Okay, so, I'm not even sure how earnest I am about this, but .. we all know how, usually, movies and tv-shows and such are rated for their potential sexual &/ violent content, right? That there exist these phrases like "approved for all audiences" or "viewer discretion advised" ..
and the one thing where I always thought they should post trigger warnings but never did were nature&/animal documentaries, because of my arachnophobia .. like I've got zero problems with snakes or crocodiles or sharks, but show me a spider and I'd get a jump scare so bad that I'd accidentally throw snacks across the room or choke on&/spit out my drink
please note: this is not an invite for y'all to post pictures of spiders in the comments and give me a minor heart attack
anyway, I just thought, maybe there should exist a similar rating system for content with anthropomorphic animals, like, inform viewers above 16/14/12 whatev, that there'll be anthro characters, especially if they've got attractive personalities, because it is seriously ridiculous how attracted I am to some fictional (animated) animals and shifters and I'd like some warning next time, please and thank you, it's already enough with humanoid aliens and androids

So I just found out that 'Red, White & Royal Blue' is rated R in the US? In Germany it is FSK12, which is I think equivalent to a PG-13.
I just wonder why? Is this emotional and tender sex scene between two people in general too much for the USA? Or is it because it takes place between two men?

Destroying yourself in the Infinity Pool
2023 sci-fi/thriller
Tumblr media
Director Brandon Cronenbreg most definitely is following in his father's footsteps. In that disturbing mind bending story telling with deep underling social commentary way. Although in no way is he just like his father, Brandon is for sure, a beast of his own.
Tumblr media
For context I will begin to dive into his most recent movie infinity pool. Which if you haven't seen it was an excellent film and I highly recommend watching it. I will go into some spoilers here to discuss overarching and underling themes I feel are important in this movie. So again if you haven't seen this movie I highly advise you go see it and come back to this article.
Tumblr media
Plot: Guided by a seductive and mysterious woman (Mia Goth), a couple on vacation (Alexander Skarsgard, Cleopatra Coleman) venture outside the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism and untold horror. A tragic accident of hitting a local with their car, soon leaves them facing a zero tolerance policy for crime: either you'll be executed, or, if you're rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die instead.
At first James (Alexander Skarsgard) is pretty shocked and disturbed by the reality of being cloned and watching himself die. Then he's accepted into this club in which he starts to forget his anxiety over the experience of what had happened. Being convinced this is a get out of jail card, a path way to be invincible almost. James slowly begins getting high on this power, not realizing that those he's surrounded by what are not the best people. Again and again he watched himself die and loses any empathy that had been there before. Finally Gabi (Mia Goth) sets him up thinking he's attacking someone else with a hood on their head. When she reveals he was about to kill his own clone and he begins to panic realizing it's not the same. Trying to leave the group stops him forcing him to fight his clone with a final blow and he kills his own clone.
Tumblr media
I feel that this is commentary on joining the IN-GROUPS. More specifically wealthy or rich class, although it could apply to any popular In-group. I feel like he's saying that when you join these groups a little piece of you dies. The further in you become the more you die and to become the full fledged member you have to kill off that last remaining piece that is you. We get peer pressured into this through society. By the groups themselves wanting us to join. By the systems giving us the options to do that or face consequences that may be damaging or harmful. Society always pushes us to destroy ourselves to be part of the upper class, the popular groups. Even if that means shooting out a bus window and stopping the car in front of the bus screaming come out James!

@benkabaryaberrybom made a comment on my Casanova shitpost asking me to review it, I will try my best because I am terrible at persuasion, reviewing, writing and all that jazz, so here we go, I suppose.
(P.s - I'm super sorry for the EXTREMELY late post, not gonna lie I had been putting it off because school and blah blah blah 😭)
First of all, an actual rating.
7/10
3.5 (How does math work again?) Stars out of 5
It was really good, if I'm being honest! The main thing that made me lower the score was the actual sex* (Which I would like to stress, it isn't the ONLY thing this movie (show) is about!!!) and shit, but I really CANNOT judge, seeing as that's what the movie (Which is actually a show, but we watched it all together on YouTube) sort of surrounds, and that's just my preference.
The main thing I took away from this movie (show) is don't be a dick with a good sense of humour, it will lead you to horrible places. (This a joke, obviously.)
But, other than that, I would recommend watching it if you like love, David Tennant, and Nina Sosanya and all sorts of other actors that really pull the movie together!
I feel like this post is very negative, now that I'm reading back on it, but please take my words with a grain of salt, because it was just personally not my fav. If you're interested in watching it but are hesitant to just because one person said they didn't like it as much as they would've liked to, watch it anyway!! Because you shouldn't let one person on the internet stop you from being curious, just because they have an opinion.
Again, I'm super fucking sorry for such a late post, and I really hope that if you ended up watching this before I posted it you enjoyed it!
(Other people, feel free to reblog this with your rating if you've watched DT's Casanova!!😊)
*I would also like to stress that it's mostly just heavily implied, I can't quite recall if they do actually show any sex scenes, seeing as I watched it at least a couple weeks ago now, so fair warning for that if you're uncomfortable with it.

Trying to watch new (to me) horror movies for the Halloween season, so I want to keep track of what I've seen and what I rate them.
Becky (6/10 for good acting and killing neo-nazis, wish I had read the warnings on does the dog die dot com though.)
Annabelle (3/10 for the white bread plain main characters and for that shitty ending.)
Annabelle: Creation (5/10 for the callback to the original film and interesting characters, but I'm not sure what makes Annabelle doll the villain considering the demon rarely even uses her to torment its victims.)
Halloween (1978) (4/10 so boring oh my god. Maybe it’s cuz I am harder on classics but damn. Aside from the dog I was on Michael's side for most of the movie? He really said "fuck neglectful babysitters" and I resonate with that.)
Halloween (2018) (8/10 much better than the original is that blasphemous jkjk i don't care. I actually cared about the characters!! Won't be watching the rest of the franchise though.)

Learning about the MPAA's moving rating system and apparently there's just like 8 people who review each movie. I thought there would be some process of like writing down a list of potentially offensive content but it's like literally just vibes. Fewer than a dozen people watch the film, think about the vibes, and that rating dictates the accessibility for millions of people. What if we gave a dozen other people that power? Like imagine sitting around in a circle watching a movie with your tumblr mutuals and your opinions dictated whether theaters would show it.
