I'm bored again, so i decided to raid my simbin and start another BACC. Will I keep this going? Who can say at this point...I have a shocking track record.

Walden BACC

Louis woke up late, hungover and dejected to discover that the previous night's disastrous outing had not, in fact, been erased from his memories.

After having a big greasy breakfast and plenty of water, he sought a comforting hug from Snaggles, the ancient family cat.

Snaggles was even older than Louis - and he knew that he had his uncle Julius to thank for her longevity. At one time, he'd fed Snaggles some kind of magic rejuvenating kibble that kept the old girl going beyond her natural lifespan.

Louis couldn't imagine her not being there anymore.

But that morning, Snaggles didn't respond to his cuddles with her usual enthusiasm, and only sniffed disinterestedly at the treat he waved under her nose before resting her head on her paws and closing her eyes.

She didn't open them again.

Sunny, one of Snaggles's kittens, echoed Louis's sobs with her yowls.

idk this time, whoops. I haven't had a sim die in my game except by old age for a while. 🤔

Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

Both? Is that an option? Both. Really, I like aspects of both and so I blend both in my game. Alpha hair and clay hair, maxis match objects and realistic objects, whatever, if it fits in my game I'll use it.

Do you cheat your sims weight?

I used the SimBlender to change some of the models fit states on my last download post; otherwise, no.

Do you move objects?

I move so many objects, baby 😎

Favorite Mod?

My enormous hacks folder makes this hard to answer, lol. I'll shout out Epi's Baby Personality mod, b/c finally I'm getting some sims with more than 0 to 1 nice points born in Middleground again.

It was Pets. Because I've always been an animal lover and it came out right after I started playing.

Hmm, I don't remember what I answered last time I did this one. I think the little half-up ponytail from Seasons.

Favorite life stage?

Is it a cop-out if I say everything besides the infant stage? (Does that one even count? They're basically potatoes.) Playing this hood for so long, I've come to enjoy playing sims through each of their life stages. Toddler and kid are cute; teen stage is fun because I get to explore their personality and interests more, and ofc there's budding romances for sims who are into that; adult stage, I get to build their lives and see what their own family turns out like; and elders in my game usually get to relax and savor things once they retire, and spend a lot of time with their family and friends and hobbies, which can be a nice change of pace.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

Nooooope. I like to watch some simmers, especially speedbuilds (shout out to @kayleigh-83 and @nervosims for their great speedbuild vids!), but no one would enjoy me flitting back and forth between seven different things at once, lmao

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?

Play style or aesthetic style? They've both changed over time. Gameplay wise, I really only stick with Middleground and my rotational play now, whereas I used to start (and abandon) a lot of legacies, tried at least one BACC, just random sims that were fun to play. Aesthetically... hmm, you know, I'm not sure this has changed *that* much. Here's Clara circa 2011:

I use more matte skins now, and the style of clothing I download has probably changed the most, but I could absolutely recreate this pic without downloading anything new, including the CC stuff in the background.

The Candle mod

Picture this, Helsinki, 2009, a young girl of (barely) less than thirty (OK, I might have been watching some Golden Girls lately) opens up her TS3 game and gets all excited when she finds out we finally have candles \o/ But lo and behold how fast her excitement turns to disappointment when she notices that candles are eternal. It was then and there that she swore never to use candles in this game again!

Fast forward 13 years to this young girl of (a bit over) forty. She’s burned out on chickens and making videos and swears she’s done with modding and this damn game. One week later she’s building up her new BACC hood, finds pixelswirlplays BACC videos and likes the idea how sims can only use candles because they don’t have electricity in that hood yet. And thus was born the candle mod.

The idea of this mod is very simple and that is, candles have a lifespan.

The mod can be found in my Download -page. 

This mod comes with three files:

ani_Candle (includes the code and resources) and two candles ani_BaseCandle and Mspoodle_TaperCandle

The candles can be found in Lights → Lights misc.

The lifespan of a candle is random between 6-24 h.

When you put your cursor onto the candle you get a tooltip telling you how many hours your candle still has life left.

When the candle is burned out you cannot turn it on again.

Before we go any further please say a huge thanks to the super talented @mspoodle1 who made us the candle making pot, the taper candle and a huge candle related collection she will be releasing soon <3

This mod also comes with the option to make candles by clicking on any stove and selecting Make Candles. There are two ways to make candles. Either using bee wax (1 wax = 1 new candle), or reusing old (burned out) candles (2 old candles = 1 new candle). The ingredients need to be in your sims inventory to be used for making candles.

You can turn any custom candle into this modded one buy changing the OBJK of the custom candle into Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.ani_Candle.CustomCandle

But.. if you want to make custom candles through this mod then you need to do some config editing.

Inside ani_Candle there is a config file called CandleConfig

To add a new candle into candle making add a new <Candle> section and look at your custom candles OBJD files OBJKIndex value. We care only about the two final batches of numbers.

The first part of the object tag will always be 319e4f1d. Then you copy paste (without the 0x in the beginning), the two other values.

I for example have turned all the TSM candles from this download into candles I can use with this mod by first changing the OBJK of the object and then adding the OBJKIndex into the config.

If you decided to delete the base candles that comes with this mod remember to also remove it from the config.

Things to note

1. Making candles is not a skill. It’s just something for your sims to do to create new candles.

2. Regardless do you make 1 candle or 500 the time a sim spends in front of a stove is the same 10 minutes.

3. Calculating a candle’s life span is not high math. So basically if your candle has 1h left, you turn you candle on, let it burn for 59 minutes and then turn it off, the next time you turn the candle on you still have 1 hour. So basically a frugal sim (or simmer) can spend their whole life burning the same candle if they so wish.

4. Turning candles on/off is still an Instant interaction you do as the player.

5. The idle animations I use when sims are making candles are mostly from the base game (I think) except for one that is vampire related. If you don’t have LN the sim will probably just stand still when the vampire animation is running.

But ani wait! What about lanterns? They don’t use electricity either.

Yes you are right. That is why I also created the ani_oil -mod.

This mod comes with four files: ani_oil (code and resources), ani_OilBarrel and two lanterns (wall and table).

The idea of this mod is very simple. You buy an oil barrel from vehicles → misc (costs 75§). A new barrel has 10 units of oil.

Click on a lantern and fill it up (1 unit of oil = 24h of light). The sim will then walk as close as they can to the lamp and fill it up.

To turn any custom lantern to use oil just change the OBJK of the custom object to point to Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.ani_Oil.OilLamp

Things to note

1. This mod requires pets because I use the (Make pet young again potion) -animations to fill the oil lamp.

2. Just like with the candle if you have 1h left of oil, and you burn the lamp for 59 minutes, then turn it off. When you turn it on you still have 1h left.

3. The way EA made lamps was so that you can control all lamps from one lamp. So if you click on a normal lamp and select (turn on all lights in this room/lot – or autolights/blacklights) this will effect the oil lamps as well. So they will turn on/off without using oil. So if you accidentially turn on all lights, just turn off the oil lamps and you should be fine. To keep this mod simple, I decided not to overwrite all light interaction the game has.

If you decide to use custom objects for either candle or lamps please make the change through editing the package and not the The Transmogrifier -mod. I have had some weird bugs happening to some people with my mods that I cannot reproduce and then it has turned out that they used the Transmogrifier mod to change a custom object to point to my code. I think the  Transmogrifier works great with objects that are straight forward but not so great with objects that save information in them (like most my mods do to keep track of things).

I think that is all I have for today.

Just like with any mod use it at your own risk and make a backup before using.

I’ll shall now retreat back to the shadows and my BACC -hood and resurface again when it’s time to dig up for some oil.

I love your BACC so much I obsessively check your Tumblr to see when you've posted a new part of the story!

I started playing my own as well and was wondering how you do your rotations? Like settings and such. Also, how did you unlock Tarzan's store? Do you count it as a sim owned business even if it is just from the sales table?

Hey! Thank you so much, I'm so happy you're enjoying my content and finding inspo for your own gameplay!

I do 4-day rotations, which equals to one sim year. My lifespan is as such, if you want to know how I calculate that.

I have Neighborhood Stories completely disabled.

I have aging off and keep track of my sims' ages in my spreadsheet so I know what day to age them up on.

I have pregnancies paused for unplayed sims so if my sim gets pregnant when she's not an active sim then it won't progress until I'm playing her again.

Otherwise, I don't think I have any settings that impact my gameplay too much. Hope that helps!

As for your next question, Tarzan isn't just selling from a sales table, he has a cash register and everything. So yes I do count it as a sim-owned business. Same with Snow. She has a lot and a cash register, I just used the sales table for ~ aesthetics. But it's all legit!

The story so far, part five...

Sam and Pete were submitted to be the perfect troublemakers for the save, and oh boy were they good at it. Pete was getting around with everyone, to a point where Deanna didn't know whether he was the father of her child or if it was Emil, and Aderyn couldn't keep herself off him even though she had already married his twin brother.

Then Aderyn won the FREAKING lottery. The only time one of my sims has ever won the lottery in my entire time playing this game.

Deanna gave birth to twin girls, Journey and Jade Norwood, who turned out to be Emil's daughters, rather than Pete's. Which is good, because Deanna and Emil got married the next day.

Then we had our very first child born to the BACC age up to young adult.

Then Medousa completed her aspiration, and I used it as a joker combined with a CAS point to bring in 4 new submitted sims; Dylan Collins, Audry Hicks, Chad Upton, and Caeley Flynn.

Kerria and Thom had another set of multiples, baby girls Viola and Lavender Gleeman!

Shortly after the birth of the toddlers, Thom became our first elder. Guess the stress of sneaking around with Montana behind his wife's back aged him prematurely.

And then, Montana bought herself a little general store in Del Sol Valley, and hired Marjorie as the retail worker!

Has anyone ever dreamt about House? Of course people have. But have you had your entire night filled with dreams about House?

I dreamt that I was one of his fellows or whatever, and he was in a really weird ass good mood. Singing and stuff? Know what my brain did? Make him sing the songs of Hugh's albums. Then he began to serenade me. Did I mention that this took place in a supermarket? We had to take samples because of a case. Thirteen was my bestie ✌🏻 and she dragged me away from him. OK, cool, she atacc, she protecc, but most importantly, she has my bacc. 🫂

At some point I kissed House? And he was super into it 💀 But then I was grabbed by the patient's mother and got choked. 🥲

AND THEN I WENT TO HOUSE'S APARTMENT TO APOLOGISE FOR THAT!?!? BITCH WAT.

So we began to WALK BACK TO THE HOSPITAL? HOUSE WE'RE BOTH CRIPPLES, LETS GRAB YOUR CAR OR WILSON’S IDK? Anyway, he wanted me to touch his leeks, and I thought it was an euphemism for something, but no. They were real leeks. So I did the most logical thing and began to imitate Hatsune Miku. I'm not even a big fan irl 😃 But dream House? Oh yeah, he was digging Vocaloid. Said it was underrated music.

ANYWAY. I woke up when I began to interrogate him about his music taste. As one does. I also called him a mfer quite a lot. I don't even use that word irl?

10/10 would dream again.

Hi! I'm thoroughly enamoured with your little fantasy world (as I'm sure you already know!), and I was hoping to learn a little bit more about Cambremon lore. I noticed that a lot of your characters (e.g. Ren, Lef & Inna, etc.) have these bright, captivating green eyes. Is there a deeper meaning behind it, e.g. is it a trait only possessed by mages? Members of the extended Cambremon family? Thank you in advance! 😊

Hi @esotheria-sims! Thank you so much for your kindness, I'm a little star-struck, because I'm such a huge fan of your BACC!

Yes, my plan was that magic has a genetic component, and for an easy way to see if a Sim had the potential to develop magic, I thought it could be handy to have some special eye colors (plus a good excuse to use gorgeous cc hehe). For eyes in general, I use @furbyq-sims's edit of mouseyblue's lucky mix eyes. And for mages in particular, I use the 'dragon egg' recolors (furbyq's preview pic):

Ezber had the bright green eyes, which most Cambremon spawns seem to have inherited:

Ezber's first wife, Nasbrin, (who hasn't really appeared, because I wasn't really taking pictures when I started Cambremon, oops) had nice purple eyes- Edvin had them too, and so does his daughter:

Andra also has 'dragon egg' eyes but they're a deep bordeaux tint, so not very noticeable- I think her son Carcic has those as well. My reason behind Andra having this eye color was that Andra, who looks nothing like Ezber, was actually the result of one of Nasbrin's affairs. Ezber suspected this from early on, and had zero qualms sending her off to the bloodthirsty Dantuzine:

Then you have the Dantuzine, who had cyan eyes- so does Iniga, Ezber's second wife. The reasoning was that Iniga was a distant cousin of the Dantuzine, and was actually chosen by Ezber because she had a potential for magic, even though she never became a Witch. Ferenia also has them, because she's actually Dantuzine senior's bastard, conceived during one of his 'diplomatic trips' to Cambremon:

And lastly, there are the 'orange' eyes- we haven't seen the Aramia clan much (once again, I don't have many pictures of my earlier days of playing Cambremon), but Ansyl Aramia, Edvin's missing ex-wife, has them. So do Kadja and her mother Eviya. To be honest, I just thought orange eyes looked nice on them, but let's assume they have some sort of distant ancestry with the Aramia hehe:

Yes, I play a BACC-ish game once again. Emilee and Rosalie have maxed out their "main" skills already and the game runs smoothly. They have access to a very simple community space where Emilee can turn all those bathtubs she crafted into bits and pieces for her fabrication needs. I've also put a computer inside the community space after unlocking electricity. I think it's enough for them to share a community computer for now. They're both technophobes anyways.

Round 2 - Summer 1 - The Shaw Family

ROS for the Shaws was exciting - although they don't have a teen yet to hold a sleepover for the minor event, their major event was winning §100,000 on the lottery! That's going to be an interesting injection of funds this early on in the BACC!

The round began with a heavily-pregnant Janelle groaning in pain as she carefully knelt down and tried to get little Kimberly to use the potty. Unfortunately, Kim was having none of it. She'd soiled herself overnight and all she wanted was for her mama to change her nappy.

Groaning again (her poor knees!), Janelle attempted to stand back up and pick her toddler up without keeling over. It was useless. "Henry! Can you come up here and change Kimmy please? I can't bend down to pick her up!"

you are kinda blowing my mind with this Roman names question though, I’m not going to lie. I can say with confidence Lydia’s name came from googling “names like Octavia” but tbh I have no memory of picking Octavia’s name. I’m guessing I wanted something a bit old-fashioned / slightly granny sounding but not too cutesy. it's also equally possible she’s named after Octavia E Butler!

what’s wild is that accidental 'Roman ruler' naming really does kind of fit her story, even though the ideals of this save are (or aspire to be) about as far as one can get from ancient republics and empire building. 😁

her story, in my mind (and showing up in scenes every now and again), is that she has always had the empathy and pragmatic wisdom to be a co-founder of this against-all-odds collectivist community banding together and slowly rebuilding society, but that she just needed someone she can trust to bring both the vision for what they could build together and the patience to nudge her towards expanding her bubble from just family and just survival to a bigger group and greater vision.

to put it another way she’s a sim who probably would be very happy to be in a legacy save advancing in her career and having one kid to continue into the next generation but oops she’s in my BACC at the end of the world instead 😁

so does the name fit her story, or does her story follow her name? and is me letting the two of them get together when Octavia's daughter already has the title of third founder actually a step in the wrong direction????? 😳

🐬 Favorite sims challenge?

Do ROS events count? :D That's probably the only one I really do. The only challenge I have done is the Nickel and Dimed Challenge. But I enjoy reading other simmers' challenges, like BACC or ISBI or a simple Legacy. :3

I'm into spring 🌷, the flowers are blooming again, your Sims can plant, and the ponds are ice-free again :3

Well, since I'm not that into premade townies, I can't really answer that question…. maybe Kaylynn Langerak? Since she's the only one I've interacted with. xD

❣️ Do you talk about the sims with any of your friends/family members in real life?

My boyfriend is usually the only person who knows about all the drama in my game or in the Sims community. But I don't really talk about it with other people. My friends know I'm a Sims nerd and we joke about it. When I'm out with my friends and I drink too much, I can't stop talking about it. *lol

Everyone made it into their carpool or school bus the next morning. Melvin had another day off, so he spent the day at home mooching about again. The fridge is nearly empty now - thanks Melvin! 🙄

When Annabelle got home she made another plate of grilled cheese sandwiches and called everyone to the meal. Crispin put on a little weight around his middle - cute!

Spring came to an end that night so I'll leave the ISBI challenge there for a little while. I appreciate that it's slow going (I'm way more focused on my BACC right now) but I like having something I can come back to every so often.

Plus, it's way more stressful to play the ISBI because I'm constantly worrying how everyone is doing without my control support so I can't play it too often or I wouldn't have fun! Sorry to anyone who wants to see this family grow more quickly!

We'll head back to my BACC now for Round 9 and a new family!
