Just a little more than five years ago - and just a few short months prior to Jon Stewart taking Congress to task on behalf of the 9-11 first responders - Colorado Senator Michael Bennett took to the floor of his chamber to call out Senator Ted Cruz - and rightfully so! - for Ted's and his party's "crocodile tears" over the plight of the first responders...

This was in the second half of the Trump presidency with a lot of other controversy happening at the same time. Michael details a lot of it in his speech in the video that follows. To recap in advance...

Congress was in the midst of the 2018-2019 shutdown - the longest in its history - which Trump would proudly and repeatedly claim as of his own doing. It also followed the failure, in Republican hands, of a large, drawn out border security package from the previous summer. All of which, again, Senator Bennett points out. And then some!

Why it's important to cross reference "facts"...

My 1960s book on maritime history lays the destruction of the Nemi vessels (Caligula's party barges) at the goose-stepping feet of the retreating Axis forces in the Italian peninsula. Moreover it's posited that it was deliberate and wanton destruction. Which of course I'm all for being angry at the N*zis because like they were the actual worst.

But something didn't quite sit right given I knew Shitler had a thing for hording ancient artifacts so setting fire to a museum didn't seem a sensible action for anyone wanting to impress the bad man with the moustache.

Then later the same day I read a more modern source that's just talking about Caligula in general and it says it was Allied bombing that set the museum alight and that does sound more likely. And then I poke around the internet and discover that most sites all corroborate that stance.

So gotta keep an eye out for propaganda on both sides because the museum was just a casualty of war and proximity to German artillery being bombed not deliberate destruction.

Unlike the unnecessary bombing of Dresden on Churchill's orders
