4: slushpuppy (weiss/marrow) listen a good ship name goes a long way in making me like a couple and while weiss has some... problems... shes still one of the more emotionally mature characters in the show with nuance. im picturing very much a bodyguard au 😍

t stand not to2:  What is your character’s favorite memory?

Probably when he stole Jumpy from her previous owner. It was a wild chase and he enjoyed every part of it. Especially when Jumpy jumped over the canyon and actually made it to the other side. At first Thoernen thought, they were a goner.

3:  What is your character’s least favorite memory?

Getting nagged by Caithe and the Pale Tree to complete his Wyld Hunt. More specifically the day he got so upset he started to yell with the Avatar in the Omphalos chamber. He feels ashamed of it… Especially now that he completed his Wyld Hunt after all.

4:  Does anyone have a crush on your character? Is your character aware of this?

Dau has a huge crush on him. So huge they ended up together. So yes, Thoernen knows about it.

11:  How did your character meet their best friend?

It depends who do you see as a best friend. He would say it’s Jumpy, his raptor and he met her by stealing her from her previous owner. If you don’t count animal friends then I guess it would be Trahearne and Canach. He met Trahearne in The Grove, Caithe asked him to try to nag Thoernen too to join the fight against the dragons. Trahearne was a little bit more understanding than Caithe though so he tried from time to time but haven’t nagged him like Caithe, instead tried to say something encouraging. With Canach he met in Divinity’s Reach while he was on a party, hunting for good things to steal from the nobles there. Canach stood out like a sore thumb, and he couldn’t stand not to pick a bone with him.

16:  What other fictional characters remind you of your character?

Uhhhhh…That’s a hard one… Kaminari from BNHA, Cu Chulainn from Fate series, Crow Branwen from RWBY, Grimmjow from Bleach, King from Nanatsu no Taizai, Prompto from ffxv…these pop in mind atm

Honest thoughts on the wake of ep 8&9:

This going to be another long post (so sorry) I think at this point, it’s easy to already see the strengths and weaknesses of volume 5 thus far. Now I admit that it is a subject done to death that the show is not the same with Monty not around.

However. I will keep that argument as minimal as I could because of how much fans are aware of the stark difference between the Monty volumes and post-Monty volumes. (I already made a long post about it here)

It’s rather obvious that people do notice the change in the fight choreography, but thus far, episode 8&9 have been rather... bad, to be honest. It was awkward to watch.

The strength of the post Monty era is really the dialogue. I am one of those who enjoyed the lore and dialogue scenes. However, the imbalance of this show was the struggled to transition from dialogue to action. Now, yes Monty did have the style and the vision that enabled the series to have a smooth transition from scene to scene. But people tend to forget these facts:

Monty is the one with the vision; Kerry and Miles are just writers.

We’ll start with number 1: Because volumes 1-3 were shorter, there technically wasn’t a lot of plot to work with. I mean, I remembered how when I first watched the show (on its weekly release) I was too impatient of “too much dialogue and so little transition of plot” because of the idea that it took the entire 12 weeks for actual story progression to happen. (yeah, I was a brat at the time so I didn’t know a lot). the fact that volume 1-3 was shorter also meant shorter gaps between action and dialogue. I remembered complaining to my brother at the time how much the dialogue was lacking due to how short the episodes were. However, with volumes 4 and 5, we have longer episodes, so it brought more focus to the plot's lore and dialogue. But longer episodes meant taking more time to build up before the action happens.

Number 2: The script has always been the same since volume 1. The story has always been the same, and the dialogue has always been the same. What makes the Monty volumes different from the post-Monty volumes were the direction and storyboard of each scene and episode. I don't know if it was just me, but I've always thought that there were a lot of awkward moments in rwby since volume 1 in terms of dialogue. The Jaundice and Forever Falls arcs were one of those moments. The finale of volume 2 ironically felt like it lagged for too long, along with other short moments in volumes 2&3. The script has always been the same but due to the length of the earlier volumes, it was easily overlooked. So, if that is the case, then why is volume 4&5 so different? Well, this brings me to my 3rd point.

Number 3: Monty is the one with the Vision, whilst Kerry and Miles are just writers. Yes, Monty conceived the idea for RWBY. Yes, he started this show. But Miles and Kerry wrote the script for the show since volume 1. Now, when I say Monty is the one with the vision, I’m talking about his vision as an animator. He knows how to direct scenes because he can “see” how the scene will play out. Because he is an animator, it is easier for him to make that vision into a reality. Miles and Kerry, on the other hand, are not animators. They're writers whose vision solely focuses on the dialogue, lore and story and set up. And, just like what many writers do, their speciality is solely based on dialogue and exposition. You can't really expect them to have the same level of vision that Monty has because they are more focused on the story than the visuals.  Not to mention, that because Miles and Kerry are writers and not familiar with the animation aspect, just like a lot of authors, exposition and dialogue are the really what they are better at. So, it's not surprising that volume 5 especially has been more focused on dialogue and exposition. When Monty passed, the bare bones have been exposed before the fans.

Now that I’ve put this out, I’m going to address the one issue that has become prominent in this show: pacing.

Remember when I said that dialogue hasn’t changed? Dialogue; exposition; these things were great, but the pacing is what the issue was. I mean, yes, the choreography of action scenes of v5 ep8&9 were bad, but, the pacing is what suffered the most. Longer episodes mean more time to lay out the cards of exposition. But, it is also because the episodes are longer, the cut to the action sequences are what suffered. Lengthy episodes of dialogue and exposition are okay, but if you have lengthy episodes of dialogue and exposition for more than 5-7 episodes, that’s where you’re going to lose a lot of viewers. Timing is a crucial aspect of writing an ongoing series. I remembered when I read bleach, every duel fighting scenes on the latter half of the series just kept going on for almost 20 chapters to a point where I just gave up. I may have been one of the few fans who enjoyed the dialogue and the exposition in the past couple of episodes, but I also hoped that episode 9 would have a well-choreographed fight between Emerald, Mercury and the bandits. Instead, I was, well, admittedly disappointed with this episode.

I mean, this is just my opinion, and I’m willing to stand aside and listen to what other people say otherwise about the show. Thoughts?

Solaris (RWBY AU Snippet)

Yang peered down at the verminous multitudes that covered the plain. The Grimm were deadly foes, not simply because of the raw might and power that their mightiest members wielded but also because of the sheer numbers they could call forth. More than one city had fallen beneath a tide of claws and teeth despite having more than capable defenders.

This city was in much the same sort of position. She could feel the rhythmic flare of magic as the city’s defenders tried to simultaneously reinforce their position and pelt the oncoming mass of Grimm with whatever offensive magic they could muster. Bolts of fire, lightning, ice, and even acid rained down on the horde, but the disparity in numbers was simply too much.

On the walls, the city’s guardsmen were locked in brutal melee combat as they fought to keep the Grimm from breaching the city. Larger Grimm, some the size of the titanic mammoths that roamed the frozen ends of the world, thundered into the walls. Cracks spread through the stone bulwark, and the city’s mages shifted their efforts to try to bring the beasts down before they could smash their way through.

Elsewhere, Grimm fliers fought the city’s ever-dwindling ranks of griffin, wyverns, and drake riders. Some of the Grimm were vaguely reptilian in shape whilst others looked more like gargoyles. What they lacked in tactics, they made up for in sheer ferocity. A wyvern riders might strike down three or four of them only to be brought down as a dozen more swarmed them.

Beneath her, Ember Celica gave a low, ominous rumble of barely contained fury. The dragon’s scales were no longer simply warm to the touch, they were burning hot. If Yang hadn’t been linked to the dragon as her rider, her armour would already have begun to melt as her flesh burned away. A dragon’s rage burned hot, and few dragons could match the fury of a solar dragon.

“Yeah.” Yang agreed, knowing what her dragon wanted to do before she’d even given voice to the desire. “Let’s do this.”

Beating her mighty wings, Ember Celica soared higher, her golden scales gleaming in the moonlight as her flight carried her through the thin, low-lying clouds. Surveying the battlefield one last time, both Yang and the dragon closed their eyes in something that was equal parts prayer and meditation.

The most famous dragons were those born of fire and ruin. Their scales were a the red of blood, and their flames burned as hot as the molten heart of the world.

However, there were also dragons born of light and spirit. Their scales were a radiant white, and their fire was a purifying blaze that seared all that was impure.

But every now and then, a dragon was born that was a combination of both, a dragon born with one parent of fire and ruin and another of light and spirit. Such dragons had scales of purest gold, and their flames were taken from the sun itself. 

Solar dragons.

To their friends and allies, their flames brought only warmth and healing. But to their enemies? Fire and ruin. It was the duality of the sun: a force that could nourish crops yet also leave empty deserts of bleached bone and cracked earth.

The sun-blessed were those who wielded fire and light as their magic. Yang’s father was one of them, and she had inherited her magic from him. For as long as she could remember, she had always felt the warmth of the sun within her. But as she’d grown older, that warmth had become a searing blaze that she could turn on her foes.

The moment that she’d met Ember Celica, she’d known that she and the dragon were meant for each other. The sun called to them both, and it bound them together. Like a raging inferno drawing strength from its own heat, they were stronger together than they ever would be apart.

“Oh crap.” Ruby looked up as Crescent Rose smashed another Grimm out of the air with her tail and then turned to incinerate several more with a blast of flame. “Yang and Ember Celica are going to cut loose.”

Weiss followed her gaze and paled. “Oh crap.” Beneath her, Myrtenaster winced and nodded in agreement.

A moment later, the shadows beneath one of the largest Grimm fliers split to reveal Gambol Shroud. The dragon disembowelled her foe with an almost bored expression before rolling over to toss the wounded Grimm toward the earth. On her back, Blake followed their gaze.

“Oh crap.”

Similar reactions were coming from the city and its defenders.

Above them all, the light of the moon was gone. In its place was a blazing orb of golden light that would have put even the sun to shame. It cast its blinding radiance across the battlefield, banishing the near twilight that had dominated ever since the sun had set.

But now a new sun had risen, and it was pissed off and out for blood.

There are many things that make solar dragons dangerous. Physically, they are amongst the most impressive of all dragons. They are large, even for dragons, and their claws and teeth are incredibly sharp. Their scales are largely impervious to physical and magical attack, and although they aren’t the most agile in the air, they can move with impressive speed despite their size.

But what makes solar dragons especially fearsome is their ability to store energy. Blessed by the sun itself, they can store the sun’s light within themselves and unleash it during battle. Given enough time and enough sunlight, there is almost not limit to the devastation they can unleash.

Rather than a blast of fire, what left Ember Celica’s mouth was closer to a beam of pure sunlight. It sliced down through the sky and struck the ground with a sound like every hammer in the world hitting home at the same time. The ground shook, the night trembled, and the world turned white.

The explosion ripped outward, a swiftly-expanding dome of sun-born devastation. The Grimm caught in its path were incinerated instantly, their bodies reduced to ash that was blasted away a split-second later. The strongest of their number managed to endure for a few moments before they too were swept away.

A savage smile crossed Yang’s lips.

“Let no enemy stand before the sun.”

And Ember Celica answered, replying with another ancient proverb. And let the sun’s light shine across all of Creation.

The blast continued to grow, a roiling, boiling cloud of light that was so bright that they were the only two who could stand to look at it directly. Yet despite the absolute carnage it wrought on the Grimm, their allies were unharmed. No soldier was burned. No mage was blinded. No defender of the city was so much as scratched.

This was the the power all solar dragons strove to achieve. This was the duality of the sun. This was a power that could crush their enemies without mercy or restraint yet never harm their allies.

And it was very, very tiring to use.

As the attack finally began to fade, Ember Celica’s wings faltered. The massive dragon shuddered, and Yang poured as much of her power as she could spare into her dragon to help her.

“Blake!” Yang barked. “Gambol Shroud!”

The shadow dragon and her rider rose up to meet them as Ember Celica began her descent. The solar dragon was definitely flagging now. Using so much of her own power plus her stored energy meant that she was struggling just to stay aloft.

Tendrils of shadows moved to help them, and Gambol Shroud’s efforts were soon aided by those of Myrtenaster. Elaborate circles of magic formed around Ember Celica, easing her burden and helping her glide gently to the ground as Crescent Rose circled, both her and Ruby keeping an eye out for any threats that might have survived.

As soon as Ember Celica touched the ground, the dragon took a deep, shuddering breath, and slumped onto her side.

I think I might have gone overboard.

Yang chuckled and patted her scales. Her own weariness was catching up to her, and she could feel the beginnings of a headache forming in the back of her skull. Yep. She’d probably spend the next couple of days resting to deal with magical exhaustion. On the upside, she was pretty confident they’d dealt with the Grimm.

“Totally worth it though, right?”

Ember Celica’s gaze swept over the Grimm-cleansed landscape. Although her golden scales were duller than usual, her toothy grin said it all. 

Yes.

Author’s Notes

Ember Celica is basically the big gun on their team. Admittedly, Gambol Shroud’s power is more flexible, Myrtenaster has a whole library of magic at her disposal, and there’s nothing in the air that can match Crescent Rose’s speed and agility, but when it comes to just raw, undiluted power, none of the others can match Ember Celica.

What makes her even more powerful is that she and Yang share overlapping forms of magic, which means that as rider and dragon, their powers reinforce each other. Ember Celica’s ability to store sunlight is one of the reason she’s often seen basking or lounging about in the sun, and its also why her scales tend to glow. The more energy she has stored, the brighter her scales will usually be. After expending that energy, her scales will be duller until she has absorbed more energy again.

In a direct confrontation, a fully-charged solar dragon is one of the most deadly things in the world. The only efficient way to deal with one is to evade and draw the battle out to get them to expend their stored energy because if you try to fight them head on, their durability is high enough to survive basically anything you throw at them and their damage output is so ridiculously high that you will be unlikely to live longer than a few seconds if they get their hands on you.

RWBY - Prompt 7

I got to write my guilty crack ship. Jaune Arc/Roman Torchwick, or according to the shipping spreadsheet; Smooth Criminal or Dapper Dancers. Proofread by @corrupted-spirit. Juane Arc/Roman Torchwick - Moodring Soulmates AU.

Roman kept his gaze focused on the name on his arm, the name had been rapidly changing colour as the night progressed. Not that he blamed his dear heart; if they were anywhere near Beacon then they had a front seat to Cinder’s plans.

The name had started out its usual nervous orange before suddenly shifting to a brighter, more panicked colour, tinged with angry red. From there it had shifted between those colours and darker, sorrowful blue.

Roman was fearing that the name would suddenly scorch him and bleach into a dead white colour.

He glanced up as the door to his cell opened, revealing Neo standing before him with his hat and weapon.

He grinned at his partner in crime, standing gracefully and exiting his cell. Now wasn’t the time to stare at the almost black-blue name marring his arm, he had work to do.

If all went well, then he would be able to escape Cinder’s notice in the chaos and resume his life before she had drawn him into her web. He was eager to return to his own work.

He and Neo would be able to hide from Cinder if they could get away; all she would have on them were the names on their arms.

Hopefully she wouldn’t bother to come after them at all and neither of their names would be hunted down to be used as leverage.

Perhaps when things died down he could finally meet his name; Jaune Arc. Even if his other didn’t want to be associated with a criminal, it might be nice to finally meet the troubled other-half of his soul.

Until then, it was time to perform.

Jaune hadn’t had time to even glance at his name during the Fall; too busy trying to keep himself and his team alive during the attack.

And then Pyrrha…

It was hours before he could think enough to unravel the binding around the name, looking it over vacantly.

The name had changed from the morose colour it had been for weeks to a stark bleach white.

He felt a nauseating swirl of emotions within his chest; a mixture of bone-deep desire and aching relief.

He had known for years who his name belonged to, had known that he was connected to a criminal mastermind since the time one of his sisters rushed into the family room to turn on the news channel.

It was disgraceful; an Arc being bound to a criminal. His partners had been furious.

Ever since learning who the man was, he had kept his name covered at all times. Especially after coming to Beacon.

Jaune didn’t have the time to mourn the criminal, not with everything that had happened.

Not that he deserved to mourn, he had been ashamed of the name for years.

He sighed heavily, dragging his hand over his face. He needing to find Ren and Nora, make sure they were ok.

The stark white letters caught his eye again, making him pause.

He swallowed heavily and covered the name again and stood from the floor.

He needed to check on Ren and Nora.

Technically yes, but that’s because I read fandomblind for review tags on FFN forums.

I’m not really reading much fanfic these days, and most of what I’m reading is either RWBY or One Piece.

15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?

I tend to ship odd things in a lot of my fandoms. It’s more rare for me to ship the big popular pairings in any fandom. (Skip Beat and Yuri on Ice are the only fandoms I can name off the top of my head where I ship THE popular pairing. I guess I could include Pet Shop of Horrors on the list but there are so few recurring characters in that series that if you don’t ship D/Leon you probably don’t ship anything in that fandom.)

20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?

I tend to ship weird things in a lot of my fandoms, so I’m not really surprised by much anymore.

But yeah, when my brain randomly decided that I ship Hazel with Salem when dude had only had literally 10 seconds of screen time, I was kind of going “brain, why? We don’t even know him yet.” (When RWBY v4e1 had just come out)

The one with the highest stats across the board (views/faves/alerts/reviews) on FFN is “Do You Know What Fanfiction Is?” 

My most-kudo’d fic on AO3 is “Speak Your Dark Pleasures to Me”. It has a 40-point lead on “Do You Know What Fanfiction Is?”

30. What inspires you to write?

Literally everything. Fandoms, music, internet posts, real life events, a random thing I saw lying on the ground, and so on and so forth.

35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?

Drabbles are my jam. Crack humor, horror, angst, fluff, I drabble literally all the things.

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

WORDCOUNT. omgggg, I have such trouble writing anything long! Also consistently updating multi-chaptered things is difficult because I have attention-span issues.

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

I honestly couldn’t tell ya. I love a lot of fanfics and I’m in a lot of different fandoms. I have a ton of stuff faved/bookmarked.

50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
