I adore the new underwater creatures in Fontaine omg I cannot shut up about them they are SO cute

Like look at them, I'm 90% sure these r sea slugs or based off sea slugs, because they very strongly remind me of the blue glaucus and cyerce elegans nudibranches. I'm so excited to see them in game, they look so cuddly even though they probably aren't....

And the jellyfish!! They look so squishy, and also they've got big dumbo octopus vibes bc of those ear flaps, it makes them look even cuter

The manta rays r also so cool.. the bottom two look matching and they kind of remind me of the divda rays in enkanomiya??

also omg look at the seahorses.. the big one lowkey reminds me a bit of a dragon as well, which reminds me of how a lot of dragons are depicted with pearls in China, and the eastern myth of how seahorses are actually baby dragons..

And the lil baby seahorses too!! I love how they look like they have little capes, and the variations in their designs make me think of other sea animals, such as the blue tang or the emporer angelfish for the two seahorses on the left, and a shark for the one on the right!

And them! They look like somebody combined seals with manatees and created these lil guys... They look extra friendly and soft n squishy

AND THE OTTERS... look at them!! They are so so adorable, but they also lowkey give me beaver vibes, probably because of their tail and maybe a little bit of how they're shaped? Either way they're quite charming and I hope that we can catch or befriend them cause <333

The gulls are just Neat <3 They look a lot less mean than real seagulls, like they're just some silly lil dudes. They also remind me of corvisquire and corviknight from pokemon a lil bit? But maybe that's just me

Lastly, the umbrellafinches are just adorable. You cannot tell me they don't look like those photos where people put flowers on the heads of little ducklings that make it look like they're wearing a cute little flower hat.

Actually a bonus if u actually decided to read lol, but I noticed these in the background of one of the shots from the livestream?

In the livestream the way they move is w/ undulating fins (think of how a cuttlefish's head fins move, or how stingrays do) which lead me to think that they're inspired by stingrays? Maybe even are some sort of stingray-adjacent thing? But tbh they also kind of remind me of nudibranches too with their pattern and the little horns on them so who knows... but oh man am I excited for them and all the other new lil creatures..

Let’s talk about what partner pokemons our gang would have!

Toby: I think a Pawniard is perfect, they’re literally made out of blades, what more could she want? Also according to some of the pokedex entries they ignore their injuries while fighting which..... is very Toby not gonna lie

May: I was thinking about a few options here, like Absol (bc death omen) or Mimikyu (for obvious reasons) but honestly, those are more general fetch things than they are May specifically. The pokemon with the most May vibes is Swirlix. I mean it’s literally cotton candy, I think May would vibe with that

Quentin: Aegislash. I was first considering this for Toby, but it’s a sword rather than knives which Quentin is a lot better with, plus his magic smells of steel. But also. Listen to this pokedex entry for it: “Apparently, it can detect the innate qualities of leadership. According to legend, whoever it recognizes is destined to become king”, which is just too good to pass up. I was gonna give him one of it’s preevolutions first, bc he’s still baby, but honestly he’s become really competent lately and he doesn’t do things by halves, his partner would definitely be fully evolved already.

Tybalt: Zoroark. Tybalt is such a theater nerd he’d definitely love an illusion pokemon. Obviously I considered giving him a cat, but if every Cait Sidhe only has cat pokemon it’s gonna get boring quick. Plus: “Bonds between these Pokémon are very strong. It protects the safety of its pack by tricking its opponents.” just screams Tybalt to me

Raj: Charmeleon. Bc I feel like Raj would really vibe with a dragon, and Charmeleon is “hot-headed” and “tough fights could exite this pokemon” which is a very Raj vibe not gonna lie. He doesn’t get a Charizard bc he’s still baby. It’ll probably evolve when he becomes king

The Luidaeg: Skrelp. Because let’s be real, she doesn’t need a super strong pokemon she’s the mf seawitch and she’d vibe with a cute looking kelp seahorse. Especially one that has this description: “It drifts in the ocean, blending in with floating seaweed. When other Pokémon come to feast on the seaweed, Skrelp feasts on them instead. “

Raysel: Banette. Because, look, all it’s pokedex entries say it’s an angry doll that got abandondend by the child who owned it. I feel like Raysel with her anger at everyone around her could really vibe with that.

Acacia: I don’t think she’d be that strongly into pokemon training tbh and I’m only really mentioning her bc uh. The pokedex entry for Phantump: “ According to old tales, these Pokémon are stumps possessed by the spirits of children who died while lost in the forest.” So basically her forest is probably filled with them and she absolutely loves and takes care of all of them.

I don’t understand how anyone could dislike R when we hardly know anything about her. We have a few pics and videos and it looks like she is very similar to Tom. She seems low maintenance and certainly isn’t in Thai for attention or follows or free clothes like other gfs.

I don't know how to explain this tbh. We obviously don't know any of these people and this is unfair to like or dislike anyone based on the "vibes" they give. The Masked Singer Season 5 Episode 2 Recap: It’s Group B Time, let’s meet them! (Commentary & Guesses)

Hello my fellow Masked Singer fanatics! Welcome (or welcome back) to Ana’s Masked Singer recap, where I, Ana (nice to virtually meet you btw), recap every single episode of The Masked Singer. Here we are again with season 5, but this time another group, Group B, which consist of Black Swan 🖤🦢, Piglet 🐷, Chameleon 🦎, Grandpa Monster 👹 👴, and Phoenix 🦜.

So, let’s begin with the first eliminated contestant of Group B:

Commentary: Ok, so this wasn’t surprising whatsoever, she sang Tik Tok by Kesha and you can obviously tell that she isn’t a singer at all. Like idk how else to explain it to you guys, but I guess she was talk singing... kind of like Wendy/the lips last season... so it was kind of easy the moment she opened her mouth to start singing to recognize immediately who it was...

Having said that, she was revealed to be (as I knew, this one wasn’t hard)...

Caitlyn Jenner

Hehe I knew it! Again, like Wendy Williams aka the lips, this was way too obvious. She already walked around Hollywood Blvd with the Don’t Talk to me hoodie on so I knew she was going to be on the show but the min I saw Phoenix, the clues, and the moment she opened her mouth, I was so certain it was Caitlyn. No, I am not a big Kardashian/Jenner fan tbh but I used to watch the show way back when.... like in 2016? I am not sure, but I recognized her voice immediately.

Now onto my guesses for the remaining 4:

1. Black Swan 🦢🖤

Commentary: So she sang Barracuda by Heart and damn, she got a strong voice! It’s a really amazing voice, even though the song choice wasn’t my favorite, because it didn’t suit her voice completely and showcase her range, but she was badass (can I say that? Whatever, this is my show, I’ll say it, it’s not THAT bad of a word) tbh. In certain parts, she was like screaming a lot and I was like um maybe this isn’t her best song choice but her voice is amazing! She gives me Seahorse mixed with Flamingo vibes, I love her!

Reasoning/Clues: there are so many clues that match but her voice is the main thing that clicked for me that it was her, but let’s look at those clues so you can get the picture:

Wanted Poster with RV highlighted= she appeared in the movie RV with Robin Williams

She talks about being trapped and someone else’s prey and then getting out of it= she was trapped in her record label & there was controversy surrounding it and she had to sue her label for not releasing her music

A 5 on a watch= she toured with 5th harmony and has released 5 albums

Cluedledoo (Rooster) clue= she covered a monster= she covered one of T-Pain aka the Monster from season 1’s songs

2. Piglet 🐷

Commentary: He was my favorite of the night with his rendition of Speechless by Dan + Shay! You guys know if you have seen my recaps in season 3 (or even last week with Robopine) that I have a soft spot for a guy who has a super silky voice, like either boy band type or R&B smooth af kinda vibe (i.e. Fox in season 2, Turtle in season 3, Robopine in season 5).... or should I say any guy who can falsetto and Piglet is giving me those boy band smooth vibes, I love it so much! His voice is soooo familiar I am so sure about this one by the way.

Nick Lachey

Reasoning/Clues: This one I recognized immediately, the voice was really easy to figure out, but these clues also are pretty convincing (oh and he was on Ken’s show, I Can See Your Voice, so it’s not surprising that he would be on this show):

The clue package had a dating show vibe = reminiscent of Love is Blind, the Netflix dating show he hosts with his wife Vanessa

The world saw his heart break= he had a very public relationship with his ex-wife Jessica Simpson and they even had a reality show together called Newlyweds

Cluedle-doo clue: “knows how to stay cool even in the heat”= referring to his past aka his boy band 98 degrees (get it? Because that’s the heat and they are cool because they are a boy band... well played Masked Singer well played... I wanna meet whoever makes these clues because they are great with puns and they seem super clever)

3. Chameleon 🦎

Commentary: Chameleon surprised me I am not gonna lie. I thought he was going to be another athlete like Whatchamacallit last season or White Tiger from season 3 because he was so tall but nope he surprised me with his rendition of Ride with Me by Nelly. He seems like a legit rapper and I liked him a lot than I thought I would honestly so this guess isn’t totally out of left field.

Wiz Khalifa

Reasoning/Clues: so yeah, the voice and the height kinda gave it away to me (Wiz is 6 foot 4 inches and his body type matches the chameleon), but also yeah clues I have to give you guys some logic bombs instead of being like eh that voice and height BOOM WIZ KHALIFA... yeah no it doesn’t work like that, so here are the logic bombs hehe:

Dice with 2 and 3 on it= he did a song with Miley Cyrus called 23

007 clue= he has a song called (yes this is real, look it up) James Bong (omg I am trying not to laugh while typing this but whatttt?! Google really is a gem omg 😳😂) and he played James Bond in the music video

His love of technology & “put tech in technicolor”= apparently, the guy is a huge tech geek and has said it in a lot of interviews (wow humans are so complex and cool, I would have never thought that this man is a tech savvy guy... but the more you know I guess <P.S. 4. Grandpa Monster

Commentary: He sang Mambo No. 5 and yeah it’s a basic choice for a song, but I liked it. He is not my favorite by any means and now that I listen to it again, I can only hear this person and I am not a fan of him like whatsoever (even tho I gotta acknowledge he has changed and I have *I KNOW... I HATE ME TOO* agreed with stuff he has said in his podcast un ironically.... yeah I am so sorry, I hate myself for saying this too... anyways let’s just get to the person I mean

Logan Paul

Reasoning/Clues: Yup, um... I really hope I am wrong but honestly ever since someone said it in the YouTube comments section of his performance, I can’t un hear it and I am shook honestly (at least it’s not his brother... I mean we can get worse, and he has respected the pandemic and not been a prick like his *cough* brother *cough*... just saying.. oh and if you don’t know what I am talking about or who this is, he’s a YouTuber who got into some um controversy because he filmed a dead body in 2018 so there’s that... oh and his brother has done a billion worse things than him, but you can Google that one if you are interested in finding out more because it’s too much for me to talk about and we are not even talking about Jake (that’s the brother))... Anyways, sorry, I ramble, but ugh the clues seem convincing and it irks me that it is because I am not a fan of neither of these guys and I don’t want them in the show but whatever I guess he’s the lesser of 2 evils:

Question is Casca black? I know this is a Japanese manga so I'm assuming that the majority of the cast will be at least be of Asian descent. But as a black girl nerd, I see myself represented through casca

Hello and thanks for the ask!EDIT: some people made some great additions to this post and I have to update some incorrect information on here, I will do so as soon as I get home!

In terms of ethnicity/race/nationality, I think Casca is very likely of Kushan descent. If you look at baby Casca and the Kushan children from volume 29 ish, they look very similar (e.g. note the hair swirl at the top of the head).

The Kushan Empire did exist in the 1st century and stretched over today’s East Pakistan and North India. The name of the Emperor of this empire was “Kanishka” (insert big thincc here). As far as my knowledge of this location and its history goes, people tend to be lighter skinned in Pakistan and North India, compared to South India, where people are usually of very dark skin color (to this day people are still being discriminated because of their skin color; in their medieval past, they possibly attempted to prohibit race mixing to preserve the lighter skinned “brahmin masterrace” via hindu caste system, but that topic deserves its own documentary lol).

[image source: wikipedia]So I guess Casca’s skin tone ranging from tan to dark black definitely lies in the realm of possibility and canon. The movie trilogy depicts her with a tan and lighter skin tone. In Kentaro Miura’s colorized illustrations she appears to be tanned to dark-skinned and her skin is painted very dark if the environmental light is sparse (at least, from what I recall). From an artist POV that’s how darker skin realistically behaves in strong lighting conditions, too, e.g. In this one:

But then we do have illustrations of her that show her rather tan and light-skinned. And I have a hard time telling whether that’s because of the medium (colored pencil/water color, where colors are usually less saturated and brighter) or because Miura actually wanted her to be lighter-skinned.

I personally like the idea of a dark-skinned Casca a LOT (like in the 1997 anime) and that’s how I illustrate her when I color berserk pages, too. I think it fits her and adds to her character and mysteriousness for some reason, like a “black beauty”, y’know? She is an amazing character, she is very strong, honorable, righteous, smart, sensitive, vulnerable and still feminine. She is also smarter and more strategical than she seems at first glance. It’s amazing that one of the best written female characters that I know of can be such an idol for POC people. We really really need more characters like this tbh. I’m as pale as swiss cheese but I relate to her struggle so much more than any other female character I’ve read about regardless (the only other character that comes to my mind is Lady Oscar). 

What ethnicity are other Berserk characters? 

From what I understand, they seem to be mostly European. Let’s take a look at their names, settings and history:

the Vandimion family being involved with the Pope and the “Holy See” (=> Vatican => Italy)

the names Farnese/Serpico both appear to be Italian

Historically, during the Renaissance there even was a family with deep connection to the papal state called House of Farnese.

Serpico could be a reference to a 1973 movie that is about real life Frank Serpico, who disclosed a network of corruption at the NYPD, and also has Italian citizenship. In other words it appears to be a common italian surname

For side characters, we get names like Gambino (Early Golden Age), Martino (Spring flowers of distant days), and the infamous Tonio whose death was mourned during Lost Children and eventually became a meme. They all sound very Italian to me

Berserk’s Chuder/Tudor Empire also has a real life equivalent: it was a Welsh Royal House in the 15th century

While we’re at it, the French and English did fight a 100-year-war in real life twice [x][x], and - lo and behold! - so did Midland and the Chudor/Tudor Empire

Isma is a name of Arabic origin and means “protection” and “safeguarding the prophets”. It’s kinda funny considering she saved Isidro from falling off the Seahorse during their Sea God battle, and her mermaid mom & Company helped Guts getting out of the Sea God as well

The name Isidro/Isidoro is of Spanish origin. Isidro might be the only one with a name that appears to have Japanese origin [incorrect, see edit].

Laban appears to be a French surname (among others)

Owen is obviously a anglo-saxon name 

Roderick is a typical germanic name. This is very fitting if you take a look at how Roderick describes the distribution of power in regards to the Holy See during volumes 29-31 or so: he states his kingdom lies in the sphere of influence of their “common religion”, but is not obliged to offer the Holy See military help, implying a division of religious orientation, very likely catholic and protestant. That makes Roderick’s nation a protestant country.  What is also interesting is the fact the reformation started in medieval germany (see Martin Luther) 

Miura makes use of Shaman, Celtic and Hebrew symbols (see Stonehenge-like structures, monoliths; Schierke’s protection spell on Guts’ brand has Hebrew symbols) when referring to magic or magic rituals. The castles and interiors are mostly of European architecture as well (e.g. ballroom at Vritannis has strong Castle of Versailles vibes). This tells us a little bit about the culture of the Berserkverse

“Veykings” make a brief appearance on Elfhelm in episode 359

Now we also have more characters with different nationality/ethnicity:

okay, so, the bella sara tarot deck. below the cut because it’s a LONG post.

My process: I decided to limit this to cards I physically own, even though all the newer cards do seem to be archived pretty well on the wiki, because I think shuffling and touching the cards is an important tarot aspect, and I wanted the deck to be functional. Not counting item cards and shiny variations, there are a total of 90 unique cards in the first and second series, the only ones I ever purchased, and luckily I have all 90!

Since there are 78 cards in a tarot deck, I had to pick out 12 to discard. I settled on several non horses (artemis the zebra, pedro the donkey, dino the dinosaur, kio the lion, treasure the seahorse, wavebreaker the dolphin), three foals (bellisimo, beauty, spottie), cajus for including a merman in the artwork, friends for featuring two horses and only one name, and dynamo because i simply felt the art style wasn’t very realistic and didn’t fit in with the rest of the deck.

From there I divided the remaining cards up by their “symbol” at the top. conveniently, there are four suits! I decided the heart best fit with the cups, the flower with wands, the moon with pentacles, and the horseshoe with the sword. Great. Then I dug through every pile and pulled cards I thought best fit each major arcana card, while keeping 14 of each suit to represent the minor arcana.

For the unfamiliar, bella sara cards feature a horse portrait, but also a little message of positivity. A little horse motto. It’s a strange franchise but 2007 was a weird time for all of us. I mainly used the messages to sort these horses, but aesthetics and name played a small role. I used this site’s description of each major arcana card to help because I don’t know that much about tarot tbh. all images from the bella sara wiki.

The Fool - Luna - “A wonderful and exciting world awaits you.” a few other cards mention having the heart of a child or seeing the world as a child, but this one really expresses the beginning of a journey, the openness to the world that the fool offers, if slightly more uplifting because. well. it’s bella sara.

The Magician - Tao - “The whole world is at your feet.”  i was kind of hoping for a card that was more about being unique. but the magician also represents having what you need to accomplish your goals and should set forth. world’s your oyster. at your feet.

The High Priestess - Santos - “Be mindful of your senses and your intuition.” was slightly wary of assigning a stallion to this role but gender is dead and the high priestess is all about intuition

The Empress - Honey - “Create something beautiful. It will make you feel peaceful.” my first instinct was to make the titular bella the empress. But honey’s message about beauty, and her portrait surrounded by nature, won out.

The Emperor - Cantaro - “Develop your ability to lead. Ask a wise person for advice.” This card specifically mentions leadership and wisdom, a relatively easy pick.

The Hierophant - Angel - “Angel is coming. Make space and let heaven help you.” another pretty easy one, very few cards mention heaven or spirituality.

The Lovers - Yin & Yang - “You always have a choice.” i considered discarding these two early on, but felt the message was too tarot-relevant to discard, and they fit very well here. the only card in our deck with two horses who aren’t a mare and foal, reminding you of choices.

The Chariot - Tai - “Be resolute and energetic in what you do.” wavered on this one for a while but I think resolve and energy are related to determination and drive enough for this to work.

Strength - Thunder - “I give you courage. Now you can release your fears.” this is one where the portrait was pretty relevant - a few cards mention courage but this one is the most forceful and strong about it.

The Hermit - Mushu - “Find a peaceful place where you can gather new energy.” big hermit card energy, back away from it all and recharge

The Wheel of Fortune - Eagle - “See the world from above like an eagle.” fuck this card in particular. took me ages to find something that kind of matches, and even then it’s a stretch. the only real match here is that the wheel of fortune urges perspective, and so does this eagle colored horse.

Justice - Grey - “If you really want it, it will come to you.” this was a tough one too. The vaguely karmic aspect is appealing to pair this one with justice, but it’s still not the best match in the deck. i’m trying my best.

The Hanged Man - Yasmin - “Retreat and gather new energy for taking steps on the road.” the hanged man is about cutting your losses, sacrificing something small to move forward, and letting go of what’s not working. retreat seems like a good fit.

Death - Chung - “Let go of pain and sorrow. The road will open and everything will go right.” assigning a horse trading card to death was not a task i thought i would face. but i kinda vibe with this pick - death is about endings and new beginnings, so it’s important to move past your pain and onto new roads. also, traditionally, death rides a white horse.

Temperence - Peace - “Those who don’t think of winning or losing have peace in mind.” kind of a weird one, hard to find a good match, but I think this patient, peaceful war horse fits.

The Devil - Parlez - “Make a plan and commit completely to it.” crazy enough there really aren’t any uhhhhhh demonic horses in this children’s trading card series from ‘07. went with the interpretation that what traps you is your own unwillingness to move forward. also there is a skull on this horse’s forehead. kinda metal?

The Tower - Macon - “It is wise to accept that there are things you can’t do.” this card is one of very few that isn’t relentlessly positive and instead encourages you to accept failure. Let that tower, or stable i guess, crumble.

The Star - Star - “It is not what you do but who you are that is important.” i simply had to. nice healing message.

The Moon - Sheng - “Understand the past. Hold onto the great things and move forward alone.” the description for this bad boy mentions not allowing worry to cloud your past or future, and this horse is all about parsing your past to move clear-headed towards the future. nice moon colored palette.

The Sun - Bella - “Think positive every day! Feel the bliss of joy and energy that comes with it.” here she is, the figurehead of our series, the queen of happiness, joy, optimism, energy... our sun.

Judgement - Starfighter - “Believe in your vision and make it come true.” this was another tough match, i had to focus on the “you can change yourself and your future” aspect of judgement to make any of them fit, and this was my fave card that mentions vision.

The World - Sunny - “The wind blows. The sun is shining. Surround yourself with positive friends.” it’s not my favorite match, but it does have a certain element of being in the right place in the world, with a sense of completion.

Okay! so that’s the major arcana. For the minor arcana, while i did put the cards within each deck into an order I thought fit the ace through king, I was far less particular than with our major deck. Went with vague associations instead of real connection to each card. I’m also not gonna list out all my reasons, because while I may be an insane person, I’m not quite ready to dedicate that much time to this weird, niche late night project. Pictured below is the ace of each deck.

what’s your favorite kind of weather? what do you like to do during that weather?

SNOW. The best time of my life was when I got stuck on a mountain at a ski resort during a blizzard and it ended up snowing three feet. It was the first and only time I ever got to ski on real, fresh, powder and it was incredible. Snow makes me so incredibly happy, the best days, in my opinion, are either spent on the slopes or on a beach.

what’s your favorite scent of candle? Perfume?

Okay so there is this local family whose sons started a candle company, their website is here, and they have a candle called “Love Jones” and it smells SO GOOD 10/10 recommend it’s a scent combo of apple, vanilla, amber, and sandalwood. it is like an orgasm for your nose i swear. and for perfume, it is a retired bath and body works scent called “Bonjour Paris” my friend got it for me for my birthday because I’m a total francophone lol.  

do you have a favorite flower? what is it? do you know the meaning and it is important to you?

kinda basic but my favorite flower is probably a rose. i have really good memories of roses and also apparently it is my birth month flower.

if you could get any tattoo you wanted what would it be? why? where would you get it?

so I have a couple of tattoos on my “to get next when I have money” list. i would either get a red seahorse tattoo or a tree of life tattoo. the red seahorse has a lot of significance to my family and my brother and sister in law already got tats done of them, and I would probably get it on my leg like right above my ankle. the tree of life is one i’ve been wanting for awhile, the symbol itself I connect to a lot as it represents a connection between those on earth and their loved ones who have passed on, I'm debating getting it either on my bicep above my elbow or between my shoulder blades. 

do you have a favorite poem? why is it your favorite?

Yes, I absolutely do, it is The Sun Rising by John Donne and it was introduced to me by my high school literature teacher. It is my favorite because it is a description of a really special and intimate love, the dude is the king of pillow talk tbh. Also my best friend made me a book when I went to college and she wrote it out for me and I cried every time I read it lol. 

what’s your favorite color and what things or feelings does it remind you of or make you feel?

Green has always been my favorite color, it reminds me of when I was little and would run around barefoot in the grass in my grandparent's backyard. It is just a really soothing color to me.

I would wish for happy and healthy lives for all my loved ones. 

do you believe in the paranormal? ever had an experience?

I absolutely believe in the paranormal, if you watch Buzzfeed Unsolved, I am like Ryan, like uber fascinated by everything but also terrified. Some people may not say that it counts but I have loved ones who have passed away and I will feel their presence from time to time. 

do you or have you ever gotten high? what was it like for you?

lmao i have only been high once and my brother took me into his smoking shed because he said he needed a break from my parents and he also wanted to show me the nest that a bunch of flying squirrels had made in his shed. it was my first time so i didn’t really feel any effects from it but i had also already consumed two white claws so yeah. my brother and i both have seizure disorders and also major anxiety issues so i’m not saying it’s like the best thing to go for as a coping mechanism or to self medicate but like every once in awhile, not a bad thing.

@science-seahorse Mhm mhm!! Music is a big thing for me too. Like I remember watching Black Panther in the movie theater and thinking at some point ‘holy crap this soundtrack is amazing’ and it’s not the kind of stuff I typically listen to but it was so good. Or even KH with its gorgeous soundtrack. Running around Monstropolis and pausing at one point to go ‘OMG I LOVE THIS WORLD THEME.’

XD My music tastes are all over the place, from 80s to Disney to Top 40 Hits trash and in recent years I’ve been into EDM/Dubstep. But I remember when P!ATD came out with the Death of a Bachelor album and for like a month straight I listened to jazz and swing. Not to mention the Postmodern Jukebox channel on YouTube with their jazz/swing/ragtime/etc covers of songs that pull me back into that every now and then. So yeah, the instant Other Friends started playing I was all “!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS OMG !!!!!!!!!!!”

🤔 As for the art side, we’ve had this resurgence lately of that old-timey cartoon style, with Cuphead and Bendy and now Spinel (who also gave me Animaniacs vibes tbh, so childhood feels there) and I think it’s great! (Omg Betty Boop. Let’s bring back Betty Boop! 👀)

1/2 I guess I'm just a suspicious person, but Ed Sheeran speaking out of school about a mate seems so uncharacteristic. I keep looking at the footage and it seems that James and Oliver weren't surprised at all. It was like they already knew what Ed was going to say.

2/2 In all the years I've been following Tom and HP, I don't remember any man except Rupert speaking about any of Tom's alleged relationships which I think was a publicity stunt. Perhaps all this Seahorse drama is a publicity stunt as well. Seems like when Tom wants to generate a relationship buzz, he revisits Seahorse. JMO. Hugs to you Val.

The way the others react with a slight nod or movement and a glance down as though to say "right, done that bit". Plus; the lads would have noticed what Ed said and perhaps would spoken to TF and have edited it if it wasn't meant to 'come out'. So I do believe it was a subtle way of announcing it whilst causing a little fan drama!

Firstly, I gotta point out the contestants of Group B, which this time were 6 unlike A and C which only have 5 contestants total.. and those 6 are (order from left to right, top row first then bottom row in the image below) Crocedile, Gremlin (the purple fluffy guy), Seahorse, Whatchamacallit (the blue and red hair cousin It thing), Baby Alien, and Serpent.

Alrighty so this elimination is gonna be a bit different than usual because it isn't the norm of what usually happens with these sorts of things (I'll tell you what I mean in a sec)...

So the first contestant unmasked for Group B actually wasn't eliminated (I know what you are thinking... "whaaatttt Anaaaaa that makes no sense")... but actually he unmasked himself (whatttt?! yeah you read that right, he legit was hot and suffocating and he seemed super over it and just took it off by himself... yup, that happened like what mind blown!

Anyways the mask who did this was...

*DRUMROLL PLEASE*

THE GREMLIN

Performance: He sang Stand by Me by Ben E. King and honestly it was meh, it was really breathy as if he forgot some of the words, I don’t know if he was overcome with emotion (because he dedicated it to his friend who passed away) or what, I felt kind of bad but I low key feel like he was going to go home regardless, but on the bright side I love the costume and it was a great song choice for his range. He has a very raspy voice... like almost like a smoker’s voice and I can kind of tell that he’s an older man, but I couldn’t recognize the singer. 

So the Gremlin ended up being revealed to be....

MICKEY ROURKE 

Ugh this upsets me because I don’t know who he is so I really couldn’t guess him correctly. I searched it up and apparently he’s an actor and director and was in Iron Man 2, which I’ve never seen like ever. But yeah, he did good, he looked kinda drunk not gonna lie and I guess he was suffocated and got over it. 

Alright now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to my favorite part, the remaining 5 contestants: 

1. THE SEAHORSE

Performance: I really love Seahorse, she’s one of my favorites of the night and so far in the season in general. Her performance of Rihanna’s Only Girl in the World was amazing and I definitely knew who that voice is...

My guess and I am so sure about this guys is singer, songwriter, American Idol alum... 

TORI KELLY 

Dude like that voice is so recognizable... but also because of the clues: 

Emotion Ocean= she’s super emotional when it comes to songwriting, like she legit said in an interview that she cries a lot

Tea Party= she hosted tea parties with her fans in 2019 (well before all this ofc) 

Rainbow Frog= sang Rainbow Connection with Kermit the Frog 

Judges’ Guesses: 

Jenny: Halsey (say what now? This doesn’t sound like her... is Jenny ok? This episode she’s been messing up with guesses more than Ken... you’ll see what I mean) 

Nicole: Hailee Steinfeld (meh, that’s ok I guess, but not quite) 

Robin: Bebe Rexha (he was onto something when he said country but then he said this, but this is the closest guess of the 3)  

2. THE SERPENT 

Performance: This one is my other favorite of this group. His performance of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers was absolutely stunning, I got chills! If it is who I think it is, I love him (partially because I think I know who it can be) 

I think the Serpent can be actor of the iconic Broadway sensation Hamilton aka Aaron Burr, Sir:

LESLIE ODOM JR. 

Dude like I feel pretty good about this guess because of the voice and the clues:

Map of the Caribbean= reference to the beginning of Hamilton where Alexander Hamilton is from

Jr. References= he’s a jr. 

Between medicine & music= he played a doctor on Murder on the Orient Express in 2017

Number 31118 (this was from the Sunday before the premiere but still worth noting)= 3 albums, 11 stage productions, 18 years on Broadway OR bible verse Romans 3:11-18 which was written by Paul, a character he played on Rent

Judges’ Guesses:

Jenny: John Legend (See what I’m saying? Jenny, what are you doing man? That is not John Legend, like they don’t sound alike at all) 

Ken: Daveed Diggs (Wow! Ken got it kinda close, I’m proud, that’s an achievement for him we gotta give it to him) 

Nicole: Leslie Odom Jr. (WOOOO!! Yesss Nicole!!) 👏🏼

3. THE CROCODILE 

Performance: I also really liked Crocodile and his performance of It’s My Life by Bon Jovi was great! I feel like I know who this is, and I am pretty familiar (well, more or less) with 90s and early 2000s boybands and this one is someone in that realm I am so sure of it... 

Ok so being more specific, I think it’s boybander from The Backstreet Boys: 

NICK CARTER 

The voice and the clues were a dead giveaway:

The Vegas vibes in the clue package= he performed in Vegas with Backstreet Boys 

Water clues (the water slide and happiest in water)= he was born in Orlando, FL home of the theme parks and FL is also some of the Gators so it would makes sense with the costume

Grew up in Hollywood= moved there when really young

Judges’ Guesses:

Ken: John Hamm (and he’s back, that was a terrible guess)

Nicole: Nick Lachey (so close, but not quite)

Robin: Donnie Wahlberg (um, Jenny agreed, how does she not know that this ain’t your husband?!) 

4. THE WHATCHAMACALLIT

Performance:  His performance of “I Wish” by Skee-Lo was good, not my favorite, but I didn’t hate it. I am kind of feeling that it’s an athlete due to the height and also how he speaks. 

So this guess is an idea I got from the Internet (subject to change because I have no clue about sports players): 

Rashad Jennings?

The only thing I got from the clues was:

Dancing with Stars= he won DWTS 

Clues IDK

Orange Jelly= ?

The clock with the Bear Mask on the 5= ? 

Swinging Keys= ?

Judges’ Guesses:

Nicole= Swiss Beats (meh idk) 

Ken: Damon Lillard (I like this guess, tbh.. I kinda agree with it being a sports player)

Robin: Tyler the Creator (that would be cool but I don’t think so) 

5. THE BABY ALIEN

Performance: His performance of Faith by George Micheals was good too, better than I expected for the costume ngl. I had pretty low expectations but I am pleasantly surprised. He isn’t my favorite by any means and I am also a bit stumped by him especially because of that fake Russian accent, but I am in between 2 people at the moment....

The 2 people I am in between are either Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham or actor 

JASON SEGEL 

It kinda sounds like him and the clues are a bit confusing but there’s one I understand too:

Tony Awards Reference= he’s been on Broadway 

The mask’s a puppet and Segel is a big fan of puppets (He was also in the Muppets movie) 

CLUES IDK 

Space clues= ?

Friends Reference (2nd Gear)= ?

Ferris Beuller references= ?

Judges’ Guesses:

Jenny: Ralph Macchio (meh I guess that’s good) 

Nicole: David Schwimmer (not bad, but idk it doesn’t really sound like it)

Ken: Freddie Prinze Jr. (ya, no)

The Masked Singer Season 4 Episode 4: Group B Playoff Time! A Reveal That Had Me Shook AF... Commentary and Guesses

Hi fellow Masked Singer lovers! Welcome (once again) to Ana's Masked Singer recap, where I, Ana, recap every single episode of the Masked Singer. If you are new, welcome! So what I do is pretty much start with the eliminated contestant, give my thoughts (this one's juicy based on the title, I promise you that), and then go into my guesses of the remaining contestants/my thoughts on their performances. Alright, so explination out of the way, let's get started

(Warning: The below info contains spoilers for the episode, read at your own risk... don't comment that I spoiled it for you because this girl warned you.)

Alright, so first and foremost, let’s talk about the shocker of the night, the eliminated contestant who was...

*DRUMROLL PLEASE*

The Baby Alien 👽

Performance: You know his performance of It’s Time by Imagine Dragons was actually pretty good, I am kind of sad that he left so soon. I knew it was either him or Whatchamacallit who was going to leave, but my money was on Whatchamacallit so I was kinda bummed to see Baby Alien go. However, it made for a great reveal, like damn I am still shocked and it’s been days (apologies for the delay in this btw, it’s been a busy couple of weeks).

So Baby Alien was revealed to be to my surprise...

Mark Sanchez

Ok so if you don't know who he is, neither did I. The shocking part for me was that he is a freaking NFL QUARTERBACK and I was totally expecting an actor or a comedian under that mask. That Russian accent really got me, oh my God! Having said that, I am really impressed by him since he had to carry a 40 pound thing & learn how to maneuver a puppet. It's super cool to see an athlete really into acting, Broadway, and musie gives me low key Troy Bolton from HSM vibes and I love it!

Here are some clues that you (and me too) probably have missed:

Hot dog, Friends clues, NY clues in general- I mean he was the NY Jet quarterback so there’s that

Parade with the roses- his college team was USC and he played in the Rose Bowl helping them win in 2009

Horseshoe, horse clue- other teams he played for like Denver Broncos or USC Trojans

Alright so yup, now that that’s cleared up (omg still surprised), let’s go into the 4 remaining Group B contestants:

1. The Serpent 🐍

Performance: His performance of The Bones by Maren Morris was amazing and omg I am in between 2 people when I listen to this, but nevertheless he is one of my favorites on the show so we stan.

As for my guess, I still gotta believe that it is Broadway sensation...

Leslie Odom Jr.

Ok so when I said I was stuck between 2 people, I meant him or Chris Jackson (who is also in Hamilton and played George Washington), but I feel pretty strong about Leslie because of the clues:

Rent reference= he began his Broadway career in the show Rent at the age of 17

Crossaint= could be either a reference to a Smash episode he was in called “Coffee and Crossiants, anyone?” or that he was involved in the 2018 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

Childhood (Physical on-stage) Clue: the baby bottle and “Got Clues?” = He did a commercial called Got Hamilton for the Got Milk campaign

2. The Crocodile

Performance: So he sang Toxic by Britney Spears which was an interesting song choice ngl, but I really enjoyed it more than the first one for sure. His falsetto was insane in this song and I really enjoyed it, you can tell he’s a pro singer, and I can recognize that voice anywhere...

I am still gonna go with for my guess as one of the Backstreet Boys...

Nick Carter

The clues really sealed the deal for me to think it’s Nick:

Orange Tree- he grew up in FL

The whole father story with the $100 paycheck= he wrote this in his book

“Toxic” parts of his past= he does have a very toxic relationship with his family (his parents were unhappy and him/his siblings didn’t really get along, i.e. his public feud with his famous brother Aaron Carter)

The 5 on the door= 5 Carter siblings including Nick

3. The Whatchamacallit

Performance: This time he performed “Money Maker” by Ludacris and Pharrell Williams and honestly he got moves but he is the weakest vocal wise, he reminds me of Frog from last season but not as strong of a rapper. For sure, he isn’t a pro rapper, but I do still think he is an athlete

As for my guess, I changed my answer and this time I am gonna go with another athlete...

Lonzo Ball

Ok so I changed my guess due to a YouTube comment telling me to watch his rap battle with T-Pain, and guys if you hear that, they sound very very similar.... but I am also convinced due to the clues:

3 Bees 🐝 = BBB aka the Big Baller Brand, his family’s brand

His mom being in bad shape= she suffered a stroke in 2017 which is right when he was drafted for the Lakers which explains the whole I was at the height of my career until I got the call thing

Childhood clue: book “hairy tales of the whatcha dam by Doodad doohickey” = idk this tbh, there are no books by him or his family maybe it’s because his family and him own a business together and are super close?

4. The Seahorse

Performance: OMG her performance of “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion was the best performance of the night! I was shook, she is amazing! I mean I knew she was amazing, but I didn’t expect that level of amazingness wow she’s so good. Bet anything that a woman is going to win The Masked Singer again this season because the females are the strongest, and the only people leaving so far have been male.

I am certainly positive that she is former American Idol contestant:

Tori Kelly

Ok so the clues are very telling:

9pm clocks and the fail stamp= she lost the 9th season of American Idol during the Hollywood round and Simon ripped her a new one like damn he was super harsh on her I remember that

I posted up in my room= probably a reference to her YouTube covers

Smile with slash= her song unbreakable smile

Season 4 of The Masked Singer is here! Time to rate some (16 to be specific) costumes...

Hello my fellow Masked Singer fans! Guess what’s back, back, back, back again! I am back back back, to recap The Masked Singer, woohoo! Season 4 is here and premieres on September 23rd, in 9 days from when I am writing this! Last night, they did a little sneak peak Sunday revealing the first clue for all the costumes (and they have finished revealing the costumes after 2 weeks of doing so on socials). 

So, let’s rate some masks and make some initial guesses/perceptions of who I think it could be (this will be more fun so I could document how right or wrong I am from looking at costumes): 

SO INTRODUCING THE SEASON 4 LINE UP OF MASKS *INSERT FANFARE HERE* 

1. Giraffe 🦒

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 9/10 (This is really cute and dapper of a mask I love it, it gives me Hamilton/Shakespeare vibes, I really want it to be a Hamilton actor) 

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Male due to the voice/costume

The costume itself is 8 foot tall so it has to be someone pretty tall, over 6 feet for sure 

1st clue: shares something in common with a giant

As for guesses, I am thinking he’s an actor even tho he is super tall like an athlete, but I don’t really think athletes would wear this kind of costume, but who knows? I’ve been surprised too many times by this show. 

2. Popcorn 🍿

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 10/10 (This is the cutest costume, I think it’s my favorite of them all, I absolutely adore it, I would wear it like how adorable) 

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Female due to the voice/costume

1st clue: "Mirror Mirror” reference and a perfume on a table 

As for guesses, I am thinking she’s Julia Roberts, since she was the evil queen in the movie Mirror Mirror and in a Lancome Perfume Ad but I haven’t heard her sing so I can’t be too sure 

3.  Dragon 🐲

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 8/10 (Pretty sick costume ngl but the head is a bit scary looking, it looks angry yikes)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Male due to the voice/costume

1st clue: look into stocks and bonds to find out identity 

As for guesses, I really really want it to be Jack Black... but I feel like I say that a lot, a girl can only hope, this is legit a perfect show for him. 

4. Snow Owls 🦉

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 10/10 (It is so majestic, and THERE’S 2 OF THEM OMG. A. FREAKING. DUO.) 

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

A pair of one male and one female based on body types and costume differences 

I am assuming either a brother and a sister or a couple

1st clue: they are tied in the talent department 

As for guesses, I am thinking the brother-sister route and with that clue, Derek and Julianne Hough... because they are both talented dancers so tied in the talent department, get it? If you wanna go the couple route, maybe Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively? 

5. Sun 🌞

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 9/10 (This is really cute and pretty, I love it from the neck down... the mask itself is kinda upside down and a bit weird to look at)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Female due to the costume

Something tells me that it’s a legendary singer 

1st clue: shines like a torch even in freezing winter 

As for guesses, I am thinking she has to be a legend, like maybe Jennifer Hudson, Adele, Christina Aguilera, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, etc. 

6. Mushroom 

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 10/10 (This is really cute, kinda gives me ET meets Super Mario Bros mushroom vibes)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Can’t tell the gender, this one’s confusing

1st clue: has many hats 

As for guesses, I honestly am not sure

7. Jellyfish 🦑

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 9/10 (This is really cute and dapper of a mask I love it, it gives me Hamilton/Shakespeare vibes, I really want it to be a Hamilton actor)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Female due to the costume

1st clue: warm and glowing fur with water

As for guesses, I am thinking she’s probably either a model or a YouTuber idk tho... 

8. Crocodile 🐊

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 8/10 (I like the outfit and sparkles and all but the color is a bit much tbh )

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Maybe a gay male 

1st clue: Tik Tak Toe is important apparently

As for guesses, I am thinking he’s Adam Rippon, because there was announced an olympic athlete and this seems like something he’ll wear.

9. Gremlin

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 10/10 (It’s so cute and fluffy I love it) 

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

I think it’s a guy but I have no clue

1st clue: can thrive when the temperature is 66.5 degrees 

Idk what that means so I am so confused as to who it could be.

10. Squiggly Monster 

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 5/10 (So many eyes and arms it freaks me out)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Probably a tall male, gives me thingamajig’s height vibes

1st clue: known to have many hands to latch on to 

As for guesses, I am thinking he’s an athlete or someone who has a lot of stuff, like a Shaq or something like that

11. Lips 👄

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 6/10 (It’s kinda weird looking idk how to feel) 

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

I think it’s a female but idk ab the rest

1st clue: dishes go deep

I have no idea who she is tbh 

12. Whatchamacallit 

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 4/10 (That one eye freaks me out, it kinda looks like cousin It)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Idk the gender this is so confusing

1st clue: magical start (cards)

As for guesses, I am thinking it’s a magician, most likely a male... I am thinking it’s that guy who hosted Cupcake Wars whose also a magician 

13. Broccoli 🥦

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 6/10 (Meh not a fan, it looks super weird)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Male due to the voice/costume

1st clue: lean, mean machine

As for guesses, I am thinking he’s either an athlete (bc of the deep voice) or a guy who really likes weed, like a Seth Rogen or Snoop Dogg... Seth Rogen is my top guess bc it looks like something from that weird movie Sausage Party that he directed

14. Serpent 🐍

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 8/10 (I feel the same ab this as I did with dragon, kinda cool and wow the animatronics but it looks intimidating)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

I think it’s a female but I have no idea

1st clue: 31118 prescription number

As for guesses, I have no clue... not a single one. 

15. Seahorse 

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 9/10 (I like it a lot, the colors are a little bit much but it’s kinda cool in a way)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Female due to the costume

1st clue: “quiet place” to hide

As for guesses, I am thinking maybe it’s an actress, at first I thought Emily Blunt from the movie “The Quiet Place,” but idk just a hunch 

16. Baby Alien 👽

Mask Rating & Thoughts: 9/10 (It’s a freaking puppet, how crazy and insane)

Initial Guesses/Assumptions/Clues:

Idk who it could be gender wise

1st clue: a 6 in the stars 

As for guesses, I am thinking it's a famous puppeteer like Darci Lynne or Jeff Dunham
