Thank you so much! Sorry for being late, I’ve been a bit busy. This request was adorable but I’m afraid I might have shifted my focus on “protective brother” Katsura instead than Takasugi’s feelings. I also apologize, this isn’t my best work. Writing Takasugi is extremely difficult. Anyway, hope you enjoy :)

When you told your brother Katsura that you wanted to become a samurai he was outraged. Not really because you’re a woman but because he wanted to protect you. You’re one of the most important people in his life and his only family left so, obviously, he didn’t want you to get hurt. 

He had to change his mind when he saw how stubbornly dedicated you were and at the end of the day he couldn’t help but admit that you were a better samurai than many others, both for your sword skills and moral code. 

You met the other members of the Joui 4 when you were fighting the Amanto and Gintoki and Sakamoto mistook you for Katsura.

"Oi Zura, on your left!" warned Gintoki “That’s not like you Zura, since when are you this distracted?” said Sakamoto with his obnoxious laugh.

You can imagine their surprise when Katsura popped out of nowhere to slash some Amanto that were going to attack them.

Sakamoto and Gintoki stared at the two of you like lost puppies.

Oi, Kintoki. Why are there two Zuras?

You obviously waited until the end of the fight to explain them that you were his sister and not some twisted clone. That’s when you met Takasugi. He heard all the ruckus and approached his group of misfit friends to understand what was going on.

He was very surprised to learn that you were Katsura’s sister. While you two looked similar, your personalities seemed very different: you were calmer and more serious than Katsura and weren’t nearly as chaotic as he could be. 

You bonded over being the quiet ones in a group of loud people.

You were always together, even in battle. It was like you two were in your own world covering each other’s back like a twisted dance of blood and ashes. 

That didn’t mean that you didn’t get along with the other Joui, you were actually everyone’s little sister.

If the first time you met Gintoki and Sakamoto they mistook you for Katsura, with time they started mistaking your brother for you which caused some pretty funny misunderstandings.

One time, however, they went to tease you about your crush for Takasugi (they might look stupid, but they can be surprisingly sharp when they want to)   only to find out they were speaking with Katsura.

Well, well Y/N-chan… where is your beloved Takasugi?

Yeah, when are you going to confess your undying eternal love for him?

Katsura had no idea you had those kind of feelings for his comrade so when he found out, he freaked out. Bad. How could he not understand it sooner? 

For a long time, he started following you and Takasugi around to see if what his friends said was true. 

It was. 

He noticed the way you looked at Takasugi but, also, the way he looked at you. Katsura knew Takasugi was a cold man, ruthless even, yet he couldn’t deny that the man cared about you. He noticed that his brother in arms’ eyes weren’t as sharp and menacing when he was around you, that he was unusually gentle and caring.

He tortured himself for a while, unsure what to do, until one day he couldn’t do it anymore So, much to your displeasure and embarassment, he acted.

Takasugi! I will not tolerate this anymore. You cannot see my sister anymore unless you take her as a bride. You have no idea how painful it is to see you two pine for each other like this, I want grandkids!

Katsura… You’re my brother not my father, you can’t have grandkids from me.

Then I want to be an aunt or an uncle!

At that very moment you didn’t know whether you wanted to kill your brother or yourself, but when Takasugi replied you were quite happy he spoke up.

I think I’ll hold you to that, Katsura.

Gintoki & Sakamoto React to S/O Asking for a Hug But Suddenly Cries

I'm going to assume in this situation stress has been building up and the hug is what burst the bubble.

gintoki's not really a hugger (he's more for head pats) so it already takes some convincing to get him to give a hug.

suddenly crying afterwards would really shock him.

"why are you crying?! you asked for the hug?! what kind of mind games are you trying to play with me?!"

he's super thrown off balance which causes him to not respond well.

"I'm sorry, it's just a lot has been going on and I didn't want to bother you with my problems. I just really needed a hug."

"stupid, why would I be bothered by your problems? did you forget what the yorozuya does? what's wrong?"

he quietly listens as his s/o vents out everything through the tears.

he'll rub their back as they go on until they've gotten everything out of their system.

once the crying has finally stopped he wipes his s/o's face to remove the dampness.

gives a quick kiss on the forehead before patting their head.

tells them they're going to be okay and to not be afraid to come to him if they ever need help.

offers to go drinking to try to help them feel better. 

if they happen to drunk ramble about their problems more, he’ll just give advice.

tells them what they need to hear.

like he does with every character who happens to vent around him.

gintoki's an asshole, but he hates seeing others cry especially those close to him.

this panel makes me so emotional omg sorachi-sensei how dare you.

it even takes him a few moments before he notices they’ve started crying. 

bear hugs his s/o, the man doesn’t realize the flood gates he just opened.

he’s squeezing them so tight while laughing and talking about how sweet he thinks it is that they wanted a hug. 

once he notices them crying he starts to panic.

thinks that it’s because he was squeezing them too hard and that he ended up hurting them.

“ah! what’s wrong?! was I squeezing you too hard? I’m sorry I’m should’ve noticed. are you hurt?! 

as his s/o calms down and explains it was from stress he sighs deeply in relief (that he didn’t physically hurt them).

ask why they were stressed. 

he’ll try to offer some kind of way to help after they explain what was the cause. 

it’s actually fairly simple. 

“you know when I feel stressed I just laugh.”

“but tatsuma...you’re always laughing.”

“haha that doesn’t mean it’s always from stress. you know what they say, laughter is the best medicine.”

he ends up making them laugh with his ridiculousness.

in the end, he was right and they feel better after.

Sakata Gintoki:

He is definitely looking for a girl with humor.

He just wants someone who can make him laugh and in general have fun with.

Sakata can't bear hard feelings, they really ruin his mood so he is definitely looking for a cheerful and positive girl.

Someone who doesn't take things seriously, at least not everything and doesn't whine when something wrong happens.

Sakata likes carefree people so this is what he is looking for in a girl.

Katsura Kotarou:

This boy is definitely looking for a serious but caring girl.

An understanding and thoughtful person that won't turn her back on him.

He also likes girls who are smart and responsible.

First off hello there, how are you? And if I may, can I request a Joui 4 x reader? Where they react to their s/o being pregnant, and having a child that comes out exactly like them personality wise.

A/N: Sure thing! I actually have done an elaborate version of how Takasugi would react to his s/o being pregnant and having kids in general and I'll do a similar one for Gintoki too. But the personality wise thing is something I haven't considered much, so, I'll press on it more in this request. Oh, and I'm good, thanks for asking!

Joui 4 reacting to their kids' personality being exactly like theirs

Gintoki feat. Gin jr

At first, he might get cold feet. Child means money, money means expenses, expenses means well, borderline poverty to him. Plus, Gin is very childish and has plenty of trauma, so that might make him question his parenting abilities too. He might even come off as rude when his S/O first talks to him about her pregnancy, asking if she really wants to keep it.

At the end, he'd come to accept the situation for what it is and wouldn't run away from his responsibilities, despite his initial awkward reaction. He'd be happy that you were creating a family together, even if that meant running a few more errands.

I feel like Gintoki would try his best to be diligent when raising the child, hoping that his kid would turn into an upstanding citizen. But how can that be possible when their own father is a manchild? It would totally backfire, and before he could realize it, he was facing yet another mini him.

The kid would be rude, childish, lazy yet competitive and of course, would have a huge craving for sweets. I can see him coming to realize their resemblance only once Gin jr. steals his candy without asking or something. It looked as if the kid had only inherited his bad traits and that would frustrate Gintoki for sure.

I don't see them getting along too well, mainly because of their clashing personalities. Gin doesn't have the best relationships with people who resemble him in one way or the other (think Hijikata, Tsukuyo or even Takasugi) and so, I can see the two of them getting very competitive with each other.

Don't tell me that you can't see Gin trying his best to beat his own kid at board games. Don't tell me that you can't see Gin stealing his kid's desserts and eating them in front of their faces just to mock them. And finally, don't tell me you can't see Gin jr. playing jokes on his dad all the time.

Yet, despite all their differences or rather similarities, Gin would come to love his own child, especially when he considered that the kid hadn't just taken on all his negative traits, but also his positive traits. Gin jr. was considerate and always helped others, the kid's moral code being exactly the same as his father's. They'd be the perfect heir to Yorozuya and that made Gin really proud, whether he admitted it or not.

Finally, while I don't see him being too affectionate after his kid grows up a bit, I feel like he'd be there for them all the time. He'd be a very good dad and would often indulge into Gin jr.'s whims, and, the two of them would oftentimes spend their time together

Having two Gins is both nightmare material, yet wholesome!

Katsura feat. Zura jr

Why do I feel as if for one second, it wouldn't register that his S/O was pregnant to his child, and he'd congratulate her on her pregnancy as if he wasn't the father? Isn't that the most Zura thing ever? Once he'd realize the child was his, I'd expect him to be very pleased over the pregnancy. Katsura is one of those really traditional samurai who uphold family values and all that. But once the thought would start to sink in, he'd definitely begin to overreact. From turning into an overbearing dad who buys everything for their unborn child (without even knowing the gender), to someone who gets cold feet and runs off, doing weird shit. Both are equally possible when it comes to Katsura.

After the child is born, he'd be able to calm down and handle it way better. He'd be very considerate and sweet towards both you and the child, taking care of the two of you.

However, what would happen once the child begun to show their natural zura-ness? Honestly, I doubt Katsura would even notice. He'd be completely oblivious to it. Even if someone sat him down and pointed at every single aspect of them being familiar to one another, he still would not see it. He'd just think of his child as a great person and would be proud of them without ever considering how it's basically a mini him.

Since Katsura used to be a particularly gifted and intelligent child, I can see Zura jr also being like that at first. He'd be a great student, very diligent and empathetic, but slowly he'd start showing more symptoms of Zuraness. He'd have a knack for drama and would be beyond dense. Perhaps he gets an imaginary friend at one point and makes entire scenarios about him. Of course, Katsura would scold him about that... because his scenarios weren't good enough and he'd have to help him remake them together.

Also, I can see Zura jr and Katsura turning into best friends (rip Elizabeth), doing all sort of common activities together. Every time Katsura discovers a new thing that their kid likes and he also does, he'd be amazed and would probably commend on their behavior. He'd spend lots of time with his kid and would have no reason raising it properly. Even if he tries to be strict, the kid ends up following his teachings and they develop a mentor/student kind of relationship, his kid closely following his bushido.

Oh and,I would expect them to both engage into crazy shenanigans and stunts together. They might drive you a bit insane but hey, at the end of the day, two Zuras isn't so bad! Double the kindness, double the love.

Takasugi feat. Sugi jr

He'd be the one with the weirdest reaction. Takasugi never really considered the possibility of going steady with someone, let alone having a child with them. Accepting the pregnancy would be hard for him, plus, he'd doubt himself a lot during that period. Could he even raise a child? Was he even worthy of doing so? Well, going back was no option and so sooner or later he'd come to accept his responsibilities. (more information on Takasugi as a father here)

Unlike Gin and Zura who would be close to their child at first, I think that Takasugi wouldn't be able to handle that, which funnily enough would be one of the factors as to why the kid turns out to resemble him this much. There would be an initial distance between them, so him realizing their similarities would take some time, but he'd be quick to notice it. Takasugi is very perceptive, after all.

At first, he'd have mixed feelings. He might have a hard time dealing with his own child, considering he, himself, isn't an easy person to handle. Also, he might honestly feel a bit guilty that the child is turning out to be just like him. It's not as if he had the happiest life and he wouldn't want his child to go down the same path.

However, because of how similar they'd be, Takasugi would pretty much be the only one who could successfully understand his kid. Even if he wasn't always there for them, he'd make sure that they establish a bond and that his kid can confide to him at any given time. Of course, that wouldn't happen too often because just like his father, kid Sugi would be a handful. But they'd warm up to each other and I feel like Takasugi would be to Sugi jr what Shouyou was to him.

Also, this is where I'd like to state that it goes both ways. Sugi jr is able to peer into the soul of his father, and that is something that Takasugi finds borderline disturbing, yet also amusing. People have a hard time fully grasping him, and although it might be overwhelming at first, he'd be proud to see his child resembling him in that aspect. (why do i feel as if they are two psychic pokemon that cancel out one another lmao)

Finally, I can see a bit of potential clashing between the two of them, but on a healthier level than Gin and his kid. Sugi jr would be as stubborn as Takasugi is, having a strong sense of justice and competitiveness. He would totally get into fights with others, even adults and the best part was that he would win most of them. Even if Takasugi goes all strict dad on him, part of him would be very proud and would reward him for his fighting skills. Like father like son I guess.

No matter what road his kid ends up taking, I think he would support them in his own kinda way and the two of them wouldn't have that much of a rocky relationship. He'd do his best to be a good father to them, hoping that by doing so, he could provide his own kid with a better childhood and an even better future.

Sakamoto feat. Tatsuma jr

When Tatsuma finds out about your pregnancy, he is ecstatic! They are amazing news to him and he doesn't think twice before going as far as to even throwing a party, in order to celebrate the news properly. Probably gets wasted and keeps hugging your belly in front of everyone, trying to feel the baby when it hasn't been more than 2 months. Even if you tell him, he'll keep doing it and be convinced he can hear it kick. Oh, and let's not forget about how your child will have E V E R Y T H I N G even before they were born. He'd spoil them rotten, I am 100% sure.

I'm not sure if he'd realize how much his kid resembles him, after said kid has grown up a bit. It's not that he'd blatantly deny it like Katsura would, more like he'd laugh it off if anyone pointed it out and would ask them if they really think so.

Naturally, his kid resembled him in every way possible, from his overly optimistic attitude, to his hobbies and ship passion. I can see Tatsuma taking his kid out for a ship ride, even letting them take on the wheel. Yeah, chances are they got into an accident while Mutsu and you gave them a lecture on child endangerment. Of course neither would take you seriously, and it wouldn't be too surprising if they both ended up barfing at you before laughing at your expression.

Speaking of laughter, this is one of their shared traits. People can tell when Sakamoto and his child walk in before they do, just from the sound they make. Prepare for trouble and make it double, basically.

There really isn't that much to say about Sakamoto and Sakamoto jr's relationship, because I feel they'd get along perfectly well! He'd love taking his child to work with him, showing him the universe and all of his favorite planets, while the kid would be excited out of his brain. All those common dad/son activities you see in the movies, such as fixing a car together -in this case ships, I guess- is what I can see Sakamoto and his child doing.

Also, for some reason, I can see Sakamoto's mischievous nature hitting its peak whenever he is with his child. The two of them would pull all sorts of pranks on you and auntie Mutsu, their laughter as they run away being what betrays them. Can't blame them, your reactions were hilarious after all.

I know I said that Katsura and Zura jr would have the best relationship but honestly, it might be on par with Sakamoto and Tatsuma jr. The two would have a completely unproblematic relationship, the only drawback being that they'd constantly end up in dangerous situations together.

sakamutsu headcanons

two years ago, i was a massive gintama whore. i was a even more massive sakamutsu whore and in my spare time i wrote sakamutsu headcanons to keep meself happy.

here are some:

In their early years of knowing each other, Mutsu would sometimes sleep in Sakamoto's bed because she would have trouble sleeping alone. She would often get nightmares and would need to be patted to sleep by Sakamoto. Everyone talked and joked about how Sakamoto adopted Mutsu as his daughter. This eventually stopped two years later. Nowadays, Sakamoto has a habit of sleeping in Mutsu's bed even though she has expressed her distaste of it. This would happen a lot more when Sakamoto is drunk and cannot remember where his room is.

Once, in present years, Mutsu and Sakamoto did sleep in the same bed again. It was when they were at a hotel for business but there was only one bed. Mutsu shifted far from Sakamoto, and all Sakamoto could think was how much she changed. Her hair grew longer. Her voice got lower. She became stronger. She became sort of distant. And also, that she was pretty. For someone who was razor tongued, she was surprisingly peaceful when she's asleep.

Once, 14 year old Mutsu broke down in front of Sakamoto. She talked about her father's death and how she was upset that she never got to be by his side on his death bed. She had explained that she didn't like her father that much, but she felt like she had a responsibility as her daughter, especially after her mother was long gone.

The whole fleet and ship secretly likes to talk about Sakamoto and Mutsu being a couple behind their backs.

Some quick little headcanons about Sakamoto's siblings since I mentioned them before:

The oldest of the Sakamoto siblings is Asaka [meaning 'bear']. She's an established samurai in the family and is the one who taught Tatsuma how to fight. Severe and stern, she inherited the sake brewery from their father, and runs it as one of Tosa's main exports. She takes great pride in having inherited the very business that put their family name on the map

Second oldest is Eiko ['prosperous']. Quiet and reserved, she took their father's legacy the most seriously and has spent her life buying up many other businesses to create an empire within the Tosa region, solidifying the family's roots. She has four children but is hoping for more

Next is the brother, Kohei ['navigator']. Despite being a commander of a small navy, Kohei has very little skill in the manner of seafare and much prefers lazing behind a desk doing paperwork. As such, knowing of his brother's love for ships, he often got Tatsuma to fill in for him, which is how Tatsuma ends up being mistaken for a leader of men and joining the war

And the last of them all is Noriko ['law/order']. Despite their name, Noriko is the rowdiest of the siblings, and deals in the trade of weaponry, with a special interest in firearms. To Tatsuma, Noriko is the dangerous one, as they are more than willing to side with whoever is the highest bidder regardless of morals, simply happy to see their weapons put to good use and even witsfully reminiscing on the profits they gained in the rebel war

Tatsuma gets along with his siblings well enough, but wouldn't consider himself as being particularly close to any of them. Their family is old and strict and the Sakamoto lineage has long since learned how to fool outsiders into believing they are a much more loving family than the reality. 'Sakamoto' is a brand name and they will do anything necessary to sell the right image

The above is why Tatsuma is so passionate about giving instead of taking. It's his own way of rebelling against his family and their values - that anything can be brought with the right price. This is also why his own viewpoint of the world is that it runs on profit

All 5 of the siblings have different mothers. Asaka's mother was of noble samurai lineage, Eiko's a low-born servant, Kohei's mother a politician and Noriko's a simple housewife. Tatsuma's mother was a Yato called Ryouka and he has many fond memories of her

Sakamoto is so endearingly sappy. His S/O is like his best friend, so going to sleep at night feels like a sleepover at a best friend's house back in his youth.

You both peel the covers and cram in there, legs already tangled up in knots. Physical touch and quality time are his love languages, so this is his prime time! He has a huge, fixed smile the entire time you're together

"Y/N! Turn around, guess what I'm writing on your back." He often did this, usually wasting his S/O's time writing something childish, but often he would just write words that streamed his consciousness

it was episode 136.

gintoki & madao were trying to find a temporary place for madao to stay since his wife was coming to visit.

they were finally shown a clearly haunted hotel room that looked like a recent murder scene.

gintoki was trying to convince madao into staying at the hotel by comparing rooms with women by saying good rooms & women have already been 'done'.

he said and I quote,

he goes on to say how the girl must've gotten with some loser over summer vacation (hence being 'done').

and how you wouldn't try and ask what happened over summer break.

because it'd be a huge turn off.

of course he doesn’t recognize his joui crush or know who they are until they introduce themselves again. 

he’s glad to see someone else other than katsura, sakamoto, and takasugi who survived the war.

considering his guard is constantly up due to being one of the most wanted criminals.

he is cautious at first when his joui crush approaches him.

after all acting like a joui rebel wouldn't be a surprising strategy for a spy.

it'll take a little convincing before it finally hits him that this is actually who they say they are.

once it does he somewhat teases them about changing their hair color.

"my, I didn't even recognize you (y/n)-chan. you dye your hair so the bakufu wouldn’t recognize you as a former joui rebel?"

he’s not wrong a benefit of having dyed their hair is that it's a good disguise.
