Y’shtola has always found Corisande difficult to look away from, some inexorable pull between them perpetually drawing her gaze. She turned toward them as a blossom sought the sun, unfurling in their light and basking in the warmth of it. Even when Y’shtola lost her sight and the world lost its color, Corisande’s familiar aether was more than enough to draw her in, their countenance so dear to her that it hardly took any effort at all to pick out their features.
In the grand entrance hall of Emet-Selch’s recreated Capitol building, the light Corisande emanates is not the kind Y’shtola wants to bask in. They are a beacon of aether, so bright they blur the forms of the other Scions gathered around them. So bright the light lingers even when she closes her eyes, a ghostly blur haunting the back of her eyelids.
She watches them as they take their leave of the others and turn toward her, seeking her out as surely as she sought them. They cross the hall, the soft click of their boots growing louder as they approach. 
“The others are nearly ready. Ryne only wants to charge a few more cartridges for Thancred before we start on our way,” Corisande says, gesturing at the others over her shoulder, gathered by the door that leads deeper into the building. She lifts her hand, starting to reach for Y’shtola, but stops herself halfway, arm falling stiffly to her side. ‘Tis difficult to make out, but Y’shtola thinks she might be clenching her fist. “I came to see how you fared.” 
Y’shtola holds back a sigh, her jaw clenched against the sharp pain in her chest at the aborted gesture. In the three years she’d spent without them on the First, she had so missed the easy physical affection between them. A reassuring squeeze of her wrist, a gentle hand on the small of her back, a soft brush of their thumb across her cheek. Touches she had at times wished Corisande would not make, if only to spare Y’shtola the misery of her endlessly growing feelings. 
But she’d been wrong to think it would spare her any pain. Since their reunion—that near disastrous moment when Y’shtola had mistaken them for a sin eater—Corisande has, for the most part, kept a careful physical distance between them. Every deliberate step back, every halted reach for her hand, left her far more hurt and confused than any touch that had ever led her to hope for more. 
That they keep their distance even now, when losing themself to the light is becoming less a potential threat and more a rapidly approaching reality with every passing moment, is more than she can bear. She reaches for their hand in their stead, pressing their cool palm to hers. “l have no preparations to make. I will be ready when you are.”
Corisande tips their chin, head tilting down in the direction of their joined hands. Y’shtola holds fast, hope swooping through her stomach, her breath caught in her chest as she waits. But rather than pull away, they squeeze her hand, and the ache in Y’shtola’s chest is eased as she finally exhales. 
Corisande lifts her head in Y’shtola’s direction, her familiar features—the heart shape of her lips, the curve of her nose, her downturned eyes—just as obfuscated by the light as the rest of her body. There was a time that Y’shtola could have known what Corisande was thinking just by a simple shared glance. Now, though she could make her best guess, she could never be sure what was written in their expression. What Y’shtola might give to see the curve of Corisande’s gentle smile once more, before they venture toward a battle that could change her forever. 
Y’shtola glances down at their hands, still pressed palm to palm between them. Corisande had not shied from one touch—perhaps she would not shy from another. 
Do as your heart decrees, Y’shtola had told them, only moments ago. Without hesitation or regret. 
Y’shtola raises her free hand to Corisande’s cheek, heartbeat a loud, steady rhythm as she moves. They lean down ever so slightly to meet her, their hair falling over her arm, the ends of it brushing lightly against her sleeve. She stills when their fingers wrap gently around her wrist, thinking they mean to tug her hand away, but they simply hold on.
“Is it difficult? To look at me? To—” Corisande’s grip on her wrist tightens. Their voice is soft, almost fragile to Y’shtola’s ears. “I know the toll a surfeit of aether takes on you. It must be exhausting just to have me near.”
“‘Tis not easy,” Y’shtola admits, though it pains her to say it. Corisande knows the truth already—the abundance of their aether is difficult for Y’shtola to process with her aether-fueled sight—and Y’shtola would not lie to her besides. 
Worse than the harsh glare of their aether, though, is the damage the light has wrought on their soul, battered and bruised as it struggles to contain the light. For all the distance that Corisande has kept between them these past few weeks, they could not hide the depth of the wound from Y’shtola. While she knew Corisande would prefer it, Y’shtola saw no kindness in pretending otherwise—she would not turn from them when they were in pain, no matter how much it hurt to see. 
Y’shtola sweeps her thumb across the swell of Corisande’s cheek, and hopes she’s looking her in the eye when she speaks again. “But I would no sooner look away than I would leave you to face what lies ahead alone.”
Corisande’s smile blooms under Y’shtola’s palm—cheek curving upward, the quirk in the corner of their lips where they’ve turned into her touch, the crinkle of skin around their eyes—and she answers with a warm smile of her own. Corisande sweeps a finger across the inside of her wrist, and after weeks—years—of so little contact between them, the deliberate touch feels monumental, as much a relief to the longing inside her as it is a catalyst for a desperate desire for more. 
“Shtola,” they say, the newly restored warmth in their voice reigniting that flame of hope in her. The one that made her long for Corisande’s soft touches, that made her think Corisande has always felt about her the way she feels about them, the one that never quite went out. “I—”
They cut off with a soft whimper of pain, lurching forward with a grimace. Their grip clamps down sharply where they hold Y’shtola, fingers digging into her wrist and the back of her hand, and she feels the hold as if it were a vice around her heart, pressed under the weight of their pain. The light inside them surges, brightening and straining against their soul as Corisande struggles to stay on their feet, and then it fades.
“Are you all right?” Y’shtola asks, keeping her tone neutral though she feels anything but, unable to even blink away the image of the surging light. Corisande straightens, her expression smoothing beneath Y’shtola’s hand. 
“Well enough,” she answers between breaths, her voice thin. She squeezes Y’shtola’s wrist, then gently tugs her hand away from her face, though she does not completely release her. “Perhaps we had better be on our way.”
“Of course.” Y’shtola expects Corisande to drop her hands, but they hold on to one as they pivot, placing themself at her side. 
The door that will lead them to Emet-Selch looms before them, the others still gathered in front of it. Whatever they face beyond it, whatever Corisande’s heart decrees, Y’shtola would not turn her gaze. They would face it together—perhaps not hand in hand, but side by side.

“What happened to you?” little Cece Lannister says when you walk into her room the following day, “You look terrible.”
There’s something about kids; like they’ve been force-fed truth serum and have to say the first thought that comes to their mind. You cock your head to the side, a smile tugging at the corner of your mouth. 
“Cerelle,” her mother hisses, cheeks red at her daughter’s brutal honesty. 
“What?” Cece says, eyebrows creasing together, “She does.”
“It’s okay, really,” you tell Mrs. Lannister, as she scolds her daughter again, “Maybe I should get a bed next to you.”
Cece shakes her head, golden curls vibrating as she does. Her hospital gown hangs too big, drooping off her thin shoulders. You wonder if she’s been eating much more than the ice cream they serve after dinner. 
“No roommates, please. I like my alone time; I get to choose whatever station I want,” she says smiling, holding the remote control to the television on the wall. 
“How’re you feeling this morning Cece?” you ask, reaching for the chart that hangs at the foot of her bed. 
The nurses of Citadel General are on top of everything; without them, the hospital would not be able to function. You flip through her chart, eyes scanning her nighttime vitals. 
“Okay,” Cece says, tugging the ear of her stuffed lion.
“I see they increased her muscle relaxant,” you note, “Did you have a hard time sleeping?”
“She always does but I think the spasms are getting worse, especially at night,” Mrs. Lannister says, concerned in her voice. 
“Are you gonna have a scar?” Cece chimes in, pointing to her temple, mirroring where your stitches are.
“Cece-”
“Probably not,” you tell her, giving Mrs. Lannister a small smile, “The doctors here are pretty good you know.”
Cece leans over in her bed, pulling out a small toy doctor kit. 
“I’m a good doctor too,” she says, rummaging through the bag, “Tyrion has had extensive surgical procedures.”
She points at her stuffed lion, and you suddenly notice the different array of bandages and band-aids covering the golden fur. 
“Oh has he?” you ask, as Cece pats the bed beside her. You move to sit on the edge of the bed, holding her chart across your lap.
“Yes,” Cece says, holding out an assortment of bandaids for you to choose from, “I’ll let you choose. I like pink the best.”
You smile, pointing at the pink bandaid with yellow paw prints decorating it. Cece smiles, approving your choice. She peels the backing before pressing the bandage over your stitches, gently pressing on the edges to make sure it sticks.
“There, much better,” she tells you.
“Thank you, Dr. Lannister,” you tell her, which causes her to smile.

“There she is!” Jace calls as you arrive at the nurses' station. His face scrunches as he looks at your forehead, “Nice bandaid.”
“Thanks,” you say, touching the pink bandage, “Courtesy of Cece Lannister. You run that CT scan for her yesterday?”
“You mean after the ruckus you caused?” Jace asks, leaning against the nurses' station, “No, Baratheon put me in the pit. Which is probably where I will stay for the rest of my life.”
“Did anyone get a CT?” you ask, frowning at his theatrics. 
“Um after you left Cory was supposed to cover her labs and stuff,” Jace tells you, “I’d ask her she’ll know-”
“Know what,” Sara says, placing a handful of clipboards between you, “I’ve been on scut duty all morning. Does anyone know why Baratheon is in such a foul mood?”
“Fouler than usual?” Nettles says, stepping up beside you. 
“I’m not sure if I’m able to determine that,” Sara says, groaning, “But she definitely seems angry.”
“Excuse me! Excuse me!” Cory says, weaving through residents, holding two coffee cups above her head, “Seven hells, doesn’t anyone know how to walk in this place?”
“Apparently not,” Nettles comments, as Cory holds a coffee out to you. 
“For you. Figured you’d need the extra caffeine,” she says as you take the cup. Her smile turns down into a frown, “What is on your head?”
You roll your eyes. This is clearly going to be a whole-day occurrence. 
“Interns!” Dr. Baratheon’s voice calls out, and you all turn, straightening yourselves. 
Dr. Baratheon looks down at her clipboard, before bringing her steely blue eyes to look at the five of you. She sighs, flipping through her pages. 
“Martell, now that Dr. Y/L/N is back I want you to assist me on Lyonel Beesbury’s Whipple this afternoon; You can write that on the board,” she says, nodding to herself. 
Cory lets out a soft ‘yes’ before quickly rushing across the hallway. Nettles’ jaw tightens and you can tell she’s disappointed to have not been asked. 
“Waters I want you shadowing Dr. Targaryen today in pediatrics, Dr. Y/L/N you may join her,” Baratheon continues.
Targaryen.
Your heart lurches.
“Dr. Baratheon, I’m supposed to get Cece Lannister that CT scan,” you tell her, as she raises a brow.
“That’s fine. After that bring it to Dr. Targaryen up on peds, she’ll be interested in seeing it,” Dr. Baratheon says, returning her gaze to her clipboard.
“She?” you ask the question leaving your mouth before you can stop it.
Dr. Baratheon sighs, placing her clipboard across her stomach. Her eyebrows lift toward her hairline, blue eyes fiery.
“Yes, she,” Dr. Baratheon quips, “Was there someone else you thought I was referring to?”
“No ma’am,” you say, shaking your head. 
“Good,” she says, eyes moving past you, “Snow, Velaryon, you’re in the pit.”
Sara and Jace audibly groan. Baratheon gives them a stern look which stops their complaining.
“No drama today,” she says sternly, “Understood?” 
You all murmur words of agreement, and Dr. Baratheon brings her eyes back to your face; they flicker up to your forehead. 
“Take that thing off,” she comments, shaking her head and walking down the hall.
“She’s right. You look silly,” Nettles tells you.
“I can’t take it off, it was a gift from a sick kid. You know how much bad luck that will bring me?” you tell her, walking down the hallway.
“Speaking of bad luck,” Nettles says, smiling, “When are you going to tell me about how you know Dr. Sexy?”
“Dr. Sexy?” you say through a laugh, “Not the greatest name.”
“Girl but he is sexy,” she says fanning herself, “Guy’s name should be McDreamy.”
“McDreamy, Dr. Sexy, it’s nothing,” you tell her, “We….we may have hooked up. Once! That’s it and it was before I knew he worked here.”
“You bad girl,” Nettles hisses, though she’s smiling; her eyes bright, “How was it? Does McDreamy live up to his name?”
“Literally the best sex of my life,” you tell her, “But we already decided it can’t happen again.”
“What?” she says, her smile dropping, “It’s not like he’s your boss, he’s a coworker! People fuck coworkers!”
“What happened to not shitting where you eat?” you tell her.
“Girl you already did, might as well see it through! Especially if he’s that good,” she says, leaning closer, “Just….how good, if I may be so bold.”
You wet your lips, trying to fight your smile.
“Five orgasms good,” you admit and Nettles squeals loudly, jaw dropping.
“That does it,” she says, “You’re getting Dr. Sexy back. Do it for me.”
“Don’t you need to get to peds?” you ask, “And see…Dr. Targaryen?”
“Yeah I noted your confusion around that,” she says with a sigh, “Dr. B was talking about Dr. Helaena Targaryen. You know, renowned pediatric surgeon? She does fabulous research on infectious diseases as well; she came and spoke once when I was in med school about…”
Your mind trails off as Nettles speaks, still focused on Aemond. You hadn’t seen him today and yet he was all you could think about. Since dropping you at home you hadn’t spoken, besides the text he sent you. The door couldn’t still be open. Could it?
“...especially in the southern climates like the Summer Isles, Sothoryos, and Naath..are you listening to me?” Nettles says, punching your shoulder slightly, “Right. Anyway, Sounds like you’re boning her brother.”
“Brother?” you ask, connecting the dots, “Shit. He did say he moved back here for family. But a family full of doctors?”
“You really don’t know anything, do you?” Nettles says, shaking her head, “Sorry. That sounded mean. But the Targaryens are like a huge deal in the medical world.”
“I mean, I’ve seen names on research,” you admit, “And maybe a Ted Talk or two but….I mean I didn’t even know his last name when we…I didn’t realize..”
“You’d come straight into the lion’s pit?” Nettles says with a chuckle, “It’s okay, girl. But I’m giving you some homework. Seriously, look them up. Learn a thing or two.”
“I can’t google Aemond,” you tell her, “It’s just…I don’t know that doesn’t feel right.”
“Understandable,” she says with a shrug, “I mean, Spark Notes version, they’re a huge name within the medical community. Big money, big name, big influence. So don’t go pissing any of them off.”
“Right,” you tell her, “Got it.”
“I’m heading to pediatrics,” Nettles says, pressing an elevator button, “See you soon?”
“Yeah,” you tell her, “Just have to get this CT and I’ll be there.”
“Cool. Later, klutz,” she teases as the doors open.

Cerelle Lannister’s CT scan takes much longer than anticipated. The wait is long and the small girl trembles when being taken into the machine, legs flailing each and every way. Only when they’re strapped down is she somewhat still enough to enter the machine. 
“I feel like a mummy,” she says when the straps are secured, “Being put in a sarcophagus.” 
“That’s pretty spooky,” you tell her with a grin.
“I like to pretend when I’m scared,” she says softly.
You reach out and take her hand.
“No need to be scared of this. The machine is just really loud, that’s all. I’ll be just outside,” you assure her.
“Okay,” she says softly, squeezing your hand. 
She does great, staying as still as she can the entire time. You praise her through the microphone and wave as the nurses escort her back to her room, wheeling her in a small wheelchair. Her stuffed lion was safely on her lap. You’ve noticed she rarely lets go of the toy. 
You sit in the room outside, watching as the scan produces results. Forehead creased, you click through the images as someone knocks on the door. You turn, smiling at Jace leaning in the doorway.
“Hey there,” you greet, “Shouldn’t you be in the pit?”
“Had to sneak away for a second,” he says, “Those Cece’s scans?”
“Yeah,” you tell him, beckoning him forward, “See that inflammation there?”
“Yeah,” he agrees, leaning forward, hands on the back of your chair, “So what’s your thinking?”
“Something bacterial,” you tell him, “I mean, there’s no sign of tissue or nerve damage, her labs are stable despite her on-and-off fevers. But it's progressing significantly. She’s having trouble sleeping due to the spasms.”
“Have you ever heard of something that causes this?” Jace asks.
“No, at least not off the top of my head,” you admit, “I’m heading to peds. Maybe Dr. Targaryen will have a better idea. Nettles says she specializes in infectious diseases.”
“Oh…..yeah,” Jace says, straightening up and rubbing the back of his neck. You frown as he tenses, his friendly disposition vanishing.
“Just an idea,” you tell him, gathering your things.
You follow him out of the room. Jace seems uneasy, he rubs at his face, and the collar of his scrubs. 
“No it’s a good one,” he agrees, “I should get back to the pit---”
“Strong,” a voice calls, sending your heart racing. 
Aemond takes several strides toward the two of you, a smug smile on his face. Something in your gut tightens, the memory of your night together burning in the back of your mind. He wore a similar expression then, one full of confidence. Goosebumps erupt on your skin. You can hear his voice from that night, as he whispered in your ear while sheathed to the hilt inside of you. 
“Who’s my good girl, hmm?”
You blink, shaking your head, trying to physically expel the memory from your mind. Your cheeks heat up and you notice Jace has turned several shades darker as well, fists clenched at his side. 
“I thought you were assigned to the pit, Strong,” Aemond asks, cocking his head to the side, “I would hate to have to tell Baratheon you’re disobeying orders.”
Aemond’s sentence hits you like a slap in the face. He’s not as cool, calm, and collected right now as he was the last time you’d seen him. He’s bordering on being cruel. You glance at Jace. 
“It’s Velaryon,” Jace says, through his teeth.
“Come again?” Aemond asks, “Don’t mumble, Jacaerys, it’s unseemly.” 
“My name,” Jace says sternly, “Velaryon.”
Aemond’s mouth quirks into an amused grin. 
“My apologies,” he says smoothly, “You’ll have to forgive me, it’s easy to forget.”
“Sure,” Jace says, nose wrinkling.
“Give my best to your dad,” Aemond says, “Whichever one, you’re choice.”
Aemond turns to you, something flickering across his eyes. 
“Dr. Y/L/N,” he says with a curt nod, before walking away, hands tucked behind his back.
Jace exhales, striding over to the elevator. You follow close behind as his pager beeps.
“What the hell was that about?” you ask, stepping inside with him.
“Nothing.”
“Jace, that wasn’t nothing.”
“He was just messing with me,” Jace insists, not meeting your eyes.
“Why was Dr. Targaryen messing with you?”
“Because he’s a narcissistic pig!”
Your eyes widen and Jace sighs, shaking his head. 
“He’s….he’s my uncle okay,” Jace admits. Your eyes widen.
“Your uncle?”
“Yes, and my side of the family doesn’t really get along with his side,” Jace says, as the doors open to your floor.
“But why-”
“Look, it doesn’t matter,” Jace says, shaking his head, “I have to go. Sara just paged, some drunk deadbeat riling everyone up downstairs.”
You step outside the elevator but turn back to him.
“I want the full story, Velaryon. Not the Cliff Notes, the whole story,” you tell him. 
“Okay!” he reluctantly agrees, “Later.”
“Tonight, Dragon’s Den, tell Sara!” you call as the doors begin to close.
“So I can air my dirty laundry to everyone?!” 
“Exactly!” you call as the doors shut. 
Turning on your heel, you head down the hall to pediatrics. You can’t wait to share the details with Nettles as you push through the double doors and head to the nurses' station. 
“Excuse me,” you ask a nurse, “Have you seen Dr. Targareyn?”
“Which one?”
“Dr. Helaena Targaryen,” you clarify.
“She was just here, she’ll roll around in a moment.”
“I’m sorry…..roll?”
Just as the question leaves your lips, the sound of wheels against linoleum is heard from down the hall. A woman in light green scrubs and a white lab coat rolls on her heels down the hallway. Nettles jogs behind her as she turns, coming to a stop in front of you. 
Her silver hair is shaggy, but the resemblance to Aemond is uncanny. A large butterfly pin holds some out of her face and she smiles brightly as you greet her. 
“Been waiting for you,” she says, holding a hand out for you to place your scans in, “Aemond told me all about you.”
You nearly choke on your saliva and Nettles’ eyes go round.
“He--he did?” you squeak.
“Mhmm,” Helaena says, flicking through the scans, “Quite the first day you had.”
“Oh right,” you say, relief washing through you.
“Glad you’re okay,” Helaena says, glancing up at you, “Nice bandaid.”
“Thanks,” you tell her.
“Cece Lannister,” she muses, “What is going on with you.”
“I was hoping you’d have thoughts,” you ask.
“Has she traveled anywhere recently?” Dr. Taragreyn asks, frowning at the scans, “You’re thinking it’s some sort of infection, correct?”
“Yes,” you tell her, “And I’m not sure about her travel history.”
“Find out,” she tells you, “If you’re going to find out what this is, you need to find out what caused it and where.”
She hands you the scans, smiling once more.
“Nice to meet you,” she says with a smile, “Officially this time.”
Your cheeks heat up. She knows. She remembers. You vaguely remember Aemond speaking with his sister before leaving; you’d barely caught a glimpse of her. 
“Yeah,” you agree, smiling weakly. 
You hurry off after that, eager to get back to Cece Lannister’s room to inquire about her recent travels. Walking down the hall you enter one of the many elevators, waiting patiently as it stops on nearly every floor, doctors coming in and out. 
Then it's just you and someone else, you look out of the corner of your eye and recognize him. 
Dr. Cole smiles at you.
“How’re you feeling?” he asks.
“Better, thanks to my cool bandaid, not the stitches and rest,” you tell him, cracking a smile.
“So cool,” he says with a laugh, “I had a kid give me a bandaid covered in oranges the other day.”
“Tropical,” you comment as the doors open.
“Good to see under better circumstances,” Dr. Cole says, beginning to exit, “Ah Dr. Targaryen.”
Your blood runs cold as Aemond enters the elevator.
“Will I be seeing you this afternoon?” Dr. Cole asks, “I’ve got an aneurysm clipping if you’re interested.”
“Always, if you’ll have me,” Aemond says, and Dr. Cole nods as the doors close. 
You’re alone. With him. Alone with him. Your heart pounds frantically in your chest, anxiety making your senses heighten. The elevator suddenly feels very small, and closed in; the air not being pushed through the vents quick enough. Aemond stares straight ahead, not looking at you and not attempting to engage in polite conversation. Your stomach sours and you swallow. 
“Hey,” you say tentatively. 
You glance at Aemond out of the corner of your eye and watch him look down at his feet. You scoff softly, annoyed by his ignoring of you. The elevator hums and your anger pools quickly in your belly; flames licking upwards to your face. 
“So you’re ignoring me now?” you ask, getting no reply, “Really mature.”
Aemond continues looking at his shoes, hands folded behind his back. 
“We’re colleagues, the least you could do is make polite conversation,” you huff, pressing the elevator button once more.
You know it won’t make it arrive quicker, but you need something to do with your hands. 
“And that whole thing with Jace?” you say, pressing the button again and again, “I don’t know what your problem is, but clearly that was an asshole move--”
Your hand is yanked away from the button, long fingers wrapping around your wrist and suddenly his lips are on yours. The hand around your wrist falls and both his arms wrap around your waist, pulling you flush against him. 
Your anger dissipates almost immediately, as you link your arms around his neck fisting the hair at the nape of his neck. The moan this causes him to release, sends your knees buckling, and he brings one hand to your ass, squeezing harshly. 
Spearmint and tea. He tastes so good, mouth so warm and soft moving against your own you can’t help but whimper as he cradles your jaw with his free hand. Desire pools in your belly, and a desperate gasp leaves your lips.
Aemond drags his lips to kiss your jaw, and your neck as his opposite hand cradles the side of your face, his thumb stroking your cheekbone. You’re so needy, so responsive to his touch, you want him so desperately, and then---
The elevator dings and you push away from each other, breathing heavily as the doors open and more residents and attendings enter. You quickly get your bearings springing out of the elevator and onto your floor. 
“Y/N!” Aemond calls, walking after you. 
Your pager goes off just as he reaches you, and you squint down at it. 
“Code White Cerelle Lannister,” you tell him, going numb with shock, “I just saw her-”
“Go,” Aemond says, before turning to a nurse, “That’s a medical emergency, page Dr. Helaena Targaryen!”
You hurry down the hallway, breaking out into a run as you enter Cerelle’s room. Dr. Baratheon is there already, Mrs. Lannister sobbing holding onto Cece’s stuffed lion. Cece’s sheets are soaked with sweat as she thrashes. 
Not sweat.
Blood.
It’s as if Cece is sweating blood. 
“Hematidrosis,” Dr. Baratheon says, readying a syringe, “Push one of epi.”
“Cece it’s gonna be okay,” you tell her, as Dr. Baratheon hands you the syringe. 
Cerelle’s eyes are wide, tears streaming down her face leaving clear rivers through his red-tinged cheeks. 
You give her the epinephrine. Slowly but surely her sweating ceases, and her forehead begins to dry. Her legs spasm, stronger than before. She’s getting worse. 
“Mrs. Lannister,” Dr. Baratheon says, trying to console the weeping woman, “Mrs. Lannister it’s alright. While Hematidrosis is quite disturbing, it’s not serious.”
“Not serious?!” Mrs. Lannister says in a shrill voice, eyes wide, “My daughter is sweating blood, and you’re telling me it’s not serious?”
“Paged,” Dr. Targareyn says entering the room, “Dr. Baratheon.”
“Mrs. Lannister, this is Dr. Helaena Targaryen, one of our pediatric surgeons and infectiology specialists.”
“Infecto..what?” Mrs. Lannister says as Helaena moves around Cece’s bed. 
Cece’s eyes are panicked and she holds onto your wrist with a vice-like grip.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” you tell her, “Dr. Targaryen is just checking on you.”
Helaena brings out a penlight, instructing Cece to follow it with her eyes.
“Mrs. Lannister, have you traveled anywhere recently?” she asks, continuing her assessment. 
“Um,” Mrs. Lannister struggles to find words, placing a hand on her forehead and closing her eyes, “Yes. We got back a couple of weeks ago.”
“Where?”
“Naath. It was Cece’s idea, she’d been reading about the flora and fauna, she’s such a bright kid she loves all that stuff,” Mrs. Lannister says through tears.
Helaena smiles at Cece.
“I like that stuff too,” she tells the young girl, “Cece, what did you see on your trip? Any cool plants, bugs, animals?”
“L-lots,” Cece answers shakily, still holding on to you tightly.
“Tell me about them.”
“Um well…they’re famous for their butterflies,” Cece tells her, “They’re huge.”
“They are,” Helaena confirms, “I’ve never seen them in person, but I’d like to. Did you touch any butterflies?”
“Yes, but I washed my hands! Right after!”
“What color was the butterfly you touched?”
“There were so many--”
“Try and remember, the ones you know you touched.”
“Blue…..green…..one that was black and white,” she says teary-eyed, “Did the butterfly hurt me?”
“It didn’t mean to,” Helaena says softly, “They don’t know any better.”

“Butterfly fever. It’s a bacterial infection spread in Naath,” Helaena says to you and Dr. Baratheon outside Cece’s room, “She’ll need a routine of antibiotics, I can consult with my team on a proper regime.”
She turns to you.
“Good work,” she praises, “Butterfly fever can get pretty nasty. Skin sloughing off, and so forth.”
“She’s right, Y/L/N,” Dr. Baratheon praises, “Good work.”
“Thanks,” you tell her. 
After establishing Cece’s antibiotic treatment and giving it to the nurses' station, you make your way to the intern locker room. You quickly change out of your scrubs, eager to be back in normal clothes. Closing your locker, you check your phone. Jace, Sara, Cory, and Nettles have texted saying they’re waiting down in the lobby.
You leave the locker room, putting your phone in your pocket when you see him. Leaning against the door Aemond’s head turns as you walk out.
“Hey,” he says, straightening up. He’s still in scrubs, clearly, his shift isn’t over.
“Hey.”
He’s quiet for a moment, wetting his lips as he tries to find the words he wants to say.
“Look about earlier--”
“Aemond,” you cut him off, “We can either do this or not. You’re either in or out, but you have to make a decision.”
Aemond is silent, blue and violet eyes watching you. 
“What do you want?” he asks quietly.
“I just want you,” you answer honestly, “What do you want?”
“I….” Aemond struggles to speak, biting the tip of his tongue.
It’s not an outright rejection, but it still hurts like one. You sigh, looking down at your shoes. 
“I can’t decide for you,” you tell him, beginning to walk by, “That’s up to you.”
He doesn’t stop you as you continue to walk by, doesn’t reach out and pull you toward him. He lets you go. You find your friends in the lobby, force a smile on your face as you travel to the Dragon’s Den, and eagerly accept the tequila shots Cory buys you. There’s no text this time. 
Perhaps he made his choice.

what do you think of the whole maya having «turned in to» riley thing?? do u think there is truth in that, or do you think she just changed on her own and people started implying that her growth was just the copycat effect of being around riley so much?? ive never really been sure what i think of that whole thing!?! i feel like it might be a mix of both, but that they were wayyyyy to dramamtic about her not being «herself» anymore, like people change, thats what we do, it doesn’t always mean we have «lost ourselves» like they told maya she had. what do you think? 💖💖💖💖💖
Hello! Thank you for sending this, because there’s a lot to be said, so let’s get into it! 
 
To answer your question, it’s a mixture of yes and no. The reason why I say yes is because, if you can, rewatch girl meets world of terror 2. The scene where riley and maya empty their brains (that whole animation scene), it really tells a lot without explicitly saying it. Maya’s head was full of rileys, “don’t do this” “be like me”, and whatever else she said (it’s been a while since I’ve seen it). But that is why I say yes. This triangle situation was really taking an emotional toll on Maya, and she needed someone to just give her a little nudge back to who she was after girl meets hurricane. She just needs someone to restore the hope in her, and the hope that everything would turn out how it was supposed to. However, the only person who could do that (*cough* Lucas *cough*) was off figuring out his own feelings and he wasn’t able to see Maya’s crisis in time. By the time he realized what was happening, Maya was back in Mayaville and she wouldn’t listen to him, hence why she stepped back from him in girl meets true maya. The only person who was around was Riley and even though it was unintentional on her part, she pushed Maya back into who she’s always seen, which is a Maya who is upset with herself because she thinks she’s the reason why her father left, someone who didn’t have hope, and that’s not who Maya was anymore. Riley couldn’t see that because she wasn’t in a place where she could actually see that she and Lucas weren’t the end all, be all. That there was a chance that Lucas and Maya had something real, and that the feelings she thought she had for Lucas were actually for someone else (can you guess who? Lol).
The reason why I say no is because in girl meets triangle, when maya’s crisis is in full effect, she’s still thinking about the decision that has to be made and that they need to include Lucas because he’s a part of it. However, Riley doesn’t want to hear it because she’s not ready. I fully believe that the triangle dragged as long as it did because Riley wasn’t ready, Maya wanted to make sure Riley was happy, and Lucas didn’t want to hurt either of the girls, plus he was still figuring out his feelings for each of them. Like I said before, Maya was emotionally stuck, because she was worried about Riley, while also trying to deal with her deep feelings for Lucas. I don’t know if she realized how deep her feelings actually were, but we all could see that her feelings were very different from Riley’s. So, she was going through all of that, and trying to hang on to the hope she got since the middle-to end of season 2. That’s a lot to go through emotionally, so she did go a bit into rileytown, her hair and outfits say so. But she wasn’t as far in as Riley thinks she was. She never “became riley”, she was still very herself, just with hope and confidence (plus a new wardrobe, curtesy of Shawn). 
Michael Jacobs called season 3 the “season of feelings”. Seasons 1 and 2 were friendship and growth. Riley and Maya’s friendship wouldn’t have survived if Lucas and Maya got together before Riley was ready. Like Cory said, “feelings can tear apart friendship and growth”. At the end of the day, girl meets world was about Riley, Maya, and their friendship. Since Riley wasn’t near the level of growth Maya was at, it was unfortunately Maya’s growth that had to be diminished to save the friendship. But the best part about growth is that it can be restored, which we started to see in girl meets IDo. And who helped lead Maya down that path again? The same person who helped her gain hope, and if we would’ve gotten our season 4, we would’ve continued to see that growth. 
Also, if you realized it, Riley did start to grow during the back half of season 3. Because after ski lodge, what happened with Riley and Lucas’ relationship? Barely anything right? That’s because as Michael Jacobs said, in ski lodge part 2, the characters made the “wrong decisions”. That means that by Lucas choosing Riley, he made the wrong decision. Now how would we know how a character makes the right decision, look at girl meets goodbye. When Topanga was trying to figure out what to do about London, Eric told her to find her quiet place, which turned out to be Topanga’s. She sat there and made the right decision, which was to stay. Now, another character also sat in a quiet place to think about a decision. Can you guess who it was? 
Lucas! 
In girl meets upstate, he went to the bay window to wait for the girls to tell them his decision, and he sat there for quote “5 hours”. Who did he decide on? We never got to find out because maya didn’t give him the chance to, but given the context, the answer was Maya. Topanga was able to say what her decision was, Lucas didn’t, and in turn he wasn’t given the chance to say the right decision (Maya) and therefore made the wrong decision (Riley). 
Now getting back to what I had said earlier, in the back half of season 3, Riley and Lucas barely interacted. That was because (and remember, this is just based on my observation), since Lucas and Riley had pushed one another to the level of growth that they could, they couldn’t help each other anymore. They needed other people (Maya and Farkle respectively), to push them further. Riley didn’t realize it yet, but she was starting to outgrow Lucas and if we got our fourth season, we would’ve seen Riley realize that Lucas wasn’t who she made him to be, and she then would’ve looked back at everything and seen that while her intentions were good, she was wrong about a lot, and from there, would’ve been on her own journey of growth. 
I know this post got out of hand, but there is a lot of complexity to these characters. But I hope this helped answer your question, and please feel free to ask me again, if you need clarification on anything I’ve said!

palisade 37 !!!!!!!!!!!!
THEY WEREN’T LYING THAT DIVINE CAN CYCLE
perennial is the time loop and she is in the time loop!!!!! the wheel turns!!!!!!!!! incredible. i love this. 
no wonder perennial was moved by figure begging for another chance.
from a structural pov i appreciate that this is explicitly the last chance bc it keeps pressure on the players without having to resort to multiverse stuff. also a well-timed reveal for the tension in the back half of the season.
it frankly explains a lot that picking clem was a three-millionth-year-in-the-time-loop decision
also this only raises MORE questions about what’s going on off in that arm of the galaxy. they’ve worked out time travel????
oh re the intro, “according to the world i’m a hypocrite or drowned” BANGER LINE. also “the truth”/“the worst”… poor gur
other things did happen in this episode that i am also excited about. what were they again. oh right
thisbe the new bearer of integrity!! golden horns!! really racking up crew entanglements with divinity. extremely exciting. 
(i do think we are gonna need some new words by the end of the season, or a clear decision against.)
that whole sequence was so compelling—i feel like we rarely see thisbe pursue her desires so directly. her determination to reach out and understand is fascinating. and that integrity chooses people who want to change the world—wondering if this could be a direction for thisbe’s new illusion strats. 
and “my head is somewhat heavier but it doesn’t bother me” heavy is the head that wears the crown huh thisbe. excited to see where this goes !
also on engagements with divines, asepsis’s view of its role changing because brnine saw it as “a divine without a community”—sets this down next to palisade discussing his different relationships with different excerpts, “the etiquette you make with one another” (which is a very loving way of looking at it, i think). divines are socially constructed; divinity is contextual. u know.
dre has been fucking killing it as figure this season. that scene with palisade was really good. saying “this feels like a metaphor” about playing duck (lmao) was exceptionally funny because that is always true about figure all of the time
coriiiii…. i am so glad cori is able to trust her crew and find safety questioning her religious upbringing with them.
i do feel like i understand eclectic better now. we’ve gotten a few more flags: he believes in welcoming people who help him; he feels that divines are too much of a risk; he sees the cause as taking over palisade. (it is also kind of touching that he’s so insistent that they adopt a random lock & cross cop, specifically—i found that scene kind of frustrating, but it’s solid character work.)
we also learned this ep that brnine thinks they are the sexiest crew member (they’re right). however this leaves the question of who thisbe thinks is sexiest. assuming it was someone not already present in the scene but aboard the blue channel, that leaves hunting, midnite, or saffron. does thisbe think saffron is sexy?? i would believe that. she has the most physical forms, leaving aside phrygian (who i think murch said she thought was hottest?? wires??), so logically saffron could be attractive to the widest range of people. or thisbe just thinks she’s hot. i’d ship it.

thinking about some thisbe (and to a lesser extent figure) stuff....
i was thinking recently about how janine has discussed that thisbe isn't really a character who's meant to have an arc about "becoming more human", but an arc for her might involve her realizing she's actively making decisions and that there are reasons she's making them. i was particularly rotating it in relation to thisbe deciding to take the figure's situation into her own hands as a priority and making a clock for it- she is pretty firm about it immediately but why she would be so interested isn't too explicit.
but this train of thought made me remember something janine said in partizan 30 about why thisbe stayed with fort icebreaker and MB:
Janine: Also, it’s you know, I don't remember. I don't remember if we said this on mic or on camera, but like a big thing for me, determining why Thisbe is still here at all and is still engaged with this stuff at all? Is that she is deeply against the systems that created her, or this, the kinds of systems that could create things like her.
and this is before it becomes clear thisbe was originally part of the divine space's colonization effort- this is just thisbe thinking of herself as a farming tool. there are some pretty obvious parallels with the figure here and his anger at being someone who was brought back to life as "a creation of [the witch's] magic."
the figure in general has a pretty big thing about looking for someone to relate to everywhere they go and basing a lot of their close relationships on that- it's the entire basis of their clocks with partial palisade and cori- but one thing i think is interesting about this is that i think thisbe connects to this situation but she's not someone who relates to people in that way, as she sees herself as fundamentally different than a person. when the figure is explaining why he has to bring the usher of truth to clem he uses a lot of wording about utility that can be pretty easily paralleled to thisbe's hook of "i must strive at all times to demonstrate my utility":
Hunting: Not fixing you? That sounds... you're a tool. I don't mean that, I don't, you're not — I don't mean that you're — You mean she, I mean she sees you like one, instead of like a person. Figure: That's what I am. ... Figure: If I can't take this creature... I am... I will be useless to her, and eventually I will be useless to you, because I will be nothing. I might make a nice sundial.
but thisbe's pretty uncomfortable with this, noticeably!
Thisbe: Operant Bismuth is a person. The Witch in Glass is not worthy of you. Janine: But it is with like a tone of like, this isn't saying, like, “Nah, fuck her.” This is, this is like a... uh, Thisbe is sort of like relenting.
earlier in that same scene the figure tries to ask thisbe what the most inconsequential tool she uses is, and thisbe can't respond because her tools are what she relates to, not other people. this is the sort of thought process she uses for herself but she knows it's wrong for one of her operants to feel that way- because she believes it's wrong for beings like her to be created by the systems millennium break is fighting.
i'm not exactly sure if thisbe is someone who would have processed that that's part of why she's interested in the figure's situation (she seems to think of it like "it's like how a plant needs resources and i know plants"), but it seems pretty fundamental to her interest. i want someone to ask her why she cares about millennium break and get some of this answer out of her...

2... Who is your best friend?  Tell us about them!
I think both of them would absolutely say that they are each other's best friends because they are. I don't think all couples are best friends, no matter how much they claim to be. Being a best friend is a special level - you have to be able to tell each other anything without fear of being judged, but you know that they will also be willing to tell you the truth - even if you don't want to hear it. They should be the first person they want to call when something good or terrible happens. They have to enjoy each other's company and laugh together. This is NOT every couple, but it is Tobias and Casey.
But it's important to have other friends, too, and they both know that. For Tobias, his other best friends would be Kerry and Sasha (OCs - more about them here) and Ethan.
For Casey, it would be Sienna and Bryce. She becomes very close with Kerry, too, but always respects the boundary that she is Tobias's best friend. She'd never want to put her in a position to feel she has to choose between them.
9... Are you a spiritual person?  If yes, what do you practice?
The answer here may shock - Casey was not - at all, but Tobias was. He is the perfect way of showing we don't know who people are at their core by what you see on the outside. He wasn't a holy roller, by any means, but he absolutely had strong faith. He grew up attending the church where his paternal great-grandfather was a pastor and a civil rights leader. Church on Sunday was part of his life as a child, he even served on the children's choir (which is where we learned he had a great voice.) Did he live a pious life? Hell no. But did his faith steer him throughout his life? Yes. It did. I wrote a fic about this, Just a Little Faith. Casey was agnostic, leaning toward athiest, and didn't believe in much. But after her near death experience, falling in love with Tobias, and becoming pregnant with their child, she started to have a shift in her point of view. This is one of my favorite fics :)
11... What is your favorite type of media (TV, movie, books, etc)?  Name some specific favorites (which shows, movies, books, etc do you like)!
They kind of like all of them. LOL But they're both avid book readers. I would say that's where they find sustenance, followed by movies. TV is something they enjoy, but it's more for relaxation.
Books: They both love non-fiction most of all, and there are many James Baldwin and Bell Hooks titles amongst their favorites.
Some of Tobias's specific favorites (I'll stick to books since they played a big part in how they fell in love) : The Covenant of Water (Abraham Verghese), Dying: A Memoir (Cory Taylor), Lies My Teachers Told Me (James Loewen), The Return (Hisham Matar), and The Alchemist (Paolo Coelho)
And Casey's: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Maya Angelou), All About Love (Bell Hooks), Beloved (Toni Morrison), Atonement (Ian McEwan), and The Invisible Thread (Schroff/Tresniowski).

13... You’re given an unlimited budget to build anything you want!  What do you build and where do you build it?
Ethan would build a modest but lovely home on a secluded private beach somewhere in New England. Very traditional, think shingle style, surrounded by beautiful landscaping and pure serenity.
Eva would love to have two small homes in her genealogical homelands of Greece and Cuba. Since Cuba is not a possibility at this time, she'd probably build in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic. In Greece, it would be on an island, but NOT Mykonos or Santorini! They'd be small, but comfortable, homey places.
20. Describe your biggest pet peeve.
Ethan - Pointless meetings - especially when he has to put up with board members and such.
Eva - Rude people.
24. What would you consider your main love language?
I would say it's quality time for both (however, I have not done the test for them, I have for E/K and T/C lol)

So you made your way down the halls and onto the third floor. As you enters the room, opened Mr.Wilson’s laptop, and typed “Barbara Gordon” into the machine. It began to load. 1-5-10-15-20-25-30-35-40-45-50-55-60-65-70-75-80-85-90-95-100%! Loading….. ………………………………………………………………………. NO FILES FOUND ON “GORDON, BARBARA

No files found? This-this wasn’t possible! Damian wouldn’t! Could he? Was Barbara Gordon really kidnapped! Why would Damian lie about something like that? The betrayal seemed to grow inside of you. It filled you with rage and the feeling of being stupidly naive. You believed him after everything he did to you. Damian was going onto your list next. But what you didn’t expect next was the loud “boom” of the office doors to open! There, they stood. Damian, Mr.Wilson, Cory, and Mr.William’s.
“Y/n”! Damian roared like a lion. “What are you doing in here?! I told you to stay put”! He said before walking quickly over to you and going to grasp your left arm.
“Y/n! What on earth are you doing in my office. You are not aloud in here”!, Mr.Wilson’s voice boomed out loud.
“You’re a liar! All of you! You-you manipulated me! You-you-you wanna kill me”! You screeched out loud!
“You’re right”, Damian said as he pulled a sharp blade out of his pocket. Professionally quick he lifted the blade up and over your head and then pushed it down and your blood wen-!
You gasped! A dream! It was all a dream. Well, not all of it. Barbara Gordon not being found was not a dream. But no one found out you had looked for her, expect for Cory you guessed. You hadn’t told anyone about it and instead went back to the dorm and fell asleep in Damian’s bed. You wanted to tell him, but how were you suppose to tell your kind of boyfriend that you didn’t listen to him and that you found out he lied?! So instead, you opted to keep your mouth close instead. At least until you were readier to find out the truth about Barbara Gordon. If she even was real. Though, last night, you still choose to but Cory’s name in your locker note. Hector, Josiah, or Damian? You were still partially deciding.
You were more leaning more towards Damian though. You knew he meant well or at least he thought so, but everything wasn’t adding up! It was confusing and quite frankly, unnecessary. You were just going to put Damian on the list tonight, and then tomorrow you were going to put Hector than Josiah. Easy peezy lemon squeezey.
As you walked down stairs and got some breakfast you went over to sit with Cory instead of with Damian, Steph, Jason, Cass, and Tim. You didn’t need them annoying you anymore than they already were. And beside, you found out you Cory had a lot more in common than you thought. For the rest of your stay here, you were going to sit with Cory and his friends during meal breaks!
Though, of course there were a few glares here and there. Especially because Cory was touching your thigh and was going to a little too high for comfort. His friends were also giving you googly eyes. The thing that really seemed to push Damian over the edge was when Cory bent over and tried to kiss you! He instantly stood up and marched over to you saying he needed you. You were thankful, but Cory seemed to be glaring in the back of your head.
“That was unnecessary”, Damian said sarcastically with a straight face.
“He was just being friendly, Damian. He’s actually really sweet if you get to know him”, you said with a small smile slowly creeping up your face.
Damian scoffed. “There’s nothing sweet about him! He’s an asshole who clearly has you fooled. You can’t trust anyone, Y/n. What would happen if Cory really does know who’s threatening you? It’s the perfect cover up for him,” Damian said with a serious tone.
“Damian…… did you lie about Barbara being real? Listen, I know! I know you told me not to worry about it, but I searched up her files! She’s-she’s not real! Is she, Damian”, you said with a hint of desperation in your voice.
“You disobeyed me. Y/n! I told you not worry about it! Barbara’s files were deleted after she went missing! That’s what happens! The police take it so they can investigate! Did you seriously think I would make something like that up”?
“But Cory said he knew everyone in the school! He-he said he didn’t know Barbara! So that’s why I checked. I had to make sure you weren’t my stalker”, you said hoping he wouldn’t be angrier than he already was at you.
“Why the hell would I be your stalker?! And the fact that you believed Cory over me, makes things ten times worse! I stayed with you through everything, Y/n”, he shouted drawing attention to the both of you.
“I know- I know. I’m sorry okay! It was a bad idea! Please Damian”, you said desperately reaching for his hand. You expected him to move away but instead, he let it rest next to his left side. He let the warmth of your hand sink itself into his ice cold hands.
“I’ll only forgive you because I owe it to you after going along with everyone thinking you were crazy. But you owe me. You have to sleep in my dorm for the rest of the week”, he said with sly grin plastered onto his face.
“Deal”, you sighed out and then hooking your pinky’s together.
“Why don’t we head over to L/c? I already finished our project, so we can have a relaxing period”, Damian said as he wrapped his arm around your waist and kissed your cheek.
“Whatever makes you happy”, you said before resting your head on his shoulder.
As you both neared your L/c you saw a familiar shadow. Cory. You just prayed that when Damian saw him, he wouldn’t make a big deal out of it. You thanked whatever god was up there that Cory didn’t have that language class with you.
“Hey Y/n. Damian”, Cody said sourly. Though, he did stick his hand out for Damian to shake, which was pretty nice. But, Damian didn’t return the favor so he, instead, crossed his arms clearly refusing to shake Cory’s hand.
Don’t you have Geography, Cody”, Damian said sarcastically.
“It’s Cory. And a matter affect I do! I just thought I’d stop by and say “hey”, Cory said with a grin and crossing his arms. Almost like he was mocking Damian.
“We’ll you might want to get along to that”, Damian said rolling his eyes and gripping your arm, pulling you inside of the classroom.
“Damian, you didn’t have to do that”, you said as you took his hand and pulled him towards the front. Though, he directed you towards the back of the room and pulled you down so you sat directly next to him.
“Well, what can I say, I don’t like someone who currently has been suspended more than his record can hold, talking to you”, Damian said reaching down to hold your hand.
“Well I’ve got the whole class period, so what can I do to make it up to you”, you questioned him while you gently began to raise your hand higher to his upper arm.
“We could ditch and go make out in the bathroom”, he suggested
“Sure”, you said seducingly. As you made your way out of the classroom with Damian quickly following behind you, you both told the teacher you were heading to the nurse. Damian ‘insisted’ on coming with because your ‘severe headache’ could have you fainting any second. Since he was the top of all of his classes, the teachers would believe he knew about health more than they even would.
You both began to run down the hallway giggling like fools. You really couldn’t remember the last time you felt like this. I mean sure, you had an ex-boyfriend and all, but he never made you feel like this. But then again, it wasn’t like you both faced life or death. Mason Gray was his name. You both loved each other very much, but when he moved away to be closer to Harvord, his dream school, you knew he would fall in love with someone else, so you decided to break up with him. You’d never heard if he really did find another girl. You just assumed. He was a hot 5’5, blond hair, blues eyes, and skinny but strong kid. He’d be what? 16, no 17! He’s turned 17 in May. You both met each other during your first day of middle school when he had a locker right next to yours. It was fate, at least for a while. But now you had Damian! You felt as though he was the only one you truly needed in your life right now.
Soon after you had finished your make out session, you both headed up towards Damian’s dorm. Luckily, he stopped at your locker making sure you put the note with ‘ Hector’ on it and into your locker. Tomorrow would be day 6. If you were wrong today, you’d have only two guesses left. Two days, you might be dead. But as long as Damian was here, you knew everything would be okay.

Boy Meets World Shawn/Cory/Topanga fic summary of an idea I have no energy to try writing.
From a young age Cory was always willing to tell everyone that the two most important people in his world were Shawn Hunter and Topanga Lawrence. When he was little he learned to say Shawn's name first, it made the adults and other kids happy that his best buddy was more important than a girl and as he got older he learned to say Topanga's name first as it made everyone more happy that his girlfriend was more important than his best buddy. The truth that neither of them were more or less important to Cory.
Years of being asked who your BEST friend was or your FAVORITE whatever and not being allowed to have multiples had the trio agreeing early on on how they would navigate dating. Cory and Topanga agreed that neither of them were that comfortable accepting or going on dates with other people, it would feel bad to them. Shawn thought it was fine, as long as he wasn't actually leading people on.
They played very well into their Topanga and Cory and Shawn and anything that moved dating personas. The three of them became very good at spotting girls that needed help in the dating department, whether it was because they were not interested in men at all but weren't ready to tell anyone or just someone who was shy or perhaps not as desired as many of the other girls and just needed a dating boost. Shawn would approach them, tell them he isn't interested in anything more than casual fun and hand holding and ask if they'd want to go on a few dates. They all said yes. Throughout middle and high school Shawn vastly improved the social lives of probably a third of the female population of the school.
When college started to be something they were seriously considering the three thought about how great it would be to all live together, and maybe not hide their affection for each other.
The weekend before hs graduation when everyone was teasing Cory about proposing to Topanga the teasing and ignoring of Shawn's place in their relationship became too much. They decide to tell the Matthews, Jack, Mr. Feeny, and Mr Turner about their actual relationship. The three hold hands in the Matthews living room as they tell everyone. It's kinda silent before Eric cheers and announces that it's a big relief they all feel the same. That he'd been dreading how upset one of them would be if they couldn't all stay together.
Cory bemoans not being able to wed them both and that, based on what fields they want to work in it will probably be Topanga and Shawn having the wedding without him. His family decide to help him and convince him to propose to both of them at the joint graduation party they were planning to throw. Even if Shawn and Topanga are the only two who can legally sign the marriage paperwork there is no reason they can't have a beautiful wedding with all three of them.
Cory proposes, they say yes and hug each other. Basically everyone they know is happy for them. It turns out people have been worried about them having to go separate ways for a long time.
Lovely wedding with all three holding hands, all three change their last name to LawrenceHunterMatthews yup no spaces or anything. They get a tiny apartment and build a bed out of twin mattresses they found for cheap. This time instead of in the show Topanga is actually pregnant, she just hadn't realized or tested for it until after the baby shower that the boys organize for her. Turns out to be triplets, one girl who looks like Cory's clone, one girl who looks like Shawn's clone, and one boy who looks like Topanga's clone.
After the babies are born Jack and Eric come out as a couple too.
Happy happy nice queer ending.

Winter’s Top Five Season One BMW Episodes
For no other reason other than I’ve been listening to the amazing podcast Pod Meets World, and now feel obligated to provide my top five episodes from season one now that they are nearing the end of recapping season one in the podcast...

Now before I go into the listing, I must admit, season one is probably my least favorite season overall. And I don’t mean that as a comment to lessen the work and efforts of all that made such a monumental show from my childhood - I just mean that in the scope of the show as a whole, there are less sentimental moments that sit with me now as an adult, moments that have stayed with me throughout the years that are tied to youthful recollection contained in this season. And I think it will probably be obvious from the listing below, that the episodes I enjoyed the most on the rewatch were ones that were specifically called back to in later seasons - those episodes referenced because they were so important - because they did contain a spark within that specific episode that needed to be carried over into future episodes, storylines, and seasons.
There are also some surprises, but that, I can rightfully conclude, came with age.
 Another note to mention is as an overall tone, this season felt...light. Which yes, I know it’s a sitcom, and lightness and funny and humor come with the territory, but I guess, I see this show as so much more than that – as sort of a blending of all sorts of genres, a show that can’t be defined by one singular television category or division, but simple exists as it’s own unique entity.
But, then again, I suppose, the word light is appropriate for the start for this show at least, for it trying to position itself within the television landscape in its premiere – because starting something meant having to choose a definition – to choose a path to follow, to click along a preset, designated track – that is - until a detour presented itself later on. It couldn't travel down the unknown gravel road in the beginning – it had to stick to the highway so to speak. 
But that unpaved road would be there waiting, ready, to meander down for the next six seasons...
Cory’s Alternative Friends
The magic of Topanga is introduced.
I could stop there. I could stop and say “In closing, Topanga was introduced. The End....”
Or I could add a bit more and say how this character spoke to me so innately, down to my core, as a young girl, a girl with quirks and oddities that soon I would know to call personality traits similar to my own. I could even continue a little bit more and say the reason why this episode sparks, why it gleams so brightly now and within my memory, is because this one character, amongst the ensemble, elevated the scenes, the show, in a way that adolescent me didn’t understand, but now I see so clearly with the passing years.
But there really is a little more to the reasoning.
(as there is with most other stories)
This episode is the introduction of a girl – a girl in a television show (and landscape at large) that is heavy with boy – it’s the introduction of her “weirdness,” or, in truth, her pure unabashedly her-self that serves as a counterpoint to the rest of the characters. It’s the introduction of how that girl interacts with those people and places surrounding her – how she interacts in her world. Specifically, when it comes to the two boys she shall surround herself with (unbeknownst to her at this time) for the rest of her life, it’s the spark of that magic - that chemistry - of the three of them together- and looking back with adult eyes, it reminds me of those people in my life that I met when I was young that I still surround myself with - that I didn’t know at that time would be lifelong friends on this journey through life, that I didn’t know in the moment I would keep close throughout the years, but felt some sort of connection to in the moment, and thought, “I like this person…”
 The Fugitive
My crush is going to show, but I’ll try not to seep it too much into this description as to why this is one of the stand outs of the season.
There was an episode prior to this (who knew? It’s been a couple of decades since I watched this show…) that alluded to Shawn’s home life, but this episode really took it to another level. It’s not only insinuating a very serious situation about his home life, the possible reasoning behind how badly he doesn’t want to return home, but it’s venturing into the territory that as a previous audience member of the show, I remember so fondly about the character: the push and pull over “the line” - over what divides the “little bad from the big bad” – how this character meandered onto both sides of that line. It was that dance over this at times questionably invisible line that carried him into the next six seasons of the show - it’s what propelled his character forward showcasing some of the most poignant moments within the show (and on television overall if I might be so bold so say) - it’s those moments that still stick with me years (decades) later. It’s episodes like these that I will never forget.
It’s also the first episode that includes one of so many scenes that would follow between Cory and Shawn that show not just what “good friendship” looks like (or how that’s even defined - at least for my generation) but how the friends that are there for you in those pivotal moments in your life, tend to stay with you for the long run. Because you remember how much they cared for you in that critical scene of your life. Because you remember how they made you feel. They made you feel seen -heard - loved.
 Boy Meets Girl
Rewatching this episode just drew me right back into adolescence. All the moments shown aren’t perfect (that was discussed in depth in the pod and I have to admit, as an adult watcher, I agree) but the tone – the balance between strange and curious, weird and exciting, awkward and happy, foolish and blissful – that was what made this episode so memorable. It’s trying to depict that precipice in life when one day you’re giggling with your best friend, creating inside jokes, your reality revolving around the nonsensical – to realizing you’re peeking over a ledge you didn’t know was there.
There’s something over there you sense – and its name is growing up.
Learning is set to be done outside your make-believe world, the games you play, and the pictures you draw in your notebook. And that doesn’t mean you can’t visit this past - this childhood - because being playful is something that should hopefully never age, but it does mean life gets more complicated. It’s unfortunately what comes with growing up. But don’t worry – you won’t lose your best friend – or at least those friends that care to stick around through the ups and downs of life – that played those games with you and now you all can laugh about the innocence of it all while dealing with more serious matters.
To highlight a key aspect within the episode (I’ll try not to get too pro this ship or that ship) is the young beginnings of Cory and Topanga. Showing them before they became an inseparable entity that couldn’t be called upon without the other’s namesake trailing close behind, this beginning, this start, IS SO CUTE. It’s pure magic. And again – they nail that blend of “this is weird, this is cool, this is fun, this is odd, wait what is going on?” It's what this show ended up doing so well for six more seasons. It’s showing the absurdness of life and making it assessable to their audience to understand.
 On the Fence
Rewatching this episode as an adult, I felt the weight of its importance in a different way. And I realize a lot of episodes will have that effect going forward in this rewatch, but this seemingly under the radar episode, that I really didn’t remember, shown so early into the season, carried with it that weight that comes with those stacked years, the ones that gather in between eleven and thirty something. Having lived through experiences within adolescence, teenagehood, and young adulthood, one realizes (at least I do) that there is pure untarnished joy in being a kid and that joy should be protected - that that joy is something that should be cherished and prolonged for as long as possible - even if that means repainting a fence on behalf of your kid. Even if that means taking on more work to maintain the treasure of being a kid for your child. What a gift.
Grandma was a Rolling Stone
Another episode whose message is so profound, that as a kid, I barely, if at all, understood. All I saw in this episode as a kid was a fun grandma who left for half of the episode and then something, something with a girl and Eric in the yard and oh yeah back to the fun grandma. But again, the gathered years between childhood and now make me see the subtleties that were in this episode’s message - and as they stated so much more eloquently in the pod it’s that some people show their love differently- and that’s ok.
And I know this is a last minute add and doesn’t do the comment justice, but shout out to the incredible guest stars this episode. WOW.
BONUS!
I Dream of Feeny
 I know I said I’d only give a top five - but I feel like there should be a discussion point made about the season one finale - the finale that no one knew would only be the first - the one that at the time, could actually be THE ending. And so I rewatched this episode (one I DID NOT remember) from two perspectives -  One being, this was the start, and in that start, the show had to choose a path, had to go on the interstate, that nicely paved highway in the television landscape and follow a formula of sorts. And so, THE ending, feels like it follows that formula in a sense - it’s tying up Cory’s idea of having dismissed his teacher in the beginning, disregarding him as a figure he should heed any advice from, let alone learn anything from, to realizing he’s actually a very important figure - and he actually cares about him - cares about him as a mentor, as a friend, as a neighbor, as a human being. And I’m not going to lie, I teared up in two specific scenes between the pair – two scenes showcasing the relationship between a student and a teacher gradually graduating into someone who was gaining an admiration for someone he once didn’t. And I think it was twofold. It wasn’t just for Cory. Not that Mr. Feeny didn’t always respect Cory. I think he has respect for all his students, but I think Cory surprised him this episode. And I loved watching that.
 This episode also uses its ending power if you will to tie up Cory’s relationships with his now established core group of friends at school – the ones the show stumbled in trying to form at the start, but now, the story and audience undoubtable know who they are. And it’s literally the last scene in this ending where it all really shines – because it’s just the four of them in the classroom, showcasing how Cory wasn’t alone anymore - he was surrounded by his friends – only his friends - his world.
 Side Note: I found it a little eerie that the scene plays with that other worldly dimension BWM often entered into, an aspect of the show I enjoy, but it did so in this instance so it could disappear the character who literally would not return for future seasons...
 Regardless of the eerie prediction, what a lovely ending - if that was to really be the ending.
 But I did say I was coming at this from two perspectives.
 The other vantage point comes from age (a theme of this rewatch). And it comes from the future if you will. It’s having the knowledge that this was not THE ending, but, actually, the FIRST ending, the first of seven endings, seven finales, and this is just the opening ending, the ending they started with. And I might not remember all the endings throughout the seasons, but I most certainly, without question, out of probably all the media I’ve watched over my lifetime, remember the finale ending, the last ending they chose. And so, to juxtapose that last one with this first one, the ending they started with – wow -what a beautiful trajectory. What a beautiful story that is about to be told…

I just listened to the latest episode of and that's what you really missed on Glee.
The Golden Globes were around the time this episode aired. Jenna wasn't invited, because she was acting out behind the scenes on Glee and got punished.
Chris, Naya, Darren and Lea were on the cover of TV Guide as promo for the Michael episode.
They didn't mention that Darren was on Broadway at this time. Maybe they do it next week. It was the reason why Blaine got hurt by the slushie. They had to write him out.
We got an explanation how they got Helen Mirren as the inner voice of Becky. Eric Stoltz did a movie with Helen Mirren and he called her and asked her if she would do it.
Kevin said that Lauren was great in this episode, it was nice she had more to do and that Lauren is so nice. (I wished they talked a little more about her.)
They both say Moves Like Jagger was a weird number. Jenna didn't know this was a suggestion for a proposal number, because she skipped around. (I try to be nice about the podcast, but Jenna makes it impossible. It's part of her work to sit down and watch the whole episode to be prepared for the podcast. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes on Glee, but if this was always her attitude towards work, it's no surprise they didn't give her more to do.)
I'm with Jenna and Kevin that it is weird for Mr. Shue to ask the Glee club to come up with his proposal number. Shouldn't that be personal? And it is even weirder that Mr. Shue asks Finn to be his best man.
I'm with them that it was weird that Rachel started singing at Breadsticks when Finn talked about his future. (and where was Blaine?)
They thought the insults of coach Roz towards Sam were funny. (They are, but they are also offensive.)
Kevin and Jenna had a hard time to watch the scene with Finn and Carol about the truth of his father's death. Finn's father died of an overdose and it felt to close to home.
Shooting We Found Love was a fun day, but the water and the air was cold. No word on the synchronized swimmers.

it honestly depends! if it's just misbehavior, then Tugger and Misto switch off on who goes to get the kids. I do think that at least one of the older kids gets into some kind of actual fight with a classmate who makes a comment about the Deuteronomy-Jones kids not looking alike, usually directed at Fabre, Hestia, and Jubilee, and one of the older kids goes absolutely FERAL
like Sek and Hades just say the truth, that their dad slept around, Calliope, Ares, Apollo, Iris, and Thetis become dramatic and start pointing fingers like "WHICH ONE OF YOU IS ADOPTED" (Calliope always dramatically announces that it's her, which... makes Tugger CACKLE when he finds out), but if someone makes a comment like that to the Littles? to the triplets??? oh they'd better fear for their life
if that does happen, then both Tugger and Misto go in, but they ask for the full story from their kids and their friends (like Cori and Tanto 100% go to the same school and are always ready with the truth), and after deciding on a punishment, usually a grounding, (bc yeah, good on the kids for protecting their siblings, but they really shouldn't have punched the kid), they all go out for ice cream.

in the month following Serafina's death, Tugger and Misto pretty much did not have the bed to themselves. Hestia's crib was next to Tugger's side, and Hades refused to be parted from his baby sister, so he was in the bed, and Apollo, Iris, and Thetis knew something was off and that their mama wasn't around, and cuddled up with their dads and brother.
I think there was one or two times after Jubilee was adopted that she and Hestia ended up cuddling with their dads (or they cuddled with Hades, because Best Big Brother Award goes to him)
And of Athena's kids... I feel like Persephone was the only one who ever had to do that, but after getting comfortable in the house, Sek and Ares probably approached Tugger and Misto after a bad night and talked about the nightmare with them

the triplets 100% end up wandering off because they spotted one of their favorite characters in Disney. Either Hestia saw Belle, Jubilee saw Alice, or Fabre saw a Haunted Mansion dancer, and the three just go bolting off until they're separated. The good thing is that Tugger and Mistoffelees absolutely predicted what would happen, and attached those little trackers to the backpacks that all the kids are wearing, and after a little frantic searching, they're found, and everything's okay.
like Tugger and Misto don't put their kids on leashes, but they're smart enough to know that with twelve kids in a place like Disney, they're bound to run off, so the trackers are only for those times when they're all together and there's a possibility for separation.

Apollo, because he's a little shit, and he and Calliope team up to get the babies to give their dads the BIGGEST puppy eyes, and it always works, because Tugger and Misto are absolutely unable to resist Ziggy and Persephone

As you can see, I couldn't keep my promise and wrote another fic set in Chat Blanc timeline.
A great thank you to @lad-bug-and-chad-noir for all the help (proof reading, beta reading, commenting, corrections and additions). Cory, I can't thank you enough for it!
The title is inspired by the song performed by Coldplay.
The past two weeks had been difficult for Adrien. On one hand, he was as happy as he could possibly be, now that he finally had his lady as his girlfriend. But at the same time, his life got much harder because of it.
He couldn't help feeling guilty for knowing Ladybug's identity without telling her. Even at their most blissful moments together he occasionally thought about what she would say if she found out the truth. But looking into Marinette's eyes, he saw her love for him and how happy she was, and the sight made it easy for him to push those thoughts away.
But lying in his bed late at night, tossing and turning, he couldn't escape the guilt so easily. As if to make things worse, Plagg used these moments to comment how all this “smelled like rotten cheese” and that Adrien was “asking for trouble”.

When he arrived home after confessing his love to Marinette, the first thing Plagg said was, "Are you happy now, kid?"
Adrien lay down on his bed and sighed contentedly, lightly touching his lips as he recalled the taste of Marinette's kiss.
"Yes, I am," he said dreamily. "She loves me too. She’s my girlfriend now. We have our first date tonight!"
And he actually was happy. But at the same time, he reproached himself for having been so oblivious and not having noticed before how much Marinette loved him. It suddenly occurred to him that Marinette’s relationship with Luka was an attempt to move on from him. How heartbroken she must've been that day at the ice rink during their double date! When she ran away to the bathroom, it was because she was on the verge of tears. How hurt she must've been when he told her that he wanted to start pursuing Kagami romantically. And she didn't show her pain — she even gave him advice on how to woo Kagami, poor thing! Adrien could relate, he knew pretty well what it was like to have unrequited feelings. What made the remorse much worse for him was the knowledge that it was him who had unintentionally hurt such a sweet and caring girl. That night when André got akumatized as Glaciator - Marinette had seemed so sad, when he saw her on her balcony. Sad because of him. She said back then that she was heartbroken – now he realised that it was he who had broken her heart.
"What have I done to you, Milady?" he whispered to himself. "I'm so sorry. I promise I'll never make you cry again."
Deep in thought, he hadn’t noticed that Plagg’s question was sarcastic.
"Congrats, kid," Plagg said dryly, not hearing Adrien’s whispered words. "But what about me? Sugarcube will kill me if she finds out. Have you ever thought about that?"
Adrien looked at him with wide eyes. While he had spent hours contemplating what would happen if Ladybug found out, he hadn’t even considered the possible reaction of Ladybug's kwami.
"I'm not telling you this to ruin your happiness," Plagg said, much softer than a second before. "Just be careful, kid. Sure, it would have been best to act like you hadn’t seen anything and didn’t know anything. But your feelings are louder than the voice of reason right now. I get it, so just be careful."

The first patrol after they started dating passed uneventfully; Chat Noir was extremely cautious not to let anything slip, although it was hard to pretend that he didn't know why Ladybug started to wear her hair down all of a sudden, or where that dreamy smile on her face came from.
Internally, he was over the moon that it was he who made his lady smile like that. She was glowing from within, her gaze slightly unfocused, as if she was thinking of something that had nothing to do with the patrol. Chat Noir knew she was daydreaming about their first date from yesterday, and a goofy smile spread across his face against his will. Ladybug was rather distracted and finished the patrol by telling him that she had a date with the boy of her dreams, waving goodbye absentmindedly and gliding away, leaving Chat Noir completely stunned. He was silent for a few moments, staring blankly into space, repeating the words "the boy of my dreams" in his mind. It would definitely take time to get used to being referred to as the boy of his lady's dreams. Then he laughed quietly and whispered to himself, "Hurry up to your date, Milady! You're my girlfriend, but you don't know that yet." Then he headed home, because he, too, had a date with the person of his dreams.
But then it started getting harder and harder. He called her Buguinette twice during their date. Luckily, it was easy to convince her that he actually said "Marinette''. He silently blessed the day when he unwittingly came up with the pet name so similar to her civilian one.
Whenever he ran into Marinette as Chat Noir, he could barely stop himself from wrapping his arms around her. Whenever he saw Ladybug as Adrien, he couldn't help but notice a light shade of pink rise on her cheeks when she caught sight of him, and he had to remind himself that he was dating Marinette, not Ladybug. He knew at those moments that more than anything she wanted to pull him into an embrace and never let him go ‒ the same exact thing that he was longing for. When visiting Marinette's, he had to fight the temptation to open the purse Marinette left on her desk to see Tikki with his own eyes, Plagg having revealed the other kwami’s hiding spot.
But the hardest part was their regular patrols. When there was an akuma attack, he simply had no time to think about his love life. But when they were alone, it was becoming a torture. Knowing that he was side-by-side with his girlfriend yet being unable to show affection was harder than he could've imagined. Finally, Ladybug started to suspect that something was wrong with her kitty.
"Listen, Chaton, if there's something that's bothering you, please tell me," she once said. "You know you can tell me anything, as long as you don't reveal anything that could expose your identity."
"I'm fine, Milady. What made you think something is bothering me?" he said with a grin, but without meeting her eyes.
"I know you too well, mon Chaton," she said, looking at him intently. "I see when something is off." Ladybug considered him for a moment longer.
"Oh!" she exclaimed, looking genuinely upset. "How didn't I think about that? Poor Minou, I'm so sorry!"
"What do you have to apologise for?" he asked, surprised, lifting his head to meet her gaze.
"You might be heartbroken because I have a boyfriend now. When we talked about this for the first time, you told me you were okay with that, but now I see you aren't."
Chat Noir felt a rush of warmth in his chest. This girl somehow made him fall in love with her even deeper. She was amazing, so sweet and caring. Like the good friend she was, she couldn't help but feel concerned for him, even though actually there was nothing to be worried about. Luckily, he managed to brush her suspicions away with a trademark pun, but he told himself he had to be more cautious from now on and to hide his feelings more carefully.

Now, when Adrien thought back, many curious things about Marinette's behaviour started making sense. He understood why Marinette suddenly looked so sad when he mentioned the girl he loved on their way home from Musée Grévin. She couldn't have known that the girl was her superhero self. Poor Marinette, he could easily imagine her running to her room to cry her eyes out thinking about who it could possibly be ‒ just like him, lying in bed at night and wondering over and over again about that mystery boy who stole his lady's heart .
And her constant blushing and stuttering turned out to be quite the opposite of what he thought. Until recently, he was sure Marinette could barely stand him and was just too nice to admit it. Adrien couldn't hide how hurt he was by the thought of Marinette not liking him. He was quite surprised to find out that blushing and stuttering meant something else entirely.
There was also one detail that worried him: Luka. Luka didn't make his crush on Marinette a secret, and Adrien was sure until recently that Marinette liked him back. He had to admit that he used to feel a little jealous when he saw them together ‒ jealous of their wholesome relationship and of how easily Luka managed to attract someone as lovely as Marinette, something Adrien didn't believe he would ever be able to do.
As they started dating, Luka seemed to be totally fine with it. He told them repeatedly how happy he was for them, and that Marinette deserved to be with the boy she loved (which probably meant that Luka was aware of Marinette's feelings for Adrien). But Adrien didn't fully believe him. Adrien tried to imagine the way things would've gone if he’d discovered Ladybug's identity without knowing that she loved him back. He most likely would've believed that Luka was that mystery boy his lady fell in love with. He could almost feel all the bitterness Luka might be feeling right now.
"Listen, kid, maybe you could stop blaming yourself for a while?" Plagg suddenly asked, hovering before his eyes. "You now have everything you dreamed of since you met Ladybug. Why should you feel sorry that Ladybug fell in love with you and not with that blue-haired guy?"
Adrien didn't respond. How could he explain that sometimes he didn’t feel worthy of his happiness? There were people who felt wronged and heartbroken because of it – namely Luka and Kagami. Kagami hadn’t said much since Adrien told her he was dating Marinette. In fact, now she wasn't talking to him at all, but he could tell by her pouty face that, unlike Luka, she wasn't even going to try to say that she was happy for them.
There was also his relationship with Ladybug. He wasn't afraid of her reaction if she found out the truth, but he still felt guilty. She was so careful and attentive to his feelings. She was going out of her way to not hurt her Chaton. She was so cautious not to mention her boyfriend in front of him. If she only knew that she wouldn’t hurt him, that he was the boy that made her glow with happiness.

He didn't care that she only loved him romantically as Adrien. He was happy with any kind of love his lady offered him. He knew she loved both sides of him, each side differently. Chat Noir was her beloved partner in crime-fighting, her best friend, her favourite catboy – all things she told him herself, when she revealed that she was finally dating the mystery boy.
And all the while, Adrien was that boy. The boy who hung out with her at school and who was constantly sending her love notes, treasuring her adorable blushes. The boy who chatted and laughed with her. The boy who watched romcom movies and shared ice cream with her. The boy who hugged her when she arrived at school. The boy who slow-danced with her. The boy who walked her home and who held her hand. The only boy who knew what Ladybug's kisses tasted like. The boy the superhero of Paris was in love with. And he was happy to be all of this.
Plagg was right after all. Maybe he could stop blaming himself and feeling guilty for a while. He made his lady happy, and that's all that mattered.
Adrien sighed and turned to face the wall. He needed to get some sleep.

She's lived in Stark County for as long as she can remember. Before she was Corie, she was Cordelia.
Cordelia was a girly-girl, raised by a single mother. She grew up believing what little girls often believe -- that one day she'd meet her true love, get married, and live happily ever after, just like in the movies.
High school, she was pretty and popular; a good girl who never so much as got detention. Even had a perfectly nice high school boyfriend, Scott. He wasn't bad -- he wasn't great, either. He was just......nice. He never made her laugh like Gator Tillman did; the sheriff's son, who no one dared to so much as breathe wrong near, the way he'd tease and jab and curse, and say all the things that everyone else was too chicken-shit to say out loud. The way he, and he alone, would call her "Corie."
Then her Ma died, and everything changed. Doctors said she'd overworked herself, neglected her health too long, until it was too late to stop the brain aneurysm from taking her.
Gator's father, Roy Tillman, spoke at her funeral -- being the town preacher, it was expected. What he said would change Cordelia's life, her entire worldview, forever. He blamed her Ma for her own death -- said that the Lord wouldn't have saw fit to take her home so early if she'd only had a husband to help take care of the household.
Corie learned a harsh truth about life that day -- life in this town, life for a girl, for a woman. She got angry.....real angry. And she never really stopped being angry.
Ever since then, she changed. She moved in with her Uncle Mack and her older cousin Charlie -- both of whom fully believed that it was wise for a woman to know how to defend herself. Her cousin taught her to fire a gun, to throw a punch, to twist someone's arm just the right way.....until she got stronger than even him.
Corie became committed to becoming the exact opposite of marriage material, of going against everything Roy Tillman preached. She didn't care what anybody thought of her -- the judgmental stares and whispers from strangers only made her skin thicker.
"There's something wrong with that girl." "You're goddamn right."
Now, Corie basically runs the local Bar & Grill; perfectly sociable with her regulars and anyone who doesn't cause any problems. Start stirring shit up, and she'll throw you out herself -- with a set of brass knuckles for good measure.
She's thought about leaving town, for good.....but every time, she hesitates. Every time, she stays; knowing that now-Sheriff Gator is still, even in adulthood, stuck under his father's thumb. Despite herself, she can't leave him behind. She has to make sure he's okay.

this is the exact thing i love about palisade. endless interpersonal problems, and we know every single reason why those problems exist, going back six in-universe and four irl years. and also, like, forty thousand in-universe years. deep and granular character work is the strength of epics!!!! i am always saying this!!!!
standout of this ep was obviously that brnine/gucci conversation. oh my god. props to austin for hitting bullseye after bullseye of terrible shit to say. no misses, but like, all misses. i am kicked back eating wine flavored popcorn
does gucci know brnine got the blue channel from valence? i don’t think it’d matter, but she so comprehensively does not understand the blue channel in every other way. which is so… fascinating
she kept referring to it as “putting a leash” on clem which is. well. where have we heard THAT before
glad that the frustrated pinball posture is back. i remember quoting that in a post last summer

i know i just made a whole post about how palisade is a season about grief and i’m not gonna make that post again but i just wanna mention even though it didn’t really happen: WHEN SOMEBODY DIES YOU PLAY THEIR FAVORITE MOVIE AT THE NEXT MOVIE NIGHT. ok that is all
actually that’s not all. thisbe: felt culpable for valence’s death, has since come to accept the inevitability. “maybe one day i’ll grieve for all of it all at once, but like, right now i need to focus on other stuff.” making grief a thing for the future, in a way. but who knows when that future is going to arrive. also a distinct approach from the rest of the blue channel, to both recognize the need for grief and then deliberately set it aside. and to compartmentalize unavoidable truths, as thisbe has done for many things in favor of (whatever she perceives to be) her purpose.
so pleased to find out more about the caldera stretch. it’s just outrageously big and i have always wanted to know what’s going on in there. fingers very crossed that eclectic pursues his lead on opposition and frees the divines being used for delegation—would be a great finale move for this season
similarly, really excited to have the afflictions onstage! would love to see that resolved in some way (especially perhaps thisbe talking to them? or partial palisade?)

So I'm using both Autumn in Philadelphia books because I know allure is in the first one. lol
Cloud: She did not want her brother, she wanted her father and since she couldn’t have him, she refused to interact with anyone but her mother. It was heartbreaking watching the little girl drape herself over Audrey’s shoulder while crying for Jon. It brought a dark gloomy cloud over Shawn.
Style: Hannigan’s was a cozy little bar and grill joint on the corner of 5th and Grant. It specialized in home style family cuisine, but in the evenings after nine, mixed drinks were the entree of choice.
Sweet: For a sweet moment, the years dissolved away. He lay down on the couch and put his head on the pillow. He felt Audrey’s fingers begin gently massage his scalp. With a happy sigh, he took that hand and kissed her palm before letting go. When he was fifteen and they would watch TV like this, Shawn would daydream that Jon and Audrey were married, and they had adopted him.
Whisper: His head spun, thoughts and emotion swirling at a dizzying rate. “I don’t understand,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper as he tried to sort through everything he thought he knew. “Cory said Jon married his nurse.”
Table: Julia was setting the table with earbuds securely in her ears. She glanced up from her job and locked eyes with him. Her blue-gray eyes held his gaze with an unblinking stare. There was no hint of expression on her face, just an unnerving look that went right through him. The look made him squirm a bit. She went back to what she was doing without a word to him.
Answer: Katherine paced the lobby of the Library anxiously. Eli and the Matthews boy had been running interference all evening with fishy tales of where Jon was and what he was doing every time she asked about him. Every time she called his room, Cory answered with some inane story: there was a spider in the girls’ room, Trini accidentally started a fire, Shawn was drowning in the bathtub. Eventually, Frankie Stecchino let it slip that Mr. Turner was out on the town. He had started to say more when both Eli and Cory jumped on him.
Wrong: “I always he felt like he was cheating on you,” he admitted, feeling foolish in light of the truth but desperate to explain himself. “I was so angry at him, even though he did nothing wrong. I hated every woman he brought home after you left. Everyone I thought he took home after I left.” He hadn’t meant to say that last part out loud. His eyes were wide with unspoken apologies.
Doubt: Audrey had left his side and was standing in front of him, looking at him expectantly.
“Come on, Shawn. Let’s go home.”
He looked up at her, eyes enormous with unspoken vexation and doubt.
“I’m not ready.”
Foreign: The concept of a generational home was a foreign idea to Shawn. Such a thing had never crossed his mind given his transient life from such a young age. Briefly, he wondered if he would ever have anything close to a history like that.
Stone: The trio exchanged greetings near the pair of stone lions that guarded the library entrance. It took a while for them to find a quiet, hidden spot to hole up in in the Main Reading Room, which was about 78 by 297 feet with a 52-foot-high ceiling. Although it was highly unlikely that they would encounter anyone they knew, the group decided it was better to be safe than sorry.
Vine (oh, you got me here, the closest I could get is Divine): Cory backpedaled through the store in a panic while trying to talk the bully down. He prayed for Divine Intervention; he’d lost his parents and friends in the crowd, and it seemed hopeless to find someone willing to help him.
Spirit: “To watch his spirit be broken down day by day,” he chuckled gleefully. “That’s what they do you know, my people. They take the strong-willed, the proud, the favored, and they break them into nothing.”
Katherine shared his delight and laughed. “I’m sure Cory will regret the day he went to Jon about you.”
Bloom: Totally stumped on this one. Couldn't even find it in the short stories.
Luxury (great words! I'll have to substitute with wealth): The Gold Coast was an affluent part of Western Connecticut. The area was home to many wealthy Manhattan business executives and was a bastion of wealth. The Gold Coast was most notable for its expensive waterfront properties located along its shore as well as the proximity of its cities and towns to New York City. Westport, Connecticut was ideally situated near the middle of the Coast.
Bright: “All right,” he said gruffly, his cheeks blazing bright red. He held his hand out to Shawn. “I want the five bucks.”
Shawn’s eyes sparkled with an impish gleam and his shoulders shook with laughter. He looked back and forth between the two on the couch before he gave Jon’s hand a hard slap.
“I don’t have five bucks. I just wanted to see you guys' kiss!”
Symbol: He watched the snow, yellowed with time, fall on the American symbol of freedom. Shawn was everything but free. He felt trapped, like he was imprisoned in a very tiny cell the walls of which were closing in on him.
Allure: A soft rap at the door interrupted his musings. He instinctively glanced up at the clock first; still four minutes to go until his meeting. He turned his attention to the doorway where a girl he didn’t recognize stood. She glanced around the room with wide stormy eyes. She would have looked as though she stepped off the cover of Allure if it hadn’t been for her apparent nervousness. She clutched a couple of folders in front of her
Spark: Well, at least what Minkus said to upset him now made sense. Jon was still baffled that Minkus of all people could spark this kind of reaction out of Shawn when no one else could. Anyone else would’ve come face to face with Shawn’s temper and fist. How in the world could Minkus send Shawn running to his classroom in tears? As far as he knew, the two hadn’t spoken to each other since the end of middle school.
Shower: Julia was sleeping in, so there was no one to fight over the bathroom. He stared at himself in the mirror and made a face. He had the worst case of bedhead. Determined not to go out with Jon looking like he’d stuck his finger in an electric socket, Shawn ended up in the shower. The entire time he worried about what he and Jon would talk about as this was his first outing with the superintendent as an adult.
Heat: Ms. Tompkins wasn't anyone special to him in that regard. Had it not been for her connection to Jon, she would have simply been one more teacher who couldn’t wait to get him out of her class. One he would not have remembered. However, the intense heat of the gaze of the people in the room was formidable and uncomfortable and he felt pressured into formalities he had no interest engaging in.
That was challenging and fun!
