Fra-GEE-Lay...It must be Italian!
On this very special holiday episode of Deep Thoughts, @tguydecker and I take a deeper look at the 1983 classic A Christmas Story.
We discuss what is relatable in the sweet, funny tale of 9-year-old Ralphie’s quest for the coveted Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot range model air rifle, but also talk about how casual racism, outdated gender dynamics, and a Yule-centric storyline casts a pall on the otherwise delightful nostalgia.
Throw on your earbuds and take a listen–We TRIPLE DOG DARE you!

No wonder this is an all-time Christmas favorite. It’s funny. It’s for both kids and adults. It’s simple with a heartwarming end.
A Christmas Story is a 1983 Christmas comedy film directed by Bob Clark and based on Jean Shepherd's semi-fictional anecdotes in his 1966 book In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash, with some elements from his 1971 book Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories And Other Disasters. It stars Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, and Peter Billingsley

"Scut Farkus - what a rotten name." 🐺
Fun fact about me: I honestly love Christmas and all the movies that come with it. A christmas story is such a great classic, and I especially like the scenes with scut (because he’s a horrible little asshole, why wouldn’t I). So when my sister showed me the trailer for the new movie, in which an older scut makes an appearance, naturally I flipped my shit!!! So I drew him. And I want to draw him more. But you know, art block and everything. I don’t have a lot of drawings that I like and actually want to share.
I’m actually pretty excited for the new movie and I want to draw the older version of him, but he has one single millisecond shot in the trailer, and he’s wearing the SAME EXACT clothes and STILL HAS BRACES??? It’s honestly hilarious, but part of me is wondering if it’s actually a moment where ralph is imagining scut as his old self. I honestly don’t know but I’m weirdly excited to see what the writers have done with these characters as adults.
Anyway, don’t be surprised if you see more christmas movie fanart from me. Potentially more christmas story stuff (let me know if you wanna see more scut??) but also stuff from other movies that literally no one asked for! :D and DON't get on my back about being all jolly jingly in november. What am I supposed to do? Get into the thanksgiving spirit??? No

"What do you want for Christmas, little boy?"
"My mind had gone blank. Frantically, I tried to remember what it was I wanted. I was blowing it, blowing it."
"Come on, kid."
"How about a nice football?"
"Football? Football? What's a football? With unconscious will my voice squeaked out football."
*Ralphie nods*
"Okay, get him out of here."
" A football? Oh no, what was I doing? Wake up, Stupid! Wake up!"
*Ralphie is shoved down the slide, but he stops himself and climbs back up*
"No, no! I want an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!"
"You'll shoot your eye out, kid."
*Ralphie gasps*
"Merry Christmas. Ho, ho, ho!"
*Santa pushes Ralphie down the slide with his boot*
"No-o-o-o-o-o-o!"
Happy 40th Anniversary to A Christmas Story
