My Rating System Explained
General Rating
4.5-5: Fabulous, loved it, will reread, we were DOING SHIT with this one. A top recommendation.
4-4.5: Very good to great, super enjoyable, definitely recommend to virtually anyone.
3.5-4: Solid stylistically, but I can't say that it stood out for me. It may be a taste thing; there may be genuine flaws that took it down from an instant rec. I might recommend it to a very specific audience.
3-3.5: This was not for me, but it may be for someone else.
2.5-3: Flawed and difficult for me to enjoy, even if there were bright moments. Anything under a 3 is a book I really wouldn't recommend to anyone. This could also be a book wherein it was all going so well... and then we got derailed with a horrible creative decision or problematic content.
2-2.5: I was either so incredibly bored that this was hard for me to finish, or it was just a really displeasing read.
Anything under a 2: [Robert De Niro Voice] we're in a terrible situation
Heat Index
8-10: We're in the erotic romance range, with 3+ explicit sex scenes (defined as: a scene in which one partner made the other partner orgasm), often on the kinkier side. This is accompanied by more general sexual tension and interplay beyond the sex scenes.
6-7: At least 3 explicit sex scenes, but they could be on the less descriptive side (see: Lorraine Heath). This is accompanied by sexual tension and heat beyond the sex.
4-5: At least 1 sex scene, but the explicitness is debatable. Borderline closed door.
2-4: Closed door.
Under 2: 'Tis sexless.

WTF Why is the FNAF movie a 15 in the UK?
Tumblr media
How overly offended is our rating system? This is a kids horror franchise! It's a pg-13 in US. Why is it less in America?

This scene from the 1992 videogame Night Trap was brought up in a senate hearing as supposedly promoting violence against women. This senate hearing later led to the creation of the ESRB. Night Trap was among the first video games to receive an 'M' rating. Do you think it really deserved it?

I don't know a lot of these Sherlocks but it was interesting anyhow. :D
My favorite is the second to last one but you'll have to look at it to find out.

Rating System
10/10 - I will re watch this, I will buy merch for it, and It's probably in my top 30.
9/10 - I will either happily rewatch this, or I will want to buy merch for it because I like the characters.
8/10 This was an awesome seasonal anime, but the chance I will re-watch this is low. I might go read the manga though!
7/10 - Hey, I watched it! and probably finished it! A potato chip of a show that's worth having on as background.
6/10 - I probably dropped this part way through the season for one reason or another.
5/10 or below - I'm probably not even going to bother writing anything unless it was a show I was excited for that was horribly adapted or bombed spectacularly.

Since I've seen examples both on here and AO3 lately with alarming frequency, I figured a PSA was needed.
If you talk about sex in your fic, it's not rated G.
The rating system exists for a reason. There's 4 levels for a reason. You definitely have options between G and E. G is like a kids movie. Yes, kids movies will sometimes include wink wink nudge nudge jokes for parents, but there's a big difference between that and "Yeah, [name] refuses to go over there without calling first ever since he walked in on them fucking" or outright describing sex (yes, I have seen this in a fic that was rated G). Use common sense in your choices.

MY BOOK RATING ALGORITHM
📚⭐️The 5-star system is too vague for me, so I made my own rating system⭐️📚
For me, the point of giving book ratings is to determine A) how much the person reading enjoyed the book and B) whether the person reading the review would enjoy that same book. Having such a small scale that leaves the qualities of a 3⭐️ vs a 5⭐️ read up to the discression of the reader doesn’t really enable me to judge whether or not I will like the book because I can’t guarantee that my standards are the same as those used to give the rating.
So… I made my own rating system, out of 5 categories and 100, with 10 potential bonus points. Please be aware!!! I made this system to cater to how I read books and what I am taking notice of when reading, so this will not be a universal system. It is simply my system.
(P.S. If this system idea appeals to you, I am more than happy to help you structure your own system to cater to your reading standards, if you’d like that. Just leave a comment or send a message 💜)
ALL THAT BEING SAID, here is my book system:
Categories:
Main Character-20pts
-Personality/Value to Plot: 10pts
-Development/Arc: 7pts
-Relationships: 3pts
Plot-40pts
-Fore-Shadowing/Predictability: 10pts

request guidelines/rating system
Tumblr media
I'm pretty much down for anything in terms of requests, but I do have some rules about what I will/won't write:
no: drugs, addiction to drugs/alcoholism, yes: fluff, mentions of kissing or domesticity no: graphic depictions of violence such as beheading or wood chipper feet first yes: angst, hurt/comfort, smut, au's, other common fanfic tropes yes(although warily, as I have written it before): mentions of/describing suicide, sexual assault, or underage sex no: sexual activity including a minor and an adult yes: m/m, f/m, f/f, m/reader, f/reader no: threesomes, or relationships containing more than two people no: certain fetishes, such as feet, incest, incects, somnophilia, necrophilia and cross-dressing (plus others - I'm not writing them all down)
(i will add more as they come to me)
|-<3-|
my rating system is very simple: I use the same one as ao3, as it is where I usually post my stories! so, to recap:
general audiences: suitable for everyone
teen and up: not suitable for readers less than 13
mature: includes adult themes, although not as graphic as explicit content
explicit: adult themes, not suitable for underage audiences

my rating system:
albums
I only give 10/10s to albums/EPs with no skips
9/10 means I liked a majority >75% of the album, as well as the general concept (liked as in, I would replay the shit out of the tracks, and I like them individually). Bonus points (9.5/10) if hearing one makes me want to listen to another
8/10s and 7/10s mean that I liked around 50% of the album, the differences lie in how much I like the tracks by themselves
6/10s: I like <50% of the album (or I might only have 2-3 tracks I actually like), so I’d prefer to skip listening to the album as a whole, and really only stream the tracks I like
-> any album that is 7/10 and above is considered good to me!
tracks
10/10: instant/almost instant obsession, immediate add to playlists (genre, favs, monthly), i don’t get tired of listening to it and still listen again after some time! basically i really love it
9/10: immediate add to playlists (genre, monthly) to listen again in that month, might forget about it if not reminded, but definitely memorable! usually my favourite track in a 7/10 album
most of my song ratings are based on Vibes, without concrete checkpoints (i.e. I compare how much I like something of a certain rating to the track in question), so they are subject to changes in the future
