I'm forcing myself to at least TRY to draw real backgrounds, but sadly, I didn't really listen to the teacher when I was supposed to learn about drawing perspective in environments and now I have to pay for that.

Cars and the Adolescence of Utena
(Spoilers for the Utena movie)

So there's this bit in the Revolutionary Girl Utena movie where the lead character turns into a car. This is a thing that happens and the director is infamous for refusing to explain it beyond "I wanted to turn a girl into a car," but honestly every time I think about it it becomes less and less strange to me. Or at the very least it makes more sense, which is LIKE the same thing?
The movie's big theme is adolescence, and a lot of what goes on is sort of a weird reflection of what adulthood looks like when you're not quite there yet. In this light the use of cars as an ongoing metaphor is simple: when you're a teenager, cars symbolize freedom, the ability to go where you want. You don't have to be stuck in the same place. You can _get away_.
And so Utena becoming a car means that she and Anthy have the ability to leave, and Shiori's gloriously silly admonition that she's not the only one who can do it is, well, a reminder that this freedom isn't unique.
(You could also make some commentary about Utena rusting away being a remark on her feeling stuck and needing Anthy's help to realize her potential, that it's only between the two of them that they find a way out from the place that life has taken them so far: I like this understanding because it emphasizes the idea that if anyone's saving anyone they're both saving each other, which is how I view their relationship.)

Hey!! I was wondering if you can give some links or instructions on how to download and run the Utena game, I was planning on playing it before winter break ends but I can’t seem to find any links that are still working or any files that are still open :/ anyways, hope ur having a good day!
I was able to find an accessible link here. All the instructions for setup and translation are included on the page. It’s the same page I had gotten the game from when I downloaded it, so at the very least, it worked about a year ago. Everything seems to still be working, so I hope that you’ll be able to get the game up and running.
If the link ends up not working for whatever reason, you can always head to the In The Rose Garden homepage, click the “Shoujou Kakumei Utena” forum, then scroll down and select the “English Translation of Utena Game (Itsuka Kakumei Sareru Monogatari)” discussion.
