I got asked for the comm immediately after finishing the one of Caitlin's sona. Penny didn't have any particular vision for the art beyond featuring the newly-made design, luckily I happened to know just the thing to do

I asked for some funny exchanges the two had that I could make art out of, I also asked for some avatar I could depict her as, which she suggested a toadette with glasses

she sent me a buncha screenshots of really good moments, the one I chose was from a comment left in her steam profile, which painted a picture of being interrupted in the middle of a game. I asked for ideas for what game that could be and got a single, extremely good one

[Review] Hello Kitty Roller Rescue (PS2)

Pretty decent for a baby game for babies.

Now scraping the barrel of "Jet Set Radio-likes" I came across this action game where you build your crew and fight cops while on roller skates... ok, it's a stretch. This is supposedly Hello Kitty's first 3D videogame and while I wasn't expecting much, it turned out more involved and engaging than Dora the Explorer Saves the Mermaids. Probably just aimed at a slightly older audience, I guess.

Having villains at all isn't something I'm used to in Hello Kitty but here, blocky aliens are invading Earth (as in, their bodies are geometric blocks) and they hope to turn the planet and its inhabitants into cubes. Some of them have riot shields, hence the cop comparison. Kitty becomes a magical girl superhero to fight back, much like the Roller Angels. This involves a shiny suit, a magic wand for pummelling, and some roller skates. The latter affect her movement only slightly, so it mostly just feels like a pretty normal brawler with some light platforming and interaction.

Kitty's combat moveset is a bit more complex than you'd expect. She's got two triple hit-combos with different effects, different air attack range depending if you've double jumped, a special attack meter with two layers, she can pick up and throw things sometimes, there's even a dodge move! In the game's short 16-level runtime the enemy types and level objectives are varied enough that I, a grown adult, didn't get bored. Memorable moments include the frozen factory, amusement park obstacle course, and for some reason, a car park. The bosses aren't bad either.

Along the way you'll be rescuing other members of the Sanrio family. Some like Melody the rabbit, Monkichi the monkey, or Runabouts the... talking car will join you on certain levels as an AI partner, with unique attacks. They can also be permanently levelled up by finding collectibles in levels. Badtz-Maru is featured heavily but can't actually be used in gameplay until you clear the game once, at which point he's an alternative to playing as Kitty. Between levels you're plonked in Kitty's house where her direct family show you unlocks and such.

As with any self-respecting character action game, you're graded on your performance. Apparently getting all S ranks unlocks a particular costume, but I only achieved one or two of these. Otherwise there's plenty of costumes you'll get by playing normally, and you can use money collected in levels to buy music, cinematics, and character profiles. Did you ever want to know what Mimmy's birthday is? Well it's the same as Kitty's, since they're twins. Speaking of which, apparently there's special seasonal loading screens including a November variant for said birthday.

My low expectations meant that I was pretty impressed by this game. It was a pretty chill way to spend an afternoon and had some fun ideas at times. The final boss was actually pretty cool, with you stalling a giant mech's path of destruction with fruit cannons to buy time for Keroppi's megalaser to charge. Sure it's a kids' game, but you could do worse than Hello Kitty Roller Rescue; I've certainly played worse before. All it needs to be truly great is a spot of vandalism and some funky beats... say, there's an idea...

So... it seems I accidentally deleted an ask rather than answering it. To whoever asked "is it okay to visit SeaWorld? Does the money go to giving the orcas good care?"... here is your answer!

The SeaWorld parks, as well as Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, and a few others, are operated by the recently renamed United Parks and Entertainment, a for-profit theme park company. Like any other corporation, their first goal is to remain profitable. Obviously, a large portion of that goes to corporate leadership and shareholders. But that's far from unique to United, or theme parks in general. It's a byproduct of the greedy world we live in. If you're willing to buy a ticket to Disney or Six Flags, then buying a ticket to a SeaWorld or Busch Gardens is no more immoral.

According to the AZA, approximately 46% of their members are for-profit. And while AZA zoos certainly vary in quality (anywhere from "acceptable" to "exceptional" in my opinion), for-profit status does not cheapen or detract from the work they do. In fact, for-profit institutions often have more financial freedom for animal care and conservation efforts than their non-profit counterparts. Non-profit zoos and aquariums are wonderful places, but believe me when I say there's a startling amount of politics in every aspect of their management. Non-profit status does not automatically make a zoo better, and for-profit status does not automatically make a zoo worse.

Now... do SeaWorld ticket sales go toward giving their orcas (and other animals) good care? Yes.

While it's certainly simplistic for parks to claim, as they do, "just by buying a ticket today you're helping save animals in the wild!"... it's not exactly a lie. Being for-profit, SeaWorld doesn't ask for donations to fund park operations or outreach endeavours. That revenue is generated by selling tickets, merchandise, food, etc. The same goes for their wildlife rescue and rehab program, Rising Tide conservation program, Coral Rescue Center, and the SeaWorld-Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, as well as partner organizations like OCEARCH and the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute.

Take ticket sales away, and they can't care for their animals, or continue to fund conservation projects. While I don't know the whole story of what exactly is going on with Marineland Antibes, it appears that the park is in a dire financial situation due to plummeting attendance, to the point that they can no longer maintain their killer whale habitat and are trying to offload their animals onto an Asian aquarium or, potentially, an as-of-yet non-existent third party sea pen. While certainly well-meaning, years of boycotts against Marineland ultimately put their animals in a position where they are not being properly cared for. And it would be horrifying if the same thing happened to SeaWorld. I don't think many people, in their fervor to punish the parks for their perceived misdeeds and save the animals, thought about what the reality of driving a zoological facility into financial ruin would look like.

Don't get me wrong, SeaWorld's shift toward promoting itself as a thrill park that also does conservation rather than a marine facility that happens to have roller coasters annoys me. I would have rather they built a separate, neighboring park for the rides, or at least integrated them into the existing park less obtrusively (Disney's Animal Kingdom, for example, seemlessly integrates the theme park and zoo elements, although they have the benefit of the incredibly talented Imagineering team behind them). But as tiresome as the constant roller coaster announcements are, they are what kept the company afloat financially in the years immediately following Blackfish, drawing in a crowd that previously had no interest in the parks, and for that I'm grateful. Thankfully, SeaWorld is in a better spot nowadays. But the only way to convince them that their animals, not their roller coasters, are what people want to see... is to visit and see the animals.

In short, yes, part of your SeaWorld ticket funds care for their orcas and their many admirable projects. Now if only more of it went to giving their staff better salaries.

Blue Is Not Your Colour by Shienkha (competed)

It is rare to see Husk as deeply flawed, an addict to his poison (gambling) as much as Angel to sex. Both fell victims to their addiction, ultimately ruined their chance at happiness. In the end, Husk lost his soul to Alastor and Angel went back to Valentino. Husk realized only then that he loved Angel. The two finally reunited at the Hazbin Hotel, connecting the story to the canon.

“And a spade,” he whispered to himself as he headed out, slipping the ring to his chest pocket, “to symbolise how far I would have gone for you.”

As far as it would have taken to keep you happy.

Or, in the absence of it…

This is absolutely the best fic in my opinion.

Husk put Angel in therapy with Charlie. Angel didn't appreciate Husk making decision for him and concealing his status as the Gambling Overlord. Angel was wooed by a charismatic lion who was hired by Vox to kidnap him. Husk came to the rescue. Angel and Husk, following their language roller coaster confession of love, signed a new contract which shared Husk's soul and all souls he owned with Angel. Angel became a new overlord with intriguing powers :)))

Angel begged Husk to play a game with Valentino for his soul. Husk not only won Angel's soul, he also put a ring on his finger to safeguard his Overlord image. I look forward to see how their marriage of convenience progresses :)))

As a couple of Catholic DINKs, would they ever have some sort of pet instead of children? I know so many small animals living the life of luxury bc their owners have two incomes and one furry little guy needing more attention and treats. I imagine Machete isn't keen on pets, but he'd have to handle something like messanger birds on occasion so I can easily picture him muttering under his breath hopelessly trying to control a fat pigeon or dove to attach a message to its leg. The birdies just stick their leg out politely for Vasco much to Machete's disbelief.

In modern au, possibly, even likely. Someone suggested earlier that they could eventually adopt some sort of objectively pathetic scraggly beast of a rescue cat and I thought that was a neat idea, I can see them getting along with a cat just fine (the need for lint rollers just keeps ramping up).

In original canon they don't live together. They both might have their own messenger pigeons (and perhaps exchange them with each other to establish a 16th century equivalent of DMs) but I'm not sure if I'd call those pets per se. Vasco has his horses and he's also into falconry, so he keeps several birds of prey at his home estate near Florence.
