Hi! I don't know if this is an annoying/difficult question, sorry if it is, but do you have any advice at all for modelling sims based off real people? Your sims are SO crazy good. When I try to make them they end up looking... eh... Vaguely like the person? But there's a huge gap between that and some kind of 'spark' some simmers seem to manage to capture.

Hello! Definitely not annoying. Difficult, as in how difficult it is to answer? Maybe. I'm gonna go off on a couple of tangents. But I'm gonna try my best to explain the process. Which isn't really much of one sorry.

There's a handful of tutorials and tips out there regarding reference photos and like... proportions and all that so I won't cover that.

I use that as a general guide of course, but mostly I just save some photos of the person at various angles and focus on one feature or two at a time. Literally going back and forth between reference photo and my game. I think if you try to get everything at the same time, it really makes it easy to get frustrated with whatever your sim looks like at the moment. Making sims in general is a combination of a LOT of things depending on your style.

I can point out ALL the flaws with my sims based on real people. In my experience, it’s about getting the defining features of a person close enough to the real thing so that it resembles them. I don't think you need a complete copy to get the point across, however i do think some people and features are harder to emulate than others. I've been working on some sims for YEARS, and they still don't work out lol

Personally, I get a little lost if I work on a sim too much all at once. I find some time away makes me less tired and frustrated. Just pace yourself :)

TO START...

I suggest starting with the head and its shape. Starting off with a game-generated sim, the first slider I get to is head width. It's usually too dang wide for my tastes. And then adjusting the general position of the the features. You can always change things later, so you don't have to know exactly what you're going to do, but as I've mentioned before, sculpting sims up in CAS is just practice with sliders! Also in the long run, you may want to use Pu+Chi House's Smooth Face Normals slider! I attempt to explain and show what it does here. SLIDERS SLIDERS SLIDERS

Big sliders like Pu+Chi House’s face shape sliders dramatically change the face shape, and it could save you a lot of time! I highly suggest using these to get rid of the weird large jaw sims can get.

Play with different sliders and how they interact with one another! Example: jaw width and Cheek Fullness affect the same area. if you need a wide jaw and don’t want cheek distortion, you can use cheek fullness, lower the jaw width slider and then edit the cheekbones from there

Knowing what sliders move what and how it can work to your advantage is key! I cover this in my reply post about noses.

For visual reference:

I start out with my nose but I want the nostrils to sit further on the outside

so i go in and use the nose width slider and raise it to widen the lower nose:

Then lower the nostril scale slider

Comparison:

as you can see, i kind of achieved what I wanted, but also widened the nose tip too! Welp, that takes another slider I have, Tip Width. And I'll adjust that accordingly! It's really just a matter of what you're going for and what you're going to have to compensate for as a result!

That said, our community has made some awesome sliders that open up so many possibilities and even eliminate the need to do that multi-slider tango. I wouldn't even know where to begin (wish I wanted to make videos because I could talk for an hour about sliders)

For example @pitheinfinite made sliders that can make sims look better and more realistic, I'm jealous at what they've achieved!

They have their Inner Corner to Nose slider that moves an area of the sim's face hat make eyebags and the shadows and lines appear farther out from the inner eye. It saves you from having to use cheek sliders to mimic the effect and thus ruining the face shape you have going

It's truly an INDISPENSABLE slider. One of many!

Since I make sliders, I usually just make some to specifically fix whatever issue I'm having. Granted they're made with general function in mind, which makes my cheater-y way of making things happen more useful in the future. I have about 50 experimental unfinished sliders in my game and can tell you that all my current sims use them for some reason or other. So I'm not working with nothing, I guess?

EYE SPY 👁

The best way to really get nice accurate looking sims is the eyes.

Pay attention to the slant of the eye, the shape and position of the upper and lower eyelids. you can use the game’s Eyelid Height slider, and AWT’s Eyelid width and height sliders (and many more)

and especially where the iris (green) sits relative to the eyelid. getting that shape and eyeball positioned correctly really makes a HUGE difference

I do suggest Bloom’s Eye slider (left and right) that rotate the eyes left and right. That along with their Lazy eye sliders can give your sims a less symmetric face and position the eyes to be FAR more accurate and realistic than the default.

I also recommend their vertical sliders (Eye lift or drop) to help with eye positioning.

I can't stress the importance of the right contacts or eyes for your sims. Of course it all depends on how you make your sims's eyes and all that. Take the last sim i posted about. It took forever and a half to find the right contacts that didn't need severe or intense editing to capture the same vibe the person he's based on. The problem is pretty persistent for me, and I am just speaking for myself when I say this is necessary. Iris size, shading, recolorability, detail, catch lights, and pupil position are things to consider for your play style and preferences.

In addition to seeing what eyes will do the trick, I do edit the catch lights in the screenshots to give the eyes a different emotion or look. (I use defaults that get rid of the game-generated catch lights, and supernatural eye glow.) It's nice when that's all it is and I don't have to go in and photoshop things in and out to make them look human lmao

Perfect, schmerfect

And just know that as long as you have the same vibe or look going on it doesn't need to be perfect! Things will evolve over time, and you can change and perfect things as you go along, but close is better than trying to achieve an exact replica. We are working with the limitations of sliders and the optimized meshes they work on! So yeah there might be jagged bits or the profile might not exactly match and some things might not be accurate, but that's okay! Considering what sims look like at their default, you should be proud! I use the same mf eyebrows on all my sims basically and I tell myself they're just placeholders (yeah, right), but I manage to make them work with what I have!

Sliders, Makeup, and Skins, oh my!

a good base skin is critical, but not the end of the world if you pick the wrong one. They determine kind of definition and types of features highlighted on a sim 100000% and you might lose a feature you like or dislike when you change them! Feel free to switch up between skins you have to find the best fit.

Makeup can be a game-changer though!!! Any details you can add and help make your sim look the most like the person you're basing them off can go MILES.

In some cases, I've actually gotten really interesting results trying to get my sculpt as close as possible to real life references so the makeup makes a difference but don't define the features by themselves. Still, though, I utilize makeup up a LOT. [remember that if you use Nraas, you can layer makeup. Right-clicking makeup will also remove it if it's applied :)]

Here's the last sim i posted about when removing makeup:

no nosemasks really replicates the face-claim's nose (too shiny at the lower part) but it'll do 🤷‍♀️

Freckles, eyebags, highlighters, face shadows, pores, nosemasks, etc are all great!!

The way you move your sliders WILL effect how these look, so don't rely on makeup that adds super-specific detail or goes over an area you know is a jumbled mess because of sliders!

Finally, I appreciate your comment about my sims, mainly because I know they're not ever really exact copies or as close as I want to be to their real life counterparts, so thanks!! I've seen fellow simmers get really good results without messing as much as I do and I love when people can make really good maxis match likenesses because it's just so damn cool! It's truly a talent. I'm not one of those lucky few, but I like to try my way at it anyway. After what feels like some good progress I'll post a pic here. Even after doing this forever I don't feel like I'm an expert or can get good results in a shorter amount of time, but it's just fun to see the progression (or regression) of how my sims look.

the shadows are not as noticeable, the transparency between the walls is not there and the blur is gone (i have miiko´s ghibli's cloud override but i had that on my old computer and the reshade still looked normal) idk if it's the game or the reshade but it sucks bc i love how the original looks like anyways it would be really helpfull if you could answer. hi hi! thanks for the kind message and i hope your year is going well! if I had to take a guess, I would say that maybe some of your settings in-game have changed? I would double check and make sure you’ve got edge smoothing off, and you could try turning off post-processing as well (im not ACTUALLY sure if turning off post processing does anything but it’s worth a shot!) otherwise i would try removing the preset and redownloading it? maybe the settings of the preset got jacked up and you can fix it by re-installing. let me know if this helps! if not, then you can always dm me so i can see pics of your situation!

Hi! Sorry if this is worded odd but I just downloaded your Leif reshade and have completed all the steps, however there is still this blur over the screen which isn't the best for game play. If you could help explain how to toggle it for gameplay/cas that would be great :)

hi hi! the blur is the DoF (depth-of-field). it’s used for taking screenshots and is supposed to make the background all blurry. to disable it, you can use the hotkey shift-2 or open the reshade menu and manually untick the DoF option!

Hi, i just installed the latest version of the dove preset and my game is dark. It is the MXAO that is doing it but i don't have the preprocessor definitions box. How do i fix it?

hello! im assuming you have a 4.0 version of reshade if you can’t find the box. in this version, it’s a blue tab called “Edit Global Preprocessor Definitions” beneath all the toggleable effects. if you have an earlier version, it should be under the “settings” tab at the top though.

Hello!! Thank you so much for your work! I have a really quick question - so I am trying to work with the reshade and got it all set but when I play around with it, my objects don’t look “rounded”. If that makes sense. Other people who use it, their objects look rounded and smooth and just different (I have an image for reference) but mine just looks like the normal objects just different colors. Is there something I’m missing or doing something wrong? I have all the settings correct. :)

hi hi! hmm, im not really sure what that could be... probably something to do with mxao bc it’s always something to do with mxao lol. I would double check to make sure you have this line in your preprocessor definitions: RESHADE_DEPTH_INPUT_IS_REVERSED = 0 this line should equal 0 for the mxao to work properly. that might give you the “rounded” look. if this doesn’t fix it for you then you should go ahead and dm me so i can see what the game looks like!

Could you please help me with what to remove? hello! sorry to hear that your game can’t handle the preset :( here’s to hoping you can get an upgrade in the future! anyhow, to uninstall; i believe you only need to remove

ReShade - config settings (it’ll have a little paper w/ gear next to it)

d3d9.dll - application extension (it’ll have a little paper w/ gears ON it)

d3d9 - text document (little paper w/ lines icon)

reshade-shaders - folder

your reshade presets - config settings (if you remove the files above first though, you won’t be able to use/see these in-game)

that should uninstall reshade from your game! and don’t worry, if you accidentally remove something you didn’t want to, you can “verify your game files” through origin and that should restore any missing files. unless you.. *ahem*... acquired your game through other means... in which case be careful XD

Omg I don't know if you are active or not but I'm having some problems. So I downloaded the 3.0.8 and it was going smoothly but I loaded the game it said that magic bloom had issues.

i don’t know if im active either. probably not tbh XD but im here now so here ya go! i would recommend deleting the shaders you’re having problems with and then putting back the 3.0.8 shaders you downloaded. it’s really easy for things to break / be incompatible during the install so your best bet is always to delete the ones giving you trouble and put the new ones in.

Hello, I've been trying to fix the dove reshade for a long time, but the new version just doesn't support it, and the old version spoils the game and sometimes it won't even start ... Would you consider trying to make the same preset version for the latest reshade version? I'll be very grateful because your preset is the most beautiful I have ever seen?! 😘😂Don't know if you still play of work on your game but like I said if you have time to try make new one couse everyone was looking for it!!! 😉😘😘😘

hi hi! i totally understand not using the earlier versions--these later ones are soo much more user friendly!--but i’ve been able to get the preset to work with later versions (4.7.0 is the latest i’ve tried though) and it looks, if not the same, then very close to the original. I have a video here explaining how i did it if you’re really eager to have it

in the future i guess i could try to re-release the preset? i can’t give you an eta bc im lazy and i fall off the face of the earth regularly, but i do think it would help to have updated instructions right on the face of the download.

sure, i can give a tiny bit of insight on how i colour. Under the readmore:

At this point of my personal understanding, i would say colouring is just two things: 1) making sure your colours look good together, and 2) lighting (if u decide to even do lighting/shadows, that is)

The 1st one you can achieve by doing palette studies based on photographs or other ppls art, or by doing trial and error, or apparently by learning colour theory (im too dumb to understand it) and also applying digital tricks like overlay layers and also fiddling with hue/sat/brightness/contrast until it looks good to you. Below is my latest Audrey drawing without the overlay layer (left) and then with the overlay layer (right).

It’s magic, right!? I’m so used to having an overlay layer in every drawing now that these days i just slap one on before i even start colouring lmao. usually 20-50% opacity, usually a saturated orange or pink and then i’ll adjust as i go. mostly i just do trial and error like fitting wooden toy shapes into the right holes - my brain will go “ding!” when the arrow on the hue gauge hits a colour that looks good to my eyes.

The 2nd one, lighting, is more complex. I always say “lighting is everything” because to me it IS...it can control the entire mood of the picture. Where is the light? Is it hard or soft? is there a secondary light? What emotion are u trying to convey? and then how can you execute it? how would light look on THIS object compared to THAT object? A big part of lighting is being able to visualize your drawing in 3D. Once you can do that, you can lay down the light and shadows quite naturally depending on where your light source is. this ties into the way you DRAW things tho (like, u have to already be thinking about 3D while in the drawing stage) so i dont wanna get into it since this post is about colouring.

Lately I’ve been p lazy and doing all my major shadows on a single layer, set to “Shade” on sai (it might be something diff on other programs idk), 42% opacity (for this particular piece), and clipped to my folder of colour layers. So that means almost all my actual colour layers are just flat colours! Here’s my main shadow layer all by itself without any base colours (left), and then shadows + base colours (right):

sometimes i’m already thinking about lighting while im still sketching the picture. sometimes i’m already thinking about lighting before i even start to draw. For this particular pic I ended up with 5 different layers for lighting: 1) all shadows (42% opacity Shade layer); 2) some extra shadow under her hat (72% opacity Shade layer), which then allowed me to create the cool hat texture by simply erasing bits of this layer 3) a soft angelic backglow coming from behind her. this layer goes somewhere above the lineart layer to give the illusion of light spilling in front of her and fading out her edges; 4) secondary blue reflective light coming from the....sky im presuming, but mostly because i just felt like the drawing needed some blue lol; 5) a 55% opacity overlay layer containing a trace amount of vignette in 3 of the corners + an extra glob of light just to the right of her cuz i was experimenting with different instagram filters near the end and found one i rly liked and tried replicating it on sai 😂 Here’s the picture with only my main shadow layer (left) vs the picture with all 5 lighting layers (right):

The pic on the right makes her look more like she is Somewhere. I think I could’ve pushed the depth even more but i wasn’t confident enough. And sai doesn’t have blur tool :(

I also always have at least one layer that i name “extra”. The Extra layer goes on top of the colours/shadows/lineart layers, but under the overlay/glow layers. This is for extra details (including extra LIGHTING details) that I wanna add like extra sparkles, extra straw hat strands, hair strands, hair shine, zipper shine, etc all for that “extra” touch of realness. I don’t do all this stuff at the end, though. I have my Extra layer created pretty early on and i go back to it and add to it when I need to. Here’s what it would look like without the Extra layer (left), and with it (right). Try to find all the extra bits i listed:

One last note is i don’t colour one thing at a time. Before I start, I slap on all the base colours and all the shadows super roughly, just to check if my lighting and colour choices look good TOGETHER and make the entire composition look good. no point in spending hours rendering all the lighting and shadows on the character’s hair if in the end u decide there was actually a better lighting design u could’ve gone with. So here’s the rough colouring plan I made for myself before i started rendering for real:

im not sure if this was useful at all but i hope it was interesting at least! if you want to see my actual chronological process for colouring you can watch the gif of wips i compiled here: [link]. You’ll notice that i edit my lines as i colour. I think it’s good to be adaptable, and to be ready to go back and change ur lines to benefit your lighting, colouring, and overall look of the piece.

Can I ask what the problems were with Austin’s official art? I’m a dumbass who doesn’t play the sax lmao

first of all you’re not dumb, most of the inaccuracies i’ve spotted are just obvious to me b/c i’ve played the sax for like, a decade lmao. also i know this post is ridiculous and nitpicky and i’m not trying to like. attack v*ria or anything so please don’t send me messages later lol

so like what sticks out the most is that it’s literally just a stock image of a saxophone edited into the drawing. she colored the bell (the curvy part at the end, where the sound comes out of) + the mouthpiece so you might not see it at first but if you zoom into the buttons it’s pretty easy to tell lol. i put the (flipped) original drawing at the bottom of this post if you need to reference it.

now onto very specific things that irked me:

1. austin’s sax is a tenor, but it’s the size of an alto: both instruments look the same but you can tell the sax in question is a tenor b/c of the curve before the mouthpiece. here’s a cute little graphic to illustrate size differences!

as you can see the tenor is significantly bigger lol. the sax in austin’s official art should’ve been like, twice as big.

2. the saxophone is flipped. honestly i didnt even notice this until I was typing this up but the keys on the bottom of austin’s sax are what your right hand rests on. it looks as though she imported an image facing the other way and then decided to flip it, even though that’s not how saxophones work lmao!! you just plain don’t see all of the buttons from that angle. for comparison...

3. his hands aren’t even in the right spot!! though the sax looks super confusing to a non-player, i promise there’s a method 2 the madness. i did my best to label the pics above - though the buttons I circled aren’t all of the buttons you use they’re generally where each hand rests/where your basic notes come from. (there are additional buttons on the sides for flats/sharps/octaves etc but that is absolutely not the point of this post lol). i pointed this out in the image down below (and flipped it bcuz now it irritates me that it’s not facing the right way lmao):

I mean you could make the argument that he’s holding it or something but like, his fingers are clearly drawn to be pressing buttons of some sort, but i mean, first of all it’s honestly levitating bc he has no real grip on it, second of all there are easier and less risky ways to hold ur sax, and third of all my final point:

4. there’s no neck strap: bro you can’t play a sax while holding it up with no neck strap. u just can’t. trust me ive tried many times as a joke lmao. if you can play it just doesn’t sound great bc your fingers are just pressing down on everything!! if you let go of some buttons to play different notes u WILL drop it!! neck straps exist to allow you to play both while standing and sitting. also the sax is like, a heavy instrument (especially the tenor & the bari) so the strap on ur neck (i’ve seen some for the back too w/ the larger saxes) helps to distribute the weight so you’re not like, dying.

i just. idk like the reason i know these things is because i’m a saxophonist but like, i’d figure that if you’re being paid to make official art for a real book series you’d like... put in like 2 seconds of effort? at least use one reference of somebody actually playing?? do 30 seconds of research??? there’s so much about this that’s so lazy i just can’t get over it. like i understand that the saxophone is an extremely complex instrument that’s very hard to draw but like... idk ? like i said you’re literally being paid

anyway here’s the drawing i made with some of the stuff fixed b/c it would not stop bugging me!!

my icon’s my dnd character lmao! a bit too lazy to link the full pic, and while it’s on my art ig, i don’t really wanna share it because it’s associated with me irl (honestly, whenever i see someone mixing their fandom persona w/ irl shit where everyone can see it, it scares me). i had dabbled in like digital art before but i think this was around where i was like ‘maybe i’m not entirely shit at drawing’ lmao-- i think this piece touches on colours well which is smt i’m not always great with. if you can find the first pic of my art on my blog w/ jaime, i think you can see me struggling w/ how to color digitally and stuff especially. legit can’t look at that pic lmao bc it’s so ugly. but here it turned out nice-- now i can see the errors in like the proportions but i think it just looks ~stylistic~ so it evens out

common issue with me is that i’m a perfectionist and i feel like my writing nor my art is like ‘up w/ the best’ so that just makes me not want to do shit. i don’t think i’m ready to read this yet over again and i have to wait another year but i’m just happy i put this out there and unlike the rest of the fics i wrote kind of halfassed it so i could just say i wasn’t trying if someone ended up criticizing me lmao

my most recent shit and it kind of makes my heart warm looking at this lol i just keep thinking abt how i’ve alrdy grown this year ;_; i love the coloring lots here and i like to think i’ve improved a bit!! i’ve also noticed it’s easier for me to really draw what i see even if i’m not perfect at it yet. also noticed how much i am of a slag for blue over this year but is any one surprised :eyeroll:!! also i love jaime here and while drawing him i was seriously considering just running off in the woods and becoming a furry artist. seriously if anyone wants to pay me i will do it. alas, i think no furries follow me

this was v fun. and i like the coloring here too. i think i’m just repeating myself here but like??? how do people do this in art shows??? ok i just like it. ngl i think my ‘favorites’ are based on sentimentality there is no rhyme or reason

5) this stupid fucking comic

this took 100 years from my life and was thoroughly irritating. i really do prefer to do like just paintings rather than comics bc i think you can see how tired i got of it mid way thru-- but i do think drawing this much did make me get better. i really do like the starting panel, i still think it’s pretty, but for the rest i’m a bit :< about. you might be asking why i added this if i’m frustrated abt it but the rest of my stuff i feel a bit mmh about (probably because i did it very quickly! at this at least taught me something-- no pain no gain right??)

i doubt anyone read through all this but this blog is about ME! and i’m extremely shallow (/s). but i think doing this did make me feel a bit better about all the shit i made because i remember when i was 13 i always wanted to make shit for my fandoms and stuff but wouldn’t so. i kind of am living what i want to do now...??? (i’m saying this like it’s a goal and it made me laugh irl bc it’s so tiny but like. i really am proud of myself for doing something this year ok.)

hi hi! so starting under the cut (also tw for flashing gif ahead)

the way i often do gifs like this is the lazy way bc i don’t have the time to create exactly the number of layers as i want to have frames and yadda yadda like you would if you work with checking a lot of layers to appear together with different opacity in a frame. i just use all the layers i need and check them for particular frame, and visiblity and opacity change from frame to frame, but this is not that important in this case bc i only did it once, ya’ll see what i mean later lmao

okay starting i had two the of the same shots, the pics were edited before making the gif ofc

one with june on the bed and another of just the bedi duplicated the first pic 2 times so i had 3 the same pics to work on

to first pic i aplied a fill layer by going: layer>new fill layer>solid color and chose dark red, set it to darken and flipped the pic vertically.

to this one i applied two glitch textures (i got mine from random pack from tumblr i think, but you can find a lot on google or resource blogs on tumblr) first set to overlay and another to color dodge 30% opacity

then i put all the picture as another layers on the base pic so i had something like this:

then select all the layers and on the timeline bar click the little drop down menu on top right and click “make frames from layers”

you should have something like this

then i duplicated the first frame 3 times you can do it by clicking the little square with a folded corner next to the trash bin or by clicking the fading dots it will give you a pop up like this:

this is how my timeline looked like after. then i duplicated the last frame (7th) twice and moved the added frames to go after the 4th frame so it looked like this:

then i duplicated the 8th frame once so i had two the same frames that had the glitch texture on and moved them after 6th frame:

then i duplicated the 9th frame once, after that i duplicated 11th frame once as well:

then i duplicated frame 10 3 times and put it at the end of the timeline:

then click on frame 12 and in the layers tab i checked the eye icon on the pic with the empty bed and put that layer above the layer with the color fill and set the opacity to around 40% so it looked like this:

then selected all the frames and right clicked on the time and set it to 0,06, after that save by going: file>save for web>set looping options to forever and voilàyou have a glitch gif

So! This is actually posted for use on BobaBoard but because I didn't want to bog the site down with my image uploads I went "I'll bog down Tumblr's instead!" This is also the softest deanon because this account isn't really linked to any of my other ones I think lol. Anyways, here's an unboxing and mini review of the Onyx Boox Poke 3 Special Edition!

Fun fact - I ordered on a Friday and it was delivered the Thursday after (so a bit under a week), which seems like a pretty good turnaround. If I had finalized which product I wanted a week in advance I wouldn't have had to wait

I didn't get to play around and open until today but here we go!

It’s really light! Like, super duper, as heavy as my tablet is. This is the box. So if the box feels that good I’m excited for the actual device.

All right, the moment of truth!

Very sleek. Although lbh, they could have reduced the box size easily if they just put the cord under the poke.

That’s all in the box! I’m really liking the cover - one part, it’s already on the device when I get it, one part, I really like the logo and the feel of it.

Size wise, the Poke is tiny. Like, this will fit in all but two of my purses tiny (not “will fit into my pockets” small but female-aimed pants can barely fit a phone so).

Here’s some comparison pics with the Poke vs various things.

Versus my phone! I have a Galaxy Fold Flip 3 - and my phone is taller than it by a good... half inch I think? I generally read on my phone for just about everything cause I’m on the move but this will be a very glad change.

Versus my Tablet (Samsung Tab A7 Lite)! It’s significantly smaller and lighter than it. The Tab is my general go to for watching anime and reading manga when I’m home.

Versus both my Tab A7 LIte and my Surface. It’s tiny! I’m very glad I didn’t go with the Inkpalm or Hisense.

It’s smaller than my unf#ck books from microcosm and just a tiny bit bigger than jp light novels which is really nice! perfect size!

Turn on time! So out the box it looks like it has 93% charge, a great amount for me to configure without worrying. I picked up the Poke, in part, because it uses USB-C so I have one charger for as many devices as possible (phone, headphones, switch, tab). If I don't have to carry around a micro USB cord I would be a happy person lmao.

Boot times! One complaint I've seen online about the Poke (and boox products in general) is the long wait compared to the Kindle. It isn’t instant but turning it on for the first time took about 30 seconds which was still quite a bit faster than my tablet so not a huge issue.

Out of the box, about 28% of the memory is in use which covers all the preinstalled apps (they seem to be able to be uninstalled which is great!) and all the fiddly bits. Not having an SD card slot sucks but that means that I just can’t save everything onto it. Was playing around with their built in epub reader and they worked pretty well.

I’m still in the midst of getting all my ebooks ready but i’ve stripped my massive kindle and google play store libraries and saved as many as i could as epubs so I only deal with one DRM hell, downloaded a lot of humble bundle books I got (mix of pdfs and epubs), and saved a lot of ao3 and ffn fics. Supposedly I can sync it with their own boox app but again, horror stories. I plan to just plug it in and sideload it that way.

But that is later me’s problem - the whole point of getting an android eink device is bookwalker! It took a bit to get it downloaded (i’m being lazy and i dont want to get the whole google play store on it so i had to download the apk directly from bw’s site). Logging in didn’t take too long although opening the app is slower than i’d like but testing it, it works great for both light novels (downgliding fonts took FOREVER, way longer than getting books on there) and manga (a bit small but usable). Messing around with that kind of killed my battery (it jumped to the mid 80s) but considering i have wifi on and am downloading a BUNCH of stuff, it makes sense. I see a little bit of ghosting while reading while on A2 mode but changing to a different refresh mode fixed that up.

But yeah, long load times to open the app and then a bit of a load time when opening the book.

Worse case scenario, once i get all my ebooks on the device, i can always use bookwalker as a reader but i’ll be looking into common reader apps.

But that’s my little unboxing review

Hello! So since someone asked me to make a tutorial on how i colored this set, i decided to make a full post about how to use curves to change/balance your colors.

Ok, this is the original video from the set and if you see i has a very ugly and pale blue lighting that doesn’t help us at all when we try to gif it.

this is how the gif looks without any coloring:

and this is what it looks with curves + selective color:

way better, right? Thing with curves is that you can use it for literally anything you want. To me, it works way better as a way to balance colors than the color balance adjustment ever would lmao

I’ll be using another video from the same teasers but this time Minghao’s instead of Jun’s. Here’s the gif before anything:

OK SO, you basically wanna find a source of light + a source of darkness on your gif/pic. I’ll be using the very edge of his shirt + one of the dark spots on his jacket. Why can’t i use that bright light on the corner? Cause it’s already white. By using the dropper curves you’ll make the area you click white or black and then make everything else lighter/darker in the opposite hue as you selected. So if it is blue, it’ll turn red. If it’s yellow, it’ll turn purple and etc.

So first i’ll be adjusting the white. Make a curves layer and then select the white dropper thingy. Use the dropper to click on the edge of the shirt (or the brightest color on your gif/photo that isn’t completely white). You’ll probably need a few tries to test it out and get it right since all pixels have different hues and one might be darker than the other. Ctrl + z is your best friend like always

Then i’ll make another Curves layer and select the black dropper. Use it on the darkest color that isn’t black. In my case, i used it on Minghao’s jacket.

Here’s the gif after both Curves layers:

After that i played with the reds on Selective Color and added another Curves layer just to make the gif a little bit lighter:

And here’s the gif after all of this. I didn’t make any other adjustment layer

And comparing before and after:

Here’s the psd if you wanna download it! It’s very basic but i guess it’ll work with most blue videos? You might need to make another layer or two or then edit stuff on selective color, but i guess it’ll be fine. At least for all the Seventeen Project teasers i KNOW it works. Here’s two other examples with the exact same psd i made for Minghao:

I don’t really have any examples to show here (cause i’m lazy) but Curves are also the greatest way to make a dark scene brighter without losing quality!! Just use the white dropper on the brightest color and it’ll work just fine!

Sorry if i sounded confusing and sorry for the big gifs but i was too lazy to fix them lmao if you have any other questions always feel free to ask me and i’ll try my best to help!!

how do you make poses for the roof? i'm not sure how i can know if the sims will clip into the roof or float

honestly i just...eyeball it...because all roofs are different and you can’t put them into blender so. i just winged it lmao...i just made a pose that looked like it could’ve been lou climbing out the window, only the rig was still ground level, and then i used alt + 9 to lift the teleporter onto the roof as best as i could. that’s why it probably wouldn’t be a very practical pose to release, because i have no way of making it easy to use

i don’t know if i’ll be able to replicate the reshade effect totally but i could release the action i’ve made for myself? it warms up screenshots but is totally adjustable to your liking for different color tones so in that way it’s kinda similar to the reshade. i’ll seeeeee what i can do...i know the woes of mac users all too well, my friend

Some of you might already know what I look like (I’m not encouraging you going to my Facebook for pics, having seen me irl may get in the way of you perceiving this semi-RP blog as I intend it to be, but curiosity is the right of all sentient beings so it’s up to you) and it’s even surprising why I relate so much to Red and not Chuck (it really is because I’m introverted and world-weary and take too much upon myself, but this all is for later ‘cos for a limited time those qualities have flocked off into the back of my brain and I wanna enjoy being less self-conscious while I can). It’s annoying though to deal with a bunch of thoughts buzzing around my head like a bunch of flies and having to catch them to lay ‘em down on the page. And having fidgety fingers when they’re not typing (and having to retype the parts my brain found a better wording for right after I’ve typed ‘em down). But this state of mind is important to document for later references, because my brain isn’t always so generous, so I’ll leave all this mess as is, minus the typos (my keyboard is comfy but kinda old so the keys are not as pliable as they used to be). Oh bling, I’ve got SO off topic.

The point is, when you perform so many actions without slowing down to consider them, you become desensitized to your own actions. Being everywhere all at once mashes the experiences into one big jumble and it’s just... kinda there. You’d have to unravel it afterwards when you have a contemplative mood. (Uh, the keyboard annoys me so much more than usual, it’s the digital analog of trying to say a lot of things that are on your mind, they might even be aligned into the perfect sequence, but that clumsy meat tentacle in your mouth a.k.a. the tongue just can’t keep up). When you admire someone very much and you’re sooo full of feelings you just wanna touch ‘em everywhere at once, because they’ve got so many features worth of attention, and it isn’t enough to just look (like, would you be content to just look at a cake? It may be a work of culinary art, but that’s not what cakes are for, you get the meaning?) but imagine if you actually do it: the receiving party would feel as if they’ve been poked all over with a finger, like I do sometimes to my friend who likes touches but I’m in the mood for silly things so I just poke their chest with a finger, probably also sticking my tongue out ‘cos I’m like that, maybe it’s a new and innovative way of gesturing, I often do that after a joke or a sarcastic remark to show that I’m not serious (subconsciously, I don’t try to control everything I do when I’m in a comfortable environment, that’d be an extra waste of my already precious energy).

Anyways. My friend knows that I’m like that, but a new person I’ve just met - doesn’t. So all the things I do jokingly-affectionately to my friend would annoy that person and make ‘em think I’m really weird. But it’s a matter of habit too, excitement makes people lose their grip on themselves and (in my case) get very loud and intense without even noticing it - or, in Chuck’s case, get too carried away touching that new bird he really likes and showing off his cool moves (perfectly natural for a male bird, I’ve read people even use this behavior to determine the sex of some non-dimorphic birds: you put a bird in a cage by itself and after a while get another bird in there, if the first bird starts to show off to the newcomer it’s male, even though the newcomer can be male as well). Aaand... I lost my thread of thought. It feels exhausting to have this many buzzing thoughts, and I wouldn’t even be thinking in words and sentences if I didn’t need to type them out. Back when I was trying to take a nap the thoughts were like multiple background voices, and the ones I focused on sounded louder than the rest of ‘em. All the things that could be visually imagined were pictures and movements. Uuhh my brain is so tired.

Last important notice: when they touch you, at their own initiative, it feels much more meaningful than a hundred of your own touches. You’ve devalued your own actions, at least in your own perception, they’re a dime a dozen. They’ve probably zoned you out at this point, voice and gestures and all (who? the girl reading this lmao, the person whose attention you want). Because they operate on another time scale (at least their brain does) or they’re always in that chill sniffing-flowers mode, or they’re so introverted they gotta recharge after any interaction with you ‘cos you’re so disproportionally intense they need a breather after every dang story you tell (especially if you swerve a lot because your brain brings up so many associations, like I’m doing constantly in this post). So you’re annoying to them, but you still wanna earn their attention and you ain’t very patient, so you do even more ridiculous loud things and get stuck in this vicious circle of getting zoned out, further and further, it may even become a habit for the person you’re annoying (but at least that introverted birdie is getting used to touches, so that’s getting somewhere, sadly at the expense of your chances to earn appreciation, which is what you’ve wanted in the first place).

Got off road again. Let’s say they’ve had time to analyze your behavior and their own reactions and now they’re making a conscious effort to accept you. Say, you’ve invaded their personal space for a hundredth time and... they wrap their arm around you. Time stops. You can hear galaxies spin ‘round each other, yadda yadda, all the bombastic tropes to show how meaningful it is. You don’t even wanna move. Your perception turns to their breathing, their heart beating, that look you’ve never seen in their eyes - or never stopped to notice, too caught up in a mix of your own stupid shenanigans and lamenting how cruel your fate is, how inconsiderate they are not noticing your efforts... well now they have, and you gotta make sure this moment's as pleasant for them as it is for you, so they'd want more of it and more often. Make use of each other’s basic pleasure-seeking instincts to reinforce this behavior (ain’t we all just animals with too many complications?) Relationships take effort on both sides, especially trying to see things from another’s perspective. Now I’ve done it and I’m so worn out my unfinished nap is gonna take me :3

P.S. pardon any typos, I’m really not in the mood to edit, and it would ruin the integrity of this state of mind (yeah I’m justifying my laziness, so what, how many people are gonna read this magnum opus anyway?)
