Artists creating specifically to sell and trading off (some of) their own style to do it, activists begging for attention and shares and media coverage because they aren't being paid enough attention, UNWRA desperate for donations, the percentage of people who don't mask in 2024 compared to deaths and disabilities, ppl who need to be convinced to vote with principles that save lives and that genocide is unacceptable, how a living wage or UBI is believed to be "unrealistic" despite the trillions in shareholder investment accounts.
....I'm starting to think Mainstream People™ fucking suck, ngl. In fact, dare I say that Mainstream People are the biggest obstacle to progress now.
Malcolm X said it was the white liberal as did a lot of other revolutionaries and thinkers.
I, however, think anyone who can hold their own comfort over someone else's suffering is the problem.
Why are the rest of us constantly begging and shouting and changing ourselves and our bodies in an effort to make them care about us? To make them see us? To give us rights? To bless us with the support needed to make a living?
Same shit, different generations. And idk about y'all, but I would love to be the last generations who ever had to hate themselves to survive.

The entire point of eliminationist rhetoric like the right’s ongoing smear of the LGBTQ community as pedophilic “groomers” is never simply to “own the libs”—it’s to create permission: permission to direct violence freely at the targeted minority group. When it’s as vaguely defined and generalized as this trope, it’s also permission to direct violence against anyone in the general vicinity. And as Hunter says, it’s working.
This rhetoric has spread so rapidly and broadly that it set off alarms at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), who this week published a report examining the problem and its roots within social media. Among its key findings: Much of the hate is being generated by a handful of well-known right-wing influencers, and the companies in charge of the social-media platforms have been failing miserably at stopping its spread.
"CCDH researchers found an alarming and intense increase in recent months in anti-LGBTQ hate rhetoric in social media, nearly all of it built around the baseless lie that LGBTQ people “groom” children for sexual exploitation and recruitment."
The spread of the rhetoric has occurred simultaneously with a spike in hate crimes:
Through an over-time analysis, which quantifies tweets containing slurs like ‘groomers’ or ‘pedophiles’ in the context of conversations about LGBTQ+ people between January and July of 2022, CCDH researchers found that the volume of tweets engaging in ‘grooming’ discourse increased by 406% in the month following the passage of the ‘Don’t Say Gay or Trans’ bill in Florida.
Far-right groups with a broad range of ideological focuses, including neofascist white power groups like Patriot Front—which had 31 members arrested in Idaho while attempting to create a riot at a Pride event—and Christian nationalists, including fundamentalist preachers demanding that gay people be lined up and shot in the head—have been targeting Pride events around the nation this year while wielding “groomer” rhetoric. The ADL reported that it monitored seven in-person extremist activities targeting the LGBTQ community on one weekend alone, that of June 11 and 12.
While they all seem to have a variety of pseudo-rationales for their irrational hatreds, the one thing they share in common in these attacks is the vicious eliminationist demonization using rhetoric—such as labeling every LGBTQ person and their defenders “groomers”—identifying them as predatory pedophiles, either actual or potential. For the Proud Boys—who have been developing an antidemocratic strategy of deploying their thuggery at primarily local events organized by others—it’s proven an ideal fit, leading them to show up to harass parents and children at Pride-related library events and similar situations. White nationalists and other neofascist groups have shown up to harass the LGBTQ community in concert with Christian nationalists at locales around the country.
As Media Matters’ John Kneffel observes, much of this hateful narrative is being generated in ostensibly mainstream conservative quarters by such social media influencers as @LibsOfTikTok. One of the primary generators of the hate campaign in Texas and elsewhere is a woman named Kelly Neidert, the founder of Protect Texas Kids, which has been organizing a number of the protests outside Pride events, including one in Dallas that drew a crowd of white nationalist Groypers to harass parents and kids.
Neidert—who has described herself online as a “Christian fascist”—earned a permanent suspension from Twitter after she posted: "Let's start rounding up people who participate in Pride events."The primary superspreaders of the viral “groomer” rhetoric were identified by CCDH researchers, who were able to assess the 500 most-viewed hateful “grooming” tweets from its wider sample of some 989,547 tweets. Those 500 tweets were viewed an estimated 72 million times in total and received 399,260 likes and retweets.
The researchers found that tweets from just 10 people were viewed an estimated 48 million times, equivalent to 66% of the reach for the most-viewed hateful tweets. That list of 10 people is comprised of well-known far-right figures:
1. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Georgia congresswoman 2. James Lindsay, popular “anti-woke” activist and author 3. Lauren Boebert, Colorado congresswoman 4. Chaiya Raichik, activist behind “LibsofTikTok” account 5. Tim Young, right-wing comedian and author 6. Christina Pushaw, press secretary for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis 7. Frank “Drew” Hernandez, pundit for Turning Point USA (TPUSA) 8. Chad Prather, right-wing pundit for BlazeTV 9. Jack Posobiec, white-nationalist provocateur and TPUSA pundit 10. “Matt’s Idea Shop,” right-wing pundit for The Daily Wire
Yep, it's organised, it's driven by a handful of extremists, and it's fascist.

Ohio republicans trying to hold an election they hoped would go unnoticed in order to deny Ohioans simple majority rule (changing it from 50% to 60% majority), only for it to be one of the highest voter turnouts for an August election ever in the state AND the votes against them being 60%+ anyway? Lol. Lmao even.

Part of me thinks that they should just give the Speaker of the House election to the person with the most votes and skip this "majority vote" shit because the person with the most votes literally was voted by the majority of the voters for that ballot (you know, like normal voting SHOULD work), and this is just going to bite us Americans in the ass the longer they go on. Like why should we have to wait for the Repubs to win when they've lost 13 times so far?
The other half hopes one of those old farts just snaps and throws a chair at McCarthy, or the person who nominated Trump
And then a secret third part of me is curious if we can break the record of 44 ballots set in 1859. Like okay yeah, the government ain't getting shit done, and we're probably fucked, but let's go for a record!

You've been talking about Star Wars and Dragon Age recently and basically Anders shouldn't be allowed a lightsaber, but Justice should absolutely be given one.
I spent a bit too many brain cells on this and kinda got away from original prompt (sorry! >_<) but here's my crack idea for Anders and Justice in SW AU!
Anders is a runaway Sith Acolyte that crash-lands onto a marsh planet during his seventh escape attempt. He is unexpectedly rescued from his sith pursuers by a lone old man, who turns out to be one of the last surviving members of the Jedi Order, which was allegedly wiped out years ago.
Just as Anders thinks things are looking up, the creepy swamp man abruptly declares that he will take Anders as his padawan learner because "it is clearly the will of the Force."
Anders protests.
Jedi Master Justice insists.
Tumblr media
“I sense much fear and anger in you,” the old man said disapprovingly. But then something in his hard stare softened for just a flicker, blue eyes searching. “But also a capacity for much compassion and fortitude as well,”
“Oh,” Anders could only say. “So... you're not going to kill me?”
The man finally disengaged his lightsaber with a flourish, clipping it back to his belt, much to Anders' immense relief. “No, but you must swear to abandon all your teachings of the Dark Side. Such evil has no place here,”
“Done!” Anders quickly agreed. “Never wanted to be a sith!” Really, all he wanted to do was escape to the nearest space port and disappear.
"Good," strange swamp man nodded, for the first time sounding pleased. "Then I accept you as my padawan learner,”
“Thanks-- wait what??”
“I had not thought I would take another padawan so late in life, but such is the will of the Force”
“What,”
“Your training begins tomorrow,”
“No! Wait! You can't just – I don't-- I just left the Sith! I don't want anything to do with the Force!”
But the crazed old man had already bent down and grabbed him rather securely by his collar like a limp tooka. There was unexpected strength beneath those gnarled, grizzled hands. "The Force led you here for a reason,"
No! An unguarded starfigher with a busted hyperspace calculator led me here! Anders wanted to scream but all his trashing was for naught and that was how Anders, former sith acolyte, was inducted into the Jedi Order by a senile marsh man.
Tumblr media
And thus, this is why SW!Anders has a blue lightsaber yet can also shoot lightning. ⚡
(And yes after Master Justice dies heroically saving Anders and friends, Anders vows to avenge his fallen master, only for said master to continue advising/harassing him in Force Ghost form... ^_^;;)
(And yes the Chantry is basically the Empire in this version haha. Anders background is mostly unchanged in that he is taken as a child from his parents after showing Force Sensitivity but in this AU the Sith destroyed the Jedi so Anders is initially trained as a sith but later abandons the Dark Side to train as a Jedi. He's mostly successful and Justice helps encourage his compassion and fortitude, allowing him to access Force Healing, but there are times Anders still falls prey to his repressed anger and fury).

I do think its no coincidence that the same people who completely dismiss the rise of US fascism are the same people who dismiss how being part of an already imperialised people in the heart of empire effects how the benefits of empire are distributed and if they are distribution in meaningful ways at all.

you ever think about how kim is a gay cop? how does he sleep at night knowing that he's part of an organization that has historically oppressed and likely still oppresses people like himself? how does he live with that? he joined the rcm despite the fact that homosexuality used to be illegal, meaning he is part of a system directly responsible for the arrest of lgbt people. does he feel more shame over being a cop and betraying himself and his peers, or over being gay (somehow, i doubt it's the former)? how does he live with the pure, unadulterated guilt? is there cognitive dissonance involved? if not, then how the fuck does he cope? what is his relationship with the broader lgbt community? how does he navigate socializing with other gay people despite his job? does he not bring it up? does he just keep everyone at arm's length? how does he manage the loneliness of it all? how can he stand it?

The pushback to the term "cultural Christianity" from atheists is real odd to me because, as someone who has been an atheist since 13, only ever went to church a handful of times never with my own family (made a note never to sleep over at that friends house on a Saturday again bc I HATED church it smelled like shit, was boring, pews are uncomfortable as fuck, and the religious people I knew were all wildly misogynistic and I've never been here for being told I was less of a person for being Born Like This), and generally had no actual connection to Christianity in a meaningful way but still only knows Christian mythology, has been steeped in Christian values I had to untangle, and my religious understandings are still deeply Christian.
Like Ive never paid attention to the bible, church, Jesus, Christian teachings, or whatever but if you asked me about any religion the one I'll reliably know the most about is Christianity. I don't know why atheists are offended by being called culturally Christian because they have bad blood with the religion because like sorry bruh that doesn't mean you're less indoctrinated by Christian values if the culture you grew up in is predominantly Christian. In fact I'd say that religion being this ubiquitous in the culture regardless of anyone's consent to exactly ONE religion being shoved down our throats is reason to team up with other religious folks who ALSO don't like being constantly evangelized to by the culture at large, not a reason to throw a fit because you don't like being tied to a religion that is so ingrained into the culture that shit like "oh my god" and "Jesus Christ" are common expressions of surprise regardless of how atheist you are. Like surely I'm not the only atheist to notice the shocking amount of cultural religious shit that works it's way into my life and speech despite having not set foot in a church since I was like 10, and I can't remember the last time I was in one before that.
Idk man cultural Christianity seems like a pretty damn useful term to describe my relationship with a religion I never fully bought into and then actively rejected as a child yet still hold weird connections to and knowledge of just because Christianity is so baked into the culture I grew up in like it or not. If you want to be mad, be mad at the Christians who stole your freedom from religion from you, not usually religious minorities who discuss cultural Christianity and how it damages them too.
#winters ramblings#like breh i HATE how much christian bullshit ive had to detangle from my life. like the idea of sin and punishment for example#id say a LOOOOOT of discussion regardless of religion leans towards a Christian understanding of the pridon system#prison is basically a recreation of hell on earth where youre supposed to go to burn off your sins in your 10x10 cell#now i gotta say not all Christians buy inti the styke of punishment and sin i know normal well adjusted Christians#but for the most part a HUGE portion of shit comes with a helping of cultural Christianity. but prison is probably the best example#hell any discussion of punishment relies on a distinctly christian flavor of 'atone for your sin or be doomed forever"#repubs bitch about so called cancel culture but thats just how Christians act towards sin lmao they do it too#except they choose shit you didnt ACTIVITY make a choice about like being gay to condem you to hell.#cant be mad that twitter cancels people for small shit like a crap joke if you actively subscribe to the same belief system#and are only mad bc that logic is applied to YOU now. anyway i could do without this logic in activist spaces#or ANY spaces being doomed forever over sin is only one way to do Christianity. like damn can the ones who like#rehabilitation and justice and helping the poor at least be the ones in charge??#regardless ive never been a Christian and barely have a meaningful connection to the religion. whuch is why i find it rather salient#that i still have this deep connection and knowledge of something i ACTIVELY REJECTED at 13#do you know HOW MUCH i had to have been indoctrinated into this shit with as LITTLE of a connection to organized religion as i do??#the fact i have ANY connection at all is kind if fucked honestly it shows you really REALLY do not get to choose#your religious leanings unless youre actively ANOTHER RELIGION BESIDES CHRISTIAN otherwise tough tiddy#you get to be Christian By Default and i don't like it either. but when i see jewish people talking about it#i know EXACTLY what they mean because i dont like my connection to a religion i never believed in and rejected at 13 either#i don't like that my choice to reject Christianity was stolen from me by such a ubiquitously christian culture#im not mad at jews for pointing this out im mad at christians for stealing my freedom of choice

Valka marrying and having a baby with a guy who hates dragons despite having dragon sympathies is like women (but especially left-leaning/Democratic ones) being involved with Republican men.
Do not get it.
(Unless it was an arranged thing. Who knows.)
Honestly, I think people who write them as divorced in fanfics are correct.

Hi I’m trying to raise money / get help to pay off my car repair. I have a 10 month old baby and my gas tank was drilled into, it was a $1,647 repair. I think it was a hate crime but I have filed a police report, nothing can happen though since there is no surveillance camera injust have to submit whatever evidence I can find. Me and her has Covid and I didn’t move my car for 2 weeks from the public parking spot. She also has attachment anxiety to me and cries when I go to the bathroom or shower. So my neighbors might have taken it out on me for that or it’s simply was someone trying to steal gas. I’m just a single mom with a $2k of rent to pay monthly and I desperately need my car. Please boost anything helps.
