Though scheduling is what got in the way, I was reminded tonight, that the last time I made it to @tea-ffxiv aka The Shroudrose Tea House I met my Lovely Snowcatte, who became my wife. Here we are thanking the lovely @fair-fae and Val for having been there when we met, and for giving The Snow Catte the chance to perform on their stage tonight for the first time. It was a lot of fun, and it was a very happy memory to be reminded of.

☕️ + Social/Slice of Life RP
This feels like an unpopular opinion sometimes, but honestly, I love social/slice of life/tavern/casual/etc RP. It’s easy pick up random walk-up RP, good for first encounters, helps humanize the characters, and can lead to some unexpected character development and be helpful set-up for more intense RP–or just serve as a fun way to pass the time with some IC banter! It’s also something a lot more tame for newcomers to dip their feet into without feeling as intimidated.I get that people can feel burned out on it. Personally, I’ve stopped actively looking and advertising for social RP for myself, because I’ve found that I have no trouble finding it on a whim, but more plot and action focused scenes can be difficult to come by, so I’d like to focus on finding on those, since I know that the slice of life RP will probably fall into place naturally along the way, and I know where to go looking and who to poke if it doesn’t.But I’ve encountered some people who really can’t stand social RP, and I don’t understand it. Nonstop GOGOGOACTIONDRAMAPLOT seems exhausting OOC and rarely makes sense IC. A couple of the more extreme cases I’ve met always seemed so frustrated with their RP, and I can’t help but imagine that it must be difficult to find people to do that more dynamic RP with or to make those scenes really be meaningful or make sense without taking the time to let your character slow down to meet people and forge bonds with them. I even had someone abruptly leave my FC mid-RP/event a day or two after joining because the first RP event we held in their time as a member was a social RP event (ironically, a meet and greet we’d organized because we’d recently gotten several new members and wanted them to have a chance to meet the others and feel comfortable). So if anyone veers toward one extreme, all I can say is… I can stop and enjoy some RP with someone who only RP’s slice of life, but someone who only wants more intense scenes and events and nothing else, I will probably gladly pass on interacting with because I don’t want to feel put on the spot to either entertain them or face their boredom and annoyance. ;_;(Also semi-related: After that incident with a certain community RP Discord ragging on restaurant/tavern and fighting tournament events, it was pretty funny to see a recent community fellowship poll on what sort of RP events people like and want to see more of with Restaurants/Taverns strongly in the lead)Thanks for the ask!Send ☕️ + an rp topic I will give my honest thoughts and opinions on it

Repercussions II: Wasp’s Nest
Yen’to wandered up to the library with a sense of foreboding. The reason for the meeting was unclear, but with Khan anything was possible. As he entered the library proper, he spied Strega and Khan already present. Damn... thought I would have some moments of peace to prepare for the drunken rambling that is sure to ensue. They engaged in a bit of small talk as they waited, much to Yen’to’s annoyance, but it was not long before the others who saw the posting started filtering in. Annoyance shifted rapidly to surprise at the steadily increasing number of attendees: Alyona, Alaric, Kouronne, Silf, Luka, Ghost, Lalatua, and Ramius. A mixture of new and old employees.... but Alaric does not even work for Lady Faye, does he? How did Khan rope him in?
Tumblr media
The lingering questions were soon cleared up -  Ramius indicated that he was the one that called the meeting rather than Khan. Oh good... maybe this time the briefing will actually be coherent. A strange screen popped out of a device on Ramius’ back, some sort of video feed from one of his drones that apparently captured sight of a suspicious person frequently loitering in the hills around the Shroudrose. Ramius wanted everyone to go out and attempt to find, capture, and interrogate the suspicious target. There were transmissions that potentially linked him to Garleans. I would say this sounds easy enough, but every time I have said that the complete opposite was true. Nothing involving Khan is every that simple.
As they began leaving the Shroudrose grounds, it was not long before Ramius spotted someone suspicious on a path up a nearby hill, leaning against a tree. At his suggestion, they split up to approach from different directions and hopefully catch the person in a pincer. Yen’to took about half of the group while Ramius took the remainder, and upon his signal they approached a visibly panicking miqo’te. He could not be more suspicious even if he was trying...
Tumblr media
The unlucky miqo’te was sweating and fidgety, and cracked under pressure almost immediately. As he was not so gently prodded for answers, some in the group began remarking that they smelled smoke. That is odd... did something spark out in the forest? It is not storming, though. The sounds of bells clanging and shouts from Wood Wailers began filtering in from the south, where smoke was streaming into the sky. What in the... that looks like houses are on fire! Before anyone could figure out exactly what was happening, the twang of bows being drawn nearby forced everyone to take cover. Arrows loosed found their target easily - the poor panicking miqo’te spy. Strega and Alyona attempted to keep him alive while Yen’to and Kouronne returned fire with their gun and bow.  Their targets were dressed like Wood Wailers, complete with wooden masks. Oh no... saboteurs?!
The two saboteurs went down quickly, a bit too dead to question. Ramius began picking up strands of chatter from the wounded spy’s linkshell, prompting him to scan for aether currents with his goggles. I swear, that man has a gadget for every occasion. The linkshell chatter made it clear that they were dealing with Garlean infiltrators. Yen’to barely had time to absorb this information before Ramius pointed them north. The band cautiously made their way forward before pausing at a bend in the path.
Tumblr media
Half a dozen arrows whizzed by, forcing everyone to press up against the hill just before the bend in the path. Yen’to, Ramius, and Kourunne ran out to fire back at the archers, easily cutting the ambush short. Or so they thought. A shout came from the bushes nearby to “cut down the savages”, and more ‘wood wailers’ leapt out, flanking the party and trapping them in the middle of the path - lancers in the rear and more archers in the front. Damn it -- with the actual guards distracted by those fires we are on our own!
The fighting was brief but brutal. Yen’to yelped as an arrow embedded itself into his leg above the knee, avoiding the armored greaves he hoped would have protected him. Buckling down, he managed to level his rifle and return fire, felling his attacker. Most of the others managed far better, and the Garleans soon came to realize that underestimating tea house employees was a surprisingly bad idea. Lalatua used both fire and ice magic to great and terrifying effect, while Luka ended up burning and melting one of the wooden masks into a hapless soldier’s face.
The other Garleans fell one by one, but they managed to also injure Alyona before being defeated. Most of the ambushers were dead, but a few laid wounded and moaning. As with the spy, Alyona called Khan over the linkshell to gather the wounded Garleans. Hmph, I say let them bleed out... but the dead do not give up secrets. Once again, Ramius utilized his goggles to pick up the trail and the group rushed in the direction of the ferry docks. Or all but Yen’to rushed, who could only do a hurried limp at this point.
As they approached the docks, they could see the Garleans’ sloop shrinking in the distance as it sped away. There was only one remaining boat at the docks,  with a goblin skipper drinking away the day nearby. He seemed wary at first of the anxious group, but a bag full of gil changed his tune. He promptly called over his own linkpearl to Khan that he was taking a break and that Khan could go fook himself. Oh gods -- this is Khan’s ship?!
Tumblr media
The little sloop had seen better days, and seemed to be held together by little more than rusty nails, rotting boards, and pure hope. ... Do I also smell liqour? It had a black flag emblazoned with red glasses, reminiscent of the pair worn by Khan. A kobold on deck gave them a happy little wave and nonchalantly returned to swabbing the deck.  This... both makes complete sense and is utterly stupid. At the urging of Lalauta and Strega, Yen’to sat down to take the weight of his injured leg. Strega once again took the opportunity to stab him with a magitek medical device, despite their previous discussion about advance warnings. At the direction of Ramius, the others grabbed what they could to use as oars and employed aero magic in an attempt to catch up with their targets.
‘Their’ ship came within a few dozen yalms of the Garleans before a shout came from behind some rocks in the river, and another boat slipped out and sped in their direction. Seven hells, how many ambushes are we going to stumble into?! The party braced for impact, and the two boats soon collided and locked into place. Belting out war cries, the Garlean boarding party swarmed onto Khan’s floating coffin.
Yen’to had managed to stand by this point, and upon seeing a saber swinging his way he managed to block it with his armored gauntlet, then returned the favor by slamming the butt of his rifle into the man’s head like a club. Alaric had ripped off one of the boards from the deck to use as a makeshift weapon; a vhan below deck looked up through the hole and simply returned to whatever it was doing.  Uh... I hope that bit was not important. Ramius finished off the remaining Garleans with his quick-firing pistol, and managed to free the boats by cutting entangled ropes.
Tumblr media
Upon arriving at shore, they were met with a scene of carnage. Dockworkers and a few Wood Wailers were crumbled on the ground, seriously wounded but not yet dead.  A jumble of tracks led deeper into the woods. Alyona once again used the linkshell to inform Khan that there were wounded that needed tending, but his response was a complaint that it would take a while because someone had stolen his boat. ... Oops? Well, that is what he gets for being sloppy! One of the injured workers confirmed where the Garleans fled, and the group was soon hot on their heels.
Tumblr media
The party caught up to the remaining Garleans soon enough, who were busy at work doing something near a patch of trees. They did not have long to observe the enemy before being spotted, and a Garlean officer called for his troops to form up. They did so with alarming speed and precision, and soon let loose a fusillade of bullets from their gunblades. Thankfully, their aim was not as precise as their formation but a few in Ramius’ group were still hit. Damn it... if I die here I am killing Khan!
The gloves were off now, and no mercy was to be given. Yen’to finally activated his machinist aetherotransformer and spewed a gout of flame from the end of his rifle towards an unfortunate clump of Garleans. The others did not hold back either, letting loose with their fiercest techniques to utterly obliterate their targets in a storm of explosions and fire. I almost feel sorry for the bastards.... almost. As the smoke cleared, it was made apparent what the Garleans had been concerned with - a secret door leading underground.
Tumblr media
Cautiously, the group made their way into the underground store room. It was unlit and barely any light made its way inside. Yen’to’s moon-keeper eyes quickly adjsuted to the darkness, but few of the others were so lucky. Lalatua used some aether to light up her staff, and what it revealed gave everyone pause.
There were numerous desks and cabinets filled with papers, and posters and flyers covered the walls alongside maps. Almost in a stupor, they fanned out to dig through the papers to figure out exactly what they were dealing with. It was worse than suspected. On the largest desk, there was a stack of flyers with names and brief descriptions, many from previous missions with Khan:
Faye Covington, Silf Silverwood, Mocking Bird, Yen’to Tajaan, Elyn Merielle, Mako, Strega, Deccan, Ramius Raske, Khuron Khan.
By the Twelve.... these are signed by tribunus Lucian. He knows so much! How?! Aside from Lucian’s signature, there were directives commenting on multiple phases and local assets. Some of the other posters had vaguely familiar sketches, but were lacking descriptions. Sensing time was of the essence, everyone gathered whatever they could carry and made haste back to the Shroudrose to disseminate the information later and lick their wounds.
All this from one little information gathering mission that went sideways almost a moon ago. If the Garleans do not kill us, Lady Faye just might.

😇 - What was your character’s last good deed?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“We were in a tea house. I think it is called the Shroudrose Tea house..” N’hil said as he rubbed the back of his helmet head and looked off to the side. “My friends had invited me to attend with them. I was more than happy to share in their company.” After some recollection the miqo’te laughed! “I remember the waitress. She’s a lalafell that was wearing a maid outfit. She was kind.” N’hil chuckled faintly. “My friend handed me a menu and I decided upon something called Tranquility. My.. eyes were drawn to it’s description. I can remember it now.. Gunpowder green tea, rolanberry, prickly pineapple, and a sunflower blossom.” He huffed in amusement. “I remember the strangest things.. Perhaps it was the sunflower..”
“...However..!” This was when his laughter picked up. “When I asked her for Tranquility, she gave me a certain look and said something along the lines of, ‘I’ll give you some space’. I must have confused her and lead her to believe she had bothered me!”
He chuckled faintly. “I apologized profusely and we had a laugh. After we were served and the night came to an end, I returned to her when she was not busy. Gave her a hefty tip, and the surprise on her face is what made my night,” he nodded.
“She treated us well,” N’hil concluded as he looked to the asker. “People like that deserve it. I can only hope she and her peers are treated well in return.”
Thank you for the ask @dragonwitch-ffxiv. That was from a fun social event housed by <Tea>. Thank you to @fair-fae and everyone else who hosted that! It left N’hil with a funny story lol. I can’t remember the name of that lalafell but she was fun to rp with))

RP Journal: 08/17/2020
Tumblr media
I made my way to Shroudrose Teahouse this evening in order to check on my most erstwhile client, Raisan Arcmantle. That imp-lord of crafting is always in search of new materials to make the latest, greatest thing, and I’ve been long overdue to see if he needs anything. No doubt he’s compiled a list a malm long at this point. Arcmantle wasn’t in-house yet and I wasn’t about to leave without talking to him. I value my ears and my tail and he would’ve had both if he had a list of things to fetch and I’d gone without it.
(Courtesy cut for length)
Lorrendor Hauland did, indeed, join me there and we partook of tea and finger sandwiches as we chatted while I waited. I swear by Oschon that elezen… it’s like he’s been talking to Edgard or something because he was /way/ more flirtatious today than he’s ever been. I’m not really sure what to make of it. With Edgard, I know it’s not serious and harmless; he does it to be an idiot and a fool. With Lorrendor… It’s a bit more complicated, because I know he has feelings on the other end of it.  I don’t want to hurt the man, nor do I want to make him think that there’s hope for something where there isn’t.
Tumblr media
Arcmantle eventually put in an appearance, so I told him to round up his list of materials and I’d get round to them when I was able. I also inquired about him crafting the magitek ammunition I’ve been using on hunts of late. My current supplier is in Kugane, and since I’m no longer going to be there I was hoping to find someone a bit more stable in reliability. I know where Arcmantle is most of the time, he’s rarely away from his workshop in Gridania. As it turns out there are things that Arcmantle /can’t/ craft, much to my surprise! However, he did offer to act as delivery lalafell by fetching my supply of arrows from Kugane and keeping them in his workshop. That’s more than fair, I think, and in turn I’ll make it a point to discount my gathering services for him to off-set the expense.
While I spoke with Arcmantle about business, I couldn’t help but notice the looks Lorrendor was giving me. These weren’t just the looks of a man appreciating a beautiful woman -- and, admittedly, I have a /lot/ of beauty to appreciate -- these were the look of a man enamored with what he sees.
I was almost grateful when Arcmantle invited me to his office to fit me with a coat that would keep me warm in Ishgard. Lorrendor had elsewhere to be, so it meant a respite from those heartfelt stares. I did ask Lor to the Canopy for drinks later since I was forced to cut our visit short for the fitting.
Arcmantle took my measurements, though not without comment at how I’d “filled out in all the right places.”  I swear… between Lor and Arcmantle it’s been all about my figure today!  I’m sure if Edgard were here, he’d have his own two gil to add to it all.  Regardless, once we were done, I sat and spoke with Arcmantle a bit.  He apparently has concerns about a new girl in his employ and whether she’d been off-put by how busy it was in the Teahouse this evening. I told him that with his eye for skill and nose for talent that I’m sure anyone would get along swimmingly with or without training. Of course, he went on to say that he’d entrusted Deer Ears with the task and … as sweet as that dear little lalafell is, I’m not sure I would’ve done the same. He can be a flighty little thing and he doesn’t always get the names of the menu items right. He’s a sweetheart, though, so at least he can train them up to have the proper attitude!
With the fitting done, I went down to the Carline Canopy to visit further with Lorrendor. I have to admit that he’s taken some fairly long strides to curb his protective nature, it makes spending time with him feel less like hanging out with my godfather and more like hanging out with the friend he should be. I’m glad of that much, at least.
Tumblr media
I did learn that he’s younger than I expected, though still almost twice my age. It made me wonder, though, if he’d had a wife and children before. So many people I know have lost spouses and families to war. It made me wonder about a statement he’d made at the teahouse, saying he had something to tell me about his past that would help me understand why he’s so protective. I know he’s lost someone before, he’s said as much, though I don’t know the details. Would it be like Edgard?  A dear wife and the hope of his future?
Is there anyone left in Eorzea that isn’t broken in some way?  That’s had some piece of them chipped away and shattered? We’re all scared of that pain, scared of that loss -- so scared that it frightens us to even try again.
Conversation ebbed and waned, I began to learn small snippets of who Lorrendor was, but then I struck upon the topic of his upbringing, which led down into a rabbit hole of grief and pain so keen it could be the blade of a knife. He told me of a roegadyn woman he loved who was slain before his very eyes in an Ixal attack. They were both in service to the Woods Wailers at the time and it had been part of their duty to protect the Shroud.
The man wept openly and I lent him my handkerchief. One thing was clear to me: that this was no conversation for a tavern, even one as nice as the Canopy. So I led him outside the city to the cool calm of the forest, to a spot just across the river from Gridania. You could see the water wheels turning and hear the bustle of the city in the distance. We sat in the rain-damp grass and there Lorrendor unleashed the full torrent of his misery.
Tumblr media
It was… uncomfortable to witness this grief. It was as if it had occurred for him just yesterday and the wound of it fresh. I don’t know how long ago this was, but it’s clear that it affected him deeply. I had no idea what to say or what to do, even. What is there to do for grief so profound?  I spoke words of condolence, but they felt empty and meaningless in the shadow of his pain.
It was such a strange turn from how the day started, but Lorrendor seemed better for it. It seemed like something he’d been holding in for a long while, so I guess it just needed the right catalyst to break the dam loose. As we walked back to town, he seemed lighter in spirit which made me smile for him.
If only it were so easy for some of us to resolve a painful past.

Hesitation
Tumblr media
The Shroudrose was packed, it was easy to tell from the amount of people spilling out on the lawn and the path leading from the message board Kaia kept herself hidden behind. Being shy wasn’t something she was used to feeling at all. From the moment she could speak, she walked up to random people and spoke to them, easily pulling topics out of the air and stringing together interesting conversations. But here… something about this place made her hesitate.
When it came to the people she met during her travels, her interest in their stories and paths always drew her in their direction, eager to understand them and hear any gems she could pull out of them. The crowd at the Shroudrose intimidated her, though, despite her love of being placed into social situations. There were too many people and she wasn’t sure if the fear was because she wouldn’t know where to start or because she was unsure of where or if she would fit in.
Kaia had barely started her travels and she could tell from merely looking at all of the attendees here that they were far more cultured than she could ever dream of. Quietly, she moved away from her hiding spot and turned her back on the establishment, hoping that it would turn her invisible. A patch of grass by the stream caught her eye and she lowered herself to the ground, folding her legs under her as she looked down at the dark liquid below. Almost as if on cue, the street lamp flickered on and she turned to watch the crowd down the path, her sadness illuminated in the golden glow of its light.
This feeling of anxiety was foreign to her and it made her feel even worse about the situation. How was she meant to stand on stage in front of crowds like this- maybe even bigger- if she couldn’t even muster up the courage to walk in and at least say hello? It was obvious that it was something she would need to get over in order to achieve her dreams and, if she was anything, it was an overachiever.
Her gaze rested on the smiling faces of patrons entering and exiting the teahouse plot and a soft sigh escaped her lips. Something inside of her was telling her to get up and go join the mix but her legs felt like lead. The cool evening breeze gently blew her bangs, tickling her face as she turned to look back at the stars reflecting on the water. Fingers fiddling with her rings, Kaia stayed silent and closed her eyes, calming herself and trying to find enough strength to move. She was a fighter, for gods’ sake.
How was it possible that she could take down men and women twice her size in a fight without hesitation but one party made her feel like the most inferior person in the universe? She’d strayed far from home for the first time on her own, traveled in the dark and taken down any enemies that came her way with a speed that her prized fighter of a mother would’ve been proud of. She’d defended herself against misogynistic and overly physical men who didn’t know the meaning of personal space without batting an eyelash and yet a crowd of seemingly friendly people made her heart race like she’d run a marathon.
Taking a deep breath, Kaia opened her eyes and stared ahead, the sounds of music and laughter from the teahouse having slowly faded away. When she turned, she saw groups of people leaving as they chatted with each other and people who had come alone happily making their ways up the path and away from the Shroudrose. They looked refreshed and jovial, like they’d enjoyed the show the establishment had put on that night and were still reeling from the entertainment. Immediately envious, Kaia’s shoulders sagged as she watched the patrons trickle out, not averting her gaze until the last person danced away.
The silence of the evening surrounded her all at once as they disappeared in the distance and she stood up, brushing the dirt from her clothes as she straightened and made her way toward the building. She passed other houses and businesses, glancing at people as they practiced their fighting skills on striking dummies on their lawns or flirted with each other under canopies, until her feet brought her to her destination.
Kaia walked over to a window and carefully peered inside, a frown forming on her lips as her gaze went over the emptied chairs and cleared tables. It didn’t look so daunting when it was empty. Spotting people moving inside, she gasped and quickly darted away, walking quickly so that she was out of sight and hoped she hadn’t been seen. When she stood back on the emptied lawn, her gaze rested longingly on the door to the teahouse before she started making her way back to New Gridania.
“Maybe next time.”

Out for Tea and a Swim
I have wondered recently why it is that I have made so many acquaintances who work in the . . . umm, “Love for Sale” industry?
A while back, I wrote about meeting Tsukiko and Aurina at the Oak Tradepost, where they were having an evening meal around the same time as I was. They work at such an establishment. Well, I ran into Aurina again last night, this time when I went out for tea at the Shroudrose. There was a group of people at a table, and she and A’lehsi were there, so I waved to say hello. A’lehsi called me over, and the next thing I knew I was sitting with them and trying to figure out what the topic of conversation was.
I spoke to A’lehsi about the recent show and complimented her on her work there. She said some nice things about my dancing, which I thought was awfully nice of her considering it is not my strong suit.
I got my Ul’dahn Chai and almond cookies, which is one thing I definitely miss about living in the Lavender Beds, and the conversation went about the table for a while, until people started to drift away, and Aurina suggested those remaining should all go swimming. I decided to go along, as I do enjoy the water.
I ran by my house and changed into a swimsuit, and then went down to the docks. The water was cool, but not cold. I dove right in, as I usually do. We swam about, and Aurina and I played tag and had a diving competition.
We talked about quite a few things, among them her job, and how part of it was to learn about people, to understand them, so as to provide the appropriate, umm, service. And I thought, well, in some ways, I do the same thing. As a writer, I have to watch people, and figure out why they do the things they do, so that I can write about them later, whether in a song, or a play, or what have you.
It was during this conversation, floating about in the water and such, that it really came to me how many people in that industry I have known over the years. Now, obviously I do not frequent such establishments as a customer, so I wonder why it is that I keep meeting them? I grew up on Pearl Lane, so it began right at the start of my life. One of my earliest babysitters was a streetwalker who lived near us--not that I knew that at the time.My mother needed someone to watch me during the day while she worked, and she apparently trusted her with my care. I remember her being friendly, though she had a tendency to drift off to sleep if she sat down for long. The disadvantage of working at night, I suppose.
And there were others who I grew up around, of course. I would be much older before I would understand a lot of the things that were going on around me. Not that it changed how I felt about anyone. There are good and bad people in every industry.
Of course, between the way my mother raised me, and then what happened to me later, there was little chance such a career was ever going to be appealing to me personally. But I have made friends who have worked in such places, and I have performed on occasion in some as well. Singing, I mean! Anyway, I just wonder if there is something about being a performer that causes me to cross paths so often with ladies and gentlemen of the evening.
Aurina admitted to the group later that she had invited us to swim to see us all wearing less clothing. I would hate to have seen my face when she said that, I imagine my skin became very dark indeed, as I’m sure I was blushing profusely. She had been teasing me earlier in the evening about visiting her place of business, but it did begin to feel as though she were interested in more than I was going to be able to provide.
Or was she? It’s hard to know, I suppose. Was she hoping that I would change my mind about her services? Or was her interest now personal, and not a business one?
I told her that I didn’t want her to think that I didn’t find her attractive or anything--I enjoy talking to her, and she is certainly quite striking. However, that’s just not in my nature. And she said something which I wish I could have written down, but of course I didn’t have anything with which to write! But it was along these lines: “You see a connection between intimacy and romance, and since I cannot provide the latter, I should not expect the former.” I think that’s pretty close, and it is exactly what I was feeling.
The evening ended soon after, and I decided to sleep in my mess of a house before heading back to Shirogane. Though to be honest, I found it difficult to go to sleep. I am not immune, after all. I do have wants and desires, even if I don’t follow through on them. I suppose it’s easier for me than it is for most people, however, as I’ve only ever made love with one person, and it was over a turn ago now. For someone whose love life is more active, it must be difficult when they suddenly have a dry spell. (Wow . . . I just wrote that, didn’t I?) So, maybe it’s easier for me, since I’ve sort of been living in a desert most of my life in that area.
I guess I should go fishing. It’s usually the answer.

Of Teatime and Travels
Word came ‘round that Faye Covington ( @fair-fae ) had transformed the old Harbinger house into a teahouse of sorts; naturally, my own curiosity got the better of me, so I made my way back to those distantly familiar paths that eventually led me to the new Shroudrose Teahouse & Tavern.
I have to say that Faye and her compatriots did a wonderful job of transforming the old Harbinger house into something really quite lovely.  Thanks to Raisan Arcmantle and his usual small army of helpers, the tea, service, and foodstuffs all proved to be sublime. Especially the Brownie Earthquake he concocted.
It was a pleasant evening with live entertainment from a rather talented bard. Most of it, though, I spent in conversation with Zhan’a Rakhin ( @yokasaris ) about The Chroniclers ( @chroniclers-rp ) upcoming move to Shirogane. At first, the miqo’te seemed quite hesitant, but after convincing him of the adventure and the new botanical samples we might find, I think he warmed up to the idea.

If only I could get Zhan’a to warm up to Karaan Nolan. Whatever feud exists between them continues unabated; each of them sniping and snarking at the other until one of them leaves the room in a huff. It worries me, especially now that we’re going to be abroad with no one but ourselves to rely on. We need each other, now more than ever, we can ill-afford to be so divided.
Perhaps that’s why I’ve taken it upon myself to work with Zhan’a more regularly, in order to help him feel included in the Company’s endeavours.  He joined the Chroniclers for Irridias Velnyx and I, after all. It falls to us to ensure that he’s made welcome here and that he has things to do. That’s the point of a Free Company, isn’t it?
After a rather long airship ride, we now find ourselves on new and distant shores. Hingashi, Doma, Othard -- names and places I’ve only read about in books or heard of in passing conversations.  Zhan’a and I took it upon ourselves to explore Kugane proper and see if we could find the market for some necessary supplies.
The more time I spend with Zhan’a, the more I like him. He has his quirks, to be sure, but there’s an underlying intelligence and cunning about him, a sort of street savvy that most of us would likely take for granted. Like haggling with one of the vendors in Kugane this evening, he made quite a show of it, but saved us a fair bit of gil.
Once we’d successfully purchased supplies for repairing the house Karaan found us in Shirogane, Zhan’a and I found some tasty food samples in a stall farther down the market lane. Food here is certainly different, though, I knew that already from visits with Saraj Malqir and my time at Ryuusei Tea Room ( @ryuuseitearoom ). It made for a nice, simple introduction to the new world we’ve found ourselves in, though. I look forward to getting to know this place even more.
