(So I still have ideas as to Wukong rapping on the Journey West)

OMGs yes! (I do too. I have a lot of thoughts)

But like Wukong not liking the other pilgrims much at first so he doesn't rap around them because he's like this is my thing but then during one particularly tough battle Wukong starts rapping to give himself motivation and everyone is like "WTF is happening" but Tripitaka knows and he's like "don't worry it's just brother Sun" but the other pilgrims are still like "huh?"

Then one night around the campfire Tripitaka asks the others if they have any songs they'd like to share and so the others share what they have. It eventually circles around to Wukong who's still a little "eh" with them (still) but with some goading (plus Wukong wanting to one up Zhu Bajie) Wukong is convinced to show them this "rapping" he's come up with. Wukong relaxes and starts by listening to the nature around them and his own heartbeat whispering the made up lyrics to himself. Ao Lie, who sitting closest to him starts tapping his feet adding more of a beat, and then Wukong slowly gets louder and faster and Sha Wujing, Ao Lie, and Zhu Bajie absolutely LOVE it. Like they're cheering on Wukong and trying their best to spit verses of their own and over all just having a fucking ball while Tripitaka is over in the corner like "what did I start".

Rapping later becomes the pilgrims go to while they're traveling, like instead of singing "99 bottles of beer on the wall" their rapping to the sound of Ao Lie's hooves on the ground. It's how nearby villages knew they were coming, all they had to do is stick an ear to the wind and listen for the sounds.

It later becomes their battle cry. Scaring off half the demons that try to fight them.

And eventually they wear down Tripitaka into spitting some verses of his own. They all cheer so loudly when this happens they scare a group of mountain spirits.

(angst city) And then the other pilgrims die (however that happened) and Wukong just stops. Rapping started out as a 'him' thing but it slowly became a "them" thing. it was one of the pillars of their friendship and losing the pilgrims meant he lost the motivation to rap. It died along with them.

And then one day Wukong turns on the radio and what does he hear? A rap song. And the voice of the guy rapping sounds like one of the pilgrims and Wukong just loses it. He curls up in a ball and doesn't talk to any of the other monkeys for at least a day.

- He is actually really tone deaf so he kinda mumble raps (Although he can hit notes)

hmm, rapping Wukong makes brain go brr

More rapping Wukong thoughts.

@i-am-a-fan said that "the man probably learned how to rap as a stim while he was under the mountain alone" and I agree. Wukong was under that mountain for 500 years he had to find some way to keep himself entertained/sane. So the rapping probably started as Wukong seeing just how fast he could talk to himself but then he started seeing just how fast he sing songs he had learned before being trapped and he really like the way the fast songs sounded. He would've eventually ran out of songs and so he tried to listen for near by people singing so he could steal their songs but all he heard were the sounds of nature. Not exactly any songs to be heard there so he turned inwards and listened to his heart beat. And so he combined his heartbeat, his new fast singing, and couple of gibberish sounds and thus the first rap song was created.

Anyways Wukong liked it and perfected this new way of singing.

Just a random ask, what are some weird JTTW adaptations you’ve seen or heard about?

I can’t even begin to call them all but… if you bear with me, I shall try.

Here are a few games that I always found funny additions!

Starting off strong we have Journey to the West: Undersea Adventure (2021)! I have never seen it but LOOK AT IT.... THEY FISH

Six-eared Monkey (2021) where Six Ears goes back in time, accidentally adopts Wukong not knowing he is his future enemy and gives his life to save Child-Wukong despite knowing who he grows up to be.

Wukong's Christmas Adventure (2019) is like... saving Ruphdolh or something and Wukong is going through a mid-life crisis and also kinda depressed but CHRISTMAS. Also the Erlang and Nezha models in this movies are TERRIFYING... and also they have Wukong rap so take a look.

Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (2013) is weird but like in a GREAT way like... I love the monster designs they give Wukong, Bajie, and Wujing, it is such a different vibe then any other movie I have seen and Honestly LOVE It for that. Really sells just how HUMAN Sanzang is dealing with POWERFUL YAO that could kill him in a second.

Bling (2016) is strong that it didn't hAVE to be Xiyouji coded characters like the Monkey, Pig, and Frog are robot storage performers, wannabe heroes and they follow their creator who is trying to propose to his girlfriend but there really is not journey or ANY need to have the robot being Wukong, Bajie, and Wujing.

Spark: A Space Tail (2016) is also BARELY a Xiyouji film but like it does have a monkey with a staff and turns out he is the son of a king and a queen of monkey planet. Really more like Lion King with the evil uncle trying to take over but with space monkeys.... and also Bajie is there.

Mo mo King (2011) is something I'm not completely sure what's it about but just that it is like a whole monkey island that Wukong-like protag works at... and also Bajie is there.

Devil's Chip (2002) again NO idea what it is really about but there is space and time travel and for some ungodly reason no wukong from what I have seen but Sanzang and Bajie company the space/time travler

Flying Monkid (1996) I have no idea why this was ever MADE like there is barely a connection to Wukong and every other demon is new or some kind of version that is barely recognizable, not to mention the animation is barely any better than Pixal art.

Flying Superboard (1990) I always just found this one strange from the animation to the art style to the design choices. Like making Wukong some kind of skateboard, nunchuck, mouse-looking creature and giving Bajie a machine gun is.... something. I have no idea what they did to Wujing, made him like a bat, goblin thing.

Midnight Goku (1989) is like a sci-fi detective story where the protag has like computer eyes that can see through people and a bo-staff and honestly, I haven't seen but just the STRETCH they use to make this Wukong-related is so insane like would have never thought of it.

Little Wukong (1987) honestly not SURE what this story is even about but like... it is nearly lost media, this is so obscure and out of the way I have a feeling it was probs a children's education show or something but idk.

The Legend of Red Boy (1989) is something that looks like candy land spat out and while I have not seen it I am so sure that it is filled with nonsensical elements I cannot begin to describe.

King Kong's Adventures in the Heavenly Palace (1959) is... more of a crossover than anything else. Just imagine a movie where instead of Wukong destroys heaven... it is Kind Kong. Legit THE king Kong from the OTHER MOVIES YES.

Pink Journey to the West (2015) is honestly not that strong I would say besides that it is just Journey to the West but they are all girls... haven't seen it but who knows maybe it is good!

Overwatch with Xiyouji skins just think it is adorable honestly. Love the Winston as Wukong

And while this isn't EVERY weird (there is a lot) one these are that I thought were at least interesting enough. Like a lot of Xiyouji movies have strange plotpoint but honestly, they are more boring and confusing than anything memorable. At least these were the ones I always thought were fun!

Journey to the West Chapter 5

I think Sun Wukong might have made a few people mad this chapter of Journey to the West with @journeythroughjourneytothewest

So this chapter, Sun Wukong managed to gain another three levels to his immortality stat with the good old, tried and true method of stealing.

First up, we got the Peaches of Immortality, which the Jade Emperor had put him in charge of in order to give him something to do so he wouldn't get bored. And Sun Wukong took to sending the staff away from the garden so he could nap and eat the peaches unimpeded. I also get to add a slightly new crime to his rap list for this one since this is his place of employment: Employee Theft. We also get a case of False Imprisonment, when Sun Wukong immobilizes the Seven Immortal Maidens who come to collect peaches for the peach festival.

Next up, for his second gained level of immortality we got the Heavenly Wine. Where Sun Wukong gains yet another new crime for his rap sheet, Impersonating a Government Official, when he runs into the Great Immortal Naked Feet, and sends him to the Hall of Perfect Light for a 'rehearsal' so Sun Wukong can take his place. So Sun Wukong makes his way to where the Banquet is being held and his attention is grabbed by the smell of wine. In order to try some, Sun Wukong uses magic to put the wine carriers to sleep.

For his third level of immortality, Sun Wukong realizes that he'll probably get in trouble for stealing the Heavenly Wine and tries to go home, but instead drunkenly wanders into Laozi's lab. Where he spots some pills of immortality. Which he of course immediately eats- which while making him now five times immortal also sobers him up.

Now that he's sobered up, he decides to head home to Flower Fruit Mountain to avoid the consequences. The monsters of Flower Fruit Mountain are ecstatic to see him again, especially since he's been gone for over a century now since he spent a half year in heaven this time. He gladly tells them everything that happen, but finds that he no longer has a taste for regular food after having grown accustomed to divine food and wine. So Sun Wukong sneaks his way back into heaven to steal some more wine to share with everyone. Making some of his monkey's doubly immortal at this point.

Meanwhile, word has gotten back to the Jade Emperor about Sun Wukong's exploits so he sends what seems to be the entire heavenly army out to arrest him. And so the battle between Heaven's army and Sun Wukong and his demon army begins! Sun Wukong manages to personally beat the Nine Luminaries and then sends out his army to help him battle the Four Great Devarajas and Twenty Eight Constellations. Most of his army is captured, his four commanders and monkey troop all manage to escape. Meanwhile Sun Wukong manages to beat back The Four Great Devarajas, Li the Pagoda Bearer, and prince Nezha with some duplicates. Current Sun Wukong Stats: Names/Titles: Monkey, The Stone Monkey, The Handsome Monkey King, Sun Wukong (Monkey awakened to the void), and The Great Sage Equal To Heaven. Immortality: 5 Weapon: The Compliant Golden Hooped Rod Abilities: 72 Transformations, Cloud-Somersault, Ability to transform his individual hairs, super strength, Ability to Summon Wind, Water restriction charm, and the ability to change into a huge war form, ability to duplicate his staff, ability to immobilize others, and the ability to put others to sleep. Demon Kill Count: 1+ Unknown Number of Minions God's Defeated: 17 Crime List: Robbery, Murder, Mass Murder, Arson, Theft, Coercion, Threatening a Government Official, Resisting Arrest, Assault, Forgery, Employee Theft, False Imprisonment, and Impersonating a Government Official. Cry Count: 2
