“Please look at me” Jake’s hand hovered over your chin, he was hesitant to lay a finger on you not wanting to make you feel less comfort

When you swallowed and looked up to face Jake, you felt yourself fall into the abyss of love. You knew you wouldn’t be able to stay strong if you saw him so up close to you.

Jake gave you a quick smile, the same damn smile that made you weak in your heart for him.

“I’m going to be honest with you from the very beginning, I never meant for this ever happen”

“You’re right, I first talked to you as part of the bet. It was stupid one I made with the others, we and especially I didn’t expect for the bet to go beyond more than just a bet”

You didn’t notice how badly you were crying as you heard his words. You felt a slight anger but mostly relief knowing the relationship began because Jake truly fell in love with you. Even if the reason why you two began to talk was because of a bet, the rest of it was because of the love you had for one another.

Jake himself didn’t even realize he also had tears falling down his face. His hand hesitantly went to cup your cheek and wipe your tears away.

“I always hated to see you cry” Jake muttered, his thumb creasing your cheek, his touch was soft afraid if he held you hard, he would lose you

“You’re so stupid Jake” You chuckled against the tears to which he mimicked, you and Jake were in a chuckling mess

“I’m only stupid for you” Your lips curved up in a smile as you heard his words, he knew how to melt your heart

“I love you too Jake” It was rare for you to be the one that initiates those words, most of the time it was Jake but whenever you did say it, he always savored it

Jake felt his heart soar through cloud nine, he felt as if he fell in love with you all over again. He smiled brightly as he softly wrapped his arms around you in a hug.

“Do you have my ring?” You asked in the hug and Jake thought you would never asked, when he pulled away from the hug, he dug into his pocket and he pulled out the promise ring

“Will you let me do the honor putting it on you again?” Jake kneeled only one knee as he held the ring between his fingers, you giggled at his words, your hands running through his hair to smooth it out

“You’ll be the only one I’ll ever allow” You offered hand to which Jake softly grasped, placing the promise ring back on your finger where it was meant to be all along

The way you and Jake looked at each other as he rose from his kneel before he placed a kiss onto your cheek, you smiled warmly at his action.

The two of you were still stupidly in love with each other, and to no doubt would that ever fade away.

you look up from your seat to see your boyfriend, jake holding a $100 bill between his index and middle fingers. he sent you a wink which already made you blush like crazy but then you slowly processed the words.

what?

“what?” your expression dropped. you looked at jake, waiting for a response for what he meant.

“i said,” he planted his two hands in front of his desk, staring down at you with his beautiful eyes of his. you stared back with nothing but confusion in your eyes.

“thanks for letting me have $100 sweet cheeks.” jake’s lips curved up. he slowly leaned towards your cheeks, pecking them before proudly looking down at his cash.

that little nickname he gave you made your hearts do back flips as usual.

you stood still before replying, “what do you mean? you used me?”

you’ve liked jake ever since he was in the school’s soccer team since sophomore year. he’s popular for his smartness, his godly visuals, his amazing personality of his that steals the hearts of girls, and his talents.

your introverted personality of yours didn’t dare to make a move on jake. you were undoubtedly shy and didn’t like social interaction very much. all of the girls were in line to ask him out and directly confess their love to him, but you didn’t. you weren’t in line, you were just observing him from the side, mentally noting what he likes, didn’t like, what topics he likes to talk about and many more.

the only proof that you like him was through a little post it note you had on your desk before leaving to go to cafeteria.

at first you didn’t question it as to why he randomly asked you out.

you remember that day, you were blushing like crazy, heart almost ripping out of your rib cage, and you had all sorts of scenarios and activities both you and jake can do because both of you are in a relationship.

“yeah.” your thoughts were interrupted when jake responded with a heartless tone. “i admit that you were cute when you bought me gifts, but either than that,

i’ve never liked you.” his tone was monotonous.

is that why i reminded him of my birthday? is that why i reminded him of our monthsavrie? when my classes end? is that why i was the first to everything? good morning texts?

thinking about your past memories where you felt the most happy with jake,

was all just an act. just for the damn $100 dollars.

jake being the first one to hold your hand whenever both of you met, even if it’s a minute in the hallways or meeting after school ended, him being the first to notice you shivering and toss you his hoodie even if he was cold, him volunteering to help you study your subjects even if it’s 2am, him wiping your lips with his soft fingers from eating ice cream, him listening to your rants and sobs whenever your parents fight late at night, and always looking at you with nothing but love and admiration you believed,

all an act?

you lowered your head, trying to contain your proper breathing and trying not let your tears fall down. you exhaled, closing your eyes.

“who asked you?”

jake’s face slightly clenched when seeing your eyes filled with rage yet tears threatening to spill out. “who asked you for the bet?” you asked once again but with a firm tone. you didn’t break eye contact. you were thinking of his friends he always hung out with, park sunghoon, yang jungwon, lee heeseung, and many more but you felt like these people - your best friends as well - would never hurt you like that.

instead of being sad and running away, you’re staring at your ex boyfriend with bitterness. the loving stare you’ve had towards jake was rather replaced as if he’s your enemy. yeah, you’ve been backstabbed.

“does it matter?” jake tilted his head, shrugging it off. “what matters is i got my money.” he flicked his bill right in front of your face, his tongue peaking when he mockingly smiled at you.

you glanced at the dollar and then back at jake.

“did i mean nothing to you?” you asked, your thoughts suddenly spilling from your lips. “was our relationship nothing to you?” a tear spilled out of your eyes. seconds later, multiple of them were easily sliding down your cheeks.

you stood up from your seat, looking directly into jake’s emotionless eyes. “did you have fun playing with my feelings? did you enjoy taking my likeness towards you as an advantage? were your friends having fun hyping us up whenever we were around them? did you at least have some fucking sympathy for me!?”

after screaming, you looked down. you were going crazy. literally.

“god, y/n calm down. you’re embarrassing me, lower your volume.” jake crinkled his nose, eyes wandering around to see if there was anyone near the both of you.

despite not looking at him, you can hear the annoyance in his tone and the rolling of his eyes whenever you guys argue. he would call you “overdramatic.”

“fine.” you gulped before looking at him. you imagined yourself as a crying mess. it’s like every argument you had, jake would not cry, but you were.

you had to contain yourself to not let your emotions overwhelm you, but it’s hard right now.

you just got used for money.

“i hope that $100 dollar bill reminds you how much of a shitty person you are.” you grabbed your book bag and ran for your life.

out of that suffocating room.

Standing up you ran towards him and gave him a tight hug, as a habit you kissed him on the cheek but it was totally platonic. Right on that moment Heeseung entered the room and saw that unfolding in front of him. He waited for you to stop talking and once you went back to your seat he wasted no time in grabbing your hand and dragging you with him. Entering his bedroom he locked the door and threw daggers at your way. Stumbling back you looked at Heeseung nervously. "Hee...what's wrong? Why are you so angry?" You ask in a quiet voice. Hearing you say that Heeseung took big steps towards you and grabbed your chin harshly "Who said you could kiss Jake on the cheek?" He said angrily. Trying not to anger him you spoke nervously "It was just a kiss on the cheek. It was totally platonic I swear!" Hearing your reassurance Heeseung took a deep breath in and closed his eyes before speaking again. "I just love you so much Y/N. "What will you give me in return if I help you cook this dish?" Jake heard Jay's voice when he entered the hallway which lead to the kitchen. Stopping on his track he listened to the conversation. He heard Y/N ask. He could not believe that Y/N was considering his request. "Yes. It's just a kiss on the cheek. Jake should not have problem with that." "Okay.." the moment he heard that leaving Y/N's lips he entered the kitchen only to see Y/N kissing jay on the cheeks. Running towards them he pulled Y/N away harshly and glared at Jay. "Riki! You did so great on the stage today! I am so proud of you..!" You said to Riki as you ran towards him and gave him a tight hug. Before breaking the hug you gave him light peck on his cheek and ruffled his hair. Diverting your attention back to Sunghoon you locked your arms with his and left the venue. "Don't you feel proud of Riki when you see him performing on stage at such a young age?" You asked Sunghoon but got no reply in return. Turning to face him you saw him walking quietly while keeping his head down. Holding his hand you stopped him from walking any further and asked "What's wrong? Why are you so quiet?" You ask softly. You noticed how Sunghoon rolled his eyes and spoke up "Why did you hug him? Not only that you even kissed him on the cheek!" You flinched when he shouted the last word. "Hoon I only look at Riki as my younger brother. You don't have to get so worked up on such a small thing.." you trailed off. Hearing your answer Sunghoon scoffed and continued walking. "Why are you always acting like this.." hearing you say that Sunghoon abruptly stopped on his tracks and faced you again. "I just don't like it when you kiss other members cheek or even hug them. I..just don't.." you shook your head at his words and smiled at him "You really don't have to worry Hoon. I only like you.."

"Wait Sunghoon. No don't leave my hand! I will fall down!" Jay heard you scream from where he was sitting. He, you and sunghoon came to the ice rink today. You wanted to learn how to ice skate and Sunghoon offered to help you. It was going very well. After awhile you and Sunghoon started walking towards Jay. "Why do you want a kiss on your cheek?" Jay heard you ask that to Sunghoon with a laugh, "Can't you do that just for me? I thought I was your friend!" Sunghoon said with a smile. Jay thought that you would just refuse but when you kissed Sunghoon on the cheek jay was not only shocked but he was also angry at you for kissing sunghoon and at sunghoon for making such request. Standing up jay pulled you away from sunghoon and kept his hand on your lower back "Sunghoon it looks like we both need to leave. I have planned something for the two of us. See you later.." before Sunghoon could even reply Jay immediately took of from there with you. Dragging you with him to his car jay pushed you in and started driving "That was so rude Jay. Where are we even going?" You say in slight panic "Who said you could kiss Sunghoon on the cheek?" Jay asked quietly making you look at him for a slight second before looking away "What do you mean? It was just a kiss." You screamed in panic when Jay hit on the breaks suddenly. Getting in your face Jay slowly said "Never. Kiss another man who is not me ever again, understand?" Too scared to say anything you just nodded your head. Calming down a bit jay started the car again as if nothing happened.

Shim Jake was your next door neighbor, who was captivated by the moment he saw you. The two of you first met when you were moving into the area and he was the only one kind enough to help you with your belongings.

You were going to offer something in return of his efforts for helping you but when you got a call from your boyfriend, you could only save it for another time.

You went into your new place after bidding goodbye to your new neighbor as your boyfriend was on the line, talking about his day. You sighed and listened to him, as you could feel exhaustion take over.

When you went into your place, Jake had to take a deep breath to try and calm his racing heart. He didn’t know why he was feeling this way when he just met you not never a few hours ago.

Plus, you had a boyfriend, there was nothing he was going to do nor try. He respected the relationship so all he could only hope for was any possible friendship between the two of you.

You knocked on your next door neighbor’s door and not a moment later, you could see him opening the door with a smile on his face.

“What’s up neighbor?”

“You and your corny nicknames” You laughed before handing him the mail that mixed up with yours

“Again?” He asked looking at the mail before back at you who only shrugged your shoulder, this was a frequent occurrence between the two of you

Either one of you will have the other’s mail ending up having to go next door. Which Jake didn’t mind, he liked the little moments the two of you had.

“Oh by the way, do you have super glue?” You raised an eyebrow at his question and he opened his door wide enough for you to see the lego pieces scattered on the table

“Last time my dog visited me, she knocked over my favorite lego set and I couldn’t find half off the pieces till this day”

“I still find some scattered around my place by accidentally stepping on them and I will like to prevent the bruising from happening any longer” You tried to hold back your laughter by covering your mouth with your hand but to no vail as you began to chuckle loudly

Jake let you finish your laughing session to his demise until you calmed down and looked at him again, a bright smile still on your face.

“Yeah I think I have some. I’ll go check” He nodded at your words as you went back to your place, he closed the door and anticipated for your return

Jake found himself smiling as your smile played through his mind. But he quickly shook himself out of the daze when he remember you’re in a relationship.

Was it a happy one? He and no one else would say so, but you were still “happily” together with him, so no one dared to say anything.

There was times where Jake would come home late at night from an outing with his friends to practically hearing the arguments you had with your boyfriend.

When he was opening his door, he could hear the slamming of the door next to him and he could see your boyfriend angrily walking away from your place.

Every time that happened, he always wanted to check up on you but restrained himself from doing so. But the one time he caved in, he was walking his dog (who was visiting him for the week).

He saw you leave your boyfriend’s car and closing the door before rushing to your door and walking inside. He was going to leave when something gnawed at him to check up on you.

So he went over to your place and softly knocked on your door. His dog happily sitting by his side, anticipating your answer. When you excitedly opened your door, you believed it to be your boyfriend but the shown disappointment on your face when you saw Jake.

“Sorry, were you expecting someone?” Jake played dumb, he knew why you had disappointed expression, you had thought he was your boyfriend coming back

“No uhm sorry, what happened Jake?” You cleared your throat, oblivious to the dog that was patiently sitting by him

When you heard a bark, you looked to see a smiling dog.

“This is my dog, I thought you would want to say hi”

Jake doesn’t know but that night was set to be one of the worst nights you’ve experienced but he seemed to have made it one of the best nights you’ve had in such a long time.

So, you were grateful for your next door neighbor.

Jake was snapped from his thoughts when you heard the knocking at his door, he opened the door and that’s when he saw you smiling as you held the super glue in your hand.

“Make sure you don’t step on anymore legos” You handed him the glue and he thanked you

“Can’t make any promises, I haven’t found all the pieces yet”

You left to your place with a bright smile on your face, finding your moment with your neighbor amusing. He was truly someone you were thankful for.

Jake groaned when he felt his body shake awake, he groggily opened his eyes to see his three good friends at the foot of his bed. When he fully opened his eyes, he saw them all dressed up for an outing.

“What’s going on?”

“More important question is why aren’t you dressed?” Jay asked as he saw his friend still in his pajamas

“For what?” Sunghoon groaned while Heeseung cheered causing the confusion to settle even more in Jake’s mind

“You made me lose twenty bucks Jake” Sunghoon complained as he forfeited the money he owes after losing the bet

“Did you forget about the party today?” Heeseung pocketed the twenty as he laughed, Jake stared at his friend’s with wide eyes

“I thought that was next week?”

“It is next week, we told you about the party last week” Jay rubbed his temple before ushering him to get ready as quickly as he can, the party would be starting soon

When the four friends arrived at the party, they were greeted with the blaring music, the mesh of bodies with the colorful lights. This was the ordinary party.

Later in the night, Jake doesn’t know how he got separated from his group of friends but he simply doesn’t know where they went.

He sighed as he looked at the time and he realized he would be breaking night all for a party he forgot he was supposed to attend. In all truth, he hadn’t even wanted to come to party today, all he wanted to do was lay in bed and sleep.

But he knew his friends wouldn’t let him stay inside after ignoring plans for outings for the past few weeks. They were bound to hunt him down and drag him out.

The raging headache he was experiencing only became worse and he decided he was going to call it. He took out his phone and texted his friends he was done for the night.

As he tried to push through the crowd to leave the party, he accidentally bumped into a person. He didn’t realize that it was you at first until the two of you locked eyes with each other.

You let out a kind smile which he gladly returned. He felt the flutter in his heart seeing you but his eyes drifted to the tight hold you had on your phone but decided not to question it.

“I didn’t figure you to be the party type” You tried to speak over the music but Jake couldn’t seem to hear you, when you motioned for him to go upstairs he followed in pursuit

When the two of you were finally upstairs and away from the crowd, you could finally feel your ears relax from the tense music.

“I said I didn’t figure you to be the party type” You said in a smooth tone and Jake smiled and shrugged his shoulders

“I guess I can say the same as well. What are you doing here?” Jake turned to face you, only to find you glued to your phone with fingers moving, sending messages to someone

“Boyfriend dragged me out here and he isn’t even responding” You sighed as you tried to scan the dancing crowd from above in search of your boyfriend

You knew he wasn’t the best boyfriend but you still cared for him.

“He left you alone?” Jake tilted his head as he could feel the unease and slight anger build up in his chest, why would you boyfriend even drag you out if he wasn’t going to stay with you

He would never voice out his thought but deep down he knew he could be a better boyfriend.

Yet, before you could respond, you somehow heard a familiar voice from behind. When you turned around, you found your boyfriend with someone else.

Your eyes widen as you stared at him, who was still oblivious to you standing there. Jake noticed your silence and took a glance to you and when he noticed you were looking at something, he turned to witness the same scene.

When your boyfriend finally noticed you, he coughed loudly and put distance between him and the girl. He greeted you happily and tried to make his way to you, but when you backed up from him, Jake could see the disbelief in your boyfriend’s face.

“It’s not what it looks like. You don’t think I actually cheated on you right? Don’t you trust me?” When Jake saw your gaze shift to the ground muttering a quite ‘stop it’ and heard your shuttering trying to keep your composure he lost it

He knows he shouldn’t have involved himself but he wasn’t going to allow your boyfriend to continue this any longer.

“She said stop it” When your boyfriend shifted his gaze from you to Jake, he tried to be intimidating but was met with a colder gaze from Jake

“Who are you to meddle in?” Your boyfriend took a step closer to Jake and you decided to step in before things got worse

“Just stop, it’s over. We’re done, I hope you’re able to be happy” You rolled your teary eyes before going down the stairs, your now ex tried to go after you but Jake stopped him

Your ex shoved Jake’s arm away but he still stood his ground for you.

“Didn’t you hear her? You guys are done” When Jake turned his back to follow after you, he stopped before turning around again to see your ex fuming

“You should’ve been a better boyfriend” Jake scoffed, before going down the stairs to catch up to you

Jake managed to miss you by a second, but he knew you were going to return back home. So he was quick to get into his car and drive back home in hopes of catching you.

And it seemed the universe was on his side as he arrived and rushed over to his place, he saw you entering yours. When you heard the rapid footsteps, you quickly turned your head, having little hopes of it being your boyfriend.

But when you saw a worried Jake, panting heavily, gulping down as he looked at you, you could feel the tears in your eyes well up.

Jake always seemed to catch you at your worst and at your best. Jake took hesitant footsteps in your direction, he didn’t want to overwhelm you in any way. All he wanted was to be there for you if you needed him to be.

“Jake” You voice was soft almost inaudible but Jake could hear it loud and clear, when he stood in front of you, he could see the tears staining your face and he wanted to wipe them away but he knew his boundaries

“You can cry, there’s no shame in it” That seemed to have been the breaking point, as you finally let the tears fall from your eyes

Jake wanted to bring you into his embrace but he didn’t. He know he shouldn’t, he just wanted to show you that you weren’t alone. What he didn’t expect was for you lay your head against him, he froze but when he still heard your crying, he hesitantly hovered his hand to comfort you.

You could feel the awkwardness practically radiating off of Jake and you found yourself chuckling at him. When Jake heard your chuckles, he took a glance to make sure he wasn’t hearing things.

When you pulled away, you wiped your tears trying to place a smile on your face.

“You’re not the best at comforting” You giggled and Jake found himself laughing at your remark

“Do you need anything?” His words were soft and concerning that you didn’t believe he could be so worried about you

“Want to watch a movie?” You wanted to take your mind off the events that happened tonight, and in all honesty, you didn’t want to be alone tonight

So when Jake smiled happily and nodded his head, you felt glad to know he was willing to help you out. Jake was truly very kind and for some reason you realized in that moment, just how many times he’s been kind to you.

You and Jake laughed as you watched a movie on your TV. You and Jake respectively took both ends of the couch while watching the movie. While, he seemed to be so engrossed in the movie, you could feel your eyelids becoming heavy.

From all the crying you’ve done, it was inevitable for the exhaustion to take over. You don’t know when you fell asleep but when a funny scene happened, Jake laughed and turned to you.

When he saw you had fallen asleep, he smiled softly to himself before looking for the remote to turn off the TV. He looked around trying to find any pillows or blanket but when he didn’t find any, he sighed.

Before he left your place, he left one of his shoes to become a door stopper so that he didn’t accidentally shut himself out.

He quickly rushed over to his place and flipped it upside, looking for any spare pillows and blankets he had and when he found some, he jumbled them into his arms and made his way back to your place.

As he managed to get back into your place, your sleeping figure never seemed to falter. He placed the pillow down, and gently rested your head against it. When you shuffled around to find comfort, he waited before draping the blanket over you.

He made sure you were fully covered so that you didn’t become cold in the night. When he saw that you seemed relatively comfortable, he proudly smiled to himself and looked for a paper and pen.

He wrote a little note and left it on your table before walking out your place. He took one glance behind and when he made sure you were sound asleep, he smiled once again before walking out.

Just as he walked out your place, he didn’t notice a puddle on the ground and when he foot stepped in it, he groaned loudly feeling the wetness of it.

He looked to the ground to see his shoe missing from his foot. He closed his eyes and deeply sighed as he realized he left his shoe at your place.

He awkwardly walked back to his place, trying to avoid walking with his wet foot. But even with his wet foot, he didn’t mind it all one bit. He was happy to help you and if he had to walk through many puddles for you, that’s just what he’ll just do.

When you groggily woke up, you could feel the puffiness of your eyes from all the crying you have done. You groaned loudly, feeling the aching headache you, when you looked around you noticed you weren’t in your bed.

You were in your living room and you took notice in the falling blanket. You didn’t recognized this blanket from anywhere, you looked to your surrounding to find a pillow that wasn’t yours either.

You confusedly looked around, remembering the only person that was last here was Jake. When your eyes scanned your place you took notice to the single shoe left in the middle of your place.

You found yourself chuckling realizing Jake must have been that done all of this for you. When you gaze went to in front of you, you saw the note let behind.

You picked up the note and you found yourself chuckling to yourself. You bit your lip slightly to stop the smile from growing anymore than it needs to.

‘Hi! You fell asleep watching the best movie ever (it really wasn’t) but I hope you were able to get a good rest. Take care of yourself, as always I’ll be right next door- from your best neighbor Jake’

Jake’s head shot up when he heard a knock at his door. He was going to ignore it and go back to sleep but when the knocking happened again, he groaned before getting up from his bed.

He grumbled to himself at who can be knocking at his door at this hour. When he opened the door, he was ready to be faced with his annoyed friends but instead you saw you holding the blanket and pillow with his single shoe on top.

You smiled when you saw him and he stared at you with wide eyes. He realized he probably looked like a mess, so he quickly closed the door in your face and rushed to the nearest mirror to fix himself.

He saw how his hair stuck out in every direction and he grumbled before smoothing out his hair, and he saw the bag under his eyes.

You were surprised to see the reaction but you found it amusing. You patiently waited for Jake to finish fixing himself to appear “presentable”. After a few minutes, Jake smoothly opened the door again and pretended to be shocked to see you.

“Oh my god, it’s my favorite neighbor, how are you?” You found yourself laughing and Jake seemed pleased to be the reason behind it

“I came to return your belongings. Thank you so much Jake, for everything yesterday. I really appreciate it” He waved his hands to shoo away your gratitude

“It was my pleasure. I just wanted to make sure you were okay” You nodded your head and handed his belongings back to him

“Also just out of curiosity, why was your shoe left at my place?” You raised an eyebrow and you could Jake nervously gulp, he mumbled something but you couldn’t hear him

“I didn’t want to get locked out” You looked at him confused and he could tell as he sighed

“I went to go grab a blanket and pillow for you but I didn’t want to get locked out so I used my shoe as a door stopper and I seemed to have forgotten it” You held a tight lip to hide back the smile daring to form on your face and Jake noticed that

“You can laugh, it’s okay” You shook your head, showing him that wasn’t the case

“No, it was just really sweet of you. Thank you Jake, one of these days I’ll return the favor” Now Jake could feel his heart pounding against his chest, he was going to fall hard, he just knew it

Two months had went by, you and Jake were only continuing on getting closer with each other. The small interactions becoming longer and you were starting to grow accustomed to his presence.

But, for the past two days, you hadn’t talked to Jake for the daily conversations the two of you had. It wasn’t because you were purposely ignoring him but rather you were mentally preparing yourself to see your ex boyfriend again.

He kept on trying to reaching out for forgiveness, saying he would change but you were fed up. You weren’t going to go back to him, the amount of chances you had give him, you and the relationship were long done.

So, you texted him to finally come and pick up his belongings and that this would be the last time you see each other. He seemed to have been quick because in a mere ten minutes, he was at your door.

Jake on the other hand was preparing to ask you out on a date. It was true, his feelings for you only became stronger with each passing moment and he doesn’t know how much longer he can hold out.

He knows, it may too soon for you and he wasn’t going to rush for a response but for you to be aware of his feelings will be much better than keeping it to himself.

And besides, he’ll wait for you as long as he needs to. You’re worth the wait.

Jake gave a pep talk to himself in the mirror as the bouquet of flowers resting on the table. He sighed deeply and gave himself a pat on his shoulder, he grabbed the bouquet and set out to your place. But right before he could open his door, he heard pounding.

It didn’t sound like it came from his door, when he opened his door, his immediate response was to look to the direction of your place and that’s when he saw your ex boyfriend standing outside your door.

Jake was going to shoo him away from your door but when he saw your door open and welcome in your ex, Jake froze.

His eyes frantically moved away as he stepped back into his place. He sighed deeply before placing the bouquet of flowers back onto the table.

He fiddled with his hair as he took a seat on the couch, he sadly chuckled to himself before shaking his head, he thought he was so stupid for believing he had a chance.

You deserved someone way better than your ex, Jake and practically everyone else knew that. But if he made you happy, Jake will support you a hundred percent no matter what.

But, when an hour had passed, Jake couldn’t handle being at home anymore. He got up from the couch and walked out his front door, and just as he was going to lock his door, your door opened and out walked your ex with an overflowing box with his belongings.

Jake eyes widen in shock as his saw this, he rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn’t seeing things but he realized he was seeing right, he felt a glimpse of hope in his heart.

Jake could hear your ex mumbling apologizes and that’s when he saw you walk out and usher your ex away. You giddily waved goodbye to your ex as your smile fell in annoyance.

Your ex could be seen dragging his feet against the pavement, looking at you hoping to be given some kind of mercy but when he was met with nothing, he continued his moping until he was gone.

You sighed happily before lightly stretching your body, you were going to head back into your place when you noticed Jake watching the scene with his keys in mid air.

Jake noticed your gaze in him and he quickly fixed his posture and placed his keys in his pocket. You smiled lightly and was going to head back in until you heard him call out to you.

“Are you busy?”

“I’d like to you up on that offer of returning the favor”

The sun was soon going to set and you and Jake were still in the car ride. Jake said returning the favor will include you having to accompany him somewhere.

The car ride was a little more awkward than you had anticipated but you brushed past it as being the few days that you haven’t talked to each other.

“Where are we heading?” You wondered, you began to notice the buildings becoming fewer and fewer and you seemed to reaching the meadows of land

“It’s a surprise”

When you finally reached at your destination, it was almost night time. The sun was finally setting as it was beging replaced by the moon and stars, where Jake had brought you, there seemed to have been others as well.

The sunset was stunning in this view that you swore you couldn’t get tired of it. When you turned to face Jake, you saw how the sunlight casted on him creating a beautiful golden hour.

You felt the familiar thump in your heart whenever you were with Jake for the past three weeks and you were quick to clear your throat before facing away from Jake to admire the sunset.

“We aren’t here for the sunset” You heard Jake muttered from behind you, you could only hum afraid if you turned around you would be greeted with something your heart wouldn’t be able to handle

“What are we here for then?”

“We’re going to have to wait a little longer for it to happen. The sunset just seemed to be perfect in the setting today”

There was a silence just for a moment as the two of admired the sunset but you decided not to hold back any longer.

“I’m finally done with my ex” Those words falling from your almost sounded like music to Jake’s ears, he turned to face you who was still admiring the sunset

“Well I’ve been done with him for a while but after today I never have to see him again. I told him to come get his stuff and he thought I was giving him a chance”

“It amused me how simple he thought it would be. I know he wasn’t the best boyfriend but sometimes you just think you found the purest love when in reality it was one of the worst loves ever”

“And once you break off the negative aspects, you can finally get into full view the most lovely positive things in your life” You snuck a glance to Jake when you said those words before looking to the setting sunset

“It’s taken me a while to realize but ever since the break up, I’ve been feeling better. And you, Jake were probably the biggest factor in making me feel better so I don’t know how much I can thank you for that” You finally turned to face Jake and the expression he had made you smile softly

“I don’t know how I can ever repay your efforts” Jake shook his head, he doesn’t know what took over him, he assumed it must have been the setting and the atmosphere between the two of you but Jake felt determined

“Just allowing me to be in your presence is enough for me”

“Uhm, actually I have something to tell you” You ushered Jake to say it, you tried to ignore the desiring thoughts running through your head and the fast pacing of your heart

The sunset had finally set and Jake knew this was it.

“I like you a lot” Before you could say anything to his confession, there were sudden fireworks going off

You looked up to see the colors from the fireworks light up the recently set sky. You were mesmerized for a moment that you didn’t realize the look Jake had set on you and didn’t plan on moving.

When you were brought back from the moment, you looked to Jake to see him holding the fondest smile ever.

“Surprise” Jake’s soft voice rang through your ears and you could feel the warmth coarse through your body as you smiled happily towards Jake

You walked over to Jake and wrapped your arms around him. At first, he was in utter shock. He didn’t know how to respond but when he realize, he should hug back, he did.

He wrapped his arms around you and he swore this was his dream. He’s been waiting to hug you and for you to the be the first one to initiate it was enough to send him into a happiness frenzy.

“I’m glad to hear the feelings are mutual”

“I like you too Jake” Those were the words he’s been wanting to hear for the longest time, he just never knew the time would ever come

“It might take me a while to fully grasp everything but what I do know for a fact is that I like you. I really do” You could feel Jake shaking his head as his grasp only got tighter

“I’ll wait as long as you want me to. You’re worth the wait, you always will be” He could feel the smile from your face and he swore his heart burst in his chest, when the two of you pulled away from the hug you looked to each others eyes

You didn’t realize your eyes were glossy from happiness until Jake wiped the single tear that fell from your eyes. He had the fondest smile ever and he could feel the magnetic pull of you drag him closer to you.

When your lips met his lips half way, it felt like the fireworks that went off in the sky. Jake and you kissed under the fireworks and it was the perfect representation of how both of you felt.

When the two of you pulled away, the smile on your faces were undeniably happy. Jake’s arms never unwrapped as he could only bring you into another hug.

“Take all the time you need, I will wait for you” You nodded against Jake and the happiness you felt was something you haven’t felt in a long time

To know that Jake would patiently wait for you was able to make you feel the comfort and ease rest in your heart.

Jake had made you feel emotions that you hadn’t felt in such a long time. It was nice to feel them again, and it was the best to feel them again because of Jake.

Whilst, Jake felt like he was on top of the world. He has you the person he likes so much in his arms as you feel the same he does. It was like his dreams came true and he couldn’t be any happier.

“I promise to always make you happy so don’t worry”

“Plus I can be a way better boyfriend than him”

that was the unspoken agreement you and jake had when your whole relationship had started. after all, you only had three months together.

your first meeting with jake was straight out of a movie. everything was in the perfect place at the perfect time, and a small part of you wanted to believe that it was fate that brought him to you. you were taking a sunset walk down the beach while the rest of your family had gone out without you. before you knew it, there was a dog running up to you, softly pawing at your legs and barking. when you bent down to pet the collie, you failed to notice her very cute owner running up from behind you.

the very attractive stranger sincerely apologized for letting his dog run off like that, but you assured him it was no problem and continued to pet the dog. he seemed to admire how much layla had taken a liking to you, because after introducing himself as jake, he offered to accompany you on your walk down the beach.

you quickly learned that you were staying at the same hotel, and he told you that he was visiting from australia, but his accent made that pretty obvious already. jake was practically glowing in the sunset, and you'd be lying if you said walking down the beach with him like this didn't make your heart skip a beat.

over the next few weeks, you and jake continued to have little rendezvous together. sneaking out of your hotel rooms late at night, exploring the foreign city together, or simply chilling around each other's hotel rooms. although both of you were thousands of miles from home, you and jake felt more comfortable with each other than you did around anyone else.

by the time you had realized how hard you had truly fallen for him, you told yourself that there was no point in acting on it. you'd be parting ways in less than a month, likely to never see each other again.

so you tried your absolute best to pretend like there was nothing there, but a small part of you still had hope that jake felt the same way.

one night, jake called you a little past midnight, telling you to meet him in the lobby. he took you by the hand and brought you to a rooftop, where you watched fireworks and rested your head on his shoulder.

"i wish we could stay just like this." you whispered.

he hummed in agreement, stroking your hair. "you look so pretty tonight, y/n."

he laughed when he saw how hard you were blushing, and you simply struggled to choke out a response. before you could scold him, telling him not to say things like that, his lips were capturing yours for a deep kiss.

your hands found their way in his hair, and you two kissed for what seemed like hours. "thank you for spending this summer with me, y/n."

you smiled softly before kissing him again, and the two of you walked hand in hand back to the hotel.

the next couple of weeks with jake were perfect. he was wild and carefree, just the kind of thing you needed during the summer. every moment with him was like a dream, between the stolen kisses and the beachside picnics, jake helped you forget about all of the stress of reality back home.

both of you avoided talking about leaving, as jake thought the topic was too sad and serious for how much fun you were having. and though you knew you'd have to talk about it sooner or later, you decided to let him keep having his fun.

with less than a week before your flight home, you and jake went out to watch the fireworks one more time. what you didn't realize, however, was that while you were watching the fireworks, jake couldn't take his eyes off you.

"i'm gonna miss this. i don't wanna go home." you muttered, letting out a deep sigh.

"hey, let's not talk about that right now. just live in the moment, y/n." he replied, but that only made you more upset.

"jake, i leave in 5 days. what's gonna happen to us after we both go home?"

tilting his head slightly, he scoffs at you, as if your question wasn't even valid. "what do you mean? do we have a choice? it sucks y/n but, we're gonna be thousands of miles away."

you frowned. "but don't you feel as strongly about this as i do? i've never felt this way about anyone jake. i don't want us to end. truthfully, i think i'm in love with you, jake"

your words were spilling out on their own, and you watched as jake became speechless.

"i didn't know you felt that strongly, y/n. i like you- like so so much but i have a whole other life back home, you know? i'm not as careless and free as i have been this summer, i just can't afford to be. and long distance is just- so difficult sometimes, and it hardly ever works out."

"i want to try with you, jake. i want this more than anything i've ever wanted." your voice was pleading, almost begging jake to just see things from your point of view.

muttering a string of curses under his breath, jake ran his hands through his hair and let out a deep sigh. "i never intended for things to get this serious between us. in fact- i never intended for things to get serious at all. and believe me y/n there are so many things i wish i could tell you right now, but i think if i say it, i'll pull you into my arms and i won't be able to let go."

you could tell there was more going through jake's mind then he was letting on, but there was no point in asking him about it. he never wanted to show you his vulnerable side, he thought it made him seem weak. you simply nodded in understanding, turning back to the fireworks that were still going off along the city skyline.

"let's just- stay here. we don't have to say anything else." he nodded in agreement, taking your hand and watching the city with you. the two of you sat there long after the fireworks had ended, and you could have sat there much longer if not for the sun starting to rise.

you knew that jake would tell you he felt the same way if he could, and you knew he was trying to act strong despite wanting you more than anything else.

although it was obvious you and jake were never meant to last, something in you was certain that you were meant to meet. you knew that in some, cruel, star-crossed twist of fate, that summer with jake was meant to be.
