Equestria Girls: Friendship Games SHC Sorting

This is part 3 of a 4-part series. An explanation of the SHC system by @wisteria-lodge can be found here.

Sci-Twi: Double Bird

Sci-Twi is the version of Twilight from the human world. She's called Sci-Twi by the fandom (it stands for science Twilight) to differentiate her from the other Twilight, who's a Princess. I'll just be calling her Twilight, since it's already established which Twilight she is. Twilight is one of the few people in the movies without a Badger primary model, even though she gets one by the end of the movie.

The only thing that Twilight cares about at the start of the movie is getting into an independent study program, which would mean that she'd be studying alone. She doesn't mind it at all, because knowledge is one of the most important things in the world to her. Twilight is a Bird primary, so she's searching for self-actualization. She wants to get out of her school and explore the world. She wants to understand magic, so much so that she's willing to put everyone in harm's way, including herself. Sunset says that it was purely Principal Cinch's fault that Twilight turned into a demon, but Twilight made the choice herself. Principal Cinch pressured her, but Twilight chose to do it because she wanted to see the magic, not because of Principal Cinch. She's shocked when people are nice to her, and eventually becomes comfortable with an environment where everyone accepts her for who she is. It's the first step to Twilight developing her Badger primary model.

Interestingly for a nerdy character, she flaunts the rules at Crystal Prep, the school that she goes to, all the time. She ignores the rules against pets, and she tends to work around Principle Cinch. It's interesting, since Twilight is a stickler for rules in every other movie. It's more about the difference in environments than anything - when she's surrounded by people who support her, she flourishes. When she's not, she'll get what she wants anyway. She has a Snake secondary model, since she lies to Principal Cinch repeatedly throughout the movie. She drops the model after this movie, so it's probably a coping mechanism to deal with Principal Cinch.

Principal Cinch: Lion Bird

Principal Cinch is the villain of this movie. I'm very unsure about her sorting, but whatever it is, she definitely has a lot of models. She has a Glory Hound Lion primary, and a really strong Authoritarian Badger primary model, so strong that I thought that she was a Badger primary for a while. She could be a Double Bird, which would provide a nice personality contrast to Twilight, but her personal philosophy never shows up in the movie, so it's hard to tell.

She talks about groups all the time, mostly focusing on her school, Crystal Prep. She shows her Lion primary when she talks about how her legacy will be restored; it is the only time she mentions herself instead of the school, though. She also allows her school to be a bastion of competition, with everyone competing for themselves and being miserable. Principal Cinch epitomizes her school; they act like a group, but no one really cares about each other. Everyone expects her school to be the best, so she'll do everything in her power to make sure that they live up to that.

She puts pressure on Twilight by telling her that the whole school is counting on her. She puts her top twelve students into the Friendship Games based on their skills, no matter who they are. She picked Twilight, even though Twilight was bullied and an outcast at Crystal Prep, and she demeans picking students based purely on their popularity. However, she primarily picked Twilight for her abilities; Principal Cinch is very cunning and cold, even though everything that she does is for Crystal Prep.

She preys on Twilight's fears of being excluded to get her to do what Principal Cinch wants her to - she understands people's motivations. She knows that Twilight only wants to see the magic, and uses that desire for her own ends. When Twilight turns into a demon, Principal Cinch runs away, which seems like she only values herself, until she suggests that everyone else should run away too.

As for her secondary, she's very direct. Instead of manipulating Twilight to join the Friendship Games, she tells Twilight that if she doesn't join, her application to her independent study program will be denied. She tells Twilight to spy on the other group for an advantage, not caring when Twilight said that it felt wrong. She has a Bird secondary, since she's willing to change her plan if something else works instead.

Why would Principal Cinch be the villain when Filthy Rich already exists? Rich is the real antagonist of the story of The Legend Of Everfree (I talked about this earlier). What purpose would Abacus Cinch be even there for? If anything you'd need to have Crystal Prep existing with Canterlot high in the movie.

Gloriosa Daisy is a false or just antagonist but you want to shove that she's a villain whatever. Regardless why would Gloriosa know that power would damage her reputation? Why should she know it? and How? It does not make sense and why would Gloriosa care about reputation. Her whole point is trying to save the camp and is running out of time options. Lack of support of people and her brother telling her to accept her fate of losing everything dear to her or the community's past present and future because the greedy wolf (and rarity being spa selfish scrub after she listened to what Gloriosa sung about). She's been practicing and trying to make the last time good for campers.

She's already supportive of characters in the movie, you're wasting your time.

Wallflower Blush should know not to hold grudges whether or they something(s) did something(s) hurt you. Huh? Because it's unhealthy and she should know. Bruh people may hold grudges depending on ones actions and can be reinforced by one's or many's actions. Fricken Forgotten Friendship special shows this. How is one who says they don't exist is going to fulfill that knowing of such unhealthiness and where no support system either has been present? She is avoided and ignored and forgotten. And her side was never truly seen until near the end.

What's your deal with wanting characters to react like goodie two-shoes? What you just said ignores the first two equestria girls movies and future movies or normal series or Tempest Shadow.

Adagio Aria and Sonata fulfilled and looking for reclaiming the magic voice. The Dazzling have no time for memory stone usage, there's even a song of trying to find the magic back.

Your reason for Adagio replacing Wallflower losses sense. You said Wallflower should not hold grudges because it's unhealthy but you implied Adagio should. Aria held a grudge on Adagio in Rainbow Rocks because Adagio wanted the lead all for her self. So what are talking about?

Extra Yeah the Juniper Montage irredeemable because oh she trapped them in a mirror and they could have died. Oh boo who did you watch movie and mirror magic? Why does redeemability matter? You should be well are that your heroes should not cause toxic situations or been in toxic environments. Your heroes have enough movies or special to know better. If you remembered correctly, your hero Starlight Glimmer is the reason your other heroes almost fell into an endless void because she kicked the mirror out of Montage and in got crack a bit when it fell (Then the narrative tells your Juniper's dream being destroyed by the heroes but the dreams get immediately thrown out away because uwu friendship is what she desires but whatever).

Anyways, Your fix-it weaken the story. It weakens challenges Sunset Shimmer or her friends have to face or challenges newer antagonists have to face. You thought it would uplift Sunset huh? Nah it weakens her.

Maybe it's just me, but every time I hear principal Cinch say (paraphrased) "it's interesting that the girls who were nice to you were the ones who progressed" it seems to me as if she's implying Sci Twi was secretly working with the Mane 5 + Sunset because they were nice to her.

But then Principal Cinch says to talk to the Mane 5 + Sunset bc they may let Sci Twi know about the secret to their success. And then I go 'oh wait she didn't mean it that way'

additional fun for my dorky ass twibra au... twilight's friends mimic the elements of harmony in a way that reflects the magic of their pony selves (bc I said so lmao) and it's what brings her back from the brink after principal cinch grenade tosses her little magical collector in her face and blasts her with equestrian magic

details:

Chrysalis represents generosity specifically because of how she's selfish on behalf of her friends. she's absolutely willing to dupe other people and manipulate them if she thinks it'll help out anyone in the squad, even if the fallout could be cataclysmic. This has led to a really bad reputation following her around, and though its not really unprecedented, her friends still keep her around as she means well. It's a bit hard training her out of fawning over other people to try and make them stay, but she just wants everyone well-fed and happy.

Stygian has the loyalty blessing because he's the real ride or die. He would rather physically staple himself to his friends than possibly lose them, especially since he was subject to losing a friend group in the past which left him deserted at a really bad time. Meeting Tempest around that time was the only thing that kept him going, and now he's fiercely protective of his new friend group.

Spike is laughter because I love him. puppy power

Tempest gets honesty because she's extremely blunt, even though sometimes its to the point of insulting, she genuinely just wants communication to be established at any cost. Her straightforward attitude is very effective at stopping Chryssie's schemes and keeping Stygian grounded, and she doesn't mind being an anchor for the team, especially since she used to be team captain on her volleyball team before she lost her arm. The sense of "these people need me" helps anchor her as much as it anchors them.

Sombra can be exceedingly kind, showering people in gifts and lavish trips, assisting them in whatever programs they're in, and he's more than willing to put the effort in and sacrifice things of his own if it means his friends will benefit from it - but it stops there. His kindness is wonderful only to those in his close circle, and most importantly, to Twilight.

though their dynamic sometimes isn't the healthiest, they're all recovering from friendship issues of their own - some done to them, some because of what THEY did to others - and Twilight's the precious sun they seem to rotate around, as being a shut-in only focusing on her studies has given her zero inclination to have any sort of preconceived notions of other people. For friends with a bad past they're trying to work through, its incredibly refreshing, and they would rather die than lose her.

even more additional details:

Sombra collects pretty minerals, and wears a lot of jewelry as a result. He often compares Twilight to precious stones and seems smug about dating her.

Tempest and Stygian are room mates, but they're not dating, sharing a purely platonic relationship. (Stygian is gay and Tempest is a lesbian. they're each other's beards, basically)

Chryssie lives in an apartment Sombra pays the rent to, but only under the agreement that she stop dating people just to raid their houses. It's worked so far, at least according to CCTV footage

once the magic Twilight absorbed disperses into the team, giving them magic, Spike gets dragon attributes along with being able to talk. This means sometimes he eats Sombra's fancy gemstones and there's absolutely nothing he can do about it because if he yells at his gf's dog/little brother he'll get smacked. Sombra is in hell but everyone else loves it

I am trying to save asks for when I have images to go with them, but to make this clear in case it isn’t (and I’m too sick to draw anything at the moment):

Blueblood isn’t an absent father, he doesn’t know he has a daughter out there. Ditzy was too anxious to tell him she was pregnant after what Cinch said about her trying to trap him and ruin his life. So Dinky doesn’t have a unicorn in the house to teach her so after her initial infant magic surge died down, she basically didn’t use magic beyond little accidental impulse sparks.

Ditzy didn’t know she had to have Dinky practicing basic magic skills as a toddler until she started her in school and a teacher brought up that Dinky writes with her mouth not her horn - something that young unicorns don’t do unless they can’t use magic (because writing with magic is a good easy way for young unicorns to practice fine motor skills) and Ditzy is now trying to help Dinky practice magic with exercises her schoolteacher gave as a guide but is at a disadvantage with it. It’s also hard because to get her a special magic teacher costs money she doesn’t have.

Rarity, a local town seamstress of little importance is a family friend and donated spare baby stuff her younger sister grew out of, is a unicorn who could help but is simply too busy to do more than offer advice and Ditzy wouldn’t ask too much of her - and until she properly becomes friends with Sea Swirl and Minuette she doesn’t really know unicorns who can volunteer their time that much.

used to be in the mlp fandom until like 2022 and i still have very few songs on my spotify from that like decade long "phase" of being in the fandom

tHAT BEING SAID- i jus t listened to "unleash the magic" from the equestria girls: thefriendship games movie and i- okay, so, imagine human twilight as jordana, the magic she has as the source dragon energy she drained, the background voices as the wolfmasks (and maybe cinder too), ras as abacus cinch (the principal from twilight's school) who's trying to convince her to use the source dragon energy for his evil plans & spike's "twilight, no!" shout at the end of the song from, idk, sora? or imagine it's not even there. and the magic that canterlot high used in the movie as spinjitzu/elemental powers/whatever the ninja have that the villains don't.

sometimes i like to think i'm stupid for connecting songs from shows or movies with a different franchise but idk i think it fits. to me, jordana seems hesitant to do what ras wants in the different s2 clips we've seen so far which fits to twilight hesitating to unleash the magic she's collected throughout the friendship games

MLP Rewrite AU - Ideas for fleshing out the Shadowbolt 5 from Equestria Girls a bit more?

I like the idea that Sunny Flare is related to Principal Cinch. Like, aunt/niece. Whenever rumors of Cinch's underhanded tactics popped up, she was quick to make any student shut it because how dare they slander her family like that! After seeing first-hand what happened at the Games, she is the first to tear into Cinch about that.

Lemon Zest and Vinyl Scratch have been online friends for years sharing and critiquing each other's music with no idea that the other was in the same town until post-FG when they go to collab and recognize the others' songs.

Sour Sweet knows she has some anger issues and is working on it! She had a bit of a hiccup for a while because Cinch encouraged this trait as it made her more cutthroat in competitions, but she's working on it now! And, despite everything, she very much hates cheating and is pissed at Cinch for encouraging them to do so.

Sugarcoat, true to her name, has a massive sweet tooth. Will always have candy on hand, even though it technically breaks Crystal Prep's 'no eating in class' rules. You can win her favor with hard to find sweets.

Indigo Zap was somewhat oblivious to how far the school rivalry had gone. School rivalries are normal! Trashtalk is always a part of competitions! She assumed it was mostly for show and matched everyone's intensity, taking insults in stride and hurling back just as hard. She's a bit put off realizing how bad things were and what all she participated in.

Thanks for asking this question! I actually been wanting to elaborate more on Cinch and how I can give her complexity/redemption/reformation! And since I don’t really plan to bring up anything about her in @ask-sonata-dusk at least not anytime soon at least, I guess it’s safe to put my thoughts here. I guess I can break this up into segments. Let’s see 🤔…

Cinch’s Background/How did she ended up this way?

She grew up in a family that expected perfection.

She had a toxic parent or parents.

Her parent or parents were often away and due to this, tried to succeed academically to get their attention.

Her family wasn’t a factor at all. She just grew up like this and things just took a bad turn, even if some sense of neglect was there.

What is required from a Cinch redemption?

To be aware that not all of her opinions are superior and to not be so closed-minded.

To accept that her children have the freedom to choose their own paths (if she has them, in which in MY headcanons, she does).

To accept defeat and not be a sore loser (but that doesn’t mean that she still can’t try to win).

To stop looking down on others, using them and manipulating them to get what she wants.

How does she “redeem”?

Family can help (if she does have close loved ones).

Be taken off of her high pedestal.

Go to therapy.

She’s not my favorite character, but my hate for her has died down a little bit, since EQG has been long over and she basically served her purpose in the series. Though I wouldn’t of mind more Cinch if that meant she’d gotten more focus or more stories with her. Heck, I even made headcanons for her.
