Rio 2011 could have been such a good disability narrative!! instead of having Blu’s inability to fly somehow go away at the end, his friends could have continued to find accessible ways for him to get around, and accept that him not being able to fly isnt about “not trying enough” - he just cant! and thats okay

3 days to go until the big day! June 11th, 2022 is the day of release back into their natural habitat for the Spix's macaws (Cyanopsitta spixii) who are currently at the Spix's Macaw Release Center in Brazil. I can't even explain how excited I am, this is incredible! This was originally scheduled for 2021, but because of the pandemic, it had to be postponed. Now, they're preparing to release Spix's back into their wild home in the Brazilian Caatinga! Spix's macaws have been considered extinct in the wild since 2000, the last wild bird being spotted in northeastern Bahia, Brazil.

TYLER "BLU" GUNDERSON from RIO

JUSTIFICATION:

"I cannot explain this in a way that makes sense but Rio is like a trans metaphor to me. Among other things, the plot of rio is essentially about self discovery. Over the course of the film Blu is very anxious and unsure and I think that if she was able to transition she would become more confident in herself. Adding onto this there’s a subplot to Rio that Blu and Jewel (her love interest) are the only two of their species left and the humans are trying to get them to mate. Despite the fact that Blu and Jewel have nothing in common this pressure for Blu to disregard her own feelings and wellbeing for the sake of having children with Jewel is prevalent. In the second movie they do have children and after realizing that Jewel’s flock may still be alive, they all go on a trip to try and find the other macaws and do so successfully. This is frustrating and upsetting for Blu because she still doesn’t truly know how to be herself, not only in the terms of her gender and role in her family, but as a bird as well and she lashes out at her family. I just think if Blu came out and transitioned and got a divorce but maintained a healthy platonic co parenting relationship with Jewel she could truly discover herself." - @endlessdemento

I can't stop thinking about a universe were they make peace before the movie. And toddler Daniel forcing the seekers to watch Rio.

Because birdies, obviously.

Skywarp:

would absolutely love the movie

got really excited during the escape the plane scene

Definitely did not cry during multiple scenes

Got upset every time a song was interrupted

Scared of the bulldog character

Traumatized by the cockatoo being a cannibal

Thundercracker:

would really like the movie too but would be less expressive of it,

would be really into storytelling aspect of it

thought the whole Carnival aspect was pretty cool

Fucking hated the cockatoo it reminds him of someone

Starscream:

actually really enjoyed the movie but would never tell anyone that

was tense during the blizzard scene

Traumatized by the end of "Real in Rio" song.

Accidentally verbalized this excitement at the plane Escape scene

Was secretly jealous of the bird couples

Laughed when the cockatoo got hit by the plane

All:

The Smuggler's made them uncomfortable

Resonated with the fear of being flightless

Thought the birds dancing with their wings was pretty

Got upset at the birds in the cages

Flinched with Jewel got her Wing Crushed

Cheered when blue learned how to fly, all but Skywarp denied this
