I think that it’s no secret for anyone, and for Kaneki as well, that this lack of belief is mainly why he never managed to be a good leader:

...Leading to Ayato and Irimi trying to give him advice, and Tsukiyama being tired of the way he does things when they’re at war. So, in the end, it’s not surprising that instead of being the leader fighting for victory, he ends up being only a mean to someone else’s grand plan for the ending:

Back to the point at hand, the other reason I don’t think that redemption and happiness are out of Kaneki’s reach, despite the massacre he’s currently committing, is because...

...the Clowns are the public of this play...

and they already told us at the end of TG (”the tragedy” before :Re kicked in) that Kaneki dying tragically didn’t make for the best ending either (”how lame~”).

Finally, I’d like to add that if Kaneki dies, then Touka’s own development will stagnate because her fatalistic side has grown to be probably too overwhelming for her to manage dealing with it on her own [x] [x] and thus, the only way for her to have hope again is if Kaneki is by her side as well. 

Readers tend to criticize Kaneki’s happiness for resting mainly upon Touka’s survival, but in my opinion the same goes for Touka, because they are a set (as said by Ishida sensei himself).

TL;DR I don’t think that Kaneki is going to die. Redemption is different but I believe that’s when the Ace Cards (Hide, Tsukiyama and Touka) will have their role to play.

A few tumblr posts mentioned that Kaneki predicted his own fate from ch1 with Dragoneki

But I swear I felt deja vu hit bc I’ve seen this dino/dragon thing elsewhere... and realised it’s from the TG 2016 calendar with Saiko

I hope this means that Saiko= pokemon master... and dragoneki will be kinda like her cute Pikachu. The calendar foreshadowed numerous things so I hope this is one! Saiko was also once depicted as a Pokemon master by Ishida in the picture below

Like I wish for nothing more than for Saiko to unleash the badassery hidden within dat lil cutie patootie booty of hers! Btw, Urie’s in the calendar image too & we know there’s the potential of Hide-Urie-Saiko teaming up, so I’m pretty sure they’re on the cusps of saving Maman. Wouldn’t it be sweet if Touka came along & it’d be like a massive “we love u Kaneki” fanclub rescue party? Ayyeee 😍

Watch Ishida pull a "syke Tou//ken was for shits n giggles, here's the REAL deal" and he brings Kaneki and Hide together (without the full chapter of sex because people would absolutely lose it). That, or he kills Hide and calls it a day, could go either way. And your post about how you reread TG & your thoughts made my day so I hope you also have a great day!

My honest opinion is that I don't think Tou/Ken is "for shits and giggles" because it was built up (albeit poorly) for a long while and it has deeply affected both characters involved.I think Touken is meant to be taken seriously BUT we are not supposed to like it. This is supposed to be a tragedy and both characters are victims of abuse that cling to each other when they dont have any other options. It is a very realistic ship but the thing is... relationships like theirs are doomed to fail because its foundations lie in their psychological problems and being together will not allow them to heal. It's called codependency and it isn't good.Regarding Hide/Kane. I don't know if I would ever expect it to become canon at this point in time. Kaneki looks like his only option in death, because he just wouldnt be able to live with the guilt of dragoneki for the rest of his life. Hide does love Kaneki which is really sweet but I doubt we'll see him jump on Kaneki the first chance he gets. Hide isn't like Touka; his primary goal is making sure Kaneki is ok, and initiating a romance (no matter how much he may want it for himself) is not what Kaneki needs. He will try his best to comfort Kaneki like he has done his entire life.

Sui Ishida and Tg:re ending

Let’s keep it short and simple. Ishida is a man who heavily foreshadows the future in earlier chapters. One thing we tend to over look is that the chapters of re are called “bone”. In chapter 75 of act 1 of Tokyo ghoul, this page is a heavy foreshadow, of not just things to come, but the entire second act of the tg series, :re,

The old saying is tragedies come in threes. I heavily and whole heartedly believe tgre will end at ch206 and that act 3 of Tokyo ghoul will be a thing and the true finale of the series as it is stated in the first chapter, kaneki’s life is a tragedy, if there was no act 3 Ishida would have never ended the first act to begin a second.

Tree main points of the halfway mark of Tokyo ghoul re chapter 103 if my theory is correct are doctor kanou and his flashback, Suzuya becoming the ccgs new reaper, and yoriko and takeomi’s proposal. Some of these events are less significant than the others. I believe kanou and the flashback are major as he is described as seeing others as insects, while there is a correlation to kaneki, as he sees himself as nothing more than an insect.

My point being with out rambling on aimlessly. Kanou is still in the shadows two acts in. We finally have a little information and backstory on him 148 CHAPTERS IN!

I totally believe this revelation about kanou can parallel to him being similar to Kaneki, with the loss of their mothers and the change of their personalities and loneliness of secluding themselves in solitude. Especially once Kaneki recalls his mother during the Jason and rosewald arc. Either the pacing is bad or ishida is saving the best for last. If we do have a third it should revolve around him as I think he is more than just who we think he is. Ishida obviously knows what he’s doing with the direction of th series and the hints are there for us to prognosticate the future. I wanted to post this after tgre 143 when people thought the series was ending because the preview said this

I saw some people take this too literal and we should all know by now to read between the lines and not take verything at face value. Ishida trolled us here because the first act ended 143 chapters in, and he knew people would want to see what he does at chapter 144, which is not the end, but the beginning of the end with dragoneki. The halfway mark of act 1 had HUGE FORESHADOWING (chapter 72 called “halfway” of 143) was the half mark of act 1 as I believe the halfway mark of act 2 might as well, (chapter 103 called “almost too much wealth” of ??? Maybe 206). What could this title allude too? We should all go back and reread and try to find more hints ishida left us especially with recent events in the tg universe. I guess now is as good a time as any.

I think the husks kaneki left behind him are bodies who'd have different and gradually growing kakuja forms. Something that's been very consistent with TG is that his kakuja growth is very slow and gradual, so it's a bit jarring that he went from arm armor and beaked mask to massive dildo-monster in one go. My personal theory is that he basically burned through every kakuja form he'd have in between, then immediately discarded them until one body made dragoneki.

Hi Anon! First of all, there is no stupid question. :) 

Secondly, for now the reason Donato and Uta at least (we don’t know about Nico and Itori) have cloning abilities remains unexplained and there are only speculations going around. We know it was foreshadowed to be important for a while…

…but we can’t completely explain that ability yet because we don’t know:

if it is linked to constantly high Rc cells rates, through binge eating (that’s the example of Roma’s slow aging)

if it is linked to special kakuhou

if it is linked to something else

The last post I made on the subject was here and it’s still more or less how I see it but I’ll update with a better explanation. :) In short, for now I think the trick to this ability might be a special kakuhou, which is to say…

…A Washuu’s kakuhou because they cannibalized so much that they’re automatically kakuja from birth. 

((For the record: the Nagaraj’s, Rize’s and Kaneki’s kakuhou are the same, they’re all “Washuus”, the difference being that the Nagaraj and Rize were born like that, while Kaneki reached such a state through artificial experiments))

Now to explain: look at Kaneki in ch146 when he became Dragon, which is to say, in Kanou’s words “complete”:

Don’t you think it looks like a bunch of empty similar-looking “Kanekis” came out of his eye? And we now know thanks to Kimi that…

…the eye the Kanekis came out supposedly represents an area very close to (one of) his (many) kakuhou.

Kimi also said:

that Dragoneki (Kaneki’s kakuja) was made of pluripotent cells. 

To explain pluripotent cells, although I’m not @silverbulletsama​ [x], they are cells that can lead to all of the cell types that make up a body (for example, embryonic stem cells after a certain stage are considered pluripotent). And since the Nagaraj also had a Washuu-based kakuhou, by analogy, we can say that his kakuja…

was made of pluripotent cells too, until it “turned into stone” (according to the 24th ward kids).

Back to Uta and Donato, I think you must be aware by now that there is a theory about Uta being closely related to the previous OEK that became the Nagaraj kakuja (the One Eyed Washuu). However…

it seems the previous OEK could never escape his Nagaraj kakuja, at least with the information we were told so far, meaning that it would be impossible for Uta to be the same guy as 100 years ago if he’s supposedly still trapped down in the 24th ward.

That’s where the idea of the Nagaraj’s kakuja made of pluripotent cells is interesting though, considering what pluripotent cells can do, especially when Furuta shared an old legend about him…

…because, if there is indeed a close link between the One Eyed Washuu and Uta…

…then maybe the Uta we know, the mask maker, is a clone born/made from the pluripotent cells of the Nagaraj’s kakuja.

So in other words, as clones:

they’d look similar

they’d have the same strength

the Uta we know wouldn’t have to be 100 years old

but somehow he might still have the One Eyed Washuu’s memory? (not sure about that one tho’)

Basically Uta, being made from pluripotent cells and having the same kakuhou/kakuja as the Nagaraj (since they’re clones), could even clone himself as well:

Of course that’s if Kimi and those kids are right and the previous OEK, the One Eyed Washuu, never was freed from his Nagaraj kakuja. If they are mistaken, then the One Eyed Washuu = Uta we know, Uta is 100+ years old and fortunately the explanation doesn’t change, since he would still have a Washuu-based kakuhou able to form a kakuja made of pluripotent cells.

That’s my take on how Uta might be able to clone himself => if he takes and uses a part of himself, then maybe the pluripotent cells of his kakuja can make up clones. And, to quote Eto, considering that the shape of a kagune (kakuja too?) depends on one‘s imagination, that’d be how Uta can use that ability to take on the appearance of other people (Arima, Shinohara, Haise).

This whole explanation implies that Kaneki, who’s now “complete” and whose kakuja is made of pluripotent cells too, can now probably clone himself just like Uta, which would be why we saw all these empty Kaneki-looking bodies in ch146 (if they are not Oggai). :))

Finally, about Donato, the explanation is trickier because I don’t know…

 if he has a special kakuhou that allows a cloning ability too, 

or if Uta somehow grafted him with his own kakuja (a bit like how Eto did with Karren for example), 

or if he cannibalized the Nagaraj’s kakuja for a while at some point, that is to say if he ingested a huge quantity of pluripotent cells

…which is how he could have ended up with the same ability. 

So I’ll pass on selecting one explanation for Donato, for now. :) 

There you go, please keep in mind that it’s just my take on it and that I could be completely wrong, so take it with a grain of salt. In the meantime, I hope it helps and that it wasn’t too complicated.
