Do you have any thoughts or hot takes on unicorn overlord? I played a bit of the demo and was intrigued by the concept, but hoo boy is it clear that it's no 13 sentinels on the writing front (would love to be proven wrong)
Always been a fan of the studio, and was utterly blown away that they made something as earth shatteringly good as 13 sentinels, and I've been really curious about how they were going to follow it up
Oh excellent taste, 13 Sentinels is my personal favorite too, which is wild for how many absolute bangers they have released.
I have a few very disorganized thoughts on Unicorn Overlord, but they are a little limited with only the demo. First thing I noticed is some very clear inspiration from the PSP version of Tactics Ogre (borderline copied ui and menus in some places lmao), but I really like that game so it's all good. I think with this one Vanillaware hit the perfect balance between Dragon's Crown and Princess Crown for this game's artstyle (some of my favorite visual styles they have done) and as usual the visuals are absolutely stunning. Even the save menu had me stop and stare for a second. Kinda whatever on the music and story so far though (I am sure they will deliver on the music later.) While the combat early in the game isn't quite as engaging as 13 Sentinels, there is a high chance it will surpass it in the late game and I am really banking on that. It's at least more fun than GrimGrimoire. (Maybe that's the hot take, who knows? Apparently nobody else played it.)
So here's my potentially hot take. I am not a huge RTS guy, but the way this game handles movement and speed is so fun that I am overlooking damn near every issue with the other system mechanics that I might have (especially the goofy ass controls). When you knock some battalion on their ass by ending a fight with advantage and you sonic the hedgehog over to it for guaranteed initiative and you have time to cast a skill on the way over because you are so damn fast, that feeling is PHENOMENAL. It is so rewarding. There is this sensation of the game encouraging an offensive playstyle that I have not felt from most other games in the genre. Many single player strategy games use movement mechanics mainly for defensive positioning, but this game encourages you chasing people down to keep very tangible momentum. I don't feel like a sad little meow meow fighting for survival while backpedaling from the enemy, I feel like I am on a mission to catch the enemy and break their kneecaps at all costs. Also thieves as dedicated dodge tanks??? That is so rad. I can't wait to see the other classes.
Any real in-depth mechanical thoughts I have will probably be after 10 or so hours in the full game. I'm pretty sure they are obscuring a lot of the mechanics and progression in the demo, but that makes sense for being a quick look at the game concept overall. I'll be sure to follow up this post when I get deep into the full release.
I think the game will at least be very good and I am glad it will have an HD Switch version on the PC because there is no chance I play such a pretty game on my crusty little switch screen.
That's probably all I have to say on it right now. I'm no writer or videogame journalist, and I am definitely not gonna proofread this, yeehaw.

Black Survival Game Server Shutdown on 8th December 2022
Tumblr media
*sigh* this is a sad year, didn’t expect to see on my FB timeline, yet another one of my old-time favourite mobile games is gonna bite the dust just like Helix Waltz  (。•́︿•̀。)
If you don’t know what Black Survival ( or now called Immortal Soul : Black Survival after migration ) is, it’s basically a real-time survival game, where 10 players will battle against not only each other but also monsters lurking on the battleground.
You can choose to explore, fight, place traps, eat, drink, find and craft items, as well as flee from battles - do whatever it takes to survive. The only win condition is to be last person standing alive.
The gameplay was really fun and chaotic, but kinda challenging as you need to learn recipes by heart and yes, areas on the island will get randomly closed off as time passes by. Luck also plays a big role here too.
Back then, I remember maining Chiara first, then alternating with Camilo for the lols. Still prefer Chiara though since I was kinda used to comfortably camping chilling at the Church back then to create my stuff from the get go.
Tumblr media
The game does have it’s ups and downs over the past 7 years, but if anything, it is still quite a unique mobile game back then.
Anyway, to end things off, if you wanna say your goodbyes and play the game farewell, you still have until 8th December 2022 to do so. The devs are currently providing the players with freebies so that we can enjoy the full experience with all characters available till the end of the game.
Googleplay : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.boltrend.blacksurvival
IOS : https://apps.apple.com/us/app/black-survival-re/id1526806298
It’s also available on Steam - would recommend mobile over PC though :
https://store.steampowered.com/app/690510/Immortal_Soul_Black_Survival/
Last but not least, thank you to the Black Survival team for 7 years of unique gameplay and their generosity in the last moments of the game.
Goodbye, cya next time in the future ☆⌒(ゝ。∂)

I also did Zadnor actually! Which is why I was sad about the 4th, cause by the end of Dalriada most all of them are dead. Maybe not Pagaga and Daguza? I did like them but yeah.. BUT for Misija I like the idea of the resistance not being just "the good guys" but the problem is the betrayal of her ancestor happened a very long time ago. The new blades are that in name only, to inspire the bozjans.. So I liked the idea of someone retaliating against a system that failed them, even if through immoral means, a lot of what she does is so sadistically evil. Youve got this group of 3 assholes she kills by tempering, which is fucked up but you get it. But then she also takes pleasure in killing people like the PC or Marsak (the nice secondhand man haha). Its all fine and reminds me of Yotsuyu in some ways, but the fact the game then wants you to feel responsible somehow was really lame. The story outside of misija was pretty cool in Zadnor but Southern Front was wack. Why introduce 6 characters just to immediately kill them off in Delubrum. It just missed the msrk in ways SB didnt, while succeding where i failed in some regard, to me. Also dalriada's electric floors are awful!! youd need 4 people to disable them and then youd only have 3 left for the halls? ew! And yah delubrum was ass, the worst psrt funnily enough was the Queens Guard. Our dps was shit so we faild the first try to he enrage, then we tried again and barely made it cause I used thr LB... bleh! This turned out long sorry lol
Ah apologies for misunderstanding! Also delubrum is actually really fun if you have a group that's got lost actions lol.
I took some time to look up who in the 4th actually survives and pagaga and daguza do survive, as well as lyon, llofii, sicinius (albeit imprisoned after being turned in by lyon) and lovro, who gets cured of his tempering. Clarricie also ostensibly survives, though it's not specified. Frankly lyon and daguza are the only ones who had the charisma to really earn my affection in any way so that's enough for me. Clarricie was fun too I guess she was kind of fucking nutso.
Anyway I'm not gonna sit here and say misija's storyline is a masterpiece. But I will say that I'm far more swayed by generational trauma and oppression than I am by 6 bara furries. Making me give a shit about male hrothgars is an uphill battle that square Enix has yet to win. Sorry to any furries or man likers who follow me 😔

for the oc ask game, 12, 13, and 22
Tumblr media
YOURE FINE THANK YOU FOR THE ASK !!!!! i am literally so excited rn to talk about my little guys it's insane
12. I answered it already but here's another one ! I REALLY like my friend @gaygaygadget27 's dnd character Samani, I haven't played with him while he was playing Samani as a PC but he brought her in as an NPC for our current campaign and she's the funniest out of all the NPC's ive seen, truly I love her so much !!! I'm almost sad our current arc where she's in is ending because it means we'll see her less and I think shes hilarious, so I hope to see her again !
13. Okay yes I do have one but it's not a character I can talk too much about because I haven't played him yet 😭 HOWEVER the next best thing is Aniliidae . He didn't grow up in the best conditions so sometimes a little trouble would help him survive. HOWEVER he also enjoys to lie for fun and to play pranks though he's lost the habit of it due to circumstances.
23. Ryza ! First of all their color palette used to be absolutely horrendous. She was also my first ever dnd oc though, so I wasn't aware then just how much I could push the "canon" of character creation. She was always a druid, but she used to be more closely related to her demonic ancestry, and she also used to only wildshape into a swarm of bees (At the time of her creation, I had been led to believe that druids could only wildshape into One Creature Ever. I didn't even know subclasses existed !!!!) I think the one constant with them was that she always had her Fishing Pole, so she could always summon aquatic creatures out of thin air, though it used to look nothing like their current staff does. Her full name was also different hehe

Simblr Community Challenge
I was tagged by @arielovessims , @limejellysims , @oliveandgrimshouse , @janika31 , and @penig ! Thank all of you so much for tagging me! Apologies for the absolute wall of text, I'm a rambler.
Simblr community challenge by Amelettes!
How long have you been playing the Sims?
Since 2000 or 2001, (so like 2/3 of my life) sometime after Livin’ Large came out, but before House Party. I was 10 or 11, and me and my mom went to K-Mart (RIP), where I discovered Livin’ Large. She also thought the game looked fun, so she bought it for me. I was so excited to play and spent the whole ride home looking at the box, only to not be able to play it because we didn’t realize that it was an expansion pack and that meant we had to have the base game. I’m certain I cried. But within a week or so she got me the base game, and I was instantly addicted. My mom used to let me skip school on new expansion release dates, and had to drive an hour to the nearest GameStop to get them. She did the same thing for TS2, which I started playing the day it came out.
How long have you been a Simblr, and why did you become one?
I think I started this blog in July 2017. After my ex burned my house down in September 2016, I discovered that one of the few things to survive the fire were my TS2 discs. But after I let my pc dry out for a while and got it running again it turned out my disc drive no longer worked, so I started looking for an “alternative” source for the game and discovered that Ultimate Collection was a free thing I could get. I’d already been following some simblrs on my personal tumblr for a while (I was lurking on you guys!), and decided to make one of my own to post screenshots from my game, but rather than make a side blog I made a new email and account so my dash would be nothing but sims!
What type of Simblr are you?
A sporadic one? At first I just posted random gameplay stuff, I’ve dabbled in stories, and I make cc. I’d love to get back into writing stories, and share cc more often like I used to, but my mental health is, well let’s just call it “not good”, so I struggle to even do things I enjoy. I still have a desire to do things, and I do write down a lot of ideas, but it’s just hard for me to actually do the thing. I’ve pretty much been in a state of “be back soon - struggling right now!” for like 2.5 years and it sucks. I feel bad.
Which generation of Sims do you primarily play?
TS2! TS1 might have been my first love, but TS2 is my true love. I do wish I could play TS1, but my pc hates it. I really need to just sit down and fight it until I can make it work. TS3 has also been growing on me the past year or so. It does have some really awesome features, but is also just a general mess in other ways? That’s another one that I need to just sit down and take the time to figure out what mods to get, how they work, where to get the fixed worlds and content, etc.. Something I never liked about it was how the actual sims themselves look? Like potato-y but also uncanny? Or is that just me? But I’ve seen really beautiful TS3 sims that don’t look like that at all, so again, if I could just put the time and effort into making pretty faces and fixing the glitches/annoyances I think I could get a lot more into TS3. TS4 doesn’t really interest me? My grandma got me the base game years ago, and it lives on the shelf with all my other sims games but I never installed it, not that my sad old pc could handle it anyway. My boyfriend got Xbox Game Pass recently, and they have it on there so maybe I’ll mess around with it on console? I do like looking at other people’s TS4 though, and I love 4t2 conversions.
Rules - Tag some people, and let the community bonding commence!
I tag @asimplevampire , @withlovefromsimtown , @thatmultifandomteen , @sixamese-simblr , @frauhupfner , @furbyq , @silverspringsimmer , and anyone else who wants to do it, just say I tagged you! Feel free to not do it if you don’t want to, or already have!

From now until this coming Saturday, PC players can claim the seminal Far Cry 3 for free, courtesy of a giveaway from Ubisoft. Developed by Ubisoft Montréal, the crew behind Splinter Cell and Far Cry 2, Far Cry 3 hit stores in late 2012 for PC and seventh-generation consoles. The dynamic open-world gameplay, exploration, and Heart of Darkness-inspired story captivated millions of players, yet the villainous Vaas is what keeps the title in the conversation nearly a decade later.
Actor Michael Mando, now known for Orphan Black and Better Call Saul, brought Vaas to life, essentially drafting the blueprint for Far Cry villains that would follow in his stead. Far Cry 4 dropped players into the world of the eccentric Pagan Min, played by Troy Baker. Greg Bryk took lead as Far Cry 5’s Joseph Seed, a David Koresh-like cult leader whose charisma proved equal parts fascinating and unsettling. The brand’s sixth mainline entry arrives this fall, complete with a tyrannical antagonist, Antón Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito of Breaking Bad fame. In preparation for the next adventure, some players may want to revisit the franchise’s inflection point.

By visiting the “Giveaway” page on Ubisoft‘s official website, Ubisoft Connect PC players can download free access to Far Cry 3. This deal for the open-world first-person adventure will last from today, September 7, through September 11 at 1:30 AM local time. Those who don’t already have a Ubisoft Connect account need only to register should they choose to take advantage of the limited-time free offer.
Tumblr media
This free offer arguably couldn’t have gone live at a better time, considering the impending rollout of Far Cry 6. Like Far Cry 3 before it, the sixth mainline installment takes place in a tropical environment, though the franchise’s newest setting obviously took cues from real-world Cuba.
Far Cry 3 placed players in the role of Jason Brody, a young man vacationing in the fictional Rook Islands with his brother, girlfriend, and a small group of friends. What starts as a fun trip quickly morphs into a twisted game of survival for Jason and his loved ones. By the end of it all, Jason stands transformed, a new man whose fate rests in the hands of a deceptively simple player-based decision.

Ubisoft‘s Far Cry 3 is playable now across on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.

The Tea Times - May 2020
Normally, I’d use this little intro box to joke about the events in the news in a lighthearted we’re-all-gonna-die kind of a way, but that doesn’t really feel right at the moment. It’s been a very charged month, with the virus and injustice making the rounds. I hope everyone is keeping safe while they fight for what’s right.
On the games side of things, it's been a little threadbare on the news front, as tends to be the way as we move into summer. Things should hopefully pick up next month with things like the IGN Summer of Gaming kicking in. Oh and if you’re wondering what happened to April’s news, then I forgot. Simple as that. Whoops.
At a Glance
Mafia II and III: Definitive Editions, Maneater, Minecraft Dungeons and Shantae and the Seven Sirens released.
Paper Mario: The Origami King, Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, Blue Fire announced.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon is coming to PC!
Pyramid Head breaks his way into Dead by Daylight!
Rumour mill: The Simpsons: Hit and Run!
Blizzcon officially cancelled!
Ubisoft taking on Apple and Google!
The Releases
A big chunk of the releases in May were remasters or games that had otherwise been packaged together. I wouldn’t normally talk about them but there has been quite a lot of buzz about the definitive editions of Mafia II and Mafia III. I’ve played Mafia II and enjoyed my time with it but I wouldn’t say it was due a definitive edition ten years later but here we are. Unfortunately, the definitive editions have been plagued with performance issues. If you want to wade in yourself, then the Definitive Editions hit Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox on the 19th May.
Tumblr media
From the mobsters of the real world to the mobsters (probably) of the sea: sharks. If you’ve ever felt you have too few teeth and wondered how human beings taste, then give Maneater a whirl and possibly seek therapy. Maneater pits you as a shark in a vicious battle of revenge against the hunter who killed your mother. A lot of innocent people will die in the process but that’s nature, baby. It was released on Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the 22nd May and will release on the Switch later this year.
One of more highly anticipated releases this month was Minecraft Dungeons, the isometric hack’n’slash set in the Minecraft world. Honestly, I didn’t really believe it was an actual game up until release but it is. It seems to be as fun and chill as Minecraft is but with less crafting and more hitting things. One to break out with friends, methinks. If it’s your bag, it was released on PC, Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 26th.
I never had much to do with the Shantae series but it clearly struck a note with people because we’re now on to the fifth game in the series, Shantae and the Seven Sirens. Technically it’s been out since last year but on mobile devices and in parts by the look of it. Bit odd, but the whole package is now out if you fancy some more platforming, transforming and… dancing I guess. It came to PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and the Switch on May 28th 2020.
The Announcements
In a fairly shocking turn of events, Nintendo announced Paper Mario: The Origami King, which was surprising enough but more than that, it’s coming as early as July 17th. Funnily enough, it features an origami twist as Mario characters are folded into new and interesting shapes.  It’s not that unusual for Nintendo to pull this kind of move but I wouldn’t have thought that Paper Mario would have that kind of draw anymore. Still, my fingers are crossed that this is going to be a return to form following the failure lacklustre Sticker Star and (reportedly) Colour Splash. The trailer maybe hints at some turn based stuff! Here’s hoping!
Tumblr media
For those that like a mystery, then you may like Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One. It seems that the biggest mystery of all, Sherlock himself, is about to be unravelled. Presumably anyway, I never really had much of a dalliance with the deerstalker detective. Still, the Sherlock Holmes series has gained a firm reputation over the years and Chapter One is still in the reliable hands of Frogware. It will be out in 2021.
On the prettier side of things, there’s Blue Fire. It’s a heavily Zelda inspired game about trekking across a desolated kingdom, poking your nose into all of its secrets. It has a nice clean artstyle, reminiscent of something like A Hat in Time, with some slashy combat on top. It looks pretty good, though I’m less keen on the shadow monster enemy design. It should be coming out this summer.
Dragon Itself To PC!
The Yakuza series has been unfortunately tied to the PlayStation for quite some time now. While the first few in the series have been remastered for PC, entries three to seven are still PlayStation exclusive. My ways of knocking people out with bowls of noodles are severely limited. Hopefully, however, there’s now a bit more light at the end of the tunnel.
The latest in the series, Yakuza: Like A Dragon, will now be coming to PC. It specified Windows 10 but it should hopefully be supported by all operating systems. Like A Dragon is peculiar in that it is turn based, unlike the action focus the rest of the series has, but seems to maintain the madcap vibe. I’m hoping it sells like hotcakes, so SEGA will have more incentive to release the rest of the Yakuza series on PC. It should be out later this year either way.
Tumblr media
Unexpected Pyramid Head
If I made a news piece about everyone that got added to Dead by Daylight then you would get mighty sick of it. In this case though, someone notable has been added: Pyramid Head from the Silent Hill series. The physical representation of the protagonist from Silent Hill 2’s irrepressible sexual desires. He’s evolved beyond that nowadays though, arguably being the face (of sorts) of the survival horror genre. Maybe it was only a matter of time until he was absorbed into Dead by Daylight’s roster.
What is notable about this is that the Silent Hill series has been pretty firmly closed. After the much anticipated Silent Hills fell through, so Konami could focus on making pachinko machines and burning money, the series has been stagnant. Let's be honest, it was pretty rough times before that with games like Silent Hill: Homecoming but PT gave us all hope. Having Pyramid Head suddenly appear in the public eye is a bit odd.
He’ll be released next month. His skillset seems to be around map manipulation as he drags his big old sword along the ground. He can also put people in the Cage of Atonement, which is a special hook. Sounds nice.
Rumour Mill: Hitting and Running
Originally there were two rumours this month but then Like A Dragon got confirmed so that leaves us with just the one: The Simpsons: Hit and Run may be getting a remaster. It’s a much beloved game, for good reason as it allows people to Grand Theft Auto their way across The Simpsons world. A remaster for PC and modern day consoles would go down a treat, seeing as The Simpsons still seems to be going strong.
Tumblr media
Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt. Actually, seeing as the rumour came from just a reddit post you can take it with a giant truckload of salt. Still, it would be nice. The same post also comments on a new entry in the Sleeping Dogs series (which would be fantastic), the Far Cry series, Tomb Raider and, rather unfortunately, Just Cause 5. Hopefully they’ve learned a few things on that one.
Oh and Mad Max II, which would be pretty sweet given how the first one was kind of swept under the rug.
Blizzcon Is Blizz-gone
Blizzard’s big convention, Blizzcon, will not be happening this year. As news goes, it’s not particularly revolutionary but it is still sad to see. I know a lot of people would have been looking forward to getting together with likeminded people and playing some games together as well as seeing what’s going on inside the Blizzard skunkworks.
They’re looking into online ways of contacting people, so at least something of the convention can carry on but I’m afraid you’ll likely have to wait until next year if you were hoping to meet up with some friends.
A Legal Assissination
Here’s something that I wasn’t expecting. Ubisoft, purveyors of the finest assassinations and less than fine game clients, are taking on the twin giants of Apple and Google. Sounds like a bit of a self-assassination to me but you’ve got to protect your IP somehow I suppose. The issue surrounds Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft’s immensely popular online tactical shooter. A group called Alibaba created a game called “Area F2” which seems to be a straight rip-off of Rainbow Six Siege. Right down to the menu icons by the look of it.
Ubisoft’s lawsuit is therefore directed at Apple and Google for allowing Area F2 to be sold in their stores. It looks like a pretty legitimate claim to be honest, as that’s plagiarism to a laughable degree. Ubisoft did notify them by the sounds of it but they haven’t done anything about it. Best keep an eye on this storm as it develops.
That’s all for May, see you in June!

the warden and their mabari have a special bond
(the crowd: well DUH) but no, a special bond
from a realistic perspective instead of a game where PC player is god and sun, mab is essentially the only companion warden has to their self. all the other companions have parts in their character that can lead to them either betraying warden or leaving them. they all have very extreme ideals that often conflict with being that truu ride or die figure. mab is the only companion the warden can trust to the fullest extent to be That Bitch
dwarven wardens don’t understand all the hype surrounding ferelden’s obsession with dogs until mab imprints on them. maybe they’re skeptical at first. “eh, just a dog, they can serve as cannon fodder if nothing else” but experiencing mab curling up next to them at night, lunging at darkspawn to protect them, cocking his head at them when they do something weird, running around in a frenzy bc “!!!!!!!!!! i am dog !!!!!!!! how exciting !!!!!” has them slowly and unequivocally falling for that ferelden mabari magic
mage wardens having had no interactions with dogs beyond stray pooches that somehow got lost in the tower sometimes. they’re wary, maybe a lil scared, because they never thought dogs could get that big and muscular. mab is patient with them, though. he takes extra care not to bite too quickly when food is tenderly extended to him. gives mage warden some space while they’re warming up before he soon becomes their pillow, their blanket, and most beloved companion. there’s a mutual understanding between them that mage warden has never experienced with any person before.
dalish elf wardens wrinkling their nose up at the smell, ever confused why humans could live in such close proximity to these beasts. nothing like halla, no. there’s no elegance and beauty in a mabari, not unless you look for it. dalish warden deciding a bath will fix mab right up and make him significantly more tolerable, but mab barreling out of the tub, splaying them with a waterfall of soap and droplets is what bridges that gap. what a funny creature!!
couslands and their proud mabari, the only companion that survived the greatest betrayal they’ll ever know. they share more than food, a tent, and fond childhood memories; they share that trauma, mourn together, remember together, and grow past it together. after all, a house is always sturdier when made with stone instead of wood. cousland and mab’s relationship is impossible to splinter.
city elf warden always wanted a mabari, but could never afford to feed the extra mouth. mab imprinting on them is like their best dream coming to fruition. they never take any moment for granted, not even when mab takes off with their dinner, steals their socks, or takes up the entire bedroll and forces warden to sleep on the ground. city elf warden sees every moment, whether annoying or fun or sad, as a blessing, a symbol of their future holding more than their past ever did.

How I live in 2020 part 2
So, we survived! Congratulations to all of us who followed protocols and rules on how to survive in the year 2020 during this global pandemic.  Another day, another time to be holed up in homes but lately, I’ve been reminiscing about my past years. I mean since we couldn’t do anything in our homes, I had the idea to reminisce when I was young. Where the time was so happy, wherein people were still outdoors and dogs barking. Where you know we people used to have fun. Oh the good times, I miss them. Enough drama, let’s just continue and move on since we could get enough sleep, somehow though. Reading books and drawing became part of my hobby now, I mean I did draw and read when I was younger but, lately since I’m bored to play games on my pc, I just draw. I draw what I see, even though they suck I guess? I also read books now, and this days I’ve been interested in the works of Rick Riordan. His works are so awesome since I like Myths or fantasies and stuff, but still tbh I’m sometimes bored when I read, I even  doze off.  Living right now isn’t exactly the way like it used to be before, it’s sad right now. You can actually feel it, even in the thin air you could feel the sorrowful breeze whooshing through your cheeks. That’s why almost all of us have been praying or wishing that 2020 would end.

Mass Effect Initiation thoughts
In short: this book is actually really good, N.K. Jemisin is, as we all know, an excellent writer! It’s the story of how Cora met Alec Ryder and joined the Initiative, and it has SO much good good SAM content and I am full of emotions.
- poor cora is so continually out of her depth, I want to give her a hug. the points made about her in the main game are true though -- she is not ready for leadership yet. (and that’s fine! she does much better with something or someone to belong to and that is so Valid. she’s an honorable Loyal Knight!!! one of the sexiest things to be, as we all know)
I think I’ll actually like her a lot more on this new playthrough now -- she must have been quite hard to write compellingly in the game because at the end of the day she’s really very straightforward and honest and loyal, it’s quite hard to uh ‘hide’ things in her character
- alec ryder deadass installed an unspeakably illegal (and did I mention experimental?) AI in cora’s head with no informed consent whatsoever. d A D
(when cora is like ‘are you actually going to another galaxy because they don’t have laws to stop you from committing fully to your craziness in public’ and alec is like *...maybe so meme* fadsfhkj he does literally say ‘this is why I’m going to another galaxy’ out loud at a later point of the book)
- this book is giving me the good good SAM content ;________; I love SAM so much, the scene where cora thinks she’s dying and SAM talks to her? when cora asks SAM if he’s okay being connected to her because if he’s sentient that matters to her (cora is a Good)? SAM explicitly having inherited alec ryder’s sense of humour and sarcasm and alec a) doesn’t know how it happened, b) distantly thinks he should probably track that process down and turn it off (and never does) and c) regrets all his life choices when his robot kid mercilessly snarks at him and questions his life choices? please bioware give me an me:a sequel with more of this stuff I’ll eat it up with a spoon
- body diverse asari! HUGE BUFF ASARI! Short stocky beautiful matriarch asari with one krogan and one turian trophy husband fast asleep in her bed in the background of a vidcall fkdjshfkjsdlhfkjsdah god I love mass effect with my entire heart
- OLD LADY INFORMATION BROKER VOLUS WORKING OUT OF ILLIUM!!!! this is not a drill what the fUCK this is the coolest shit
- fasdklhfsjkdalfhsdjk okay in Alec Ryder POV: “I don’t think [Cora] likes me very much.” Which probably meant she had good judgement. AFLSKJDHGJSDKF ALEC
he has a weird flip-flopping sense of self -- he is uncompromisingly (one might even say... astoundingly arrogantly) secure in his own intellectual superiority and that most other people are idiots not to be trusted and that he needs to do things himself because others would mess it up, and yet there’s this clear seam of self loathing around basically everything else about himself too. (You know who he reminds me of, in a more military and less visibly anxious way? Rodney McKay. Alec Ryder is like a slightly unfortunate outcome for a McShep lovechild. I think we just figured out why I have sort of a soft spot for him even though he’s a certifiable dick lol)
- this book really makes it hit home that cora grew up incredibly isolated and dirt poor. I’ve seen some people say her backstory is all sunshine and daisies compared to kaidan and especially jack’s, but honestly her background is complicated and fucked up enough that I’m just like ‘shit baby :(’ all the time
- well I have successfully solved the puzzle about whether alec ryder is an idealist or not; he absolutely is. a grouchy, bad-tempered one with no people skills, but an idealist nonetheless. alec ryder is in fact a storm of 150000 emotions in a trenchcoat, barely held in check by a thin fragile outer shell of iron lol, SAM was absolutely right to say that he was mostly governed by his feelings. (and I mean if anyone would know it’d be SAM I guess). I found some of it sort of sweet actually: he reflects in passing that one of the biggest reliefs of no longer being in the alliance is that he’ll never have to risk other people’s lives again. he fundamentally wants to build something good to help people live and be happy instead of destroying things. (he also is quite bad at predicting how other people could corrupt and use his innovations precisely to be destructive b/c he doesn’t think that’s the ~*logical*~ thing to do, so... y’know haha, maybe it’s good he went to another galaxy, the milky way could not contain his chaos)
also he thinks a lot about his wife, even though she’s been dead for years at this point. o u c h (she truly does seem to have been a tether for him in so many ways though -- like a tie to the real world/normalcy/possibly sanity, and that’s a bit how he still evokes her)
additionally: alec ryder did fistfight at the very least one dude in the line of bureaucratic duty, and perhaps more, enough for SAM to have a list of warning signs ready and at hand jdfsklfhasdjf. he did, very much, throw a dude through a table. (at least it’s implied said dude was an asshole) I LOVE that alec’s SAM is  the snarkiest iteration we’ve seen and that he’s perfectly willing to call the old man out on his bullshit (alec stresses that SAM is supposed to do what he says at the end of the day, but his SAM is also less subservient and more willing to argue and discuss things than any other we get to see -- and this is of course the SAM Ryder inherits, but I don’t think SAM is as confident in being able to read the PC correctly until a bit further into the game and the twin is of course a different person who’ll respond to different things so he’s not quite as... blunt? I guess? in confronting them about things. (the whole concept is just! so! interesting!!) anyway I feel like all of this says something about alec’s parenting style, for better or for worse haha. he sort of tries to be authoritarian but his children (well canonically at least Sara, she references having yelled at him a lot over the years) aren’t afraid to fight back or scared of the consequences of disagreeing, so I get the distinct feeling his temper never flared violently like that with his family at all, I think he’s more prone to just pulling away in disapproval.)
- I enjoy how casually diverse this book is  -- Jemisin has done such a good job making sure especially the human characters are from different backgrounds and places, as they would be lore-wise in the Mass Effect universe, though the games often skew unfortunately white. (andromeda much less so than the trilogy, though)
- my heart. is so so soft for the fact that a huge reason for cora to join the initiative is how much she bonds with SAM-E. and I am so sad for her because she just wants someone or something who’ll stay, something that won’t disappear on her without closure like her parents; she’s so insecure and scared under her competence (and WHY THE FUCK WOULDN’T SHE BE holy shit her parents just. weren’t there one day after she left home so she wouldn’t accidentally crush their ship with her untrained biotics and kill them all). and she chooses alec and his dream. and then alec goes and FUCKING DIES at the first opportunity Y____________Y alternate universe alec please drink your victor sullivan juice and survive, all these dumb children need you
- I am so surprised about how much fond respect alec seems to have for cora and how quickly he developed it. I suppose he has a harder time with his own children because it’s closer to home? he is a complicated man lol, this last part of the book where he shows her the ark and everything is weirdly sweet. again I think he has the potential to be a good dad somewhere in there and that just makes it so much worse that he wasn’t. (also he staunchly considers himself still a married man. god help me)
they’ve both grown to honestly love their sams T________T fml. (well alec has sort of bound up all of himself, the things he loves and their future in SAM, so it’s a bit more complicated but my point still stands) alec advocating for a consensual synthesis is very heartfelt and convincing; you really want to believe him.
cora seen through someone else’s eyes is also SO AMAZING!!! after this whole book in her head and she feels so flailing and uncertain and adrift and other people naturally view her completely differently. I especially like alec picking up on her not talking a lot. (I think this is why she responds so well to SAM, who’ll be there always and can be in her head. I wish this part of cora was more evident in the game, the fact that she has this sibling-like connection to SAM seems very important. sequel where both SAM and Ryder grow closer to becoming her actual family? please? I keep begging for ME:A2 into an empty aching void haha)
- alec ‘I don’t have time to die’ ryder still talking about everyone else being idiots as he’s slowly catching fire while saving SAM fhdjfhsdlfhasdhlfsjd he is an asshole but it is hard not to stan
- nO SAM-E D:D:D: oh well at least he’s still alive within SAM, in a way?
- hey. hey you know what’s fun. alec tries to use his last words and last thoughts to ask cora to tell the kids about ellen being alive this time too. haha. ha. fuck
he consistently goes out thinking of his family despite all his bullshit and I’m not okay
- CORA IS A PERFECT BODYGUARD/SECOND IN COMMAND AND I’M EMOTIONAL
- alec is. surprisingly afraid to hurt people emotionally? he keeps putting off telling cora the bad news about SAM-E, to SAM’s stated disapproval lol (I must repeat again: I love SAM so so much). this supports my thesis that in his personal life he’s avoidant rather than confrontational/aggressive. (professionally... again, he did very much throw a man through a table)
- man I hope we some day get SAM being this comfortably close and sarcastic with Ryder too. thinking about SAM-E and the small differences between him and uh SAM ‘prime’ it really must have been a huge thing for him too to become someone else, especially after the last person died like that. and he kind of has no choice but to experience that loss and death intimately. (now that I think about it that’s. fucked up, man. he literally felt alec go like it happened to himself.)
If I were to summarize the differences between the SAMs we have seen, cora’s SAM-E seems younger, more exuberant, shyer and more -- what’s a non-shitty word for needy haha? it’s very firmly established that cora longs to feel needed, so this makes perfect sense. alec’s SAM is blunter, snarkier and more prone to questioning things, and hilariously is sort of alec’s emotional intelligence. (probably serves a similar role to what ellen used to, actually. ow) scott/sara’s SAM feels more worried/focused -- which also makes sense; he’s just experienced losing his person/pathfinder, in a real way he’s also recently orphaned and must be Extremely aware that he now has an enormous responsibility, not only what he was built for but for what remains of alec’s family. ...poor SAM
(come to think of it I guess one vibe I get from in-game SAM is a little bit of ’harried and anxious yet loving and responsible uncle’ hahaha)
- so at this point alec knew cora could never be pathfinder after him, and he never told her. *accumulation of asshole points continues, though I suspect this might have come from a place of not wanting to hurt her again (b/c he’s the only one who has a right to know these important things amirite)* but I’m also strangely touched that the reason he’s hesitant to involve his children in the whole thing isn’t that he doesn’t have faith in them, it’s that he doesn’t want to burden their lives with something so heavy, a burden he created. can you just imagine... if this man had managed to take the time to explain himself, his motivations and his feelings to his children just once. just one fUCKING time. am I laughing am I crying I honestly don’t know
- this book makes me ache all over for the potential of Andromeda. and I don’t think it’s too late to salvage it either. I know a sequel probably won’t happen, at least not any time soon, but... *sits by rainy window like a wife wistfully wondering if her husband will return from sea*

true canon: an explanation
True Canon is set in a typical High Fantasy D&D ye olden age world, with monsters and magic and dragons galore. It started out focused entirely on Eve and Viktor and a few others’ travels through a country called Witherhurst, and as we made more characters and stories and kingdoms, we expanded the scope of WotOG (the original D&D game) to cover all of them, until we had a nice world built up around the characters. Since not all of the stories related to the events of WotOG (and WotOG part 2: Electric Boogaloo), we decided to change the name to True Canon, so we knew which universe for sure was the foundation upon which our Many AU’s Stand. Here’s a quick n dirty timeline, for reference:
(much more under the cut)
-Eve, Viktor, and a few others that aren’t relevant to the story travel around Witherhurst on a job or something from a lady who’s Definitely Not Important At All (Her name is Prenella). At some point Prenella ditches the party and they’re stuck without a cleric for a while
-They make it to a big city, and through shenanigans that include travelling the city for fun and also almost dying to a pack of rabid dogs, Eve convinces Intem to join the party.
-Eve, Vik, and now Intem (plus one more pc) unravel a cult plot, something about the end of the world, blah blah nothing really important there. They end up taking out the cult and fighting Prenella, the cult’s leader, who also happens to be a dragon. Neat.
-After that horrifying ordeal, the party reconvenes and decides, ‘fuck it, let’s go find a new place to travel together’ and thus board a ship that they then steal from the captain (after Intem’s “pet” eats said captain).
-So begins the few years the party spends as pirates.
-Things happen, they end up fighting an eldritch god for world-ending rights, and go on their merry way.
- Intem falls into the role of reluctant (but no less ruthless) pirate captain, with vik as his first mate and eve as navigator (despite the fact that she can’t read. they figure it out)
-This is around the time Intem goes from lilac-haired sunshine boy to disgruntled cynic who’s Done With Your Shit, Viktor.
-Eventually the crew docks, and picks up Therai and Pippin for a while. Eve also brings up the idea of reviving Vik’s old travelling companion, Dante (two bros, chillin in a tavern, no feet apart ‘cause they’re so gay), and Intem’s like “Sure why the fuck not” and they set off to find his grave or whatever.
-Hatch and Xander are in the area and end up getting picked up by the crew.
-Dante gets revived, and for the next year or so, everything is fine.
-Eventually the crew docks near Therai’s old home kingdom, and he dips, taking Pippin, Xander, and Hatch with him (he really only meant to take Pip). They spend a while travelling to his kingdom, Aer-Vinn, and encounter Hatch’s long time (boy)friend Aerglo. He joins the party, at Hatch’s request.
-A little while later (vague time frame I know but exact years don’t matter here), there’s some Good Therai Angst when- Shock! Horror! - they end up stumbling upon Tal, who shares ~history~ with Therai. Not the good kind, mind you. They leave soon after meeting Tal.
-There’s a few more encounters with Therai’s old companion before Tal eventually softens up and joins the party, hell yeah. Warren joins too, because he was nearby and Also shares ~history~ with Therai and Tal. (They were all in a party together before this)
-AT THE SAME TIME THIS IS GOING ON: Rain sets out on a holy mission from their church to prove themselves worthy of being a Paladin of the Church.
-They meet Rosemary along the way, and after a small adventure together, they decide to help Rose out and find Catherine with her, because a while back Rose accidentally turned Catherine into, well, a cat.
-They do find Cat, after she’d gone through some Shit in an alternate dimension featuring a Sun Goddess and her complete mental breakdown. Cat Killed A Goddess (or two, we’ll see how the campaign goes), and made friends with the cousins Mikhail and Valentine. Mikhail doesn’t matter to the timeline right now.
-Anyway, Rain and Rose find Cat, and settle down in a little seaside village where they work together to turn Cat back into a human.
-They Succeed!!!
-Uh-oh there’s a stranger at the door- Oh! It’s just Rain’s Cleric friend from their church, Rahon! Turns out Rain kinda went MIA and everyone back home is having a Panic, so Rahon’s here to make sure Rain is alive and well, or collect their belongings if they’re not-
-But they’re alive, so Rahon calms down and decides to stay (after sending a message back home, of course), to keep an eye or two on Rain.
-Rain is Delighted :)
-The party (minus kal) were traveling somewhere, kal ended up going the same way, and they ended up in the same city for a while. rahon saw her Up To No Good, so he kept an eye on them and saw them getting stabbed, and decided to nurse her back to health, and thus Kal Joins The Party. Rahon is an absolute sweetheart to them
-Eventually Rose, Cat, and Rain head out to a nearby cave system bc of Reasons, and end up kinda sorta stumbling into a system that leads to this world’s version of the Underdark. They need help navigating, because Fuck These Tunnels Are Confusing, and come across a little hermit drow who’s living his “best” life in his underground hut with tattered clothes and ratty books and cracked glasses.
-He just wants to see the surface but is terrified of how the world will treat him if he goes up alone, so he offers to guide everyone through the Underdark in exchange for them taking him up to the surface. Everyone agrees
-Astralus, little hermit drow lad, does so, and soon finds himself stumbling out into broad daylight. He’s got light sensitivity and everything Burns, but he’s so fucking happy oh my gods. Also he’s crying but it’s okay, he’s kinda really emotional.
-Aster joins the party! And they find out he’s cousins with Rose, who practically adopted him as a brother anyway let’s be real.
-Somehow Val learns of Cat’s whereabouts, and pops by to say hi to his trauma buddy. Cue shock as he sees her as human for the first time. Aster develops an immediate crush, and takes to following Val around like a lost puppy.
-Val is having a Time because, Aster looks just like a person he knew in an alternate universe and things didn’t turn out well for them. Yikes.
-Val joins the party, if only to tease Cat and finally have a place to be for a while
-MEANWHILE: Bree finds an abomination living in the abandoned mineshafts near her village. She decides he could probably use a friend, since the entire village is pretty scared of/hostile towards him, and becomes that friend. She finds out his name is Ve, and he’s a sweetheart. She makes immediate friends and he teaches her sign language, because he Literally Doesn’t Have A Face, he can’t speak.
-A few weeks later, either Ve or Bree decide to leave bc Fuck This Town, except they don’t say Fuck because they’re both softe beans (they both legally cannot say fuck. and i actually had an idea for how they leave ovo). Either way, they leave, and through shenanigans, they pick up Three More Tieflings, what the hell, which is kinda funny because previously, Bree didn’t think tieflings existed at all.
-Tarvaii and Trancey are travelling together as a Chaotic Mischief Duo, and end up joining the party because Bree made friends
-Same situation with Chaym, though he was alone and depressed because his entire village got massacred. Bree made friends, and Chaym joined the party
-Chaym also ended up teaching Trancey magic, specifically Necromancy, which is kinda really stupid dangerous but it’s fine, Chaym survived, why shouldn’t Trancey? (flawed logic but okay Chaym)
-Cut to a few years later, back with Eve and Co.
-They’re in a tavern, Eve sees a depressed tiefling at the bar. What does she do? Immediately go try to cheer him up.
-She finds out he’d left his pregnant girlfriend on a mission to go help out somewhere, and ended up stuck in a weird place where time passes differently for him. It’s been 26 years, though to him it felt more like a handful of weeks. He’s scared and confused and would very much like to find his family, but he has no idea where he is.
-Eve’s heart breaks bc! he’s so sad and his girlfriend is pregnant and he’s got a family and just wants to get back to them, how could she not want to help? and thus she decides to help the tiefling, Viren, find his family.
-Through a series of events, the find out Viren’s family was living in a beautiful city built into the mountains, that fell quite a few years back. Luckily, his girlfriend left beforehand, and moved to a small mining town, where she gave birth to, and briefly raised, their son. She named him Ve, after his father, who she assumed was dead.
-There was a fire at one point, and Angelica, Viren’s girlfriend, died saving Ve. Viren is absolutely devastated when he finds out, and Eve offers to resurrect Angelica, y’know, bring the family together again, even if for just a short time.
-Vi agrees, and they do so! Woo! Also Eve and co. meet up with Ve for a while so the family really is back together.
-Intem, doing a sneaky trick, makes it so Angelica’s soul keeps the body and just, lives until the body dies, be it natural or unnatural causes. He only tells Eve and Angelica about it, and waits to see how long it takes Viren to realize ‘oh shit I’m not losing my fiance so soon’
-Also Viren and Angelica get engaged! Woo!
-A little while passes, Viren and Anne join the party, and Eve gets pregnant with Intem’s kids. At this point the party’s stopped adventuring, and they all settled down somewhere nice. Anyway Eve’s pregnant and gives birth to twins, Olive and Evergreen (Evan for short), but Olive looks more like Therai than Intem and it’s kinda weird, but nobody really minds because the twins are just, so cute. Also Therai (and co) came back and built the party a nice house, so, yeah.
-Olive and Evan grow up, and Evan takes an interest in Druid Magic. Vik lets Evan access his Giant Library and teaches him general magic stuff. Olive scares her whole ass family by taking an interest in Necromancy, and eventually someone gets in contact with Chaym (and by extension Trancey), and has him come over to teach Olive.
-Olive becomes a necromancer! And then heads off with Evan in tow to start their own life of adventuring.
-Eve has another kid, Avery, with Therai
-Olive befriends a Whole Ass Dragon, gives him the nickname Jade, and introduces him to Evan. By the time the trio make it back to Jade’s hoard, Avery’s taken on the role of Fighter and heads out into the world to do her own thing. She also meets Clover, another fighter, and they travel together for a while before joining Olive, Evan, and Jade.
-That’s it, that’s where we stopped on the timeline of True Canon. It’ll go on, of course, but, here’s the general timeline in 4 pages

50 OC QUESTIONS - Marcus Blackbird
Got tagged by @thepathofnevermore, whee! :D Thank you for the tag, dear, this was fun! ^-^
01. How old is your sim? My headcanon is that he’s 15 at the start of the BaCC.
02. When is your sim’s birthday? June 28.
03. What is your sim’s zodiac sign? Cancer.
04. What is your sim’s ethnicity? Neo Margitavillean/human with magic ancestry.
05. Does your sim have any nicknames? Mark, and his sister Annika calls him Marky sometimes when they play-fight and she wants to annoy him. He pretends to be awfully offended by the nickname, but it’s more a running gag than anything else; he actually doesn’t mind it at all.
06. Do they have a job? Not at the moment.
07. Where does your sim live? Wyvern’s Bay since recently, Neo Margitaville before that.
08. Who does your sim live with? His dad Gabriel and his little sister, the aforementioned Annika.
09. What environment did your sim grow up in? (strict, loving, cold etc.) He was brought up in what could be considered the ideal familial environment - a friendly, safe neighborhood, a snug and cozy home, parents who doted on him… But his mom passed away when he was only 6, which came as a huge shock to everyone in the family, Marcus most of all. He managed to bounce back from the loss eventually - his dad was a huge source of support for him and his baby sister proved to be a wonderful distraction - but it took him a good amount of time to process it all, and even though he’s fine now, he still misses her dearly and feels her absence.
10. What is your sim’s favourite food? Pizza… and Watcher, what he wouldn’t give for a slice right now. Did you know that Wyvern’s Bay doesn’t have any pizzerias??
11. What is your sim’s favourite drink? Water.
12. If they have one what is your sim’s favourite color? Blue.
13. Does your sim believe in any clichés? (love at first sight, etc.) He firmly believes that “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”. And before anyone asks, no, he’s not the most ambitious of sims. :P
14. What is your sim’s sexuality? Heterosexual.
15. What is your sim’s gender identity? Male.
16. Is your sim type a or type b? Uh, what the hell is type A and type B…? Next question!
17. Is your sim introverted or extroverted? Introverted.
18. What is your sim’s favourite woohoo position? The kid’s still a virgin, so who the hell knows.
19. Is your sim a pet person? If so what is their favourite animal? Yes, he loves animals! I think he’s more of a cat person than a dog person, though he likes both well enough. He’s also very partial to small birds.
20. Does your sim have a best friend? His sister Annika, and since he came to Wyvern’s Bay, Phillip Gladwyn.
21. What is/was your sim’s favourite school subject? Back when he went to “regular” school it used to be Art, Biology, and Literature, and after Dominick Irving took him and Annika in for tutoring, his favorite lessons were in Robotics and High Elvish.
22. Is/was your sim a high, mid or low achiever in school? He was an overachiever in both elementary and high school, but due to unfortunate circumstances (read: a hoodpocalypse) he was forced to cut his education short. Now that Mr.Irving has taken him under his wing, though, he continues to excel in his studies. Once a nerd, always a nerd! 😁
23. Are they planning to go or have they already been to college? If so, what would be or what was their major?
He’d really love to be able to go to college, but the way things are now, it’s highly unlikely that’ll ever happen. :/ Wyvern’s Bay doesn’t have a university of its own, and any other universities are completely out of his reach. But if he could go to uni (dreaming is free, right?) he’d probably major in Biology or Art.
24. What are your sim’s political beliefs? He doesn’t have much of an opinion on the matter.
25. What is one thing your sim wants to do before they die? Just one thing? D: Marcus is so young, there’s so much he wants to do with life! Like find the love of his life, get married, start a family… it’s a long list!
26. Does your sim have a favourite TV show (cable) and/or movie? He doesn’t have any particular movie or show he considers his favorite, but he generally enjoys comedies, superhero films, and documentaries about ancient civilizations. Or well, used to enjoy. He doesn’t get to watch much television these days…
27. Is your sim a Netflix viewer? No.
28. Does your sim like books? Yep! He’s a complete bookworm!
29. Does your sim enjoy video games, if so what is their favourite one and do they play on PC or console? He’s not a hardcore gamer by any stretch, but he used to love playing video games as a kid and younger teen. He had a PC at home that he’d play on, and one of his friends from school (who had a console) would sometimes organize game nights. When he played on his home PC, it’d usually be single-player offline games, and when he played with his friends on console, they’d go for multiplayers.
30. What is your sim’s personal style? He’d describe it as “comfy & casual”, but these days it’s closer to “wears the same old rags every day and will continue to do so until the clothes literally fall apart”. It’s not easy to be fashionable when you live off grid, in the wilderness.
31. Does your sim have a lucky charm? Not per se, no… but he used to dry press four-leaved clovers whenever he’d come across them. He called it his “lucky collection”.
32. Is your sim religious? Nah.
33. What kind of music does your sim listen to and who is their favourite artist? He doesn’t have a strict preference re: music genre, but he likes ballads, anything with an acoustic guitar in it, and also rock, when he’s in the right mood. His favorite bands are The Beatles (got the love for their music from his dad) and The Police.
34. Is your sim a festive person? If so what’s their favourite holiday? If asked he’d probably say that he is, but to him it’s not so much about the holiday itself as it is about having a chance to get together with friends and family.
35. What is your sim’s favourite type of weather? He doesn’t have a preference, he enjoys all sorts of weather: warm, sunny, rainy, snowy… As long as it isn’t anything extreme (e.g. rainstorms, overly hot, heavy snowfall), he’s happy.
36. Does your sim prefer to start fights or finish them? He’d like it best if there was no fight to begin with!
37. Does your sim have a dream job? A professor, researcher, or any similar vocation that is intellectual in nature and allows for acquisition of new knowledge. As a kid, he’d always say that he wanted to become an archaeologist when he grows up… and while this isn’t necessarily something he’d consider his “dream job”, he probably wouldn’t mind being a stay-at-home dad.
38. Does your sim have any siblings? I’ve probably mentioned her like, what, ten times by now? Annika, his younger sister. He loves that kid to bits.
39. Does your sim get along with their family? He does, yes. His dad and sister are all he has left and he cherishes them above everything else.
40. What is your sim’s favourite hobby? Fishing! He started doing it out of bare necessity after his family got stranded in Wyvern’s Bay, but he really came to enjoy it as a hobby as well.
41. What does your sim look for in a romantic partner? Kindness, respect, loyalty, and above all, a lot of love and affection. Marcus’ ideal partner is someone who isn’t afraid to shower him with love and who will, in turn, allow him to love them just as much.
42. What is a secret about your sim? He cries like rain to sad movies, which is why he avoids watching them in the company of others… he may be a certified softie, but he still has his dignity.
43. What is a wish your sim has? For his family to find a safe place to live. That’s all he asks for, really. ;_____;
44. What is a flaw your sim has? He’s very emotional and tends to let negative comments get to him a bit too easily… He also has a tendency to get overly defensive when he’s been hurt.
45. How do others generally perceive your sim? Very nice, soft-spoken, a bit shy.
46. Does your sim have a greatest achievement? Surviving the total annihilation of your hometown, surviving a shipwreck, AND surviving in a fiendish new environment is a pretty big achievement, I’d say.
47. If they have one, what is your sim’s greatest regret? Not spending more time with his mother while she was still alive. Or rather, not making the most out of the time he had with her.
48. Does your sim have a favourite emoji? Long gone are the days when he used to have a phone for texting… but back when he did, his most used emoji was a plain old smiley face.
49. Does your sim use simstagram? No electricity, no social media. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  Though he was never much of a simstagram user even when he had the necessary equipment… he only had an account because all the other kids had one.
50. What is the last text your sim sent (and who did they text)? “I’m gonna b late. Sorry” - sent to a classmate he was supposed to do a school project with. Needless to say, they never got to meet up for that project…

Interviewing Project Zearth family friend Russicat!
Was able to sneak this one last interview inn for a special person. Russicat been a huge inspiration to follow the past years. Always loved having him over helping us with the project! Great potential and hard working efforts. Mix that with his knowledge of the game and you get some of his best work. Thanks for letting me do this interview of you. Enjoy!
1) Where are you from and how old are you?
I'm from Idaho, USA, and am currently 18.
2) How did you become a Project Zearth builder?
I became a builder because of Xoy primarily. He's the one that got in contact with me first, and when opportunity arose I came on as a builder to help out. It wasn't really on official position at first, but more or less has become one.
3) What is your favorite thing to do in Minecraft?
I'd say my favorite thing to do in Minecraft is build. It depends on what I want to build at the time, but lighthouses are my favorite. Always enjoy building a good lighthouse. Survive is fun too, and in my opinion can make building more fun as well.
4) How is your experience here on Project Zearth?
It's been really fun working on Project Zearth, the community and everything. It really is an experience, the good times, bad times, and even sad times. You can get it all, but it's definitely the community that makes it great.
5) What are your plans for future Minecrafting?
Oh, finally release the latest version of Valcour, just need to do that... Also I started on a castle that I'm really looking forward to complete. Otherwise I don't know what else the future of minecrafting holds.
6) When did you start playing Minecraft?
I started playing Minecraft in 2012 on the good ol' Xbox 360 version. I got the PC version for Christmas that year and have played it there since then.
7) Whats your favorite thing done on the Project?
Ah, yeah, there are so many to choose from it's hard to say. It's been fun working on a number of miscellaneous projects for the time I've been on here. I'd say building The Land of the Candy Canes, often just called Candy Cane Land with Bubblegum_Wolf in the fall of 2018 was quite fun. Though I'd say it's always fun when Xoy takes you on a little trip around the map and talks to you about it and tells stories and all sorts of things. That's always a good time.
Tumblr media
Thank you Russicat!

Ryukishi07′s Q&A at Animecon in Finland
Full Q&A video:
Part 1: https://youtu.be/DBQe_zsF-tk
Part 2: https://youtu.be/WOh-MWhv4UE
Translation under the cut:
Part 1:
Interviewer: Could you start out with explaining how your career started and how the circle 07th Expansion was born?
Ryukishi07: It’s a very boring story, but I just thought about what I wanted to do with my life and simply decided to try what I wanted to do, and this is what happened!
I: Your career started in doujinshi circuits. What’s it like making games for an audience similar to Comiket?
R: I did work for an audience similar to Comiket happening in August and it’s been very stressful but also rewarding.
I: Wasn’t there another happening in December as well?
R: For the happening in August there’s a lot of time to do work to prepare, but for the happening in December there’s only 4 months to prepare which makes it harder.
I: Could you tell us how your masterpiece Higurashi no Naku Koro ni was born?
R: I got an idea from the American movie The Blair Witch Project and thought it’d be fun to make a Japanese version of the movie’s scenario.
I: Higurashi is told through many stories that raise questions about the plot, questions which are then answered in the later games. Where did the idea for constructing the plot like this come from?
R: By drinking Coca-Cola, you get a lot of ideas! *laughter*
I: Which character is your favourite in Higurashi?
R: It depends a lot on when you ask the question because it changes for me all the time, but at the moment it’s Satoko Hojo.
I: 07th Expansion’s games are described as sound novels, where the world of sound plays an important role. How does this affect the writing?
R: For example, you can hear sound in an anime. I wanted to combine anime, manga and visual novels and create my own coherent ”chain”.
I: Your games have been released for various consoles. PC, Playstation, and Nintendo DS. Do you have a favourite console?
R: At the moment it’s either Playstation 4 or Nintendo Switch.
I: The When They Cry series later became very popular and was made into manga, anime and even movie adaptions. How does this popularity feel?
R: I’m very grateful for all the support that I get from everyone.
I: Was it possible to imagine, when making the first Higurashi, that it would ever become this popular?
R: In my dreams I thought it’d be amazing to become that popular, but of course it was still a surprise.
I: Nowadays a lot of visual novels use shocking and horror elements. Do you feel like Higurashi was a ”trendsetter” in that regard?
R: I feel like works like that existed before as well, I don’t feel like a ”trendsetter”. I’m an especially big fan of Kamaitachi no Yoru, it was an inspiration for me because it was also connected to horror, so I wanted to a work with horror as well. It was presumed that sound novels were mostly based on horror, but nowadays you can find a lot of cute girls in them as well. But even these cute girls can be horrifying! *laughter*
I: After the Higurashi series, there was Umineko no Naku Koro ni. What inspired you to write it?
R: I wanted to make a more Western-based story, since I previously made a story based on Japanese country life.
I: Did you have to do any background research for writing Umineko?
R: I went to a small island where there was believed to be a ghost. Of course there was no ghost but I tried to capture the feeling from that island, but since there wasn’t actually a ghost there I had to come up with some white lies in my work. *laughter* It was challenging, since there wasn’t actually anything on that island.
I: What motivated you to show clearer answers in the Umineko manga?
R: Because as the final release, I thought it would make it special.
I: In Umineko there is a character named Yasu, whose persona and feelings are presented to the reader indirectly through the stories she has written. How was the process of creating this character?
R: From the start, I had considered a character who was a criminal, but then felt like that would be too extra, and so I ended up with a character like Yasu.
I: There are apparently plans for a new episode of Umineko, could you tell us about this?
R: There will be a new character, who will be revealed soon, so be prepared for that.
I: There is also a new When They Cry game in the works, could you tell us more about this?
 Part 2:
R: It will be more international this time, and there might even be a Finnish character!
I: Higurashi refers to cicadas, while Umineko refers to seagulls. Do you already know what the next When They Cry series will refer to?
R: I haven’t decided yet, but I want it to have the same theme, like being connected to plants and rain. It’s still in the works, please wait and be excited.
I: Do you know if the new part will be released in English?
R: If someone is ready to translate, then absolutely. My English abilities aren’t enough for this.
I: What’s your opinion on the games being translated to English and gaining an international audience?
R: I’m very thankful and appreciate that people have been able and wanted to translate my works. I see a lot of appreciation for the translators and they’ve definitely had a lot to work with.
I: You’ve previously worked with Key Studio on their game Rewrite. Rewrite’s art director Itaru Hinoue also visited Finland this year. When working on Rewrite, did the two of you get to work together?
R: Yes, it was our first time working together.
I: Who are your favourite characters from the game Trianthology?
R: There are a lot of characters, but Alice is my favourite.
I: A game called Iwaihime is also in the works. Could you tell us about this?
R: I was asked for a horror work and I decided that since there are primarily two types of horror in Japan, creepy horror and horror that focuses on monsters, I wanted to bring these two types of horror out in the finished work.
I: Video games are very popular today, perhaps more than ever before. How well do you think visual novels are surviving in the video game genre?
R: I hope that it could become as big of a thing as novels, anime and manga, and I think it has a chance, but at the moment smart phone games are more popular in Japan, which makes me a bit sad but I’m still hopeful.
I: Which work you’ve written are you most satisfied with?
R: A very hard question... *laughter* It’s always the one I’ve most recently released that I’m the most satisfied with.
I: How do you stay motivated when writing?
R: At the moment I’m very motivated simply because work is work, but previously my motivation was that I played war video games on the Xbox and when I lost, it made me so angry that I wanted to work! *laughter*
I: You said that your most recent work is always the one you’re most happy with. If you could go back and change something about an earlier work like Higurashi or Umineko, would you change anything?
R: I gave it my all, so there’s nothing I would like to change. If I changed something, that would make it an entirely different story. A lot of people ask me about going back 10 years in time, but 10 years back in time would mean that the pages would be empty, there wouldn’t be any text yet, which would probably mean playing a lot of games!
I: What other hobbies do you have beside playing war video games?
R: All kinds of killing games!
I: What’s your favourite anime?
R: Girls und Panzer.
I: What’s your favourite game?
R: Even though I like war video games, I also like zombie video games.
I: What’s the best thing about your work?
R: The state of flow, when you’re so focused on your work that you forget to eat and even to go to the bathroom.
I: When you write a story, how do you come up with the characters? Do you get any inspiration from other characters or real people?
R: I want to connect older characters to newer characters, it’s very important to me to make that connection. But sometimes when playing games I just see a character that I think is cute and it gives me inspiration.
I: Have you ever thought about adding your old characters in a new game, like for example having the characters from Higurashi in a new story?
R: Inside my head, these characters are my friends, but now that the work on that story is done, these characters are gone. But if I had to work with the same story, the characters would probably return back into my head.
I: What advice do you have to aspiring writers and visual novel creators?
R: Seriously or not seriously? It’s important to think of your own style. If you want to make it your job, it’s very important to know what your own thing is. There are three different styles: liking money, wanting praise from other people, and just liking writing. So if you like writing, but also like getting money from it, that’s very good! You should consider, even though there are people who write and write and write without making money, money is still a big motivation. And even though you like getting money, you should also want to write because you enjoy it, that’s more important.
I: What kind of stories do you like writing the most?
R: Of course it’s fun to think about women with big boobs, but it’s also fun to think about environmental issues... *laughter*
I: You’re mostly known for writing games, but would you ever want to try making an anime?
R: I don’t think I’m good enough at drawing for creating it, but if someone else would do that I would be very proud and happy.
I: Our interview is coming to a close. Is there still anything you would like to tell the audience?
R: I want to complain about how warm Finland is, I had heard about how cold Finland is and only brought long-sleeved shirts, and then I got here and it was sultry and far too warm, so I would like to say that nobody told me Finland would be warm!
