It's been years and I'll never forget how Freya Crescent was sidelined from the plot of FF9.

I'll never forget how Freya, from Disc Three and onwards, gets an "alphabet soup" kind of development. Like, if you stare hard enough, you can see words and sentences that somehow make sense, fragments of a larger picture torn apart, pieces of a jigsaw that will forever remain incomplete, crumbles of stone from what once was a full statue... you get it.

I'll never forget how a lot of Burmecia-related content, from unused areas to interesting bits of lore and character stuff, was cut from the game or never came to be. The impact of the Alexandria/Burmecia wars, The King of Burmecia being on bad terms with Freya due to a past event, Sir Fratley's name in the world map,etc.

I'll never forget how Burmecia, unlike other kingdoms, never feels like a proper location. Instead, it's a straight-forward dungeon with little to explore. Well, you could say it's what it is intended o be due the urgency of the situation, war is going on, people are dying, so why bother exploring? Yeah, why bother...

I'll never forget how Cleyra is blown up by an Eidolon but the consequences of something horrifying as a genocide are left as background information. You never get to revisit the crater of what was left of Cleyra, nor do you see the Burmecians rebuilding their homeland.

I'll never forget how Sir Fratley has amnesia but nothing impactful happens afterwards. Dude just says "Hi, I have amnesia, bye!", presumably dies but is alive. Hooray...

I'll never forget how Beatrix never apologizes directly to the people who have been hurt in the conflict, the citizens of Burmecia she begs forgiveness for, and to an extent, the Cleyrans that had no way of defending themselves (other than the magic sandstorm who once surrounded their village);

I'll never forget how Puck is revealed to be the Prince of Burmecia and how that doesn't even matter because he dies, but wait, he is not actually dead! He returns at the very end of the game and that's it. Him being on bad terms with his father is thrown away as something. It's just... something, it does not get developed or addressed and nothing is ever done about it. Heck, we don't even know why he does not like to be in front of the King of Burmecia. Something about him isolating Burmecia from the rest of the world and the militarization of their society, but that's written in the Ultimania. Expanded material, behind-the-scenes stuff, not something you read in the game. At all.

It's not only Freya Crescent who deserved better.

Burmecia deserved better. Cleyra deserved better. Sir Fratley deserved more of what he got in terms of screentime, character and impact on the plot/other character's plots. Puck deserved at least a mention from someone other than Vivi, he's one of the first characters we see interacting with one of the protagonists and then he vanishes. Twice.

How I feel about this character: Every time i see Vivi Ornitier, regardless of the context, i’m always shouting that vine that goes “I WANT TO SEE MY LITTLE BOY!!!! I WANT TO SEE MY LITTLE BOY!!!!” because i LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Vivi. he’s a fantastic character with a fantastic development and i want to give him a big warm hug bc he’s sad ):

All the people I ship romantically with this character: he’s tiny! leave him alone!

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I like his interactions with every members of the party, but i really love the interactions with Zidane and Steiner. Zidane trying to teach the little guy about Bad Things such as Thievery while Steiner is like “UNDYING RESPECT TO YOU MASTER VIVI” to this little dude. Also, Vivi’s friendship with Puck is really cute...

My unpopular opinion about this character: Dunno if i can come up with an “unpopular opinion” on him. I just think he’s super cool. It’s super cool that they took the original black mage design and gave it a creative spin by designing Vivi and the Black Mages to be non-human magic robots. So cool.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: A HUG? GIVE? HIM? A HUG???????? MAN?????

I just finished my replay of FF9... the ending... omg 😭😭 I mean, I still remembered what happened after years of playing it in my teens, and I still cried all the way through!!

Omg I love this game. I always have. The ending is just so beautiful and sweet, like omg 😭❤❤❤ It's just a happy ending, I love it so much! And the way they did it, with the character scenes and the reunion and the song and everything... just beautiful ❤

Omg and Steiner and Beatrix holding up the sword 😆 They're so cute, I love those two haha. I actually forgot that part so it was nice to see a little moment with them 😊❤

But the part with them that I remember, the part that I've always LOVED, is when Garnet is running to Zidane and they're blocking her at first, and then they just open the door and they're like "Go get him, kiddo 😁" AAAAAAAAAAAA OMG I LOVE IT! I still love it!! ❤❤❤

I forgot Garnet throws off her tiara though lol 😂 Like, gesture lol.

But I did forget about Vivi... I remember Puck and Vivi meeting again in Alexandria and Vivi is happy he's alive, but I didn't remember that "Vivi" was in fact Vivi's kid... which means Vivi probably died 😥 Without even knowing Zidane survived... that's the only part that's sad...

So I'm just going to make myself feel better by headcanoning that Vivi is still alive, but he's very slow and weak and couldn't make it to Alexandria, so he sent his kids to see the show and report back, but when Zidane appeared they took Zidane back home to see Vivi ❤ Either that or Vivi, along with the other guys, already knew Zidane was back but they were keeping quiet because he wanted to surprise Garnet. So Vivi saw Zidane before he stopped. At least... that's what I'd like to believe 😭

so there are not a lot of fits you can like. Wear and see in ff9 (the only one i've played i am sorry final fantasy fans) but i can talk about some of my characters fav outfits in like. cutscenes

zidane just. in general. man is such a gender.

2. beatrix in general. extremely @moirinx core and i stand by this.

3. puck another SUPREME gender i love this shitheel so much

4. freya's fit is so niceeeee it should be talked about more and i love the color palette

if ff9 does have some sort of sequel or some spinoff set post-game i hope it focuses on queen garnet rebuilding the relationships between the cities of the mist continents ESPECIALLY cleyra and burmecia. poor garnet has so much on her plate jfc like right after zidanes supposed death shes off overseeing the restoration of alexandria while slowly paying reparations to other nations AND THEN VIVI PASSES AWAY... but fast forward that w zidanes return which could only have been like 1-2 years post iifa tree. like burmecia is still being rebuilt in that time and burmecia especially bc it was not fucked by a dragon or some crazy eidolon no burmecia was completely pummeled by the alexandrian military like garnet will realllyyyyyy need to do so much to rebuild relations with them.

beatrix too especially!!!! rather than have her banished or serve time or whatever for her war crimes she ought to be sent to help rebuild burmecia and then cleyra. omg no wait i dont think cleyra is viable to exist the way it used to now with their magic tree fucking gone(also i wonder if that tree it was in any way linked to the iifa tree? 🤔) imagine... YAS NEW BURMECIA THAT INTEGRATES BURMECIANS AND CLEYRANS!!!!! that will be so good and interesting and encompass the messages behind ff9 so well, both art as an appreciation of life and the respect of military and combat as a means to protect life intergrated in one place and coexist with one another... also maybe i have just been watching too many vids abt chinese media but isnt cleyra and burmecia a bit like? umm i have to search this up daoism and confucianism! or is it taoism. i dunno. ying and yang duality im getting off topic.

anyways zidane!! i feel like zidane would be a great supervisor for these coordinations since he is so patient and good with people of all sorts of backgrounds. queen garnet is very lucky to have so many friends from so many places, her friendship with freya will be so instrumental with all of this especially since freya seems close to burmecia's king, also!! i would imagine eiko would become close to puck as they are both friends of vivis and when u are 6 a friend of a friend is another friend. AND eiko is also technically lindblums princess now and zidane resided in lindblhm for a long while AND is the adopted son of baku who has connections to cid fabool ix who rules lindblum SO lindblums and alexandrias rebuilding relationship will go swimmingly(of course it will take time and many efforts) and with lindblums very advanced technology they can rebuild burmecia to be even even BETTER!!!! AND WITH MORE AND BETTER FUNCTIONING AIRSHIPS.... TRANSPORTATION OF RESOURCES WILL NOT BE SO MUCH OF A PROBLEM!!!!

and omg.... with these airships u know whats even more they can do. just like how a tram system between alexandria and lindblum was built ages ago as a symbol of friendship, they can construct a whole railway system to connect burmecia and lindblum AND EVEN ALEXANDRIA AND NEIGHBORING LOCATIONS OMG. BECAUSE MIST ISNT A PROBLEM ANYMORE OMGGFF

oh my goddd with mist no longer a problem there is so much that can be done... bc really u dont realise it tht much when u play the game, but transportation in the mist continent is so limited, ur only options are literally airships or tunnels. there is like one and only one functioning tram and a failed underground tram system from treno to alexandria.

but now... now without mist, there are so many more places people can like in!!!! settlements no longer have to be restricted to mountainous areas.. WOWWW the world will be so properous in queen garnets ruling period!!!

back to characters... yes eikos and pucks friendship and the various other mentioned friendships will be a great help in making this happen. and cleyrans could introduce some magic-esque technology that could help all of this run without mist similar to how they flourished above the mist(they were powered by hydro and wind power iirc). and the hidden card.... YASSSS BRING OUT THE BLACK MAGE VILLAGE

THE GENOMES!!!! THE BLACK MAGES!!!!! who knows what they would be able to contribute!!! the black mages may be tricky to work with as most of the world hate and fear them and honestly i think they would at just help at their villages creating resources but they really do pack a lot of manpower... that will be a huge thing to coordinate to have people trust these black mages. ahhh that will be a whole thing to educate and explain to everyone about the manufacturing of black mages etc etc. i wonder how much would need to be common knowledge like i doubt everything about terras assimilation with gaia would need to be known by anyone outside of scholars but like there will be things that need to be explained if they want people to be accepting of black mages. and i would imagine garnet zidane and everyone would want everyone to rever vivi as the hero he truly was. tricky tricky tricky

and the genomes!! the genomes are a hugeee puzzle like will they stick together? will they wander apart? will they migrate somewhere and why? how much of terran technology do they know of that they can contribute to all these restoration projects?? i would imagine zidane would work with mikoto to keep track of all the genomes and meet up with each one of them every once and a while. ahhhh someday ill make a whole other post about post-game ponderings about the genomes

anyways. i just love socio-political elements in games lol. during all of this quina will be the main coordinator making sure EVERYONEEEEE is fed. everyone. ever
