This month, @jredwardstextiles is celebrating women's empowerment with a few custom prints releasing every Thursday! I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to guest strike for them and this is my first bag to bring to tonight's release. This print, inspired by the riot grrrl movement, was designed to look like a punk rock concert poster. Paired with holographic diamond stars in hot pink from @the_zip_pah_stop and the ever present vinyl from @marinevinyl on the fabulous Aster handbag from @bluecallapatterns, this bag is sure to turn heads! 🤩 Join their Facebook group tonight to grab some of this and the other amazing print and coordinating vinyl available this weekend! The first set of fabrics sold out in 30 minutes and became a surprise pre-order last week! 😮 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cha4masOV2W/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Women in Jazz, By the Numbers
Of course, there have been women in jazz forever. But as we've been highlighting for years, the times, they truly are a-changin'. The easy, low cost technologies that have made recording more small-d democratic, have not only led to an explosion in self directed sessions, but the ability of quality –from anyone, not just gatekeeper approved– to rise to the top.
Tumblr media
As noted by the NPR Jazz Critics Poll, after over a decade of stasis, the number of women led (or co-led) top quality recordings has made a giant leap of almost 100%. Of course, we're expecting (or hoping) more women will eventually fill vital roles as side women too. Riot grrrls indeed!

TRASHFOX MONTAGE. Today we celebrate one year of Riot Grrrl being in our live and take a look at the joy she has wrought thus far. The first two photos are when we picked her up from the airport (she was adopted from La Reunion), and clearly I am out of my mind in love with her already. If you’re looking for a trashfox of your own, I highly recommend @asso.vivrelibre (via facebook) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8dSwvlIurv/?igshid=1def1q3tyipju

On today's episode I talk to Katherine Paul of Black Belt Eagle Scout. KP grew up in a small Indian reservation, the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community. From an early age, she was singing and dancing at powwows including her family’s own powwow, called the All My Relations Powwow. In 2007, KP moved to Portland, OR, to attend college and get involved with the Rock’n’Roll Camp for Girls. Inspired by the Riot Grrrl movement, KP dove deep into the Portland music scene, playing guitar and drums in a bunch of bands while evolving her artistry into what would later be Black Belt Eagle Scout. She released a self-titled EP in 2014, and her first full-length album Mother of My Children was just released by Saddle Creek earlier this fall.
I'm on Twitter here and you can get the show with:

[ad_1] Olivia Rodrigo's punk-rock era is alive and well. After grabbing dinner with Conan Gray at Carbone in New York City on May 1, the "Good 4 U" singer stepped out of the restaurant in a sheer, chain-mail minidress layered over a black bralette and matching briefs. Betraying no sense of cold in the see-through ensemble, Rodrigo strutted past the paparazzi with a smile in a pair of black velvet Mary Jane platforms. Rodrigo's dress also featured two sky-high leg slits on either side of her thighs. She styled the outfit with a spiked choker necklace in silver, a matching bracelet, asymmetrical heart drop earrings, and multiple rings — a little sour, a little sweet, and undeniably edgy. When it came to hair, she traded her standard lengthy waves for a straighter look that easily could've passed as a choppy lob from the front. From the back, the layers flowed all the way down to her lower back. In true riot-grrrl-inspired fashion, Rodrigo kept her eye makeup dark, rocking razor-sharp, double-winged eyeliner; silver eyeshadow; thick mascara; a neutral pink lip; and a black manicure. Recently, the "Drivers License" singer hit the Grammys stage in a '90s-inspired runway dress by Givenchy, complete with a white ruffled skirt and black fishnet tights. Earlier in the evening, she walked the red carpet in a black Vivienne Westwood dress with pink illusion beading that mirrored her silhouette. The same night, Rodrigo played up the sweet side of her "Sour" aesthetic in a custom Blumarine butterfly dress at her Grammys afterparty. Every moment of Rodrigo's "Sour" era has been worthy of a double take, and this chain-mail look is absolutely going in our 2022 style scrapbook. Take a look at Rodrigo's sheer minidress from all angles here. window.fbAsyncInit = function() FB.init( appId : '175338224756', status : true, // check login status xfbml : true, // parse XFBML version : 'v8.0' ); ONSUGAR.Event.fire('fb:loaded'); ; // Load the SDK Asynchronously (function(d) var id = 'facebook-jssdk'; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; if (typeof scriptsList !== "undefined") scriptsList.push('src': 'https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js', 'attrs': 'id':id, 'async': true); (document)); [ad_2] Source link
