"Are you sure he misses me?" Those pretty acrylics you got done before leaving the states tapped your phone as it was pressed up against your ear.
"How many times are you gonna ask? He's your boyfriend, so you of all people should know he misses you. Badly. It's always "I wish she were here", or "(x) more months until she's home." He's always talking about you." Motoya scolds over the phone, you're standing by the baggage claim waiting for your suitcase to appear on the conveyor belt.
"Don't give me that attitude, you're his cousin, which was why I was asking." You push a braid behind your ear, wearing a protective style is important especially for traveling. You don't have the time to put up with your hair.
"Sorry, sorry. Anyway, are you stopping by Osaka first or what?" His voice is filled with pure curiosity. A groan escapes your throat. How long does it take for one suitcase to come out? You should have checked it in as a carry-on.
"Well I'm closer to Tokyo so I wanna head there first. I'm gonna surprise Kiyo." The jet lag is finally starting to hit you, it's about 11:30ish pm in Tokyo while back home it's 10:30ish am.
"Alright, make sure to come visit me and Suna though, actually how long did you say you were staying? We play the jackals next week. Maybe we can all get together!" He seems very excited, it's evident in his voice.
"I'll be here for the next month and a half. I'm so fucking tired." He chuckles, "it might take a night or two, you've been in the states so long."
"Yeah, I was gonna get a rental but I might just uber to Kiyo's apartment." Motoya hears you yawn.
"E-excuse me, are you tourist?" A woman asks you in broken english.
"It's better if you rest then see Kiyoomi tomorr-"
"I'll call you back, Toya." He tries to say something but you're already pressing the red decline button.
"No, I'm just here visiting family. I'm studying abroad in the states." You answer back in english. The lady stares at you as if she's trying to understand what you just said.
You repeat your sentence in japanese and she replies meekly, "I'm sorry, I just assumed you were american because of your skin. I just wanted to say it's super pretty." She smiles at you shyly.
"Well you wouldn't be too far off, I'm half american. Also thank you, you're so sweet." She nods and walks off to get her suitcase.
"Finally! My suitcase." A few people stare at you, when they see you jump up in triumph, they musn’t understand your impacience.
------
"Where to?"  The cab driver asks. He seems pretty fed up and his cab smells of cigarettes.
"Let me pull up the address really quickly, I'm sorry." He sighs impatiently while you hurry to type in your password to find Kiyoomi's address in the messages shared between you two.
"Okay, it's xxxxxxxxx." The man nods. The slow hum of the cab let’s you know that he’s began driving and your eyes close. Secretly you hope to get a little rest, not that it would help much. The man hits the gas and you jerk forward, luckily your seat belt keeps you from hitting the passenger seat's head restraint.
"Sorry 'bout that." There’s a tinge of sarcasm laced within his voice and it holds no real empathy. Instinctively your eyes roll. Why do people have to make other people’s day bad just because their day was bad? He's definitely not getting a good review from you.
The drive was about thirty minutes with traffic being slow at such late hours. The street lights of Tokyo make it hard to sleep, it’s so unnaturally bright.
Where you live now is nothing compared to the brightly lit streets of Tokyo. Sleep is no longer an option, those pretty eyes of yours trail certain restaurants and shops the cab drives by.
The cab driver hit the brake indicating that you’ve arrived at your destination. Within seconds he turns around to look you in your eyes, “cash or card?”
You don’t have much yen on you. Making a stop by an atm is your top priority for tomorrow. “Card, what’s my total?”
He scratches his head. He best not make up a price on the spot, that’s super annoying. The total isn’t too bad, luckily. He definitely charged you more than he deserved though, yes it was timely but customer service was awful, if you could even call that customer service.
Excitement was hot in your stomach as you stepped out of the yellow cab. The tokyo air felt so nice against your skin, it feels amazing to be back, even if only for a little while. Once you’ve collected your bags it was time to walk into the apartment building.
The receptionist looks up to meet your eyes when he notices you. "Are you a new resident or are you visiting?" His voice is perfectly generated, you don’t quite remember him from last time, but he must have been working here awhile to nail that voice.
"I'm visiting." You bite your glossed lip, the flavor of peach invades your mouth. It’s Kiyoomi’s favorite. Mainly because the first time he bought it for you, it was a last minute first date gift. Since then it’s stuck with both of you, he enjoys the way it tastes on his lips after you kiss him.
"Alrighty, do you know which apartment you're visiting? I'll ring to let them know you're here. It is quite late after all." He says, glancing back at his computer.
The plan is to surprise Kiyoomi.. you set your bag down on top of your suitcase.
"Do you mind if I just go up? It's been a few months, and I want to surprise my boyfriend." The man stops for a second, "In that case go ahead, but let me tell you, many people come to surprise boyfriends or girlfriends and they end up breaking up because said s/o wasn't expecting them and was seeing their side piece."
You giggle, it's wrong to laugh at such a story but you know your Kiyoomi. He misses you so much, everyday when you facetime he whines about wanting to see you.
"I thought that was only in very cringey romance movies but thanks for the heads up." He nods and sends you on your way. You make a mental note to get a new suitcase. Yours is ratty and the wheel is broken which means you must drag it everywhere. That is not convenient, especially when traveling a lot.
His apartment is on the fifth floor of the building. "Where's the key he gave me?" A groan escapes your lips. You really hope that excitement didn't override your rationality and that this key is somewhere in your purse.
Frantically searching, it turns up under a bunch of other crap you don’t need. Without Kiyoomi to lecture about your messy purse it’s become a nightmare inside of it.  "Oh thank God, I can't ruin this."
Ding. It's finally time, excitement creeps up in your body. It's been about seven months since you've seen Kiyoomi in person. He came to the states for christmas to see you.
With him being a pro athlete and you being a college student, it's hard to find time in your schedules to spend time with one another. Long distance relationships aren't the easiest and you missed him terribly. The thought of seeing him kept you busy while flying. Now.. now you're right in front of his door.
With patience you slide the key into the lock and twist it the right way in order to open the door.
You hear footsteps, Kiyoomi's lamp is on in his room. What's he still doing up? Doesn't he have practice later?
"Motoya, I fucking told you I'm not watching a movie with you when I have practice later-" Your boyfriend stops at the genkan when he sees you.
All the anger in his face disappears and his face smooths out. Before you can even process what's happening, those long arms of your Kiyoomi are around you. You practically melt in his touch, becoming one with him.
“What are you doing here, baby? I- when did you land?” He asks all at once, his sweet breath right in your ear. He smells like vanilla and cinnamon, “God I missed the way you smell.” Is all you can say at the moment.
“I just landed like an hour ago, came to see my man before I go visit anyone else.” That chuckle of his warms your heart. He’s going to be the death of you, for sure.
“I was just about to call you, it’s like 12pm in the states right?” He asks.
“Something like that. I love you so much.” It’s so random but true, you do love him.
“I love you too, so so fucking much. I can’t tell you how desperate I was getting to see you.” He sighs. He leans back slightly to take in your face, you do the same. He’s so handsome and beautiful at the same time.
You pull him by his collar to kiss those lips you love so much. Honestly you expected this kiss to be desperate but it was passionate and slow. He placed his hands on your face, they’re warm and inviting. You break the kiss and he smiles at you.
It reminds you of how much a grouch your boyfriend was when you had first met him. He was always frowning or pouting. He keeps telling you he doesn’t pout but you know what you saw. His hands don’t leave your face and hell if you mind.
“I’m finally home.” You say with a small content sigh. It’s only for a month that you’ll be home, but soon enough you’ll graduate and get to live with him permanently.
“Yes, my baby is finally home.”

Far From Home
Summary: Kagome is never too far from trouble, it seems. After moving to America to start over, she ends up in Hawkins just as strange things start to happen. Fandom: Inuyasha x Stranger Things (Ch 4) Crossover
Also available on FF.Net and AO3
Chapter 01
Hawkins High School, despite all the events that happened not a year before, was as normal as any other school. There were the typical popular kids, the bookworms, the nerds, the athletes, the extroverts, and the introverts. And there was Kagome Higurashi.
Kagome Higurashi moved from Tokyo to Hawkins right before the start of the school year. A long list of fake diseases and a missed year - congratulations to her grandpa and her adventures fighting an evil half-youkai 500 years in the past - turned into a shadow on her history. Because of that, finding a decent high school was hard; and graduating from it was even worse. The once somewhat popular student became an outcast, haunted by her ghosts of the past and present.
Mama Higurashi watched her once bright child becoming a pariah, apart from everything and everyone. It hurt more than watching her face the unknown. Back then, Kagome had dreams of love and the support of powerful friends. Now, she had nothing but a loving family that couldn't completely understand what she went through. Once Kagome turned 18, Mama Higurashi had made up her mind and came with an unexpected offer.
“Why don’t you start anew somewhere else? Far from everything and everyone you know.”
Kagome was quick to jump. The idea had been living on her mind for some time, but she never gave it too much attention. It wasn't fair for her family if she just left. But Mama gave her arguments and after a night of hugs and tears, they designed a plan.
Kagome dropped out the school and spent the following months getting a better hang of English and working around getting her papers. She called several rental agencies in different areas until she found an affordable place in a small city called Hawkins.
There wasn’t much about Hawkins available in Japanese newspapers or books. The most recent piece of information was the closing of a national lab due to a chemical spill that caused the death of a teenager - which Kagome assumed was the reason for the below-average renting and living costs. After some calls, she landed a place and enrolled in the local school for her senior year.
Upon arriving, she found out that a sequence of tragedies resulted in dozens of deaths in a short period - the latest happening just a month before. The gruesome stories would have made her mother rethink funding her stay there, therefore Kagome never mentioned it when phoning home.
For most, the morbidity surrounding the city's recent history would be enough of a reason to stay away from Hawkins but Kagome had seen entire villages being slaughtered, with the corpses used as puppets and meat shields. She beheaded countless demons, bathed on their insides - although not willingly, had been on the brink of death, and faced things that tormented her dreams for years to come.
Kagome Higurashi was a survivor. She promised her family and lost friends to live her best life, and she would.
Being somewhat older than most, a foreigner, and having joined the school in the senior year made it a few times harder to make friends. She found no use in joining any extracurricular activities when she would be leaving in less than a year. While not a complete castoff, Kagome spent most of her time alone, but she didn’t resent that. After everything, it was only a temporary nuisance.
Kagome stood by her locker, picking up what she would need for the day. After Jason’s speech earlier, which soured the mood of half of the students present while the other half got excited by his words, she sneaked out before anyone asked about her apathy. It wasn’t that she was indifferent to the tragedy, she just didn’t want to drown in the overwhelming feelings that always followed whenever these events were mentioned.
Her senses had been all over the place in the past few days, especially towards certain students. Many times Kagome prevented herself from approaching them. How could she ask if something was wrong when she barely knew their names? Chrissy was a cheerleader, dating the basketball captain, and never spared her a single glance; Patrick, she only knew the name because it was stamped on his uniform; the red-haired girl was in freshman year and always walked with a headphone on, barely acknowledging when someone approached her.
Kagome closed her eyes and sighed. If there was one thing she learned the hard way was that most people don't want others asking about their problems, much less when they were strangers. If an opportunity came, she would surely act on it; if not, Kagome would just accept and move on.
Distracted by her thoughts, the Japanese student gasped when two younger students appeared by her side.
“Hi! ” The first boy asked. He had a cute baby face, with round cheeks and curly brown hair. On his side was a tall slender boy, with dark hair and pale skin.
“Hi?” She raised an eyebrow. It wasn't common for freshmen to approach her - or anyone at all.
“I’m Mike. This is Dustin.” The other boy said. “We are looking for a sub to join our game tonight. Do you like role-playing?”
“What’s role-playing?” The term didn't ring any bells.
“It’s like a stage play. You create a character and must act according to it. You attack, cast spells, fight monsters-”
“With a dice!” Interjected Mike.
“Do you throw a dice at each other?”
“No! We roll the dice and our lives will depend on the result!”
“You are scaring her, Dustin.”
Kagome frowned. “Sounds… interesting, but-”
“You should totally join us today in the old theater club room after classes.”
“-I can’t compromise today.” The boys’ spirits deflated. “Maybe next time.”
Kagome’s heart ached for them, especially Dustin. Their disappointment was a punch in her chest. They reminded her so much of her baby brother Souta she wanted to hug them and pet their heads, telling them everything was alright.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I just don’t wanna let you down in case I can’t make it. You really should find someone else.”
Dustin rolled his eyes and huffed. “As if we haven’t been trying the whole day,” he murmured while walking away with Mike. The taller boy waved his thanks and they left.
Kagome sighed and scowled, wondering if she honestly had to refuse. There was the basketball final, but she was sure she wouldn’t be missed there. If the Tigers won, everyone would be too excited to notice her absence. If they lost, the others would be too distracted to realize she wasn't there. Kagome used to be one of those cheering in the stands back in middle school and she vividly recalled having seen Eri, Yuka and Ayumi rooting for their school when they crossed paths a couple of years before. She just didn't find any joy in doing it these days.
Loaded with guilt and a trace of curiosity Kagome walked down the empty halls, following the echoing voices. She had seen Mike and Dustin hanging with Eddie Munson, a fellow classmate and an interesting character, always causing an impression. At the very least, it would be a chance to meet new people.
Inside a room filled with candles and props, Munson sat on a throne, partially hidden behind a book. Dustin and Mike, three other seniors and a younger girl that would often be seen in the stands when the Tigers were playing surrounded a table filled with maps, figures, charts and a dozen cans here and there.
"Come in, Higurashi, don't be shy." She was caught. Kagome flushed under Eddie's tease, "It's not every day that we have a lady spying on us."
The others turned and Kagome graced them with a gritted smile.
"You came!" Said Dustin. He nudged Mike. "Wait, do you know her?" He asked, looking at Eddie.
"We have some classes together, right?" Kagome nodded. "I wouldn't expect you to be interested in Dungeons and Dragons, Miss Higurashi."
"I don't know what it is, but Dustin and Mike mentioned something about role-playing?" She tried. "But I guess I'm too late. Seems you've already started. I don't wanna interr-"
"What?! No, come here, join us." Eddie promptly asked - demanded - Gareth to move, vacating a space between him and Dustin. "The more the merrier."
Dustin went to Kagome and pulled her by the hand until she joined the pack. Eddie handed Gareth his character's sheet and soda cans, cleaning up the space for the newcomer. Kagome took the chance to look at a board set on the table. The small characters were positioned strategically close to a dungeon while a monster stood above the ground in a menacing stand.
"I will just be an observer this time, okay?" Before Dustin could interject, she added, "I don't have a clue about this and your game seems to be rather advanced for me to jump in. I would be merely a nuisance instead of helping. This way I can be more prepared next time." Kagome winked at Dustin, who shifted on his seat and nodded.
Grinning, Eddie named Kagome the official Dungeon Master Assistant for the day. He pulled her chair until she was beside his throne, overwhelmed with the notes and all the plans he had for the group. As they played, he explained some of the basic mechanics, such as the classes and the races using the players as examples.
Kagome understood enough to get anxious as they played. She pictured the group as their respective characters and got nervous at each roll of the dice. As an unbiased observer, she could see the effort Eddie put into making the campaign a pleasurable adventure, hard enough to create a challenge but not to the point of frustration.
The battle was fierce, with the warriors fearlessly facing each of Vecna’s minions. Every adversary left its marks, and the heroes got wounded and tired. The dice spared no compassion, equally provoking on them groans of dismay and cheers of glory. One by one, Gareth, Jeff and Mike fell, leaving only Dustin and Erica against the evil Lord of the Rotted Tower.
As the group reunited far from the prying ears of the Dungeon Master, Eddie explained to Kagome the current table setup and their options: flight or fight. Whatever they choose, the dice would decide their fate. They would need a certain number to safely leave the battleground and loads of luck to land a hit powerful enough to kill the final boss of the adventure.
Dustin and Erica chose to fight until their last health point. Vecna could erase their existence in a single strike unless one of them landed the perfect blow.
Dustin went first.
He made up a prayer with lots of curse words and kissed the dice. The odds were against him and Vecna was implacable when the attack failed. The last man - girl - standing was Erica.
Under the apprehensive stares of the Hellfire Club members, Erica grabbed the dice. Its twenty faces mocking each of them while Eddie squeezed his hands together and chewed his lower lip. Erica released the dice from her shaking hands. Every pair of eyes in the room followed the object as it rolled over the table. The success of the campaign depended on Lady Applejack's final action.
"CRITICAL!"
Kagome had only a vague idea of what was happening but their hollers and cheers said enough. The group of warriors celebrated the defeat of the evil boss. Eddie bowed, bearing his defeat and honouring the heroes. Kagome clapped, their euphoria washing over her. Even not having directly participated in the game, she shared their joy.
For the first time since she moved, the past and loneliness didn’t plague her thoughts. She lived the moment with these new friends and went to bed wearing a smile that night.
Until she woke up.
Drenched, she heaved as the pressure of malicious energy constricted her chest. Waves of fear and agony filled her mind with pleas for help. Her vision got blurry, and a migraine felt as if someone hammered inside her skull.
Kagome took short and uncertain steps until she got to the bathroom. She knelt by the toilet and vomited. Her bangs were glued to her forehead. Her muscles ached.
The last thing she remembered before passing out was the lights failing and a familiar name: Chrissy.

Panasonic in HARUMI FLAG, Tokyo, 2020
Tumblr media
Harumi Flag, a new urban development project located in the Harumi 5-Chome District, has been launched. This development is touted as one of the legacies of the Tokyo 2020 Games.
This 18-hectare area will hold 5,632 privately-owned and rental apartments in 23 buildings. It will accommodate a total of 12,000 residents by 2024.
Energy Management
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in partnership with ten private companies, is planning to redevelop the buildings that hosted the Olympic Village of the 2020 Games into an urban town called HARUMI FLAG. The new town will incorporate residential condominiums, child care facilities, and senior housing to accommodate a wide variety of people’s lifestyles and needs.
The town will use hydrogen as its primary power source, though conventional grid-supplied electricity can be used to supplement it. The area will also use solar generation and power storage systems in common-use spaces in 21 high rises that are now under construction.
In addition to providing hydrogen, HARUMI FLAG will also utilize an area energy management system** to monitor and control electricity consumption in each of the town’s residential blocks. Data from each block will be analyzed by the energy management system to lower reliance on conventional grid-supplied power and to help predict peak demand. By using these solutions, HARUMI FLAG will become an innovative model for sustainable development.
Security & Disaster Prevention
HARUMI FLAG is the name of the game in the snazzy new town being developed by a handful of well-heeled developers. This 13.9 hectare urban village will rewrite the rules of urban renewal and make Tokyo a more livable city for all. Panasonic is proud to be a part of this bold initiative that promises a new era in city planning and management.
Aside from the requisite security and surveillance, the real show stoppers are a handful of innovative features and technologies that will leave a lasting impression on visitors of all ages. Among these is the aforementioned 750 network-connected cameras which send pictures and videos to a specialized emergency response center. Other gizmos include a virtual reality experience which will give the residents a sense of what's in store when they move into their new home in 2024. Moreover, the aforementioned technology is matched with a smart phone enabled security system that will notify users via text message and email as soon as a break-in is detected.
Public Area Lighting
HARUMI FLAG is the first town in Japan with a full-scale hydrogen energy infrastructure system that includes a station, pipelines and hydrogen fuel cell generators. A group of private companies, leveraging the expertise and funds of the Tokyo government, is engaged in unified development and operation of this 18-hectare area.
Panasonic is a key player in this project, offering a comprehensive package of urban development solutions including Hydrogen Power Generation, Energy Management and Security & Disaster Prevention. 750 network-connected cameras are also deployed in town areas and common-use spaces to ensure security for residents. Finally, the HARUMI FLAG sales center features a cutting-edge VR (virtual reality) display that demonstrates how to make the most of a small screen in a large space using a high-brightness laser display. It is a highly entertaining experience. It’s also a smart way to get a glimpse of a future town in the making. The technology is a product of the long and close partnership between Panasonic and the Tokyo metropolitan government.
Virtual Reality Experience
Virtual reality (VR) is computer technology that makes you feel like you are in another place. The software produces images, sounds and other sensations to create a world that appears to be real, but it's all a simulation. Check their site to know more details HARUMI FLAG/晴海フラッグ
A VR system typically requires a headset, a computer, and a device that creates a 3D environment. It may also have sensors that can collect stimuli response information and send it back to the VR system to improve the experience.
A number of industries are benefiting from VR technology, including science and medicine, entertainment, education and real estate. A VR system could allow a doctor to practice procedures with virtual patients without putting them at risk, for example, or architects can show detailed plans in 3D before a building is built.

Kyoto part 1: Sushi, coffee, International Manga Museum, Imperial Palace Grounds
Once we arrived in Kyoto, Charles and I checked into our Airbnb for the duration of our trip there. Since we had decided to stay an extra day in Osaka, we had a limited amount of time in Kyoto, but we had a pretty good idea of the things we most wanted to see/do so that helped keep us on task.
The Airbnb we stayed in was an apartment in a guest house, and it was so gorgeous, even better than it looked in photos! And it was pretty inexpensive as well. We were technically in Kamigyo ward, which is a little to the west of Kyoto Imperial Palace, and northwest of Nishiki Market and the International Manga Museum, which were our main goals for our stay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We were both pretty hungry by this point, so we checked Google maps and realized we were close to a sushi restaurant that was pretty highly rated and also still open, so we walked there. Sure enough, it was super delicious! The place was called Daigen, and it was super fantastic! I think this was actually the only sushi we had the entire trip, but it was extremely extremely good. Even though they didn't really speak any English the staff was super friendly, and the Itamae (head sushi chef) was very very funny. We briefly spoke with some other guests there, including a Japanese-Canadian family that was super into running marathons (we later noticed flyers around for a Kyoto marathon and wondered if that was what brought them into town haha). Everyone was very kind and the chef gave everyone beer when we told him it was our honeymoon and extra shochu when I showed interest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Itamae also took a photo with us at Daigen, super super sweet people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next day was our only full day in Kyoto. We slept in a little bit just to catch up on our rest, and set out to Cafe Perch for breakfast. We actually ate here on our first visit to Japan, and it left a deep impresson on us -- it was the first time we ever had like, Japanese bread? And I don't mean pan, like, small rolls of bread or buns, but like, how they do sliced bread? It's quite different from how we have it, super fluffy and THICK sliced! The coffee at this place was super amazing. They had signs EVERYWHERE that said not to take photos so we didn't, but here's a Japanese blog post we found from an Instagrammer who clearly did it anyway. Maybe it can help give a general idea of the vibe; it had a similar Showa era old school feel to Royal Cafe in Asakusa, Tokyo, that we visited earlier, but with a more informal vibe. Jazz music was playing, there were lots of live plants, and tons of art and vintage stuff to look at lining the walls.
After leaving Perch, we set out to rent bicycles to get around for the day. Japan in general supports a lot of pedestrian and bike traffic (one of the first things that really stood out to us on our first visit!) and Kyoto in particular is super easy to navigate by cycle, especially since it's super flat. Two bikes for 24 hours were 700 yen each, around $10 total. Bikes function very differently than in the US; each bike has a lock on the back tire, so the owner gave us the keys for our rentals. Kyoto is pretty flat, so most bikes are cruiser style. It is an efficient way to get around and enjoy the scenery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next in our day was the International Manga Museum. I kind of don't even know where to start on this one, it's exactly what it sounds like!
Tumblr media
The entrance features shelves and shelves of manga from many countries all over the world; and further in are walls and walls of manga -- the museum also functions as a sort of library, so there are tons of desks around where you can sit and read to your heart's content while you're there. You can read anything you find, sit anywhere you find a seat, all they ask is you return it where you found the book. The main hall explains what manga is, how it is made, etc. and has huge walls of manga broken down by year it was made. There were lots of other small exhibits too. Another cool thing about this museum is that it's also a preserved local elementary school. Interspersed with the manga exhibits are displays and rooms explaining the history of the school, how it relates to the area, what a school day there may have been like, etc. Here's a main link to the International Manga Museum, and I'll probably do a seperate photo dump post for most of the photos we took there!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the manga museum, we planned to go to the Kyoto Imperial Palace, but Charles was feeling a bit weird, so we decided to go back to our Airbnb to rest for a bit instead. After about an hour of napping, we decided to get back out there, but unfortunately, by the time we got there, the actual Imperial Palace area itself was closed, we could only walk around the grounds, which are now preserved basically as a park, including the Munakata Shrine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two photos were the main walk up to the Imperial Palace (the walled off area with the big gate) but it closed at 4 PM apparently. Womp womp. Still, the photos don't do it justice to how insanely huge the space is, especially the mountains off in the distance behind the palace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are Japanese apricot trees (we think? they also come up as Prunus Mume, which are plum blossom trees, so I'm not 1000% sure the most accurate name!)
It was a little disappointing to not get to go inside, but it was getting quite cold as the sun was going down, so we walked around the left side of the grounds before going to Nishiki Market, where we planned to get a bite to eat.
Next up, Nishiki Market! XOX0

March 2022, Japan. Warning— it’s a long listen and if you don’t have time just skip down. The heavy stuff is posted all the way down, but I didn’t realize tumblr forces you to make an account to see it. But it really does show his true colors and the dynamic of our “relationship”.
This is the only time I was able to record “Albie” yelling and swearing at me, though there have been many many other times while I cried. I’ve never yelled at him like that. You can tell by my tone of voice that I was used to it. You can even hear him telling me to stop recording him. This was in Japan after he had taken the WiFi and keys and umbrella and I was waiting outside our apartment in the cold and rain alone.
It was March 2022, literally one day after the mask mandate was “officially” legally lifted, but culturally everyone was wearing a mask. We couldn’t get into a taxi because the driver claimed he “couldn’t navigate to an address” when “Albie” wasn’t wearing a mask.
He was supposedly booking a flight to abandon me in Japan. He even packed his bags. He later admitted he couldn’t book a flight or couldn’t afford the last minute ones available and dramatically pretended to pack his bags to….. destroy me psychologically? He even said he’d stay in California. Little did I know I should have left then. And he didn’t want me to come back.
Side note— I had done ALL of the planning for the Japan trip and it stressed me out so much I cried and begged him for at least some help/input. He even complained he was bored when I didn’t know where else to take him or if my plans didn’t meet his expectations. I took him to hold real owls, eat true matcha soba (—he loved that so much that he ordered it in bulk; I ate it every day while he was gone m-f and again when he came back on the weekends, I’m so sick of it lol—) I took him to meet real deer and taught him how to make them bow, I took him to temples and shrines, we got to see a genuine Japanese wedding ceremony, I took him to Tsukiji fish market twice, I introduced him to so many of my friends and even my host mother and host sisters;
I used my connections to get him exclusive access to multiple teamLab exhibits (PLANETS and teamLab botanical garden Osaka) and my friend was kind enough to take us to a very famous fish-your-own- meal spot, as well as give us a personalized tour of teamLab planets Osaka where he worked as an engineer. I also served as a personal tour guide/translator to Ikebukuro aquarium and the surrounding area including Sunshine City, most of Tokyo including Harajuku, Shibuya and Dogenzaka, Nakano Broadway, Ginza, the largest s3x shop in Tokyo in Akihabara, horse meat sashimi, Kabuchicho, my old workplace, SEGA Joypolis and DECKS. Asakusa, ICHIRAN, true 回転寿司 (revolving sushi)、 the bullet train to Kyoto, Osaka, Kimono Rentals, True natural 温泉 (hot springs) in a traditional 旅館 (Japanese inn) Hakone.
I even asked my friends to get us reservations that I couldn’t get because I didn’t have a Japanese phone number; I showed him amazing food with an incredible yen exchange rate. Like I said, I was his personal translator and tour guide. And he took it all for granted.
