Thoughts on Daisysous ;

As much as I dislike last minute endgame ships squeezed into a final season I do think Daisy deserves a peaceful ending where she can finally have family and love. So I'm okay with this.

It helps Sousa was a pre-established character in Agent Carter so the audience already knows him. The writers didn't need to waste any time introducing him and could instead just focus on his growing relationship with Daisy to help sell the believability this could happen. Plus we as an audience already know him to be a good man and trust him, therefore allowing us to trust Daisy with him should they end up together.

And I like the writers chose Sousa because he isn't some irrelevant nobody, he was a main character in Agent Character and a huge fan-favorite. It shows they respect Daisy enough to not draft up some rando dude as a love interest. They gave her someone with his own relevance.

It also helps Daisy and Sousa actually HAVE chemistry. If they didn't this would all be very cringe and the shoe-horning romantic subplot would only be more obvious and perhaps even an eyesore to the audience.

I kinda wish that they could have brought back Robbie for this if the only purpose was to wrap up everyone's storyline and give Daisy an endgame. But they could have done a lot worse than Sousa. He’s up there for one of the better options, certainly better than Deke.

For people who think “Daisy doesn’t need a love interest to be happy, romance isn’t everything”, as an AroAce myself I have this to say: You are absolutely right! However Daisy is not an Aromantic Asexual character. She has been shown to be attracted to men. But throughout the show she’s been given almost no romantic options. She kissed Ward in season 1 and had a short-lived relationship with Lincoln. Both ended in tragedy and she was very hurt. Meanwhile most other characters have had better luck: Mack has Yo-Yo, Jemma has Fitz, May has Coulson. Yes those relationships are complicated and not always easy but the point is they existed for a good majority of the show, meanwhile Daisy had no one. As a fan of Daisy’s character I do feel cheated -- Why do all the other characters get longterm relationships and she doesn’t? Why do the writers put more thought and care into their romantic relationships than Daisy? Is all Daisy worth to them a supporting backbone to the other characters? She is a main character and has spent most of the show without a paramour, so as Sirius Black would say... I did my waiting.... Five years of it.... In Azkaban!

The show is ending so let it end with her having an endgame relationship, as most certainly all the other characters will have. She deserves it just as much as they do.

Hidden Histories: Not-So-Hidden Edition

Gemini 7

I know everyone here knows about Gemini 7 already, but I feel it was so critical to the entire program, almost more so than the others, that I have to write about it for its anniversary. Also, Borman and Lovell are such treasures that I have to include them in something.

Turn and Face the Strange Ch-Ch-Changes

Alan Shepard, America’s first man in space, was scheduled to also fly the first manned Gemini mission with Tom Stafford. Little did Deke Slayton, the Chief Astronaut and guy in charge of crew assignments, know how much things would change in a year. Originally, the Gemini crews were as follows: GT-3 Shepard/Stafford; GT-4 McDivitt/White; GT-5 Schirra/Young; GT-6 Grissom/Borman; and GT-7 Conrad/Lovell. Of the five, GT-4 was the only one that stayed. Why? Shepard was diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease- a condition of the inner ear that causes dizziness, nausea, and unbalance. There was no way Shepard was flying anymore. He was grounded and thus earned the nickname “Icy Commander”. Slayton made him his assistant and the two of them sorted things out with the crews. Why they couldn’t’ve stayed the same, I have no idea. But personally, I like the change. The new crews were as follows: GT-3 Grissom/Young; GT-5 Cooper/Conrad; GT-6 Schirra/Stafford; and finally GT-7 Borman/Lovell. And thus Frank Borman and Jim Lovell became crewmates with America’s first spacewalker Ed White and Mike Collins as their backups. Thanks, Al and Deke.

Out of Order

If six comes before seven, then why did seven fly first? Gemini 6′s primary objective was to rendezvous with an Agena target vehicle while orbiting the Earth. Agenas were launched by Atlas boosters, the same kind that launched men into orbit during Gemini’s predecessor, the Mercury program. Atlas rockets were known to be unpredictable- at one point they had a one in three success rate. The launch of the Agena happened to be one of the twos and the rocket and its payload exploded during launch. Instead of waiting for a new Atlas and a new Agena, and most importantly, a new launch date, NASA decided to launch the prepared mission, Gemini 7, before Gemini 6 (6 wouldn’t launch until the end of 7′s flight but that comes later). And thus, Gemini 7 launched on December 4, 1965, from Launch Complex 19 at Cape Canaveral, Florida and became the tenth manned American spaceflight.

What’s Up, Doc?

Before the Skylab flights sent up actual medical doctors, such as Joe Kerwin and Ed Gibson, into space, Jim and Frank were NASA’s guinea pigs. The medical and scientific communities had mixed feelings about a fourteen-day mission. Some thought the twins would be in pretty bad shape. Others thought they would die due to the strain put on the heart after spending two weeks in space. Remember, this was 1965. Mankind had only been flying in space for four years. The US pretty much entered the Space Race like it was a taking a test for a class it only payed half-attention in. After all, NASA stands for “Not Absolutely Sure of Anything”. Two weeks was a long time. Could their hearts last that long? Will their vision start to deteriorate? Will their legs work when they’re back on Earth? If any of these questions received a negative response, which was “yes” for some and “no” for others, depending on the topic, the lunar flights would be off.

Other types of doctors, particularly psychologists, worried about how their minds would be effected after two weeks cooped up together in a volume as small as the front seat of a VW Beetle. Their boss Deke was worried about their egos as well. Two test pilots from different military branches this long together? Nevertheless, Frank credits Jim’s “wonderful sense of humor” for being a key factor in preventing them from losing their sanity. Fifty-two years later, the infamous twins are still close. As Frank, who was never one for being soft, said, “If you can’t get along with Jim Lovell, you can’t get along with anybody. I so praise God every day that it was Jim that I got to spend fourteen lovely days in space with.”

Let’s Pretend that We’re Together All Alone

Since this mission was ultimately really mundane, the two came up with ways to entertain themselves. They each brought along a book to read- Mark Twain’s Roughing It and Walter D. Edmonds’s Drums Along the Mohawk - and chose them specifically because they had absolutely noting to do with space. However, Frank and Jim are also well-known for something else: The pair formed the first singing duet in space. Every day, they’d sing Nat King Cole’s “He’ll Have to Go” together. That little stunt became one of the best-known parts of the entire two week mission. Sharing isn’t always a good thing though: During the first few days of the flight, one of them lost his toothbrush, forcing the two of them to share one for the remainder of the flight (which was well over a week although no one knows exactly when the toothbrush was lost, how it got lost in a tiny Gemini capsule, or where it was ever found). At first, it was scheduled per the flight surgeon’s request that at least one them have their suit on at all times- one would wear his for a while and then they would switch. These G5C spacesuits were designed and worn specifically for Gemini 7. Though they weighed less than the traditional Gemini suits, they were bulky and uncomfortable, so the crew wound up not wearing them most of the mission. They also got quite warm, particularly for Lovell who was the larger of the two. So yes, these two esteemed test pilot turned astronauts (and future moon men) orbited the Earth in their underwear. However, they put them back on only during the rendezvous with Gemini 6A and reentry, as it was and still is mandatory for crews coming home to wear their full pressure suits.

We’re Sirius About this Rendezvous Thing

The rendezvous would’ve been performed earlier in the mission if it wasn’t for a rocket that refused to get off the pad. Gemini 6A’s rocket had ignited while on the pad but never took off. If it’s commander, Wally Schirra, had blown the hatch and bailed, it would’ve damaged him, his crewmate, and the spacecraft itself. In the end, Wally stayed put and ultimately saved the rocket. Finally, three days later on December 15, Gemini 6A took off to meet with Frank and Jim in Gemini 7. Less than four hours into his mission, Wally saw a bright object that he believed to be the star Sirius. It was in fact Gemini 7 in the distance. After a series of burns made by both spacecraft, the two met up. The distance between the two went from as far apart as 130 feet (40 m) to as close as only one foot (30 cm). All while zipping around the earth at a whopping 17,000 miles an hour. This was precision flying at its best. The space program had some a long way from chimpanzees being shot into space on sub-orbital flights. In fact, NASA was now the in the lead in the Space Race. The US had performed not only the first manned rendezvous in space, but the very first rendezvous in space period. Along with Jim and Frank’s long duration flight, NASA was the world leader in spaceflight and the closest to getting to the moon.

The crew of Gemini 6A, Wally and his crewmate Tom Stafford, along with Lovell, all went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis. So Wally, being the jokester he was, decided to pull a little gotcha on Frank, who went to West Point. At one point, Wally stuck a sign in the window that read “BEAT ARMY”. Just a harmless prank to ease the tension of the critical and deadly task they were performing. However, Borman decided to read aloud what he wished the sign said and proclaimed it to say “BEAT NAVY”.

And You Can Tell Your Friends There with You, They’ll Have to Go

By the time GT-6A left and returned home to Earth when the rendezvous was over, things had gotten pretty bad for GT-7. They had three more days left to go and their only company was no longer with them. They could read, but it was too distracting inside the capsule to focus on the book. They could sing, but they’ve sung that same song for the past week and a half. They could ask CapCom how things are back on Earth, but even CapCom has limited knowledge of what goes on outside of Mission Control. Even the malfunctions -some of the thrusters not working and the fuel cells only giving their partial amount of power- weren’t enough to add excitement to their rather boring flight.

Jim and Frank finally returned to Earth on December 18, after nearly two weeks in space. This record would remain unbroken for five years until the Soviet mission Soyuz 9 in 1970. As for the US, NASA wouldn’t break the record set by Gemini 7 until Skylab 2 in 1973, which lasted almost a full month. Less than a decade later, men would pull an eighty-four day spaceflight as part of Skylab 4. Gemini 7 and her crew was picked up by the USS Wasp and landed only about six miles from their target. It was evident that fourteen days in zero-g had taken a toll on their bodies: Both Borman and Lovell reported having a bit of trouble walking in the beginning as well as unbalance, but that would be typical for crews to experience in the later years as the flights got longer. Additionally, the capsule had been sealed up for fourteen days straight and therefore had a strong unpleasant odor that lingered with the crewmen afterwards. Both of them compared the flight to spending fourteen days in a men’s bathroom.

I mentioned earlier that Frank claims that it was Jim’s sense of humor that kept their morale up. Humor seemed to be a critical part of spaceflight, especially when you’re reminded that you could die at any given moment. But Frank and Jim wanted to prove to the doctors who thought they were going to die that they were still the same astronauts who left Earth two weeks earlier. And what better way to do it then using humor. One of the running jokes of Gemini 7 is that Frank and Jim, after having spent so long together in space, wanted to get married when they got back home. As Lovell put it at the Salute to Apollo talk in July 2017, “Well, as a matter of fact we got down after fourteen days and we’re on the carrier, the first thing we did, we looked at each other and we said, ‘we just wanted to announce our engagement!’”

You’re Gonna Go Far, Kids

Gemini 7 was the most important mission of the Gemini program. There were four major objectives of the program; EVAs (spacewalking), rendezvous, docking, and long duration. If we couldn’t perform spacewalking, we’d find a way around it. If we couldn’t rendezvous and/or dock, we’d most likely use the lunar direct ascent protocol and those like it. However, long duration was the make it or break it for Apollo. If human beings couldn’t even survive the trip to and from the moon- including a few days on the surface-then that was it. The program was over. Without Gemini 7, NASA never would’ve known if the body could function that long in zero-g. But wait, there’s more. The first manned flight to the moon, Apollo 8, didn’t even have spacewalking, rendezvous, or docking. Now granted, every other Apollo mission following that one did, but the first did not. And interestingly enough, it was Borman and Lovell who would go on to fly that mission three years later with Bill Anders. Additionally, it was Gemini 7 that initially thrust the US into the leading spot in the Space Race and Apollo 8 that secured it. The entire Gemini program is immensely important and should be focused on more in spaceflight history. But you gotta give proper credit to Gemini 7.

So I guess Catarina already won the school president's heart/route if he's helping her already. He was some kind of demon god, right? I can't quite remember the spoilers I saw before. Though because I already saw the spoilers, it enabled me to enjoy noticing all the times Catarina inadvertently said something that unexpectedly touched the Kaichou. He's even started ditching groups of girls, just to go talk to Catarina. I kind of like watching from his perspective, falling for her.

I guess Sophia remembered her past life in this episode. So I guess that means this new Catarina-protag version of Fortune Lover's Sophia wasn't in love with Catarina, which would explain why she was ok helping set up Nicol with Catarina. Why is it so cute when Kaichou is astonished at Catarina's small kindnesses towards him? Maybe I"m just fixated on gray eyes right now, because I've been doing a lot of Photoshop this week, to make Nendoroid eyes gray to match Persona 5's Joker.

I can't believe this magic book of desires never encountered someone's desire to eat before! It couldn't fulfill Catarina's desire because all it's imaginary foods couldn't make her actually feel full? C'mon, book. So I thought I could expect no tension, but I just realized, what if Sophia with Acchan's memories covers for Catarina by saying her "bullying record" was a fanfic! Ideas for writing her own romance novel! LOL ^o^!!!

This dark mist appearing again is an interesting subplot. ---I just wish Maria woudl tell other people about seeing it! ;o;! Something bad is going to happen to my angel if she tires to confront it alone! ;o;

I was really hoping that the story would go with that trope of "if the protagonist maintains hope in the villain being good, they'll reveal that they really don't want to be a villain", and maybe that's how you conquer Kaichou's route. But hearing him call Catarina detestable makes it sound like that's not going to happen.

Yeah. That doesn't makes sense. He's calling her a hypocrite? He's primarily irritated that she helped out the loney guys? Sounds like he's jealous. Like he wanted Catarina to alleviate his lonliness too. But because she didn't get as involved with him as the other husbandos, he feels like she's not living up to her image, and thus being a hipocrite. So maybe this can STILL go in the direction of "redeeming the villain by being his friend"! ^o^ That's the kind of tone this show has seemed to have all along anyway. ^_^

Maybe I'm just a sucker for little cinnamon rolls with those big eyes and baby faces...But Kaichou from the start really did seem like he was suffering and lonely. Maybe it was all those asides with Catarina, where he was astonished that she was nice to him, as if no one had been nice to him before. Poor baby.

"I know you can save the president". Why did Acchan have to tell Cataraina Kaichou's real name? He's not "Sirius Deke"? He's not part of the Deke family? But if Geordo said the Deke family is established enough to have taken care of the storehouse for ages... Was Kaihou forced into the Deke clan, and they're more a secret cabal of Dark Magic users, vs a biological family? Does he resent being forced into the clan?

It feels so weird rooting for a redemption resolution for Kaichou, after I've been railing against a redemption arc for Akechi Goro for years(?) now. LOL But Akechi is a bully, and bullies are my pet peeve. Even if Kaichou's niceness was an act, I still have this nice impression of him. And I like the Hope conveyed by redemption arcs, in general. Hope is one of my favorite story themes. I love when the Hero can forgive a villain or see past the Universal Mother Goddess's monstocity. That kind of forgivess and acceptance is the sweet, saccharine stuff I live for! Pile it up! ^o^ I want stories where everything is brought to a happy ending, and everyone is happy, no matter how impossible it may see to forgive someone or show compassion. That's why Compassion is one of my other favorite themes: In order to go through it all the way, it usually takes a really Strong character and real innovative immagination to not take the easy route and give up on someone. (Unless they're Akechi, because fuck bullies.) But Micchy, Lelouch, Devil Homura,...Let me keep believing you can be saved and happy together again with your friends. ;u; So I hope Sirius Dieke, or whatever Kaichou's real name is, can be given Compassion and saved.

Yes! Start off by wanting to talk to him! It's a Weak person who solves things immediately with violence! Only the Strong take the risk to use Compassion! ^o^ These stories are my jam!

I was wondering why the Duchess Dieke's son looked just like Kaichou, but it's pretty clever that the story is finally making use of all these foreshadowed hints about mistresses' illegitamate children being a big issue in this world. First, Keith's background was brought into question, then Maria's family was torn apart because of it, and then it seemed like Ann's mom was the Baron's mistress and not his wife. I guess some character had to end up doing something horrible to the illigitamate kid in their family without Catarina there to save them.

So is the dark cloud around Kaichou Siris's spirit?

IDIOT! if the dark magician just wanted to go home to his family! Keep him alive in case something goes wrong and you need dark magic again!

So is the dark cloud a combination of the dark magician's grudge and his grudge?

Well, his memory of his mom's last words were warped by someone... It's kind of weird for a mother character's last words to her little child would be to ask him to get revenge for her. ...Oh, I guess the dark cloud was *just* the dark magician's grudge.

This is a great confession scene, if you take away Catarina's reason for striding up to Maria in that cool way.

Well, this YOuTube vid of ep12 makes it look like there wasn't anything after the scene I just watched before the commercial where Crunchyroll crashed. So I guess that's it? Maybe? I'll reply the ep on Crunchyroll to make sure.

8:10 PM 8/17/2020 Ok. Last commercial break again. Please don't crash this time, Crunchyroll. I just don't feel right after finishing a series/movie, unless I sit through credits. And that's even before the MCU did post-credit scenes!

Oh, yeah, the opening theme wasn't at the beginning of this last episode. I love when a theme song comes back into the end of a series! Whether it's during the climactic final battle or the final end credits, it always holds all the weight of nostalgia for the entire series.

Almost forgot: So Raphael looks just like Sirius...I thought made sense because they had the same father. But Raphael Walt looks just like him mom...who the Marquis Dieke obviously raped... Was she his lower class relative?!!!!!!!??????????????? O~o???!!!! Ugh. That Marqui really was a low life, besides his known philandering reputaiton. x_x;

TOY SNAKES ARE A BIG HIT IN TOWN?! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I know this series was well written. They won't leave a "Chekov's gun" just lying there, even if it ultimately gets used as purely a post-credits joke! ^o^

Real tea, I don’t want to sound like a nagging nancy or anything, the final episode itself was very fun an satisfying, but they left out personal moments between Raphael/Sirius and Maria that is supposed to rise them up as Katarina’s harem members. Each of the childhood friends already has intimate moments with Katarina as kids, so we need these personal and intimate momoments with the newcomers Maria and Raphael in order to make them fit in with the rest of the harem (not that they would lose too much without it, but that’s that formula!!). I guess it doesn’t make sense that Raphael’s story was (originally) told to only Katarina even though the other student council members’ care about him too, and with how the episode flowed it makes sense to move it to the beginning rather than the end of the episode, but you know me blah blah blah light novels!!

Nitpicking as usual, but the fact that we didn’t get Maria and Katarina getting sticked to the hip and enjoying the party by themselves plus a summary of all the good that Katarina has done for Maria really hurts her case, especially when she’s supposed to be one of the biggest contenders for Katarina’s heart moving forward. The anime really felt like it’s going for a Geordo vs Keith rather than the Geordo vs Maria that I’m seeing for future volume spoilers on reddit, and that might just increase depending on how season 2 will go.

I don’t know about you guys but I feel like that’s a pretty big blow on MariKata, because we need to know how much Katarina has done for Maria in order to invoke a complete retrospective on how our bakarina literally saved everyone, even the protagonist that she doesn’t know was secretly broken during the events of Fortune Lover. I mean I get that we don’t need another recap to understand that, but Maria is important because she’s the main character (of Fortune Lover!) so the relationship between those two are technically the most mportant one in the series!

This episode was supposed to be the moment of Raphael and Maria cementing their place by telling us why they should be (and desire to be) in Katarina’s harem, and I’m kinda sad the finale didn’t deliver much on that

I mean the personal moments between Raph and Kat and between Maria and Kat could be in season two.

I mean... maybe for Maria, since she will be a big focus of the next big arc (not the next two minor arcs), but it just works in the manga so well because it happens before her confession to Katarina in the graduation ceremony.Having her recall all the good things that came to her life after Katarina makes the confession feel so true and real. Rather than have us really feel the weight of Maria’s love for Katarina via that retrospection, the anime immediately throws Maria into the harem as a regular member (with constant jokes and nods). I know she technically got her own episode, but I feel like the episode with the two of them becoming friends and the visit to her hometown is mostly a Maria-centric episode, with Katarina just imprinting herself in Maria’s life, while the retrospection scene before the confession is supposed to be the moment where we realize how much Maria was saved by Katarina, as was everyone else.

We get that impression in the previous episodes, but it is supposed to culminate and expanded with the finale. I might be biased here though, I just think that the relationship between Maria and Katarina is the most important because of what they are in the grand scheme of things: the original protagonist and antagonist.

I guess it can be moved to the second season, but it would have to be explained with an anime-only scenario, because there’s nothing in the light novels so far that can lead to Maria having that kind of retrospection about having Katarina in her life (at least till Vol 5, maybe in vol. 6 idk).

For Raphael, I doubt it, since he already explained his backstory to the student council. The scene is good the way it was presented in the manga because we get a chronological overview of Raphael/Sirius’ life and how Katarina’s positive influence had led the crumble of his dark and vengeful ideals. It was supposed to be intimate; a story he shared with his savior. The light novels didn’t have him monologue his story to anyone, it was mostly just a flashback (he probably told the story after he was temporarily arrested idk), but it did lead the the scene where he knelt before Katarina after thanking her for saving him, but the anime added the entire harem, just to put them all in equal grounds.

Now that I think about it, the anime has a bad habit of adding the entire harem to scenes that are supposed to be intimately about Raphael and Maria. The harem is there to watch Raphael and Katarina’s conversation, and Katarina and Maria never got to spend the graduation party alone because everyone was there (which is funny because the manga has the other looking for Katarina). I skimmed (barely lol) Volume 2 and it doesn’t seem like Katarina and Maria spent the graduation party together like the manga did, but I think it’s still worth arguing about since the anime clearly reference the manga for a lot of it’s shots and pacing.
